I am VERY conflicted about Sakura :( My husband and I love sushi, and the food is always excellent. We have come back time and time again and will continue to do so so long as things do not decline. However, the service our last two times was abhorrent. We could not believe how awful it was. We are not difficult to please. We had a waitress who sat at the front and talked with her friend during a slow time for 15+ minutes after we sat down. The bartender actually came by our table after he had asked the waitress if she was going to serve us or not... When she finally showed up to our table, she was curt and distracted, and we had to give our order three times as she did not write it down the first two times we gave it. The food was great, but she was terrible! The next time, we came during a busy time. I understand things can take a little longer, no problems there. However, our waitress was basically slow-walking everywhere. She forgot my appetizer and only brought it out AFTER the entree after I asked for it twice, wrote down my order wrong (and so brought the wrong food), never put in my drink order or refilled my drinks once the bartender helped us out, and never once apologized. We watched her wander around slowly and putz around behind the bar with no sense of urgency at all. We actually saw her taking another table's full dinner order before bringing me the corrected order that I could see was ready to go on top of the sushi bar. It was supposed to be two pieces of tuna sushi, and she brought me salmon instead. She also screwed up two other tables that were right next to us.... Unbelievable. I dearly hope that the manager (who is a great guy) can get a handle on his serving staff. The sushi chefs and hibachi chefs are excellent, but the regular table service kills it for us!

It's basically a bar Sushi is pretty good but expensive Teppan-Yaki tables or a big draw but it's loud Full of drunken people Very busy Chinese and Japanese food is average for North Dakota

Shout out to a yummy Japanese restaurant in Minot ND! Who know this little gem existed?! Here are my favorite things: The atmosphere is fun and the restaurant decor is neat. Justin Cabernet in the house!!! Sushi is fresh and yummy! Any of the Special rolls are D-lish! The spring time roll is a fav! Hibachi grill is on point! I recommend just about anything on the menu but really enjoyed the scallops and chicken. Get your karaoke on! They have live karaoke and it's good times! This is defiantly a spot to visit when in Minot!

Yeah Yeah, the show and decoration is nice. But over time their food portions have gone down, but the prices stayed the same. Really disappointed on how this otherwise great restaurant went down hill. ND Asia by far surpasses now.

Never leave disappointed! Sushi is yummy and I'll say it again...one of the best Japanese Restaurants in ND. The staff is very nice and I love the manager. Fun dim atmosphere. Also, a great place to come for lunch. Portions are huge. I'm addicted to this place.

We decided to go hibachi for our 5 year anniversary with our kids (10, 3, 2) because they love watching them cook. The food was good. Now I'm a little surprised by the 5 or more 18% gratis added to our bill considering they never did it before. The service was okay, but it was a little expensive for a family of "5".

this is my 3rd time eating at this place and every time has been incredibly disappointing. this most recent time, I ordered a bento box lunch to go. They didn't give me tempura sauce for my tempura. There was no rice nor California rolls. this will be my last time eating here.

As I read some of the other reviews, it makes me wonder if we went to the same place at all. Every time I have been here, we have had great sushi, very fresh and full of flavor. It's a good atmosphere. You can sit at the bar and watch the chefs prepare your food, have a private booth, or sit at the hibachi table and be entertained by the (sometimes way too) enthusiastic chefs. Allover, it's a good time. I've never tried sushi there I didn't like. (So take that, haters!)

I do not expect any good sushi place in North Dakota, but their sushi actually blows my mind... Visit 3 times within a month of working here. Never leave disappointed!

This hibachi place is located next to Party City and Target. Their hibachi grill dining is always a lot of fun and tasty, but their regular dining isn't the greatest. We've had really rude waiters. We came in and had a waiter literally toss my plate at me and barely serve us but was on top of each and every table but ours! We've come when it's busy and when it's slow and each time we came each of our waiters treated us the same exact way and treated other tables perfectly normal. We always tipped generously and we simply order chicken hibachi and sushi, no crazy out of this world orders and they're always rude to us. I don't understand. We've had 2 nice female waitresses (out of the handful of times we've been here) but that's about it. I really don't like the staff but the food is really good. Their chicken hibachi is the best in town (definitely way better than ND Asia) and their sashimi tastes fresh and not fishy. I would recommend this place is you're having a big group of people coming for hibachi grill, otherwise I don't come here.

Staff were charming & hilarious, you're coming here for the entertainment as much as the food. Romy's Bryan Adams cover was a highlight. If you're passing through Minot, a dinner recommendation, especially when staying at the Best Western. Reception there can give you a 10% discount voucher too.

Very off putting... I was looking forward to eating there but I just noticed that other nationalities ie. Americans were not treated with much respect..after 10 minutes of being ignored by the whole staff including the manager my boyfriend and I decided to leave.. As we were leaving I mentioned to the manager the reason why and he basically shrugged us off as he returned to playing on the computer.. So no I can't review the food didn't get a chance to eat there..

