It was here or Mehndi in Morristown, and we probably should have gone with Mehndi. I was so excited to try the lunch buffet here but when we sat down and I asked about it, the server said they only have it during the week. What?? The whole buffet table was even set up! We decided not to leave because I wasn't sure if we'd make it to Mehndi on time anyway. I had the Chicken Tikka Marsala and it was fine. I've definitely had better. My boyfriend had the Lamb Masala and asked for medium. When it came, it had no spice whatsoever. I don't like spicy things and even I was disappointed. The garlic naan was pretty good, but I think it's saying something when the best part of your meal was the bread... I probably won't be returning.

Got take out here so can't speak for the service or experience in the actual restaurant. The food itself was decent; had a lamb dish that was delicious and my friend had a vegetarian dish that was even more delicious. My only gripe with this place, and the rest of the Indian places in the area, is the price. For $16 an entree, I would expect a little more than just a few chunks of meat and rice (granted, the other major Indian restaurant in town charges $6 for rice so this is the lesser of two evils). Oh well, I guess Morristown is just not the place to be for Indian cuisine.

Finally got here for lunch. Buffet is good, but limited in scope. I prefer the variety at Cinnamon, and I think this is directly related to my love of chicken mahkani. Over a nice experience, though, and very attentive staff.

Four of us came to this restuarant on a Wednesday night for dinner. The decor was what I consider to be typical of Indian restaurants in NJ, but I will take note that Caffe India was a bit cleaner than most I've been in. The servers were attentive, always making sure we had enough water. When my friend had a question about a dish, it was obvious the server was aware of the composition of the dishes served in the restaurant. We ordered Paratha, Garlic naan, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Dansik, Lamb Pasanda, Bayngan Bhurta and were all pleased with the dishes. The chicken and lamb portions were cooked perfectly, and the curry sauces fresh and not overly salty. The Bayngan Bhurta, which is a vegetable only dish was probably my favorite. The two types of roti we ordered were nice and warm when served, and definitely had that nice charred aroma of coming right off of their tandoor. Street parking isn't hard to find, and after meals its nice to head towards the Green for dessert at the various places that have sprouted up (Seriously, people in Morristown must love probiotics...four different frozen yogurt places are now open on the same street) In my opinion, none of the other places I've been to in the area are as good as this place. I'll be back.

By far this is the best Indian food in the area (so far). I have been to at least 4 others and this one really takes the cake for their food. Its hard to know where to even start so I am going to start with the Lasse; Each flavor (sweet, mango, unsweet, and rose) tastes great. My new favorite is the rose flavored, I want one now as I talk about it. The naan is probably the best I have tasted anywhere. I have lived in 15 different states and I go to Indian restaurants semi often and the naan is just so fresh and scrumptious. If you are a garlic lover you must try the garlic naan. There is a variety of vegetarian and non veg dishes. My new favorite is the Shahi Paneer which is cheese cubes in a yogurt sauce. You can vary the spiciness of any dish and the staff will handle most requests for changes you have. I have had chicken, lamb and a few other dishes and again, nothing but superb. The atmosphere is ok in this place. The inside is filled with paintings of Indian deity and other paintings. The restaurant has a higher scale mood, but it is not actually the case. Someone comes to pour you water every time it gets near empty and the waiters are receptive to your needs even before you ask. All in all if you like Indian food or if this is your first taste I would recommend trying Cafe India. Be careful though if you come here you will think all other Indian restaurants are just not up to par.

Not bad. I went for the lunch buffet. I was a little disappointed in the choices for the buffet. The naan was nice and hot and tasty.

This is absolutely my favorite indian food in Morristown & even the larger area (have tried many). I usually order only the creamier dishes they serve (lamb rogan josh), but all the tandoori food I've had there is good as well. BYO

We continue to go here it continues to be one of our favorite places. I don't think we've ever been let down by the food, or the service. It's great.

Caffe India is a very unique eating experience. The Chicken Tikka Masala is the very best I've ever had. Everything from the atmosphere to the food is exquisite. One of the best Indian restaurants in NJ.

Just really good every time I have ever been. Lamb rogan josh and veggie korma are my go to menu items.

