Not good. I got the peanut butter chicken. It is the worst Chinese food I have ever tried. Horrid. My friend Got Kung pow equally as horrid. I will never eat there again

I have been back with a group since my review and it has turned around a complete 180 for me. The duck was great and lotus leaf rice is fantastic.

Went there Saturday, 22 March 2014 @ 1800 hrs. Good: - Food was good (Dim sum). - Good portions for the price Bad: - Service was TERRIBLE!!! - the girl that was waiting our table doesn't seem to have a clue on basic customer service. - the manager/owner doesn't seem to care Given that the place was busy and there was about 14 in our party, we came in knowing that we'll have some longer than normal wait time for our food. But waiting for more than 1 hour is UNACCEPTABLE! Waitress didn't even offered/asked us if wanted drinks other than water. She took our dim sum list and didn't get the rest if our group. Result was a cluster f@c#! My water got refilled when I was done with dinner. The irony is we got charged for a "service charge" on our bill (probably because of our big group/gratuity), that was pretty much non-existent on this place. RECOMMENDATION: If you have a big party and wanna try this place, split your group to avoid being charged. Nothing worse than getting a crapy service, then charging you extra for it. To be fair...I will give this place another try and post an updated review. But for now, the 1 star rating I'm giving this place is 1 star too many.

BEST CHINESE IN OMAHA!! You will not find better crab Rangoon or sweet & sour chicken

This was an absolutely horrid experience. (Further edit for manager, "Brin" who requested more specific criticism... 1. Your Crab Rangoon filling had no seasoning the fried wonton portion had an awful aftertaste that I could vividly remember a day later. Perhaps old oil. 2. Your pot stickers stuffing looked undercooked, was mushy, and tasted like there was way too much cabbage ratio to meat. Seasoning was undetectable. 3. Your Honey Walnut Shrimp arrived cold, congealed looking. The white/yellow sauce was unlike anything I have encountered in Asian cuisine. It was very bland, thick and pastey. Perhaps trying to Americanize another dish? I was expecting something like a dish called Crispy Honey Shrimp that my family has enjoyed in other towns. 4. The only possible positive was the Sesame Chicken IF it had been warm and again not looking like a congealed mess. Also, the fried rice had a decent taste, the beef pieces were good, but there were overcooked pieces of pork and shrimp and dehydrated looking vegetables. Bottom line, nothing looked fresh or like the chef cared a whole lot about what was coming from his kitchen. As far as Taste of Thailand -- their Green Curry is the best I have had this side of the ocean, their customer service is top notch, and while the restaurant is not huge they go out of their way to make you feel at home. You would do well to pull some best practices from them.

Pretty good food, nicer inside than I thought it would be, I did have a semi-awkward interaction with an employee, but nothing too terrible. Good prices for what you get, I am sure I'll go back.

I was very impressed with Grand Fortune. I've had take out before but only recently got to dine in. It's very nice, quiet, and well decorated. inside. They even have a cover of Asian Restaurant (or something) magazine with the owners on the cover. Typical Chinese signs and art inside, lots of Tsingtao beer signs. They have a full bar inside to the right when you walk in. It's pretty small but it would be nice to sit at if you liked Asian beers. I did try an Singha Lager from Thiland with my dinner and it surprised me at how good it was. We started off with an order of crab rangoons. They were cooked almost perfect, crispy on the outside and hot and creamy on the inside. Probably the best I've had at a local Chinese place. We got an order of egg foo yung, combination fried rice, and I ordered the Szechuan Beef for myself. We've ordered the egg foo yung and combination fried rice for take out before. It's always great, even without soy sauce or any other stuff added to it. My szechuan beef was amazing. I normally despise celery and and carrots but they were cooked so perfect and actually brought out the flavor in them that I managed to eat everything. I would definitely come here again, be it a date or a family dinner.

Too oily, the dim sum is not vegetarian friendly and the things I tried were far from good. Waste of money and time.

This is my favorite Dim Sum in Omaha - been to L.A, San Fran and New York City China towns this is as close as it gets as far as Dim Sim goes. Don't come here for great service it's a norm in Asian joints not great. It's not a five star steak House. If you been to hole in the walls in the big cities you'd be lucky to use a restroom. Just for those who complain about restrooms.

I drove from Lincoln to try out dim sum in Omaha. The restaurant is nice but the hostess (Guy) ignored me and talked on the phone. I am a big spender and they ruin my welcome. Overall, it's nice and clean. They didn't know how to cook noodle the way I requested due to their English barrier. Chicken feet was a bit too tough. taro puff taste good. Bean crud rolls and sui mine were not as good as I expected. However, it will probably good for American.

