Consistently good diner-food. The french dip sandwich has always been good here, with no skimping on the meat. The au jus is salty but fits well with the sandwich. Their French Onion soup wasn't too enjoyable in my opinion as the onions weren't chopped up, so I was getting full rings of onion all together in my soup which wasn't very drinkable/edible. Their gyro has also been pretty good with their tzakziki sauce being nice and garlicky. I think their pancakes are actually quite good. Some meals are definitely better than others here, but the ones I've had have been consistently good and it's difficult to find a good casual place this around the area. The service has been on-and-off okay with excellent waiters and others who couldn't care less about you. But overall I like this place.

Solid late night diner food. Sandwiches, salads and breakfast. What else could you ask for?

I've only ever come here for late-night food after drinking with friends. It's the perfect place to soak up adult beverages with delicious, previously-frozen fried food! My favorite items to order are your typical NJ diner comfort foods: -Disco fries (a plate of fries topped with gravy and melted cheese, to be dipped in copious amounts of ketchup). -Mozzarella sticks (with an extra side of marinara, I LOVE my tomato-based condiments) -Pancakes -Some sort of cheesy omelet with plenty of crispy hash browns on the side (also with copious amounts of ketchup) That is the extent of what you should order here, in my opinion. Also, come with some friends that you love way too late at night, and tip the college-kid server well. They have to put up with 25 drunker versions of you all night.

My husband and I went here for dinner on a Friday night. We had a lovely experience. Our waiter was excellent (better than some fine dining establishments we have been to) and we left him a $10 tip on a $37 bill because he did such an exceptional job.The atmosphere was much nicer than your average diner with fun light fixtures and a bit of flair. I had one of the fresh juices and it was delicious. I also had the hot open turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes. It was excellent. My husband had a dinner special of fish cakes and Mac and cheese. That was delicious as well. You can tell that the mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese were homemade on site. My husband also had a raspberry and peach smoothie which was also excellent. This place deserves a lot more than two and a half stars. Give it a try!

Can I give it no stars? I got food poisoning here. All I had was pancakes and an omelette. I was never so sick in my life. And I know it was from this place because it was the only thing I ate that day. The food tasted awful so I should have known. O and the waitress was either drunk or stoned or some combination thereof. Worst diner ever.

Poor service, rude waiter, our food not only took over 40 minutes to arrive but also was not what we ordered and had to be sent back! The silverware was dirty, overall the whole place was pretty dirty. I can not think of a single reason to ever go back here. Yuck!

Best iced coffee ever. Freshly brewed perfect! Service excellent. Great value for dinner.

I love to come here early AM with my daughter and wife. It is kid friendly ( at least at that time) and at 7am you can have the place to yourself or with a few families. Excellent breakfast fare. The service is good. The pancakes & eggs are very good and the bacon, requested crispy was as ordered. I love their sausage links and the French toast and waffels ( on two separate occasions) were good as well. The problem is consistency. Come here on a weekend during rush and the kitchen and staff must lose their minds. They clearly cant handle the volume without the operation falling apart. I went with my mom and daughter for an 11:30 am Sunday plate of eggs, a grilled cheese and a Gyro and we didn't get out of there until 2pm! We sat and watched while other groups that came in after us get served and left before we even saw our meals. The food was off. Our well done ordered bacon was under done. The gyro contained some strange sausage-esque lamb patty that wasn't terrible but wasn't good either. Fortunately the waitress, I always got to hand it to the waitresses, was pleasant and apologetic and took the bacon off the order upon request. Is it the wait-staff's fault for the delay and bad food? No, I don't think so. Is 24 bucks too much to pay for some substandard eggs, a grilled cheese and a gyro. YES! Will I return back. When I add it up the answer is clearly, NO!

I believe the diner has potential to be great. They have a great location off 24. And I like the eggs always cooked perfectly. Sometimes the crowd comes all at once, which may overwhelm the kitchen, overall, I think they try to give good food 24/7, which can't be easy.

How can a diner screwed up your egg? I asked for sunny side up coz I love runny egg over my corned beef hash. The eggs came out well done. I totally think they precooked it and they heat it up before serving. He also offered if I want french fries instead of home fries which I gladly accepted. And it came with home fries!!! And when I pointed it out to him, instead of just bringing out French fries on the side, he disappeared with my plate for 5 minutes. I didn't even want to think about what they did with my food. Arrrggghhhh!!!! What a way to ruin my Sunday.

