This is one of the worst restaurants I've ever eaten at in Ridgewood. The service was bad but the food was worse. The first red flag was that the napkins are not cloth napkins but DISH TOWELS! I don't know how you're going to set the "high end" tone of your restaurant with dish towels as napkins especially when the bread comes rested on an actual cloth napkin. There was no salt or pepper on the table either. The overly bland food definitely required salt and pepper. Our waitress knew the specials very well but did not know the actual menu. I asked for the pan fried veal and she asked me which one I wanted. There is only one pan fried veal listed on the menu. Instead of pouring us glasses of water, she nonchalantly dropped the bottle of water on our table and walked away. After a very long wait, when I got the veal, it was most definitely not pan fried but deep fried. It was quite disgusting. I ate the arugula and left most of the veal. The veal that I did eat, I had to peel off the thick, deep fried coating first. I did not complain to the waitress because neither of the two wait staff stayed in the dining room long enough all night long. They kept disappearing for long periods of time. Getting the check was another wait along with actually getting them to take my credit card. When she took my card, she asked me how we wanted to split the check...we only gave her ONE credit card...not sure how you would split the check. I guess she could run it through the machine three times at one third of the total each time. The only good thing about this place was the bus boy. He was the only one that seemed to be working constantly throughout the night. He was the one who brought us salt and pepper, more water, and cleared our table. Frankly, I'm surprised. There are a lot of good restaurants in Ridgewood at better price points. I assumed any new restaurant opening in this area would have top notch service and food (or at least top notch food to make up for the lackluster service). I will be very surprised if the restaurant continues operating at this level (service and food) and makes it through its one year anniversary. Don't waste your time or money here when there are way better restaurants to eat at in the area. I left feeling like I could get better quality food and service for my money at a fast food chain.

Quaint & charming! Oh, and the food was remarkably delicious, certainly made to order with the freshest ingredients and TONS of flavor! I love the "truly Italian" dishrag napkins... adds authentic flare that's rare to find!!! A truly wonderful experience if your taste buds want something other than ordinary. Come to DUE for extraordinary deliciousness!!!

Well, not sure how to describe. The appetizers were ok but took forever to arrive. Pasta mains were good but heavily salted. But the dessert of vanilla creme brûlée was an utter disappointment that was literally taken out of the fridge and served to us. No torch to the top, nothing special at all. And unfortunately just kind of sums up the experience. Not really worth the effort.

Best thing goes first: My hanger steak was cooked perfectly rare and very delicious. The sides (potatoes and greens) were also very well prepared and complimented the steak nicely. I would order this again. The space is another highlight, nicely laid out and well decorated. It is clear a lot of time and $$$ went into the decor. I found the bar and lighting fixtures to be especially nice, and the outdoor seating option is a plus. Pretty much everything else needs some work, particularly the service. There did not seem to be any single person directing the dining room or staff, and it showed in the chaotic, surly, and haphazard service we received. Only one menu for 2 people, no introductions, no offers to open our booze, no water or bread provided, no specials read, no introductions, no caveats about it the place just opening, and no apologies. Also, our table was rocking like a see saw and the wait staffs' solution was to remove the table and bring in a new one. The guy who attempted to help was very well intentioned, and I appreciate his efforts, but somebody on staff should be able to fix a wobbly table in under 15 minutes (preferably before the guests arrive to sit...we did have a reservation). We were asked to sit at the bar and wait for our table to be prepared, and the bar we sat...very thirsty...because nobody offered to open our wine or bring a glass of water. Maybe we would have purchased a bottle of Pelligrino as we sat and waited...we got the offer. I mentioned the steak was great, but the other food we ordered had some significant issues: Appetizers: - Polpo: the menu says "polpo" and "grilled octopus"...what you get is a tiny portion of flavorless BABY octopus over bean salad, for $16. the baby octopus was completely tasteless and way over cooked. the bean salad was also flavorless and was cold, as if it were a leftover deli salad pulled from the fridge 2 days later and dumped on a plate. the warm octopus/cold salad did not work at all for me, if that was the intent. i really love octopus, and baby octopus, but in all honesty this was the most disappointing dish that i have been served at a real restaurant in recent memory. - Figs: the figs had a nice flavor, but a more accurate description for the menu would be "bacon stuffed with fig"...the figs were comparatively tiny next to the giant, full slices of bacon that enveloped them. It sounds crazy to say this, but there was WAY too much bacon on that plate; and the bacon was not really crispy, as the menu indicated it would be. The fig should be the star of this dish, but it was lost in a shroud of pork. Not a bad dish, but definitely misleading when compared to the menu description (a definite trend considering that the same was true of he Polpo). Entrees: - Hanger steak was the undisputed highlight. Order this! - Bolognese pasta: this was good, but again, the menu was misleading. Menu says "wood grilled pork, red sauce". What my wife got on her plate looked and tasted like a vodka or pink sauce...it was not the red sauce one would expect to see in a typical bolognese dish. Putting a spin on a classic is always welcomed, but make sure that people know what they are ordering. Needless to say, we did not stick around to try dessert. My wife and I REALLY wanted to love this place. The idea is there, the space is great, but the current food and service problems make it very difficult to say i would go back and spend another $100. I hope that the owner and head chef reads this review and takes it as constructive criticism. I am not out to be mean or insulting, and i know how difficult it is to open a new place. We want you to succeed! We need real Italian food in Bergen County! We want to come back for a great meal!! You have all the makings of the best Italian place in town...just need to work out a few key kinks.

