Their food is really good. I have been going to this restaurant for a few years. Their pad Thai and Basil fried rice are amazing. On my last visit, we ordered the following . Appetizer: vegetarian Thai Spring Rolls- this was ok. Vegetable Tom Kha Soup- this was too bland for me but my mom liked it Main Entree: Pineapple fried Rice(spicy) this was good Vegetarian Mango Curry(spicy)- this was amazing. The sweetness of the mango in the creamy spicy curry was out of this world. This is a must try on the menu. Dessert: We ordered Creme Brûlée. In the last, I really enjoyed this, but this time the texture was really weird. Drink: Thai iced tea- good as always

Great for lunch. Went with my mom. Food came out fast which is great when you're on lunch and don't have a lot of time. We started with Thai rolls for appetizer. 6 small rolls. Yum! We couldn't stop eating them. They came with a sweet orange sauce. She had pad Thai and thought it was a bit bland. I tasted it and thought so too; it just seemed that one ingredient might have been missing in the dish to give it umph. I had the ginger and scallion chicken with jasmine rice which was excellent. Portions were HUGE for lunch. We both ate half and have leftover lunch for tomorrow. Very good food, prices, local run family atmosphere. These people work hard and it shows. Agree with other posts about the decor, but that's a secondary need for me. First is food and service so I give this place 4 stars.

On a business trip, needed something to eat back at the Embassy Suites. Thees guys were open with nobody inside. Sounded like they were running take-out. I got pad see you, and they did a great job with it. At the chicken satay for breakfast. Great tasting food.

Best thai food in this area! Green curry is amazing. We usually do "to go" at least once a week.

Not an authentic place for Thai food.. Expensive but not at all worth..!!!! Ambience is below average.. I wouldn't recommend this place at all.

Not a bad meal, but plenty of other options. I won't bother to return here. Food is average, I had the chefs special beef-1 of 3 on the spicy scale but had very little flavor, i added the chili sauce condiment. The service is very bad -one waitress for the entire restaurant, she is also the maitre'd. Regardless, there were 3 tables seated, and she emerged from the kitchen once every 20 minutes. Appetizer plates were taken in her schedule, regardless if we were finished or not. Dessert looked promising, but our check was written and left on the table before the entrees were gone.

Stopped here for a takeout lunch and was pleasantly surprised at the very nice interior. The pad kee mao was so good! Great portion size for a lunch price as well. I couldn't even finish it (shocking because I'm ravenous during pregnancy) and it was well-seasoned.

Great service, even better food! Recommend: pad see you & pad kee mao Highly recommend: for something out of the ordinary (but still very tasty) I suggest Panang Curry and Thai Basil Fried Rice. Medium spicy was just perfect.

When my then boyfriend and I met, his food intake was limited to pizza, spaghetti, meat and potatoes. In an effort to diversify his palate, I asked him if he would be willing to try Thai Food. He said the first and only time he ever tried Thai food was with another guy friend. And the smell of the food reminded him of dog food. What?! Well, needless to say, exposing him to authentic Thai food would become my new mission. Since Thai Basil was the closest Thai place to his house, we decided to try them for the first time together. Eight years later, we are still coming back for more! These are the reasons why we LOVE Thai Basil: 1) Fresh Ingredients: There is nothing pre-made, frozen, or artificial tasting in any of the dishes we have ever tried. The dishes are freshly made to your liking soon after you order it. My fool proof, go to favorite is the Eggplant Basil with Chicken. If you are vegetarian, order it without the chicken. You can tell that the vegetables are fresh, based on the taste and its retained bold colors. The eggplants especially are to die for! Cooked to a perfect texture; the perfect combination of mush & firm. Along with the other ingredients, it's much like a party of flavors and spices in my mouth when I take each savory bite. My now husband's, (then boyfriend), all-time favorite is the Cashew Nut Chicken with pineapple. Our kids love it too, but mild. And of course, you cannot ignore the Thai Iced Tea. It is, for a lack of a better word: PERFECT. Fresh, not from a powder mix. Not too sweet, never watered down, perfectly refreshing and creamy, and always hits the spot. You have to try it. You will LOVE it too! Side Note: I also love all the fried fish dishes. 2) Family Friendly Service: The owners, Sue and her husband, have been such a delight to be around. When she's not busy with customers, she takes the time to say hello and asks about how our friends and family are doing. When we bring them to dine with us, she gets to know them too! Other servers like Frank, is just as approachable and friendly. My husband and I often shoot the breeze with Frank about travel, sports, business, and IT topics. We've been taking our identical twin girls here since they started eating solid food. Their favorite (Thai Sausage Fried Rice.) They love everything we have ever ordered for them, and the wait staff has put up with their sometimes loud temperaments, and ridiculously messy trails of rice all over the floor! 3) Atmosphere: What can I say, the place is so CHILL. No pretension, no upturned noses, most other patrons are just as easy going and are truly there to enjoy good "real" food. The décor is simple, non-distracting, and pleasant. The constant upkeep keeps the place looking fresh, never dingy or dirty. The bathrooms are always clean, and the height of the sink is perfect for toddler hand washing. The music and its volume are always appropriate for dining. The location is perfect too. Many times after a meal, we take a quick swing to Shop Rite next door to get items we ran out of. This is a great place both for a romantic dinner (sit by the front window away from the crowd if need be) or a dinner out with the kids. It does not get any better than that! So there you have it. From courtship, to marriage, to babies, to raising a family, Thai Basil has been an intrinsic part of our weekly dining pleasure. Our twins, now nearing four years old, yell out: "Thai Basil!" when we pass the restaurant while driving around town. We will miss you Thai Basil when we relocate to California. You are one (we have two favorites) of the best Thai restaurants in the state of New Jersey, as far as we are concerned. No one will ever replace your food & love in our belly and in our hearts.