The whole family likes it. Entertaining for the kids, food is good. It does make a difference which chef you get at your table and so can't say there is much consistency. Love the sushi....the variety. This seams a bit pricey at first glance but just had fast food for lunch....not much more at Sakura for a fresh cooked meal.

By far worst hibachi grill I have ever been too! I have been to Sakura in Bismarck and it is wonderful so expected same in Minot! The rice had little to no soy sauce added which made it basically white rice with egg and pepper... The noodles I watched as he added sauce and how dry there were and when plates them tasted like just plain spaghetti noodles so I asked for some teriyaki to help them.. He over cooked the shrimp, the steak was suppose to be medium it is beyond well done, and the chicken dry as a bone!!! I was so very disappointed... I am also a wonderful tipper normally between 20-30% it killed to to leave a $5.00 tip on my $75.00 bill... But after leaving me and my husband both agreed would should have gone to Sonic at least the food would have been edible!

Very fancy, good place to take a date. Yes when we were there they did the whole "Happy Birthday" singing thing for someone, it was cute. Usually people are mad at service workers for NOT trying hard at anything in Minot, so don't knock this place for putting effort into entertaining customers. I favor this place because I miss seeing Asians in large groups (there are obviously more of them in California than there are in North Dakota.) BTW they have tables away from group seating in case you want some privacy.

I spend a lot of time in the Minot area for work and coming from Denver I have certain expectations of restaurants- this one exceeded my expectations. The food was good, the atmosphere was fun, and the service was excellent.

First, the manager took my order when I stopped in for take out. He was super nice. I ordered the combo hibachi meal and my husband order the steak hibachi meal. There was so much food! It came with the protein, salad, soup, rice, and shrimp. For $55 it was worth every penny. My husband and I plan to order a "for two" meal when we have a date night and eat in. The restaurant itself was clean and nicely decorated. We will be back for sure.

This place had to have been one of the strangest Japanese steakhouse I've been to... The manager sings Birthdays through a microphone pumping through an oversized speaker obnoxiously loud. May also include that birthday songs weren't the end of it. He spent 10 min doing microphone checks before he started singing his own made up songs. Awwwffffuuuulll.. Now as for the food very overpriced for the tiny 4oz portions of meat you get with the dinner. The food was very over seasoned and soggy with the sauce that was smothering it. I'm telling you for dinner for 1 you could find allot better way to spend $30. Btw I ordered 1 miller lite and steak and shrimp...Very disappointed!!! I get it its in Minot I was visiting for work and was told that the food was great from a local. To people up north I'm sure this is a fancy restaurant. However in the real world it's a strip mall restaurant that serves not good Japanese food. Sorry it's the truth....

This Japanese steakhouse is as good as it gets here in Minot. The food is great and the sushi is pretty good too! My kids LOVE doing the hibachi grill and enjoy their little show.

Sakura is precisely the kind of restaurant Minot has needed. A nice, clean atmosphere, with a selection of seating to choose from. The presentation at the hibachi tables is very entertaining, the staff both prompt and courteous. The portions are generous, and the lunch specials are very reasonably priced. For those new to and perhaps frightened by the whole sushi concept, I'd recommend they give the tempura shrimp roll a go. I'm a fan of makizushi and such myself, and have really enjoyed what I've tried from Sakura's specialty menu. Even the complimentary green onion and miso soups are delicious. Anyway, I'd strongly recommend the place.

I have mixed emotions about this place. I have eatin here 4 times now since I have been working In North Dakota. First of all the food is great. Truthfully the best food I have eatin up here. But if you go for lunch there appears to only be one person to order food from if you sit at a grill table. Everytime he will get your order wrong. Usually ends up with getting extra food, but at the same time it's quite annoying having to re order 4 times to finally get what you originally ordered. Fix the wait staff and you get 4 stars from me

  • Kyla F.

Food is awesome! Sushi tastes just as great as it does out here in California. 4 stars because we ordered sushi for takeout and they didnt label which was which and didnt tast as fresh as you would when you ordered there, other than that the rest of our food was great.