My Husband and I went to Due Wednesday Night. My server was outstanding . Due is a BYOB, and we forgot to bring wine with us. I had on very high heels, and my server was kind enough to show me how close the liquor store was. The food was also outstanding . I had a Groupon, but we also ordered additional food. We stated with the Fried Artichoke and Calamari, The Mussel Appetizer, and the Cheese and meat platter for 2. One Appetizer was better than the next. The Mussels Were Small and Sweet. They were so delicious and the broth that they came in I wanted to eat with a spoon. Fortunately I had bread to dip into it, and left nothing in the plate. The Calamari and Fried Artichoke came in a White Sauce which was another empty dish on our table. The cheese and meat platter had an assortment of Italian Delicacies, and it came with a tasting of Blue Cheese, Goat Cheese, and Ricotta Salata Yum. The only thing I would have liked in addition was something sweet on the platter like Honey. We shared a Wonderful Salad of Baby Mixed Greens with Pistachios. It was Great My husband had the Salmon over Orzo, and I had the Shrimp with Mussels and Clams. Which were both Excellent. I can't speak for anyone else, but I think that DUE was an excellent find, and I can't wait to go back. I honestly don't understand! the bad reviews, however maybe they came from some customers that aren't experienced in fine dining, and where expecting the Olive Garden where your food falls off you plate.

Due is one of the best restaurant in Ridgewood NJ The food and service are awesome and one of the best location in Ridgewood. Usually I don't have time to go out for dinner as I'm a restaurant owner and a chief in Ridgewood but after I heard a lot of good things about Due restaurant and the owner from my customers I decided to give it a try and yes it's one of the best food I've ever had and I'm very glad I did dine there so please avoid heaters and I wish this restaurant the best

A relatively small, eclectic and unusual menu here, so be sure to check it before visiting, lest any in your party wonder why an Italian restaurant has no pastas or veal. Two of their bold signature dishes were liked much more by our friends than us--the shrimp and polenta and the calamari misto. We liked the summer salad and pork chop, our friends also liked the pork saltimobbo, zeppoles, octopus and flat bread. Excellent service; nice atmosphere; many outdoor tables. BYO is a big plus with entrees around $30.

Last night I had the perfect meal! Who would ever suspect that this small, quaint resturant could have such an extensive menu that would satisfy the fussiest of eaters--me! If you eat there try anything! The meals we had, the chippino, the soft shell crabs, the calamari with artichokes, mushroom soup, and the BEST dessert ever - key lime - almost like a souffle....were all fabulous. The staff is very effecient and DUE is my new favorite! Great job Chef Adam Weiss!

