Overall, Panda House is a decent pass for a neighborhood Chinese place. Since it's walking distance for me, I'll probably frequent it a bit, but wouldn't recommend driving downtown just for the joint. I dined in at around 8 PM on a Saturday, and was the only person in the restaurant (I guess with the downtown work-week, it might do more in-restaurant business during the weekday lunch crowd). an empty restaurant isn't a good sign, but the phone was ringing off the hook with takeout orders while I was in there, so demand was high atleast (all asking for chicken-fried rice though - there was plenty of better stuff on the menu). the owner didn't seem overly hospitable, but since I'm not a big customer service critic, it didn't bother me one way or the other. I ordered the hot and spicy soup ($1.50) [my usual barometer for a chinese place], the two flavors lamb ($12.95), and a Tsingtao. The beer came with a crystal chalice for a glass, which is not preferable to a lager or pint glass (course, the locals drink Tsingtao from plastic bags, so who am I to judge, really). The soup came out quickly and warm, though could have used more vinegar to add more of the sour flavor - I was glad, though, that it wasn't the tomato-based version of the soup I've suffered through at other Chinese places that failed to earn my repeat business. My main course quickly followed, piping-hot and well spiced/flavored, with scallions and onions bringing a lot of flavor to both sides of the dish. Presentation was pretty good too - a line of orange slices separated the two different lamb dishes, which were pretty tasty to eat after they soaked up the dishes's sauce. I plan to head back, though wouldn't consider this more than a mid-week, "I don't feel like cooking" and/or need a pre-drinking meal spot. I'd concur with the other reviewers too on the "steer clear of the cocktails" line.

I like this place & usually only do take out. The dinner portions are big enough to last for leftovers. The staff has always treated me well.

If I could give this place 0 star I would. I could not believe how horrible the manager/owner treated us. Called to place an order, the man acted as though I was interrupting him. Kept cutting me off when I had complete my order he said "that is all?" I said yes and he hung up. Did not repeat it or take my payment. When they arrived we were missing an order and my order was just water and oil with a couple vegies. When I called to get our c missing order he refused to give it to us. After asking to speak to the manager or owner (who we were already speaking too) he was extra rude. Eventually he told us to come pick up our own order and never call back....

They do delivery, yet clearly they don't want to do delivery. It doesn't make any sense to me. I called the guy gave him my order at the end of it he tried talking me out of doing delivery I asked him if he could deliver and you said yes it would take 55 minutes. I'm only 8 blocks away, and yet he tells me it will be 15 minutes if I come pick it up. He spent most of the conversation trying to persuade me to come pick it up and I finally just did. They should really stop doing it.

My husband and I were famished late Labor Day evening, and took to Yelp to find out what was open. Panda House it is! We walked in to this adorable downtown location and the staff cordially welcomed us in and took our orders immediately. I can't say enough about how charming their location is - large windows that look onto downtown, bright lighting, tall ceilings, and clean. My husband had the chicken lo mein and I had the tangerine chicken. The tangerine chicken was succulent dark meat with a sauce that was simultaneously sweet, citrusy, with just enough spice. My husband usually does not like dark meat, but he really liked my dish. I had a bit of his lo mein and it was quite wonderful - just the right amount of salt. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we're ordering delivery from them tonight for dinner. Charming locale, diverse menu, polite staff, long hours, and solidly good food. This is how you make repeat customers! Panda House, I really really like you!

From out of town & thought I'd try - first off all, the people are very nice. I grabbed food to go. Ordered Happy Family w/ fried rice & a cup of hot & sour. Good stuff! Entree was good but the soup was fabulous! I recommend you try Panda House.

A good, solid Americanized Chinese place. A little bland, but definitely edible (and definitely better than King Fong, which is a story for another day). Affordable, too! The wonton soup broth is literally... chicken broth. No depth of flavor to it. The wonton is mostly noodle, almost no filling. But the egg roll was spot-on! Husband's orange chicken was also great... I ordered the Amazing Shrimp, which turned out to be decent, but not "amazing". The service was really wonderful, and it's a beautiful location. So many windows, so much natural light! And awesome for people-watching during lunch hour, too. I like the experience of getting to watch the world go by while I eat, so I would come back here.

Came here for the first time in months yesterday...Used to come all the time but stopped after getting sub par food once to often...Evidently there's been a change in ownership and it was totally reflected in my experience today...I ordered my usual, kung pao chicken, no veggies and 2 egg rolls...the best i'd had since i probably started coming here...the egg rolls were actually hot and cooked all the way through for once lol and the food itself was excellent, with the easy but appreciated touch of the rice actually being on the same plate as the main course...the waitress/hostess/possible owner was very friendly and attentive...price was about the same as it always was so i was happy about that...I will now start coming back since it seems I can finally start getting good food here once again...Keep it up PH

I ordered twice from this place and was disappointed each time. Combination fried rice was ok but the shrimp and chicken entree we got each time were both bad to say the least. It comes with white/ fried rice which has almost no flavor. The entree itself is a decent portion but it js mostly soggy Vegetables and flavorless sauce. The chicken/ shrimp in each dish seemed like it was frozen for a while and very rubbery. Very disappointment because each dish is almost 10 dollars and you would expect more from it.

