This was my first visit to court in Elizabeth in a long time, so I arrived early to deal with traffic and parking. Neither was really a problem, so now I needed a place to hang out while waiting for court to open. This part of Broad Street did not look to offer many options, but as I walked along I noticed a yellow storefront with the sign above it, "La Tipica." Opening the door, I saw Fernando doing some paperwork at the counter. He greeted me with "Buenas Dias," and I sat down on one of the stools near where he worked. This was a Columbian house, so the first thing I asked for was a large coffee with milk. I received a Café con Leche that was some of the best Joe I have had in a long time. Amazing what warm milk adds to the sabor of quality Java. I savored it for a few minutes before deciding what to eat. Looking around I saw several interesting possibilities, and decided on the Pan de Queso (Cheese Bread). It was the size of a dinner roll, but the inner texture was moist, sticky and spongy. The taste was mildly sweet, with a soft White Cheese flavor. It was not heavy as I suspected it might be, but actually light and airy. It went great with good coffee. Hopefully, I will have the chance to return to La Tipica for a longer exploration of their breakfast and lunch menu. The space is bright, cheery, and has colorful murals on their walls. The friendliness of Fernando as we conversed in Spanglish gave me an immediate warm connection to the place that will delight me to renew.