My wife and I came here after hitting the gym across the street. We arrvied startving. Right after sitting down I checked yelp and saw the 2.5 star rating. Immeddiately I went, "Uh Oh!" But it was too late... menus were handed out and we had to order. Now, I realize I am at a diner and not some 5 star restaurant but seriously? Waiting more than 30 mins for eggs and bacon? Slow service aside, the real horror story was the food. My wife's eggs benedict came out looking disgusting... her poached eggs were cooked completely through (so well done that the egg yokes were solid). My bacon was... oh boy, how can one f*ck up bacon, you ask? Well, by using CHEAP ass cuts of bacon. It was so bad... the meat tasted rancid. Last but not least, I ordered a side of their "world's best" pancakes (with choclolate chips). Again, how can chocolate anything be bad, right?! WRONG!!!! Again, they used the CHEAPEST of cheap chocolate chips... Tasted like crap i took one bite and wanted to spit it out. "World's best"... my ass! Needless to say we left pissed. Really don't understand why this place was so packed. Come on people... where are your standards....??? Oh wait, that's right, I forget, I live in the 'burbs now, no one cares about quality food here. Anyone can open a restaurant and do OK in the Jersey 'burbs. Ps. Anyone who gives this place anything more than 2 stars either need to have their taste buds checked or are related to the owners. (And to the guy who gave it 5 stars -- really? I mean, REALLY??!!)

If you go here for breakfast food you will have a great meal. I won't recommend dinner. A quick burger or sandwich isn't bad, but then again it's hard to mess that up.

Wont be eating here again...came during the week. Place was nearly empty and the service was super slow. Ordered a spinach feta omelet and it was dry, home fries yikes! I added a pic for u. Should have gone to Panera.

The pancakes are claimed to be the best. There is a big sign right out front saying the Best. Let's be real clear. These pancakes are so plain. There are many other places in NJ and within a 20 minute drive with better pancakes. My wife had to send her omelet back because it was undercooked in the middle. The service was good.

Fast and friendly service with giant portions. I was very happy that we decided to check out the Broadway Diner. It is our new favorite diner in the area and it will become a regular destination. We came for a late Friday dinner (around 9:30) after working late. We were seated right away and the waitress was extremely friendly. The food came out very fast and was delicious. We both left stuffed and happy.

As far as Jersey Diners go, well, let's just say there are better...and I don't know if I've experienced one with more potential for improvement. Ordered a Bloody Mary. And waited. And waited. And waited. Had to ask two other servers if they'd seen our waiter. Not good. Food was sparse, prices a tad high, and service was amateurish.....too bad...

Every time I come to the Broadway Diner I remember why it's been a year since my last visit. The host/hostess never smiles and never says hello. They don't have the courtesy to pour your 1st cup of coffee. They just put your carafe on the table and walk away. No substitutions on breakfast home fries. How hard is it to give me a scoop of cottage cheese instead of the greasy potatoes? Last time here. I promise.

  • Dustin P.

The food was bland, overcooked, and made with cheap ingredients. The customer service was poor. The server forgot to bring my son's juice and the employee at the cash register seemed annoyed that he had to put down his phone to ring us up. There was not a "hello" or "how was your meal" from the young man at the cash register, probably because he knew my response would have been that the food is terrible.

We have been going to the Broadway diner for quite a while. The food is always consistantly good, service is pleasant, and the prices are comparable to any diner in NJ. They say the "Worlds Best Pancakes". They are very good. Besy? I don't know. But REALLY GOOD! The dinner meals are delicous, and the specials change up weekly. The decor is a little soda shoppish. Broadway tunes are playing throughout the restaurant. All in all, better than your average diner in NJ. When you find a good one, stick with it, because there are plenty of greasy spoon, bad ones here in NJ. To my followers: This is a good consistant standby for a meal or a late night snack.

I grew up going here every Sunday. The pancakes and omelets are amazing and they make their own orange juice.

  • Nicole G.

I've been here quite a few times though, not so much lately. No particular reason, just haven't been in this area too much. I can't say I've ever ordered anything that didn't taste good. Jersey is full of diners, and this one is a decent one for sure. A diner that serves LAMB gyro's is A OK in my book. I stopped by after bible study the other night and took one to go. Let me just tell you, I gave that gyro the business. Can't wait till my next fix.

THIS PLACE SUCKS. FOOD IS AWFUL I got a grilled cheese with bacon. The bacon was so bad I had to take it off and not eat it. The french fries had no taste and could not finish them. Do not go here over priced and bad food.

Fair would be the best description for this diner overall. Place is clean, always an odd reception at the front door, and never seems that busy (only come here 6-9pm). The menu is expansive, something for everyone. The wait staff is just fair. Prob could attract better talent if they were busier. Bfast items (avail all day) are okay. They do have great pancakes (I like the Danish pancakes and the 9-grain French Toast). Their dinner entrees and sandwiches are just okay. Not impressed with the overall preparation or the value for them. One of their biggest downfalls is their desserts. Pathetic is the best description I can use. ALWAYS tastes old and bland. I had a chix pot pie last night and it was just fair. It came with a dessert. They would not tell me what my choices were until my meal was over. I then was offered what was the end of two different pies/cakes. I was alway taught to "buy with my eyes". Well, after a quick purview of what was available to me, I opted for rice pudding (how can you screw that up). Well, they figured out how too. They were generous enough to give me all of the hardened crust on the top layer of the batch. NOT impressive! I've been here 25 times over the past 3!years or so. Suffice to say, I have a pretty good read on the place. I'm not sure what can save it. Maybe they have a big bfast and lunch business. If it wasn't so convenient for us, we would cross it off of our list.

