Terrible bar unless you really like hanging out with the grip of meat heads...

I got a blowjob in the bathroom there once, came all over the girls chest. Was kind of awkward coming out of the women's restroom but well worth it. Nothing like a nice satisfying whiskey sour after a good old blowski. #RollJays

I was shocked to see the rating this place has. It is without doubt the worst bar I have ever been to. The outhouse at a beach bar in Mexico has better sanitation that this place. The floor is filthy. The ac vents constantly drip brown water on to the floor. The whole place just absolutely stinks of urine. Made the mistake of asking for a glass for my beer because my Guinness tasted like bleach. Take the Grinche's advice and don't touch this place with a 99 and a half foot pole.

I stumbled upon this place because I heard it was the local hang out for Creighton students and Alums. It was awesome! It has that college sports bar feel with a great deal of upgrades. They have a ton of big tv's with all the games on and they had a huge deck overlooking the volleyball court. I had the Blue Jay Burger and we ordered an appetizer sampler. There was a ton of food and it was so cheap! I can see why this is the rave among Creighton and Omaha. I would definitely come back here.

This bar is definitely a part of a Creighton student's experience. It's most definitely a dive bar, but who can beat the free keg after the games when the Jays win and a plethora of drink deals every week? They've also started selling pretty decent pizzas and wings (I've only tried the pizza though) over the past year. I've had one too many memorable, trying to remember what had happened, "the hangover"-types of nights at the Jay. Although I think you're too old to be going there if you're over 21 (pointing at me), this place is way too sentimental to give it a bad rap. Thanks for all the unforgettable-forgettable nights.

I had a Groupon this past summer for the Bluejay. Hadn't been there in years, so it was a great excuse to visit. I believe it was July of this year when we went. They offered 1/3 lb burgers on the menu. I wasn't expecting much as the place didn't appear to have changed much from years ago, but I do remember loving their blue cheese Bluejay burger. I was pleasantly surprised. The burger was very juicy, and a perfect size, so when a Groupon came up again recently I purchased it right away. Went the other night and things have really changed. There was a table of 7 women that had ordered before we got there. They received their burgers before we ordered, and all had to send them back to the kitchen. They were raw. Not pink....raw. After some wait they all received their burgers back and 6 out of 7 settled for them although they were still pretty pink. The last lady had to send hers back a 3rd time as it was still raw! My dining partner and I were a little hesitant...perhaps they were having an off night. We ordered 2 of the blue cheese Bluejay burgers. I was shocked to see the size and shape of them when they arrived. Apparently they changed to 1/2 lb burgers, so they were huge, and not even patted out. It looked like an odd shaped ball...way too fat for a burger. The burger was extremely dry and burnt on the jagged edges of the ill shaped patty/ball. Nothing like the burgers we had over the summer. Also they put swiss cheese on it instead of blue cheese. I pointed it out to the bartender, who was very nice and apologetic about it, but instead of offering to re-do my burger he said he'd mention it to the owner. Needless to say I didn't eat my burger. Thought I finally found a place that made a perfect sized 1/3 lb juicy burger, so am disappointed management felt the need to up the size to a 1/2 lb dried out burger, which is obviously too hard for the cooks to cook properly. On a positive note; It does appear they are still doing some remodeling of the place which it truly needs, and the staff seems very nice. Just won't ever go there for food again unless they make some needed changes to the menu and the cooks.

Pros: Good college bar Cons: Pretty much a dump, very pro-Creighton bar I went to school at TCU and at TCU we had the Pub. It was nothing special at all, but it was a place for TCUers to drink, hang out, and sing along with the jukebox. It did it's job of being a college bar. The Blue Jay is a college bar. If you didn't go to Creighton, don't go to Creighton, or really don't have any ties to Creighton, you're going to feel like an outsider. Also, if you like clean and nice bars, you'll be disappointed. However, I believe it does the job of providing a watering hole for Creighton students where they can drink, hang out, and sing along with songs on the jukebox. And really, isn't that the point of a college bar?

The Jay. It's a quintessential part of the Creighton tradition. Most of us have grown up around this bar, and we've now just seen it change owners. I'd be lying if I didn't say I love this place. The Jay has the best drink specials in the city of Omaha ($2 u-call-its and bottles on Wednesday) and no cover! Try that in the Old Market! The Jay Shot ($1/shot): This is a new one. It's a lot like UV Blue...and last week a few too many of these had me feeling like I was gonna puke all over the jukebox. Worth a shot, though. Creighton students love this bar, so if you're not an affiliate of Creighton you'll definitely feel alone, especially on Wednesday nights. The Blue Jay Bar: Where Creighton Wednesday nights begin (and end).

