I wanted to like this, but I did not. I had the Swiss+Shroom grilled cheese. All I tasted was grease from whatever they slather on the bread. Not much flavor. Had to dip it in the mediocre, oily chunky tomato basil soup. I felt disgusting after eating there. I didn't expect gourmet, but when you specialize in one thing, it would be best if it were really good. I make extremely good grilled cheese at home, I'll stay home for the grilled cheese unless they decide to chill with the grease and increase the flavor. I gave it two stars because I was able to eat it, it wasn't bad enough to throw it out.

Decent, not amazing.. Aside from the grilled cheese donut. Probably the only thing that would keep me coming back!

So good! I had a basic 1/2 sandwich & cup creamy soup. I added hummus to my sandwich and loved it! Cant wait to create other mixtures!! The staff was great and the food was delivered to my table quickly :) Will be back with friends!!

It was not good... No flavor!! By the way they microwave your sandwiches ... It was horrible . I got the Italian with crunch and my friend got the Mac and cheese sand which ... Stay home and make your own

Chunky basil tomato soup was more like drained can of bitter garlic tomatoes served hot. Too much garlic and no basil. The BLT cheese was crumbled bacon with little cheese; not enough cheese to hold the bacon bits in place. The chicken salad was flavorless and served with slimy lettuce so we were refunded. Super nice guy helped us; manager maybe. This place won't last.

Great atmosphere. I love that they have a lot of vegan options! Food came out quick and was hot! I can't wait to take my hubby back and have his try the glazed donut sandwiches!

Very good. I got the Italian, which is amazing and I would recommend. My friends and I split the S'mores doughnut, which was incredible! The doughnut tasted a bit like caramel. The employees were friendly and helpful and the service was very quick. Overall it was great!

They specialize in 2 things tomato soup and grilled cheese and the soup was way too thick and cold. The sandwich was terrible and I've made better in my kitchen. I couldn't even finish my meal after spending nearly $35 on it. Will never go back

Incredible food, they were on the entrepreneur show, Shark Tank and I went flying out my door to go get some. Food is great, atmosphere is great, and it's not "too" pricey. I would recommend the BBQ + Bacon

Ate here for the second time and it was just as good as the first time. We loved everything especially the s'mores donut! Will definitely be back.

My first visit to Tom + Chee was this past weekend and it was an awesome experience. You walk in and you see the colorful menu over the cashiers. It definitely pops out. I walked up to the cashier and ordered the Flying Pig sandwich, a bowl of the creamy tomato basil soup, and the S'Mores donut sandwich. The cashier definitely knew the POS system because she was very fast. My wife ordered a custom vegan sandwich, a bowl of the tomato soup, and the Strawberry Lemonade donut sandwich. We sat down and they delivered our order to us in about 10-15 minutes as they make everything to order. My flying Pig sandwich was awesome. It was $6.75, which is cheaper than the same sandwich at a restaurant would be and it was delicious, (posted photos). The cheese was great and the turkey and bacon tasted uber fresh. The creamy tomato soup was okay to me, a person who isn't a huge fan of tomato soup, but my wife loved it. Her tomato soup was chunky and it was good. A cool option they have for their sandwiches is the double decker option, which basically puts another layer of all of the ingredients on top of the sandwich; so you have bread, ingredients, bread, ingredients, bread. And it's only $2.50 extra for all sandwiches! I'll try that when I go back next. The donut sandwiches that we got are pretty much dessert in my opinion. They are a tad expensive for their size, ($4.75), but they use great ingredients and they were freaking delicious. My wife ordered bacon on her sandwich and they forgot to put it on. She went up to the register and they just credit'd back the amount of the bacon to our credit card. Mistakes happen, no big deal. Overall, I loved this place and will definitely go back soon, maybe this weekend, to try another one of their delicious, made-to-order sandwiches.

