I went here for lunch last week - it was pretty great. The atmosphere was my favorite. I think I probably said, "I feel like I'm in my grandparents basement" about 4 or 5 times. I mean, there's a fireplace and picture frames of family kids everywhere. Definitely a cozy ambiance. The food was pretty good too. The salsa was yummy, not too spicy. The chips were pretty salty- I wasn't the biggest fan. For lunch, I went with the a la carte item of a chicken quesadilla. For $5, it was a good deal. The chicken was tasty and shredded and the cheese and seasoning were tasty. My coworker had s burrito and whoa, was it huge! Not the absolute best, but definitely with trying.

Dont listen to some of these negative remarks. Ive been eating at Netties for years. I even lived right next door for some time. They even taught me how to make Posole. Everything they make is authentic NOT processed foods!!! I was married into a Mexican family for 10 years and if you dont call Netties food authentic than you dont truly know Mexican food IMO. The red pork chili and chicken chimichanga's are my favorite, but their tacos, burritos, menudo, posole and all are fantastic!! Large portions for the price...you leave over stuffed for the price thats for sure! Its like Godfathers Pizza only Authentic Mexican piled high! They are all family oriented and professional with excellent service making sure your drink never runs dry and always making sure to see if you need anything else. Make salsa at home and tell us how expensive that is with chips....$3.50 isn't really that bad. And the Margarita's are the bomb! Always super busy so be sure to plan ahead or you could be waiting a while especially on a Friday night! This has always been my favorite place for Authentic Mexican Cuisine and NOBODY makes Pork Chili like they do....its hot and spicy with excellent flavor.

I could care less what a place looks like. This place is old and dark, which it ok with Me. 1. The chips the brought to our table were just round chips you get out of a bag. The salsa was good, but way too hot for my wife. 2. The margarita was way too strong and it was a darker yellow color which means it not fresh, they use a mix for already part of the drink. 3.The food was no different than the stuff I make at he on the stove, and it was REALLY greasy. It wasn't bad. But too me, it was not even close to good Mexican food. The people were really nice! And I like the atmosphere. But I will probably not go back.

Their toads (fried tacos) are amazing. I can't bring myself to ever order anything else but I always want to (the menu, margs and food is top notch). Well worth the drive to South O/Bellevue.

I love this place. It's definitely a dive, a little musty and old school, but the food is good. This is definitely Americanized Mexican, flour tortillas and heavy sauces. Portions are huge and generous. They have tons of margarita options, and the classic is good and strong.

  • Reid R.

Started off good... felt rushed 20 minutes Margaritas tasted like Oh my god HORRIBLE!!! The food was rushed ... Ive never came here and Kathy not be here maybe thats the reason all I know is I drove from West Omaha to come eat good food and got stiffed!!!!

First time to Nettie's. It was OK but not as good as some claim. Chicken chimichanga was very good, it is somehow opened & covered with lettuce, cheese & tomatoes. Chips seem store bot & extremely salty. Salsa was OK. Wife had beef tostada & special enchilada, she was not impressed. Noisy & costly. Chimi saved the day, otherwise 2 stars.

