This seems to be the week of burgers. But, appantly I don't tire of a good burger. I stopped in here for lunch with a friend and the burger was very tasty. The regular burger comes with Gorgonzola and bacon. Bacon! I pretty much would love most things in life wrapped in bacon. We also shared a large fries, which was crunchy, hot, and the right amount for two.

Very good burgers; good fries topped off serving with green chile mayo to dip; great atmosphere. Bonus points for their Taos burger, which comes with a fried green chile on it. People complain about the service, but whatever. The main reason it isn't 5 stars is that it is a bit pricey. $12-14 for burger and fries is expensive regardless of where you're at, and for Albuquerque it's somewhat unreasonable. That said, the rest of the menu (drinks, etc) seems very reasonably priced.

LOVE those sweet potato fries!! wow!

More like 3 star burgers. Only because of the price and what you get. I spent $12 on a burger and fries! I skipped getting an overpriced beer and just had water. The burger alone was $10. I expected something amazing, but what I got was just a good, ok burger. Nothing to freak out about. If the meal came with fries and maybe a drink for that price I'd be ok with it. I'd consider going back but probably after I take a loan out from the bank, especially if I'm taking the family.

Tried Five Star Burgers carryout for the first time last night 12/16/14 at height of dinner rush. We found 2 open chairs at the bar with a busy bartender doing a number of things and got menu from a server using pos. I knew what I wanted because I usually order the feature - Holiday Burger in this case. Wife chose Five Star and I chose the Green Chile Chicken for mom at home. The busy tender got me a beer and took our order stating ready about 15 minutes or less. A manager came around and I managed his attention for a couple quick beer samples for my wife who did not like my choice. After 10 minutes and fun conversation our order was ready to go that we had already paid and we were out the door! Bag was opened at mom's house less than 10 minutes later and we enjoyed another round of great Five Star Burgers! The fries divided well for 3 people and each person got exactly what they wanted. I ordered my burger rare and it was perfect. My wife goes med-well and she was very happy. Mom loved the chicken eating every bite (unusual for her). Missed my favorite server who moved to the new location but we will be back to one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants in the Academy area very soon. Holiday Burger is VERY gouda!

I am consistently impressed as a regular at how surprisingly good this place is. The meat is the best around, hormone free and grass fed. The salmon burger is awesome. There are plenty of great items for my veggie companions. Do not shy away from the gluten free buns, they are delicious. And make sure you get some green chile mayo for your dipping pleasure.

The atmosphere in this little burger joint is super inviting. We walked in and were immediately seating. I could tell that the bar was a popular place. I knew I had quite the choice when it came to brew. I definitely was not disappointed. The waiter was friendly and greeted us at a normal pace. I always enjoy service that is not TOO ecstatic. I ordered a plain cheeseburger with chili which came out oven hot. I loved the way the arranged the meal on a rectangle shaped plate. It gave the place that kinda' new aged hip type of diner. The French fries were fresh and mildly seasoned. I crunched into them, and was happily satisfied with a perfectly cooked center. I have always believed that making French fries is an art, and these guys were a bunch of picaso's! Gotta love a big juicy burger, piled with garden fresh veggies. I will definitely be RSVP'ing next time I am on this side of town.

Came back to give Five Star another chance and unfortunately they failed. This time they had run out of IPA and had no other similar beers as a replacement. So I chose to switch to wine. Of course they were also out of the wine I wanted. In a previous review I mentioned how management is the problem at Five Star: They just do not have procedures and training in place to allow the restaurant to deliver consistently good experiences. This was apparent once again as I was discussing the failure to properly stock the bar with the manager on duty. While we were talking our server kindly brought out our appetizer.... Of course our apps had already been delivered. I really wish this place would learn to perform consistently. When they are on they serve an amazing meal, but I will no longer reward shoddy service and poorly prepared meals with my hard earned cash. I am voting with my wallet, and those votes will go to other restaurants from this point forward.

My wife and I had a date night on Saturday February 15th. We originally saw a commercial for this place on TV, and thought, Hmm, just another high priced burger. After reading the other reviews on this place we decided to give it a try. When we walked in, we were immediately greeted and sat. Our waiter was very helpful and took our drink order right away. The special for the month was the A-1 Burger. A burger with A-1 sauce of course. My wife ordered the Taos burger. Both burgers were amazing. Cooked to perfection. I'm a huge A-1 Sauce fan, but usually only on steaks. Eating this burger makes we want to have A-1 Sauce on all my burgers moving forward. We will definitely return to this place. I hear they're opening another one in Old Town. It'll do just fine I'm sure.

The burgers seem okay, if a bit overpriced. Just don't order a salad. Just awful. Like something they found in the back room. And the waiters are surly, inattentive, and unprofessional, like they wish they were somewhere else, doing something else.

I just wanted a burger. The feeling wouldn't go away so we marched over to five star to indulge in their high ceilings and fried pickles and of course, a burger. We got there in time for happy hour and it was my first time ever trying fried pickles. They did not disappoint! The waitress said that they just switched from spears to chips and they are even yummier than they were. I agreed. The burger and fries (which you have to order seperately) was not all that. For the price of our meal, +$35, +$40 with tip, it was an overpriced burger. Especially with the way my burger tasted. I don't know if I'm spoiled with all of the delicious beef I've been accustomed to consuming since moving here but this meat did not live up to my high expectations. I wouldn't eat here again but I don't completely regret it either.

Enjoyed it. Burgers and fries great. Way better than mass produced burgers.

On a recent visit to Albuquerque, my father and sister suggested we have lunch at Five Star Burgers. They're both big "foodies" so I trusted them. I was right to trust. Not only can you have your hamburger cooked to order (medium rare), but it's one of the best green chile cheeseburgers in the state. Spicy chile, melted cheese, excellent mayo. Definitely order some sweet potato fries to round out your lunch. Because I give a lot of credit to restaurants with great iced tea, I have to note that theirs is delicious. (Why is tea so hard to get right?) Our server kept our glasses refilled regularly. GREAT place that I will visit again!

Awesome burgers cooked to your liking. Great place to satisfy a burger craving. But go just for that as the menu lacks much else. The interior has a classic burger joint feel too, though can feel crowded and overrun. Go off peak hours.

Best burgers in the city! The burgers are consistently great tasting. Also, the shakes and fries are phenomenal. The service is for the most part great, but we have had some experience with a slow wait staff. However, the food is amazing and a must try!

