We come here on a regular basis and we're disappointed this time around. Service was slow and the Italian sub was weak. It was 9 small pieces of Italian sausage (the same crumbled kind they put on the pizza) with some ham. According to the menu, it was supposed to have tomato slices (plural) on it. I asked for no cheese and it came out meh. Upon telling our waitress, who was apologetic, brought some lettuce, onions and tomato (one small slice) out to put on the sandwich. I hope this was just a fluke because we love coming here.

First of all, the server behind the bar wasn't too keen on serving us. She was more focused on her friend a few chairs down the bar. She only talked to us to take the order, drop off the food and to give us the check. I had the meatball sandwich, which had almost no sauce. I asked for more and found out later I was charged for it. Serve someone a dry sandwich and charge them for the sauce that was left off of it? Uncool. If nature calls while you're here, let it go to voicemail. The bathroom smelled awful and the toilet paper was on the floor

I have to say that this dining was an experience in mediocrity. A nice and well-meaning server forgot the appetizer of boneless wings. My date found the antipasto less than satisfying and a rather boring dish. The location is great on the corner of 49th and Dodge, but the less than stellar cuisine combined with poor service makes for an underwhelming overall experience.

Two words. Taco - Pizza. It must be a Midwest thing because taco pizza is impossible to find elsewhere. I grew up loving taco pizza so when I saw it on the menu it was a no brainer. We weren't even that hungry but we ordered a small taco and a small pepperoni and green olive pizza. The pepp and green olive is pretty straight forward. Good crust, great sauce, topping ratio was perfect and the bake was right on. Home run. The taco pizza hit the spot. Taco seasoned ground beef pizza topped with lettuce, tomato, black olive, corn chips and cheddar cheese after it's cooked. They serve it with a side of sour cream and picante sauce. My only complaint is I'm pretty sure it was Pace picante.

I would say that my experience at Varsity in on par with other diners. I wanted to try they gluten free pizza, and I do think they have one of the best GF crusts in Omaha. I am very grateful for this option. The server was very knowledgeable on which toppings and sauces were GF. We ordered a philly pizza and taco pizza. The Philly was good but nothing to write home about. I love a good taco pizza, and this one was acceptable. They were conservative in the amount of chips on the top, the best part of a taco pizza. This is no Happy Joe's taco pizza. Kudos to you if you know what I'm talking about! The service started out good but was really slow at the end. I took our server 5 mins to scan the pinpoint card. The atmosphere is fun, location is good, and TVs make it a good place to watch sports. If I go back, I will try the Thai pizza.

I'm rating this based off my most recent experience. My partner and I walked in the restaurant. The sign said, "seat yourself" so we did. And waited. And waited. A waitress walked by and said nothing. A manager walked by and said nothing. I mean sure, we could have flagged someone down, but I guess I didn't feel like we should have to. So after about ten minutes, we left. Oh also there were screaming children so that was cool. Varsity I love your pizza but WTF?

We met up with some High School friends for lunch, pizza and some micro brew...not bad, we all enjoyed it. (the no left turn sucks though)

Go here for drinks. Good tap selection with a stocked full bar. The nachos were so-so. Poor late night choice. Clean atmosphere, friendly staff and a good location near Dundee. Tons of TVs for sports and they also have keno.

The deep dish pizza wasn't bad but it wasn't exactly Chicago deep dish. The same cannot be said for the nachos. The chips had a weird seasoning and ground beef was dry. The place looks awesome while driving by it on Dodge and the location is good but the layout is awkward. The place is surprisingly loud and its difficult to have a conversation. I'll probably go back but I'll stick to the pizza.