The dim sum on weekends is great; but, I'm updating my review to reflect my current experience. My parent's are visiting from out-of-town and I have been promising them an amazing dim sum experience. For weeks I have been talking up the BBQ pork buns, the beef rice noodles and pork congee. We had a Thursday evening dinner opening and made a special trip to this restaurant not thinking there would be any problems as the owner posted a comment to my original review stating dim sum was now available seven days/week. Much to our chagrin, the dim sum menu IS NOT fully available. The items we craved and wrote about in my previous review were all off the menu. I was told these were not "popular" items which I fail to believe based on other restaurant reviews also praising these menu items. The staff was very cavalier about this fact and failed to understand they are misrepresenting themselves. I feel duped and recommend dining here on weekends only! I'll be looking for new dining options in Omaha.... PS: Their bathrooms are filthy and have no soap. The board of health needs to check them out.

The food was good. I enjoyed the flavors and felt that the portions were good. But as other reviews state, the service was terrible. The host/waiter was extremely impatient and seemed to be inconvenienced by questions about gluten free options.

I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone anymore. The food for my most recent visit was terrible all around. It took an hour for my take out order to be done when I was told it would take 20-25 minutes. This place used to be really good. Something's changed and it's not good anymore in my opinion.

Wow ... where to begin with my experience at Grand Fortune. I guess I should start by saying that I'm pretty generous as far my tolerances for Chinese food quality. I have had everything from amazing to just ok but my experience at Grand Fortune was just terrible in every way. I ordered Hunan Lamb and an eggroll, while my mother ordered the generals chicken. The eggroll turned out to be the only edible item we ordered. The Generals Chicken which is quite often the same at most establishments was quite possibly the worst quality I have seen yet. You received about 4 medium sized bites of dark meat chicken which was extremely tough and even un-cutable by a fork. Toughest old chicken I had ever seen. It was sent back to the kitchen when they offered to make the same dish with white meat. Again, the white meat chicken was old, tough, and not even edible. My dish, the Hunan lamb arrived cold and mostly flavorless even with the sauce. Very small portion and it was edible but very bland and to be honest a little disgusting due to it's bland and cold taste. I know a lot of people may enjoy Grand Fortunes Dim Sum on Saturdays and Sundays but I will never return to this restaurant under any circumstances. It's pretty bad when you pay $30 for a lunch and you have to go to Burger King afterwards to get something semi-fit to eat. I guess the only positive thing I have to say to finish is that the service was good and the spicy mustard helped cover the taste of the main dishes. If you are thinking of going to Grand Fortune for a normal meal I strongly suggest either going somewhere else or even buying a frozen Chinese meal at the grocery store ... you will be much better off.

Good, not great. The Mongolian chicken was good, but pretty sauceless and less onion-y than I've had in the past. The rice was nothing special either. I probably wouldn't eat here again, however the staff was very sweet and attentive.

Best Chinese that we found in Omaha. We've had multiple Chinese restaurants in Omaha and hated each one. This restaurant is clean. The bathrooms are clean (which for some reason is rare). Definitely doesn't taste like "fast food" Chinese. I recommend the Kung pao chicken.

Chinese restaurants in town have fairly ubiquitous menu choices, and Grand Fortune is no different, yet they also have Dim Sum. Their food is very tasty, and their service is very good. The ambiance of the restaurant is slightly upscale, yet casual. Although everyone has their favorite chinese restaurant, this one is worth trying. Evidently, they also deliver within a five mile radius of the restaurant.