This was my wife's and my second trip to Five Star Burgers and each time we've left with four basic questions: 1) What kind of burger joint serves a garden burger that is superior to its real burgers? 2) Why can't this severely over-staffed and pricey restaurant provide decent service? 3) $29 plus tip for two half-decent burgers, an iced tea, a coke, and a small appetizer? ! Are you kidding me? ! 4) What on earth was USA today thinking in rating this the best burger in New Mexico? We counted 8 hosts, servers and bartenders on each outing to Five Star. Business was slow on each outing, yet our water and tea glasses sat dry three times during each outing. The garden burger its quite tasty, but that's not to suggest that the garden burger is worth the price as the bun is so hard that it crushes the garden patty and causes it to ooze, smear, and drip onto the plate. The green chile cheeseburger comes on a tasty toasted brioche bun; unfortunately, the bottom part of the bun soaks up grease rapidly and leaves a gross and slimy mass in the hand. Please...change the bottom bun's consistency. The top bun was very good, but the bottom sucked. The meat is of good quality, but a little seasoning would help. It's OK, but doesn't impress any more than a burger from Blake's Lotta Burger, which is a better deal and tastier. My wife ordered the fried green chile strips, which were flavorful and mild. But they were also very chewy and I suspect they'd been reheated. With the high price, poor service, and merely passable food I don't anticipate that we'll return to Five Star Burgers. Update on May 12, 2012... The more I think about it the more upset i am by my experiences at 5-Star Burgers. You can eat at a much better restaurant (P'Tit Louis Bistro) for the same price. i previously gave 5-Star Burgers an undeserved 2-star rating and am changing it to 1-Star. It really is worse than I at first thought.

Save your $10 and splurge on two burgers at your local fast food joint, because at least you know what quality of food you get there. Burgers are over priced for quality that was not delivered. Buns were ice cold and fell apart completely upon munching on the burger. Its so bad that I don't even want to waste my words on this joint.

  • Joan C.

Favorite burger place in Albuquerque for me. I love the Five Star Burger and the Green Chile Cheeseburger. Happy hour is a pretty good deal. Half price appetizers and inexpensive beer.

  • Warren L.

Well, yes, it's pretty expensive for ABQ but they are aiming for the "deluxe burger" category and I think they attain that. The meat is good quality, spiced well and cooked as requested. This is certainly not anything like a fastfood burger the burgers served by most restaurants. The green chile on the green chile cheeseburger wasn't hot at all, although it was tasty. I didn't try the fries. Is it "the best"? Doubtful, but it is very good if the price doesn't bother you. What you're getting is something that is way above most burgers in terms of quality, but they're going to charge you what they think it's worth. That's up to you to decide.

I came here as 5 star burgers is a stop on the New Mexico Green Chile Cheeseburger Trail, and I was not disappointed. The Green Chile Cheeseburger was very good - the meat was cooked perfectly to order, the green chile was spicy but didn't overpower the meat, and the order of sweet potato fries I had on the side were also excellent (though in my opinion those are pretty hard to mess up). I ate at the bar, and the staff was very friendly and attentive even though it was a Friday night. The price may seem a bit high for a burger ($9.50 at the time of this post), but it's well worth it as the size of the burger is substantial. The beers here are all New Mexico brews, which is a nice support of local business even though they have locations in other states.

  • Charles K.

Not a bad burger joint. The price is a little high, but the cooked to order Harris ranch beef is the core of a top notch burger. The custom bun (more like a dinner roll) and fresh toppings (except for the under-ripe tomato) compliment the beef perfectly. The green chile cheese burger was very good, but not the best in the state ( sorry USA Today).

  • Damacio U.

Awesome! Only reason it is not getting 5 stars is because it is so far from my house.

    (4)
  • Tofu D.

I enjoyed my dining here. They have nice staff, and their veggie burger was very good, their fries on the other hand were overpriced, $3 for a small dish the size of a condiment plate. I will be back for a veggie burger and drink, but not for the fries of course. They have a good selection of beers and wine as well, more of a sports bar/restaurant type of place.

  • Jim B.

Overpriced. Good burgers & fries but spending nearly $20 for a simple burger with cheese, mushroom, fries and an iced tea? Crazy. Also, they would have done better to leave the tomato off the plate. It was under-ripe and unattractive. If they are going to try to justify such high prices, they need to work on the small things. I felt basically ignored and practically had to trip someone to get my iced tea refilled and it wasn't overly busy. This place is trying WAY too hard on the wrong things to make it worth it. $3 for fries? Even though they were crispy come in a cute little frier basket, is still way too much to pay for a potato. I'll be heading elsewhere for my burgers where my dollar gets me more value.

Overpriced burgers in my opinion I would take a burger from 5 guys or fudruckers over this joint

We had the 5 star burgers and they were The Best Burgers we ever had. The well done was just as juicy as the med well. Fried green chile was great, beer was chiled perfectly.

Waiting 50 minutes for a burger is ridiculous. It's obvious wait staff didn't care. Won't be back to this place.

Great experience. Great food, great service, reasonable price. What more could you want. The beer was fresh and cold. I had the bison burger. Slightly (and I mean slightly) undercooked, but delicious. They gave me a sample of the jamacian jerk sauce which was great. Also, the mayo chili sauce was great. The server was funny, not overbearing, but attentive. We will be back here soon.

I love me some burgers. My holy grail standard for burgers dates back to my days in Napperville, Illinois in the early 90's when grunge was king. The absolute best burger came from a brew pub there that used beer fed beef. Holy moly. The quest begins in Illinois of all places. I digress. I came to Five Star Burgers when I posted to facebook asking about some great burger joints in Nuevo Mexico. Lots of places I tried came up but this one was new. I took the trek from the downtown area to this burger spot and was not disappointed. Very flavorful beef. Thick and medium rare like a good burger should. I did read the other reviews on their bread choices. I would agree that they need to upgrade their bread but the meat stands robust on its own merits. On my first visit in May, the beef I had was cooked just right and the buffalo I had the latest visit was fantastic. I added a brownie desert and coffee. Skip the brownie and try something else. So in summary. Cons 1. Change the bread. Change the bread. Change the bread. 2. Hire pleasant staff. The young lady who sits people always has a scowl on her face. The waitresses take awhile to warm up. I need to work on my jokes I guess. 3. Brownie was super rich and top with ice cream and loads and loads of whip cream. It was a mess too quick. Pros 1. Very good beef and buffalo 2. Sweet potato fries were great. 3. Condiments were good (ketchup, dipping sauce for fries, etc.)

I went here with high expectations (it's in their name) but I was very disappointed. Drinks were never refilled and the server acted like we were inconveniencing her. Starting off with negative service elements is a sure fire way for customers to put a company under a microscope- but I stayed objective and gave the food a fair chance. It was a mess. The burger fell apart in my hand and the bun was practically saturated with grease. With a name that includes the term "5 Star" I would expect all aspects of a visit to be exemplary (or at least effort shown to be so, nobody's perfect) but I unfortunately cannot say their operation even resembles their name.

