    We haven't eaten at Vals for several years - it used to be a go-to place when we came to visit family. Now we live here and the other day I took a bunch of co-workers there. I was disappointed. Sure, the food tasted good, and there was enough of a selection for my vegetarian friends, but the servers concerned me. It wasn't just that they didn't seem to enjoy their job, nor that they didn't interact with customers in a friendly manner - no, it went beyond that. Unhappy employees in a restaurant concern me because I worry about cleanliness and quality. If an employee isn't happy - especially when they are in the front with customers - what are they like in the kitchen and out of the public's eyes? If they can't keep the dinner plates stocked, the mac & cheese stirred, or the countertops wiped - what is happening to my food when I can't see it. This isn't because Valentino's employees are bad people - this is a management issue. The overhead music was too loud and too "energetic" for a relaxed dining experience. The employees were rushed and unhappy. The countertops and utensils needed closer attention. Many of the food dishes needed to be stirred and/or restocked. Of course the pizza and other cheesy, greasy, fatty, sugary foods were great! But that's easy. We talked afterwards, and of the seven adults in our party, none of us want to return.     We had not eaten at Lincoln's Valentino's Grand Buffet on 70th for a couple of years. We decided to eat there since our friends had never tried it. As I recall from the previous times I ate here, in addition to pasta, pizza, tacos, etc. things like sausage, shrimp, and bbq ribs were available. So there seemed to be fewer items; however, we were all quite impressed with the quality. The pasta, sauces, pizzas, etc were all good. The drink selection was outstanding, especially the variety (one can just drink water and save on the drink price, but what is the fun in that?). Drinks like hot chocolate and cappuccinos such as hot buttered rum were offered. The dessert offerings were also quite tasty. The price for our luncheon buffet was a bit high compared to places like Golden Corral, Pizza Ranch, and Pizza Hut buffets, but it was well worth it. I personally felt this was an outstanding buffet and will visit it more often. We were particularly delighted with the broasted fried chicken. The coating was excellent.

    I've eaten Val's pizza for 40 years. Eaten at the 70th St buffet off and on 20 years though I now live out of state. Lincolnites your old landmark is slipping. I went to the buffet for the pizza....bleh...incredibly average. But for the price/value it is good.

    Everybody I know who still lives in Lincoln is sick of Val's, but since I only get to eat it about once a year I think it's dy-no-mite! The spongy crust isn't necessarily something I'd go out of my way for, but that shit tastes like home to me. Last time I went my wife got the spaghetti and meat sauce, which she really enjoyed (she has a somewhat odd palette though). 3/5 would eat again