Staff was wonderful. We had our grandfathers 91st birthday dinner here, and he loved the Shrimp and Lobster Sauce. They probably have the best restaurant birthday song ever! And the icecream with a candle they bring out and light was the best. Thank you Thai Basil for making it a memorable night :)

I'm on the fence with this place. My latest visit left me feeling the same. The staff here is great. Very friendly and competent. The decor looks like ever other thai place- outdated and put together by people who are not professional decorators. The food is what makes me not sure if I like it or not. One dish is really good, the next is eh. I had a favorite Thai dish of mine (pad see ew) but the noodles were very noticeably over cooked and it lacked sauce/flavor. However my mom had my second fav dish (pha ram) and it was excellent and had a little twist (chicken is crispy not sautéed).

Went during lunch time to get some Pad Thai. This dish is listed on the menu as popular, but I just can't fathom why. The wait to get service was a bit long and the pad thai tasted like sugar coated noodles with a side of grease. If one must venture here avoid the pad thai or perhaps settle for a slice of pizza next door.

Whenever I'm craving Thai food, this is usually where I want to go. Very good food and service is pretty quick. The inside could be better decorated and more inviting. But overall pretty worth it.

Ate here for the second time. The first time the food was okay nothing spectacular. They were a bit slow. I ate in and they were not that busy. This time around i order take out. The gentleman at the counter was super nice and had a bright smile(was having a bad day and that smile made it better) I ordered the basil chicken with rice from the lunch menu and the thai iced tea. I loved the food. They didn't seem so busy. The only reason why I hesitate to give it a full 5 stars is because the service was a little disappointing. There was one person doing all the work while 2 other just stood around both times when i ordered and went back to pick it up. It seemed like that older gentlemen couldn't speak much english but he made up for it with that bright smile. Will definitely go back because of him.

Thai Basil has been my go-to Thai restaurant since they opened! The staff are always super friendly and service is amazing! They make the best steamed dumplings!! Food can be a little pricey, but it is worth it!

I was craving Thai food and was in the pway area. Normally I go to Four Seasons which is some of the best Thai food I've ever had. However, I decided to try Thai Basil since I was too lazy to go to the ATM for Four Seasons. I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai and Shrimp Thai Basil Fried Rice to go (requested both be extra spicy). The lady at the counter was friendly and provided standard service. My food was ready in about 10-15 min..got home and was ready to eat! Fried rice was okay, buy didn't actually find any basil in my fried rice which was disappointing. The chicken pad Thai was even more disappointing though. This has got to be some of the blandest pad Thai I've ever had and I've had food court pad Thai. Seriously let down Thai Basil. You're not the worst, but you're far from the best.

I've been coming here on occasion for the past several years. It's conveniently located on Centennial Avenue, close to Rutgers and a lot of businesses. I find that their menu is more expansive than most Thai restaurants in the area. They also have a dedicated vegetarian menu as well. The restaurant is small and seating is tight. Not a lot of ambiance, but service is good. On my latest visit I got Chicken Pad Thai to go. It's not the best pad Thai I've ever had, but a nice portion and tasty.