I had wanted to try this restaurant for a long time. My wife, who is essentially a vegan, tried it and didn't want to go back. I finally convinced her to give it another shot when her mother was in town and the wait at Sant'Egidio was too long. We only had to wait five minutes for the booth in the back to open up, and the hostess was very nice. I read that they recently brought in the old chef from Esty Street, and our waitress confirmed it. I also read the review in The Record which said that they did pork dishes well and my mother in law tried the pork chop special. She thought it was a little dry; I enjoyed the big bite I had. I opted for the shrimp and grits dish which was excellent. I really enjoyed my starter, a soup that was a special that night, I believe. Beware though that this place is really pricey. The octopus/pulpo appetizer my wife tried was very good but $17. Many entrees were $30 to $32 so the bill got up there. Overall I liked it but I don't think I will be running back given the hefty check. It is not as good as Cravings and is not better than Memoire, another of my favorites in town, but it is not just a 3 star place, either.

Small place in a town with dozens of restaurants. And it's OK. The menu us limited but has mostly interesting choices. We shared the ravioli of the day, which was a very good meat and cheese filled offering with a typical red sauce. it was very good, and I probably could have made it my entrée. I opted for the pappardelle pasta with pork shoulder ragu. The pasta was al dente and the sauce could have more pork, but it was a very tasty meal. My bride had the steak and she was OK with it, but probably would try something else next time. Son in law is picky, so daughter called and asked if he could have chicken parm. It was no problem they said, made it special for him, and he inhaled it as the best he has had in some time. Daughter had the steak also, and liked that is was served exactly as ordered. No dessert this time, but we will have it next time. BYOB is the way to go, thank you very much.

This place was wonderful. We started with the crab cake salad and portobello mushrooms. Great presentation. The crab cakes were meaty severed with a nice salad with avocado. The portobello served with fresh mozzarella cheese and a delicious tomato sauces excellent! We continued with the entrees of shrimp with grits. Lovely presentation and the grits were creamy and flavorful. Next was the pork chop served with strawberry rubard. OMG! ! Just smell it and you are engulfed with the flavor before it enters you mouth. Desert was zeppiless stuff with ricotta and served with the amazing strawberry and rubard sauce and warmed chocolate. Delicious combo. The service was outstanding. A must to go to in ridgewood! !!

Had an amazing dinner at Due on Friday night!!! Our server was fantastic and extremely knowledgeable on all of the dishes. His recommendations were spot on. Thanks Corey for making the experience fantastic. For appetizers I had the gazpacho. The nice smoky flavor to this dish was unexpected and definitely well received. Will definitely have to try the grilled octopus next time we swing by for dinner. Dinner was fabulous. The steak with parmesan frites was beautifully flavored, and the fettuccine verde with those delicious mussels and scallops was great! Both were a large portion of food, and I couldn't finish my main course. I purposely stopped myself because if the food has been this good so far, dessert was for sure going to need to be eaten. And I was not disappointed at all. We ordered the zeppoles and I have never been so happy with a dessert choice. These are not your everyday zeppoles that you think of from a carnival. These were so light and beautiful. On the outside a nice brown sugar and cinnamon, on the inside flowing warm housemade ricotta. You couldn't even lift them with a fork because they were so delicate that it fell apart. And served on the side with a nice ganache and also strawberry-rhubarb sauce. Absolute heaven!!!! I'm not one to write a ton of reviews but this one truly deserved everyone knowing that the food was incredible and the service even better! We will definitely be going back to try different things on the menu.

Disappointing. The butternut squash agnolotti had very good flavors but the pasta was too thick. The bucatini with turkey meatballs was okay but certainly lacking flavor. I brought some home and added a bunch of Romano cheese and parsley and it was much better. My wife's salmon was good, but again, lacked enough flavor. Service was great. Room was fairly noisy but not too bad.