I've been coming to Nettie's off and on for probably 20 years now. I love their shredded chicken chimichanga (theirs is similar to a taco salad). Complimentary chips are out of a bag (huge letdown) and not a particularly good brand. They really should be frying their own chips (even Taco Bell does that). The salsa is good and spicy. Every once in a while I get some serious saltiness from their chips and salsa. I don't know if someone was heavy handed with the salt when making that particular batch of salsa or if I just got a batch of chips that were extra salty, but it is occasionally overpowering. Everything comes with a mountain of cheese on it. You know how at some Mexican restaurants everything seems to come out of the kitchen buried in cheese? This is one of those places. If you're a cheese lover then you'll love it, but if you're a health nut then you'll probably freak out about it. They don't skimp on the portions, but quantity doesn't replace quality. I don't mean to imply their food is bad. It is not. I find it all quite tasty. However, they're not going to get any culinary recognition for their use of the finest ingredients (even though their sign says "Fine Mexican Food." So, they instead try to deliver a great value by making the portions huge. Is it the most authentic Mexican food and something that purists and food elitists will love? Probably not. I'm not someone that obsesses over authenticity, but I will readily acknowledge that most restaurants calling themselves Mexican restaurants are more "Tex-Mex" than Mexican and have a very Americanized menu (because that's what sells). This place is no exception. You're not going to walk into a restaurant south of the border and be able to order most of the items on Nettie's menu. Sure, they have a few items that lean more toward the authentic side, but the overwhelming majority of their menu is typical Americanized Tex-Mex cuisine that you'll find in most "Mexican" restaurants in the US (with gobs of yellow cheddar cheese and sour cream to emphasize it). Those of you who use the demographics of the clientèle as an indicator of authenticity might like to know that despite being in a very Hispanic area of Omaha you will find very few Hispanics actually dining in here. I guess the best way to express the atmosphere of Nettie's to people who have never been is to have them think of a greasy hamburger joint that's been around for years and has lots of faithful clientèle. It's sort of the Mexican version of that. I go to Nettie's because they have fairly-priced food that's tasty and served in huge portions for a fair price. If I am craving something more authentic, healthier, or more polished then I go elsewhere. I come to Nettie's when I'm craving gobs of cheesy Tex-Mex cuisine. Service is what you would expect from a family owned dive restaurant: nepotism and ambivalence. They don't try too hard because they have faithful customers and they're all related in some way to the owners and can't be fired anyway. Nettie's isn't alone in this. I find this to be the case at most small privately-owned restaurants like this. They only seem to be genuinely friendly with their regulars. For everyone else the wait staff seems to have a minor level of annoyance that they don't hide too well. It doesn't bother me and allows me to save a few dollars in gratuity. Restaurant could use an exterior renovation. It doesn't have much "curb appeal." It's in a somewhat seedy part of South Omaha (North Bellevue) that I would typically never think to go to for anything retail. Honestly, when you're looking for a restaurant in Omaha who heads to Railroad Avenue? Had my dad not dragged me here many years ago I probably wouldn't even know it existed. Outside of that, the interior is kept clean and it's generally maintained well. They have a website but there's no menu on it. I'm not really sure what the point is in having a restaurant website if you're not going keep a current menu on it. Weekday lunch is always crowded. Wish they were open on Mondays. If more of their employees were non-family and they delegated authority a little more they could easily be open 7 days per week.

Nettie's has been here since before 24th St became Latin. Food is rich & greasy. Mmmm!

Really a 3+ review of Netties. Place looks a bit run down when entering, could use an upgrade. Lot of locals which is good. Family pictures all over the walls with other Latino decorations, neon, etc. Service was decent. Checked on us several times. Chips and salsa are served upon being seated. Chips are store bought; you can see the big bags at the server station. Salsa is thick, slightly chunky and has good spice. Good taste. If you want more chips and salsa; it will cost you $3.50 (pretty steep). Menu has a good selection. Combo meals come with rice and beans. A two item combo meal costs $9.95. Portions are good sized. We both decided to get two item combos and got a mix of cheese, potato and pea, and beef enchiladas. The rice, beans and enchiladas are all tasty. Several reviews have complained about too much cheese, but we love cheese and it is gooey, thick and delicious. Nettie's just dumps the cheese on and we love it. When it is time to pay the cash register is in the back of the restaurant...not the front. It is actually located in the back corner of the dining room. Manager/Owner was very friendly and we chatted about what brought us to the restaurant and of course we said Yelp. She said that Nettie's doesn't advertise and relies upon word of mouth to get new customers. We'd go back again just to get the cheesy enchiladas.

Spent the first 22 years of my life in San Diego growing up on great, authentic Mexican food. Nettie's is definitely NOT authentic Mexican food. Poor service as well - waitress was rude when taking our order, never asked us if we wanted drink refills or if we needed anything (my Husband's beer sat empty at the edge of the table throughout the entire meal), and delivered our bill WITH our food, as if to say, "Eat and get the ---- out".

