What's not to love about the Brazen Head? - There's a great atmosphere, and the woodwork is lovely. - Everything on the menu looks yummy. The hot wings are big and juicy, the onion soup is creamy and rich, and the potato skins are addicting. Entree portions are big, so you may have lunch the next day! Also: waffle fries. Yesssss. - Live Irish bands on Wednesday nights after 7. It can get a little loud, so be prepared. - It's the only place I know of that has Kilkenny, which I am quite nostalgic for. Be sure to try one of their many Irish coffees as well. - Half off apps after 10 PM on weekdays for the late-nighters, like me in college. I have fond memories of this place, and still enjoy the Brazen Head for some filling food and a pint (or three).

In town for business at the hospital nearby, we headed to Brazen Head Irish Pub for lunch. It's incredibly close and a nice and quiet, sit down place, great for a business lunch. Located in a bland strip mall, the historic Irish interior is a nice surprise and the environment welcoming. Service was fast. We were seated quickly, served quickly and food came quickly. Our server kept our drinks full as well! Prices were also really great, $10 or $11 for an entree. While everyone at the table had very yummy looking salads (both the mango salmon and cobb salad), I went against all my willpower and had the delicious reuben. It's an Irish pub. That justifies it right? The food was good. It wasn't outstanding, or unique or extremely memorable, but it was warm, delicious, cheap and fast. I'd definitely return, especially to try some of the Irish entrees like bangers and mash, corned beef and cabbage or these boxy's I keep reading about. Our business client also said the French onion soup is to die for.

I have been to Brazen Head many times before, but this time we had reservations in the Robert Emmett Room which looks like it may have been a former smoking/cigar room in its past. It has its own small bar stocked with some of the best Irish Whiskey's around. Small enough for three tables, but with lots of comfy chairs around the perimeter. I had the Bangers and Mashed which was delicious, I couldn't put my fork down, the sausages with gravy and caramelized onions were perfect on a bed of mashed potatoes. My friend had the Colonial Boy Boxty which are potato pancake wrapped in a variety of ingredients. I want to back and enjoy this room again one day...

Pros: Good fish and chips Cons: Terrible Corned-beef sandwich Brazen Head isn't my favorite Irish-themed bar in Omaha. That goes to the Dubliner, but this isn't a bad place to go. Sure, the atmosphere feels a bit artifical, but there's worse. The beer and alcohol selection is pretty solid. Not the best, but good selection overall. I like the fish and chips. Pretty tasty. However, the corned-beef sandwich is one of the worst I've ever had. That, along with the vibe the place can get on a busy night (not the best), knock off two stars. Not a bad bar, but know what food to order and when to come here.

Stopped by here with my date on a Sunday and was pleasantly surprised to find they had all-you-can-eat fish and chips. We each ordered that, along with a couple of the hot coffee drinks since it was cold outside. Coffee's arrived and were good. The extras in the coffee were noticeable, but not overpowering at all. The fish and chips arrived and I went to town. Chips were thick and tasty, and the fish had a good taste and wasn't over-battered. The only problem I had was that the initial plate was so big that there really wasn't a need for more, so the all-you-can-eat is not for the meek! My rating is actually more like a 3.5, but I didn't feel like rounding up to 4 since I wasn't quite that impressed. Still, I have no complaints. The service was good, the food and drink were good, and I'll return!

After moving from England to Nebraska I have been constantly disappointed with the fish and chips when suggested by friends. Dino's in Lincoln was awful, the only decent one in Lincoln is at Green Gateau. But Brazen Head in Omaha has the true taste of real Fish and Chips. I grew up in a small fishing town in the southwest of England, so know my fish. The first mouthful took me right back down memory lane and they even had the malt vinegar to compliment the dish. I also tried their 'Galic Wings', hot wings to my American friends and they were big, meaty, and delicious. Not too spicy or gloppy, just right. They also have Carlsburg on tap which was a blessing. The place is cozy and inviting all year round. I drive all the way from Lincoln to this place just to get my fix. I brought two friends who are chef's at a gourmet restaurant here in Lincoln and they were blown away. Older people may dine at this place but at night it becomes more fiesty and youthful. Older people have been around the block and know their food!