This is going to be a short and sweet review since it's from my phone, but I seriously need to revise my last review. This place is frustrating. I love their location. I love their atmosphere. I love to gorge myself on their pizza and wings.... With that said... The service is consistently the worst I've ever had. I've received the wrong "wing count" at least five times. I've sat down with a friend in here when it was empty without getting talked to for +25 minutes. I've sat after a meal waiting for my ticket for over 35 minutes. When I go to the bathroom, I walk by where the waiters and waitresses stand, only to see them texting. I'm usually not one to say anything to the staff if something is wrong (no one wants to be "that guy"), but it happens so much here that I have spoken up the last few times. Usually, if a customer is disgruntled, management comes out and apologizes (and in some of the more friendlier places offers to comp their meals). I still have yet to see any changes. I come here on average once every 15 days. If I was a manager, I would absolutely want to know if my employees were slacking (that's putting it nicely). This restaurant doesn't represent the Dundee neighborhood very well I'm my opinion. Look at Amsterdam, Mark's Bistro, the Dell, Cork & Bottle, Great Harvest Co, Dundee Bank, and every other place in Dundee. What do they have in common? Incredibly friendly staff!!! If you're even a semi regular at any Dundee store, you know exactly what I'm talking about. First name basis, lightning fast response time, etc... Varsity Cafe seriously gets an F in my book and judging by other reviews, I'm not the only one. The food, location, and atmosphere all get A's. I'll continue to be a regular here, although, I'm not sure why. This isn't the best pizza in town, or anywhere near it. I just for some reason love watching football here. If you like wings or pizza while watching sports games on great TV's and don't mind atrocious service, this place is for you. *exhales after wanting to write this review for months*

Their menu has a very good variety. However, this seems to lead to lack of quality in what is put out. The ham and cheese I had was run through a pizza conveyor leading to the hoagie size hotdog bun being overdone and dried out. Ham was dried out due to heating process.

This is one of the best pizza's I've had in Omaha to date! I'm really excited! The crust was pretty good, on the thinner side and just enough crunch to hold up the yummy, nice and tangy sauce. Pretty good amount of toppings, We ordered pepperoni and sausage. The sausage was interesting, it just needed a little more sausagey-ness, could have been a little more dense and spicier, it was a little too hamburger-ey. The pepperoni was very tasty. I was very happy and excited to find this pizza! It didn't taste that good leftover, but that's ok, I can't dislike pizza because it doesn't taste good cold the next day, that's just a weird personal infatuation.

Our waitress was super! The burger was great! But what in the world is the smell when you walk in the door? CLEAN THE PLACE, as Jon Taffer would say! I know the smell of a dirty bar! And the smell of the bathrooms lofting through the place didn't help. The onion rings are a waste of money at $8.45! Beer batter...yea frozen Sysco or Code run of the mill $3.95 per order onion rings and the special sauce they give you with it is terrible. Or is that how dishwater is supposed to taste? Generic ketchup in Heinz knockoff bottles and Guldens mustard! WOW! Strike 3 there! Heinz Ketchup and Frenches Mustard! But if the 4 names on the menu want people to keep coming to that location, I suggest they hire some professionals to teach their staff as to how to clean a bar properly! Seriously people, you have a wonderful bar here and you appear to simply let it run itself into the ground at this rate. I'd be ashamed if my business smelt like that! I won't be back to their establishments if this is any sign of how they don't keep their places clean! Sorry to be so harsh, but someone had to sound off on this stinker! ATTENTION OWNERS: Show me you cleaned the place and made it smell nice and fresh like food and not stinky soured bar and smelly toilets and I'll re-review you and see how well you improved and brag on it if you did! Don't make me sic Jon Taffer on you!

The food is good. The service is lackluster. It doesn't seem like they are staffed well enough to cover every customer. Get the mozzarella breadsticks! Or really, any of the appetizers. They also have a nice size patio for the area. We've brought our dog a couple times, and the staff has been okay with him sticking around outside. Prices are comparable.

This place has the worst service of any restaurant I have been to. It took us 20 minutes to get drinks, another 20 to get our order taken. When she finally brought our food she brought our appetizer at the same time as two cheeseburgers (for a party of 3) and asked me if I wanted a plate....I said no I ordered a salad. She had completely forgot! She then attempted to make up for it by brining me a side salad on the house and I declined. When asked if we could have a discount she took a whole 2 dollars off our $45 bill. Never going back!!

I stopped in here for lunch. It had pretty nice lunch special for $8.50 that included a personal pizza, salad and soda. I just got plain pepperoni. It was pretty good, though there are a number of other places in town that I think do better than this. The salad was kinda sad looking, but fairly standard for a pizza joint. Still not too bad. The server was friendly and they have a patio which was my selling point so I could soak up the vitamin D on my lunch break! I would eat here again and maybe split a more adventurous pizza with some friends and maybe see how their wings are.