I would say the green chili burger is the best the atmosphere is nice as well. A little small inside but that wasn't a huge issue. Sweet potato fries also deffiantly a must I feel it is a little pricey, but for great food.

5 Star Burgers just opened two days ago, so I thought I'd try them out for dinner today. Great place! Just what you'd expect from a $10 burger place. Actually, the burgers range from $7.25 to $8.25, but they do have a lamb burger for $10. I know you can get a Golden Arches "burger" for a buck, and if you can't get passed that fact, then read no further. Jump in your car and head to the nearest burger joint with a PlayPlace. The rest of you, may appreciate what follows (Please, pardon the attitude. That came out more condescending than I intended. 8*). The beef comes from the Harris Ranch in Fresno, CA. 100% Angus, no antibiotics or additives. In fact, that's kind of a calling card of 5 Star, very environmentally conscious (this is their 2nd store -- the 1st is in Taos). None of their foods use trans-fats. All to-go containers are biodegradable, 100% recycled, and their frying oils are recycled for bio-diesel fuel. But I hear you, "How was the food?" To which I answer, "Awesome!" In fact, I'd go so far as to say the best burger in town! I had the simplest burger on the menu, The Old Timer (see pic). Plenty of good tasting well seasoned, and perfectly cooked beef on a Fano Brioche bun. Charred on the outside; a perfect medium on the inside. The Fano bun is key. It was dusted on top with what I'm guessing is semolina. IMHO, Fano is the BEST bread bakery in the state. It seems that all of the best NM restaurants that don't make their own bread, use Fano. The bun is split open (and lightly toasted?) and spread with butter. Actually, Fano calls this their "Brioche" bun, and while it is certainly an enriched dough, it is not the classic soft buttery brioche dough that you normally think of, which is a good thing because that would not make a very good hamburger bun. This is richer and has more body than a regular hamburger bun, but not so rich that it would be too soft to stand up to the burger. Long story short, this bun works and works well. Okay, enough of the bread snobbery. On with the review! The burger is served with fresh (!) lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles on the side. Also mayo, ketchup, and mustard, and I was offered an herbed mayo as well (I passed -- I didn't want to detract from the beef my first time here). I'm not a big fry guy, but I did get a half order (see pic), and I have to say they were very good. Hot and crisp but not dry. Nice. They also have sweet potato fries, but no onion rings. To drink, I had a raspberry iced tea (see pic). It was fine. Unsweetened. Plenty of ice. I was happy. As for service and atmosphere, this was only the third day this place has been open, so I got the energetic, new-job, new-store service you often find after a restaurant just opens. The hostess and the waiter were great. Very friendly and accommodating when I asked for a table other than the one to which I was first led. The atmosphere is clean and slick with a bluish neon thing going on (don't recall if there were actually any neon lights here). No fast food or diner vibe (although the waitress at the next table was calling everyone "sweetie" and "hon"). Two flat screens over the bar with the Purdue/Texas game (Purdue was winning! Boiler Up!). They don't have their liqueur license yet, but it looks like beer (bottles & drafts) and wine are coming soon. Oh, and points for good music! While I was there, I heard everything from The Four Seasons to The Go-Go's to The Pretenders, and some more contemporary singer-songwriter stuff. Nice variety and not too loud, although there were not a lot of people there this afternoon. I'm guessing it can get quite a bit louder. So anyway, I will be back. I still need to try the lamb and salmon burgers. They also have non-burger entrees (steak, glazed salmon, salads), and I'll have to give their root beer float a try (Mug brand root beer, BTW).

This place opened around the same time as a number of other burger joints did, and has billed itself as the "high end" one. My friend and I did a tour of all of them at that time, and this place came out on the bottom, even in comparison to Fudd's! Why? First: my shake was terrible--so thin and tasteless that I didn't even finish it. My burger was slightly undercooked, not too bad, but considering how expensive it was, a definite disappointment. But the nail in the coffin was that my friend's burger, which was also slightly undercooked, gave her food poisoning so bad that she didn't go into work for 2 days. Needless to say, I've never been back. Five Guys is nearby, their burgers are cooked consistently to order, and are 3x cheaper. Or if you want a shake or beer with your burger, you're better off going to Holy Cow in the UNM/EDo area.

Started out promising. The fried green beans are only 2 dollars and tasted very good. The green chile mayo dip for the beans was nice and that led us to believe that things would continue in a nice manner. A side salad was even decent with a peanut vinaigrette that was nice. After that the wheels fell off. I had the 5 star burger and my GF had the AHI burger. Just as a recent reviewer had warned, the buns were ICE COLD and stale. The tuna was supposed to have a sear and be quite reddish pink in the middle (medium rare) but this thing was ALOT closer to Medium. Disappointing. My burger WAS medium rare but mostly lacking any flavor and nothing to recommend to anybody. Lastly we were going to share a corn chowder bowl. The flavor may not have been all that bad but the chowder was as cold as our burger buns. When the waitress returned she said the Manager would talk to the Kitchen. HOW ABOUT COMING AND TALKING TO US? Based on this WE WILL NOT RETURN.

Good food but not quite $34 for two burgers, two fries, & two non-alcoholic drinks good... Prob won't be back... These guys need to realize this isn't New York, our median income is BELOW the poverty level... Get over yourself!

Absolutely awesome... I got the Five Star Burger and sweet potato fries when I went there the other day... blows other burger places out of the water. Beef was well seasoned and cooked to perfection, and exactly to how I ordered it. Its perfect for a casual, quick lunch. Service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. I definitely will be back very soon.

Great food! The family's order included an Old Timer burger (basic burger with onion, lettuce, tomato, and pickle on the side), Green Chile cheeseburger, Portabello Stack sandwich, and kids' grilled cheese. This place is really a cafe that specializes in burgers rather than the usual burger joint. Prices are on par with a good cafe, but you get what you pay for. The two burgers were big (half a pound each at least), juicy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked to medium as requested. The Portobello sandwich was awesome, topped with grilled onions, grilled red bell peppers, a breaded and crisp-fried green chile pepper (think preparation of eggplant for eggplant Parmesan) and spiced mayonnaise. The burgers and portobello sandwich came on the great Fano "brioche" buns that the previous reviewer already talked about, so I won't go into it here. The kids' grilled cheese was nothing gourmet, but the white bread was nicely toasted and there was plenty of cheese inside. We also ordered a Caesar salad and an order of fries (half regular potato, half sweet potato) to share. The salad cost $7 but was large enough for 4 generous individual portions, and was delicious and fresh. The fries weren't amazing but tasty enough, and the portion size was deceptively large; there's a lot more in that basket than you'd think. They evidently try to be as ecologically conscious as possible. Their takeout containers are cardboard, they utilize locally made produce as much as possible, their beef is guaranteed hormone-free, and they recycle their frying oil into automobile biodiesel fuel. Service is friendly and adequate. I think they were a bit overwhelmed by how much business they were getting, because the servers were rushing around like crazy. Speaking of business, I am frankly amazed at how much business this place is getting so soon. We arrived around 1pm on a Saturday and the place was about 2/3 full, but by 1:45 the place was PACKED. And they've only been open 8-9 days. How did all these people find out about this place so quickly? FYI: the address listed on this entry says 5901 Academy Blvd, but it's really 5901 Wyoming Blvd. It's in the strip mall between Borders Bookstore and Now We're Cooking (Whole Foods Market is on the other side of Borders).