The Broadway convinced me to sign up for yelp so that I could write a bad review. They just don't care. Rude waitress, uncooked eggs, unripe banana in the World Famous Pancakes, and a manager and ownership who could care less about it all. My favorite line was that the home fries were close to raw because the owner likes them that way, even though everyone complained. Spend your money somewhere else.

Came here last night because it was the only place open at the time. Nothing on the menu looked decent so I ordered a grilled mushroom and onion burger under the waitress' recommendation. The burger tasted a bit odd, on top of not being seasoned and drenched in oil. The waffle fries were under cooked. I was ignored twice when I asked for my check, and finally the waitress brought a semi wet check... NEVER going back again.

I'm a huge fan of Broadway. Delicious French onion soup, crazy good breakfast food. Delicious paninis. And all at an affordable price! The place is open 24/7 and the staff is great. Fantastic diner, fantastic food, loveeeee it.

I thought that the prices for the diner were high compared to other diners I had been to. We spent $33 before tax & tip for three people, when normally this amount is between $24 to $27. The pancakes weren't that great. The bottom of the pancake seemed to peel off whenever I sliced a part & ate it. The wait staff was very hit-or-miss. We only saw our waiter when we ordered & when he gave us the check. I looked at other waiters & waitresses who routinely checked to see how their clients were handling the food.

Love the Broadway Diner. It was staple during my childhood until I moved out of Summit. To the people who say the service sucks, I'm shocked! One of the reasons I would frequent Broadway was because of the fast friendly service. (Maybe it was because I was regular that I was better served, I don't know) But I've never had bad service at Broadway. And the food is diner food, so yeah it's not the best 5 star meal you'll ever have. But there paninis kick-ass, I love their pancakes, and they've never screwed up my eggs. But do avoid their hashbrowns, those do suck. But still it's 4 star DINER. They have tons of options and besides for the hashbrowns all of them are good, if not great.

Came for Father's Day breakfast. Very over priced for what you get and service not all that great. Waited 1/2 hr for breakfast items we ordered and it was border line cold. Food is just your average diner food and price is 1/3 higher than most joints. Not worth it!

Walking into the lobby, I could see that the diner was split into two sections. We were seated in the right hand section. It reminded me of a room from the 1950's or 1960's - decor-wise I mean. And that it NOT a bad thing. Plus with the 50's, 60's music playing, it brought me back in time. I thought the plate glass window was a nice touch and liked the hanging orange lamps over all the tables on the perimeter. Our waitress did not speak English that well but was competent. My bf ordered a dinner while I ordered a sandwich and we both got salads. Interestingly, our salads (which were both huge) were a bit different. He got onions in his while I got more of a Greek type salad, complete with kalamata olives and cucumbers and tomatoes. My sandwich was HUGE, so huge I couldn't finish and need to take it home. My bf's dinner was ok, he finished but he wanted a baked potato and got mashed instead. Not sure if the waitress didn't hear him or didn't understand? Prices were reasonable and such LARGE portions. We will def. come back here.

I have really tried to like this diner. I live in Summit and have been there probably 7 times hoping it will be better. Today was the last time. My family and I went for breakfast. It was crowded so I thought it was a good sign that it was going to be good. The orange juice was sour. I ordered blueberry pancakes but got regular. She said she didn't hear me say blueberry. She asked if I wanted some blueberries on the side. Umm...no. The egg on the side was cold. My son had a kids' turkey dinner and it didn't come with a vegetable because when the bill came the waitress said that "vegetables aren't available that early in the day". It was 1pm. She didn't come by and ask how we were. Just brought the check and neglected to ask if my kid wanted the dessert that came with his meal or of we wanted something else. I asked for his dessert to go as we were out the door. The unisex bathroom was FILTHY and disgusting. I will not be trying this place ever again. Not even for coffee.

It's a diner. If you're expecting a gourmet meal, go to a gourmet restaurant. If you want eggs, pancakes, bacon, a grilled cheese sandwich, or a fried shrimp basket, go to Broadway Diner. Friendly service, full bar (between noon and midnight), great specials, open 24 hours a day. One of many great NJ diners.

Was taken over by new management a year or so ago and has spiraled downhill. You will wait for about 20 minutes before anybody comes to your table. After you order, the wait staff makes you feel like your inconveniencing them. Food is terrible, absolutely terrible, and after your food is served you will not see the waitress again fir about 20 minutes. Much better diner options around.

    (1)
  • Craig A.

This is a good breakfast place, but you really ought to go just for the pancakes. Maybe not the self-proclaimed "world's best" but they are very good. The egg omelets are good, but not great. Atmosphere is a little plain, and the service is always friendly.