  • Luke V.

I've been coming to Nettie's since I was a kid. I have never had a bad meal here and I always leave stuffed with plenty of leftovers! I always order the three combo meal with a chicken enchilada, pea and potato enchilada and bean burrito. I can only finish half of it, and it's just as good the next day! The salsa that they bring to the table is really good. But my favorite thing here is the rice and beans, I would just go here for them. They make some really good margaritas also!

  • Sarah M.

Not impressed, although the locals seem to love the place. It feels like your going into someone's home where everyone knows each other, the food was not very good. It was edible but I wasn't impressed. Don't think I will be back.

    (2)
  • Leslie T.

Liked it. Old school Omaha joint. Kinda feels like it is out of a movie. I love the hot salsa and the cheese and potato and pea enchilada with rice and beans. Just a warning-- the enchiladas are huge and very cheesy! I usually take half of my food home for another meal. Will be back.

I have to disagee with one of the previous reviewers. I have eaten at this place many times over the last 10 years, it's always good. At times, there can be a long wait. And they do have big portions--not all bad?? We hadn't eaten here in several years, we went last Saturday with our 2 kids, 5 and 2. I was a bit worried as we weren't really prepared to go out. We were seated immediately, it was early though, maybe about 5:30. You are immediately given chips with salsa (the salsa is alright). We ordered an order of guacamole, which really was too large. I don't think I have ever had such a large order of guac. We really couldn't eat it all. We figured we would just share our meals with the kids. I ordered the nachos and hubby ordered the potato and pea enchiladas. The kids and I both ate the nachos and ended up taking at least half of it home. Hubby also took a large portion of his home as well. We all enjoyed our meal. Is it upscale? No. It is more of a casual family style place. We enjoyed it and like it. What more can I say?

    (4)
  • L C.

I've been going to Nettie's for a very long time and I'll always be a fan until they royally screw something up. I love the food and don't care about it being upscale or not. The only thing that has kept me from going back there regularly anymore is the drive. There is also one certain staff member that needs to be a little more friendly but I won't let that deter me. My favorites are Kathy's Nachos and the Taco Plate!

    (4)
  • Patty O.

I was disappointment in the chips and salsa. The salsa was too hot and the chips came from a bag. I got the big chicken enchilada and found it very tasty but it had too much cheese. Cute place.

  • Tonda B.

Netties is the best BY FAR AND WIDE Tex Mex restaraunt around!! Hubby and I crave them, we live 2 hours out and make specific plans to get there for dinner at least once a month. Seriously, the anticipation makes us crazy until we get seated and have our bean dip in front of us.

    (5)
  • Kelly T.

Nettie's is a great litttle, unassuming place. I definitely recommend the chili and love getting a little extra to go with the rest of my meal, although it doesn't necessarily need it!

    (5)
  • Mary M.

A staple in Bellevue for a long time with good tex-mex food...big and cheesy. When they are busy, they will have a line, and I mean literally a line. They do not hand out pagers or beepers, you stand in line and wait to be seated. Oh, and don't forget cash because they do no take cards. Try the potatoe and cheese enchilada - it is my favorite!!

There's something off putting about this place and I am baffled by all of the favorable reviews on Yelp. We've tried several Mexican restaurants in the area and this one is by far the worst. Don't be fooled by the glowing reviews because as I write this I struggle to find one redeeming quality about Netties! Okay perhaps the customer service was decent but even that was somewhat bizarre. One of the workers who apparently was on break decided to join another coworker at an adjacent table. For the next 10 minutes we listened and watched her flip through photo after photo of guys stored on her smartphone while making varying degrees of "look how fine he is" comments to her friend. Truthfully the conversation at their table was more interesting than the plate of food under our noses! She was a welcome distraction from the plated hot mess we ordered! **********RESPONSE TO OWNER'S COMMENT********** I appreciate you reaching out to me as it shows you care. In the same token please know I cared enough to blur the truth when describing what the girl was saying as she flipped through photos on her smartphone. Trust me, you wouldn't want it posted here!