My husband and I live close and eat here about twice a month. We are what I like to call "frugal foodies". Most of our restaurant experiences involve coupons, happy hours, or gift cards. We LOVE Five Star Burgers because it fits all our criteria--great food at bargain prices---you just have to know when to go (happy hour, 4-6 daily), and what to order. Typically we each get a "slider" off the happy hour menu. The sliders are about the size of a McDonald's burger, and are always hot and luscious; the spicy brown mustard that accompanies them is delish too. We split a basket of mixed fries (sweet potato/regular potato), which are FANTASTIC dipped in the complimentary green chile mayo, and each get a pint of beer (Marble IPA--yum!). For dessert we each get an ice cream cone (a generous scoop of vanilla, chocolate, or Snickers). Total bill including drinks and dessert--under $12.00! We've tried everything on the happy hour menu, and besides the burger enjoy the quesadilla w/ bacon and the fish sandwich. I agree with other reviewers that the service can be rather sluggish, but we bring our ipad and play Scrabble, which helps to pass the time when this happens. There is one server that is certainly more attentive than the rest, so we get a table in her area when we go, which usually speeds it up a bit.

Well. Very expensive place. Try to come once a month BUT they got rid of the tuna. Ordered a turkey burger, was ok. A $12.85 burger with no fries....must be trying to cash in on Academy big $ kids!

5 Star Burger is great, best burgers in town. Great staff, especially J.R. & Sonia. They both make you feel very welcome and give the best service. It has become a regular stop for us!

Pretty good, but nothing impressive. Burgers were tasty, but the fries were really lacking. Nothing special there. The deep fried green chilies were interesting. Got the Banana's Foster shake, but it was only two scoops of ice cream and a crap ton of whipped cream on top. Lame. All in all this is a decent place for local burgers, but by far they cannot beat out Smash Burger in my opinion.

Everyone knows I love burgers, so when there is a new place, I check it out. Happy hour is the best time to come here. They have cheap draft beers, $1.25 burgers, and $1 apps. I went with the "sliders". Sliders are supposed to be small, so I ordered a fish, a beef, and a chicken. I get them and they are each the size a McDonald's cheeseburger. They were ok, I think I liked the fish the best. Also tried the fried green chile strips for $1. It is true what they say...you can deep fry anything and it will be good. I may give this place another try and not order from the happy hour menu next time.

I heard about this place and as a avid burger fan, I had no choice but to try it!! Went there around 7 on a Sunday night. The place was busy. Good sign!!! walked in.. the atmosphere was nice, didn't seem like i was in a normal burger joint. Our server come right away.. Got our drinks out. We ordered the the fried green chili strips as a app. They were great! I ordered the 5 star burger, my girlfriend ordered the old fashioned. They were wonderful. They do not come with mayo, so if you want some, just ask. Everything was great i will come back here many times!!!!! I only gave it 4 stars cause our burgers did take over 20+ come to us, but it was worth the wait!!!

After hearing rave reviews of this place, I decided to go off my diet and give it a try. My family arrived at around 5PM and there was a handful of other patrons seated at various tables. We waited for about 5 minutes for someone to come seat us......that's 4 minutes too long in my opinion. While we were perusing the menu, our waitress brought our drinks. Since it was our first time, we had a lot of questions. Our waitress was very helpful and patient. My husband and I both ordered the 5 star burger, but I ordered Provolone and avocado on mine. Our son ordered the kids fish sliders. Well, we waited about 20 minutes, which isn't that bad. They brought out the food and everything was correct, which for me, is a miracle. I felt like my bun was a few days old because it was falling apart but the burger was good. My husband loved his....but I feel like mine was only okay. It was good but I wouldn't go out of my way (and this place is REALLY out of our way) to have another one. My son's "fish sliders" was NOT "sliders".......it was a massive fish sandwich...bigger than McDonalds. You hear "sliders" and you think "mini", right? Nope....big piece O'fish on small bun. Poor kid took a few bites and decided he didn't like it. BUT...our waitress brought him some Kraft Mac n Cheese (at no extra charge) and that made him happy. The fries were very good. I had the Sweet Potato and my boys had the regular. There wasn't any seasoning on the sweet, but I added some salt and they tasted much better. My husband and son's drinks were promptly refilled.....my iced tea was not. After waiting about 10 minutes with an empty glass, I finally just asked a hostess. That was the only time our waitress let me down. All in all, it was okay. My hubby would give this place 4 stars, but since he's not writing this, I'm giving it 3...based on the "sliders", my bun, the wait to be seated, the wait on my refill, and due to the fact that this burger was really nothing special.

We've been here a few times. The staff could afford to smile. The hostess has this look on her face like "You're not welcome here, but let me find you a place to sit." For what the burgers here costs, I'm not sure what I'm paying for, because the atmosphere is very UNWELCOMING.

Front of house has always bedeviled this joint, but the current crew is epically bad. It is too bad to because the food here can be very good if a little bland for what you would expect at a burger bistro. Hopefully they turn this around.

Very nice place to sit down and enjoy a beer and a burger. They also have wine, but we didn't try it. We went on a Tuesday night and the place was busy, but not packed. I had a green chile cheeseburger and my wife had the old-timer. Both burgers were very good. The side of fries came in a paper lined basked so I expected the paper to get soaked with grease, but it stayed dry the whole time. Overall, we were very pleased with our experience.