Outside of Dubliner, Brazen Head is the best Irish Pub in town. I don't know how authentic it is when compared to its brethren in Ireland but I love the dark wood and the overall look of this place. I wish it were in a stand alone building rather than a strip mall but that's really the only knock on this place. The food is good and the beer selection and prices are decent. On my most recent visit, the service was top-notch. It may be a while but I'll definitely make another trip back.

I love the Brazen Head. It is a very cool place, comfortable and very pub like :) I usually get their stew and it is always very yummy. They have a wide selection of beers both domestic and imported. The staff is very friendly and the establishment is clean. This is overall a very good pub.

It's a great pub with a classic feel. You just have to know when to avoid it if you don't want to be mobbed by people. So that means, St. Paddy's Day is out because this place is a mad house that day. Also the 'anything for $1' Thursday nights get obscenely packed as well. The menu is good, and pricing is fair. Just know what you want to get out of the experience and show up during a time that suits your expectations. In fact, despite all it's flaws (can you say strip mall) Brazen Head is my favorite Irish Pub in town.

Stopped by last night for something besides chicken. Both my husband and I got boxties - him the brigade with shrimp and crab and me the cordon bleu (pretty self explanatory). They were great. sweet and potato-y with a heavy cream sauce that complemented both the cake and the fillings equally well. We sat at the bar and that was okay but I would like to see a bit more friendliness from the wait staff (esp the bar staff). The service was fine though. With a few HH beers and a dessert our bill was 51 after tax and tip - not too bad. We both went home full and happy so its a win in my book.

It'll be a while before we go back. Service was fine but the food took "phoned in" to a whole new level. Chicken on the McCaslin melt was bone dry and fries were lukewarm. But passable. The real crime was the Bangers and Mash. One would think that ordering Bangers and Mash at an Irish pub would be a good choice. One would be wrong. The sausages had a strange pasty quality, the mashed potatoes were serviceable but the showstopper was the peas. How hard is it to cook peas? The ones we were served were straight out of a can and salted beyond belief. "Disappointing" doesn't even come close. To her credit, the server took the Bangers and Mash off our bill. When we're in the mood for mediocrity we might consider it but we'll most likely opt for cooking at home. Ugh.

I really enjoy the Brazen Head, especially their creamy baked onion soup. Service could be a tad better, but overall a great place.

Got the pot pie. It was great. This was a Wednesday and there was a live band playing Irish music. It was lively in the place but not packed. It was exactly what I was looking for while traveling on business in Omaha.

  • Gene X.

Hm, I think I like this place because I got to see a fight there, and there were lots of hoochie girls here getting very wasted and stripper dancing and grinding on guys. This is a departure from my normal scene and proved to be more entertaining than an art opening, punk show, or even mud wrestling. Well, mud wrestling is actually more entertaining... But Thursday is dollar drinks for pretty much anything you want. $1 for a shot of Jameson is pretty nice...

The Brazen Head is best for their beer choices. Some of the food is pretty good, including the fish and chips, which is hard to find done well in the Midwest. I'd rank the B.H. a little below the Dundee Dell, but certainly respectable. Other dishes didn't do much for me, but then, British pub food is hardly gourmet. :-) But the beer ... they have a lot of choices, including "mixed" beers (black-and-tan, snakebite, etc.) Prices are fair, if not necessarily cheap. The also host some good live music, although what I like best is going to the B.H. when it's less busy as they stay open late even on Sunday night, and it's a good place to chat with friends (just don't go on a weekend/live music night). As for atmosphere ... I think they may be trying a bit hard, but overall, it does have the British pub feel, and I quite like the dark wood. Any time I've been there, the waitstaff was polite and attentive. Never yet had a rude person.

Great food and good atmosphere. One of our family favorites, would go more often if we lived closer. My favories are the fish n chips, diablo chicken, patty melt and the brian boru boxty (awesome). Love fresh Guiness too.

Delicious homemade Irish food and lots of beer on tap. Live music on the weekends. We enjoyed this place and will definitely be back.