    We stopped in while we were visiting Jodi's family in Lincoln. When we pulled up, we tried to find a handicapped spot. They were full, and there were very limited spots. Even though we parked quite aways away from the restaurant, there weren't adequate wheelchair ramps on the sidewalks, so it took us awhile to find one. There needs to be more sidewalk ramps available than just the one. There was a small wait but not bad. We would advise calling ahead, just in case. The seating was ok being in a wheelchair. We were seated in a main aisle, so I can get up to the table. The only complaint on this is people's chairs are pushed out in the aisles or people sitting out in the aisle, but they were quick to move so I could get by. The choices of food were endless. It was interesting to find they had everything from Mexican to American fare, and of course Italian. I have never been to a restaurant where I can have all you can eat ravioli with heavy meat sauce. Jodi liked everything but the corndogs she said there was too much corn not enough dog, but hey its Nebraska. Christopher had his favorite obsession...MEATBALLS, and Jonathan liked the ice cream where you can choose your flavor. If you cannot find something here that has your taste, then you need to keep looking at all the choices. The staff was very kind and helpful, they were quick to move a candy machine that was in the way exiting.     Ask anyone who has previously lived in Lincoln, NE where they dine when visiting the city, and Valentino's will almost always be on the list. Val's, as the locals call it, is a long-standing tradition in Lincoln that has expanded to other cities and other states. I have to admit that my one non-Lincoln experience of Val's was not quite as good as back home, but I can't speak for all the outer locations. I haven't lived in Lincoln for a long time, but it is the one restaurant that I absolutely must visit when in town, even if just for a weekend. Valentino's In General: There are a variety of dine-in and take-out locations around Lincoln, and I have found the pizza to be consistent throughout. The sauces are a bit sweeter than some pizzerias, and they have a unique taste I can't get enough of. I've taken out of state (and even out of country) visitors to Val's for years, and nobody has ever been disappointed. You can even buy the pasta sauce in local grocery stores or at the restaurants now. When living in Kansas City, I had a standing order from a friend to bring back pasta sauce by the box (and he'd never lived in Lincoln). The 70th Street Buffet Location, Specifically: Offerings: When this location was converted solely into a buffet years back, it was like the Christmas of all Italian buffets. They offer not only pizza and a variety of pastas, but you also find baked Italian fare, Italian meat dishes, a large salad bar, a kid's bar, a small home-style American bar, a small Mexican snack bar, a dessert bar with dessert pizzas and other Italian desserts, a well-stocked ice cream station, and a drink station including slushy drinks along with all the standards. Sometimes they even have a cotton candy machine going. For those with a small stomach like me, pick and choose wisely. There is more food that you'll ever be able to eat, so be sure to get all your favorites in before going back for seconds. Pizza: I am supremely picky about the freshness of my pizza, especially given that I only get to enjoy Val's a couple times a year. Like any buffet, it's pretty much impossible to keep all the pizza in the "just out of the oven" condition all the time. It's my only complaint and one that I know they can't really do anything to change. My strategy? I stay open on the type of pizza I eat or wait until my next round. There are always a few pizzas that have just come out of the oven. If you're only looking for pizza and want every slice perfectly fresh, I would recommend ordering takeout from one of the many locations (there's even one right next to this buffet location). The key is to arrive 5-10 minutes before your pizza is ready, pay up front, and hurry home. You'll have perfect pizza every time. Atmosphere & Service: By nature of being both popular and a buffet, Val's atmosphere is a lively and busy one. They offer several different rooms for dining, so even with all the hustle and bustle, I can hear the conversations of my table, even when I'm with a larger group. There are always families, so it's probably not a place to go for a romantic date or for prom. There is almost always a line when we enter the front door, but it usually goes pretty fast. They have a standard buffet pay up front set up, so once you're seated, you're free to roam to your heart's content. They have staff that come around regularly to pick up dirty plates. Families with Kids: Tuesdays offer free buffet for kids all day, as well as a clown making balloon shapes and cotton candy. They have another big kid's day on Saturdays during the mid-day (not free) with even more activities. Even without kids, it's fun to see the amazing balloon concoctions come to life. Overall, if you haven't tried Valentino's pizza, be sure to do so during your next visit to Lincoln. If you love buffets, you'll adore Valentino's Grand Buffet. I love it so much that I ate at Val's twice on my last visit.

    Val's is one of those places that is probably never going to live up to the hype. Because the hype is huge. It's just one of those places that you have to visit when you're in Nebraska. Passed on from word of mouth it's become synonymous with dining in Lincoln. It's probably this way because it's been around for so long and has set such a high standard that it'll never measure up for outsiders. That's because for those of us that grew up eating Val's we remember it being the best thing going. And it was. so if you're an out of towner and going to give Val's a shot know that they have an amazing buffet. It's loaded with all kinds of things. From salad to dessert, it's all there. For me I stick to the basics. Starting with the garlic rolls topped with garlic butter and romano cheese these are beyond fantastic. From there it's onto the thing that made Val's name. The pizza. The great thing about the buffet is that the slices aren't too big. This allows you give everything a try. And you should. My personal favorite is the hamburger. Simple. Delicious.

    I have lovingly devoured Valentino's pizza every year since 1974. I've lived in major cities and eaten major name restaurant pizza. Valentino's is still in the top three. Thank you for sticking around Valentino's! Every slice is fantastic!

    Great pizza & pasta that is consistent --- they have the system down cold. We love their takeout for an economical "eat-in without cooking at home" but rarely go to the "grand buffet" because it's too much of a circus & very-very loud. Not conducive to a pleasant, conversational dining experience at all!

    Valentino's is definitely a favorite, but more because of the tradition. The buffet has been disappointing the past few times: not a good value for the price. I think next time we will order, we'll order our Val's favorites carry-out; save some money and get fresher food that hasn't been picked over by 100 other people. Just give me salad, pizza, and pasta.

    Pizza selection is lackluster. Selection of other foods was good. Pasta, and hot wings were very good. Turkey pot roast was so overly salted I felt I was going to stroke out on the sodium. It is very similar to a Golden Corral without the hoard of children running around unchecked.

    Great buffet! A bit too expensive though, and they keep raising it. Also the food sometimes sits out for too long and gets cold (happens with noodles a lot). But there are tons of choices and they have a GREAT dessert bar as well!