We heard about the new chef so wandered in last night (Friday) for dinner and was able to get a table. It was pass 8:30 pm. Service was a little slow but it was a good experience. Our dinner included the misto calamari, grilled octopus and Atlantic Salmon. All were presented well, tasted good. One big complain was that the grilled octopus had only 4 pieces of cut octopus. I don't care where you dine but for $17 that is a very pricy appetizer. Another gripe, plate share cost. That's an insult.

Can't review the food because they screwed up earlier in process. They apparently are foreign to the concept of taking and keeping reservations so we now have a party of 6 enjoying a nice evening down the street at Natalie's. Add us to the list of disappointed folks who will not make another attempt at eating here.

I stopped by here on Sunday night and they had just did some menu changes as they do sometimes. Great food! We had the crab cake appetizer which was awesome. The flavor they add to there food is always great! I just had to list that as we loved it. They also has some chicken appetizer which was awesome as well! LOve this food here always good!!

First time here since new chef and what a difference. There is some Italian influence, but I would call this Continental meets New American. The service was attentive. The Arctic Char and rib-eye steak were cooked to perfection and very delicious. Nice unpretentious atmosphere. Small and intimate.

Amazing meal! This was my first time at Due, and it will certainly NOT be my last. The service was impeccable, and the food was outstanding. I started with the corn soup which was one of the daily specials. That was delicious. My friend had the gnocci with brown butter and sage. That was easily the best gnocci I have ever tasted. My pasta with crab and mushrooms was also amazing. I will definitely be back with more of my friends and family. A wonderful addition to Ridgewood's already impressive array of restaurants.

This is our second dinner at Due & we enjoyed it very much. The staff is enthusiastic & chef Adam is very creative. My dinner was perfect, from the calamari appetizer to the Arctic char. There was nothing I would have added to my dinner. My husband had a Saltimbocca pork chop that he said was lost in all the cheese on top. He ordered the special french fries but didn't get a chance to eat them because the bus boy was in a rush to clear the table & didn't ask if he was finished. That was disappointing. We will go back again.

I always try to be positive and give constructive advice when I write a review. So here goes. First of all the staff at Due were friendly and efficient. Our waitress had good recommendations and really made us feel welcomed. We ordered the Bucatini with Sunday Sauce with Turkey Meatballs. The fresh pasta and sauce were second to none, but the Turkey meatballs were flavorless. A great meatball is enough reason to frequent a restaurant, don't mess with a winning formula. The rest of the menu seemed interesting, but almost all of the dishes seemed to be trying to include too many additional ingredients. My Steak Pizzaiola, was good but again too busy. The Parmesan fries didn't need to be there especially since they had hardly any flavor to them. I truly believe that with a little tweaking, that Due can be a real winner, but after our first visit, the jury was still out, to see if we would return.

Waited for about ten minutes at our table before anyone even acknowledged us. Then, waiter totally forgot about bringing bread even though we asked for it. Waitress was really good but the food was just ok. Fish was a bit bland and the grits part of the shrimp and grits dish was overlooked. Not heading back Anytime soon

Wow... How could everything be so utterly wrong. from the mushyiest figs with burned bacon and a smattering of blue cheese to a salmon that was so fishy smelling, I returned it...service was inexcusible. I always look for the best in places, and am trying to think of one redeemable quality for this place, but I come up with a blank.

We've been here a few times and each time the food and service have been just great.... and I think a review is due (haha). For appetizers, we had the wild mushroom soup, which had me repeating "mmmm so goood..." after every taste. We also had the grilled flatbread, which also was amazing. For our entrees we had the branzino and the pork chop, the branzino was really tasty and cooked just perfectly in a tomato based sauce on some kind of grain and white beans. It was delicious and healthy and what I loved most about it was that it wasn't overly seasoned yet it was full of flavor. The pork chop was very juicy and tender and I was almost able to cut it with my fork. This wasn't quite so healthy as it was breaded and fried but I guess that was what made it so juicy. The average entree price is over $30 but the portions are quite substantial. Why am I not giving it 5-stars.... i don't really know....it could be the ambiance or the lack of one.... we sat outside on the sidewalk which is not dressed up at all (ie. no defined area, flower boxes or canopy, etc.) There was a public bench right across from us (sidewalk distance) and we had different members of the public sit there during the course of our dinner "watching" us and at one point, a couple sat there eating their take-out from Whole Foods. Maybe my review would be different if we had dined inside but we haven't dined inside in a while so it would be difficult to state with any certainty. Overall... the food is on the pricey side but well worth it ... but if you want more of a fine-dining experience, do not sit outside.