I wish I could give half stars. This place rates 3 1/2 stars, not 3. The ambience is nice- reminds me of Blue Burger in Phoenix. When I went there for lunch, the cafe was busy but not full. Service at the bar was great. I only had 10 minutes to eat and dash- had to go all the way across town but I really wanted to try this place out! I ordered the Green Chile Cheeseburger with a half order of fries. I would have tried the mixed cart of fries (they serve regular fries and sweet potato fries) but since I was by myself, went with the smaller order. The cheeseburger arrived and it looked pleasing. The plating was great and after I bit in the burger, I was a bit disappointed. The burger was just a burger. Sure, I would eat it again, but there was nothing special about it. I like burgers with flavor and the cheese & green chile didn't carry over enough flavor. Now, the fries were a different story. When I saw them, I thought "Oh no, another McDonald's wannabe" but no- they were SUPER tasty! I really enjoyed eating those flavorful fries. I wouldn't mind returning just to try their sweet potato fries. Now-- their Happy Hour seems too good to be true. $2 tap beers, $1.25 burgers, and $1 fries daily from 4 to 6 pm. Im sure the burgers are sliders-- the menu didn't say but I would love to try this out sometime. The rest of the menu looked good- maybe another choice of burger would have been better. All in all, a nice addition to the ABQ scene.

Incredible burgers - best in town. Daily fresh ground Angus beef. Haven't tried anything else here but the fires, which I think are good because they are thin and crunchy. My husband likes steak fries, so he is not into them. The Rubens and Grilled Cheese look good, but I have only looked, not tasted. Service is very friendly and prompt. A little noisy. Not so much for a romantic meal. But if you are in the mood for a good burger, cooked just the way you like it, try Five Star Burgers.

I went here with my inlaws during a recent vacation trip, and I think it's a fine joint. Nothing fancy, and the burgers were good although maybe not exactly five stars. The fries were delicious, too. The green chile mayo was a nice twist, but why can't the ketchup be served by bottle so that you can get the amount you want instead of in little condiment dishes? We had to keep asking for more ketchup (party of five really needs a bottle at the table).

My burger was tasty, but the fries weren't anything special. For the price (high!), I would rather eat at Fuddruckers. Fudds' burger is similar in taste, but has far better fries. However, 5-Star serves sweet potato fries (yum) and the ambiance is a pretentious supper club. I'm just saying...

I liked the food and the service was good. Though I do think that nearby five guys burgers is better. If you're looking for a sit-down gig with alcohol, this isn't bad.

When going to a place that claims it's five stars I expect 3 things: good food, good atmosphere and good staff. Let's start with the food. I expect for a five star burger to have one of the simple neccesities of cooking and that is flavor. I found the burger to be bland and lacking any type of spices or even salt. It was dry and I ordered it medium so I expected juices flowing. And the fries were crispy and felt not fresh bit frozen not five stars Atmosphere was decent but felt a bit snobby to be a burger joint I mean linen napkins do not belong on a place that serves burger its a pompous air. To go along with this our server obviously didn't want us there and it seemed our burgers took forever and there were only three other full tables. Dont waste ur time 23 dollars for two dry tasteless burgers and frozen fries? That's preposterous ill be dining at fuddruckers whoch produce fresh fries and delicious properly spiced birgers instead.

this is my 'bobcat bites' -- that's a long drive for a better than decent burger that is located seemingly close to the colorado border-- this one's in a shopping center here in the NE burbs.

OK, so I went to Five Star for the first time the other day. I was told they've got this way of flash-frying green chile and sticking it on the burger, so that's the one I ordered. I'm thinking maybe that process takes awhile, because it took too long for the food to come out. The burger came cooked right, but after waiting so long for the magic chile, it was a little disappointing. And I think the place is a little expensive, too.

We ate at 5 star recently and thought the chile cheeseburger was wonderful!! Good sized, but not huge, tasty, cooked just right, with yummy cheese and flavorful green chile. Pretty expensive for a burger place. BUT, the hostess didn't seat someone who was there before us, and someone else butted in line, successfully!! Not good business practice!!! The customers who were waiting were all muttering together about that, so everyone noticed and didn't like it. Fries were fine, nothing special. Condiments ordinary. They never did refill my diet coke, ever! So, service really needs some work, but the burger was quite good. A toss up whether I'll go there again.

It makes me sad to know that I won't be going back to Five Star to eat their delicious burgers. I went to Five Star yesterday at 3:00 to buy several gift cards for teachers and staff at my child's school. The hostess directed us to the bar to purchase the gift cards. No one was behind the bar. I waited patiently for 5 minutes and still no bartender. I started to look around to see if there was anyone else who could help me. There was an older woman in a Five Star t-shirt sitting at the long table in the middle of the restaurant, about 5 feet away from where I was waiting. She was VERY busy eating a salad and staring at the TVs. She saw me... but no luck. Another 5 minutes went by and I approached the hostess (who was now sitting at a table with the bus boy) and asked if anyone works at the bar. She got up and found the bartender who was too busy to even come out from the back. The older lady with the t-shirt finally stops eating and says with an attitude, "I'll help". I was so frustrated at this point I started to leave. I turned around to the older lady who FINALLY offered to help. I asked her if SHE was the manager. She said, "yes, and I'm on my break". That did it. I'm done. They obviously don't care about potential customers and they don't need ANY business. BEWARE OF THE AWFUL SERVICE!

My favorite happy hour spot that has amazing specials from 4-6pm. Super cheap & the sliders are just as good as the big boys. Order extra sides of the green chile mayo for anything you get, simply amazing!

Over priced but ok. From taos, and in taos it's a 5 star burger- something got lost in the move south... Order the taos burger - it's the Brest burger on the menu. BBQ green chili -how can that not be good!

  • Raquel G.

The fried green beans with the green chile mayo and the green chile strips were pretty good. Contrary to the name, these burgers were not five star whatsoever. My expectations were pretty high for this place but the patty itself was pretty bland. The toppings barely added any flavor. The service was pretty fast and our server made sure our experience went well.

5 Star is one of the 2 best happy hours in this part of town. Every day 4-6pm. Almost everything on the menu is $2 or less. Sliders are high quality, seasoned beef. Fried green chile strips and green beans are fantastic. You can also enjoy $2.50 pints that includes La Cumbre Elevated IPA.

Sunday afternoon at 2:00. No host to greet anyone. At least 6 tables open but covered in dirty dishes. Waited but no one ever came so we left. Food is very good, but management needs to get it together.

We have been here twice, both times for lunch (tried once for dinner but at 5:30 on a Friday the wait was just too long for us). I had the turkey burger, sans bread, and it was so fabulous that I ordered the same thing both times. My friends had an Octoberfest burger and sweet potato fries and a salad and something else (I was far too busy snarfing my burger to pay attention). Anyway, the service was very good and the food was delicious. I did not get a chance to partake of their beer or wine menu so am hoping to add the fifth star next time. Yumminess.

