We stopped here with our family on our drive back to CO. Service was quick, staff was very friendly and accommodation and the food was delish!

This evening we ordered a couple of general rolls and some chicken. I rated it based on 2 things: service and food. Food was very good, except they forgot to put the spicy mayo on our rolls. I would have given it 4 stars based on the food alone. It was good. Service was the problem. It took almost a full hour after we ordered (online) to get our food. When I got there, they confirmed they had our order. The problem I have is that quite a few people came in after I did, ordered and all got their food to leave before I finally received my order. Yo! First come, first serve.

We arrived just a few minutes before they closed with a party of 11 and they were more than happy to take care of us. The sushi was the same quality as that which I eat regularly in Miami and New York. The fried rice was excellent. We tried a few different sushi rolls that we shared and I found them all to be above average. The others in my party all enjoyed their meals as well. This is the first restaurant everyone in our big group equally enjoyed on our road trip.

I'm going to be careful with this review, because I have to remind myself that I'm in Kearney and shouldn't be expecting 5-star sushi restaurants. So, given that this is probably the best place to get sushi within 100 miles, I'm gonna stick with 3 stars. The service was probably the best part for me. Attentive, but not over-bearing. Brought my meal out in a coordinated fashion, kept my glass full. I started with edemame. It was over-cooked and too salty, but decent enough. I had the spicy salmon roll and dragon roll. These are a couple go-to rolls for me, so I decided to give them a whirl. I'm interested to know what the normal salmon roll tastes like, because I felt there was no heat to speak of in the spicy salmon roll. The dragon roll was better and seemed to be prepped with a little more care and finesse, but the eel just lacked the flavor that I normally love. The eel sauce and wasabi were decent. Clean place and well run, I just have problems giving my meal any higher than a few stars. If you need a sushi fix in the middle of Nebraska, this will do just fine.

I love this restaurant! Sushi is great. Staff is always very friendly and attentive. My favorite thing is the hot and spicy chicken. It is quite spicy, which is great! Love the miso soup as well. Prices are very reasonable. Great find in Kearney, Nebraska!

Fabulous! I've had sushi in larger cities (Orlando, San Francisco) and even in Japan, and this was in the ranking for some of the best I've tried. The Caterpillar Roll was delicious; I love eel rolls, and this one was perfect! The Kearney Roll was clever and fun. I always appreciate unique sushi options. The non-sushi choices were slightly less noteworthy, but they were still tasty. I tried the tempura vegetables, the pork katsu, and the chicken fried rice. They were good, well-prepared, served nice and warm, but I've had better on all three. Service was very friendly, if slightly slow--no big deal, I am used to waiting for good sushi! I'll definitely be back here, though I plan to spend my money on more sushi rolls than entree items next time!

This place is definitely in my Top 5 picks in Kearney. We were served by Brian who made our meal an experience. We were pleasantly surprised by how fresh and tastes everything was. They really pay attention to details and do there best to make quality and good looking food! We had everything from sushi rolls (yum!) to the combo plates (awesome!) to the udon soup (a fav).

Such a great, friendly staff. Love the sushi but finally tried the hot dishes thanks to the suggestion of the staff and I will never eat Chinese food anywhere else in town! So good! Love it all!

Style, flavor and great service! I have tried several dishes, the special rolls my favorite with great taste and packed with flavor on every bite. I would recommend starting with sashimi the down with the rolls.

Gourmet House is one of my favorite places to eat in Kearney. The food is awesome, and the service is even better. I always get an order of gyoza as an appetizer. My favorite sushi rolls are the crab meat tempura, crispy roll, and spicy tuna. The non-sushi options are good, too!

I was born in Tokyo and have had the pleasure of eating sushi all over the world. I was very pleasantly surprised by the freshness of the sashimi we ordered. The rolls were, thankfully, not swimming in sauce. Service was prompt and courteous. I am very happy I chose to risk a sushi restaurant in this small town in the center of the country far away from any direct source of fresh fish - excellent job

Great dinner to-go last night. And wonderful customer service. About 15 min after we left picking up our to go order their staff called, concerned they'd forgot an item and offering to have it brought to us. They hadn't missed anything, but I was very appreciative they reached out on their own when they feared a mistake and offered to fix it. 99% of places never would have done that, and my bet is they are the only ones who would have gone above and beyond to fix it.