I really wanted to give this place more stars because I had gone here a year ago and remembered it wasn't too bad, but when I went the other day I was really disappointed. We ordered to go and I ordered the usual Pad Ke Mao and Massamum curry, he really liked his curry but I couldn't even eat mine. It was beyond hot, hot to the point that it was as if I asked for it to be that spicy. I know that those noodles are spicier than most of the noodles but I was really unhappy with it. It smelled SOOOO good and from what I could taste it was good. I don't think it should be THAT spicy unless someone asks for it, a little bit is fine but the red pepper next to it just seems not enough to warn people. Hopefully we will try this place again and I can try something better, but for now I wasn't too thrilled. The man who gave me the food and checked us out was extremely friendly though, I enjoyed that. The decor is nice too, lots of seating. That parking lot sucks though!

Do not go here. I went here for Valentines Day and ended up with really bad food poisoning. I believe that it was from the salad that came with my pad thai which was mediocre at best. They drowned the dish in sugar. It is 16 hours after I ate and I'm still sick with a fever and classic food poisoning symptoms. :'(

This was one of the worst Thai restaurant experiences I have ever had. The food was bland, poorly priced and the service was atrocious and downright rude. Definitely will not be coming back.

Had the panang curry chicken and it was delicious. Husband had the salmon special which was just ok. Service was great. If we lived in the area we would definitely return.

Our favorite Thai in the area, good for eat in or take out. Very friendly owner and delicious food. Our favorites include the curry puff appetizer, Pad Thai (of course), and Thai Basil fried rice though I've never ordered anything and been disappointed and since we've been going for years, we have tried quite a bit. Thai Basil hosted our wedding rehearsal dinner a few years back & they did a splendid job with catering as well. Go out and support this local gem please!

Some of the best Thai food in the area, served fast and priced right. Not the friendliest service, but is very efficient. I recommend any of the lunch specials on the back page. And, try the rocket shrimp.

Terrible food. Slow service. Overcharged my credit card by over $60 for soup and rice! Go Four Seasons or Pad Thai instead!

Came here with friends. I had the duck with red curry. Not the best duck in a Thai place. Service is a bit slow. We did come in senior early bird time. Decent place to eat.

The location is very good . In a busy area. But the restaurant not very clean . I ordered the squid in love . The plate was dirty. The service over there was bad. I saw some customers just finished payment. The lady just took all the stuff from the table...

I've said this many times before, but I have been spoiled when it comes to Thai food. I will never forget my ex girlfriend's mother who cooked me lunch and dinner everyday. I cannot get any more authentic unless I travel to Thailand myself (on my Bucket list). Therefore, I have very high expectations when it comes to Thai cuisine. Call me an elitist, but I know what I want when it comes to Thai. Thai Basil offers a just relaxed enough atmosphere that you can take someone on a date but still keep it real low key and casual. The BYOB helps you set the mood while keeping costs down, which may sound awful, but is necessary in these tough economic times. The service is excellent and there is plenty of space so you don't feel cramped. At every Thai place I go to, I ALWAYS make sure to try the Pad-See-ew (broad flat noodles with beef and some vegetables). It was always my favorite, and my personal baseline. I also ask them to make it spicy to see how far they are willing to push the envelope. Thai Basil's offering was well made and flavorful. They didn't go as far as to make it true thai spicy, which usually makes you want to sweat and cry, but they did spice it up enough for me to thoroughly enjoy the dish. Seems like there are a few thai places around this area, but this had some respectable reviews, so I had to try it. I have to say that I was impressed with Thai Basil overall and will be coming back!

The food is OK. I have had much better Thai food in other parts of the country. I went for dinner (carry out) and I ordered Vegetarian Kee Mao--it was alright in flavor but little to no vegetables in the entire dish. The menu says Mixed Vegetables but it was mostly carrots and sweet red peppers. That is not really what I think of when I see Mixed Vegetables on a vegetarian entree and for that reason I would give it a C-. I also ordered Tom Kha Chicken Soup and this too was disappointing as it was mostly broth. Only 2 mushrooms and very little chicken in the bowl. I have eaten here before on past business trips to the area and it was OK, not great, but average. This time I would say they were below average since they went skimpy on all the ingredients in each dish.