Just ordered the special burrito and also the special enchilada...worst food I ever had. Talk about processed products It was a pound of the lowest quality ground beef(highly over salted), a giant low quality store bought flour tortilla covered in processed cheese. Not fine, and not Mexican. Will never go or recommend place

  • Joan S.

This has become my all-time favorite Mexican food restaurant. I love the family-run business model and the food is sublime. The service is friendly and prompt and the drinks are mixed well. The only disappointment I've everhad with Netties is arriving and finding it closed. Please be sure to check the hours if you don't live in Bellevue and are making the trip. My favorite item on the menu is the guacamole. Ambrosial!

Salsa was awesome...food was good but not traditional Mexican food. Kind of disappointed after reading all the reviews.

  • Nicole S.

I love nearby and I don't eat out very often, but I got the chance to try Nettie's and I thought it was great! The service was decent, but a bit slow. The theme of the overall restaurant and the cleanliness is really good, but I'm not sure what someone defines as "authentic" Mexican food. Does it have to be straight from Mexico? Does it just have to be made by someone from Mexico? Either way, my friends and I agree that it's definitely more authentic than Taco Bell and Taco John. The food I ordered was much larger than it expected, which was awesome because I didn't pay very much for my food and I had leftovers for work the next day. I believe that I ordered some form of beans and rice, I honestly can't remember because it was a couple weeks ago, if not longer. Honestly, it's not a bad place at all, and I wouldn't mind eating there again.

This place is a joke! It's not fine and it's not Mexican. My roommate and I were the only Mexicans there, it was like an episode of the twilight zone. People were lined out the door. My enchilada and my roommates' burrito were exactly the same, except my enchilada had sauce. All they serve is gigantic, poorly made and bad tasting food. A giant, cheap, bland, store bought tortilla filled with a pound or two of the cheapest, saltiest ground beef, topped with processed cheese. Our bill came out to $30 something dollars. I spent 5 months in Omaha, this place is by far the worst. The people are so prejudice that they rather eat poison like this than travel half a mile down the street and get fresh, healthy home made style Mexican food for less. The Mexican district consists of restaurants, pottery, bakery, butcher shop, and many small businesses. There is no graffiti, no gangsters, just good people.

Have been there 3 or 4 times for lunch. Food is great. Have had the flautas, chile rellanos, tacos and tamales. They were all great. Chips and salsa are great as well. Service is excellent. Owners are personable and make you feel welcome. Cannot wait to go back.

Hadn't been here for years, but it's still the same high quality. First, to address a couple complaints: they now take cards. Second, I don't think they're trying to be 100% "authentic" but if you're a fan of Tex Mex, this should be on your list of places to hit. Yeah, they're a little heavy-handed with the cheese, but the food's very flavorful. I had a chicken enchilada and taco. The meat was plentiful, well-seasoned and tender. Couldn't have been better. One member of the group ordered a burrito that was only slightly smaller than a pillow. Bonus points for their smoky salsa. A must try.

Ok spot for Americanized Mexican, not my personal favorite.

    (3)
  • Zachary S.

Nettie's is hard to categorize, it's just gut bomb Mexican food. If you like tex-mex with lots of cheese, you will like this place. Sadly I am one of those people. I love the chicken enchilada plate and the bean dip to start. It's definitely not for everyone. This is one of two restaurants in Omaha I always end up going to when back in Omaha.

    (4)
  • Raffy K.

I need to comment after Victor R. He was a bit harsh on that review but he does have a point. This By far one of the most blandest Mexican restaurants I've even been too period in the entire USA. I don't want to use the word "WORSE" but you can interpret your own way. Granted there is tons of cheese served on their plates but it tastes like basic Velveta or close to it. No queso fresco type flavor. A lot of food yes, but hey people if you like that over quality and this place for you. The biggest reason went down another 1-2 stars me and GF ordered 2 house Marg one blended and non blended. Blended I understand it drowns the tequilia but my regular tequila was like a Virgin also absolutely no Tequila in it. It was horrible. Can't recommended this place and hey it's very popular w the locals and we all know how that goes!!! Either your a loyal clientele for reasons other than the food or your not!!!!!!