I needed Indian food one day. I wasn't even sure at the time if I liked Indian food (but lets be serious, I like everything). We went to Caffe India on a Friday night and it was much more busy than we would have expected. The decor is that of a typical Indian restaurant- elephants and gold meets NJ diner, but it was super clean. Not wanting to do any deciding, we ordered the Combination Special for Two- less than $45 if I can remember correctly. The server asked us how spicy we wanted our dishes and I think he got the hint since we started practically drooling when we both said- very, very, spicy. The food was awesome, we had a variety of dishes plus ALOT of food to take home. BYO also.

Had the vegetarian thali at medium spice level. Really good authentic food. Though tandoori rots was a bit thin so would ask for naan bread next time. Nice casual decor and clean bathrooms.

Bottom Line: Clean, casual, BYOB, featuring an extensive menu of what appeared to be authentic indian cuisine. I've never been a big fan of indian food, because when it's not good, it's really not good, but this place is quickly making me change my opinion of the whole cuisine. Plenty of indian patrons in this place, which is always a tip off that I'm in the right place. My only knock is ( and I never thought I would say this), I could have used some more heat....and the chicken was a hair overdone. Go there, push around some naan and have some fun. Highlights We ordered the following: *Shrimp Shahi Korma Large pieces of shrimp soaked in mild curries softened by a yogurt based sauce.I was expecting heat, and honestly I think they were taking it easy on me. It was delicious, and I would certainly consider it a highlight. *Chicken Saag Boneless chicken pieces sauteed with spinach and enhanced with mild Indian spices. It's like steakhouse creamed spinach with chicken and indian herbs. Delicious! *Chicken Tikka Masala Tender boneless chunks of chicken, broiled in the Tandoor, then cooked in a rich tomato, onion and butter sauce. *Dhabha Lamb Lamb cubes prepared in the Tandoor, seasoned in the traditional style in a saucepan.Tender and juicy, flavorful, could have used some heat Warm naan, both plain and garlic, were a perfect accompanyment to sop up all that delicious indiany goodness. Oh, Caffe India, plan on seeing more of me.

After living in San Francisco for years, I did not think I would find Indian food that I enjoyed nearly as much. Cafe India is delicious. BYOB, there is a liquor store/bar next door that only sells budweiser and coorslight and had heineken but would not sell it to me, so i give the liquor store only 1 star. They also do take out.

The food was straight from CANs and bottles. They over-charge - check your check with the menu prices. Drink: 1. Pina Colada For starter/ appetizers: 1. Tomato Soup 2. Paneer Tikka (I ordered this from main course as all their appetizers are deep fried items, which are not so good for my arteries) Main course: 1. Bhindi Masala 2. Malai Kofta Review: *Pina Colada: It was like drinking a milk shake with shredded coconut in it, and some pineapple essence. Seriously...it wasn't worth $3.95. *Tomato Soup: This was tomato puree straight out of can - they heated, or I must say overheated it in microwave that it almost burned my mouth. The smell of preservatives was all over the place. Tomato soup at a $$ place should have atleast some cream in it - this was just tomato puree that could not be prepared with condiments on dinner table. *Paneer Tikka: This was the best dish. At least Paneer was fresh and the marination sauce was good. 1 star in rating is for that. Ordering this was probably the best decisions I made that night. *Bhindi Masala: It was more of bell pepper than bhindi (okra). Tasted ok. *Malai Kofta: I can guarantee that Kota balls were not fresh. Their outer skin was so rubbery, it made it difficult to eat with naan/ roti. The gravy itself was tasteless. Conditments: The green chutney they served on table was tasteless, and had no flavor to it. Usually, at any Indian restaurant they will serve mint chutney, but this was straight out of bottle and watery. There was no consistency or flavor to it. Service & Decor: Service was so-so. The server over charged me and I showed him the price on his own menu, and he offered to correct it. Ah no, you are caught and you can imagine the look on his face. Decor is dark and dingy. No air flow in restaurant (may be they didn't turn on their air-conditioning) and it felt like choking after an hour. They may be overcharging customers as who hardly remembers the price and checks against menu. A few disclaimers: 1. I am a vegetarian 2. I dared to go to a Indian restaurant on weekday for dinner 3. I am Indian - so know Indian food *I believe people should go to such Indian restaurants only on weekends when they are busy and chefs are forced to prepare fresh food. This was probably the most horrible food experience of my life for a restaurant which is rated so high in Yelp's rating. I am really surprised on how this restaurant has such a high rating.

