The night we ate here, there was a mariachi band performing. The trumpets were extremely loud, and made it hard to talk. Other than that, the food was pretty great. Very large portions for the price. The shrimp fajita was very delicious, the bell peppers nice and charred. The steak and tomato dish featured a tender, flavorful and thin steak, also with a lovely char.

Brought my friend here for lunch. Very disappointing. The salsa was virtually perfect with a nice kick. The chips were a little greasy. My taquitos were flavorless and had a couple of chunks of avocado on them, but I expected guacamole. My friend's fajita was bland. The chicken was tasteless and she had to pull the tails off the shrimp. Absolutely no taste to the Refried beans, bummer. I would have loved to have tamales, but none on the menu.

This was my first visit to El Dorado, but I think I'll be back. It's a great restaurant for someone like me who wants to try something new, but not TOO adventurous. Since this was my first visit, I stuck to an old standby-a chile relleno (Item #1). It had a good balance between cheesy filling and meaty chile. The rice and beans were tasty (but just bland enough to complement the pepper). The group I was dining with shared a seafood parrillada (Item C on the menu). This is a huge platter of assorted seafood, served atop a charcoal-fueled chafing dish. The scent of the charcoal really gets the mouth watering! I'm not a huge fan of seafood, but I enjoyed all of the items I tried. Ordering a 2-person sized parrillada would be perfect for a group of about 6 people--I can't fathom two people finishing it and still having room for an entree. It's not exactly cheap (about $17 per person), but it's really enjoyable for the scents, the tastes, and the conversational value. Our server was helpful and had no problems communicating in English. She completely disappeared for about half an hour, but that didn't cause any problems for us. Finally, I should mention that there were no unpleasant after-effects from the meal--surprising after all the seafood and spices and beans we consumed. Tips: Look at the menu online before your first visit--there are a lot of decisions to make. Come prepared to park on a busy street or in a dark alley. Bring a few friends and plan to spend a few hours for dinner. Atmosphere: 2-3 stars; Service: 3 stars; Entree: 4 stars; Presentation of food: 3 stars; Parrillada: 5 stars.

There is no way to give negative 5 stars so it's their lucky day, they get 1 star. What a difference from my previous visit. They brought my sister the wrong dish, she sent it back to the kitchen and they still tried to charge her. Our expensive order was drenched in old oil and nothing in the dish was remotely fresh or even hot. We sent it back and the new dish came out the exact same way. I tried to force myself to eat some but it just wasn't happening. Crummy food, crummy service. Yuck. I will never return. Eek!

Ok, so we went here with a large lunch group. The food was horrid. I had the ribeye/shrimp the ribeye was one of the greasiest, full of oil poor tasting pieces of meat I have ever had. I did not even eat a 1/4 of it even though I was famished. The shrimp was soo overcooked you could not get it out of its shell and was like jerky. It all tasted like it was cooked in old oil I sampled some bits of others with me and they were all not good. 6 other people all left there plates full of food because it was soo horrendous. then afterwards I read the douglas county health review and it explains it all. Thumbs Down on the ground

This place is beyond a five star. It was SO delish. Seasoned to perfection-- sometimes you get seasoned foods that have an "off" seasoning in there... but this do not have that. I've gone here before- I purchased the traditional Mexican entrees--- taco, enchiladas etc... and I wasn't super impressed but since I noticed they pride themselves in seafood... I decided to try it again and this time order SEAFOOD! Best decision of the day! Service was excellent. Decor was cute. And customers were very nice as well... so the dinning experience was super nice. Very thing is VERY REASONABLY priced!!! On to the food-- We ordered ceviche and Platter A (We had 3 adults and 2 children and this was entirely too much food for us... but I am not complaining about that). The platter: It had 4 different types of beef-- the steak had a delicious grilled tomato sauce on it... it was beyond delish! The other three types of beef were very tender and I had minimal chewing action-- so that let's you know that the meat was cooked properly! There was chicken--- seasoned so WELL and grilled-- it was amazing. There was what seemed like-- ENDLESS SEAFOOD- Oyster Crab Legs Huge Shrimp Scallops Squid Octopus Fish -- I am sure there was more... I just can't think of anything else. All the seafood was seasoned SO WELL, grilled -- the only thing battered was the shrimp ... Everything was excellent. The pics don't do any justification... because you can't see all the seafood that is underneath the first layer of food. There were plantains... OMG SOOOO YUMMMY!!! Probably the best I've had in Omaha... they were just little slices of HEAVEN! Fried potatoes, grilled green onions, grilled jalapenos and other misc veggies! Tortillas came with the meal as well. The platter A... comes with a minimum of 3 people... So you pay $16.99 per person... and each person gets rice and beans... and there are three diff homemade salsas that they bring out... which are divine (Green, Regular & Mega hot). The Ceviche... was AMAZING!!!!!!!! FRESH FRESH FRESH! Came with a lot of fresh avocados!! It was amazing!! Horchata was good. It was a little sweeter than I like... but I am not a huge fan of Horchata but the folks I was with love Horchata and I heard no complaints. This is a MUST TRY! This was top 5 restaurants in the Omaha area BY FAR! I didn't taste t