  • Bill H.

This is another of Omaha's gems. The food is very good, and they don't skimp on the portions. As a cheese lover I love the way they are generous with the portions. They start you with a homemade salsa that has good flavor and a bite to it. While not home made the chips are of good quality and not the Doritos's another reviewer described. My wife loves the margaritas, and we have found the service to be exceptional on our trips over the last year. Overall I 'd recommend Netties as a place you need to try, while it may not be for everyone (snobs) most will enjoy the quality & quantity of the food at a decent price, from a family owned business

WARNING: Pay no attention to the negative reviews. If you read them carefully they are mostly about the service. They have great details and are good reviews. But twos and ones are not right. That is not a fair way to review a place, in my opinion. The food here is excellent... IF YOU GET THE RIGHT THING. And... if you like the ends of the spectrum. Bland... without their chili. Fiery... with their chili. The service is not so good. It is spotty. A lot of regulars come here and if you aren't one of them, well... service could be a bit lacking. What do you order? If you want flavor and spice order anything covered with their chili. The chili is a phenomenal puree of chilies, a touch of tomato, and pork cubes. It is quite hot and deeeeelicious. I like it on Kathy's Nachos, but it works on everything for me. Don't bitch about authentic this and that. They do not claim authentic anything. Even if they did, how does it taste? If it is good what is the problem? Oh. I see. You expected authentic (which may or may not suck) but just got good food instead. What a disappointment. lol And don't EVER bitch about free stuff... i.e. chips and salsa. Some people just do not know how to eat out. I wish they would not post unfair reviews. Let me offer this guideline to dining. 1-The first time anywhere make eye contact and ask questions. Who seats me? Who do I pay? Check please! What food are you known best for? I like ___ food, so what do you recommend? What is your favorite thing on the menu? 2-If, with your new list of logical questions, things still go to hell for you, give the manager a chance to make it right. If the manager treats you badly at that point feel free to slam the the place here. But if the food is good at least say so. : ) Keep in mind businesses need to be treated fairly here, or this website will lose its legitimacy. That is my rant... I'm out!

Love love love this place! Amazing food and even better margaritas!!! Portions are ginormous and the salsa is pretty amazing...just make sure you get a good glass of water first ;) Always have to get some Netties whenever I'm back in town

I love the chicken tacos! The servers are downright rude but if you get it to-go its always great. The bartenders are usually pretty nice.

Third Mexican restaurant since arriving in the area and Nettie's stands at the top of our list! Awesome service! Awesome food! And offers an awesome discount for military members! I have found a new weekly hangout!

  • Terri M.

First time here. Came here because reviews in Yelp were good, except for the one guy. We liked it! The place is uber casual! When you go in, it looks like you've stepped into someones basement! The food was delicious and the table salsa was awesome! Service was how we prefer it, take order, bring order, come to my table once, then leave us alone till we are done! I will definitely go back. I had the chorizo and huevos with rice & beans, yum! And my hubby had the medium Toad Taco. It was pretty big! He loved his meal as well. I will definitely be back when I am on this part of town... Now, off to the zoo!

  • Justin C.

I have been coming here for years. I am still amazed by the amount of food I get for the price. If you don't like what you get you ordered the wrong thing. They may not do the enchiladas or the tacos the way you would do them, but they do them better. I once witnessed someone order a cheese enchilada here. Guess what he got? He got an enormous enchilada filled with only cheese. He didn't like it because there was too much cheese in it. They pile their food up and fill their shells as full as they can. If you ask them to take something off they replace the space with something else. Just the way it should be. The service is hit or miss at times. That is because it is family owned and almost everyone who works there is part of the family. You will quickly figure out who you want to wait on you. If you have a preference let them know when they seat you. If you need something speak up and you will get it.

i've been craving your chile all week and have tried over and over and over again to call and place a to-go order. (402)733-3359??? too bad your phone rings off the hook because no one will answer! get it together, netties! unbelievable

Nettie has great food and friendly service. We are regulars and that in itself should tell you that is good. My husband likes the chili, but it is HOT! Toads, tacos, enchiladas and nachos are yummy! Margarita's are very good and potent just the they should be. You may have to wait for a table, but the food is worth it!

