Boom. Best. Foods. In Lincoln. We are from Austin. And love all this food. Thanks for having us. Tigers.

I love the concept of this restaurant. Fantastic fresh, flavorful, and local food. Everything I've tried has been delicious and reasonably priced. For example, I had enchiladas today and my total was about $6.50. The owner is very friendly and seems truly appreciative of his customers. If you are in a hurry at lunch or dinner you can call ahead and have your order waiting for you. The restaurant is decorated nicely and has some local artwork. It is fairly small and there aren't big tables, so it isn't ideal for larger groups to eat in unless they are okay sitting at different tables. In general though, Pepes is a great place to come when you want some delicious, local, and affordable food.

If you ever go to Lincoln, NE and are a vegetarian/vegan, this is the place to try. Forget all the restaurants with bigger names and multiple branches. Nothing beats this place in Lincoln. The chef, Pepe, is a wonderful guy who makes food with utmost care. You can see the personality of the chef in the food he prepares. The first time we went there was our first weekend in Lincoln and we instantly fell in love with his food and especially the freshly made tortialla chips. Since then, we frequented pepe's until we left lincoln about 8 months ago. Our favourite dishes are Huevos Rancheros and Chile Rilleno and the burger. Thanks so much Pepe for some wonderful memories.

My review for Pepe's Bistro is a mixed one. First, although their hours are listed as being open at 10 AM, we arrived at 11 and had to wait a little while until they set up. I guess they just kind of open "whenever." The waiter was courteous, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. The selections were limited and Mexican themed for the most part, though all vegetarian and with vegan options. We had "coconut encrusted tacos, veggie burger, with chips and salsa, and guacamole. The tacos were the loosely arranged variety, with black beans, fresh vegetables, herbs, pico de gallo, and shredded cheese, but with no coconut that we could discern. The veggie burger was large, as promised, with a fresh, home-baked taste, cheese, and flavorful accouterments. It was served with a side of sweet potato chips. The guacamole was very fresh, though not much in the way of seasoning. The flour tortilla chips seemed to be half very fresh and tasty chips along with half of yesterday's stale, soggy chips. Overall, it was a tiny bit pricey for menu items, but not excessive considering the freshness of the food (with the exception of the tortilla chips).

I've been here 3 times and the food and service is excellent. All the food is local in support of farmers and small businesses. The owner: Pepe is a wonderful and creative cook and person. The menu constantly changes with what foods are in season, making it exciting and always different. The service is very down-to-earth and friendly, it's just like visiting friends. Also, any Mexican restaurant you go to serves chips and salsa as an appetizer, Pepe's chips and salsa are hands down my favorite: homemade chips that are lightly sweetened with cinnamon maybe? Either way, it's all delicious!

One man kitchen with principles- discount if you ride your bike. Subtle but quality. Menu is small and varies seasonally, as ingredients are local. Must try the guacamole, it's chunky and peppery, with cumin .

It's a nice try and I appreciate the effort of any vegan place in Lincoln. However, the food is just not good (No complaints with customer service though. They're a friendly, welcoming bunch.) We had the chips, guac and salsa - I'm pretty sure the chips were store bought and the guac had green apple on top which was not necessary. The salsa was simply fine. My bf had the burrito with a side of rice and beans. Some of the rice was not fully cooked and again, there were green apples on top (why?). I had the chile relleno - this was fairly well done. The only complaint with this item was that the skin was left on and that seemed a bit strange. Last asides: A bit overpriced. No cilantro, lime, or jalapeño anywhere. All in all, I hate to not support the local vegan movement, but I have certain standards which this doesn't quite meet and will unfortunately not return.