The Broadway Diner is highway robbery. They made a mistake on my bill and refused to correct it... for $2! I spoke to the waiter, who got the manager. The manager Linda who is also an owner was worse than useless, she was outright disrespectful to me and kept pointing at the menu like I was some sort of idiot. Over $2 and the way that I was treated, I will never eat at this dump again. I miss the old management when it was greek owned, those were the days. Linda, I hope you read this, you are no restaurant manager! Expect my complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

What was expected to be a nice low-key night out turned into by far one of the most appalling and horrendous dining experiences of my life. Service was beyond terrible - slow and rude. I do not believe I have ever been treated with such disrespect by a waitstaff before. Not only did we sit for a solid twenty minutes before being acknowledged, the waitress failed to deliver us waters for the table upon our request and essentially threw a plate on the table at me. Her attitude was overwhelmingly bitter and unwelcoming throughout the night. This alone was enough to ensure I would never again step foot in this diner. The food, too, was incredibly underwhelming. The fried calamari failed to resemble calamari and at best tasted like cardboard. We asked to have the dish returned and was confronted by the manager claiming that the dish was fresh made and he could not understand what we were dissatisfied about. Ultimately, he took the dish back. To cap off an already poor experience, I ended up in a shouting match with the so-called manager about an unfair $2.95 minimum fee charged per head, despite our bill having averaged to be well over that per person. When I asked to indicate where this "policy" was made known to diners, the manager refused to do so. This fee, according to the manager, was to pay for the basic services we received (does he mean the nasty attitude from the waitress and the glasses of water we never received? Not too sure about this one...). Later in this heated conversation, I was insulted to my face as the man violently pointed his finger at my face and proclaimed my friends and I were wasting space in his restaurant. He continued to threaten to call the police on me numerous times during this conversation, and then again when my friends and I were exited after paying our full bill - including the absurd fee that was being disputed. Clearly it was not enough for him to insult me while alone, but also to insult me in front of my friends. If you're looking for a nightmare of a dining experience, then you're in for a treat. For everyone else looking to enjoy a meal, you're best bet is to stay far, far away.

    (1)
  • Lori A.

If you're looking for terrible service, even worse food, a shouting match with the management, and want to be insulted this diner is for you. My friends and I went to this diner late at night, around 11 or so in hopes of a cup of coffee, some appetizers to share, and some good conversation. Instead, we got a waitress who took 20 minutes to acknowledge our existence and then another 10 minutes to show up to take our order. We ordered a couple appetizers to share and the waitress rudely asked us 4 times if we wanted anything else. She left to place the order and came back saying that there would be a 2.95 minimum charge per head since each of us didn't order our own meal. There was no sign or indication on the menu that this was the case, but we still went ahead and ordered another item. The waitress was beyond rude and when she brought us our food (which took forever as well) it was so terrible that we had to send one of the dishes back. The attitude we got from both the waitress and the manager was appalling. When we got the check, they took the one dish off the menu but instead charged us extra because apparently we didn't meet the "2.95 per head" unofficial criteria, even though we were on average spending significantly more than that. My friend went to speak to the manager and ended up having an argument which ended in the manager threatening to call the police if we didn't pay the added charge. How calling the police would solve anything, I couldn't tell you. After another 20 minutes of arguing we decided to give in and leave the exact amount on the bill--if they thought they would be getting a tip, they had to be delusional. We left the money at the table and proceeded to walk out, the manager then accused us of leaving without paying and yelled at us to go bring him the money from the table. Not only did they have horrible service and horrible food, but they insulted us as well. They didn't deserve even a dime of what we left them, and we could have and should have left without leaving them a penny. No business should be run like this. It is surprising to me that such a place still manages to have customers. I've never had a worse dining experience and would encourage everyone to think twice before setting foot in this establishment.

They may not be the worlds best pancakes but they make a mean bananas foster French toast. Serving size is very large, more than enough food to share.

    (3)
  • Nick G.

Average food and way over prices. $10 for a mimosa, $10 for a grilled cheese?!?...$100 bill plus tip for 4 mimosas, 1 Bloody mary, grilled chesse, burger, bacon and eggs. Save your money and go to a nice restaurant if you want good food and decent priced drinks. Never going to this place again. I feel ripped off.

  • Pasquale R.

How can you f*ck up diner food? I mean it's really not a difficult concept. This place ranks as one of the worst diners around (and in Jersey there a ton). Service is the saving grace but overall the food sucks! I ordered a burger wrap (think McSnack Wrap McDonald's). I asked for it to be medium. Came out nearly burnt with the cheese not even melted, how is that even possible. I was better off going to McDonald's where I would have enjoyed my meal even more! My friend had the buffalo chicken salad. The lettuce was rancid and the breaded chicken with Tabasco sauce. No dressing...WTF? I had the potato salad with my wrap and it was a big mistake. So many better places to go to. They are known for their World Famous Pancakes...what freaking world are they referring to...and I will never try them since I am never going back...