  • Tami J.

went to Netties last night for dinner, and would have been better off staying home. My girlfriend ordered the chimichanga, and by the time we got our food it was ice cold, the tortilla was soggy, and just plain not good. Then the waiter had the nerve to try and argue with me when I complained. Bad food, bad experience, won't ever go back!

  • Kaai L.

Oh my goodness! This place has the best quac ever! I don't normally eat it, but the last time I was there, it looked so good on my husband's plate, I had to try! Well, it was VERY VERY good. If anything, I would come back to this place for this! We've come here a few times, but we don't go very often because it's quite busy. The food is outstanding and try something new every time. I am never dissappointed in my food choices. The only thing not good is the service. We definitely don't come here for the service. The food? Yes! It's amazing.

Have been going to Nettie's since they opened their doors! It is a neighborhood gem that doesn't look like much from the outside, but don't let that fool you. Amazing food, hearty portions and prices you just can't beat! LOVE their chicken nachos and can't find guac anywhere else that is better! I moved from the area three years ago and when I'm back in town this place is always on my list to stop by. I've been known to order their enchiladas, freeze and take back on the plane with me!

  • Joe G.

I've probably been to this restaurant dozens of times over the years and can't wait to go when I'm in town next month. I moved away a year and a half ago and I'm craving the melt in your mouth delicious rice and that spicy salsa! A lot of people complain about too much cheese, just ask for light cheese on your enchilada, etc. That's how I've ordered mine plenty of times in the past and they always come out just right. Honestly, I don't think I've ever ordered anything other than the chicken/beef enchiladas and tacos. I might have to try the chili after reading some of the reviews on here. I love spicy and most of the stuff, including the sauce they bring for your food doesn't have any kick. So disregard anything anyone said about the food being too spicy. They must have wimpy tastes buds. The spicy chip salsa however, tastes amazing on the tacos and enchiladas. The food is worth the wait when there's a line and it generally moves pretty quickly. Don't forget to order a drink from the bar!

Yelp pointed me to Netties with high hopes...a four-star mexican mom and pop shop - time to grub! I get there and love the low key "basement" feel. Cheap tables and chairs don't bother me, I am here to EAT. Chips and salsa were standard. I would really love to find a place with fresh chopped chunky salsa. This was just some type of paste. I had a "toad". Basically a fried flat tortilla with taco stuff on top. It was good b/c it was fried. That won't score a lot of points in my book. I had a tamale to round out the meal, it was average. I also tasted the enchilada...that was good b/c it was smothered in cheese. Again, not the way to do it. Well, it is cheap, so I give them that. I don't plan on going back...maybe I can find a real 4/5-star mexican place here in Omaha!

  • MR. F.

OK, My Parents have raved about this place for a while, so I finally went with them. I have no clue why This place gets good ratings. It is not anywhere near authentic Mexican. It feels like you are in somebody's basement, crowded and no atmosphere whatsoever. Getting chips fresh out of the Lay's bag was the first warning. Who serves cool ranch Doritos at a Mexican place? Service was blah. Food was blah. The price was cheap - I guess that's what keeps them coming. Only rated 2 stars because MR. GREATNESS knows that clueless people like cheap bland Mexican. Note: Do not trust ratings. MR. GREATNESS will steer you to the good places in town.

I seriously cannot believe this place has been around for 25 years! Just so we're clear... This NEGATIVE review is not about the service. Quite simply the food sux! I can make better Mexican food (and it doesn't involve a pound of cheddar cheese)! And for the people of Bellevue.... the only thing "authentic Mexican" about this food is perhaps the people serving it. One way to tell if the food your eating is real Mexican...look AROUND... are any of the other diners MEXICAN! Not at Netties.