It was one of the best Indian Resturant that I have been to outside of the India. There are extensive menu for all special way of cooking and spice. We have three dishes, one tedoribe type of chicken but with no bone in, one lamb and one vergetible dishes. You may ask the waiter for suggetion and let him know your preference. One must be back Resturant!

Delicious, reasonably priced Indian food. Try the Chicken Tikka Masala and the breads. There is no reason to pay more and go anywhere else for Indian!

  • E Z.

I've been dining and getting take out for over 5 years, it's always been excellent. Unfortunately, today I was disappointed for the first time. Caffe India's portions are decreasing, you get ample amounts of sauce and scant amounts of protein. They are even rationing their rice. Prices increase and portion size decreases!

  • Steve B.

Extremely Good. Went there for the first time last night and everything was delicious. Garic Naan and Chicken Tikka Masala are two must haves. It's BYOB which is nice. Wait staff= attentive, Atmosphere= comfortable. My first Indian food experience and certainly not my last. Will be going back here frequently.

Good flavorful food, attentive service. They are good at adjusting spice levels per customer requests. Some of our friends don't like spicy good yet we can still go to Caffe India with them and everyone enjoys the level of spice they order. BYO liquor.

I really enjoyed my meal and have no trouble giving this 5 stars. What a great place! It's easy to pass by on the street as it's located in a nondescript strip on Washington Street. The inside decor is pleasant but nothing too special. However the service and the food were absolutely outstanding. I'm a big fan of Indian food. I think Cafe India can hold it's own against the best out there. The way the chef used the spices was very skillful, you got the flavor without being overpowered. We had a nice assortment from the menu and everything was fantastic. The prices are reasonable and it's a BYOB. Looks can be deceiving, don't let the facade fool you, there's a hidden gem inside!

  • Jane B.

Picked up tandoori salmon and chicken tikka masala. The salmon was perfect! Still tender and juicy and great flavor. Next time I won't hesitate when asked if I want mild or spicy. While the flavors were spot on, my hesitation may have prompted the maitre d' to order mild when I really was looking for some good heat. The free sample of rice pudding certainly was smart. I'll definitely order it next time! The green cardamom added fabulous flavor and perfume. It won't be long before our next take-out order. :)

The best Indian food I've ever had in my life! This was the 1st place I had ever had Indian food, probably 15 years ago. I expected other Indian restaurants to be as good and I have yet to find a place that makes food as kick-ass as this place. Love the Naan and condiments. Friends had me try that chick pea/garbanzo salad thing (can't think of the name) and it was so flavorful and refreshing. The tandoori salmon? Holy good god - that's some GREAT stuff. The chicken tikka masala.. very good, no weird chicken bits; save some Naan to soak up the sauce. Service is attentive.

  • Eric S.

I have been here a couple times for dinner and many times for the lunch buffet. The chicken makhani is my favorite but everything is spicy and deeply flavorful. This is the finest Indian fare that I've ever had in a state that has plenty of places to sample from.

Not great, Not bad. Try not to take away our plates before we are eating. Get there early because the lunch buffet will thin out around 2pm.

As Indian restaurants go, this one is not bad. It has a nice ambiance and the staff are just the right side of attentive. They are not overly friendly but then neither are they hostile. There are plenty of veggie options and the food is spiced just right. One of my party orders Chicken tikka masala on a regular basis and he rated it quite highly; with the only complaint being that the were a little heavy-handed with the cream, resulting in an unnecessarily rich dish. Overall a good choice and we would go back

We enjoyed Caffe India. Yes, it has the requisite smell and music of an indian restaurant. The food was delicious and service attentive. BYOB help the wallet a bit. We had the Tikka Masala and the Tandoor Combo. The meat samosa is awesome, the veg samosa not as good. Love, love , love the plum sauce the was served with the samosa apps, actually used it as a sauce for my Tandoor Combo (which is dry rubbed w spices). Next visit, we will be more adventurous with our selections...