Came here because our car broke down on our return trip to New York back from Delaware River Tubing. This restaurant is nearby the car repair shop. Tired and hungry and this was the first restaurant after we picked up our car rental. There is a wall hanging, 'Life is short, eat dessert first'. Cute! Prime rib - 4 stars. Asked for rare and it came out perfect. It was juicy and sweet. Good value for $13. Fish and chip - 4 stars. Fish looked burnt on the outside but the meat was delicious. Came with waffle fries and the tartar sauce was good. $10 for 2 big pieces of fish. My usual, eggs with sausages - 3 stars. Eggs were a bit burnt on the bottom. Home fries were bland, forgot to add salt? Coffee was hot but not the best. I most likely will not visit this area and restaurant again. But if I live nearby, I will be back for their prime rib.

Solid diner. i speak from many years of diner experience. I'd say 3.5 stars. Pluses: Coffee and tea while you wait for a table. So great! On a Sunday morning, I totally expect a wait so this was a nice treat. Corn muffin - toasted - with butter - make this your breakfast appetizer. Go ahead. Pancakes were delicious (I'm not going to say world's best but they were good.) Bacon was good. OJ is OUTSTANDING. Freshly squeezed. Get it. Minus: Service. Yes, Sunday mornings are busy. I expect that. But I also expect an institution such as this can handle that crowd. French toast was very thin and sad. 2 pieces of toast, definitely not filling. Overall, good diner food. The waitress was nice even if she wasn't as attentive as I'd like.

delusions of mediocrity. but it seemed like an extra crowded moment when we went, so mind that when you read... service was extremely slow. after placing our orders, we probably waited about half an hour just to get our drinks. (just waters, juices, coffee) Another ~15 minutes after that we got the appetizers we ordered. wings and calamari. wings were eh. calamari was incredibly bland. server forgot to bring plates and napkins for these, but it was a busy day, so no biggie. ~10 minutes later, the food comes out. Most of it seemed like hit or miss. but the orders ranged from omelets, pancakes, breakfast sample, pasta, homemade lasagna. the breakfast items were good. not quite the best pancakes in the world as they advertise, but still good. though its hard to mess those up. ill give them the benefit of the doubt. it was after our mid-autumn snow storm. lots of power outages. many people eating out. probably more crowded than theyre used to. ill try it again if i get the chance.

It's a good diner, but nothing special. Its top selling point is the decor, it's an old railway car (or designed to look like an old railway car, at least). Its doors are open 24/7, including major holidays like Christmas.

    (3)
  • Bernie D.

If you're from the area the Broadway diner is a classic for a couple reasons. One, it's always open, always, christmas, new years, thanksgiving, whatever. It's always open. Two is overwhelming average at best, while the menu may have everything from bagels to lobster tail none of it is outstanding. They suggest they are world famous pancakes, but really they are just average. The service is lackluster and apathetic, but that's not unusual for any diner in the area. There's really only 3 times you should find yourself at this diner. One drunk at 3am, two not drunk at 3am with nothing else to do, three for breakfast if you've got no place else to go.

Opting not to spend a stupid amount of money on our hotel's brunch, we asked the concierge to recommend a destination for us. It shocks me that the Hilton Short Hillls directs its customers to this type of place, but hey, they serve eggs benedict and endless cups of coffee. That's about all I need to be happy while I am hung over on a Sunday morning. Yeah, I could have done without the screaming kids, but our waitress was sweet as pie and quick with all of our requests. We skipped the "world famous" pancakes (this could only have lead to disappointment-usually a self-imposed title like that means anything but) and went for the eggs benedict. Certainly nothing world famous here, but it hit the spot. The potatoes were really dry, but the eggs were perfectly poached. We left the Broadway Diner with full bellies... Just what we needed to brave the Sunday crowds at the Short Hills Mall.

This place used to have the best pancakes around but they've severely lost their touch. I went in there today and ordered a short stack of pancakes as well as a pastrami sandwich. The pancakes were completely falling part when I cut it up like crumbs.I had to scoop it up with my fork. For a place that's supposed to be famous for their pancakes I was really disappointed. Additionally, the pastrami sandwich was disgustingly tough and dry. I told the waitress that and she said "Oh yeah, that's how they make it, they put it on the grill rather than in a steamer." Didn't offer to get another one or fix it in anyway, basically just said that's how it is. She said a similar thing when I told her how the pancakes were. Really made me feel like she didn't care at all about how we regarded the food and had a pleasant visit. So I will not ever be coming back here, food is way sub par and the service was below average.

I would rather eat at a place called "salmonella" then eat here again. this is not based on 1 bad experience, I am a glutton for punishment and I have been at least 4-5 times. every time i go, i swear i will never go again, and yet i still do. The service is fucking HORRID. you get seated right away, then maybe someone takes your order, maybe not. Maybe you get a drink, or maybe you sit there thirsty. either way, you will wait 30 minutes for eggs and chicken fingers to come out. the food sucks, it is expensive, and the place is pretty dirty.