I've had nothing less than attentive service and delicious food here. Their baked onion soup is fantastic! The staff is fun and polite - Saturday mornings are great for catching a soccer game and lunch. It starts to get kind of busy during football games, though.

The Brazen Head defines schizophrenic identity for a restaurant/pub. On one hand, wander in there at certain times and you'll see frat packs not even pretending to be classy, just there because it's close to campus and in a strip mall, which is what they live for. The girls probably just got fake tans a few shops down. On the other hand, the ownership tries to keep it a classy, semi-authentic spot, even in a strip mall. The bar and some of their other furnishings were shipped in from Ireland, and they do a good job of bringing together Irish style food with American tastes. Their food rarely disappoints, and usually impresses. They offer the right beers, have special rooms for private gatherings, yet don't put on pretension. Overall, a pretty good spot most of the time, and definitely a place worth checking out.

I have friends and family in Omaha, so I travel up that way occasionally. A couple summers ago, one of my friends brought me here for lunch. Since that trip, I've been back in here at least 3-4 times. I've been to quite a few of these types of places, and I'm pretty picky about what can rightfully be called Irish Pub food. That said, the fish & chips is spot on, and the boxties (potato pancakes) are a real treat! I was slightly less pleased with the bangers & mash, though it was still pretty good. If just for the food, I'd give this place a 3-star rating, but having a multitude of tasty adult beverages and knowing how to make some decent beer combos (black & black is very tasty) puts this place up to 4-stars for me. I'll definitely be coming back again and again!

It's funny to read other reviews about what an Irish Pub "should" be like...I have spent a considerable amount of time in Ireland and it's pubs...just because the Brazenhead is in a strip mall doesn't un-authenticate it! The smoked turkey sandwich with waffle fries is my ultimate comfort food. Some of the staff are Irish and most of the staff are attentive and friendly. They have cold Smithwicks and know how to serve a pint of Guinness or a shot of Jameson. They know that Irish Coffee doesn't involve Baileys. They have Irish trad music from bands with Irish members. I have been in the Brazenhead Pub in Dublin...our Omaha Brazenhead looks/feels similar. BTW..."authentic" Irish food like blood sausage and sheep parts...don't think Omaha is ready for that so I am fine with what some may think of as Applebee's fare. Nothing about the Brazenhead makes me think of Applebees's. They also have a great room for small groups that has a private bar and leather furniture. The Brazenhead reminds me of the warm, dark pubs of the Irish countryside I know and fell in love with.

The bar is kind of small but the food is good. Value/Price right on..

Irish is right, it does seem a bit fake, but it is a theme bar, and this isn't Ireland - fake is to be expected. I normally go there for lunch so I can't address the crowd at night, during the day it is just business people and families. They have a really good menu and decent pricing. Try the boxty, not as much potato as I would normally expect, but pretty good nevertheless. The Reuben's are also good as are the fish and chips, as Irish mentions. In a refreshing twist they actually bring you out malt vinegar instead of tarter sauce, how's that for authentic! :-)

If you have ever been to Ireland and loved the bars there then you will love this place. My friend and I ate lunch here and walking in the door it immediately took me back to a few pubs I stopped at when I was in Ireland. The food was hot and fresh and waitstaff was as friendly as can be.

Brazen Head. An Omaha Classic. from talking with the bartender we learned the bar was made in Ireland for the location and shipped here. Always a great time the food is decent pub fare. The service is either wonderful or questionable. The patio is great to be out on but the service always sucks if we are out there. Overall though I still give it 4 stars. the fish and chips are great. the bangers and mashed are wonderful. toad in a hole is very nice. If you want a great little pub trip with some good irish fare this is your place

It was the day before St. Patrick's Day and all, so I thought why not head to the Brazen Head for an authentic Irish meal. Sure it was crowded, but we were able to get a table after waiting only a minute. We shared two dishes -- Toad In A Hole and the County Cork Boxty. The Toad In A Hole was basically mashed potatoes with banger sausages wrapped in puffy pastry shells, all topped with sauce. Really rich and quite heavy. Not a lot of flavors popped aside from the greasy sausage meat. The boxty was a bit better -- asparagus, crab meat and havarti cheese wrapped up in a slightly sweet potato pancake and topped with a creamy sauce. Again, really rich and filling and best washed down with a glass o' Guinness. In all, the food was perfectly tasty and unique in the fact you can't get that type of food elsewhere in Omaha. Next time, Irish food be damned, I'm ordering the Jamaican jerk wings. I also have to mention the interior -- apparently it was designed and built in Ireland and then shipped and installed in that quaint little strip mall on 78th street we all love so much. Really, it is quite cozy and inviting.