I wrote my first review of Five Star Burgers in 2010, and my five star review of this five star joint stands firm. It's been years, and Five Star is still our go-to when it comes to awesome burgers. We live on the Westside. Five Star is a good fifteen miles away. Do we complain? No! We get in the car and we smack our lips all the way there. If you want a great burger, this is your place. If you want to watch the game over a local microbrew, this is your place. If you want a killer salad that isn't wilted or drenched in dressing, this is your place. If you want some awesome fried pickles or green beans, get in here. I sound like an ad, but it really is that great. Have we had a few iffy experiences here over the years? Yes. It happens. An inexperienced waitress, a burger that's a bit overdone... those are the pitfalls of any restaurant and can't be entirely avoided. And yet those experiences were but a blip on the radar of awesome when it comes to Five Star. Rumor had it that Five Star was going to open up a place on the Westside. This has yet to happen, and it's probably for the better of everyone's waistline. But if it DID happen, oh man. Word of advice: order up medium at best, medium rare or rare if you know how to eat burgers. Avoid the hockey puck and be wowed.

This was my first visit to 5 star and I thought it was deserving of four of those stars. My wife and I went there for lunch. They had a solid selection of local beers. Too bad I was on the clock and couldn't enjoy that aspect. We started with fried green chile strips - very New Mexico and very tasty. I had the lamb burger and my wife the buffalo burger. Both cooked to order and well seasoned and plenty of green chile mayo to top it. My only complaint is the a la carte menu made the price seem a bit high, even for a quality burger ($30 for lunch for two even without the beer). All in all we got friendly and quick service in a relaxed atmosphere and juicy burgers. Definitely worth another visit.

Don't need to type much about Five Star Burgers. It was pretty darn good and an easy solid four stars (it takes quite a bit to get a five from me). I ordered the monthly special burger which was a Gouda bacon cheeseburger which was outstanding. Everything about the burger was fantastic and the quality of the meat was great. Shared an order or fries with three other people (the fry baskets are big) and they were good as well. We did get an appetizer of green chile strips which turned out to not be the best simply because there was no flavor to them and only tasted of deep fried batter. The service was good and overall it was a great lunch. I do hear their happy hour is great and with local pints for $2.50, that sounds like a winner to me.

Some friends introduced me to this place a couple of weeks ago. At first, I thought one of my friends had the name wrong when she said "Five Star Burgers." "You mean 'Five GUYS', right?" "No, it's Five STAR." Oops, my bad. Even though the names of the burger joints are similar, the food is quite different! Five Star Burgers offers a variety of different proteins for their burgers, as well as some non-meat options for people who aren't so fond of ground meat, like me. We started with some regular fries, sweet potato fries, and fried green chile strips to start. HOLY SMOKES! Those fried green chile strips DELICIOUS!!! I've found myself craving those bad boys every so often. I wish they opened a location closer to where I live. The fries/sweet potato fries were pretty good, nothing out of the ordinary though, but I start salivating every time I think about those fried green chile strips. Mmmmm.... Next, we had our burgers. I ordered the portabella burger which was pretty good. A little heavy on the balsamic vinegar, but pretty good nonetheless. It came with a side of coleslaw and had some of those delicious morsels of fried green chile in it, too! Everyone we dined with said their burgers were pretty good as well, and would definitely come back again. The bf had a bison burger, which he thought would be dry, so he was pleasantly surprised with how juicy it turned out. To end the meal, we ordered some ice cream cones! I think they were only $1 each! I ended up getting a scoop of the Snickers ice cream, which was SO GOOD! Great way to end the meal. I also highly suggest the raspberry iced tea. I don't know if it comes sweetened, but unsweetened was really good! It had a very subtle raspberry taste that I really enjoyed. All-in-all, definitely give Five Star Burgers a try! They're also located in the same shopping center as Whole Foods, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Now We're Cooking, etc. We walked off some calories after our meal by window shopping afterwards. =)

Pretty good overall--would definitely come back. Had bison burger and friend had portobello mushroom stack. We split sweet potato fries (small order) and portions were perfect. Would say 3.5 stars---service is slow, but I think it was more the kitchen than the servers.

  • Desiree P.

Best burger I've had in town (specifically the Taos burger). The service was a bit slow and the waitstaff could have been friendlier, which is why I am not giving this place 5 stars.

One of the best happy hour deals in town if you can get a table. Track lighting, rectangular porcelain plates and cloth napkins help you convince yourself that you are enjoying fine dining but the truth is, Girl you just ate like four hamburgers! I said "like" four hamburgers because from 4pm-6pm they're called "sliders" and are therefore sophisticated, healthy, and superior in every way to hamburgers. You wouldn't do that at Wendy's. You definitely wouldn't do that at McDonalds. But for some strange reason this place is jam packed with a half hour wait with people ready to get busy on those $1.25 sliders. I enjoyed the hamburgers. Wouldn't recommend the chicken slider.

I want to start by saying that typically I love this place!! It has by far the best burgers in Albuquerque. I have mentioned before that I cannot go as often as I would like to because I try to be very careful with how and what I eat. But recently I have been able to tweak my order so that I can still enjoy the food without gaining 15 lbs :-) I am usually impressed with the service. Yesterday was a different story. My friend and I went in at 12:30 yesterday, 12/01/14. The server seemed very inexperienced and very stressed. We asked for our drinks and it took several minutes to get them. There were literally less then 12 people in the restaurant at this time. When we finally got our drinks, she forgot the straws, and it took another 10 minutes before we could even place our order. I placed a very specific order (which typically comes to me PERFECT!!) which was a turkey burger, no salt, no bread and sweet potato fries, also no salt. It took over 20 minutes to get our food. When I finally tasted my burger is was BATHED in salt. I asked my friend to taste it as well, and he agreed that it was very salty. I gave the burger to the manager and asked to just take it back, as I did not want any revenge from the waitress. I just ate the potatoes which I found out never are salted :-) The manager did indeed removed the burger from my ticket. But the waitress seemed to not really care. Rather than tip her, I left her a note on the back of the receipt. this is not typical for me, but my service on this day was not typical for Five Star. I hope that the boss sees this and helps that server to be a better fit for the company. We will be back, but if she is there I will ask for another waiter/waitress.

Five star also opened on 1710 Central Ave. The hamburgers are to die for it's not your regular hamburger you've got to give it a try it's amazing. The owner has been in the restaurant business all of his life. He rear chez recipes and ingredients to deliver the very best to YOU.

The food is always fantastic for a burger joint, it really is five star. However, the service is not always the best. We ate there yesterday and found the best server ever, Beth thanks Beth, she is fast, courteous and very efficient she was handle a lot of tables. Thanks again Beth

is Right! We're new to ABQ and this place will be a regular stop! Local brews on tap and delicious burgers. We had the green chili burger and the Taos burger with a side of sweet potato fries to share. The burgers were big! There's also the option to build your own burger for picker eaters Service was friendly and helpful. The restaurant is clean and easy to find. It's a bit loud inside but there is a patio with a really awesome view of the mountains. I don't know if it's dog friendly but next time I'll ask. Happy hour nightly with beer and food specials. I think it'll be a good place to walk to for happy hour with the dog and watch the mountain change colors!