mmm Dim Sum, it's been so long since I've had good Dim Sum. Christmas day my brother in law, my niece, and I had lunch here at Grand Fortune. It's always great to eat Chinese with my brother cuz he can speak Cantonese and we usually get really good everything! Unlike some of the Dim Sum places back at home, they don't come around on carts and push any plates on you. They give you a menu list of Dim Sum items and you just choose. This way the food comes out hot, fresh and amazing! First came out the authentic rice soup AKA jook!! This is one of my favorites, my grandma used to make it all the time and according to my Brother in law it's tough to make it just right without burning it. Grand Fortune has it down, this soup was so good I had to verbally tell myself to stop eating it to save room for everything else, she even puts a duck egg in it, WINNER! The food was so fresh & flavorful. Some of the items I chose the spare ribs, stuffed eggplant and the shrimp. My brother in law chose this fried flaky taro dish, duck, fried squid, char siu bao, and this sweet bao that I enjoyed very much and another dumpling and turnip cake that I didn't get to try, and for our greens we got Choi sum. Stuffed eggplant: comes with three huge pieces and their stuffed with a fishcake. This was one of my all time favorites!! It was huge but easy to eat and yummy! Taro dish: It was actually really pretty, it was nice and flaky on the outside, the taro was warm and delicious, and whatever was inside was just divine. All of these unique flavors somehow went together and choirs started singing----it was THAT good! Shrimp dumplings: comes with a generous amount of small shrimp, yummalicious! Baos: Loved both of these. The bread was fresh with a dollop of sticky goodness on top of them. The char siu was wonderful and the other bao was more like a pastry so it was sweet, and great! Choi Sum: This is probably the best choi sum I've tasted in awhile, it was full dish of choi sum cuz my niece asked for it. The sauce was a great flavor and the choi sum was crunchy and fresh, loved it!! The food here is so amazing. Who would have thought a great authentic Chinese food restaurant would be in Omaha Nebraska!! They get an extra star just for that!! Coming from Hawai'i there are so many authentic Chinese food restaurants, so to find one up here, is a blessing!!! The staff is really great as well, they are super nice and always asking to see if you're okay. Another tid bit about this place, they have a full bar, my sister and I shared a huge volcano drink one night, came flamin and tasted great! Come here on the weekends for Dim Sum, you'll be thanking me later. =o)

The food here was inedible and bland. The employees were kind and the restaurant is decent. I had sweet and sour chicken, the chicken was breaded and deep fried for way too long because it was dry and tough. The rice was dry and crusted. My mother in law ordered the sesame chicken and hers was the same way. The portions seemed pretty good but we were completely dissatisfied with this food. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

Grand Fortune is one of two Chinese restaurants that I consider to be in a class above all other Chinese restaurants in town. They have typical offerings that one expects to see in Chinese places, but the quality and interpretation are so much better. I love the tangerine beef, and the three flavors pork, and the amazing shrimp IS amazing. There is also a full bar. There is also an extensive and tasty dim sum menu, something that's awfully hard to find in town. In addition to the dim sum menu, they also offer a full authentic chinese menu (it's not "secret" like some other places). The staff is always friendly and the place is clean, with ample parking. The best part? They deliver for five bucks, with no minimum order. Don't be a cheap-ass and not tip, either, 'cause the delivery guy is awesome. If you get their VIP card for forty dollars, every time you buy two or more entrees, the second entree is free. The card pays for itself in a few trips or deliveries.

Service was horrid. Food was served cold and even if was hot it would be average at best. I'm surprised at all the glowing reviews here, my experience was sub par at best. Two stars is a gift.

Yes! It is as good as they say!! Just came back from a Dim Sum New Year celebration. Bill came to $33 for 7 dishes: Baked BBQ pork bun - excellent, white puffy goodness with perfect amount of pork nestled inside Deep Fried Sesame Ball - best I ever had, light airy, sesame-ey and some mango sauce inside Chinese brocoli aka bok choy with oyster sauce - excellent, lots of leafy goodness (I go for the leaves before I get down to the stalks) and they brought this dish out first :)))) Fried shrimp ball - very good, some kick, no claws Salt and pepper shrimp - good, I even ate one head, which is pretty good for a white girl Shrimp dumplings - okay, rice paper too thick and something like egg stuffed in there with baby shrimp Leek dumplings - just okay, same rice paper issue and there was more pork than leek CAUTION VEGGIES We are in heaven, we never thought we would get good Dim Sum outside of the west coast, but so glad we were wrong. Looking forward to next time: stuffed mushrooms, stuffed eggplant, beef nest taro puff, more buns, turnip cakes.... Gung hay fat choy! Oh yeah, Dim Sum is served only on Saturdays and Sundays between 11am and 3pm

Baked manapua aka baked bbq pork bun is the way to go when you go dim sum here! My favorite! Even though I personally would not choose Chinese food to eat, if my husband wants Chinese, and decides to go here, I will go. If we are not going for Dim Sum, I will eat the cantonese pan fried noodles, of which are the most authentic in town considering I am from Hawaii and they make it everywhere there. Here, you kinda have to ask for it. Crab rangoons are good too, of which are my most favorite "Nebraskan" Chinese dish. They have a full bar and Tina knows exactly how to make, like, every drink imaginable. The only problem with this place is, is that it is so far from when I live, but totally worth the drive.