Located in any other city in the country, a place called the Blue Jay would almost certainly be a gay bar. Instead, this place owes its name to the adjacent Creighton University, where the blue jay is the mascot. It also happens to be quite close to where I work, so I like to drop in in the early evening for a beer. Not a bad place most of the time. I have made the mistake of visiting the Jay later in the evening before, when the crowd takes a very distinctive turn towards spring break. And I don't mean the spring break with lots of lovely ladies and dancing, but rather the spring break at the all male camp for juvenile delinquents. Go early. Avoid Thursday nights after 7 pm. Unless liquored up idiots are your idea of a good time.

Started serving food again, pizza and wings were really good. Had a groupon and wasn't pleased that they tried to recover the groupon loss by charging us bottle beer prices for draught beers. Young crowd, good food, sleazy deal with the bill, if they didn't want to lose $ on coupon, don't offer it. We would never have gone in without coupon and won't again cuz of the sleaze ball tactics.

Definitely a good bar to experience. Has a distinctive Creighton atmosphere. Bartenders are as friendly as they come. The food they began serving about a half year ago is delicious. Try the teriaki wings and the buffalo chicken pizza; drinks are cheap as you can get anywhere, especially if you take a minute to look at the specials.

The Jay is a great place and the cornerstone of a great Creighton Experience. The drink specials here are amazing! $2 drinks on "Wednesjays" and there are great specials through out the week like buy a pitcher get a burger for $2, 4 Pitchers, and 40 minutes of free beer after Jays games. If you aren't of College age or not affiliated with Creighton I would advise staying away late at night though, almost all Creighton kids. The drink specials are great, but what about the food? The Jay recently added food back on their menu. I've eaten there several times and the food is great! It's not somewhere you'd want to take your parents for lunch, but if your watching the game with your friends its a great value. The wings and pizza are really good, and they just added burgers and fries, which are great! The only complaint I would have is the lack of toppings or cheese choices, but I'm sure that will be an option here soon. Bottom line is, if you haven't gone to the Jay in awhile, you should check it out. The new owners have done a great job of turning a divey college bar into a great place to hang out with your friends. As a plus, they have all the Jays games on TV, sweet.

Probably the worst bar in the area. You will love this place if you like paying for a shot and only recieving half a shot in a tiny plastic container, if you like your mixed drinks weak and with flat soda, waiting 30 minutes to order a drink after 12, hanging around a bunch of lame frat boys, dealing with a bunch of underage kids (iv met like 6 people there who had fake ids). The place is filthy, the mens bathroom has no mirror, they have a pool table but good luck using it because its only used to play beer pong by a bunch of underage college kids, the only thing i trust to drink at the location is bottled beer. And this is no review from being there 1 time ive been 3 times and will not be going again.

I came in to the Jay one night after a Elite event with Wifle and Jason G. Since he is a regular here, I figured that it must be a better place than when I used to stroll in with the college kids. It was a slow night and we were enjoying our night for the most part. Then it happened. They found out there was a vegan in the house.4 people, including the bartender (bobba?) were badgering her for not eating meat. Nobody should have to defend their views on why it's a good thing to be compassionate. I shouldn't have to be expected to tip someone for service when we were made to feel like outcasts. I was in disbelief that someone would even bother question a persons choice. I get it if I was too drunk and about to drive home, then yes, tell me I am going to make a mistake I have waited far too long to post this review, however, seeing the shirt that basically says that rape is OK, I boiled over.. You got to choose between a shirt that condones rape (rampant at colleges all over) or a knock off of The Chive's 'Keep Calm' shirt if you spent $20 or more at the bar. A lot of Creighton kids will say that The Jay is a quintessential part of the college experience. From celebrating their 21st with 21 shots or just downright D-baggery. Promoting rape is not a joke, nor a tagline. A Catholic University (probably not on the side of wearing condoms) should not be allowing this. Even after a public apology I will NEVER go back. There is a reason a lot of people in Omaha do not like Creighton and this is just one more. How does this type of behavior even get allowed in the first place? There are going to be a lot of posts from people that will condemn this behavior. Many will get flagged. My review describes a real experience The University is distancing themselves as much as they can from this bar, but you cannot deny the usage of trademarked logos and fonts. TL;DR: you can't screw up beer, the drinks were OK, and the bartender is an ass. I will not support them anymore and hope that they get the message.

The Jay will either be your favorite bar, or your least favorite bar, in Omaha. If you're a college student or of that age, you'll dig the dirt cheap food and beer and party environment on week nights. If you're a civilized human being, you'll hate the dirty environment, creepy wait staff (mostly Bobo), and the fact that you're likely sitting next to a 19 year old who is pounding shots and drinking way too liberally for a Saturday morning. I lie somewhere between these two camps, but I will say, their patio is one of the best in Omaha. Go get a cheap beer there and pretend you're still in college.