Not really a place we go to for a meal... But I've feel compelled to eat eventually when we've occupied a table for 3+ hours on a couple Sundays this season. NFL Sunday ticket is a big draw here and there's usually a pretty fun & diverse crowd of fans. Plenty of Packers fans, which is always a plus. And the drinks flow freely and speedily (this is also where I fell in love with Oliver's cider!) But as for food, nothing has really excited me. We've tried wings, cheese sticks, pizzas, sandies... And the first thing I was actually excited about was the Thai pizza we had this past week. A little different maybe than what you'd expect, but the peanut sauce made it pretty darn good. A fine place for Sunday football, and sports action in Dundee. Piano player on Friday nights too, unless Creighton basketball is on.

Cleanliness 3 Service 3 Food 2 Likelihood 3 Environmentally Friendly 3 OVERALL SCORE 2.8 We arrived just after 8pm, dinner for three please. We had a hard time choosing a table, most where not cleaned. We selected the cleanest of the dirty high tops and waited for it to be cleaned up. Our sever started out very strong and on top of the game. We ordered an appetizer. Our drinks were refilled and after a bit of time I asked about our appetizer. She said she would check. A few more minutes she brought most of our dinner out, no appetizer and not all the food was brought. The appetizer and rest of the order was brought several minutes later (about 6-8) Refills and attentiveness then started to slack. We got refills from bartender. I used the restroom, and it had not been serviced/cleaned for a while. It was the dirtiest I have ever observed. I am normally a HUGE fan of this place. I caught them not at their best. I didn't see a manager. No one apologized for the delay or poor service. We tipped 10% as opposed to 20-25% I will be mindful of our next visit. This was disappointing. I hope they get it together!

Stopped in here for lunch today....had a bacon cheeseburger and a side of onion rings...the bartender was very friendly and I enjoyed the burger...the fixins come on the side so that's nice, and when I requested mayo it was brought out very quickly...The decor is exactly what you'd expect from a sports bar/cafe...the menu is mostly burgers, pizza and sandwiches...Price is comparable to most other places like this...I don't know if I'll purposely come back, but if I do find myself here again, I'd enjoy trying something else off their menu...

Varsity is one of Omaha's best sports bars hands down. Some of the best pizza, wings and appetizers I've ever had! Cute location in Dundee. Only complaint I have is most nights they seem just a bit under staffed and the music or game on tv is way too loud. But hey, I guess that's a sports bar for ya.

The misses and I seated ourselves at the bar to catch a mid Sunday NFL game. We were served drink immediately, and the bartender was friendly and prompt. She got Woodchuck and I got draft beer. We ordered an appetizer and two main meals. The food took a bit but was worth it. Besides with the game going on we hardly noticed. I got the Cali burger with curly fries, it was pretty good. Fires were luke-warm. After we finished our food (her boneless wings were very good) and a couple more rounds, the game ended and we asked for our bill. Shocked to see it was only $20 thanks to happy hour we did two more rounds with our bar seat neighbors before leaving. We taught the bartender how to make chatta-balls..and they were a hit. It was what I expected from a sports bar. Nothing mind blowing, but great prices and good view of the TVs. We'll be back for the next game.

  • Bill E.

Worst experience I have ever had our waitress was nice but the entire staff couldn't get us a drink in under 20 minutes. The food I ordered was wonderful and I would recommend the Cali burger, but I won't be back to this location.

  • Kailey D.

I love their pizza, but service could be better. The last two times we have seated ourselves and waited at least 15 minutes before anyone even acknowledged we were there. Its almost like no one wants to take responsibility for the new table of people that arrived. Giving them 3 stars instead of 2 because the Tommy Boy and Tommy Girl pizza are amazing.

  • Rick P.

The food is pretty good. Throw in the fact that this is a sports bar, and you could call it really good. The kids (screaming) as one person described them: Dude, it's a pizza place! Kids are gonna come to a pizza place, get over it! Anyway, all the kids I saw on my visit were fairly well behaved although excited about the pizza (and sports)! The reason, however, that this is a 5-star review and not a 4-star one is because of the waitress I had: Michelle. Michelle was perfect. She took all of my girlfriend's somewhat high-maintenance instructions, was attentive, and in general made the experience all around better. The Redskins even managed to score some points when she stopped by! Thank you, Michelle, and thank you Varsity! Will deffo return!

Nice place, smaller than I had anticipated. Good beer selection. It seemed to take the bartender some time to warm up to me and my guest, but whatever. Pizza wasn't anything write home about, but this was more of a social calling anyway.

