The scent of the smoker is a big draw for this place right on Hwy 31. I first stopped here on my way to Lincoln lured by that very smoker. Inside.. I describe the decor as "southern man cave/early garage"! But don't let the ambiance offend your sensibilities. The smoked meats and sides are sure to impress and please. The owners are great..very friendly. Call early for the best selection. Worth the drive to Gretna!

Walked in and greeted by friendly staff. Very helpful and on the ball. Staff makes you feel like you are at home. We had ribs and pulled pork. Excellent. Customers felt comfortable to talk back and forth table to table. Definatly recommend. Will be back!

Great smoke on the food. Wish they had a sample platter and not just sandwiches. We will be back.

Picked up some pulled pork and brisket for a small gathering. Not overly impressed especially with a better option across the street (We'll Smoke You). Pulled pork was good but let's be honest, that's hard to mess up. The brisket was way too smokey. I don't know if they threw in two whole trees of hickory or what but everyone who tried it said "too smokey." I could taste it the next morning in my mouth.

The atmosphere is cool. It's a total dive and appears to be an old FedEx store/general store/hole in the wall....my kind of place. Unfortunately the food did not stack up to the vibe. I ordered the pulled pork, and my buddy ordered the brisket. The brisket was cold, sliced in a meat slicer, then microwaved. The pork appeared to be already shredded but was also cold and thrown in the microwave to heat up. Both came out on a small dried out dinner roll and the meat tasted the same....dry. Thankfully the sauce was good as I loaded up on the sauce to create some moisture with each bite. I'm not sure what their approach is on serving warm plates but we were there at 12:30pm, right in the heart of lunch hour and both meals had to be nuked. Not wanting to leave disappointed, I ordered a 1/2 rack of ribs and was pleasantly surprised. Meaty, juicy, flavorful, hot and ready to be eaten. No need for a microwave here. It does appear their focus is ribs and everything else is an afterthought. Side were basic and nothing to write about. My hunt continues.....

Make the trip for the ribs and leave the rest behind. Spare Ribs- Huge, meaty, smoky, moist. One of the best ribs in omaha and this place has the best bbq sauce in the world Grandma Foster's Spicy on the side. Brisket- Sliced from cold and nuked. Flavorless and dry as a bone, I would not serve this to my dinner guests. Sides- Beans were uneventful but had a unique apple sauce flavor, potato salad was premade, cole slaw was fresh and ok, mac and cheese was passable. No bread was offered. Bottom Line: Worth a trip to try the ribs but ultimately forgettable. Pricing was fair.

This is a little "ma & pa" restaurant (literally three or four tables) nestled inside a FedEx shipping store, located inside a small strip mall along Hwy. 6/31 in Gretna. The atmosphere was, to me, similar to eating at home. The two folks working in there (most likely the owners) were very friendly and welcoming. I was dining solo. Their "menu" is very limited (mostly BBQ staples - ribs, featherbones chicken, etc.). I ordered the brisket sandwich combo, which came with one side (I chose macaroni and cheese) and a drink. It was served very quickly, and although it was a small-ish sandwich, I thought the brisket was very tender and had a good taste. The macaroni had an oven-baked consistency, and it was good as well. This isn't the best BBQ place I've ever been to, but It was palatable in my opinion. As there currently aren't too many places to eat in Gretna, I'd much rather support "little guy" local businesses, and I would gladly return.

The ribs are fantastic. You pay $25 for a full rack and it is well worth it. They are tender, have good smoke flavor, and fall off the bone. The brisket and pulled pork are not that great. It seems that the owner's passion is the ribs, he just keeps the brisket and other items on the menu to please other barbecue goers. I think he should offer ribs and ribs only. The sides are okay. I liked the coleslaw, because it was fresh. The beans have a sweet taste to them, like they have some applesauce and cinnamon added. Overall, worth the visit for ribs and ribs only. Which is fine by me because that's what I care about the most anyway.

Best barbecue in the metro area. REAL and fresh. They use their own rub and the meat, no matter which you get, is fabulous and tender. Some people say that it's pricy, but you get what you pay for - quality costs more. Owner/operator small business - it's a cozy little hometown restaurant with a quirky location. Definitely my first choice and we also like to support the local small businesses. You have to try it out!

New place, just starting. Had the pulled pork sandwhich that I think was better than Parker's. Side of Mac-n-Chesse hit the spot also.

Quite possibly the worst barbeque my family had ever eaten. The food was greasy, overcooked and overpriced for what you get. A brisket sandwich on a cocktail size bun for $8 and nothing with it is way too high. The meat had no smoke taste at all. The sides were all tiny and flavorless. I hope they can fix their food and keep this place open, but I know we won't be back.

