We stopped here for dinner while on a cross country road trip. The staff was friendly although we were warned that our server was in training, which she promptly confirmed with lack of basic serving skills but no biggie (hey, we're on vacation). Our food was good. We got sirloin which was well prepared and tasty. The soup and salad bar was good. Easy access from I80. I would recommend this place for a break from fast food or truck stop fare.

Seemed like a nice place and maybe I went in on an off day. Ordered the special (chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes). Companion went for the soup and salad bar. She was satisfied with her choice. My plate came out and the steak was hot and so-so. However, the potatoes and gravy were ice cold. Since I had just asked the server for extra napkins prior to discovering the temperature of the potatoes, I waited patiently for her return. And I waited. And I waited. When my companion finished eating, I waited a bit more before taking my plate to the front register to ask for my check sans the special. They obliged me and were apologetic, though the server continued to ignore me as I explained the situation.

Mediocre food with service to match. Sunday morning we arrived looking for a hearty Midwest style breakfast. They offered a breakfast buffet but failed to say it would end less than 10 minutes after we ordered it. They then told us that if we ate anything from the BRUNCH buffet, we would be charged an additional $5. Fortunately, we aren't huge eaters and one pad through the buffet was enough, especially given that most of the food was barely warm and dried out. Very disappointing. The service was poor and uncaring. Overall, not a good experience. Not recommended :(

Having read the reviews on this restaurant, I decided to take my wife and kids here during our visit to York. I ordered the Husker Burger, which was a huge beef patty, sliced ham, bacon and swiss cheese. Once my meal arrived, the burger itself had been way overcooked. Granted, I don't want it to moo back at me, but this had been cooked so long it was completely dry. The ham that was on the sandwich had delicious flavor to it. They have an amazing idea for a burger, it was just dry. The service here was very attentive, and we had average wait times on our food.

The service was great. The salad bar was average size but good. The chicken and rice soup was yummy. But the part that was the best was the burger. HUGE hand made burger! I should have skipped the soup and salad bar. The onion rings were delicious, hand cut and hand dipped. Nice peppery taste in the back of your throat. If you are on hour way through York, you have to stop here!

A standard diner with a great fresh salad an soup bar. Really excellent staff with quick service, even offered sodas to-go! A great option for a quick lunch stop to stretch your legs while driving across Nebraska!

This location used to be a Country Kitchen Restaurant, but it is now The Kitchen Restaurant. My husband and I stopped in here very early (6:45am) on a Sunday morning to escape the treacherous wintry conditions on highway 80. We were delighted to find out it was open. It was clean, warm, and seemed very cozy. We each ordered some breakfast, not expecting much. To our great surprise the food smelled great and tasted delicious. You could tell the restaurant used quality ingredients. My eggs were perfectly basted, and the ham was very good. My husband had no complaints about his egg white Denver omelette or his hash browns. But we both flipped over the pancakes (every pun intended). They were awesome. The guy waiting on us, not sure if he was the manager or not, was great - friendly, helpful, kept our drinks topped us, and let us know we could sit there as long as we wanted while we were trying to figure out whether to press on through the snow and ice or head back home. Anyway, when we were ready to leave we asked for a to-go box for our left over pancakes, they were that good. The guy told us it took them 13 months to come up with the recipe. Well worth the effort. They were even tasty cold on our drive back home. Would we go back if we were passing through again - you bet!

I was traveling through Nebraska with my children and when I saw "The Kitchen", I thought good home cookin'. Instead it was small portions of decent food that is over priced. The restaurant is clean and the staff was friendly, however, that being said my opinion went down from there as we all walked away hungry. I ordered my son the mini corn dogs off the kids menu...we were charged over $5 (which is high for a kids menu item) and he received 5 mini corn dogs and a prepackaged "flavored" (which wasn't yummy) applesauce (the meal as a whole would have been worth $.40 retail). That would have been enough to fill a 4 year old, but not a 9 year old. The kid was starving when he was finished. So I shared my toast and then ordered a side of fries for him as well (which funny enough cost $.99 and had more to it than his entire meal). My 11 year old wanted fettuccine alfredo off the adult menu which cost us $7.99, and it was a kid portion, she was also still hungry and ate the additional fries as well. Her food and pita bread were yummy, she just didn't get enough to make a meal. I ordered a skillet (thinking I'm getting something like I would at Denny's)...mine was about 1/3 of a portion I would get there or Village Inn and I paid $8.99. Unless you want an overpriced snack, keep driving...