I loved Tom and Chee and have been wanting to try it out since seeing it on Shark Tank months ago. When I saw they were coming to Omaha, I was super excited. i love grilled cheese and tomato soup, but don't see it offered as a combination in most restaurants. Since I've had to go dairy free for my daughter, this was the perfect place to go as they offer vegetarian/vegan options. I was still able to get a grilled cheese sandwich with bacon (they forgot this and I got my money back), bacon, and tomato, and a bowl of tomato soup. Everything was delicious and i can't wait to go back.

"Eat What's Fun" this is their slogan but unfortunately there was no fun to be had here today. Waited in line and ordered from the robotic cashier reading from a script. We were warned of long wait times by the staff but the food was out in 5 minutes - unfortunately. The tomato basil soup was served cold. Threw it out. The Tom & Chee sandwich was one of the saddest grilled cheese I have ever seen - hardly any cheese and flavorless. The Armagoetta was better but it is a melt not a grilled cheese. It tasted of meat and hot peppers. Where's the cheese?? Our table of 6 had nothing noteworthy. So disappointing. Your typical mediocre chain.

I was so impressed by the restaurant's freshness, wide range of vegetarian options and salads, and the staff's friendliness. They also have vegan and vegetarian options. The doughnuts are fantastic and actually NOT fried.

I heart carbs. I heart cheese. So I was ready to heart the Tom + Chee. Granted, on my visit I was with a 12 y/o whom I allowed to choose our (sharing) lunch options. He chose the Grill Mac + Chee (5.95) and the S'more (4.95). Perhaps not the top items on my let's-try-out-a-new-experience list, but what the heck. You order and pay at the counter. They give you a number and once your sandwiches are ready, they arrive at your table in paper-lined baskets. While I was not a fan of either sandwich, my 12 y/o dining companion thought it was one of the best meals ever - noting that the Mac + Chee would be made better with thick cut bacon. I do appreciate the dipper size portion of soup you can order with your sandwich, but opted not to go there (since my "date" was paying for lunch and I was trying to be budget friendly for the little guy). I could see how other folks might really like this place. Quick service. Sponge Bob on the screen to entertain folks. Packets of ketchup and hot sauce at the ready. Probs won't make another trip simply due to distance - hate to have to pack a lunch for the commute for grilled cheese, no matter how novel it may be.

The service was excellent!! Eric was extremely friendly, and very knowledgeable about the menu. We had lots of questions since this was my parents' first time here, and Eric was able to answer each of them. So glad this restaurant came to Omaha!!

After seeing Tom + Chee on Sharktank and realizing they had one in Omaha, I figured I'd go see what all the fuss was about. I ordered cheddar cheese and chopped bacon on GF bread. I was very pleased to see the GF option, and the bread tasted great (there are many disappointing GF breads out there). Like other reviewers have said, it just didn't wow me. At a place that specializes in one type of sandwich, I would have expected the cheese to be amazingly gooey and more abundant in the sandwich. Chee(se) is in the name! The bacon was chopped far too daintily. I suggest larger chunks to really stand up to the bread. The decor is very corporate and cookie cutter. Just as expected. As far as I saw, everything was clean. A big disappointment was the staff. They were nice enough when I ordered, but once I sat down I could hear loud conversations from the back. One worker complained loudly about having to come in early in the morning. They ribbed each other mercilessly (as coworkers often do) but as a customer I didn't want to be privy to the details. This didn't strike the right chord with me as a first time customer.

