First visit here, came in for lunch. Nice decor, very clean establishment, super friendly staff. Ordered the Big Burro. WOW, big burrito overstuffed with meat, smothered in cheese with Spanish rice and beans on the side. Coming back here again for sure.

Worst Mexican restaurant in Omaha. I'd rather go to Michael's in the old Market, and for the record Michael's serves garbage with a side of crap. I just want the reader of this review to understand, how I would rather eat garbage and a side of crap. Then eat at El Aguila. It's mostly due to the owner of El Aguila, who is a pompous butt hole. He has no people skills, respect, and or just basic human decency, Trust me. He is the worst customer I have to deal with, and if doesn't learn some manners, I'll have to knock his old ass out. In other words, do not support such mean old man, by eating there.

El Aguila was quite delicious. I went here for the first time today, along with my wife, and my brother and his family. We arrived about 4:45 on a Saturday afternoon, and there wasn't a Saturday evening rush to speak of. We started off with an appetizer sampler that consisted of guacamole, salsa, re-fried beans with cheese on top, and a runny nacho cheese dip with enchilada sauce mixed in. We prefer corn chips, although you're given a choice of corn, flour or mixed. All of our meals that we ordered came with a choice of flour or corn tortillas. I ordered the steak fajitas, and they were delicious. My sizzling pan came with a heaping pile of green & red bell peppers, with onions thinly sliced and mounds of steak. A separate plate included my re-fried beans with cheese, mexican rice, guacamole, pico, and sour cream. After filling the four, warm corn taco shells (again a choice of flour or corn) I was stuffed. The food was delicious, and the helpings were generous, for the price. We were all satisfied, and I will admit, this is a go-to restaurant for delicious mexican food in Omaha.

Great patio! Every time we are thinking about eating Mexican food in this area of town we end up choosing El Aguila for it's patio, carne asada tacos (great homemade corn tortillas) and chips & dips sampler. It's cool that they have a 60 oz margarita and I've ordered it on more than one occasion, but the margaritas are like most Mexican restaurants, too sweet. Which is fine for one but I don't know how anyone could down a 60 ouncer.

Has gone slightly down hill. They made changes to the chicken.

This place has been on my wish list forever. It came highly recommended from a friend who spent a year studying abroad in Mexico. Unfortunately, it's near 18th street and I live closer to 218th street, so it's never been convenient for me to give it a try. I finally decided to make the drive here to eat for lunch on a Saturday in December. The restaurant is located in the "Vinton Street Commercial Historic District." Which is basically an old business district on Vinton between 13th and 24th (roughly). There is street parking as well as a private lot adjacent to the restaurant. They serve primarily Amercanized Mexican food. Theirs is definitely slanted more toward the authentic side than the Tex-Mex side, so it should make both those groups of diners happy. It is a nice restaurant inside. Clean, well-maintained, good décor, and spacious. I hear a lot of customers raving about how awesome their outdoor dining area is, but since it was a cold and wet December afternoon it wasn't open. Our party of 7 was seated at a large round table. Salsa was already on the table in one of those pour dispensors, but the salsa was so thick it didn't want to come out of the container. Chips were not brought until after our order was placed. I would have liked them to be a little quicker with the chips. You have a choice of corn, flour, or mixed chips. All are good, but I prefer the corn. Corn tortilla chips are just more snackable. Flour chips are good and a nice change of pace, but after 5 or 6 I am tired of eating them. Salsa was good. Not great, but good. I didn't even think to ask if they had additional salsas they could bring us (a spicy one, a green one, etc.). We also ordered queso. It was a bit on the runny side, but everyone seemed to like it. They were a bit stingy on the chips. They kept bringing only one basket for our large party and we kept asking for more. Stop with the chip rationing already. I ordered the Mexican Chili (as opposed to the American/Gringo Chili they also serve). It was tasty. It's served with tortillas (corn, flour, or mix). For my entrée I got the Burro de Asada which was a huge smothered burrito. I could barely eat half of it after my chili and the chips. It was very good. Other diners had tacos from the kids menu (quite large for kids tacos), enchiladas, and tamales. They all enjoyed their food. Only complaint was price. My brother's family (2 adults and 4 kids) spent $74 on lunch (not including tip). That's a bit ridiculous when 4 of them ordered off of the children's menu. They do have discounted weekday lunch specials for $5.99. Also, they have a website, but their menu isn't on it. Why not?! Overall, good food in a neat locale, but the price will probably prevent this from being a regular dining spot. There's just too many other better Mexican restaurants at a lower price point and closer to my end of town.

