My wife and I used to come here all the time. We never had a bad experience here, I always got steak and double fried rice. All the chefs here are amazing and very funny.

This place is awesome. Yesterday was my first time going to Genji. My boyfriend took me there as a surprise date. We're already planning our next visit lol. The food was delicious, and the style of having it cooked in front of you is entertaining. The staff was friendly & attentive. The fried rice... I don't even eat fried rice. But a bowl of it from Genji, yes! I had the steak & shrimp. Everything was prepared well, fresh, not overly or under seasoned. If your reading this wondering were to go for dinner. Put the phone down and head to Genji's!

I always get my hopes up about asian food places in Omaha. Me and my friends were looking forward to celebrating her birthday, and decided to give this place a try. While the experience itself was fine, the staff: friendly, the food was a disaster. Not only did they use at least 6 tablespoons of butter with each serving of meat. Everything was SO salty. We couldn't handle it and we were gulping down water as fast as possible. They used this prepared sauce that came out in a squirt bottle for every single thing: the veggies, the meat, the fried rice. Oh my gosh. Just too much salt!! The chef also added salt to all of the ingredients when cooking in addition to the already salty soysauce in the squirt bottle. In addition... they make you do the shrimp catch in the mouth thing. I really preferred not to do it. But I was a good sport... it took me 3 tries to get it in my mouth. Note: the chef doesn't stop until you get it in. So end of story: I left the restaurant with a very oily face from the attempts to catch shrimp in my mouth. Disaster. Needless to say I won't be dining here again. Not a good or authentic teppanyaki experience.

SALMONELLA ANYONE?? The cook flipped the raw chicken onto the grill and in the very same motion, with the very same spatula, he served each person at the table the fried rice. ARE YOU KIDDING? Will never, ever return. Regardless if this was just one cook--one time--that is the very BASIS of cooking. Any restaurant that does not stress the importance of being sanitary in their cooking *especially when it is done infront of the customers* probably has very little cleanliness when out of sight of customers.

Hostess was friendly. Service was quick. Chefs were amazing. The quality of the food here is high and dinner is entertaining. 5 stars.

Man this was fun! One word of caution, the sushi options are extremely limited, just a few rolls to pick from and no Nigeri. The cook was interactive and when we finished the manager even came over to say hi. Funny though, if this is your 1st time here and you want saki, either ask to see the large (or my picture) or be ready to drink. As you can tell, the carafe was half full, or half empty????? :)

Went here last night with my husband and friends. There were 10 of us in total. The service was great. Our service and hibachi cook were both very friendly. As far as food goes, I was a little disappointed in their hibachi veggies. No broccoli, no carrots, no yellow squash. Just zucchini, cabbage, and potatoes. It was still very good, but it definitely needs more variety and color. I had the sirloin and shrimp combination, my husband had the filet mignon and scallops. Everything was perfect, except the filet mignon. Though still tasty, I believe the way it was cooked left a liver/mineral type taste and feel to the meat. If you're all about the whole hibachi scene, definitely give this place a try. There's not a lot to do in Omaha, but there are a little gems to be found here and there.

We had a great experience here. We were able to get a reservation by calling in the afternoon, but the restaurant was quite busy at dinner, a good sign. The performance by our chef was funny and skillful. My two cousins and I shared a grill with another group. Our meat choices were prepared nicely. I got the filet mignon with scallops, and we also had the Genji Steak and Teriyaki Steak, all of which were good. The vegetables, shrimp, and sauces had excellent and unique flavors. I also had the best miso soup I've ever had here - it was more meaty and flavorful than the usual, and had a hint of a smoky flavor. Loved it. One tip if you're new to a place like this: don't wear your white tuxedo, the grilling can be frenetic.

Understand first off that the review is going to vary greatly based on your server and your cook at a place like this. If your cook is not good, the entire experience is brought down and it almost doesn't matter how good the food is. We had a tremendous server and cook. The server was attentive (and hella cute, btw) and she was always right there with the water or asking what else we needed. The cook was a young guy who was very good at his trickeration, and cooked very well. Everything was cooked to perfection. I had the filet, shrimp and scallops. We also had japanese potsticker appetizer which was tremendous. I can't believe I've lived here so long and had never been to this place. They will definitely be seeing more of me in the future. Highly recommended.

I would have probably given it one star had the food not been pretty good, but the experience was unenjoyable. 1. The dim lighting is too dark IMO, hard to see and enjoy the show. It's not dim lighting like romantic or cozy, but more like dark and grungy. 2. Server was terrible. We hadn't even taken off our coats (let alone look at the menu) before she asked us if we wanted any appetizers. When we responded "we haven't even looked at the menu" she rolled her eyes and walked away. Part of being a good server is looking at your table and determining the right questions to ask. Later in the night, we sat there with 2/3 empty glasses and she asks "do you want more water". Well gee, durh? 3. The chef who was cooking for us didn't have much of a personality. You could tell he didn't enjoy his job, was performing a very routine act, and hardly socialized with us. Do I recommend them? No way, go to Kobe and spend your dollars there.