The motto here is "Eat What's Fun". So while it's not the most grown up grilled cheese experience I've ever had, the kid in you (as well as any actual children you may have dining with you) will get a kick out of Tom + Chee. Plus, the menu and ability to customize sandwiches is vast enough that even after three visits, I still feel like there's a big chunk of options I haven't explored. I'm one of those who first heard of Tom + Chee from their Shark Tank fame. Really, this is a great success story for the owners. And while the idea of a tomato soup and grilled cheese restaurant is an admirable one, I'd ultimately probably prefer Tom[ato] and Chee[se] as they started in 2009... a small tent-based operation run by two couples in Cincinnati's Fountain Square. For me, I wonder if franchising has perhaps diluted some of the "je ne sais quoi" that made the original Tom + Chee's food so special (though the brand obviously remains strong). When it comes to the menu, there's quite a bit going on. It might not hurt to read up beforehand a little so you're not caught gaping at the board and holding up the ordering line. All told, there are 4 soups, 4 salads, 9 grilled cheese donuts and 15 sandwiches (plus a "make your own" option). For ingredients, you can choose from: 6 breads 11 cheeses 8 veggies 7 meats 7 extras (things like pesto, hummus and blueberry compote) You can also order 'dippers' of the soups - perfect! And adding pickles is free! Wee! Read More... saraheatsomaha.com/2015/…

I had dinner at Tom + Chee and all I have to say is don't waste your money! I spent over $10 and got a tiny sandwich (I got the grilled doughnut with bacon) and a small cup of chunky tomato basil soup that tasted like and had the consistency of marinara sauce, and a drink. They were out of the creamy tomato basil soup and it was 2 hours until close. It was so bad that even my mom who barely eats anything suggested we either go to McDonald's for fries or something to fill us up, or at least somewhere for dessert. We complained to the manager who obviously didn't care and all we got was a half hearted "Sorry". What a disappointment!!! I will never be going back!

This was my first visit to any location of the Tom and Chee franchise, and I was really intrigued about their customized grilled cheeses with tomato soup, because lets get real it's an American classic and we all love grilled cheese and tomato soup! Here are a few quick thoughts about my first visit: Location-Easy to find, located off Maple and 144th in the Lowes shopping plaza. Line-Out the door! Forgivable, because it is new and honestly the concept is really cool so I'm not surprised that it was packed for lunch on a Sunday. I stood in line for about 20-30 mins with no complaint. Staff-Pretty young, and friendly. Definitely well meaning. Some inconsistencies like the register next to us was telling their customers that the wait time for food was 30 mins, while ours told us 10?!? It didn't really tie together. One of them seemed really nervous-which is also forgivable since they've only been open less than a week and that many people can be quite stressful! Food- I ordered the plain grilled cheese with american cheese and the original tomato soup. I figured for the first try I might as well see how they do on the basics. The grilled cheese was fine-but nothing anyone could not duplicate with a Kraft single and a few slices of wonder bread in their own kitchen. It just was not very impressive for a plain grilled cheese, I think divey bars come up with a better grilled buttery bread crunch and more melty cheese. So for the sandwich-nothing bad just really no wow factor. The soup was a bit of the same thing. It was pretty bland as far as depth of flavor-I tasted the salt and the acidity of the tomato but not much else. It didnt strike me as better than a store bought can variety. I think I would have been better off ordering the creamy version which a few of my tablemates did-except their soup was room temp and not warm. Everyone else on the table ordered various things and no one seemed very wowed but anything we had. The mac and cheese was esp "bland" according to one of them, but I did not try it. As they are a franchise I figure their recipies are pretty solid already- so that would not cause variation in the food as it might for an independent new restaurant. I was disappointed by our food. It was $7 for a small cup of soup and the grilled cheese- which to be honest I'm not sure how I feel about that pricing yet. Overall somewhere to get some pretty average food but nothing super special as I expected given their specialty in the grilled cheese and tomato soup department. If you like the idea of customizing your grilled cheese in every which way from the bread to the cheese to the toppings you will likely enjoy Tom and Chee and I encourage you to try it yourself as they are very new and still working out some kinks. I hope you enjoy it more than I did.

Amazing. What else can you say. Yes, it's very busy. Yes, the food is different and great. My family went around 630 Friday night. The line was long, but moved quickly. Since we had never seen the menu it was perfect timing for us to decide what to order. We tried a variety. Pepperoni and cheese, Mac & cheese, bbq & bacon and my favorite, the king. Peanut butter and banana on a glazed donut. No complaints from the family. We will definitely be back.