When this first opened up it was very energetic every time I went there back in 2013. Now that a year has passed, I can rate on how the service and consistency of the food is. You come in and you'll notice the ambience is neon lights with Japanese letters and dim lighting for the setting, very neo-Asian. I think it's a nice touch since we are in Minot, ND where cowboy boots and bull horns hang on nearly every restaurant in the area except this one and the setting it gives off is that of a "night life" kind of feeling. Depending what time you come for lunch, they always have open tables ready to be filled. However; at dinner and during peak hours around 5-8pm, it is ALWAYS packed especially on weekends. You might want to get a reservation ready if you are planning a date or group gathering. I came with my posse of nine with no reservations and thought to myself, we aren't going to get in and it might be at least an hour wait for the hibachi table (I did not want to go to Applebees or Bdubs) Soon enough..15 min later, the hostess called my name and brought us to our table. One star added! The waitress greeted us and asks if we wanted anything to drink. I went off with their alcohol selection and got me a Japanese long island, the only difference from the regular long island is that midori is added to the cocktail. Rating their alcohol and cocktail drinks with my past experience, I wouldn't recommend just coming out for drinks not worth the money with prices $6+. Sometimes they add too much alcohol or too little and gives you that nasty feeling at the end when you finish. The bottled beers are a hit and miss. Sometimes it's cold or sometimes just warm like it been sitting out for 2 hours. Now the let us move on to the food. I got the dragon roll and the hibachi steak. After the fancy knife show, depending on your chef, you will either get more than you expected or the bare minimum. Every time I go here I always get treated with an overload of food and if I'm lucky I'll get the leftover chicken/steak/noodles!! After my group was close to being finish with their dishes, the waitress ALWAYS rushes us to pay our bill which is very normal for hibachi restaurants since they have few grill tables...understandable. One of the best places for sushi (besides the blue elephant) and hibachi. This will satisfy your cravings for anything Japanese. Again, this place is pretty neat for Minot and I'll rate it 5 stars since this is not in a big city like Minneapolis where you can at least get semi-fresh seafood/sushi and this is as good as it will get for Japanese food here, sadly.

My partner and I love eating at Sakura as the sushi is outstanding as well as the food from the grill. The staff is professional and does above average considering some language barriers as the owner goes above and beyond in making sure the customer is being served. Portion size is great and good choices in Asian wines. Lately though in the table area, service has been a little slow. The biggest problem with Sakura's is the NOISE. If you are looking for a quiet place to enjoy a dinner on a date or group of people, DO NOT expect it. Whenever there is a birthday, they play birthday music at VERY LOUD levels which distracts from the atmosphere and the dinner. There is nothing in the room to absorb noise so it is actually very annoying and sometimes destroys the evening. Overall, I love the place but they need to tweak some of the smaller things to make it perfect.

I was in Minot for business and after reading reviews on Yelp, i decided to give this place a try. I came here for dinner with two of my co-workers around 6:30. The place was just starting to fill up, and we got seated right away. Ambiance wise, this place was dimly lit and so it would be a good place for a date night. This is very nicely decorated too, with a trendy yet intimate kind of vibe. Food wise, it was very good. I ordered mixed seafood yaki soba, which is not on the menu (only shrimp yaki soba for seafood) but they were very accommodating to my request. It had scallops, fish cakes, shrimps, onions, and soba noodles in a teriyaki type of sauce. It was very tasty, though I wished it had more veggies. One of my coworkers got the shrimp yaki soba and liked it too. My other coworker ordered the shrimp bento box, which came with quite a bit of food and she also liked it. Everything looked and tasted very fresh. Portion sizes were good too. I finished my dish then had room for some dessert. I went with the fried green tea ice cream and it was so delicious. It was also big enough to share between the 3 of us. Service was the only reason I subtracted one star. Our server seemed rushed and not very knowledge of the menu. He had to go into the kitchen twice to ask whether they can make the mixed seafood yaki soba for me and to find out about the price of that. When the check came, I asked him to split the check and instructed him to charge our credit cards by lining those up with the order of the charges on the bill. He hurried off without really looking at the bill and came back with wrong charges on all 3 cards. We were annoyed but decided it wasn't worth the trouble to wait even longer plus they were all business expenses so we weren't too worried. Service aside, I thought it was a nice restaurant to eat at. Oh, and there were two birthday celebrations there because they played these birthday songs that had an Asian ring to it. It was kind of loud and caught us by surprise both times but it wasn't a deal-breaker by any means.

Great Japanese steak house!! Fun atmosphere and very modern. Staff was very friendly, knowledgable and helpful with questions about the foods or making suggestions. The bartender made some suggestions that were really delicious. The fuji apple saki is awesome !!! We will definitely be going here again!!

Fun, modern Japanese steak house. This is the place if you want to entertain guests. The cooks put on a good show with a party atmosphere. It is loud, so this isn't the best place to hold a conversation. The food is good, service was solid, and it something very different for Minot. The sushi was excellent.

This place is the best asian restaurant your going to get in minot. Its fun, service is good, food is great. Not like those other nasty places I'm sure other people have told you to watch out for. Its not the best japanese food I've ever had but this place is definitely setting the bar for the city right now and i'll definitely be going there a LOT. Can get a little loud and if your at a habachi grill, your may get a little wet!