I LOVE this bar! The veggie boxtys are out of this world good. My husband and I went there after a five mile run and split their quesadilla appetizer, each got a beer, and then each got our own boxtys. Ask for them to add their Irish cheddar to it. It takes it to a whole other level. (And doesn't cost you extra!) I will definitely be coming here for St. Patrick's Day!

  • Seth D.

If soccer is on you will find me here. The boxty is great, the bangers are authentic, and the beer is good. It has a kids menu and a pub atmosphere so my son can come watch a match with me. We really enjoy this place.

Met friends here I hadn't seen in a year. They suggested Brazen Head, which was walking distance from my hotel, so I thought it was perfect. I reviewed the menu and was ready to go. The main room really is gorgeous. I read here on yelp that everything was built in Ireland and shipped over. I assume it's true. It's definitely got great atmosphere. I tried two items for which Brazen Head is famous. 1. Creamy Baked Onion Soup - I'm not sure there's anything else to be said! Aside from some stringy cheese, which makes a soup with cheese difficult to eat, there was nothing about this soup that wasn't delicious. So smooth and creamy with a onion flavor that was not overpowering. It would have been enough by itself, but I had to try a boxty!! They all sounded so good, mostly decadent. Trying to eat somewhat healthy, I opted for the veggie. I was a little concerned it would be a letdown since it only had vegetables, but I was very pleasantly surprised. The potato pancake makes a fantastic wrap - pretty light and flavorful. I imagine most of us are used to wraps being something like a tortilla... I don't know, more of a vehicle to hold the insides in one place rather than being something that contributes to the overall flavor of the dish. The potato pancake 'takes the cake'... get it? It was good and the veggies inside really were fresh. Top all that with the Boursin cheese sauce and this was one heck of a tasty meal. Oh... it was really too much, but I ate it all. If I ever stay at the same hotel, I will definitely walk across the street to try out another boxty. If I do, I'll skip the soup. Both together was just too much... for me, at least. I just read my review after posting it and I'm amazed. Every time I try to make a numbered list I always seem to screw it up!

The Brazen Pub is, to paraphrase Jeremy Clarkson, beautiful, but you can't explain why. What I mean is that in some ways it seems as ruthlessly fake as a corprate shill dressed up in a red wig and green costume pretending to be a leprechan. The obnoxious little leprechan garden gnomes over the bar, the angry, laconic American staff, the overabundance of Guinness signs, mirrors and paraphanelia (Guinness is Irish and so is the bar, I GET IT ALREADY, STOP TRYING SO HARD) all make me feel like the pub was overly deliberate in its design, more like an Irish themed bar from an amusement park than a pub that naturally accumulated its charm. Confused by that sentence? Ok... you know Applebees? You know how Applebees puts a bunch of shit on their walls to make it feel like a down-home local joint? You know completely transparent that kind of shillery is? That's what I'm talking about. With all of the above in mind, the Brazen Head still manages to please. For all the obvious effort the owners/builders put into the place, it somehow balances equal parts phoniness (as described above) and authenticity (that feeling sitting at the bar, enjoying a pint and ordering from a menu that actually has Irish pub fare on it). While I may not like the feeling that they "tried too hard", the fact is that they did a damn good job for an Omaha strip-mall bar. Ignoring the aforementioned quibbles, the bar really does look, and almost feel, like a classic pub. The food is great, the selection is good and the Guinness (that all-important, all-defining Irish beer) tastes like Guinness. I may sound a bit harsh on the Brazen Head in this review, but know that despite all my complaints about the place, I'm a big fan. It still easily leaves all the other "Irish" bars (many of which serve about as much Irish food as you'd find at a Ruby Tuesdays) I've been to in Omaha in its dust.