Was great! Was nervous about eating raw fish In the mid west but it was fresh and delicious. Quick thorough service, clean location, only complaint is that the ambiance is missing. Lighting was harsh, very boring inside.

This place is amazing! I would have never thought that Kearney would have such great sushi, but they do! Not only is the food (not only the sushi.. It's all really good) but they're super helpful and friendly! I got all my friends and family hooked on this place. Whenever someone asks me where to eat I always recommend this place! :)

Sad that it took so long for us to eat here! We have lived in kearney since June and no one recomended this place. So we didnt think it was any good. Turns out people around here just dont have any taste cause Gourmet House is the best sushi around! Havent had this good of tasting nori since San Fransisco! Must check it out. And if u like spice food check out the Hot and Spicy Chicken (picture) and Gyoza (dumplings). Price depends on how much sushi you eat.

Late on a week night with many restaurants closing, I stumble upon Gourmet House. I've driven by it many times as it it easy to see off 2nd Ave. The owners were kind enough to stay open with about 10 minutes before closing for me to place my order to go They have a wide variety of selection from your traditional Japanese appetizers, salads, dinner entree's, bento plates, curries, udon soup, and sushi rolls. I ordered the salmon terriyaki and rock in roll. The portions for the dinner entree are huge! It's good enough for 2 meals! The sushi was okay, I've had better back home. If I'm craving Japanese food while in town, I will definitely come back here! The service is good and the people are friendly. I'm giving this 3 stars as it's A-OK!!

What a fun place to visit in Kearney! We ate here three times while in Kearney in March 2012. It was that good! We were told that new owners had just reopened the place about a month ago, so I think the previous reviews posted here on Yelp would not reflect the current quality of the food that we experienced. The sushi was fresh, delicious and as good as sushi we have enjoyed in L.A. and other places. My favorite rolls were the Red Dragon Roll, the Kearney Roll and the Spider Roll. The chef's spicy sauce was superb and the plating was nothing short of beautiful and artistic. Our waiter was a young Chinese man actually and was so charming...he had great suggestions for sushi rolls and was attentive, & friendly, but not overly so. For those of you new to sushi...they have several rolls with cooked ingredients, including the innovative Nebraska roll with beef and a yummy spicy sauce. The miso soup was delicious and even my sister liked it and she doesn't really like miso. If you are not into sushi, there are great alternatives. My aunt enjoyed a nice teriyaki dish and the spicy tofu and the japanese equivalent of Kung Pao chicken were also terrific. If you haven't tried the terrific food here with the new chef and owners, please give it a try. I will definitely be back!

we ordered the chicken fried rice, vegetable spring rolls, avocado rolls, and gyoza. all were very fresh and really tasty. They were slammed on christmas, so we waited awhile for.our food. it was well worth it. It was great to find a restaurant of this caliber in Kearney. I will be coming back the next time I'm in town.

The thing about this place is that they need more creativity and a better business plan, the selection of maki is very limited if you're into non traditional rolls, and the staff can be a little scatter-brained from time to time, but all in all this is a great place to get your sushi fix and honestly, where else can you go? Edit: New ownership, lots of new options, get a plus one star from me!

Note...I want to give this place zero stars but have to rate with 1. I just stopped at the Gourmet House for lunch on while on a long road trip and this was one of the worst meals I have ever eaten. To use the word "gourmet" is more than a stretch and I think a more appropriate name for this restaurant is "gross house" or, perhaps "vomit emporium." First, the restaurant claims to be Japanese but the menu is Chinese and terribly scary looking sushi. After noting imitation crab meat displayed in the sushi bar I decided to stick with the Chinese menu. Secondly, they do not offer any vegetarian dishes. None. After being Seated at a dirty table we waited and waited for anyone to take our order. I ordered kung pao chicken and my boyfriend ordered the Singapore noodles. 26 minutes after ordering our food arrived but not at the same time. I have tasted mall food court Chinese food that was better. Our food tasted old and bland. My kung pao had cooked cucumber chunks in it. The Singapore noodles tasted like an unwashed stir fry pan with a bit of yellow curry sprinkled on top. Horrible service, horrible food and weird atmosphere overall. At least it was cheap and we are well on the road again.

Not a bad place. Let's be honest, not like there is many options for sushi around here. The next closest place is Grand Island, which if you're willing to go there is worth skipping this place and heading to the Wasabi Bistro. The food here is prett decent, I prefer their sushi over their hot foods, but I can't complain, it's better than nothing at all.