My boyfriend and I came to dine at Sakura for the sushi. We also ordered the edamame (soy bean) appetizer, which is by far the freshest tasting edamame I have ever had in all the places I have enjoyed sushi! The lighting in this place, even at lunchtime is set to "romantic." I normally don't have an issue reading the menu, but the lighting is just that low! Once my eyes adjusted, I could see a wide variety of sushi available. I also ordered the hot green tea, which tasted very refreshing. I loved the ceramic cups they served the tea in, and of course the fact that they serve the whole tea kettle so that you can refill as you need at the table. My boyfriend ordered the philadelphia roll and california roll. I ordered what I think was called the crab crunch roll (had spicy tuna, crab, salmon, and spicy mayo if I remember correctly), the salmon avocado roll, and the shrimp tempura with salmon and avocado roll. All were completely delicious, and I especially liked the "nice and easy" heat of the one spicy roll I ordered... I normally don't do spicy, but it had a perfect heat/flavor. Whenever it got too hot, I would just follow that bite with a bite of a philadelphia roll so that the cream cheese would cool me down! I especially appreciated that our waiter recommended the special of the day to add to our sushi order. I still have no idea what was in the roll, but it was an interesting taste that I enjoyed! My boyfriend and I both agreed we would need to revisit Sakura and try their sakes or plum wines and maybe even the hibachi grill side of the house where they grill up everything right before your eyes! The groups we saw doing it looked like they were having a great time. Been craving good sushi for a long time, and I am glad I now have a place to go here in Minot when the craving arises again!

Two co workers and I ate there. They have never eaten any kind of sushi . They had a blast watching the guy cook in front of us. There was some other people sitting with us and they had there daughter there with them and she was playing with the wasabi and I told them that stuff is very hot. They thought I was joking with them so they tried a little bit of it. One guy was choking and it almost brought the other guy to tears. They said that was the hottest stuff they have ever had. In all we had a good time service was good and the food as well

Ordered takeout and got the California roll and an assortment of Nigiri. I wasn't impressed. There was so much cucumber in the roll that it over powered the rest of the favors. The rice was to vinegary for my tastes and the fish seemed somewhat mushy. It's not horrible but I have definitely had better! The atmosphere seemed very energetic and fun ( kinda loud) while I picked up my food though it seemed very dark. I would try again but go for the hibachi grill next time around. I think it's a nice add on to the minor area and will certainly curb a sushi craving if I have one but maybe try a different roll next time.

Wow! I wasn't expecting this place to be so nice and the food so good! Modern Japanese Steakhouse decor. Sushi bar. The service was friendly and fast. The food was great! Especially for Minot! Pricey but totally worth it! I ordered the Steak and Chicken Hibatchi Dinner. We were promptly served Soup and Salad, both were very good, standard served in Japanese Steakhouses. The chef then began his show. He was friendly and fast. He cooked the Rice, which was great (no veggies) but great flavor. Next he cooked the Noodles, I wasn't a fan of the Noodles as the sauce was sweeter than I liked. My Husband and Son thought they were great though. After the Noodles he works on the Veggies. Again, I wasn't really a fan of their Vegetable choice (Broccoli, Mushrooms, Onion). They tasted ok but I prefer the traditional Grilled Zuchinni. The Shrimp Appetizer that comes with the dinner (2 shrimp) was DELICIOUS! I wished I ordered the Shrimp Dinner! The Steak was good too though and cooked to perfection. As for the chicken, it was good but kind of bland and was covered in a sweet sauce, which I could have done without, but it was ok. SO much food! Didn't even try the Sushi, but the bar looked good and fresh. Great new addition to Minot! I recommend the Shrimp Hibatchi!! I posted pics, check them out!

I ordered a bento box thinking there was tempura included because it was shown in the picture. After, I got my food I asked where my tempura was but was told it was not included. It would have been cool, however the manager went up to me and told me that "everyone knows that bento boxes does not come with shrimp tempura, especially for this price". He did this in a very arrogant and rude manner to which he just walked away after. He went up to me a little later and told me he would give me $3 off ( which was not even 10% of the bill), which would have been cool, however he also stated that if I go online and found a bento box (tempura included) cheaper than $13.95, then I would get it for free. At this point, I was really offended. So I got on my phone, and voila the first thing that popup is a bento box with tempura for $9.95, which then I showed him. He then proceeded to scold me while yelling and pointing " you're a bad customer, trouble maker, and to never come back". So I paid my bill with $13.95 off and I still tipped my waiter (wasn't his fault and he was nice). I came here many times before and the manager was always nice and I was always respectful to the staff. He might of just been having a bad day, but please do not bring your problems to work especially if you're part of management. With that said, welcomed or not, I would not be coming back.

The food was good, but the service was painfully slow. We waited over an hour at the grill before they started their meal. Definitely the place to go in Minot if you're looking for above average Asian cuisine.