I swung by Nettie's to pick up dinner to take to a friend's house for some Very Important World Series watching last week. While the food was ok enough, I found the whole experience a bit befuddling. I walked into the unassuming building and wasn't greeted at all. There was no host/welcome stand, either, so I just waited awkwardly in the main hall for someone to tell me what to do. After having several workers make eye contact but rush past me without saying anything for about five minutes, I finally asked a young busser where I could place a takeout order. He passed me to an older woman who told me to stand at a certain side of the bar. She disappeared, but it became apparent that this area was busy, as I was standing by the flip-floppy door separating the bar from the rest of the space. I decided to hold my ground until the bartender took my order, though. Again, despite making eye contact with her and even waving a little, I waited for about seven minutes before she took my order, but not before she took orders from three other people who arrived after I did. I again stood awkwardly, since there were no seats available around the bar. A couple finally got up, so I quickly stole one of their seats. I waited about 10 minutes after that for my take-out order. During that time, no one offered me a drink or chips. In fact, no one spoke to me at all. The order finally came out, and the bartender handed it over while wordlessly taking my credit card. I left shaking my head. Our order consisted of a regular taco, a taco with only chicken and cheese, a potato/onion/cheese burrito with a side of rice, two orders of rice and beans, and an order of chips and salsa. Everything was packaged nicely, and there were about five little containers of salsa. My potato/onion/cheese burrito was pretty good. The menu description for this item was hilarious, because it stressed that it was for die-hard cheese lovers only, and it certainly was filled with plenty of cheese; a lactard would be in major trouble. But it looked and felt a bit weird because Nettie's used cheddar, and cheddar is hella strange when it's melted and left out too long. The rice was just fine, if not a bit dry. The chips were standard, and the salsa was plain OK. I actually dumped a little salsa into my rice for some more flavor and texture. Our bill was about $30, which wasn't bad. But I wasn't thrilled with the experience. Maybe dining on-site is better?

Netties is a South Omaha legacy. My father went there so often for a burrito and chili, the woman stopped taking his order and just brought him his food. Now I attend somewhat regularly and enjoy introducing the place to others. The salsa is hot and tasty. The cheese enchilada is excellent but not for the faint of heart, and they tell you it is for cheese lovers. I've never had bad service or had to wait, but I only go during lunch. They now take credit cards too. Two thumbs up!

Ok first I would like to clear up that Netties does NOT TAKE CREDIT CARDS. Or debit cards. It does have an ATM, though. I love Netties. Their portions are huge which is great for groups. Service has always been awesome (been going there since I was knee-high) and the food is great! The food is reasonably priced, and drinks are made strong and also pretty fairly priced. As mentioned previously, the red chile sauce is awesome, my mom always gets some to take home for later. Definitely adds some spice to any dish! It is always packed, but there is plenty to look at while you wait. I'm sorry, but if you're going to a more 'authentic' mexican restaurant in the heart of South O and expect a red carpet laid out before you, you're in the wrong place. Although now that I think of it, the carpet is red... ;)

Nice hole in the wall joint. Don't go for fancy atmosphere but enjoy the food. I don't much care for the beef items but the chicken enchiladas are just fine. I have to say, I give it that 4th star solely on their salsa. I can't get enough of it. I do wish they would get some different chips to go with it, but I'll overlook that as a means to get the salsa. Consider asking for half cheese on your meal as they tend to really load it on. If you like tons of cheese on your food then you have got it made.

This is a great Mexican place for people that think LaMesa is good mexican. This place is not authentic [or even tasty]. I should of known better when I sat down and was given store bought chips, then noticed no mention of carne asade, carnitas, pollo or any other mexican staples. Only 'ground beef and shredded chicken.' My wife couldnt even finish her ground beef taco, it was that gross. If your looking for more authentic Mexican food, try Azteca or Hectors [or Alvarados for fast food] And also this place does not take credit cards, but will be happy to charge you a 3$ fee at their ATM.

