Grumpy staffer, middling sandwich, in an area of many choices how the customer is treated matters much. Too bad there is no negative stars on Yelp. I stopped at Zach's 6:30 AM today, one guy at table using laptop, one customer waiting by register. Lady behind the counter on grill looked up, I caught her eye, she didn't offer a good morning, so I did, and received a grunt type, "Yeah." She finished with the other guy, looked at me without words, so I spoke and ordered a taylor ham sandwich on a bagel. All the while, the puss never left her face, making me feel like I was being intrusive instead of a paying customer. She proceeds to make my sandwich, brings it up and slaps it on the counter, "Is that it?" I paid, waited, then she goes, "Oh you want a bag." I said please, mind you she just bagged and napkined the guy before me without question. She plopped the sandwich in the bag, turned to leave without thanking me, I stopped her and asked for napkins. She said, "Oh, you want those too", shoved aside the pad that was hiding them and said, "here." She then turned and went into the back, still wearing that attitude. Sandwich was ok, nothing to go back for, better choices abound. Now we all have bad days and don't always enjoy our jobs, but don't project your lackadaisical mood at the customer. I was going to tell her to buy a round bed so she could never get up on the wrong side but decided to just let my non-patronage of the business do the taking for me.

Ever since new ownership, food and bagels are much better. Everything is fresh and most is made to order. Usually stop 3 times a week on the way to work. They have a great following of locals who meet every morning, have breakfast and talk, which is nice. Everyone who works there is nice and happy, even when it's really early in the morning. I also like that if I don't have any cash, they accept credit card and there's an ATM. So, you don't have to worry about not having your morning coffee and bagel!!