Hands down one of the finest Mexican restaurants I've dined at. How does this place not have more reviews? Being from Southern California, having lived in Austin, Texas and visited Mexico, I know a few things about Mexican food. I know I'm no expert, but the thing is quality and originality easily stand out from the background noise of what is the same Mexican fare repeated again and again across the country and across price ranges. And that's the thing: this place does not compare with other Mexican joints, upscale or traditional or stripmall or "authentic" or homestyle or whatever. It's not a matter of degree more than it is a matter of kind. Eating here is little like a home-cooked meal from an ingenious and creative host who knows how to put unique touches on dishes you thought you knew. It reminds me of an Oaxacan woman in central Texas who had us to her house for family dinner on a couple of occasions. She was the kind of person who is very conscious of fresh, wholesome ingredients and steered clear of processed foods in favor of local, fresh ingredients prepared just enough to complement the others in a dish yet show their flavor and nature as they should. Pepe is this kind of chef and host. He is true to the seasons and the produce they provide. His business is hand-built like his food and menu. He doesn't compromise on ingredients just to keep a certain menu. It stays simple and comforting during the winter and flourishes during the summer and fall. The fist time here we had the sweet-potato quesadilla, served with rice and black beans, with a black bean taco and guacamole on the side. I could taste each ingredient of each dish. The pico de gallo was prepared with unique touches like green apple. Why? Because it's good and original and re-invents a dish and a flavor you thought you knew. The horchata you could tell was made from real rice, almonds, cinnamon, and sugar. No pre-mixes here. Real ingredients. They are starting up having live music, delivery, and apparently have a kickstarter campaign for a food truck. A great place to support and enjoy what they have on offer.

We absolutely love Pepe's food but it is becoming irritating that he is so often closed on Saturdays. This is the primary day we are going out to lunch and the last three times we wanted to come here he was closed. Suggestion: start teaching/training someone else on how to prepare the food so you can go and do other things like catering or food truck and can still keep the restaurant open. The food is outstanding and we want to give you our business but you must be open!!!!!!!

One of my favourite food joints in Nebraska .. The best Mexican food I ever had in my life. I love all the flavours and spices in every dish. The addition of apple in salad and burger patties were unique. Moving to Oregon.. I really miss such flavourful Mexican food.. I really miss you pepe's. Must try: chili relleno and huevos rancheros with horchata:)

Pepe's is just fantastic food. The menu changes with the seasons. When the Farmers Market opens up he is down there buying food from local farmers and in general buys his ingredients from local people. I have multiple food allergies that drastically limit where I am allowed to eat. Pepe will adjust any of the items on the menu or even customize a dish. The chips are definitely NOT store bought, they are made right there in the kitchen like everything else. He loves his food and you can tell. The price is worth the quality and love in that food. Nothing over $10 usually. YOU NEED TO GO!

*Copied from my very recent review on their closed location yelp page. Pepe's is the most creative vegetarian-friendly restaurant in town. Thursday's 50cent taco nights are my absolute favorite. Be forewarned you do not get to pick what kind of taco. They do one kind for the night, and taco night ends when they run out. BEST guacamole I've ever had. The chips are unique, too, in that they're spiced (note: not "hot" spicy). Go early so they don't run out before your craving does. I've been vegetarian (formerly vegan) for a year and a half now, and I don't feel like I'm compromising a thing when I go here. My meat-eating friends also enjoy Pepe's food. And don't worry, they don't use "freaky" vegan cheeze, though they do use some meat substitutes. The pro-bike art and atmosphere make this place unique. I also appreciate that they're proponents of a more environmentally conscious means of getting around town. Note they're not open Sunday or Monday. Don't drive over without checking first. You might disappoint yourself. Bring cash! I recommend following their Facebook page so you'll know when they're closed or have specials or events. facebook.com ... Also, Pepe's closed its doors in Havelock and JUST moved to 3227 South 13th St in Lincoln. Spread the word!

A friend and I were visiting one of the downtown art supply businesses when we picked up Pepe's biz card at the cashiers counter and decided to try it for something new for lunch. Neither one of us are from here, but have been around long enough to know the Mexican restaurants in Lincoln all pretty much and sadly taste the same and most definitely lack flavor and creativity. We were extremely and pleasantly surprised by the food and atmosphere however at Pepe's. I had the Enchilada Florentine, it had a creamy spinach filling with a grape tomato and sunflower seed garnish. Melt in your mouth delicious! It came with rice, beans and small, flavorful salad. Visually it was a beautiful plate of eye popping color, ingredients that were fresh, personal service and Pepe himself came out to ask us how our meal was. The Enchilada Florentine was simply fabulous and I will be going back and recommending this restaurant to others. My friend who is vegetarian, thought she had died and gone to heaven after finding Pepe's Bistro!