My favorite Thai place by far.. I've been coming here since I was a student at Rutgers ~8 years ago when it opened. Love any of their duck dishes, massaman curry, and drunken noodles. Now that I sometimes come to the area for work, I always stop in for lunch. WILL ALWAYS COME BACK!

I went here for lunch and the food was OK. I got the pad thai with chicken and my friend got the mango curry. The pad thai had nice flavor, but a little too sweet. It tastes like pad thai (fish sauce, peanuts, etc) but it didn't have that extra flavor that took it to the next level. The chicken was a little over-cooked, but I liked the little char it had on it. I wish it came with bean sprouts, or some cilantro to add some brightness to it. Overall, it was a good pad thai, but not great. The mango curry came with a good amount of shrimp. The mango part of it didn't really add much to the curry. It wasn't a greasy curry, which was good. Overall, a good place to satisfy a thai-food craving with great cheap prices. Will try it again for it's other dishes.

I came to Thai basil with a buddy of mine for dinner before meeting up with a bunch of people. I had heard good reviews from a few different people and decided I had to try it. The food was really good here, I tried the pad thai and the red curry, I would defiantly come back for it. The down side was the service. The place had about 5 tables seated and there was only who I assumed was the owner running around for tables. We got water when we sat down and never got any other drinks, it was so bad that I actually just walked in the back and got myself a pitcher of water and the guy never even realized. The food however did come out in a prompt time. Maybe a server called out last minute, but the food was good enough to warrant coming back, plus I don't feel bashful helping myself to some water.

Haiku: For the average bite, Thai basil gets the job done. Location is great. But it is outdone By Four Seasons, up the street. For bigger portions, And lower prices, And flavor that can't be beat... Drive up Stelton road But Thai basil has The ambiance you can't get At the "Four seasons"

One of the worst and most overpriced thai restaurants I've ever been to. For starters, we had the roti shana which is bread with curry dipping sauce. What we got was bread that was smaller than the size of my hand with a small bowl of curry sauce for 7 bucks! What a complete ripoff. The whole plate didn't seem like a big enough appetizer for 1 person. In addition, we had asked for the vegetarian version but they gave us the curry sauce with huge chunks of chicken in it. When we told them, they didn't even try to apologize. The lady just whisked it away and gave us another one like nothing happened. The noodle dishes are all $11 and the curry dishes are all $13 which is more expensive than most other Thai restaurants here in NJ, or NYC for that matter. The vegetarian noodles dishes all came with very little vegetables and maybe 5 small pieces of tofu (is tofu really that expensive around here???). It's a pet peeve of mine to get noodle dishes that contain 95% noodles and 5% vegetables/meat and then charge $11 for it on top of that. Also, on another note, the women who took our order kept asking us if we were ordering appetizers. I found that quite rude, since we already said once that we weren't going to order any. The menu doesn't offer that many thai dishes except for the usual pad thai, pad see ew, curry dishes, so I have a feeling it's a restaurant mostly for those who are unfamiliar with Thai cuisine. This place may be a family-owned restaurant but there is a reason why it was mostly empty on a Saturday night. I wouldn't be surprised if it went out of business soon.

Ugh. Not even a huge Thai food fan but I know good Thai food when I taste it and I can tell you this place is NOT it. Ordered pad thai as take-out and although the service was prompt, the food was awful. I expected at least a little bit of a kick or strong flavor and it literally had no taste. I felt like I was eating plain noodles with a touch of peanut sauce. $12 wasted. :(

I came here for the first time with my friend. I must say, I had mixed feelings after my meal. I got the pad see you, which had chinese broccoli in it, my fav, as well as tum yum soup with shrimp. My friend got the crispy tamarind duck. The pad see you could use a bit more seasoning. The tum yum soup was tasty but was a bit on the mild side as opposed to the spicy tum yum soup I know and love. The tamarind duck was pretty good, a little sweet and tangy. The price for some of the dishes, however, were pretty expensive. It came out to be around 50 dollars for two people. The soup came in a little bowl with a few pieces meat in it, and it was priced at 5/6 dollars a bowl. Not very happy. Last but not least, the fried ice cream, which was about 6 dollars for 1 fried ice cream. They poured a bit of rum over the ice cream, and lit it on fire, which was cool. The breading on the outside was pretty decent, it didnt soak up the oil, which is a plus. However when you try to spoon into it, the breading falls off the ice cream beacause of how it's wrapped. Overall this is a decent place if you want to try out thai food, but it's not a place I would go regularly.