This has always been a favorite of mine, with a varied menu, pleasant surroundings, and good service. But today's lunch was very disappointing. The Reuben with fries was made with corned beef that had much gristle; the cheese hadn't been melted during the grilling; and not only the fries but the sandwich itself was dripping in grease that had an "off" fragrance and taste. My companion was content with their choice, the Pub Favorite sandwich, though she also found both the corned beef and roast beef to be touch and difficult to chew. When one pulls out all of the meat out of the sandwich with the first bite, the quality of the ingredient is suspect. I will return because everyplace might have an 'off' day; but I am hoping my next meal there will be better. Otherwise, they will be off my list of favorites. Omaha has too many great places to warrant returning to places that have deteriorated.

Went there for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. For an Irish pub in s strip mall, I expected the worse, but this place turned out to be very solid. Service was great and food was excellent. The gumbo and backed onion soups were very good and their salads are fantastic.

I have had some great food and service at Brazen Head but not last night. The main problem was the waitress. We were her only table but got pretty much no service. We had to ask her to fill our water glasses and ask her to take our dirty plates away. I got the prime rib sandwich and this was not prime rib. It was a tough piece of meat that you couldn't even bite through. My friend had fish and chips and felt they were extremely greasy. On my other visits I have had great waiters who were attentive, fun and made it a good experience. This girl made a terrible impression. I will go back because I've had good food and service there but my friends were there for the first time and they will never go back. It's unfortunate.

We went to this restaurant because of its ratings from Yelp and we were not steered wrong. The food was authentic, flavorful and phenomenal! I could go back everyday! The interior, although dark, is authentic Irish pub decor. Service was excellent. I can't say anything wrong about this place. Simply phenomenal!

We always come back to this place. We love the setting the service is great and food is great. I love the boxty and the fish and chips. If you want to try Irish food come down to this place. You wouldn't be missing anything to get your money worth.

I don't have anything negative to say about this place. I started with the creamy onion soup. It was the best soup I ever had. Also had the bangers and mashed. It was just ok. I wish that it was hotter. It was slighty hotter than luc warm. Finally, I had the bread pudding and it was delicious! Ben was our server and he was pretty attentive. I recommend you give this place a try.

We went to the Brazen Head for happy hour on a Friday. We had a large-ish group and they sat us quickly but warned us we would have to move at 7 which wasn't an issue. We ended up staying until 11:30pm. It was a good time, service was prompt and friendly enough. Happy hour prices were great and weren't that much more expensive (maybe a $1-2 more) after happy hour ended. I did order some food to go at the end of the night. The Shepard's Pie was good and hit the spot when I got it home.

  • Becky D.

Christine is right, don't come here expecting Ireland. But Brazen Head should stop calling itself an Irish Pub. That's BS. We went to Brazen Head on a Saturday evening, it was full of old people. Ok fine. There is a Irish pub in my hometown where everyone can get along, they have real Irish food, music, and dancing. Maybe this could be like that? Oh but no. We looked at the menu and then my husband and I looked at each other. Um where is the Irish Pub? Why don't you just call yourself Applebee's and call it a day? This was American food, not Irish. I'm calling BS on your Irish Pub, Brazen Head.

boxty my friends, served in a pub with a bar and other decorative items shipped over from Ireland and assembled by Irish craftsman. I couldn't tell you if the boxty was authentic, but the bangers were. I loved this pub. its exactly what I think being in the irish pubs I've seen on tv and in photos would be. ( my dream is visiting Ireland and the UK) the whole feel of it made my inner irishman= I have an irish great grandfather- a happy lad. he spent quite a lot of time in pubs in Ireland and England so he should know. plenty of parking out front, cheerful servers and a menu with irish dishes and ingredients. yum. raise a Toast to Brazen Head! ps.. irish cheddar was delicious. as was the baked onion soup.. I normally love baked potato soup but who knew it didn't need potatoes!

boxtys, boxtys, boxtys, boxtys, boxtys, boxtys, boxtys, boxtys, boxtys, boxtys and more boxtys Yes they are that good. I always order two, eat half of each and take the rest home for lunch the following day.