We've already been to the over priced 'We'll Smoke You'. So this was the next closest BBQ joint, our side of town. Walking into the restaurant I felt very out of place. Like I just walked into someone's cluttered home. It's decorations are so all over (like they couldn't decide on a theme so they literally choose every theme possible), it's hard to find the menu that they have on the wall. So they had to tell us. I assume it's a husband/wife run business as there was a male and female behind the 'counter'. It was disappointing to find out they were out of cole slaw, brisket and the meat they did have available, they had to "heat up". Mind you, we didn't get there till 5:30 PM on a Sunday but after all of that, I was dreading eating there with my family. I had to use the rest room and found my way to their hodgepodge/rundown bathroom and I thought that's it! This seals it! This place sucks. When I got back to my table, I found our food at the table on paper plates. We had plastic sporks to eat with and I was about to freak the FRICK out! But the moment those tender, lip smacking good ribs hit my mouth, I was in heaven. I didn't even need to use BBQ sauce. Hands down, THE BEST RIBS I've ever had. Wow! Their beans and great but their potato salad tastes like they buy it from bag and save. And it's not good. I would hope that they decide to change a few things based off my review but I will always recommend this BBQ joint to all my friends and family.

Unfortunately, I am going to have to downgrade Po' Boy's BBQ from 4 stars to 3. It's really too bad too as it's a Gretna business and a BBQ joint and those are two things I love to throw my money at. I've been in here a several times over the last two years. Ribs are good. They're not overcooked like at most BBQ joints (meat should not fall off the bone, but should cling to the bone and pull away as you bite it). The ribs have a great smoky flavor which seems to be missing from a lot of Omaha-area BBQ (How so many BBQ places can put ribs in a smoker for hours and not develop an overtly smoke-forward flavor amazes me). Po' Boys definitely gets the smoke on the meat! Bark could be a little more flavorful. Now, good luck actually getting any ribs. The last 3 times I've been their their spare ribs were marked as either "sold out" or "in the smoker." The first time I shrugged it off to high demand. I asked about the ribs and was told they'd be done by 8 or 9 PM. Their restaurant closes at 8 PM. So, why would they put ribs in the smoker with the expectation they'd be done at the end of (or after) their business day? That means they're intended for sale the next day. So, when you come in and get ribs at lunch you're eating day old ribs? I'm eating reheated ribs? Not cool. I would think you would put ribs in the smoker twice a day so that they're timed to come out of the smoker just before lunch and just before dinner. Very disappointed in both them being consistently out of ribs and with the realization that the ribs are smoked the day before. Pulled Pork is very tasty. Again, like the ribs, it has a real smokiness to it that reminds you why you like BBQ. Very good. My only complaint about the pulled pork is how small it is when compared to what most BBQ places serve up. Any smaller and it would be a pulled pork slider. Macaroni & Cheese was okay considering it's probably just oven-baked Stouffer's (or a cheaper knock-off) and out of a box. I'd be more impressed if they were making their own home style mac-n-cheese from scratch, but I've become so universally disappointed in restaurant mac-n-cheese that I'm numb to it being blah. Whiskey Beans are okay. They're definitely not my favorite beans from a BBQ restaurant. They're mushy and have a bit of an off-flavor and, silly as it sounds, I like my beans a bit darker. I don't care for their selection of BBQ sauces. They're not bad and most people will find one they like. They "name brand" sauce and don't make their own and none my preferred name brand sauces are part of their selection. Also, only 1 or 2 of their selections are barely recognizable name brands. There's no KC Masterpiece, Stubb's, Gate's, Head Country, Kraft, Sweet Baby Ray's, or any other popular brand of sauce. From what I can tell the husband and wife owners are also the only employees. They are both friendly and nice. The building it is in is old and rundown and the unit they've rented also doubles as FedEx authorized shipping center called Husker Post & Package. It has a bit of a cluttered and messy feel (but not dirty). BBQ restaurant area is decorated in typical BBQ fashion (old signs and whatnot). There are musical instruments set up in the back and when the owner isn't busy doing other things you'll find him sitting in the back watch TV and picking at his guitar. They use the parcel business' credit card machine, so if your pay for your BBQ with a card it will show up as "Husker Post & Package" on your statement. Majority of customers get their BBQ to go and I've never seen anyone dining in the restaurant. They also cater and sell meat by the pound (and ribs by the rack). So, if you're looking to feed a LOT of people please also keep them in mind for that. In addition to being a BBQ restaurant they also refer to themselves as a "Meat Smokin' Company" Anyway, a decent place to grab some BBQ, but not my favorite Omaha-area BBQ.