One of the places I always come to when coming home to visit. I think of Nettie's like I think of your corner Greasy Spoon diner. It is no frills, cheap and the portions are huge. If you want a deep fried puffy taco, an enchilada bursting with cheese, or a huge bowl of bean dip or guacamole..then come here. My favorite thing about Nettie's is their red chile sauce. You can order this poured over any item for an additonal charge and man is it worth it. Very spicy and full of flavor. I have never been to Nettie's when it was not bursting with people..it is always full to the gills no matter what time of day it is. But you wont have to wait long and the wait is worth it..have a margarita from the bar. Nettie's closes for vacation I think 2 times a year so you may want to call and ask..I have gone a couple times only to have the door locked. Over all..my favorite greasy mexican joint in town.

Netties is an average Mexican restaurant. Be sure to only bring cash as they don't accept credit cards and they're a bit snarky about splitting up your bill. The toad and bean dip are the best items on the menu.

went to dinner with some friends here. nothing special about unseasoned ground beef that is used for most of the dishes. over salted beans. won't be going again.

The first thing you need to know about Nettie's is that it's basically located under the Kennedy Freeway. Knowing this fact, does it make sense that you should have high expectations for Nettie's? Send me a message and let me know about all of your five-star dining experiences that occurred below a freeway. If you're one of those people that always has to eat at "the best", you'll probably find something to complain about at Nettie's (as some of the other reviewers have). The fact is that it's cheap and the food is not as awful as some of the other reviewers have suggested. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a new Mexican place to try.

Nettie's is just plain bad. Service is bad and the food is bad.

I have actually had everything on the menu and found some absolute jems. While most people will talk about their bean dip, salsa and chili...all are fantastic, I love their potato and pea enchilada. Tacos are dynamite but their absolute specialty is their chili releno. Their relenos take days to make and are only available every other Saturday. I didn't realize how popular they were until I sat at the bar one Saturday and continually had to listen to Don (great bartender btw) tell people, "sorry, chili relenos are next weekend." If they ever have the relenos while you are there, I suggest ordering one or at least take one home to go. Okay, I agree the chips are not up to Nettie's quality. It doesn't make sense that they would use such store bought yellow salty chips but the salsa makes up for it. There are only a few items I wouldn't recommend. The super burrito is too big and really isn't anything but a bunch of ground beef. I've seen a bunch of people that like that...just not my thing. The other thing they do is use A LOT of cheese, so I always ask for less cheese. To some people those last two really aren't complaints.

First, the negatives. 1. They don't take credit/debit cards which is extremely inconvenient, however they do have a ATM machine.. 2. The service leaves something to be desired. Every time I come to this restaurant, the servers seem very impatient and almost annoyed that you need to take 5 seconds to look over the menu. If you try to ask about items on the menu, the servers make no attempt to 'sell' you on an item or to help you venture into something new. 3. The environment is extremely cramped, usually busy, and you will have to wait on Fridays and Saturdays... OK, now for the positives.. 1. The SALSA!!! Oh how I cannot tell you how much I love this amazing table salsa. I believe the salsa is called chili de arbol, a very spicy blend of tomatoes, dried chili de arbol peppers, garlic, dried cilantro, and salt and pepper to season. How I wish I could get my hands on a recipe that is somewhat close! 2. The food is reasonably priced and extremely well proportioned, you might need a box! 3. The food is usually presented on your plate within 15 minutes which makes the turn around time very fast! 4. Many great dishes to choose from including chili, enchiladas, open faced tacos, and all of your other wonderful tex-mex dishes! I gave Netties a 4 purely based on the salsa, and this is a restaurant I stop in when ever I make it back into town!!

Jen is right they do not take CC or debit, been burned many times I guess or the rates for acceptance is way overboard to make a profit. Either rate do not let this little problem inhibit the chance to try some really well prepared mexican food at very decent prices, with a full service bar, very nice setting down in the lower area of the restaurant. They are closed on Monday's I think.

We come every Friday after work. The staff knows us as regulars so we don't even need to order. We get our drinks, food, and check. We eat it and beat it and life is good. Never a bad meal here.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