I love the concept of this place and have been looking forward to it but this place thinks it's a full service sit down restaurant and needs to accept it's a fast food establishment. Ordered the BLT + chee with creamy tomato basil soup. Soup was fantastic. This is one of my favorite kinds of soup and I'd say they are better than many other places in Omaha that have this soup. The sandwich was grilled perfectly but had minimal cheese, I was expecting an ooey-gooey cheesy sandwich since this is a "grilled cheese" place. Lettuce was weird on it but I knew that when I ordered so that was my fault. Chopped tomatoes on it and chopped bacon. I had expected all this to be grilled into the sandwich but it's not, and it all falls out. Make no mistake the sandwich was decent, soup was great but the value isn't there at all!! This sandwich, cup of soup, water, and a slight pressure to tip (because they don't know it's a fast food place) $10.75. Yeah...no, I won't do that again! I will return to try out a doughnut tho. Food was out in 5 min and staff is very very friendly. But, I wouldn't even pay $10.75 for this in a full service sit down restaurant.

A friend and I dropped by Tom & Chee around noon on Friday and the place was packed. The line nearly went out the door. It was expected as this is a new restaurant and this is Omaha. The line moved quick though. I ordered the BLT which was good though the bacon was not as crispy as I would have liked. Overall, the sandwich was good. I also had a creamy tomato basil soup which was also good but not great. It is better at Ingredient. The best part of the meal was the S'mores donut. Tom & Chee is a great addition to Omaha and I am sure that I will be back.

I write this review like many others have so far, we came here on a Wednesday night around 5:45 PM and there was already a line out the door. The line moved at a decent speed and for our order we placed the pep + Chee, grilled Mac and cheese, classic grilled cheese doughnut and flying pig. We also added a cup of creamy tomato basil soup. Grand total was $25. The grilled cheese doughnut was outstanding and if I had ordered four of those I would probably be giving this place 4 stars. I think that for my next visit I will definitely go with their donut varieties. The sandwich was warm and the melted cheddar was a perfect balance to the crispy and sweet bite of the grilled doughnut. I really enjoyed this sandwich. My kids really liked the grilled Mac and cheese. This was probably my second favorite, just your standard macaroni and cheese sandwiched in between two grilled pieces of toast. My husband got the flying pig. The sandwich consisted of turkey, bacon, pickle and smoked Gouda on sourdough. We were disappointed because there was only one very thin slice of smoked Gouda on the sandwich. I expected more cheese for a place that specializes in grilled cheese. the pep +Chee was just ok. It had large pieces of pepperoni, some marinara sauce and mozzarella in between. The creamy tomato basil soup was definitely a disappointment. Like others have said so far, mine was only lukewarm and I think if I had heated up a bowl of Prego pasta sauce it might have been better. The staff was very very friendly. You could tell they had been working very hard due to the high volume of customers and everyone was very nice, made an effort to walk around and pick up our empty plates and asked how we were doing. I will definitely be back, but will only be getting the doughnut grilled cheese varieties. Hopefully after my next visit I can upgrade this place 4 stars.

I've dined at Tom+Chee twice now and have enjoyed both visits. So many sandwich options and the ability to make your own. The bread comes out toasty and not soggy and the toppings are all falvorful and fresh. The soups are SO good, both tomato and the cheesy taco. Save room for a grilled cheese donut - any of them with chocolate, bacon, strawberries, or blueberries are winners. I wish the location was closer, or that they would open on in Council Bluffs though!