One must 1st. understand that this is OMAHA, NE & not Singapore, Vancouver or even Toronto or Cleveland, where one can find some really GREAT Chinese food! That said, GF isn't that bad after all. I love Seafood Crispy fried noodles which for some reason 99% of the Chinois restaurants in Omaha just don't do. So after spending about an hour on the phone, one day, calling all the Chinois fooderies, I found one that did & it was GF!!! Bravo!! So we go out to 173rd. from the Field Club, which really is nothing when you last lived in Chitcago, where it could take hours just to drive across town sometimes & arrive at about 8pm which is unusually early for us to eat but once again this being Omaha, NE where most of the locals have to be up at dawn to milk their COWS & most restaurants close at 9p, we enter an empty restaurant. Must admit I was sort of scared that maybe it might be terrible but... Anyway we were, needless to say, greeted & served like we were the only ones in the restaurant!! BTW; I had called earlier, though I didn't think to make a res. Anyway let's cut to the chase, err food I mean; So To my delight, they do have my object of food lust, crispy fried noodle seafood but it turns out that it's in some sort of fried noodle basket type thing which I've never seen or heard of before?? Well after checking w the waiter & describing how other places make it, he says that it's the same except that the seafood mix is placed into this basket, noodle thing & that you just eat the whole thing. Well OK, let's give it a try. Well as it turns out, the seafood mix was really good but the basket seemed to have been made either in China or most probably in the Twin Cities where most local Chinese restaurants get their provisions from & it was a challenge to eat to say the least. Anyway after dinner I got to chatting w the waiter & explained to him how the meal was served in Sacramento, Toronto & Cleveland where I've had it before & he was very kind & said that next time I come in, just let the server know that I want it served on a bed of crispy noodles & that that would be fine with them!! Anyway it worked, next time I went there, they did it My Way & it was really good!

Grand Fortune is not just another Chinese restaurant; their dishes stand out and the atmosphere is a cut above the cookie-cutter Asian dining experiences that seem to abound in every strip mall in the city. My dish recommendation would be the Honey Walnut Shrimp. Delightful!

Finally - some authentic Chinese food in Omaha! With a craving for congee, I thought I was out of luck here in Omaha. Thankfully Grand Fortune came to the rescue. We came here for Dim Sum on the weekend, and everything we ordered reminded me of a decent Chinatown restaurant. The dishes were more on target than Gold Mountain. The taro "nest" dumplings were flakier and more flavorful, and the beef rice noodle rolls were meaty and savory. The congee was perfect comfort food - soothing rice porridge flecked with green onions, preserved egg, and salted pork. The restaurant itself was spacious and service was attentive and polite. The biggest test for me - would I take my mom (born & raised in Hong Kong) here for lunch? Yes - and I wouldn't be embarrassed.

The absolute best Dim Sum in Omaha and Vegas (Only other city I have tried it at)....don't waste your time with Gold Mountain, it doesn't hold a candle to the Grand Fortune. The service was top notch and the food was EXCELLENT!! My daughter, Grandaughter and I ordered all Dim Sum and appetizer items, 8 plates in all and then we took an order of Happy Family, Hot sour soup and fried wontons home for the hubby. The first thing he did was eat it with his eyes..I knew I had scored for him. The "Happy Family" dinner is one of the specialty dishes consisting of...Jumbo shrimp, large scallops, crab meat, assorted veggies in a white sauce (I had them make it spicy for him). He is in heaven as I sit and type this. All of this at a price of $44.02..I'm completely impressed. I live is Sidney, Iowa (1 1/2 hours drive_ but I will make it a point to visit this place everytime I have to make a run to the city (Omaha) for supplies.!!!

Picked this place at random while my family was in the neighborhood on a Tuesday night. This place is fabulous! We started with egg rolls, shrimp toast, and crab rangoons. The shrimp toast is exactly how I like it (loaded with shrimp!) and even though crab rangoons are kind of generic item on the menu, they were great. The hot mustard here will kick your butt!!! :) For dinner, we ordered Moo Shu pork, Tangerine beef, Amazing Shrimp, and Eggplant with Garlic Sauce. All good, nothing bad. The food was several notches above what you'd get at any other generic Chinese restaurant. Our waitress was attentive and very sweet. She did an excellent job! I see from other reviews that Grand Fortune has Dim Sum on weekends, I am absolutely sure I will be back to try it.

The soup was not bad, but the General Tso chicken was nasty. You could taste and smell that it was not fresh. The food was microwaved and not even hot. Then they warmed up my replacement. Horrible place that I won't recommend to no one.

