Great bar. Small but cozy. Live music. Great staff and has always been a good time. They have good prices and i love the atmosphere. I will definitely stop in again.

WOW. Bad experience here ordering Lucky Bucket. Tasted like it was the first keg of beer they ever brewed. It was horrible. I'd advise on not ordering any local beers that people here don't drink often.

The owner decked out this divey Benson spot with decorations from his father's basement bar. It feels homy and warm when you walk in, especially basking in the glow of one of those vintage animated Hamm's Beer signs. The staff are great and can tell you what's going on in the neighborhood on any given night. The tap selections are always changing, but there's something for everyone - Coors Light to local craft beer. Plenty of additional bottled craft beer as well. Prices are reasonable. There's live music or comedy here most nights of the week, so don't be surprised if you're asked to pay a cover. The music venue side of the bar has tables and chairs, a nice stage and a recently updated sound system. It's a great place to have an intimate night out enjoying local music. I love the Barley Street Tavern and have always felt at home here. They even have a resident bar cat who hangs out most of the time. You don't find things like that at many other places, and it only adds to Barley Street's uniqueness and charm. It's an Omaha gem.

I come here to play with the pussy. . Shooter is a fickle young, spry tabby that puts up with drunk folks nightly. He is a great comfort and as stated in the past, the reason I come here. I make it mandatory for a stop at BST every year during Zombie Walk and will find ourselves cruising through and grabbing some tallboys. good price, ambiance, and location. There is a small stage and it can get loud and fill up pretty fast. These guys and gals have a great thing going for them. If I am here it is because we are pub crawling Benson so it is usually one or two and we are out the door. to be fair if the cat is not there, I find myself going to the next location for the night.

Hole in the wall bar we stumbled upon. Known for the live music. Coolest thing about this bar was the bar cat who lived there. He even has his own Facebook page. Unique bar with charm.

A great local bar with live entertainment just about every night. I really enjoy starting the night here and having it be the last stop on the way home. It has a great cozy vibe and great drink options. The bartenders are very friendly and pour a very tasty beverage!

Barley Street often has live music and open mic nights which offers a nice opportunity to see some local band action. This past Saturday we were in the Benson area and stopped in to meet up with a friend for a 9pm show (three bands). I thought maybe we could skate in without paying the $5 cover since it was 8:45pm, but no such luck... Soon we were in the side-room scoping out a good table for the show (which was easy since the place was empty save for 3-4 people at the bar). The little pass-through from the bar into the music 'venue' seemed like a neat idea until I asked what kind of beers were on tap. The answer I got was 'all kinds' and I was forced to walk around to the front and take a look for myself. Weird. Then, the show didn't start until around 9:45pm... I know, I know this happens sometimes. But when I'm paying to see some opening band I've never heard of, my level of patience is apparently quite low. As were my expectations... neither of which were met necessarily, though the CCTV was a hoot. But my enjoyment of the music on that particular night aside, I don't think I'd travel off the beaten Benson path back to the Barley Street unless it were for a specific band or friend. My favorite part of the night was when the cat strolled in and jumped up on the bar like he owned the place, right in the middle of the noise.

The Barley Street Tavern is a good example of a local Benson bar. Occasionally, they will have live music that's usually like a Poison cover band, and because the guitarist is nothing like CC Deville, I am always disappointed. The regulars at this place are the reason it gets 3 stars instead of 4. They like to harass anyone who isn't an alcoholic under the age of 40, which gets old. However, if you're planning a bar crawl through Benson, it's a unique venue and worth a stop for a drink.

There are no up to date reviews of The Barley Street so I thought I would put one up. A lot has changed in the past three years at The Barley Street Tavern. Previous reviews talk about Poison cover bands, and old drunks intimidating new patrons. This is not the case anymore. The bar retains it's classic dive bar feel, on the lower end drink prices, and there is still live music. The live music played at the bar now is all original music and The Barley Street has become a hub of the Omaha music scene. You will find songwriters, touring acts, punk, indie, and straight ahead rock bands here many night of the week. This all happens in a seperate room from the main bar. Its a very intimate room, but one that many quality bands and artists are more than happy to play in. The bar staff is friendly, the vibe is relaxed, and its one of the more pleasant and quiet places to go for an early evening drink. The night-time crowd consists of musicians, music fans, writers, artists, and Benson regulars...the non intimidting type. Its one of the best bars in the area and in Omaha as a whole. The reviews on here from 2008 and 2009 are acurate for that time, but it's a very different place now.

Quite the eyesore, but friendly bartenders, CHEAP drinks and I enjoy a show here from time to time, the sound is okay and the bar itself is cozy, and welcoming. A dive-y goodie.

I'm giving this Benson area watering hole four stars instead of three, because it's the only bar I've ever been in where one the patrons was displaying a pet snake. No, I'm not talking about a frat rat with his pants down. The first time I ever went to this place, there was a woman with LIVE SNAKE in her shirt. You don't get to see that just anywhere. The decor could use some work. The bathroom could use a lot of work. If you're just in the mood for a neighborhood bar or, as Ryan t. pointed out, a Poison cover band, Barley Street will definitely fit the bill. Of course, Barley Street Tavern is a regular stop on the annual Benson Pub Crawl and Winter Retreat. It comes at a point in the crawl that separates the amateurs from those with a true dependency, so some crawlers never make it this far...or never make it past this stop. My impression is that most folks at this bar go for domestic swill, but Barley Street does offer some of the more widely known craft brews for the more discerning beer drinker.

Barley street is a great place to go for a relaxing night out. A good selection of beer, plenty of microbrews, imports and good ol' American Macrobrews. Nothing is overpriced and the staff is always friendly. My only complaint is on a night they might have a rock band, or simpler something more than just an acoustic act. Their cramped preforming area makes it not only uncomfortable, but the noise overpowers everything else.