VERY DISAPPOINTED. The restaurant was filthy- the floors, tables and counters were dirty and the trash was piled so high we had to ask them to empty the trash to throw our half-eaten food out. The employees looked dirty also except for one girl who was put together and actually looked like she had a shower. Ordered gluten-free bread with cheddar but was a bit skeptical they got the bread right when they couldn't handle wiping down tables and sweeping. When I got my grilled cheese sandwich I was more annoyed that there was no cheese. Why would I go back to a place that specializes in grilled cheese and get two pieces of bread with nothing in between? Was very surprised that this newer restaurant had such bad management.

Ordered to go for the family, service was fast and everyone enjoyed their food. We got a couple of donuts because we had the coupon, one was put in the fridge and tasted even better chilled. Will probably make a habit of getting donuts for later, the sandwiches are very filling.

I went Sunday with a group of friends. Line practically out the door, so, it must be good, right? Wrong. I ordered the TomChee-1/2 size, and a cup of creamy tomato basil soup. The grilled cheese was barely grilled and soaked in butter. There was not enough cheese to even call it a grilled cheese. The soup was very luke warm and I didn't finish it. Had it of been hot, it would be been decent. I felt it was pricey for the poor quality of food. $22 for two sandwiches, 2 cups of soup, water and a soda. I'll make my own grilled cheese next time.

I had this: ARMAGOETTA Goetta(a sausage kind of mixture - very tasty!)+Cherry Peppers(they have a bite of spice to them!)+Fried Onions (super good)+Sweet Hot Mustard(super good)+Pepper Jack+Sourdough+Pumpernickel Rye(super super super good). I would definitely recommend this grilled cheese sandwich. There's a lot of flavor, crunchy, buttery, spicy...all the right things! Now for the missing star, I would just like to see more of an effort to set themselves apart from other franchises. I don't like to see bags of chips or fountain iced tea...it's not that hard to brew iced tea and have fun with it, get two or three different flavors! And maybe endless homemade chips, offer different flavors. After all, this place is kinda expensive. Endless chips would be a nice offer. The cheese doughnut is a little too different. I would've liked to sample it but I wouldn't have liked to spend money to try it unless I knew it was good. Samples sell!

I want to love Tom Chee -- the concept is great, the menu is interesting, and it is in my neck of the woods. An obvious "pro" is that the menu is surprisingly diverse. I'm glad there were at least 4 people ahead of us in line because I needed that long to study the menu. Really they offer a ton of 'melts' in several thoughtful flavors. There is also a build-your-own adventure which is nice. The kids meal is straightforward and fitting. Another 'pro' is the ambiance and service is nice. The space is well designed for a decent amount of seating, a drink station, and clearly delineated order line. The first 'con' is that they hand you a number that is ostensibly linked to your order. However, the servers seem to bring things out as they are finished so if you ordered a few things in your group - whatever is ready comes out even if the other table orders are not ready. This means (1) your table might not get to eat at the same time and (2) it confuses the sh*t out of the servers because they see numbers still up on tables and cannot work out what is left on the order. I'm chalking this one up to a 'kink' of being open for less than one month - so for now it is forgivable. The silver lining is that the sammies are so damn hot you need to wait a few minutes anyway before diving in - so everyone else's stuff will be trickling out as you wait. The BIGGEST con - and this is a BIG ONE - is the absolutely, without a doubt asinine prices. I can sit down at Red Robin two bays over and get a huge burger with bottomless fries and table service for the equivalent price as full meals go. I realize the menu has some intrigue - but we are talking about two slices of bread with some stuff grilled in between. The going rate for that kind of sammie should not start at $4. And everything is an add-on. My experience there was not necessarily a bad one - other than the damage to my credit card. We ate there Sunday and the food was good. There were 6 adults and 1 kid and our order came out at completely random intervals - starting with the donut which was completely stupid. And this wasn't an issue of having placed separate orders - our tickets were divided three ways and stuff in the same order came out at different times. It was weird. Everyone more or less liked their sandwich - and everyone ordered something different, which shows that the menu is diverse and suits many palates. The few of us that ordered soups were reasonably satisfied. We all agreed that the butter-level was intense and unnecessary. You can grill bread with less butter and it will taste just as good. We ordered two donuts and other than having difficulty eating it (there is no way on earth to pick it up or cut it) - the flavors were amazing and probably the high point of the meal for sure. I just don't see this making its way into our rotation of restaurants. It's interesting factor makes it suitable to take your out of town guests for a meal if you are pressed for time. Otherwise, I cannot justify over $30 for two adults and a kid for lunch.