There were 3 of us who came to Thai Basil for lunch. It took a while for someone to take our order and we were not very confident they properly understood what we wanted. For instance, I ordered a Thai Iced Coffee but did not receive it until about 15 minutes later when I asked about it. In a quick review of the food we tried, we were not overall impressed: - Golden Wing: Probably some of the worst I have ever tried. It was just chicken which reminded me of Sizzler Buffets but much worse quality. No sure sure these were marinated as the menu description says... instead maybe just emptied out of the package. The sweet chili sauce was OK but it was served on the side. Would have been best to combine both I think. - Thai Dumpling: Supposed to have been stuffed with shrimp and crabmeat. Instead it looked as it were stuffed with all chicken. These were also quite small and dense. Unimpressed. - Massaman Curry (w/ Beef): Probably the best item we had for lunch. It has the right amount of spice flavour and was tasty. - Squid in Love: Decent flavour, but really poor on the seafood quality. Shrimp was more like medium or large, definitely not jumbo as the menu describes. Also, there was barely any squid in the dish. - Pad Thai (w/ Chicken): This was an OK dish. We didnt finish it and had it packed up. There was definitely more food left over than the small 1/2 pint container it was packed into. Ugh, one of the reasons why I like to pack my own food my own way. - Dessert: We tried 2 different desserts which are not on the take out menu. Hence I am unable to recall which exactly they were. One of them was a chocolate cake. We were not impressed with these. In summary, there are much better places nearby to eat lunch (like the vegetarian Indian buffet), however, we wanted something spicy and non-Indian Asian. Unfortunately, we were disappointed with the quality of the food. For the most part, it was also quite bland given our request for spicy (I had to keep dumping the Thai chili powder/flakes onto my jasmine rice to give me my heat kick.)

Okay. So, I've returned to Thai Basil a number of times, and... they've won me over. Four stars it is! Admittedly I haven't been back for table service since the awful lunchtime debacle; I've only done takeout. But the food has been consistently very good. It's not the best Thai food out there, but it's definitely worth repeat business and certainly a great option for lunch and the occasional take home dinner. The Vegetarian Kee Mao remains my favorite dish here - and I'm happy to report that I've never come across another egg shell! The container I brought home for tonight's dinner was packed to capacity with the stuff; takeout orders are definitely generous. They've also finally kicked up the heat to a respectable level. Another major improvement is with staffing. The young woman that has greeted me the last few times is super friendly and pleasant to deal with - worlds apart from the surly, frazzled woman who abandoned my coworker and I mid-order back in October. Service with a smile is definitely a nice change of pace! So yeah, four stars. They've earned it. :o)

They have started to stoop even lower, I was there last week on a saturday around 1:00 PM and I could not belive that the whole time for 1.5 hrs there was no other soul who came to eat. They have fired the other waiters and the owner seems to be taking orders. The food was very lack lusture and they could not even get the spice right and flavour is all gone. Sad it was a good place but chef gone, everyhthing gone, now, its a matter of time its going to kick the bucked licking its wounds.

When in the mood for Thai for lunch at the office, this place is a convenient, though not necessary THE place to go for Thai. Their delivery is inconsistent, as is the size of their dishes. More often than not, they tend to have large dishes and there's no way anyone can finish the meal without getting stuffed to the brim. When eating in, the wait staff does tend to rush you to order when it's busy (almost to the point of being rude), and the kitchen appears to feel the pressure as well. We've had some undercooked dishes when it's been super busy, so I highly recommend going when volume is low. I usually get the Pad Kee Mao or the Pad Thai. The Pad Kee Mao can be very spicy--but I love spicy, so it's all good for me. The amount of vegetables or meat that is in the dish, however, is hit or miss. Sometimes it's just a few pieces, others it's loaded with meat/veggies The Pad Thai can also sometimes be very dry and flavorless, but on a good day, it can be very, very good. All in all, if you're craving Thai, it's OK. The prices are decent, but it's always a risk to see if it's one of their good days or one of their bad days.

I ate here with two others last month. The two others had pad thai, one with chicken and one vegetarian. I tried both so I know they were good. I had the pineapple veggie dish (can't recall the name) which was quite good. The portions were generous and the place was pretty crowded. The food might have been 4 stars, but the service was not so hot. The woman helping us kept saying she'd be right back and then would start helping others instead of getting us water (or whatever we asked for).