I'm on a new kick trying Indian foods. This place impressed me, and I left so stuffed. I don't do buffets, so I ordered cocunut soup (very rich) and a vegetarian meal. It deserves the four stars. The food tasted great as cold leftovers later on :).

I love Indian food and truly had one of the best meals at this restaurant. The decor was warm and inviting and service was perfect. The food was fresh and cooked to order.

We love it here, and come every week. It is always a fun time, we just always leave in a good mood and happy. Nice, friendly service, decor is not so special, prices are great, the naan is hot and fresh, and served with whichever chutneys or dips you prefer. We always get the chicken tikka masala, "Indian spicy!" The spinach saag paneer, and mango chutney. Bring your own beer and enjoy. We have also enjoyed the tandoori chicken, and always get the basmati rice. Five stars is for the extra special, but this one deserves to be a local fave. We have been to India, and we can go to Mendhi or other places, but this one is really good. We love it. I like everything super spicy, so I am crying....they know us, they know that, they make it like I like it. The chicken tikka masala is tender and the food is consistently well prepared. The owners are so sweet and friendly.

We have been going to Caffe India for 14 years. Ownership has changed and has only gotten better. We have introduced many friends to Indian food and love taking our own wine for an unrushed and delicious meal, prepared and served by the sweetest family around. Their salmon special is divine, as is the chicken tikka masala. There is nothing we have ordered that has disappointed us. Wonderful sauces. Fantastic condiments and breads. We get take-out at least once/month, but prefer to grab a booth and enjoy a special meal with friends. Casual. Easy. The best! And BYOB!!!!

    (5)
  • Laura F.

Very good food and friendly, attentive service. We had the Bayngan Bhurta (tandoor roasted and mashed eggplant) and the Malai Kofta (vegetable balls in a spiced cream sauce) and both were delicious. Plus, it's BYOB, so you save some $$$ there.

This is the best place to go for amazing Indian food! We've been coming here for years and everything in delicious. The whole staff is extremely friendly and attentive. Coming to Caffe India is a very enjoyable experience. Highly recommended!

Great atmosphere and great employees! I recently went on a Saturday afternoon for a lunch buffet and at only $10 per person it was excellent. Five or six different dishes to choose from and since my grandmother can't eat spicy food, they actually made her a special little plate of chicken tiki masala and didn't charge extra for it! They even had a little dessert bar. Very reasonably priced for the great, authentic food. I parked on the street, but to be honest, I don't know if there is additional parking.

I was very happy I came here. The service was very good and friendly. The menu items are the typical Indian Fare, but with some extra touches. The portions on the cucumber sauce and chutney that they give you with your meal were larger, There was also a single tomato and some fresh herbs sprinkled on my Saag Paneer (cheese cubes in spinach). The naan was fresh, and they threw in some Mango pudding (like a previous reviewer) for free. They also asked me how spicy I wanted the dish. A good sixteen options to choose from if your vegetarian (like me) as well. Some of these items looked like they would be vegan as well but I would ask first.

  • R M.

Came in here for the first time on Saturday night with a friend who is relatively new to Indian food. We were not disappointed. Diverse menu of Indian standards and a few less common dishes, including plenty of vegetarian options. The food was good, and they were all too happy to bring hot sauce on the side. Unlike many Indian restaurants, the decor here is nice and clean, without being too tacky or dated. Not too noisy either so it's perfect for a casual evening. And the prices are good too, averaging about $20/person for appetizer, entree and naan. As others have mentioned the service was excellent! Our servers were attentive with the water and asking if we needed anything else. What I really appreciated was they didn't rush us. We had as much time as we needed/wanted to savor our food. It's BYOB so come prepared if you want alcohol - there is a liquor store next door. When it came time to leave, they packaged up our leftovers, giving us extra rice, and let us linger. Definitely one of the best Indian restaurants I've experienced!

I've been to a few Indian restaurants in Central and North Jersey. This is by far my favorite. I've been there for dinner and their lunch buffet. The flavors and seasoning are on point. The chicken tikki masala is to die for. The service is really good- staff will offer recommendations and explain what is what. They recommended the tea and wow... it was delicious.