Went here with my in law and, it was my first time but, she informed me her and, her father always came to this restaurant. I actually only tried the chicken tacos and they were great. I will go back to try more :)

I love this place! If you're looking for good Mexican, South O is the place and Él Dorado is the best. They have a good sized menu and there is nothing bad on it. I've had enchiladas, chile rellenos, burritos, and more, all good! They are known for the seafood dishes and ice cream! Highly recommended!

Me gusta!!!! Try the cerviche, coctel ostiones, and the lobster pasta. Great Mexican seafood and the owner has novelas on the big screen so you get drama with your meal :)

This is the first time in my life I have ever walked out of a restaurant. The rice, beans and Chile rellenos were a tad colder than lukewarm. The grease on my wife's taco De lengua was white and lardy. When we complained the waitress took the food in the back and micro waved it including the salad. Bad experience enter at your own risk. I did have the Al pastor taco that was being prepared out front and that was above average but not spectacular.

This is one of my favorite stops when I'm in south Omaha. They have the best Al Pastor taco in town in my opinion.

I have been to the restaurant a handful of times and each time I think something different about it. I always order shrimp cocktails and it is always good. The service on the other hand varies. Sometimes service is fast and friendly. Other times it's slow but still friendly. It all depends on what day you go and who is working, I do not know how to tell which day will be fast and what day will be slow. First time I went we had excellent service, the waitress gave us our chips and salsa, took our orders, and in a few minutes our food was done. This last time it took 15 minutes to get our chips, 10 minutes to get our order, 20 minutes for our food, and then 45 minutes to get our check. That night the waitresses were talking to each other which I believe that may have had something to do with the service. Which no real complaints because I know how it can get sometimes, which is totally understandable.

Authentic Mexican food! It was delicious and I will go back. I am giving it 4 stars just because the mariachi band was REALLY REALLY loud.

I love this place and can't get enough of it. I am gone quite often on deployments and one thing I really look forward too is eating some good mexican food (El Dorado) the owners and employees are always very welcoming to me and have yet to dislike anything ive ordered. I highly recommend the carnitas plate, chilli verde ribs, and one of my favorites are the pastor tacos. Been gone for a really long time but i will be home Friday . El dorado here I come

The food was amazing. Very good prices. Only gave it four stars because the service is shotty. Thier menu is mostly in Spanish, but there is a lot to choose from!!

Excellent food and good service. The salsa was great. I'm not a huge seafood fan, but the ham that was roasting outside the front door smelled delicious (and was)! The Coke comes in glass bottles so be sure and try that too. If we get back to Omaha, we will be back.

Such a pleasant surprise! I am from southern California and was craving some good mexican food. The service here was friendly, the decor exactly what I wanted to see and the food was AMAZING! I ordered the fajitas which came with a combination of steak, chicken and shrimp-quite tasty! Ian ordered some steak entree and that was also super delicious and tender. I can't wait to go back again!

There is no way to give 0 stars so I guess I will give 1 star. This is far from carne adada and el pastor. Not sure what but definitely not authentic. We ordered micheladas for ourselves and the kids got horchata and tamarindo. They got straight up sugar water. We asked to get something else for the kids and the manager came to us angry. She said no one else had complained about the drinks and she tried them herself and they were fine. Uh, ok! And we ordered guacamole and there was hair in it. Still waiting on the water we asked for 3 times as well. Never again! Not sure how this place has such good reviews. Perhaps it's because no one around here knows what real Mexican food is. The only thing authentic here is the mariachi band, flies and the guy selling roses. C'mon guys you're making omaha look bad!

I hate to give this place only 3/5 stars because they deserve more, unfortunately their server or cook ruined my 3rd trip here for me. This place is in a great spot in the heart of South Omaha in the midst of many other taco places and mexican restaurants. If you are looking for true Mexican, Salvadorian, Puerto Rican, and other South/Central American cuisine, this is the right area. We walked in and sat down in the large hall type seating area. Nice TVs with soccer on to watch and other various items of Mexican/Salvadorean decor. The first time we ordered your standard carne asada tacos and some tacos al pastor. The asada tacos were great and so were the al pastor. Not the greatest I've had but they were up there. The second time we ended up ordering their cochnita pibil tacos. They were the most delicious, moist, juicy, tacos I've ever eaten. The flavor was just so amazing I had to stop and think about it. However, the 3rd time we ate here we asked if they had cochnita pibil made yet (they slow cook it for a day at a time). They said yes they did, and we ordered 4 cochnita pibil tacos. To our dismay, we were served carne asada tacos. We thought for sure we had a mix up and talked to our waitress who insisted that they were cochnita pibil and not carne asada and that we did not know what we were talking about. We quietly finished our meal and paid, the receipt said "4 tacos carne asada" on it. We made no complaints to the manager but we will probably not be back for a very long time. UPDATE: Went back for a 4th time and the cochnita pibil was as good as always. I guess it really depends on what service you get and who your server is.