I stood for 10 minutes waiting to be seated for dinner. That would have been okay, except the entire restaurant was completely empty other than one table, who was wondering where the heck the server had gone. The server was nowhere to be seen and when she did come out, she proceeded to chat on the phone. I waited for her to finish her conversation until deciding this was absolutely ridiculous. Maybe they redeem themselves with their food, but the service was such a turnoff I don't know if I would go back.

Granted, I only ordered 1 dish to go, so maybe the experience would have been different if I dined in. That being said, I personally think it's quite difficult to make a bad-tasting pad thai. The only possibility is if it's too salty. This was not the case with this restaurant, BUT they did manage to forget to put crucial ingredients for pad thai. When I opened my box, there was NO peanut crumbs and NO limes anywhere. Also, there were NO utensils or even napkins given with the order. Again, maybe I should dine in next time.

Dependable always-great Thai food in a relaxed setting. I've only ever had the Pad Thai and the various curries (there's 4 or 5 of them) but they've always been great. Another big plus here is the BYOB aspect. Makes for a very affordable and excellent meal. They'll make any dish as spicy or not-spicy as you want it. Service is always great. They're also well-equipped to do take-out if you want to eat it at home.

This was the first restaurant I ate at in Piscataway. It doesn't get points based on its look and ambiance but as far as food goes this is one good Thai restaurant. I ordered a flat rice noodle dish which was both spicy and quite tasty. I will be coming back.

This is one of my favourite local Thai restaurants. It's nicely decorated and clean. I've had the chicken satay, thai salad, roti shana (spicy but flavorful), pad see ew, or pad thai... wash it all down with a cool Thai Iced Tea. You get a good amount of food at a good price. If you're in the mood for Thai food, come to Thai Basil.

Yelps map got me a bit confused locating this place and was a bit apprehensive entering because of the surrounding businesses (strip mall). The service was definitely not quick to greet you but I eventually got placed in an acceptable table. Looking over the menu I was surprised to see such a selection of dishes for such a small place. Equally surprised to see duck on the menu. From the reviews, I heard it was good but I'll save that for the appropriate time. I wanted thai food. So I ordered the typical Pad Thai considering that's how I really rate a Thai restaurant. I also ordered the Tom Kah Chicken soup (also a deal breaker). The soup came out fresh and piping hot just the way I like. Although they use typical white mushrooms which the the fun out of the soup. But would recommend it. The Pad Thai came out hot as lava and needed it to cool down before trying it again. I utilized this time to tend to the blisters! The Pad Thai was really good though. Not over oiled, huge portion, and everything tasted really fresh. All in all I would recommend this spot if you're looking for a nice quiet place to chill and not be rushed. Service was ok. Atmosphere was your typical Thai joint nothing more nothing less.

Don't be put off by the fact that it is located in the strip-mall with shoprite of piscatway. Their prices are little high compared to the local competition of say Four Seasons, but the nicer restaurant setting is what you pay for I guess. Food is really good and really really spicy.

Great place for lunch. I enjoyed the food. But service/hospitality was little disappointing.

Not a bad spot to stop in for a quick bite to eat, check out the massaman curry if your feeling adventurous.

Really good Thai food located near the Shop Rite. I can't say the food is a mind-blower (maybe because its not authentic to the extreme), but it's consistently very good and fairly priced all the time. Although I don't think their APPETIZER SAMPLER for 4 is worth $21.95 (their spring rolls are a FAIL), everything else is good. PAD THAI is $9. Their SEASONAL FISH is roughly around $22, 24 depending on size. Their THAI ICED TEA is average. I always order the CHICKEN WITH PINEAPPLE AND CASHEW NUT entree. I've eaten here and have ordered take out on many occasions but if you really want to experience this place, have a birthday here on a weekday. It's very quiet, until they play the birthday music and whip out the sparkling candles. And from what i recall, this place is BYOB too.

Large beautiful decorated place, ordered basil lamb, massaman curry w shrimp tum yum soup . All were spicy with the soup being on the brutally spicy side, the potatoes in the massaman curry were slightly undercooked. Make sure to have the waitress write down your order because she messed my order & another tables order by using her memory. Chicken tum yum is what I originally requested, but the shrimp was just as good.

The food is good, except I was not impressed with their Pad Thai. The service isn't the best and they generally seem overwhelmed even when it is not very crowded. If you get takeout, check your order before leaving since they frequently give me the wrong food.