Great prices, great food, and friendly staff. We have never had a bad thing to say about this locally owned restaurant and know one of the managers very well. Great chicken fried steak, which is usually how I gauge a restaurant. They have always been able to accommodate our "parties" when we have family in town.

Driving from Denver to Chicago and stopped in York overnight. Needed a yummy breakfast and stumbled in. What a yummy clean and super friendly place. Candy, our server was totally awesome and sweet. We had a great meal, my girl had a Parmesan Ceasar and I had the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs. We also had homemade Cinnamon roll which was delicious! Highly recommended!

We ordered take out last night while we crashed at a hotel for the night. From looking at the menu I was ready for some "down home cooking." What I got was pretty disappointing. All night I had been craving a baked potato, so my boyfriend ordered on as a side to go with his fried chicken. I reluctantly ordered the chicken Alfredo, I wasn't very hungry but knew I would be later. My in laws also ordered the fried chicken. After picking up dinner and figuring out who's was who's I was disappointed to find that they had not included the baked potato, but instead have everyone mashed potatoes. Salads were included with all of our meals, two of us ordered ranch, one Italian, and the other blue cheese. None of the dressings were labelled which led us to play the guessing game. Guess who got the blue cheese? This girl! Needless to say neither my father in law, nor myself were very pleased. My Alfredo was bland and undercooked. I should have went with my gut and solely ordered a baked potato, maybe it would have actually ended up with the order. Oh well. The fried chicken pieces were hit or miss according to everyone else with me. I'm sure the food is of much better quality if you dine in.

The food is much better than the fast food that is otherwise available at this exit. Unfortunately the service is incredibly slow. Only come here if you have a lot of time to kill.

Stopped here and decided to give this a shot over the recommended eatery in town as it was pretty close to the interstate and and had some decent reviews. Place was pretty full, but we were seated immediately. The friendly hostess took our drink orders and said the server would be with us soon. The server came and took our orders and wanted to be anywhere but at work on this evening. Taking our order really seemed like a chore. Put the orders in and waited quite a while for our soup and salads to come. Soup was average, salads looked average. Took quite a bit longer for our food to arrive. I ordered this chicken with cheese and BBQ sauce concoction that sounded pretty decadent on the menu. Bland bbq sauce, with a bit of cheese covered two dry chicken breasts. This was served with a baked potato that was not hot, not served in tin foil, and kind of dry. Corn was mixed with tomatoes for some reason, and just not edible. My two other companions did not enjoy their meals either and the common word used was "dry". The experience with server never got any better either. Walking out I heard a server and a cook arguing loudly, which could easily be heard throughout much of the dining room. This is obviously a place that locals like, but if you are driving through town-you may want to try another option.

I had a great breakfast here. It was very hardy. Service is good. We both ordered omelets . It was a huge plate of food. Hot coffee carafe left on table. I would stop here again. The people who leave negative reviews must be idiots. What do you expect in the middle of Nebraska a gourmet French restaurant.

I stopped in for breakfast Saturday morning and was pleasantly surprised Denver omelet was delicious made with guality fresh ingredients My waitress Casey was very nice l can't figure out why other commenters had issues Another gal I assume is a supervisor stopped twice to ask how I was doing and about my meal I won't hesitate to recommend this establishment to friends I'll personally will be back as my travels allow Trucker Steve

Stopped here for a quick bite before hitting the road towards home. The salad bar lacked so much. No cheese for the chili or potato soup, no cucumbers and no tomatoes. There are only two choices of salad dressing, ranch and french. I ordered the French dip with fries and iced tea. Let me say the iced tea was the best thing from the whole meal. The fries were decent but they tasted like the ones from McDonalds. The French dip description on the menu says it's made with beef round. What I got was not beef round. It was prime rib roast and extremely fatty. I ended up pulling my sandwich apart and cutting all the fat off. By the time I was done, I was lucky to have a full slice of meat. Disgusting! The au jus that came with it had a layer of grease on it and absolutely no flavor. My fiance got the prime rib sandwich and loved it. I have to say, that if we come back through here again, we will make sure not to come back to this place. Not worth it unless you like greasy, fatty food and limited choices on salad.