  • Peter V.

Our go-to Indian restaurant in the area. Food is usually fresh and well prepared and the service is friendly and attentive. Cuisine is not exceptional in any way, but reliably good, better than any other we've tried in Morris County.

This review is based on one visit on a Sunday night for dinner (likely my only visit), so take it for what it is worth. Service was good, if not excellent. The problem was RECYCLED (STALE) food! I have a high tolerance for so-so food, but I simply could NOT eat the food. Now, I realize that much of Indian food can be re-heated (I am Indian), but I am talking about stale grilled chicken and lamb! On this visit I just paid the bill (and the tip because it cannot be the server's fault) and left the food. I encounter this phenomenon often in the 2nd tier Indian restaurants. They seem to serve left-overs presumably from their buffet lunches. To me it appears that the cost of fresh food, while not trivial, cannot be the biggest cost category for a restaurant. Yet I find that a restaurant would risk customer alienation this way. It is too bad, because the location is convenient for me, and I would have dearly loved to patronize this place.

  • Allie G.

This is my favorite Indian place outside of Jersey City! We went on a Sunday evening and it was their first Sunday that they were open. The food was unbelievable! I got a lamb special and my husband got Lamb Vindaloo. We also got the naan. I would highly recommend trying whatever they have on special as I have full confidence that they know what's best. They also served us some mango pudding just to show it to us, we hadn't ordered any dessert. The people that own it are gracious hosts and the service was very good. I highly recommend giving this place a try. MMMM.... delicious.

i just relocated to the area. my temporary corporate housing is only blocks form Caffe India. my first night in, i walked on up and got the veggie sampler as take out... upon returning home and venturing into my feast, i was stunned... the amount of food i received for a bout $20 was astounding! i had enough to manage maybe 4 meals for, say a normal person.... being the indian freak i am, i devoured it in two sits. that said, the food was STELLAR.... being new to the suburbs of new jersey, i was not optimistic.... Caffe India forced every preconceived notion i have ever had right outta my mind. i would love to go again and eat in... once i have local friends... or visitors from the bay... love the place. and will definately stop in for take away after a long day at the office and an even longer seeming commute from manhattan. go. go. go. to caffe india... you won't be disappointed.

  • Manish J.

this may be the worst indian food on the planet - all of the spices used are powder - not the real deal - the food does not taste authentic. i usually get the same dishes at indian restaurants and this place's chicken tikka masala is not good.

    (1)
  • Rich H.

Consistenly delicious dinner. Served hot and fresh, with fresh roti. Only had the lunch buffet once and very hesitant to try again; it was all very mild (nothing spicy), luke warm, and no fresh roti. The place is never busy, but I love dinner there.

    (4)
  • Campo W.

Quality is way down, i ask for indian spicy, feels pretty mild. You know why it gets 2 stars even though ive been here a few times? Whole foods just opened up this week, they have indian at their buffet selection that is as good. And trust me the whole foods indian only passes as decent, but its cheaper than this over priced placed! Yes, can you beleive that? Seving for serving whole foods buffet is cheaper, when you re dumb enough to price yourselves higher than whole foods with walmart quality, you have something coming to ya. I dont even like whole foods theyre just across the street. Naan is still good, you cant be an indian restaurant and mess nann up, now can you?

  • Kirsten H.

After discovering that Mehndi was closed for a private event, I yelped other Indian restaurants nearby and happened upon Caffe India. Despite being there at peak lunch hours, we were the only people in the restaurant. The food was nearly tasteless, the décor was outdated, and the restaurant did not feel clean. I would not go back, nor would I recommend it to others looking for tasty Indian food in Morristown.

    (1)
  • Pei P.

$11pp for lunch buffet and they offer a pretty solid variety of the basic dishes. Only thing I wish was better was that the chicken masala should be a bit heartier with more chicken. Quiet little spot that's much better priced that the indian spots around the neighborhood.

The best Indian food I've ever had! Try the chicken dhaniwal or the Chana masala! The service is excellent and ambiance very soothing. The prices were quite reasonable.