After ordering Takeout and getting a soggy bun on my green Chili Burger, I was contacted by a manager thanking me for my review and suggested I come and eat at the restaurant. So here I am, enjoying my 5 Star burger with a side of fries. The food was perfect (no soggy bun), the service was perfect, never once had to ask for a refill. GREAT experience. Pricey...but that's what you have to pay if you want a gourmet burger like this. I appreciated the manager contacting me after my first review...that tells me they are in the customer care business.

This past weekend was burger weekend for us!! I don't know why it took so long to try this place. The burgers were awesome and the service was spot on. I will definitely be back here for some more awesomeness. I had the Old Timer with avocado and crispy jalapenos. Our server was great, she definitely knows the menu and offered great suggestions. I think I might have a beer with my burger next time, the bars looks great.

  • Aleks M.

You never get a second chance to make a first impression! When you pay $11 for a hamburger and it doesn't come with fries then the service better be spectacular, unfortunately this was not the case. Our burgers arrived unusually fast and a bit on the colder side. The order was missing mayo as we had asked for and the children's burger didn't come with cheese, also what we had asked for. And to top it all off, it took more than 10 minutes to pay for my food once the check was dropped off. I gave it 2 stars because the food wasn't completely terrible, but it was terribly overpriced for what we got.

  • Greg M.

Ok, let me start by saying my family goes to 5 Star during happy hour almost weekly (recurring appointment nearby). Here's the truth: the food and prices are INCREDIBLE, and the service is consistently AWFUL. Few of the waitstaff is consistent from week to week and they are always slow, forgetful and inattentive. As much as I love 5 Star, it's difficult to excuse the quality of the service. We have found the Old Town-ish location to have better service overall, so we may have to finally tap out of the east side.

Perfect night with my girlfriends. We got a seat on the patio and it was a lovely evening. Rain started to come down but we were perfectly comfortable underneath their outdoor patio. I ordered their quinoa salad and added avocado and chicken per the servers recommendation. It was delicious and add tons of flavor. The service was quite impressive and the patio outside was clean and not crowded.

WOW - this place is the bomb!! Always heard it was good so we decided to drop in - soooo glad we did. Service was outstanding and words can not describe how good the burger was - ordered bison burger with Apple bacon, smokes provolone Chesse, and bbq sauce.... A-MAZ-ING!!

When my husband and I crave a good burger this is a place we enjoy. The burgers a very good, juicy, local meat, cooked to perfection and delicious buns. My husband loves the sweet potato fries and I love the regular fries, and we can have the best of both worlds in a combo basket with both mixed together. Everything is a la carte so if you want fries, burger, salad, you are going to pay quite a bit! Unless you happen to make it for happy hour. Great deals at happy hour on sliders and sides. The chop chop chicken salad is amazing! We usually split it and I even replicate it at home and it is delicious! Finally, they have an amazingly affordable dessert, $1 shooter ice cream cones!!!

Love 5star burgers. They probably have the best happy hour in town... It runs from 4 to 6 and you can eat good and have a fantastic craft beer or two for really cheap. It will get busy though so you are better off getting there before 5 most days. Do yourself a favor and try the fried green beans. They also have a small patio.

  • Cherene K.

Absolutely one of our favorites!! Delicious food that makes your mouth water while you're eating healthy. Great staff! Our only wish: Hey, this is New Mexico!! When we order green chile, we should have the option of getting it HOT. So far it's okay for those who like it mild, but we hot chile lovers need a choice too. Other than that, we've never been disappointed.

Five stars? Naw, but pretty darn good. Came here with my family, and everyone but me ordered a burger. I ordered the quinoa. My family what like, "What?" For two reasons. First reason: WHAT IS QUINOA? The second reason: HOW DO YOU NOT ORDER A BURGER AT A BURGER PLACE? I told them I was trying to eat healthy. But I sampled all of their burgers, which were very good. The quinoa salad was also amazing. Friends, know that they serve healthy options at Five Star Burgers. Well done. Washed it all down with a good IPA.

I have eaten here a number of times and really enjoy the burgers. They taste fresh just like they were freshly ground and made in the back with fresh, grass fed beef. My wife and I enjoy our burgers to be well done and somehow they still come out juicy and nice. Learned this week that you can order a "topless" burger meaning it will come without the bun top. Also can order it in a lettuce wrap too. Think I will try that next time. We also had a maple flavored type mayo that went perfect with the sweet potato fries. Can't wait until my next visit!

More people should be here for lunch! I had a lovely experience here as I visit ABQ for the week. The waitstaff was great, ask for becca. I got a green chili burger because I love the green chili here. I also split sweet potato fries and alien amber beer with my mate. All foods were tasty and were well prepared. The atmosphere is chill and nice to spend your lunch hour. They serve beer and wine. Loved it!

Five Star, I love you, really I do. But 35 minutes for you to take our order is an all-time record. I forgive you when you forget napkins. Or silverware. Or even misplace our order. But you need to tighten up your game. Waiting over an hour, even for an awesome burger, is unforgivable.

  • Tory M.

The good, the bad and the ugly! Lets start with the good: I liked the fried green beans, different and interesting. The sauce they serve with it is really good too. Been there twice and had the bison once and the 5 star burger the second time. The meat is tasty and appears fresh, my bison was prepared how I asked but the beef was slightly overcooked. The bad: Why would you crumble bacon to go on top of a burger? Either its not real bacon or they can get away with using less. The onion rings are bland and tasteless served with ketchup... from a bottle? And finally the ugly: Service, service, service. No one thinks anymore. Usually when a host/ess seats you he/she also lays down your rolled silverware with the menus.... not here. We had to ask AFTER we got our appetizer. Granted at a burger joint there is little use for silverware, unless of course you want to cut your burger in half or eat your sliced tomato and onion "off burger". The women next to us never received any cloth napkins or silverware, when they asked for napkins the server gave them the simple disposable paper ones, while we were in the lap of luxury with our cloth napkins. And geeze... how many trips does it take to remember my carryout box.