I'd heard of El Dorado before and we had lunch here recently to use up a Restaurant.com coupon. I will say that the prices were pretty obscenely cheap, as we really had to work hard to spend $30 for 2 people at lunchtime. As such I think we had a pretty good sampling of the menu offerings - though I'm not really a fan of seafood Mexican dishes (except fish tacos!), and their platters are apparently what El Dorado is known for... oh well. Unless they make all their other dishes differently, I think we still got enough of an idea to say that ultimately things just didn't have a lot of flavor. Seems impossible, right? Still, that was our take-home message of the meal. Guacamole, chips, salsa, fish tacos, chicken enchiladas, steak torta and margaritas. It was all edible. It all included good ingredients. It just didn't impress me. The interior of the restaurant was festive and clean. Soccer on the TVs and loud mariachi music playing from the jukebox. A large and detailed menu with nice pictures (though it was mostly in Spanish). We were probably also the only people in the restaurant that didn't speak Spanish. For anyone who's afraid of that type of culture shock I would say don't worrk (if I were recommending you go here, which I'm not really). I don't know... it just left me a little disappointed. Especially with so many other restaurant options within walking distance. I can't see a reason I'd make it back to El Dorado anytime soon.

A friend told me to give this place a try. After reading the two other reviews I decided to have lunch there with my coworker. Upon arrival we seated ourselves in a booth on the far side of the building. The place was clean and airy with plenty of room between tables. Our server took our drink orders and brought us some warm corn tortilla chips along with a dark red salsa speckled with freshly chopped onion, tomatoes, alot of cilantro and jalapeno peppers. It was a little too spicy for my co-worker but I found it to have a nice bite to it although a bit to much cilantro for me. Our iced tea was from instant mix and warm until the ice melted and weakened the flavor. Lunch was Shrimp Fajitas for him and Steak Fajitas for me. The menu said "Ribeye steak tossed with red and green peppers along with red and white onion seasoned with special fajita seasoning served on a hot skillet tableside". The ribeye if that's what it was, was tough and tasteless as they must have forgot to put on the special seasoning. The vegetables were undercooked a bit and overall the entre' had no flavor at all. It was served with mexican rice which was a clump of red colored rice with pieces of tomato peaking out. Also on the side plate was refried mushy beans (could not eat with a fork as they would run through the tines) and a small pile of salad torn lettuce with a black dried out half sliced radish. My co-worker's shrimp dish was pretty much the same. He said he was not impressed and it probably wouldn't make even his top 100 dining places in Omaha. They do have a large menu with many offerings so I will have to give the place another try sometime in all fairness. Noticing the local families around me I did eye alot of very interesting and good looking dishes. Perhaps a more "authentic" meal is in order. Service was good and the server friendly. I will give this place another try. HAGD, Moe

Great food, but fairly pricey. Yucatan style I believe. They specialize in seafood, but I tend to order the food that used to walk. My favorite dish is the Cochinita Pibil. Perfectly seasoned slow roasted pork thats wrapped in a banana leaf is hard to beat

This place was fun. There was a definite language barrier. The girls that helped us couldn't speak a word of English and had to get someone to translate. The food was okay. I think I'm just more used to americanized Mexican (tex-mex). The fresh squeezed orange juice was amazing. Definitely worth a try if you visit. The food was very different than I've experienced and it was pretty good. The orange juice was the best I'd ever had:)

Coming here was a happy accident. I stumbled upon it and decided to just go in and hope for the best. The outside doesn't give you any clue of what quality lies inside. The decor is nice, but not posh, it's just comfortable. I went in and picked a booth as it's seat yourself. I passed by a table with a couple eating from this huge plate of seafood with jumbo shrimp on it. I immediately got excited. The menu is huge. If you are a seafood fan, this place will knock your socks off. They have a little over a dozen combo platters for two that allow you to try different seafoods and and meats they offer. The selection of soups and salads were suprising too. They have a lot of normal mexican fare, but you can tell from the menu pictures they pride themsleves on coastal food. I went for a smaller platter to try the steak, quail and shrimp. It was all just fabulous. I can't praise this place highly enough. I loved the food. I didn't have any cocktails, but saw a couple other tables, and they looked really pretty too. Service was friendly and helpful.

The food was amazing. Very good prices. Only gave it four stars because the service is shotty. Thier menu is mostly in Spanish, but there is a lot to choose from!!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