I am in town from California and relied on Yelp to help me find a good spot to eat. This place had some really good reviews for the part of town I was in. St. Pattys day was two days ago and Ive got to say I was a little more than excited when this place popped up as I was down south on the 17th and they didnt even know what Guiness was. Me and the guy Im traveling with both ordered Corned beef and Cabbage. The food looked great but left a lot to be desired in the way of authentic Irish food. The corned beef was in slices and no red potatoes and the plate tasted very bland. The Guiness on draft tasted as though they have never cleaned their lines and I over heard others saying the same thing. The salad tasted good though. To top it all off the service was less than average as well. All in all not a place I would recommend nor eat at again.

The Brazen Head is one of my favorite bars. The food is excellent! Drinks are fairly reasonable during regular hours. I usually go to reverse happy hour during the week with classmates. In the evenings during the week, everything is half price after 10pm, making it a great spot for a study break. Favorites for our group include the baked onion soup, Kilkenny chicken salad (this thing is huge), and the Diablo chicken sandwich. They also have more traditional Irish fare on the menu during the day. The boxtys are fantastic!

The Brazen Head is about as authentic an Irish pub can get in the American Midwest. Excellent food, great beer, welcoming atmosphere. The bar staff are attentive and knowledgable. It's the kind of place I don't mind going by myself- plenty of good people watching to be enjoyed. A strange location for something of it's caliber but you forget that as soon as you walk in.

I have yet to have a bad meal here. I really love the boxties, but most recently I had the pastrami sandwich on the pretzel bun, and it was really good, too. My only complaint was that the fruit cup had really hard melon that was basically inedible.

Cleanliness 4 Service 3 Food 4 Likelihood 4 Environmentally Friendly 3 OVERALL SCORE 3.6 Our first visit here. There was 5 in our party. There were people at the door (hosts) we were not greeted when we arrived we just helped ourselves. They put 5 people at a 4 top, not a lot of room. Unique atmosphere. A band was playing, not too loud. Enjoyable. The Jamaican Jerk Wings are INCREDIBLE. One of my new favorites! The food quality was good, hot and fresh. Someone in our group had crab cakes, she didn't like the sauce that was on them. The server was nice. He had a very hard time keeping up with his tables. He was in the weeds most of the time. We had to wait and ask for refills most of our dinner. We will try it again, if only for the wings!!!!

Lunch is solid-- the fish and chips is best in Omaha. Even better than the Dundee Dell. Hamburgers also solid. The Boxtys are awful. I've spent a lot of time in Ireland, and have yet to see one served there. Great beer and Irish Whiskey selection (well, they'd better...) Ask to be seated in the "snug"-- a semi-private booth. Very different vibe in the daytime, and highly recommended for lunch. The nighttime scene can be a little unappealing.

Three stars for the ambience and drinks. Love the furniture, wood and private room. We tried the toad in a hole, linn stew, boxty, corn beef sandwich, artichoke dip and Irish cream. I don't use a lot of salt when I cook. The gravy on the toad was so salty that I could not eat more than four spoonfuls. The stew was too thick and rich. I had three spoonfuls. You could taste whisky in the stew. The artichoke dip was good. The best dish we ordered but it only had a couple pieces of artichoke. It should be called cheese dip. The bread was very good. Service was not good and not completely poor. The drinks were very good. It is not a great place for food but great for drinks. Not sure I would return.

I remember going to UNO then going to Brazen Head around lent. The servers were always great and friendly, that's just how Omahans are. My full-blooded Irish friends love this place. I personally like their fish n chips...the best I've ever had. It is just soooo good. Lightly breaded, golden brown pieces of fresh fish and the awesome chips. Thinking about it makes me want to go back to Omaha. The place has a homey vibe to it. One word to describe Brazen Head would be consistent. Decent Irish pub. Live entertainment on some weekends. It can get really really crowded. the food is ok. Went there for St Patty'd Day, and I had the worst Corn Beef sandwich ever there. what is up with that?