Caffe India is seriously my favorite. I grew up coming here (when it was Chand Palace, before it had moved) and as an adult, it has been my go-to place for Indian take out. They even delivered to my workplace in Madison! Whether you dine in or take out, you will always get excellent service and always chow down on excellent food.

Its always hard to rate Indian food in America ./ without sounding like a snob you just cant be the good old English curries. However that being said I am always down for one and especially when I get together with an old English pal , hence Morristown. This place is pretty traditional in décor , but wait its BYOB , boom ! We crack open out beers knowing its gonna be a cheap evening . Ordered the onion bhaji to start which was pretty dam good and a hefty portion . For entrees we shared a chicken tikka masala and lamb passanda . Both were great and cooked perfectly . no complaints .. The cherry naan on the side was delish ... food 3 stars with extra star for the BYOB !

    (4)
  • Geet M.

It's okay...BYOB (plus), food/service is ok, parking is not an issue in this area (plus), decor is nice (plus) On the better end for Indian food in Morristown and will work if you're craving Indian food. Dishes come with rice (an absurd thing to list as a plus but in Morristown, there's a few that charge extra)

I've only been to Caffe India for dinner and take-out, but would bet their buffet is worthwhile because I adore their food. Caffe India is a great place for dinner for a romantic night out or to take a group. The food is delicious, the bill is reasonable because it is BYOB, they refill your water all the time, and, for reasons unknown to me, it is not often busy! Pakora appetizers are fried golden with a plum sauce. I prefer the vegetable samosa to the meat samosa as I enjoy the spices. While living in town, I had the habit of ordering Paneer Makhani or Malai Kofta once a week. We also regularly ordered Saag Paneer, Rogan Josh, and Chef Special Chicken. Spiciness is not too hot, unless you request it that way. Best, is that rice is not an extra charge like it is at other restaurants in town.

Lunch is a buffet adventure of chicken, chickpea and vegetable selections in DELICIOUS sauces for just $11! Caffe India adds Tandoor chicken, deep-fried veggies, naan, rice, fresh salad and all the required sauces. At lunch there were also two desserts, a mango pudding and a rice pudding. But for you protein lovers there's no lamb, no beef and no seafood at lunch, just chicken. Two highlights for me: first the Tandoor-oven prepared chicken, which was succulent and juicy on the inside, deeply red on the outside, absolutely perfect; but surprising to me it had absolutely no spice or heat, someone's leaving something out. And second the vegetable korma, which was various lightly cooked veg in a bust-the-diet curry sauce rich in cream and butter, I could eat this over their rice all day. I like the spinach (sag paneer) too, and the chicken chilly (yes spelled with a 'y') was a stir-fry served on a huge platter. Yogurt raita was perfect, I want to put it on everything, or at least everything that I didn't put chutney or tandoor sauce on already :) I have no idea what sauce is traditionally combined with which foods, gotta learn that on my next visit! Interior is hushed quiet, classy with tablecloths and cloth napkins, this is a perfect place for an adult conversation. Service at buffet time was modest but perfect, refilled water and took plates when needed. Run by Punjabs, they tell me. BYO.

Really quite good. Attentive service. Don't be deterred by the facade; the inside is quite nice. Clean and cozy ambiance. Chicken Tikka Masala was excellent and comes in a good sized portion. Chai masala deliciously spiced- make sure to have that if you are a chai fan. We like this much better than Mendhi, the other nearby Indian restaurant.

I love this little gem! It's always quiet and not too busy.Great food and service and they accommodated a group of 10 us with no problems.

  • Cee H.

Very disappointed in this place..... I've definitely had much better. We had samosas, they were ok... nothing special. The Lamb Rogan Josh was unnaturally thick, like it was thickened with guar gum or cornstarch... and not cream. The lamb was tender but kind of dry. The Biyrani was average... I can make better biyrani. Bottom-line, it's cheap and it's fine if you're hungry and craving Indian.... and you have no other choices :)

I've had chicken tikka masala at many places and never have I been given anything this bad. There was a few pieces of chicken sitting in an extra watery orange sauce with a thick layer of oil on top. It tasted as bad as it looked and our order came with one serving of rice to share even though we ordered two dishes. I have never in my life asked for a refund on food, today will be the first time.