Ugh! Waste of time. Service is slow as can be. Food prices are high compared with what else is around town and the portions do not match the prices. I ordered corned beef hash & poached eggs (9.25) and my friend ordered a tuna melt (also 9.25) our kids also split a spag & meatballs (5.95). After waiting almost 30 minutes for our food, my friend's tuna melt looked like it had been sitting under the heat lamp for some time. The edges had browned and were beginning to crust. Her fries were cold and onion rings soggy. I ordered my hash and potatoes well done, and I got two poaced eggs well, well done. We were so hungry, we just ate the food. The kids were happy though and the portion decent I appreciate a server who at least makes an attempt when accomodating customers with small children. This place did not. I had to go to the front to ask for crayons, ask the server for table settings and the server never offered the dessert which comes with the kids meal. We paid our bill and were on our way. A half hour later my friend called, and told me she was sick. Not sure it was coincidence, but my bet would be the tuna was sour!

Can only comment on the breakfast....pancakes were quite good...typical Jersey diner...prices were fair for breakfast.

Stopped in for brunch but went for breakfast since they advertise themselves to have the Worlds Best Pancakes. Since we hit at 11am it wasn't crowded so we were seated right away. Waitress was new so she couldn't say what they were known for or recommend anything. I order the Country Sampler and a side of eggs. This gave me some French toast, waffle and two pancakes along with bacon and a sausage. The pancakes would rate up there with some of the best I have had. Large fluffy with a slightly crispy edge and good hearty flavor. The French toast was also very good. The waffle were large Belgian type and were good. The bacon was a bit of a disaster being limp and greasy I couldn't eat it. They were kind of beige The sausage link was good. My friend ordered the Ham Pancakes which reminded my of my childhood when my dad would slice hotdogs into our pancakes when there was no other meat. We loved them. He liked the pancakes but wouldn't order those again. They have a large menu, literally, it weighed 3 pounds easy. We would come back to this restaurant.

I can't say I've had bad experiences here but it isn't my first choice for a diner in the area. It's ok, but not the Summit diner.

The food is above expectations! Both Breakfast & Lunch. a bit pricey but it's the area... we always get seated fast. food comes out really quick. big portions. the place is nice inside, modern & clean. our waiter memorized the orders of 2 tables/ 8 people & didn't mess up a single thing. highly recommend.

Great diner with really good food. It's not fancy, but it is open 24 hours and run by really friendly people. If you have a hankering for pancakes or eggs at 2 am, this is your place.

***EDIT*** lost a star due to a stale bun on a burger, 16 ounces of ice cubes in a 20 ounce tumbler, and soggy onion rings. The huge pickle saved the day. This diner is a spin-off of the one in Bayonne (of the same name but actually located on Broadway, hence the name origin). It is definitely the sibling that got the larger share of the inheritance: updated decor and a fresh look with some obligatory kitsch throw in for atmosphere, maybe catering to the Summit location and its attendant culture. In any case, the food translates well across the 15 mile distance from its mothership. You get a hefty plate of food, bottomless cups of coffee, and that unique tableside manner intrinsic to NJ diners. I never leave hungry, but then again, I order two breakfasts at a time. -C

Unless you're a toked-up student from one of the local universities with a colossal case of the late-night munchies, just don't do it.

The broadway diner claims to have world famous pancakes. They are not. The food is decent diner food, the atmosphere is loud, run down and overrun with kids. I cant quite put my finger on it, but in all the times I went to Broadway Diner (for convenience) I never felt comfortable. Its not clean, but it doesn't have that worn down diner feel either, and I wouldnt dream of attempting anything past the basics here.

It's always nice to hear from the management team. I'm sure the products were fresh...right out of the frozen bag. Don't get me wrong frozen isn't horrible, just season it up. As far as an off day...I guess you are right, I went on December 26th, it was crowded. I would give it another try because their team cares about reviews!!!!

Broadway is your average east coast diner. The service was alright -- slow at times and they kept forgetting our water, but friendly and decent enough. The eggs were actually very well cooked. My omelette was great and my boyfriend's three over medium were cooked perfectly. The hash on the other hand, not good. The hash is made up of a mixture of smaller diced and julienned potatoes and was very unevenly cooked and pretty bland. My bacon was so-so, I wish it had been more crispy. The eggs were the saving grace here, but they need to step up their potato game!

We typically eat here a couple of times a week. In our opinion, it is the best diner in the area. Prices are good, food is typically very good. It is a diner, not a 5-star restaurant. You will certainly not leave hungry! Most of the waiter/waitresses are attentive. Good stuff!

The pancakes really are all they're cracked up to be. The service can be hit or miss, especially on a busy weekend morning / early afternoon. They're very child-friendly and have "Mickey Pancakes" which are always a hit. In the fall months, they have pumpkin pancakes that are to die for. Honestly I haven't tried much else on the menu, and we've been coming here for years. It's definitely our "go-to" for pancakes though. Parking can be a bit of a debacle, but we always find something. A nice touch is that they offer free, fresh, flavored coffee with free refills while you're waiting!