I used to go here all the time a few years ago, I walked in there tonight to pick up a to-go order and the place was bright with florescent lighting. It was atmospherically awful and I felt really bad that this place which I used to feel was a gem became so horrible to enter. On top of that, when I gave my order on the phone, the woman was really rushed and I remember clearly saying, " Not very spicy," and the dish turned out so spicy that neither I nor my husband could eat it (to give you a frame of reference on my tolerance for spice, I have eaten chunks of wasabi the size of a peanut M&M with very little difficulty.)

The food is pretty good, I've always liked the dishes I've tried. Always seems a bit on the empty side, but that's good for me since I get seated immediately. Since it's a BYOB place, it makes for an inexpensive date night or even group dinner. Only slight annoying thing is they tend to rush you with seating, ordering, paying, etc. One downfall for an otherwise great place. I will definitely come back.

Me & my husband went for lunch. There was only one waitress taking orders and serving for the 3 other customers apart from us. When taking our order, she calculated our bill in our table.when we finished our food, she just gave us the bill without asjing us if we were interested in dessert or anything more. She was surprised to see our empty plates and said that we must have been hungry to finish it rather than saying their food was good. Anyways , it goes to say, would never return to this place nor recommend this to anyone else.

i love this place. after all I used to be a server/hostess here before. great authentic dishes (I am thai and I can say that much) that are made to order and can be modified anyway you choose. the service is fast and reliable (did i mention I used to be a server here?) stamp of approval from a Thai person..now you know that's legit.

One of my favorite local Thai cuisine restaurants. Good sized portions at a great price. The atmosphere is good for a date but not for a first date.

We went here for lunch and I was disappointed with the pad thai. It was not very authentic. I've had better one (sushi o) in edison nj is the best pad thai i've ever had. For appetizers, we tried chicken satay it was alright and the peanut sauce was ok too. Their calamari was good, it was beer battered and i'm just glad it was not rubbery... Won't go back to this place!!

3.75 stars Very impressed with this place on all fronts. The room is tastefully decorated, with tradtional wall hangings and it's has a muted red-brown color scheme. The tables are nicely spaced although they are close enough that you get some conversation leakeage. The menu is not that adventourus, and contains most of the usual suspects. Everything we tried was prepared expertly and spicy dishes were just that, not watered down versions for Suburban American palates. We opened with two standards; chicken satay and roti. The chicken was on a skewer but it was cut into pieces that were more or less bitesized and not on monolithic piece of meat. The chicken was marinated, but no overly so. The satay sauce tasted fresh and creamy. The roti came out pipping hot with a generous portion of curried chicken, there was so much chicken it was almost an entree. As this was lunch we opted for two noodle dishes, the pad thai and pad kee mao (drunken noodle). The latter were better and had enough heat-goodness to raise persperation on the upper lip. If it isn't spicy, what's the point of eating Thai!? The staff we quite attentive, never an epmty water glass. They checked on us frequently wihtout being intrusive. * Awesome suburban Thai that is not too Americanized. YASMG! * Really fresh ingedients, no veggie was overused. * Prices were not bad and although we did not eat off the lunch menu it seemed to be bargain priced. * Very firendly and professional staff.

Dependable thai food. Tum yum, pad thai and beef salad are all very good imo. That being said, i would have to warn people to double check their bill. When things don't add up, ask for them the explain what the extra charges are for. Mistakes happen and i can understand that, but this has occurred on several occasions

i am serious about my thai food - i have a cook book to prove it. since i'm still relatively new to the central jersey area, i have been dying to find a really good thai restaurant. a good friend of mine suggested i try this place (she keeps a copy of their menu in her car). so a friend and i went one saturday and had a great time! the restaurant was small and more intimate than what i expected. and, it ways byob - which was cool - i just didn't know before i arrived. the food was amazing - hot & spicy just like i like it! the waitress messed up my order but my friend and i were having such a good time she caught her own mistake before i did! i will certainly dine here again. it's not the best i've ever had but it is much better than what i conjure up at home with my cook book!