    I do not recommend the buffet at all. It has gone down so much in the past few years that i don't even enjoy going with my family anymore. It used to be such a family friendly place and now it's gross and the food sucks. It is so godawful expensive that it is definitely NOT worth it. Valentino's pizza is my favorite type though, I crave it so often that I get the lunch special probably once a week. (Which is only 7 bucks) I do recommend the Val's ToGo thoughThey are always efficient and my pizza always comes out fresh and right on time!

    2 stars because it's very expensive for what is offered. I remeber the good old days when this location first opened up. It was great. But I feel they tried to do too many things. They have Chinese dishes and what are supposed to be ribs, just random weird stuff. They get two stars because I am weird and like the build your own nachos and the mini corn dogs! Sad I know, but oh well! We go maybe once every two years even though it's literally across the street. Val's is a particular taste that some people have, or have been conditioned to have! The waitresses are really nice at this location so that's the other star. I just wish they would go back to doing mostly Italian and doing it well.

    This represents everything wrong with dining in Nebraska. I'm not sure where to start, so I guess I'll just list my thoughts in no particular order. - dirty and run down. Not totally noticeable at first glance, but it seems that this was once a well maintained location. It is going downhill in a hurry. - food quality is terrible. Any pasta on the buffet is like glue with sweet red sauce. It is overdone when it leaves the kitchen, then sits for an hour. The pizza has a terrible bready crust with ketchup for sauce and gross chunky cheese. -expensive. Especially when food quality and cost of ingredients is considered. -rude patrons, come on people, it's not like they are going to run out of food. So basically this place is great for 1 children who don't know any better 2 fat people who have no taste buds 3 my wife, for some reason loves it and drags me here a couple times a year. (She is neither fat, not a child)

    A Nebraska staple. The service isn't good but it isn't terrible. The pizza quality is inconsistent to say the least. But it's Val's and once a year I have to get my garlic breadstick, hamburger pizza and powdered sugar chocolate brownie fix. Why they ever decided to have a full out buffet with Mexican food is beyond me.

    Went there around 7 supposed to be a buffet but they were out of alot of stuff not refilling the buffet. Would ask them for something, sorry were out,how can u be out of a lot the food ,on a busy nite at 7. Won't be going back.vals has gone downhill.

    Honestly people complain about the food at Val's but it's a buffet. You can't expect gourmet quality food with prices this cheap. Bring the kids and eat copious amounts of food. That's all there is to it.

    The parking lot is where I will start first and foremost people in Lincoln must believe that they are the only ones driving....people here cannot drive, this is based off of my study of Nebraskan's over the last 10 years...ok I will get to the point Every time we come to Lincoln...which is twice a year, we go here and I will tell you there is nothing we don't like like about this place save 2 how crammed it is and the price per person is a touch high But for a place that especially on a Sunday afternoon that is packed to the rafters, it somehow stays incredibly clean and I am impressed that the general manager is out working with his employees not just directing them and is willing to show an employee who didn't know how to do something how to do it without being impatient or condescending The food is always great, there is not a lot sitting out being warmed by a lamp it is fresh and that is always a good thing and am willing to pay the price ...ignore my former complaint above. I do think though that they need to have some more waitresses on sunday, those gals seemed like they were stretched thin with all re tables they had to cover

    A long time ago when I was a teen just able to drive, this was the place on date night, or after a big game. Load up the car and drive to Lincoln for what was then the best pizza anywhere around. Of course I'm talking about the 33rd and holdredge location when val and zina owned and ran it. The only location. Then they sold to what I can only surmise are investers, because they aren't chefs. It has just gotten progressively worse over the years. Way too thick crust, bland sauce, sticky pasta. Just really disappointing. And way overpriced for what it is. I would select a frozen pizza from the grocery over Val's now.

    Came here on a Sunday evening for the college student special. Rude teen working the front charged us the incorrect price (more rather than less, of course) even after we clarified with her several times that we felt we were being charged wrong. Convinced other teen that we were right, and then had to wait 20+ minutes to get our money back. While it *may* be excusable that the teens wouldn't know how to properly solve a customer issue, even the manager did not apologize. To top it all off, the cinnamon dessert pizza was cold and pizza had been sitting out too long. Yuck. Disappointed all around. It will be awhile before I return if I do at all.

    My parents used to go on dates at the original Valentino's. This one has been their favorite of the chain's so we have been coming off and on for about 10 years now. It is a very large buffet, bigger than a lot I have been to. I would say it's on the better end than some of the chains I have been to on the West Coast. The salad bar was fresh, the hot foods were decent although a few looked like they had sat a little too long. The service has always been good for us. Overall I enjoy this place as it has a bit of nostalgia.