Usually I am pretty lenient with diner foods & service but this has been one of the worst diner experiences. The service was pretty awful and our waitress seemed very unhappy to be there. I ordered a tuna sandwich (I am a pescetarian and do not eat any meat, other than seafood) and shortly after taking a bite and spitting it out because I realized it was chicken, I had my friends confirm that it was indeed chicken. When our waitress came back and we told her what happened, instead of apologizing and taking it back, she gave us the stink eye and just said "no, this is tuna..." She came back from the kitchen after a while with an actual tuna sandwich and never apologized or admitted that they were wrong... Everyone's food was decent-ish, except the "honey mustard" was suspicious smelling and watery looking. To end it (this did not particularly bother us, it just seemed unprofessional), the person at the register did not say a word to us or ask how things were etc, which was also uncalled for for a diner. Was going to give 2 stars instead, but I simply cannot.

So I've driven past this diner for over a year now and I knew that someday I would just have to come in and experience the claimed "World's Best Pancakes". I had been putting it off for a while, but I finally caved and stopped in a week ago and I have to say, they were some of the worst pancakes I've ever had. I tried the cinnamon pancakes with some coffee and while the pancakes were hot and came out quickly, that doesn't offset the fact that they were undercooked and still a little batter-y for my taste. They also tasted like cardboard and I haven't figured out how that can be, even after being drenched with butter and syrup. The coffee, not wanting to be left out, was very bland and tasteless even after multiple creamers and sugar (and this is a guy who's used to drinking Folgers at work). The service was fine, but that doesn't make up for terrible food. I would not recommend this place to anyone and there are much better diners in the area. World's Best Pancakes? Methinks not.

My favorite diner in the area! Very cute inside and extremely clean. They have a big menu yet I always seem to get the buffalo chicken salad which is tasty. Lots of cheese and the chicken is good, too. They give big portions and their soda comes in cute glass bottles. They also have wine and beer for a very cheap price. I've never gotten alcohol here so can't comment on quality but thought I'd mention it :) My favorite thing about this place is that they give you a carafe of coffee for the table when you order. No waiting for a refill :). The coffee is good, although I prefer their milkshakes ;)

I was a little concerned about coming to this diner after the reviews I had read, but I'm glad I decided to visit anyway. I had been craving a cheeseburger deluxe during my break from work and figured I would order it from here. While my experience at this diner was solely picking up, it was truly great. The hostess was very friendly and they had my food ready quite quickly. The burger and fries were very good. I don't know if people that have left reviews expect a 5 star restaurant dining experience or what, because this cheeseburger was great for being a diner burger. Really no concerns at all, overall great.

I can't believe I willingly went to a 2.5 star restaurant. Desperate times called for desperate measures and because it was already pretty late, Broadway Diner was one of the only options. We got an order to go to bring back to our hotel. As expected and honestly why I think diner's ultimately don't serve the best food, you could order literally anything. The menu was 12 pages, full of your favorite breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. I opted for a basic pesto chicken panini, which comes with fries AND onion rings! It took about 15 minutes for them to prepare everything, and we were on our way. My sandwich honestly wasn't as bad as I originally thought. The flavors were tolerable, although it was a huge mess to eat. The pesto oil got all over the sandwich and my hands, and the filling kept spilling out over the sides. Napkins were futile, and I accepted the fact my hands were out of commission for the remainder of the meal. The fries were also just meh. The onion rings were too soggy and soft that I didn't bother eating the breading after the first one. My experience wasn't that awful, but it stinks there aren't as many late night options in the area. Good luck to all you future diners!

A-OK. I'd go Summit Diner over Broadway, but since Summit Diner is always mobbed if you catch it at a bad time, Broadway isn't a bad local alternative. Came here for a brunch with my wife one morning, and we got lunch orders since it was later in the am. The service was actually really good - the waitress was really friendly and amicable. The food itself also wasn't bad (Chicken Caesar Wrap for myself), but it wasn't the best. It's just average as far as I'm concerned. Don't get me wrong - a 3/5 means I'd still come here when in need of a diner breakfast in town, but it wouldn't be a go-to. Summit Diner still holds the crown.

I used to LOVE Broadway Diner, but today was an eye opener for me. I've never had as bad of an experience at any other diner. I ordered a ham and cheese omelette and what I received was a runny, undercooked egg blanket minus the cheese. I'm talking undercooked beyond belief, not my right order, awkward egg sheet with ham tossed in it. They were super busy, and all the staff members were friendly other than our waiter, who we couldn't even flag down to let him know my order was wrong and gross. He dropped off our food and disappeared. We'll stick to Brookside diner from now on.