Worst Mexican food outside of taco bell. I've never had saltier guacamole. Do yourself a favor and go to Taqueria Tijuana or La Esmeralda.

Do not eat here. I was eating dinner and a roach crawled across my table. I spoke with the owner and he did nothing he didn't even apologize. I didn't need a free meal but an apology at the least. Then he tried to tell me it was normal that they crawl out of the pipes and they are water roaches. Makes me worry what is going on in the kitchen ..... Gross! The owner needs to be reeducationed on customer service and Health regulations!

Went here twice. The first time was about 2 years ago. Went with a large group for a luncheon. I was expecting a lot as I paid 14.50 for just myself in advance. This bought me a plate with a bit of rice and beans (very standard) and two taco-bell sized tacos. Iced tea with free refills was included. The tacos were better than taco bell, but not by much. I was really expecting more based on word of mouth. Recently I was talked into going again. I thought maybe if I tried something more adventurous I'd be impressed but not so. There might be some magic item I'm missing but I won't go back. I think taco bell is fairly gross, but I'd rather spend 3 dollars on that than 15 on about the same thing.

In for lunch, I ordered the chile rellenos, and the first bite made me realize that they were not fresh. The freezerburn gave that away. Smothering it in melted cheese may have helped mask the soggy breaded mess, but I left feeling disheartened. Even the "fresh" cilantro sprig garnish was wilted. (They certainly could grow frsh cilantro this late into June, or find it fresh at the farmers market.) Sides of standard bland rice and refried beans out of the can. A definite pass.

Ate here last night with a group of friends. They have an amazing patio and amazing margaritas (try the 60oz one!). I've eaten here several times, and the patio and margs are what brings me back. The food is good and the portions are large. I normally get the chimichanga which is the shredded steak kind and a beef taco. Their taco's are huge and delicious (they are the kind with the fried flour tortilla shell). The service is always top notch as well. I'd also like to point out this place is always immaculately clean. It's not your typical dive South Omaha sketchy Mexican Restaurant. I was shocked at how nice and clean the bathrooms were. They were spotless.

I would have rather eaten Mexican jumping beans. Estoy tan triste. No bueno. No no bueno.

I would say this is just another typical Mexican restaurant. The food is pretty good and the service is just the same. I mean how bad can you screw something up when it is smothered in cheese? They have the same menu as most Mexican places in Omaha and it's all around the same price. Nothing too out of the ordinary. Oh except the Mariachi band that goes from table to table and sings La Bamba, La Cucaracha, and the song from Desperado over and over again... Kinda funny actually. Dinner run around $10.

I have lived by El Aguila's since I was young, long enough to remember when the mother owned it and the sons were the chef and manager of the place so I think. Now one of the sons owns the place and surprisingly the food has not changed much. If Mexican food is what you are craving do yourself a favor and visit this place. They do a good lunch crowd but most of the time I am in there by myself and I sit a the bar and still get really good service. The food is really good and plentiful and nicely priced. true Mexican food maybe not since I get the feeling it is dumbed down since most of the patrons are not of Mexican back ground. They do have Spanish speaking staff for those who have trouble with English. If you have not gone there do... you can thank me later.

A decent Mexican restaurant in the heart of South Omaha. The place is pretty big. The waitress was nice and it didn't take very long to get our food. I haven't encountered any spectacular dish here but no bad experiences either. Just an average mexican restaurant with good food and service.

Both times I've visited El Aguila with a small group of people, we've found ourselves helped by friendly but not overbearing wait staff and served tasty, decently-portioned food. For the full experience, park at Bag'n'Save across and dodge traffic while crossing Vinton St. The food proves so delicious, you'll only feel right if you know you've earned the right to eat it.

Great food! Great atmosphere! As a mexican myself I appreciate the authenticity of their food. The Carnitas are superb.

Wow did we screw up randomly picking this place. over priced and not even good salsa for the chips and i think they charged us for chips and salsa. kinda tasted like ketchup. overpriced. The waitress said the owner wasnt cool with my kids hanging around over by the cool looking parrot they have outside. I would suggest not putting a parrot outside then. besides not great salsa food was very average if not a bit below average.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