Sushi/Apps were fine. But, then we moved over to this other area where this chef throws around knives and foods sets the grill on fire and creates a six foot bonfire at your table. I could feel the heat on my face and because I had melted the coating on my expensive eye glasses just opening a hot oven, a few years ago, I took off my glasses and put them in my lap. So then I couldn't see anything and it was just pointless. At one point, the guy starts throwing food in people's mouth. He didn't bother to ask if he could throw food at me. Which was aaaaaalright with me. I'll give them credit for figuring that out. The worst part about it was the food off the grill wasn't edible. It was all for show if you ask me. It was like rice and meat soaked in soy sauce. Too salty and too soy saucy. I've never had one note asian food like this. Probably wouldn't go again unless it was for sushi or apps.

We always have a great time here. Jeremy has taken great care of us. We know him (the manager) by name just because of his great customer service. I recomend the Filet, Shrimp, & Scallops.

I'm not even sure where to start with this review, because there's so much to talk about! I'll just do a rundown of the pros and cons... A major upside for Genji is the fact that it's a Japanese steakhouse, and I do love the experiences you get with those. It's never a guarantee, and it really depends on the chef you have working the grill. Ours was fun, had a good sense of humor, and while it all felt a little rehearsed it was still a lot of fun to watch. Plus trying to catch shrimp (that's prawns for my Seattle readers) in your mouth is always fun. I caught 2 out of 4 (not sure why I was singled out to have so much shrimp flung at my head, but whatev). I also really like the variety of fruity drinks with umbrellas that you find at a Japanese steakhouse. Even though they all look the same (between 3 people, we ordered a Mai Tai, a Rum Runner, and a Okinawa Sunset and they all looked identical... must have been the pineapple juice), they are all tasty. I guess the fruit juice might have something to do with it. Some negative points... first of all, the sushi. We ordered a tuna roll, and it tasted off. Almost as if it had been sitting under a heat lamp, maybe? It was definitely not enjoyable. My friend was a little miffed about his shrimp as well. He asked the chef if he could make his portion of shrimp spicy, and the whole routine came to a screeching halt. His face said, "Hey, this is not in the script pal!" and after a few awkward seconds, said, "Um, we have... spicy sauce..." My friend was just looking for a dash of crushed red pepper and some extra cooking time... but I guess the show must go on! The last thing I'll say is to beware the fried rice. Everything on the menu comes with steamed rice, and even though you'll miss the first 25% of the show if you stick with steamed rice, fried rice costs an extra $2 per person. This isn't a huge deal, but it was still a surprise considering the fried rice a pretty pivotal part of the chef's act! The food was OK. So with all those different pros and cons, it just balances out as mediocre for me. Except the sushi. Skipping that next time.

Took the wife for our anniversary. Made reservations via their webpage online and they called to confirm within 2 hours. Bar tender was very attentive. The waitress did a great job. Our tableside chef (only two months on the job) was very entertaining and yet very professional. Our food was prepared to our satisfaction. We will be returning again soon!

One of Omaha's two Japanese Steakhouses. I liked Genji better than Kobe. I thought the food tasted better at Genji (we did not get any sushi, so I am only reviewing the hibachi). You can also substitute noodles for rice here and the noodles were really good. We went for a friends birthday and they add an extra $7 to your bill to take your picture for your birthday. No one at our table asked for this, but they did the birthday picture and added it to the bill. That s the only disappointing part of the evening.

If you like Benihana, you'll like this place. This is a typical sit around a stove while the chef cooks and entertains type deal. Adds some excitement to the whole dinner experience. The food is great here, I'm not gonna sit here and list every dish I've tried here but just rest assure that most of what you order, you'll probably like it, unless you're uber-picky.

We love the food at this place! The atmosphere may be a little dated compared to Kobe Steakhouse but the food here is much better. In addition, kids eat free on Tues and Wed per paid adult. Plus I am happy that they have a good variety: shrimp, steak, fish, chicken and even tofu. There's something that will keep everyone happy! I love that the chicken here isn't dry (seems to be normally at other places). My husband likes the fish, kids love the steak and shrimp. I like tofu with my fried rice. We are regulars and will be back!

We LOVE this place!! We take my son to Japanese Steakhouse every year for his birthday and for the first 10 years we went to the competition. After some bad food, so-so atmosphere and chefs, more than once we decided to try this once. We've come here every year since. The food is always excellent, steaks done perfectly every time for everyone and salmon was delicious!!! The chefs are wonderful and entertaining. Service is always tops! Lots of different combinations to choose from. This was the first year we needed to accommodate a gluten allergy and they did that awesomely while still maintaining the yummiest meals. We were all so happy with our dinners and night!!