I unfortunately had the absolutely worst burger ever...... Would have liked to have given a better review to a local business but both friend and I agreed the greasiest burgers ever ....bad grease, not the delicious kind. Had pancakes one time but they were raw... sh

The service was Superbad - the capitalization and spelling you will soon understand. When first seated, I noticed an abundance of spots on my silverware - not a good start. But they were replaced, so that was all good. There weren't many fellow diners, and the food came out a bit slow on that basis. Now here is where the story truly begins. Almost immediately after a runner brought our food, the server - whom I'll refer to hereafter as McLovin - asked how things were. Of course we hadn't had an opportunity to find out yet, and told him so. Right across the booth from me is one of those ubiquitous diner mirrors, this one giving a clear view of the beverage station behind me. And there leans McLovin, being positively McLovinly. A few minutes later, I'm out of coffee, and look up - he has vanished. So five minutes later he finally reappears, I summon him, and get a java refill. So far so mediocre. Then a few servers seat themselves in a booth just across the dining room. Cool, whatever, it's not that busy, why not take advantage and have a meal. Twenty minutes probably go by, as we are having a really awesome conversation at my table, when all of a sudden I realize: McLovin has vanished! It's a good fifteen minutes later that I notice, huddled in the booth of servers, was the one who actually had a table on which to wait: our own McLovin. While I was relieved that Seth Rogen and Bill Hader hadn't taken him on patrol, it was disappointing that he couldn't give us a little courtesy of checking on our table. So once I finally get his attention and ask for the check - expressing my relief that he had not, as I'd feared, vanished or taken ill - he immediately placed it on the table. McLovin had been sitting there all this time, oblivious in his McLovinverse, attentive enough to have a check but not motivated enough to deliver it or otherwise communicate with guests. The kicker: the last time the two of us dined here, guess who our semi-present server was? Yep. McLovin. And somehow this was a step down in his interactions. I tried to express my dissatisfaction while paying the check at the register, but got only an awkward smile, no eye contact, no thank you, no come again, anything. So in recap, this sequel to Superbad gets two emphatic, and unacknowledged, thumbs down. This review says to skip The McLovining.

I only come here after going to the climbing gym. The waiter tonight was super chill and nice. He tried to give me a to go on my omelette but I destroyed it much to his surprise. They claim to have the "worlds best pancakes" on their sign but my dood Joey said they it should instead say "you can get pancakes here". The corn beef hash omelette was on point though. I will keep coming here after climbing. It's a solid NJ diner but noting to go mental over.

Mediocre food with BAD service. The last 2 times have not been a good experience. Once was in the evening during the week with the place empty. The waitress took a very long time to wait on us. What looked to be the owner, tall man, saw the concerned look on my face and yelled out for the waitress. She ignored him but did finally come back. Turkey club fresh tasting, corn beef sandwich dry. The last time we were there was for breakfast, the place empty because it was early. The owner directed us to our booth and threw the menus out on the table - who does that? The waitress was at a booth next to us on her cell phone. She finally ended the call to wait in us. The eggs, fries were cold and bacon extremely burnt and greasy. Hoping to find another local diner to replace this one.

We work and live nearby and used to go to the Broadway Diner in Summit, N.J. all of the time. My three friends and I ate there on a hot 100+ degree day about five years ago. We ordered Iced Teas and asked for refills. When the bill came we were charged $40 for Iced Teas! We complained and the manager just gave us a dumb look. I haven't been back there until today. The menu on their website says that a chef salad costs $9.75. I was charged $13.75. I didn't ask for any extras. Again I asked about pricing, again I got a dumb look. The salad was good (even though they said swiss cheese and gave me white velveeta), but I refuse to eat in a place that does not have integrity. Maybe I'll try it again in another five years.

I have a very different experience. This place is by far the best diner I have EVER eaten at...and I was raised in Nj...What is best IMHO? Open Late. Hearty Portions. Fresh Food. Moderate wait times for meals. Customizable accommodation..eg: able to sub one thing for another to custom Taylor the dish or salad to your liking. FRIENDLY staff...No rushing my meal to hurry me up so I can relax and have a conversation. Even diabetic accommodations.... I wonder if I have gotten so old that the concept of " what a diner is" is still expected to be like it once was. The term Old School means " Good Nosh"

We ordered tomato barley soup which was good. I had a salad and my friend had chicken in a basket. The service was inadequate and the waitress was bossy and loud. The owner was also rude and threw the menus on the table and walked away. My friend actually got sick pretty quick from the chicken in a basket, about 15 minutes after we left, and actually threw up. Just so you know, that's pretty fast for someone to get sick from the food. It had to be either really bad chicken or the oil it was fried in hasn't been cleaned in a while. My friend does not have a weak stomach. She usually eats very spicy foods. We definitely are staying far, far away from this one. Where's the Health Department when you need them?

If you eat here, you must buy some of the cookies sold at the counter. And they certainly have some great pancakes. I remember last time I went they had pumpkin pancakes too! Also, I recommend this turkey dinner they had in the winter which came with stuffing. Banging! Also, their milk shake is one of the better ones I have had for sure. However, I just think other things they make are less amazing like their burger. I honestly don't know if I would give any other diner a higher rating though...just to be fair haha.

We were quite happy to find a good diner in the beginning. However, we just returned home after our second in a row bad experience. Last month, my order came out wrong and I sent back. Took about 30 minutes to fix it. Today, my toast was not delivered with eggs (I only eat eggs with toast) and after waiting 5 minutes and not receiving I got up to ask server. Also mentioned the underdone home fries. She took my entire plate and after my husband was finished eating his meal and another 5 minutes, mine was received. No apology from the manager. Another diner crossed off our list. There are better in the area, not by much, but still better.