I've been to this place twice and my most recent visit was a great one. For two the meal was $29. It was on Sunday and all we had was Dim Sum, which was excellent. I also had roast duck ($7) and it was awesome! We picked out a bunch of stuff and we really had no idea what most of them were but they were all delectable! The congee was really good also. The service was decent and overall a nice place for a weekend lunch.

At Grand Fortune, the secret password (passphrase really) is "Can I see your other menu?". Do this and you'll be rewarded with a plain white laminated menu with authentic Cantonese style delectables such as steamed fish, scallion chicken, Singapore noodles and several other Chinatown standards. Now, I've never been to China, so I can't vouch for the authenticity, but I can say that all of their dishes match pretty well to what I've grown accustom when eating in Oakland's Chinatown. This might have something to do with the fact that the owner is from Oakland and the chef is from San Francisco. The best part is, if you have a favorite dish that's not on the menu, just ask for it. Chances are, if you can say it, they can make it. Oh, and they have DIM SUM! So with our secret passphrase, we met with the owner, Tracy, and setup to have a 9 course Chinese style banquet for the Foodies of Omaha consisting of the following items: Seafood Tofu Soup Honey Walnut Shrimp Jellyfish Chinese Sausage & Gai-lan Bok Choy with Black Mushroom Scallion Chicken (half) Cantonese Style Duck (half) Spareribs in Imperial Sauce Sweet Taro & Tapioca Soup Unfortunately, several of our members were unable to attend, so we had to pare down our menu a bit. The items we did not have were: Chinese Sausage, Scallion Chicken and the Spareribs. Of the items we did have, everything was fantastic. I'm not originally from Oakland and I only lived there for a couple of years, but it felt like being home. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures for you and I'm not going to describe each of the dishes we had because most of them taste exactly like they sound. I will say that the duck we had was better than most I've had in the past and this is the first time I've ever finished a Chinese dessert (though I did donate the taro to my wife). Speaking of dessert, we might have a tradition starting at our F.O.O.D. meetings. After we finished at Grand Fortune, we made a quick stop down the road to Gelato Jo's. I can't really say if their gelato is better than Whole Foods, but it's definitely in the top 2 of Omaha. So if you've always wanted to try some "authentic" Chinese food, stop in to Grand Fortune, say "Hi" to Tracy, tell her Foodies of Omaha sent you and muster up your tongue to spit out the words "Gon Chow Ngau Ho" and enjoy your Beef Chow Fun! Grand Fortune Chinese has been on my bookmark list for quite some time but as it's across town, I hadn't yet made my way there. Since I was on business in the area, I thought it was the perfect time to stop in and get acquainted.I did take a dim sum menu to-go so I can take a look at it and come back on a weekend for brunch (dim sum=brunch food!), [Also, I might mention that they will do dim sum all days of the week, which other restaurants in town will only do weekends] but this time it was a quick take out lunch that had me at their door. I took a look at their "American" lunch menu and decided on the general tsos chicken lunch plate. The lunch plates come with soup or crab rangoons, and white or fried rice. I went with the white rice and crab rangoons for mine. The plate came with 2 rangoons, a hefty serving of rice, and 4 large pieces of chicken with some broccoli. I thought for $8, that was a good deal. portion wise, good for lunch. I would expect larger portions and more cost for dinner. The food was good, no fakey chicken packed with batter, and the sauce was enough to drown a boat, just the way we Americans like it. I'd love to come back and try some of the more traditional dishes and compare it to the dishes I ate growing up. Service for the take out was exceptional. I was helped by Brin, and not only was he super nice and offered me a water while I waited, but when I tried to pay I was also informed me that "lunch was on him" today. I was blown away! It wasn't creepy in the least, it was just a nice person doing something nice for another stranger. It's not often (read: never) that a stranger shows me so much kindness. He has earned a solid customer and I will not forget his generosity. Thanks to him, I will be making the effort to stop by and eat here more often despite the distance from my house.

We were given a second chance to come here and try the food once again. Service (as compared to last time) was superb. We felt taken care by all staff and has ONE server that was attentive to our needs. The food is still up in the air. Certain dishes were really good- namely the dim sum items we got (Lotus Leaf wrapped Rice, Pork Curd Roll, Shrimp Dumplings, etc.). The more disappointing dishes were the Kung Pao Chicken and Crab Rangoons. The chicken tasted chewy and potentially undercooked while the crab rangoons tasted a bit dry- both in the shelling and the filling. I honestly believe they do try and I'm not sure what exactly it would take to restore them to being my favorite Chinese place again. We will likely be back, but probably just for the Dim Sum items.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