Truly a 5 star!! Best indian food in New Jersey. Food is always great, perfectly prepared and seasoned. Staff is always polite and welcoming. They love to give recommendations in foods I wouldn't usually order... And they are always amazing. Atmosphere is casual and intimate. A little cold inside sometimes... But nothing. A sweater can't fix!

The chicken tikka masala tasted like velveeta cheese. It was also really thick like melted velveeta. Naan was kinda hard and burnt. Service was not friendly.

OK, I'm done with this place. Get some decent Indian food, Morristown. $40+ for takeout. $18.95 for FIVE MEASLY tandoori shrimp that weren't good at all (I only ate some bc they were pretty gross and not too fresh tasting): fake tandoori seasoning that was adhered on in a batter, not the slow-roasted paste you should get. Clay oven, my ass. Also got aloo paratha that was just naan with some caraway seeds, no potatoes. Chicken biryiani was decent but for $14.95?!? This place is just coasting.

Yum, just had dinner here last night. Suffice it to say, I am somewhat embarrassed that despite having grown up in a town known as little India, I never tried Indian food until I ventured out into another state for college. I'm trying to make up for lost time though, because Indian food is (surprise!) pretty darn tootin' good. I've been here twice and each time we've ordered the "Special Combination for Two," which is a sweet deal ($41.95) for a wide variety of dishes. It starts off with a plate of papadum (which I can't seem to get enough of - so good!) paired with two chutneys and a round of mulligatawny soup. The main dishes include seekh kebab, malai kebab, chicken tikka masala, lamb rogan josh, and vegetable korma. It all comes with a huge platter of basmati rice and warm, buttery naan. Yes. You will be in a food coma by the end. It's well worth it!

This place could easily be 4 stars. Ask them to go light on the salt and you have a winner.

Very solid Indian fare, decent atmosphere, BYOB. Located a few blocks from the Green, Caffe India is a very solid Indian restaurant offering quality general fare. I've eaten here once and have gotten take out 3 times - been happy each time with the quality. Generally, I get the Lamb Rogan Josh - nice and juicy lamb, great sauce, tasty naan&kulcha, all around it's a winner. The Onion Kulcha itself is really interesting and tasty, definitely a nice twist from normal naan purchases. When eating here, it felt like a very family-type Indian restaurant - families, couples, it's pretty basic. But it is nice and will do the job for a date, especially as it is BYOB. Good bang for the buck as well, especially as other Indian in the area has started to rub me the wrong way. If you like classic quality Indian fare, drop on by Caffe India.

Good food and not a bad setting. The Gulab jamun was delicious!!! From the outside at first it didnt quite look inviting, but we were pleasantly surprised after going in. Easy to find parking. Going back again definitely!

I am an avid reader of reviews but I have never posted one before. I went to this restaurant with a party of 4. My husband handed our waiter our credit card and requested our check. Instead of bringing our itemized check, they brought a check which was over a hundred dollars. Since this is byob and we had a few vegetarian entrees, this seemed high so we requested the itemization. A few different waiters came over and tried to grab the signed check where my husband had already added a 20 percent gratuity. We held back the receipt and kindly asked each one of them for the itemized breakdown. When it finally came, they had already added gratuity to our original bill!!! This is why the bill was so high already! No one mentioned this to us and there were only 4 of us!!!! If you go to the restaurant, I would recommend paying cash and looking at your bill closely. The way that they reacted when we asked for the breakdown made it apparent to us that misleading us (and looking for a double tip with 4 people) was very intentional.

Ate here last minute on a Saturday night. Had the combination dinner for 2 which included Mulligatawny soup, papadum, seekh kebab, malai kebab, chicken tikka, lamb rogan josh, vegetable korma, rice and naan bread. The Mulligatawny soup which was very good with fresh cilantro and a fresh lemon slice topped it off. Everything was very good and the korma was especially good. Service was OK. Will be going back.