Sitting here now at 3:00 pm on a Saturday..... Let's see: they have all you can eat wings on Saturday until 9pm so that's a plus. My wings are great. I ordered them mild but they come in about 10 different flavors. $3 well drinks until 9pm as well and the glasses are huge. The owner is awesome and super nice but you have to go up and order at the bar. Wait, hold on while I swat away a fly as I type this. Okay, I'm back. There are TV screens all over so if you love sports and don't mind a little run down place w great service and food? Try this one out! One guy did ask me what my major is in college so I'm sure it's mostly for for Creighton college students. I don't feel out of place at all though! Oh! As I'm typing someone just brought out another order of wings, I had to tell them not to bring me any more, I'm stuffed.

I have to give this place 5 stars...granted, this past Wednesday was a fiasco due to all the college kids there, but in general I have really taken to the Jay lately...their $7.99 steak night on Thursdays is really awesome since it's actually a pretty decent cut of meat...but where they really shine is in their prices...I love being able to come here and drink myself silly for under $20, sometimes even under $15...and the service lately has been nothing short of awesome...the barback, who goes by the name Bobbo, is really someone who never fails to make you feel welcome...and while he may take some getting used to, between him and the most excellent bartenders, if you come here and don't have a good time, then perhaps you just weren't meant to come here...I'm glad I live across the street since it makes stumbling home that much easier lol...

  • Dominic G.

This bar caters to its crowd perfectly. The employees at the bar care about the patrons. The deals are great and this is the bar of Creighton kids. Bobbo, Rusky, D-MO... This place is bomb.

Speaking as someone who has actually been to the Jay and not a bunch of strangers looking for their soap box... T-Shirt mistakes aside. Not defending that. But let's talk about the restaurant and bar. You know, cause this is Yelp. The Jay is a great local dive with a staff that not only remembers you, but will remember your whole life story. As a young woman, I felt comfortable in the bar, and the bouncer and bartenders had no patience for rude or crude guys. I've seen plenty kicked out for being inappropriate. There is nothing like a pizza right out of the oven, or a basket of fries drenched in buffalo sauce. Yum. If you are looking for a cold beer, great food, and actual atmosphere, then you need to come to the Jay. If you are looking for your next excuse to be a jerk to strangers on the internet, I suggest you just order in.

  • Catie M.

The Jay is still a great college bar. They have updated the interior and there are number of new TVs so it's great for watching a game. The staff is all very friendly and they do a great job. We love to hang out on the deck in the summer as well. All around, one of our favorite places to grab a beer with friends, new or old.

This bar is simply the best in Omaha. Their daily specials make going to the bar and getting drunk a great excuse every night. The food is the cheapest in the city and cooked by the best cook ever. 3 dollar cheeseballs, 5 dollar chicken finger meal, 5 dollar burgers, 7.99 steak night, 7 dollar pizza night, 7 dollar all you can eat wings (boneless or bone in), the list could go on forever! This isn't the normal bar food either, this shit is off the chains!

Caveat: As an older grad student, I might be prone to a little more grumpiness and 'hey kids get off my lawn' attitude. Anyways, the Bluejay is similar to any college bar you may have spent your days (and student loan money) in. Pros: The daily specials tend to be good, especially their burger, pizza, and appetizer specials. Note that apparently, the appetizer special is for dine-in only, and only with the purchase of a drink. Probably should change that on their website. There is beer pong or pool, and beach volleyball outside. The cook who brings out your food is very personable and always has a funny story or joke - he might take awhile to get used to with how forward he is, but I really like talking with him and he is definitely the friendliest staff member. Cons: THE SERVICE! Could be me but I've been there a couple times now and, even on moderately slow nights, it takes forever to get served. The first time I came into the Bluejay, there were like 4 people seated at the bar, and me and my friends decided to take a table since we wanted to be grab a bite to eat. We waited over 30 minutes before we decided to go up to the bar to order. We found out that the kitchen had closed ten minutes earlier, and that we couldn't put in even for whatever was easy to make. Conclusion: If you want to drink on the cheap, play a couple rounds of beer pong, maybe get flashed and see some ta-tas while playing (it has happened)! or hold a get together or informal gathering for your company or group, Blue Jay works. However, don't be expecting all that customer service bullshit - it's a college dive bar. Chat up the guy who brings out your food if you come before the kitchen closes- super friendly!

I love dive bars and I really love college townie dive bars. The Blue Jay is all of the above. Bargain drinks, lots of sports on TV and friendly Creighton fans. A great stop in Omaha!

This place is exactly what you would look for in a sports bar. TV's playing pretty much any sport by request and plenty of seating. I like this place as it has awesome food specials every day. My favorite is the All-You-Can-Eat Wings and fries on Saturday for $8. Also, they have a pool table (also doubles as beer pong table), darts, and a volleyball court in the back. All in all, an excellent place to watch a game, grab a bite and a summer shandy.

The Jay is still a great college bar. They have updated the interior and there are number of new TVs so it's great for watching a game. The staff is all very friendly and they do a great job. We love to hang out on the deck in the summer as well. All around, one of our favorite places to grab a beer with friends, new or old.