I'm a fan of the Dundee Area and was a little surprised to see that the local chain Varsity Sports Cafe is the new kid on the block. In my college days, I feel like VSC or Roman Coin was the rave and having never eaten their pizza, I decided to validate this myself at the newest location on 49th and Dodge! Since the word 'Varsity' is often used as an academic term, I decided to make my experience a little scientific. Please bear with me in my moment of dorkiness. Question: Is VSC yummy and worthwhile? Observations: 1. College kids love to eat the pizza here most likely in a state of intoxication while watching a sports game. 2. There are already three locations of this locally owned restaurant which could be a good sign 3. The menu looks no different than any other bar/grill Hypothesis: VSC will have average food and a two star rating from me Test: Go to VSC, eat some pizza, one other menu item and drink one beer on tap Analysis: Ok... here is where the real review comes. When I walked into the place, I was confused... you know the restaurants where you walk in and you aren't sure if you should seat yourself or not? I stood there trying to send eye signals to the waitresses for a moment as people glared at me and my lost hungry soul. Not receiving the attention I wanted, I seated myself creating another awkward position... Is someone going to come help me?? I don't mind getting food myself, but I thought it would be slightly inappropriate to do that in a restaurant. I continued to eye-stalk the waitresses and after making obvious eye contact, I was asked if I had been helped. So that's how everything started. The place was packed, but not at 100% capacity which I would say is normal for a Friday at noon. My waitress was super nice, but it was obvious that the place was understaffed. Luckily I brought something to occupy my time because I waited a long while (like Q Consumable time) for my food. I decided on the Blacken Blue Cheese Burger with smiley fries (from my childhood/adult days at Valentino's Buffet) and a personal sized pizza with onions and green peppers. The BBC burger was awesome and I kind of liked it more the Blue Cheese burger at Blanc. It was a buttered bun, good sized of ground meat, jalapeno bacon topped with the blue cheese. Here is the kicker, I think the blue cheese on top is broiled or something because it had this golden colour and was definitely cooked instead of melted. On the sides of the burger, there were fragments of cheese that escaped the j-bacon party onto the grill giving the sides this crispy cheese taste that made it more delish by a factor of 6.3!! Happy with my burger, I decided to try my pizza. First of all it was waaaaay too hot and had this been McD's I might have cried LAWSUIT! I quickly cooled my mouth down with a swig of beer and proceeded to make mad burger love to the BBC burger. I ventured back to the pizza and had a bite... Keep in mind that on other review sites, the pizza here is put on a pizza pedestal and in my opinion... those people were WRONG!! Ummm... I wasn't sure if they made me a pizza or warmed up a frozen Tostino's Party Pizza. Oh and for credibility sake, 12 for $10 Party Pizzas were my staple food from the ages of 18-20 so I KNOW my PPs ok! Anyway, I think everything from the crust, cheese and toppings were just like PP!! I looked at the crust and you can even see the small holes at the bottom which makes me think that I did not get a freshly made pizza. I'm assuming that it would be unlawful for VSC to recook/resell PPs so the only other answer would be that they make pizzas in advance and freeze them? Either way, I was not a fan. Maybe if I was intoxicated, I wouldn't be so offended, but then again I would eat a bug pizza from the floor of the Cresent Moon men's bathroom in an intoxicated state... Bottom line - SKIP THE PIZZA HERE!!!! Conclusion: The burger was awesome, but was the only thing on the menu I thought was special... everything else looks like meh bar food. The pizza?? Don't get me started... The beer... $5.50 for a draw which I think is on the high side for a place like this so minus 10 points. Also, I'm a pretty patient person so slow service never bothers me. However, I know this is a boiling point for some folks so I think it's good to mention. I want to give this place at least three stars because I really liked that burger... but I see this as a place that I would not opt to go to unless someone asked me to come and promised me I didn't have to eat the pizza. So when I go back to answer my original question, my answer...... is in the form of two stars.

We have been to the Varsity about 5 times now, my overall review is that the food is pretty good but the service is poor. There always seems to be quite the confusion on whether you should seat yourself or if done is going to seat you. After that problem is solved it regularly takes 5-10 minutes for a server to visit the table for the first time and the slow unattentive service continues throughout the visit. The Varsity has a great location and a good concept which is why we find ourselves returning at this point. The queso cheese sticks are pretty great and the Tommy Boy pizza is pretty good for a buffalo chicken pizza, could use a little more buffalo but decent. My hope is that the management wakes up and realizes the potential before the poor service closes it down.