I would like to attribute some of the uneven quality to opening weekend quirks. I do hope they step up to live up to their potential given the chef's reputation and the impressive menu. Our criticism relates to the execution of the enticing menu options. In general the quality doesn't quite yet live up to the price point. The flavor, spicing and presentation need to be improved to really impress the crowd in a highly competitive dining market. There are some really good restaurants locally at competitive prices such as cafe amici in ho ho kus and ridgewood has lots of high end dining options. I do really wish them well as an excellent authentic Italian restaurant is always a great option to have, and I will visit them again with an open mind soon. Ps. It was incredibly loud when full. Maybe some wall hangings are needed to absorb the sound.

My husband and I received a gift card for Due last year. We never used it do to the terrible reviews- Last night on a whim he said let's get rid of this. OMG- IT WAS SO GOOD. He had steak, I had shrimp and grits, both were delicious. The hostess/server (it was a Wednesday night and the place is small) was on top of everything. Friendly and attentive. Nothing but wonderful things to say about this restaurant with it's new team

  • Shari S.

The first appetizer we ordered was the grilled Octopus. I only hope we all don't get sick. It was fishy tasting and very mushy not fresh. The mussels also tasted off. The risotto was overly salty and their so called signature pork chop was tasty but the whole dish was an unappetizing color brown. Brown sauce, black sweet potatoes and black brussel sprouts, all burnt. Do not waste 28 dollars. The service was horrible , cheese was not offered after the pasta was served. We had to ask for steak knives twice. I am shocked this restaurant is still in business, it is that bad. We will not return.

Yet another BYOB in Ridgewood. I loved the mussels to start and the meat to finish. Pork chops were some of the most flavorful I've ever had. Sauces were nicely prepared. Friends enjoyed the pasta dishes and said it was well cooked. Good portions so I will go back. Unfortunately, a friend did not have as delightful an experience.

    (3)
  • Thomas P.

As others have noted the food took a long time to start arriving and then arrived at too brisk a pace. The service was cordial but uneven. The portions were small considering the price but very tasty. The mussels were good. The chicken and skirt steak were cooked well and flavorful. We will go back to see if they are on an upward curve as they gain experience. We're not comfortable bringing friends yet but look forward to better experiences in the future.

Gabriela's review below was obviously planted by Due themselves. No first time diner has that much oddly extended background knowledge on a restaurant's inner-workings and detailed menu options, unless, perhaps they serve as a critic and were recording detailed annotations of the menu options. Stop planting reviews for your own restaurant..it is incredibly obvious. Regarding my review, I walked into your dining establishment with three other people for lunch. No one was there. The door was open and the lunch menu posted and we hollered "Hello!" with no answer. We left and you lost our business. Please note the town is competitive and every client counts.

I went there a few months ago and was blown away by the quality and wonderful tastes of each meal. I went back with a group of girl friends and was so very disappointed. We eat out a lot and I would not return here. In fact, it was my idea to come back here and I felt I had to apologize to my friends. It was awful. Sorry, but maybe these reviews will help get you back on track. Mussels appetizer was wonderful, but that was all that was noteworthy.

My first trip to Due, absolutely great experience. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Great food to match. Not too often do you order a pasta dish that was made with fresh pasta. It was a refreshing change from the average Italian fare you find in most of Bergen County. Definitely worth a try! The only problem we had was deciding what dish to order.