This family owned Thai restaurant is amazing and deserves 6 stars. It is some of the best Thai food I have ever had and I have eaten at Thai restaurants in San Francisco, New York, Chicago, and in many more citiies. I went on Tuesday April 26th for dinner and got the Hot Basil Dish which was awesome and also the Tom Yum Soup, also delicious. At every Thai restaurant I go I ask the same question. Do you serve Thai Roti Dessert? I asked the host (son of the owner) if they have a Thai dessert named Roti. Roti is also and Indian Bread which they serve as an appetizer. The Roti dessert is made from the bread, fried, then condensed milk is added, and then a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. He said they could make it but didn't have condensed milk but if I wanted he could go buy some. I was already soooo full I said I would come back on Thursday if they could make it then. He said YES so I just finished my Roti dessert since tonight is Thursday :) I am very happy and it was delicious. Not a lot of places serve it because it takes a lot of time to make. If you ask at any Thai restaurant they know what it is but 99% of the restaurants do not serve it. I am very glad that they made it for me. THANK YOU THAI BASIL. I will be back soon!!!

This has been our second trip here and it was even better then the first. The staff is very friendly and the food is excellent. We'll be coming back again and again. It has became our new favorite restaurant.

Found a cooked daddy long legs spider in my meal...unfortunately it wasn't until I was home & reheating my leftovers. I saw the legs at the restaurant but thought it was an herb...so stupid of me.

Decent food overall but the spring rolls are terrible. Quite possibly the worst I have ever had. I would go back but would stick to the rice and pad thai which were okay.

Any place that adds gratuity regardless of number of people that are dining, should either be amazing at food an service, or is just out to stiff you. Sadly, Thai Basil is just run-of-the-mill at both food and service. The food is average, and the service leaves much to be desired. The waitress insisted that I order a different beverage than the one I asked for..I asked her if she didnt have the other one...but she wouldnt own up and kept insisting and she's giving me good advice! Well, I didnt ask for advice!! The portions are smaller compared to other similar Thai restaurants and the prices are higher. The decor is kind of depressing because the light are always dim without any intent of it being romantic.

Worst Pad Thai I've ever had...I just had it about 2 hrs ago and now I want to throw up. No Joke.

This place is ok. I ordered lunch a few times and overall it's not bad. One time, I ordered the Thai basil chicken to go. They gave me someone else's food when I check in the car and went back to correct it. Another time, I ordered the Rice noodles with basil chicken and the noodles were in huge lumped pieces.

Loved: Food is absolutely amazing, I have never been unsatisfied with anything I have tried here. Liked: Since this is a small restaurant the service is quick and the seating is comfortable and not to crowed. Hated: The friendliness of the staff, they changed management a little over a year ago and ever since I have not been impressed with the waitresses/waiters.

Foods nothing special and the service is awful. They forgot my appetizer. Food took forever. Couldn't get drink refills. Saw a table walk out because no one came over to greet them even after they complained to woman that looked like she was either the manager or owner. My Pad Thai was good, but it was not worth all of the frustration. So many better Thai places in the area so I suggest you skip this one. All in all an awful experience.

Nice decor, great-priced lunch specials. Pleasant service. I love Thai food. This one is good, but not the best. The problem is the foods are, I don't know how to explain it... like one-note. Like there will be one flavor, a nice interesting flavor, but just one. Usually Thai food has so many flavors going on at once. Here, you will have a lovely experience - of one flavor. Choose well, grasshopper...

The atmosphere and everything is really nice and the service was great. I felt they were overpriced for what we ordered. I can't complain about the quality of the food but there are better deals. If you're looking for a nice thai dinner though, this is definitely the place.

This is one of the best Thai restaurants in the area, I often took my colleagues to eat here when it was a Chinese restaurant before since my friend Professor Tu was working here as waitor during summer when he was students of Montclair University and later Wisconsin University. During lunch time, it often full of professionals from AT&T, Telcordia, IBM, Sun, ...etc since there is no restaurants in Hoes Ln and Centenial corporate area; they all came to eat at this area, and Thai is very popular in recent years. We often had a nice dinner here before going next door for shopping at Shoprite in weekend. Well, it is no good to go supermarket when stomach is empty when one may buy lots of unwanted items. The price matches the decoration, but it seems to be a nice birthday dinner place. We came here often because we love the food and service. My kids love the drink particularly.

Best Thai food! It's funny to say because of the location, but this is the best Thai food I've had in NJ. The restaurant is quaint and decorated nicely, it's good for a date or group of people. The service is nice and the food is just hands down the best Thai around. Don't let the random town and strip mall location fool you, this is a great place to go!!

More like a 3.5. Great Thai, in a place that spicy actually means spicy. The soup dishes are great, the noodle dishes are solid and the green curry is very flavorful.