We love Caffe India! Their food is consistently good, no matter what we order. We've eaten there a good 50+ times and never had a bad meal. Anyone we introduce to them loves them. Most of the time we do takeout. When we first discovered them, we were hooked and ordered once a week. Now we still go once every 2 to 3 weeks. Takeout portions seem more generous than those when eating in - I usually get 2 meals from the various chicken dishes I'll get. The chicken vindaloo and chicken tikka masala are our go-to's and excellent every time. Best naan I've had. Watch out for the garlic naan - it's strong! We've eaten in the restaurant 4 or 5 times. It's quiet and relaxed. Mostly dinners with friends, and once for the lunch buffet during the week. We went towards the end so pickings were slim, but it was tasty regardless.

got food poisoning from dinner here two nights ago. the food tasted OK when it was brought to the table, though i found the taste to be acceptable I ordered the chicken tikka masala & chana masala - when compared to what i'm accustomed to from indian restaurants I've already visited. I don't plan on returning - I'd be very wary of this place, and its cleanliness.

Excellent Restaurant! The restaurant itself it really nice and quiet, great ambiance even on a Friday evening! The food was scrumptious and the service wonderful. Every dish we ordered was great-- I forgot what we ordered was called but it was a sampler for 2 with a couple appys and entrees for ~$40. A solid restaurant that now bumps my previous fav Indian restaurant for the #1 spot.

I can't believe I love Indian food now. How did this happen? A year ago, if you'd suggested we get Indian for dinner I would have laughed in your face, insulted your mother, and set you on fire. But I guess my tastes and my temperament have changed because, um, yum! The fiancée and I went to Caffe India on Saturday evening and it was delightful. It's a very pleasing restaurant. The booths are comfortable and the general mood/feel of the place is reserved. The waiters and hostess are all friendly. Though they didn't speak to us much, they smiled a lot and our water glasses were never empty, which is always a necessity when chowing on some hot Indian spices. We had the chicken tikka masala, rogan josh, daal makhani, and garlic naan. The portions were not as big as the two other Indian restaurants I've been to, but I was glad for it. Smaller portions here mean you must savor the limited flavors all the more. The chicken tikka masala was cooked well in the tandoor oven and the medium spice had an alarming but joyous kick to it. The rogan josh (lamb) was a venture on my part. So glad I sallied forth! The lamb chunks are "marinated in Eastern spices, and sautéed with chopped tomatoes in a creamy sauce." This sauce is unbelievable. The fiancée heartily agreed that the sauce that comes with the rogan josh is worth the trip to Caffe India alone. The daal makhani and garlic naan were excellent as well and when everything is mixed together with the delicious rice, well, you just gotta enjoy. The food did take a little longer than we expected for it to come out but it was nothing worth complaining about. We were both just so hungry going in that it probably felt longer than it actually was. Caffe India also has a lunch buffet and some day soon, I'm totally gonna hit that! The prices are very reasonable for both dinner and lunch. Dhanyavad!

north indian cuisine. It was my first visit, all the dishes we ordered were tasty, paneer tikka / naans and kulcha / veg jalfrezi / malai kofta but the amount on the bill was definitely unsavory. it is an eater's market for good indian food in north jersey, and in this case it is not worth the extra $3-5 per dish. also, the portion sizes were rather small. a horrendous type of bollywood-muzak played in the background. ps. watch out for the 18% auto-gratuity.

I highly recommend the vegetarian combo. Reasonable Morristown dinner prices that include rice.

Cafe India has extraordinary Indian cuisine. If you're craving something flavorful, this place will not disappoint. If you want something spicy, ask for it "Indian hot". I took two Indian friends here and they said it was rather authentic and that they hadn't had such great food in a long time... Now the buffet is pretty good, not nearly as amazing as the specials on the menu. The rice pudding is phenomenal, the ghost kadai (chicken or lamb) is delectable and I LOVE THIS PLACE. I always enjoyed Indian food but this place turned me into a believer...I eat here twice a week:)

I want to give 2 1/2 stars. This place is OK if you have a hankering for Indian food and don't want to drive to Parsippany. It's probably the best in town but that's not saying much. We've had takeout that was decent and we've ordered some decent entrees. The buffet was cold and pretty bland when we went. If you can, drive a little and you'll find something much better.