This is a great place to eat. The food is terrific, well prepared and wonderful presentation and just delicious. The portions are perfect so you are not leaving feeling over stuffed. The staff is wonderful, very accommodating, thoughtful and most helpful. My husband had the pork chop and it was done to perfection. I had the crab and loved it. The goat cheese and beet salad was perfect. We will be back for sure and will recommend it to our friends. Thanks for a fine meal.

Dined here two Friday nights ago. Wanted to sit inside but somehow inside of the restaurant was hotter than it was outside (it was a warm evening). So we started out inside. Pulled my chair out and found food, crumbs, and paper from previous diners. Indoor space is lacking ambiance. Waitress quickly ran over at my request and swept it up. Then, due to the heat and lack of atomosphere, (I don't think they had AC on), we moved outdoors. Food was expensive and just ok. We frequently dine in Ridgewood and I think there are much better options for the price. Glad we tried it, but wasn't overly impressed, especially with the indoor space. It is really lacking. Sitting outside is what made the evening (a local street guitarist was playing near the restaurant at the time and it made for a nice vibe). I would have really been disappointed if it was winter and we had to stay inside, it needs more of "something" to make it worth the price. Small restaurants in RWD like Cafe 37 or Novo do a better job with service and atmosphere to make you feel like it is a night out. Food was ok, service and atmosphere not so great.

Who ever reviewed this restaurant as "The closest thing to dining in Italy" either must be a friend of the owner or has no taste buds at all. I went there with a group of 10. Horrible. They just don't have their act together.

Over-due ......that is the general sense of my review. We got the groupon to try this place out....we typically do that for places that we have not tried yet in town to hedge our bets. Thank god we did and we only list 35 bucks vs the 65-70 the other poor unfortunate souls lost that night who paid full price. I always say you can tell a lot about a place based on their appetizer and this one slightly tricked us.... After 45 min wait we finally got our appetizer.... It was our anniversary dinner and we got the Octopus and Calamari. The octopus was rubbery but the calamari despite being overly dressed was actually not bad. So we were not sure how the main dishes were going to workout......another 60 minutes later we get our nudi and pork chop. My husbands nudi was in a broth that I swear tasted like dishwater ..he almost gagged. Visually unappealing and unfortunately also very bad tasting. I on the other hand felt lucky , the pork chop I had looks a bit better so I dug in.....it was like leather...completely dry and overcooked with no seasoning ...there was also this odd brown broth on it that tasted like the same water that was on the nudi. After 1 bite each we both knew that this meal was about to ruin our rare night out...we quickly got the waitress and tapped out ASAP. We asked to get the check so we could try to get into another place before it was too late by this point it was 9:30.....the waitress then came over and told us to try back mid week when they are not busy because weekends are the worst for food???!!! She told us to keep the groupon but we basically already told her to keep it or refund it...even with a free meal I am not going back to this place.....in my mind this place is over due for a major change.

The so-called classic Caesar salad does not come with anchiovies. We had to ask for anchiovies and the waitress bought out a very small amount to be shared by us. We asked for more, and who knew they would charge extra $3 for it? Again, it was a small amount . The anchiovies should be omitted only if the customer requests not to have it. Anyone knows a classic Caesar salad includes anchiovies. The salad also lacked the flavor of parmesan cheese. The croutons were hard as a rock, I was afraid to break my teeth. We had to wait over 45 minutes for our entrees. My husband ordered the pork chop (medium cooked) and even though it was half raw when he first received it, it was cooked to perfection when it was returned. I had the short ribs which were delicious and very tender. The manager/or owner came over and apologized for the long wait for our entrees and offered dessert free of charge which was nice, but we opted for espresso instead. The noise level was horrendous even though we were seated in the back. Would we go back - yes, defintely, in the summer, and sit outdoors!!!!! Hope they improve their Caesar salad!! We may be reluctant to order it again.

It was okay. With all the restaurants in Bergen county I would probably not go back to Due. Unlike other reviewers, I felt the wait service was great! The food to me was not great. I had the grilled octopus for an app. It didn't even come near vardkas. Had the grouper special only because nothing on the menu jumped out at me. It was good. Just good. The coffee was great! Won't go back.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