After hearing many good things about Panda House from Jason G, I decided to give them another shot. Well, this time around I managed to avoid ordering any metallic-tasting soup, which was nice (and the main reason my previous meal was, eh, not so good). Instead, my wonton soup was, you know, fine. The egg rolls were, you know, pretty good. Jason recommended the Kung Pao chicken sans mushroom for an entree. Sounds good to me. I don't hate shrooms, so I went ahead and ordered the whole meal. I have to say Jason was right -- the sweet and slightly spicy chicken was buried in shrooms, like there were more shrooms than chicken. Still, Panda House is an all-around average Chinese joint in the heart of an interesting downtown neighborhood. Which reminds me, I haven't been to King Fong in like 15 years. I need to get there and compare the two, as they are neighbors. And I still have a hard time choosing Panda House when stellar eateries like Culprit Cafe, Block 16 and Kitchen Table are so, so close by (and only a little bit more expensive). And before I forget: There are a variety of fancy, mostly tropical cocktails on the Panda House menu. Yet when you look at the dusty, untouched-for-a-decade liquor bottles behind the cash register, you wonder what exactly you'd get if you ordered one (e.g. -- a half empty bottle of Captain Morgan was a weird yellowish color, instead of the usual oak-y brown of spiced rum). God only knows.

I absolutely love Panda House! It was on the list of my must haves when coming back to Nebraska for a visit. I can't even explain how scrumptious the food is and just thinking about it now makes my mouth water. I always order dinner here and order the Lover's Nest with a side of crab rangoons! The presentation of the Lover's Nest is spot on and I recommend it to anyone trying Panda House for the first time. The Lover's Nest as the menu states is a combination of shredded chicken, beef, and vegetables bathed in delicious brown sauce with a sweet, spicy zing....then tossed into a crunchy basket shell with fried noodles! Oh and can't forget the rice! Such a scrumptious dish and cannot seem to part from this to try other things on the menu! It's just so spot on and fulfills my every taste bud and desire for amazing Chinese food! The service is also good. The waiters and waitresses are always so kind. Overall, I believe this place is a must have. Oh and enough food to eat the next day....even better!

It took 2 hours to get our food. The order was wrong. The food was cold. Ask for a refund or discount was told no. Will not order from this place again!!!

I just ordered for the first time a delivery from this place. I wanted shrimp chow mein. What they gave me was shrimp in cabbage and that was it. I called back and said i think you gave me the wrong order. The man on the phone said no it comes with fried noodles. I said the thick fried noodles for my wonton soup yes but it's suppose to have thin crispy angel hair type noodle and there is none. He begins to argue with me that I'm thinking of lo mein! First of all I'm half korean, i have a strong asian food background. And this restaurant was trying to pull one over my head. Does this look like chow mein to you?

Garlic chicken was 100% awesome! Egg Roll, 3/10, Crab RANgoon 7/10, and the hot and sour soup for my to go order-I don't know? They forgot it. Called back the establishment to let them know this. They fought me on it. Said, it was in my bag. At that point, I said, "Adios" called Visa, got my credit, and will not be returning.

I finally tried Panda House but only pick up and did not eat in the restaurant (which would have been odd because not a single person was in there!). We got Mongolian Beef, Egg Drop Soup, Egg roll and crab rangoon. Everything was pretty good except for the main dish-Mongolian Beef. There were SO many onions and barely any beef! The flavor was good but you just can't take that many onions with one meal. I will consider going back but would never order that meal again. Egg Drop soup was nothing special-don't order it.

Quaint little shop with a good downtown corner view, we had the place to ourselves. I had the princess shrimp and chicken, which featured good rice and excellent mushrooms. My girlfriend had some of the best lo mein of her life.

I did not actually eat there, but I had it delivered. I was a little disappointed with them. I asked for some deep fried shrimp, they told me they had prawns instead. I was like OK. 4 prawns for like 5 something. When it finally arrived at my hotel I was really looking forward to the prawns. I open the bag and there was a small bag that had the smallest shrimp I have ever seen. I was like WTF. The pork fried rice was good at least. I don't think I will order from there again. Also, I asked for extra hot mustard and got none. WTF.

Try the shrimp and pork, Hunan style. I have ordered from panda house for 10 years and have never been disappointed. Superior to king fong.

People who visit Omaha or are not familiar with the layout of the downtown area often end up on 16th Street with the false belief that it is somehow the epicenter of downtown, when in reality most of what's great in downtown is about 5-6 blocks east. There are several restaurants that benefit from this "downtown decoy", and Panda House is certainly one of them. There are much better restaurants, even superior Chinese restaurants, within what most people with two legs consider walking distance. Panda House is pretty average, even by Chinese restaurant standards. I like the hot and sour soup, as well as the orange beef. The primary advantage the Panda House has over restaurants in the immediate 16th Street vicinity is that they are actually open for dinner. If you venture further downtown only a few blocks, there are a number of restaurants that are better in terms of quality and price, but if you're just looking for average Chinese food and don't want to wander around, Panda House will do. If you have any mobility whatsoever, I would recommend you take advantage of that fact and head east, where the restaurants are much better.

This is a sub standard Chinese takeout. Living right next to it I have given it many chances, and I really never have been impressed.

I ordered Panda House delivery a couple days ago and just wasn't very impressed. I ordered Moo Goo Gai Pan and the vegetables were definitely frozen. The chicken was rubbery and the sauce had little flavor. The Egg Drop Soup was bland and boring. The food wasn't awful but it wasn't good either. There is MUCH better Chinese Food in Omaha than Panda House.

drove by omaha on a rainy day. this was the only decent restaurant open at 8pm in the area. ordered beef and vegetable chow mein and it tasted ok but not great. the gravy had a faint taste of beef top ramen soup. the hot and sour soup was tasty and of a good consistency.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
