This is a new restaurant that just opened up in the last month. It is a brand new renovation of an old building which had been abandoned for many years, and it was an eye sore in my neighborhood. Hence, I was very excited to see that finally a new restaurant would open up here. I pass by this location every day on my way to work and I have been watching them rebuild it for many months, so I was very excited to finally be able to try it. Alas, my anticipation and hype was somewhat overrated: Location: The building itself is beautifully renovated, very modern and aesthetically pleasing. The atmosphere looks relaxed, even romantic and the background music is traditional Middle Eastern. Ample parking is available in their lot. Food: The food is the typical Middle Eastern menu as with many places in Clifton / Paterson except for a few rare dishes that you don't normally encounter in "americanized" middle eastern food....Boiled sheep's brain, tongue, and the likes. I have eaten both before, but I ordered the tongue this time to see how they prepare it. In addition, we had hummus for appetizer, arabic salad, and lamb chops for entree. The food was actually very good, served in big portions and pleasant presentation. I was pleased with the food. Service: Since this is a new place, it was practically dead when we visited. Only one other table was dining there. The server was somewhat awkward in welcoming us, seating us, taking our order, and took a long time to bring drinks and the appetizers. Entrees took even longer to come. There are no alcoholic beverages being served which left me questioning the "lounge" part of their title, but we saw the other party having beers so I assume it's a BYOB place. Anyway, I accept the slow service as part of the startup difficulties but service definitely needs improvement. SMOKING!!! : They allowed the other party to smoke inside the premises, right at their table, and boy did they do! A whole party of chain smokers which left us gasping for air. Towards the end of our dinner, another group of men showed up, apparently friends of the owner, they got seated and sure enough started chain smoking and drinking at their table too! I actually had to run to the store after dinner and buy Febreeze to heavily spray on my coat and clothes. Even the owner/manager was chain smoking in the back table. I'm pretty sure it's a violation that they choose to ignore for their Ethnic compatriots. Restrooms: Very nice restrooms as the rest of the building, but poorly maintained with paper towels all over the floor and counter top, as well as cigarette butts in the trash, and even in the urinals! I guess their employees smoke indoors too. Bottom line is that I was rooting for this place to do well because it's a revitalized location of a former eyesore, but I hope they clean up their act and take customer service to heart. The food is great but they have to improve service, cleanliness and seriously stop their indoor smoking policy if they want to do well. Perhaps they only care about attracting and pleasing other Middle Eastern clientele, in which case I do not plan on returning.

Horrible!!!!! Instant smell of smoke upon entry. I see that it's a hookah spot, but cigarettes are unacceptable. Super slow service. Especially on a weekday. And the food is not worth a return visit.

Do I have to give it a star. It's worth no stars. My friend had a restaurant.com coupon so we decided let's try it. My first impression of this restaurant was it is a catering hall. They had about 100 tables and they had numbers on them making it look like a catering hall. My second impression is this place is big and they had more large tables then small. My friend and I decided to set at a four top. The waiter came over and spoke very little English. We decided for our starters will be hummus and fried calamari. The hummus to me tasted a little burnt and the calamari were very overcooked. For my entrée I decided on the Shish tawook and my friend decided on the whole chicken. The waiter came over to tell us that the whole chicken would take about 30 minutes and if that was okay. We told him it was. While we were waiting for our food, I smelt smoke and realized that this restaurant was also a hookah lounge. If I had known that before we entered the restaurant I would never have gone. So we decided to stay, big mistake. My entrée was okay. The chicken tasted very coalish (not sure if that is a real word) and my friends whole chicken was a little burnt on top and it was not fully cooked. So my friend asked the waiter for a menu so that she can pick something else because she knew that if they continue to cook the chicken it would be hard as a rock and uneatable. So the waiter took her plate and told us that he would be back shortly. Well he did with the same whole chicken. Then my friend told the waiter that this was uneatable and to get her a menu so that she can pick something else. She decided on the falafel and kibbeh balls. When the waiter brought out the falafel and kibbeh, he told us this was on the house. When they came out they were so greasy. So we asked for the check and could not wait to see what was on it. They charged us for the whole chicken but they did not charge us for the falafel or kibbeh balls. Never going back.

I have been to this place three times, coincidentally each time for a Christening, and have developed a clear and concise opinion on it overall: Food: The first two times, the food came out consistently appetizing and I never had a problem with staying full and satisfied. (The apps are served like tapas and the main course is served family style.) Atmosphere: I'm from a big, loud Middle Eastern family so growing up with music blasting until my ear drums were ringing and having my clothes reek of hookah smoke was nothing short of the norm to me. I've had my fair share of Middle Eastern lounge restaurants and this one is pretty decent, despite its small size.. Service: In the food category I did not mention my experience with the food on the third visit because well, it's a result of the terrible terrible service we got! Like I said earlier, on the first two visits, every was well organized and clean and well-presented and the servers were on point, so nothing bad can come out of the third trip, right? Wrong. I was attending a Christening reception there for my uncle's twins that held over 100 people. That's not the big deal though; the big deal was how unorganized everything became throughout the course of the night! The apps were not bad--the main course was just wrong. It usually consists of a platter of ground beef kabobs and chicken skewers served over rice with a side of grilled tomatoes and a lovely little garlic mayonnaise concoction that makes your mouth sing when atop the meat. What my table actually received were three sad platters of food that had over salted chicken on two of them and the other one under salted chicken, very few pieces of kabob that can feed the 15 people at the table (The one good piece I fished out was literally mutilated on one side), and only one garlic mayo for the whole table! (served in a tiny black cup). After getting through the dinner (which was served late at 9pm--the party started at 5pm) and the always adorable cutting of the cake by the babies' family, I was disappointed to see that the serving of the cake slices to the tables were no different than that of the main course earlier..literally I witnessed the manager rushing to serve everyone by tossing the cake onto the plates without taking notice if it was half dangling off.. Which leads me to my point!!! This was basically a case of horrible mismanagement by the manager who had ONE chef working that night which explained why everything took forever to come out and wasn't even that good!!! The idea is that if you want to host your next party here, go right ahead. Just make sure that YOU have the manager under control!