Disappointing food and confused staff. Went here on a bustling Friday night and there was a crowd gathered by the door giving their name to a dude with a notepad who seemed uber confused about how to seat people. He didn't acknowledge our party (there were another two parties after us) so I went up to him to put our names in but lo and behold, there were a couple seats at the bar. Looking back, I'm really grateful those seats opened up because those other people were standing around for a WHILE. And there were three open tables... We ordered pizza and wings. The wings were bad, hardly any meat and overcooked. The pizza was okay, not great, and not the worst I've had in Omaha. The cheese was cheap, processed and didn't melt like cheese should. Service at the bar was good, the bartenders were extremely attentive. Overall, It was clear that this new restaurant hasn't gotten the kinks worked out. The crowd was causing more stress and confusion that they were ready to handle but maybe this is a temporary difficulty.

I can only comment on the service and drinks, as I've never experienced the food. I find the atmosphere very appealing with large flatscreen televisions and world music playing in the background. However, as others have mentioned, the service is seriously lacking. On a recent occasion, I sat for at least 10 minutes before walking out. Normally I would extend some grace during a busy Saturday lunch, but the waitress seemed a little too preoccupied with the gentlemen seated at the next table. I returned for a happy hour a short time later. Again I waited and this time watched the staff converse with each other. No one greeted me for several minutes, the happy hour specials were not explained, and my waitress was absent for most of the evening. This place could very well become my go-to neighborhood hangout, but something needs to change.

This place has shitty service. They are slow and inattentive and at times rude. A group of my friends went there for dinner and were waited on by someone named Fay who was incredibly rude and terrible. Another time, we tried ordering pizza by phone and they simply didn't answer--we called three times over a half an hour. When my friend went there to order our pizza in person, he told them that their phone wasn't being answered and they didn't apologize or make any comment about it at all. The food tastes okay, but the people who work there blow. Also, it's totally innocuous and without personality. Too bad something cooler couldn't have moved into that awesome building...looks like we're stuck with mediocrity.

Living in the Midtown area, I'm always excited when a new restaurant opens up in the hood. I had been to the Varsity several times for drinks and had a good time. I recently ate dinner here for the first time with a group of friends. We ordered several pizza's. I ordered a large meat pizza with mushrooms. While the pizza was good, they used canned mushrooms. Canned mushrooms on pizza are disgusting! Who ruins a great pizza with rubbery canned mushrooms? It totally ruined the pizza and I could barely eat it. Why not use fresh mushrooms? I mentioned this to the waitress and told her to let the kitchen know they should be using fresh mushrooms. She said the kitchen knows that already and they beg the owner all the time to use fresh mushrooms because they receive this complaint quite often. The server point blank told me the owners were too cheap to use fresh mushrooms. She even gave me the business card of the general manager and said that I should contact him directly because the staff has already complained and they have got no where. Wonder what else they are cutting corners on to save a few pennies? I'd go back for drinks, but will skip the food the next time I'm there until they can make a pizza with quality ingredients.

Keep in mind that this establishment has been opened for business less than one month at the time of this writing. It won't take long for the kinks to be worked out and for this place to be running smoothly. The prices are a bit on the high side, but it's not "pub grub". (Salad, yes. Pizza, yes. Burgers, yes. Wings... not so much.) Beer prices are average. Cocktails expensive. Be a nice bar patron and the bartenders will reward you with over-the-top service though. Management could use a refresher course in customer relations, but the staff seems to be doing their best to get it all figured out. If they get their wi-fi issues fixed, they may end up with a big lunch time crowd too. Say what you want about tradition and "the old haunts", Varsity Sports Cafe will do a lot more for Dundee than The 49er or the empty piano building ever did.

Had seen a negative review in the Omaha paper but decided to give it a shot. Really enjoyed it maybe more for the staff and ambience then the pizza. Liked being able to sit in the window and watch the happenings on Dodge. The waitresses were a lot of fun. We had wings which were ok. Nothing special but juicy. The pizza needed cooked just a little longer. Slightly doughy but good toppings. Overall Omaha pizza places need to learn there's nothing wrong with slightly burnt pizza. We'll go back.

Worst experience I have ever had our waitress was nice but the entire staff couldn't get us a drink in under 20 minutes. The food I ordered was wonderful and I would recommend the Cali burger, but I won't be back to this location.

Food was solid. Place was loud and dark for dinner- but overall the place was good. Had blue cheeseburger which was excellent and my guest had the chicken salad which was large and tasty. Will head back and try the pizza.

In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types.