Don't listen to any haters of this place. It's worth more than a try. The food tastes of fresh ingredients. The 5 star, green chile, Taos, bison, and lamb burgers are delicious. Use your imagination and ask for suggestions. I'm working my way through the menu and will update my review. As far as drinks, the Black Dahlia, lemon shandy, pink lemonade, and sangria are decent. Happy hour is everyday from 4-6pm and makes it all worth the drive. House wine, red or white, from Botabox is $3.50 a glass. Pints are $2.50 and all the apps are cheap. Be sure to get the green chile mayo on the side. It goes great with everything if you are a true New Mexican. Also ask for the blue cheese sauce on the side because it can make fries and breaded apps a bit soggy by the end. Frickles, fresh made chips, and sweet potato fries round out the sides. Most of the sliders are less than $2 each (lobster slider is $3.50). Service is good with high turnover so if service isn't good, say something. It will be made right. Our server this time was Luis, attentive and very polite. Happy taste buds

Great staff and food! Although happy hours suck due to the number of drunk parents that let their unruly children use the space for a playground. Loud noisy un-respectful drunken parents who fill the kids with sugar drinks. Nothing new here! To bad it's a great place!

They shall now be called TWO STAR BURGERS in my book. The food was just OK. It seemed like it was of good quality but not all that great to taste. We showed up about 2 minutes before Happy Hour and got charged FULL PRICE for our beer. Besides being SLOW on everything else, the server never even suggested that we might be two minutes early for the beer. It took over an hour for our meal to be completed. This isn't fast food, but it could be faster. They were not busy when we arrived. SLOW and POOR service. Never refilled drinks, or asked if we wanted anything else. We were just ignored. I was done eating for 20 minutes before she even considered bringing the check. The Manager offered to adjust the bill (I guess she surmised we were not exactly happy) but we figured they should have done that from the start. I do not recommend this place to eat. I expected MUCH more from the TV advertising and the price I had to pay.

I've become a regular at Five Star. The traditional burgers are great, but I don't always feel like beef. That's where FS beats all the rest. The alternative burgers are terrific. Try the turkey with cranberry chutney, the bison with crispy green chile, or the crab cake burger.....all delicious. Great food combined with great staff. What's not to love?

5 Stars for 5 Star Burgers! We eat there every Saturday and love the 4-6pm happy hour. $2.50 premium draft beers and $1.65 sliders. Our waiter Luis was top notch and the place has an excellent atmosphere. Try the deep fried green chili strips, they are the best!

Great kid friendly restaurant! Had the five star burger and tasted the burger of the month (forgot name, but had Gorgonzola and new sauce on it), both fantastic. Great service and clean.

Burger was over priced for a regular burger. Fries were ok but could be better. I felt crammed in the dining area like a sardine. I could bump elbows with the person sitting next to me. And I felt rushed by the waitress to eat and leave. I will not be going back.

Just because you call yourself "Five Star X" doesn't necessarily make it so. To be truly 5 star, you've got to excel in all categories and/or bring me something unique. Here's where 5 Star Burgers excels and earns their stars: The food. Excellent. I was tempted to try the variety of burgers they have on offer (everything from lamb to bison to salmon), but I thought to truly gauge them I'd have to go with the ol' standard for New Mexico: the green chile cheeseburger. I had them add some bacon, and boy, they did not miss the mark on this one. Now, granted, it's hard to mess up this combination of meat, dairy, and peppers, but when someone does it does not bode well. Well, Five Star, you met the test, so go you. I also liked their beers on draft, and their happy hour specials. 1/2 off draft? Yes, please. Oh, and their sides are delicious: fried pickles, anyone? Fried jalapenos? It's like being at the state fair, all year long! Here's where 5 Star Burgers loses a star: The service. The place wasn't that busy when we walked in. There were two dudes ahead of us, the greeter met them and they requested a table outside, he told us he'd be back in a moment. We saw them be seated, and then greeted high tailed it back to the kitchen. I looked at my date, like "what?" Finally a girl came to the podium, and seated us at the bar. No bar tender to be seen. There were waitresses literally to my left, milling about and chatting, and we're just sitting there at the bar with no drinks, no attention whatsoever. Bartender shows up, and she's obviously flustered. Takes our drink orders, pours them, gives them to us and then disappears. We sip awhile, she comes back, we order. She forgets the order while looking at us. We wanted two burgers, it wasn't that complicated. We remind her of the orders, and when she brings out the appetizer it's not the right thing (but at this point we're starving, we're not raise a kerfuffle). They did get the burgers right, so I thank them for that. All in all, the service theme for the night was overstaffed and underserved.

Awesome new restaurant! My husband and I got the "Old Timer" burger with green chili and the Spinach salad and they were both so tasty! The waitress Michelle was so wonderful! She provided great service, recommendations for beer/food, and was very friendly. They have a great beer selection and cool happy hour specials. The atmosphere is really nice. This place is definately our new spot!

The burgers are top notch and addicting! I seriously start having withdrawals after a few weeks of not eating here. But the reason this place gets 5 stars is because of its AMAZING happy hour! $2.50 drafts of ANY beer! Did I mention that they carry many New Mexico brews including Marble, La Cumbre, Sierra Blanca, Chama River, and Santa Fe! All for $2.50! They also have great food specials during happy hour and the wine is also discounted. 4pm - 6pm everyday is when you need to be here!

Awesome service and food. We sat at the bar and were served by Lauren, she was quick, accurate and had great suggestions. Even though known for their burgers I ended up going with the salmon entree which was perfectly cooked, rivaled any fine restaurant... would highly recommend. Also highly recommend sitting at the bar if Lauren is working :).

Awesome! Only reason it is not getting 5 stars is because it is so far from my house.

  • Eric S.

WOW - this place is the bomb!! Always heard it was good so we decided to drop in - soooo glad we did. Service was outstanding and words can not describe how good the burger was - ordered bison burger with Apple bacon, smokes provolone Chesse, and bbq sauce.... A-MAZ-ING!!

  • Jen C.

    (5)
  • Jim B.

I would say the green chili burger is the best the atmosphere is nice as well. A little small inside but that wasn't a huge issue. Sweet potato fries also deffiantly a must I feel it is a little pricey, but for great food.

Absolutely awesome... I got the Five Star Burger and sweet potato fries when I went there the other day... blows other burger places out of the water.

  • Sutter S.

Five star also opened on 1710 Central Ave. The hamburgers are to die for it's not your regular hamburger you've got to give it a try it's amazing. The owner has been in the restaurant business all of his life. He rear chez recipes and ingredients to deliver the very best to YOU.

5 Star is getting better. Ingredients taste fresh. They make they're own sauces! Fresh tartar, coleslaw, green chile mayo, and blue cheese dip are all fresh and tasty.

Loved it!

  • Anneliese E.

Five Star, I love you, really I do. But 35 minutes for you to take our order is an all-time record. I forgive you when you forget napkins. Or silverware. Or even misplace our order. But you need to tighten up your game. Waiting over an hour, even for an awesome burger, is unforgivable.

Decent, but all in all not memorable. Adequate hamburgers and beer, friendly service, boring 'fast food' like atmosphere with plenty of colourful plastic surfaces. Ok. Not superb. Probably won't return.

Yumminess.