Flying pig sandwich was amazing! Chunky basil soup was bland, needed seasoning. Really think they should offer samples of the grilled cheese donut, not something I would buy unless I knew I liked it.

Interesting concept for fast food. Pure comfort food. But it seems like I can make all of it at home. Good smells.

Seemed blah and not a good value. Not much cheese on the sandwich. Combo portion of soup is a small "dipper". That is smaller than a cup. Would not rush back.

We decided to give this place a try since it was newer and had a lot of hype. Unfortunately it is probably not a place we will not return to unless someone else suggest it and really wants to go. Plus sides: quick service and clean. Downfalls: it was really loud seemed as though people's voices echoed, 3 of us each ordered a menu sandwich which looked amazing but weren't for our taste buds for some season. I guess all in all it was neither a horrible experience nor am exciting experience.

  • John T.

Not impressed. I ordered a spicy pepper grilled cheese. The sandwich was super greasy, to the point that it was hard to eat. I ordered a cup of the tomato soup. Tasted home made, but a bit under seasoned. I added salt and a heavy dose of pepper to compensate. On the positive, the staff was very friendly, food came out pretty fast and it was clean. I might give it another chance, but my guess is probably not. Much better choices if you're interested in grilled cheese and soup for lunch.

  • Sue T.

Not impressed.... $27 for two adults and three kids. A basic grilled cheese for $4, nothing special. Kids half a sandwich with a small amount of Mac n Cheese inside was $5 (wasn't told there's an up charge of $1). Cup of soup looked more like the dipper size. Nothing tasted bad, just nothing special. We were wishing we had gone over to Chipotle instead, for the money. No question about the customer service, it was great! Had to try it out, but we don't have any desire to go back.

A nice spin on a classic meal. Pretty decent pricing. Tuesday's after 4pm we were told, kids meals are only .99 so that is great! Loved the s'more donut! The classic soup was just okay. Next time I will get the creamy basil. Kid friendly environment.

Fantastic food, quick wait time (surprisingly), and food was quick to get to me and my son. All of the other reviews below must have been de when they first came out, because it was almost completely opposite for us. I got the flying pig, which was very good even though it wasn't considerably a grilled cheese, and my son had a bbq+bacon which is a grilled cheese with bacon and BBQ potato chips. We got a grilled cheese donut which was very good. We both also got a cup of beer cheese soup. The soup was warm and our meals were also warm. Overall the menu is very diverse and was very interesting. One reason for only 4 stars is that there wasn't much room in the restaurant. I can imagine opening day being a nightmare. Another is the prices. A small, classic, grilled cheese donut was $3.95! Just for the 2 of us it was 27 dollars! Overall great place. Definitely would go again.

Been wanting to try this since we saw it on Shark tank so tonight was the time. Very disappointed, the meat on the sandwich was full of fat and overcooked bad cuts of turkey. The soup was gritty and not hot. The best part was the grilled plan white bread, that was grilled to a nice golden brown. Looked good...tasted bad. Don't waste your time.

Very positive experience. The fact that a new and innovative restaurant has coupons is a major win. My husband and I did a buy one sandwich get one free and we did the crunchy garlic chicken and the special they were featuring for the day--buffalo chicken. LOVED the crunchy garlic. Buffalo chicken just isn't my thing so I don't fault the restaurant. We also did the buy one get one free donut. The donut of the day--cookies and cream--was delightful! Go. Use coupons. Order donuts. Repeat.
