Today is March 31, 2015 we stopped in for a quick bite to eat we always have great service but today was exceptional Staci A was amazing I thank her for helping me with my choice of food a 2 egg veggie omelet hash browns and wheat toast. The omelet was full of flavor with every bite the hash browns were crispy like I like and the coffee was exceptional really good. If I could give more then 5 stars today I would. Especially for our server she made my day.

Da wifeie is a round, even tempered chief/cook/baker. Whenever we eat here she cleans here plate and says 'that's the best food in town. The staff literal is hopping to keep up. Everything from the eggs Benedict, Western omelet, carmel rolls as big as your head, is excellent. So one of my favorite place to eat. The moose picture is just extra.

It's always a pleasure when traveling on business to find a local place that has good food. I went here twice over 3 days for lunch. The first time I had biscuits and gravy with hash-browns. The biscuits could have been a little better but overall I was pleased. The second time I had a chili burger with fries. That was pretty good as well. If I were a local, I would be hitting this place up regularly.

We enjoyed our breakfast here. The staff is friendly and the service is quick. It was a weekday morning, so not very busy. lots of local college students in attendance. My wife had eggs Benedict, which was very good. The Hollandaise sauce was homemade, not from a mix. One complaint I had was with the toast. it is better described as hot bread with melted butter, for it had no crunch. I had corned beef hash, which tasted good, but again, there was no crisp to it that you usually get when fried on a flat top. It was a hot, wet mess. Everything else was satisfactory.

The kids loved it. This is clearly not upscale but the food is good and the waitstaff is very friendly.

One of Fargo's best kept secrets. Midwestern Americana food at it's best. Friendly and helpful staff with an selection of food and desserts.

Homemade breakfast in a cozy simple style restaurant. Our kids ordered the pancakes and I had eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast. The food was fresh and reminded me of a small town diner. Perfect place for families and people who enjoy getting away from the chains. The Carmel rolls are amazing, we got our rolls togo and the rolls are gigantic! The Shack is one of Fargo's best!

Great comfort food that your southern grandma would make you (if you were from the south of course). Perfect hangover food as well that comes in generous portions at a very affordable price point (most breakfast items/meals were easily under $10). They definitely don't skimp on the butter or sugar, but everything was delicious! The caramel rolls go fast, and so I ordered a cinnamon roll, which was HUGE, with a tasty glob of frosting that made it clear that I would need to share this with my friends in order to avoid diabetes. Ordered the chicken fried steak, which was crispy, juice, and covered in a rich pepper gravy. Next time, looking forward to trying their fried chicken meal!

I love this place. Unassuming and out of the way. This is a true locals' restaurant. My favorite is the turkey wild rice soup. So, so good.

I went to the restaurant with a party of ten and we waited for a half hour for a table ( which I understand due to the size of our party) when we were to be seated the manager thought that it was appropriate to seat us at two different tables that weren't even across from each other. We asked if we could put two tables together and received nothing but attitude from the manager. I was told later through a third party that I had the attitude. I only give a attitude when I receive that kind if attitude. I was looking forward to trying a new place I haven't been to before but I am positive I will never see the inside of that place again. I can't give a review on the food but I can on how I felt we were treated.

I loved my first experience at the Shack and cannot want wait to go back soon. The staff is amazing and warm. I went with a friend for Sunday brunch. I simply had eggs, hash browns and toast. It was my idea of the ideal mom and pop diner, and the food was delicious. The hash browns were spot on - crisp on the outside, soft and warm on the inside. I can't wait to go back and try a list of other menu items including some from the lunch/dinner menu. If you haven't been to the Shack go - and then - go back!

Hot turkey with mashed potatoes gravy and stuffing, naturally I added a ton of butter as usual. This is one of my many favorites they have here. I ordered this before 10am and sure enough they were already ready with turkey and stuffing this early. As good as breakfast is, nothing hits the spot like hot turkey.

The owner reached out to me with an email, so I'm retracting my original review for the time being and will be giving them another chance. My original review was a little harsh, but apparently the lasagna was a new thing they were trying out. Next time I will try something off the regular menu, I will set it at 3 stars for the time being, and will go from there after I make it back over there someday.

Great place for breakfast! Definitely worth the wait. We had omelette, pancakes and hash browns.

Love the caramel rolls here for breakfast. You've got to get here early to get one, but it is well worth the effort. I take out of town friends here for breakfast and they adore it. Blueberry pancakes with your omelette? Of course! Caramel roll the size of my head? Count me in. The manager here is also super friendly and the atmosphere is very relaxed. I do wish their corned beef hash and OJ were made fresh, but the other food is so great I can't knock this place for it.

Stopped here for lunch, and the food was good, but I wouldn't say anything special. If you're looking for good, cheap American food, this is a pretty good place to stop! Our waitress was very friendly and fast too.

Breakfast was good, service outstanding especially with a packed house. Smiles on all staff faces. Great value, fast turn around from ordering to plates on table. There may be a hidden gem somewhere closer to the shopping mall, but way worth the drive to avoid corporate places, chains etc. Just go in accepting your probably going to wait to be seated & parking is a bit tough.

Whew! Everyone knows. Best breakfast in area is the shack. Carmel rolls really! They speak their own language). Service and friendliness best in region. With an owner evolved with all that goes on. Any time of day or night is the right time to visit here. Try the taco omelette. Here!!! Add a single cake great for breakfast lunch dinner for you or two. Well the spot has been best of winner for breakfast for multiple years at breakfast. If that's the meal you want you can get it at any time. The Taco omelette fits in anytime as well. The shack should easily be best of valley breakfast again))) for me and many others I know it is an easy winner of that distinction and much more. Like the real important stuff!!! Most friendly, best service, best owner!!! Best food!!! Best Restaruant ))) if you were traveling the country and someone asked what is FM. You would not be wrong using this as an example of all that is good about the Red River valley! Several Stops here is a must. On a Wednesday visit get the chocolate cake!! You'll see serving that is just not fair to all of the completion the valley has to offer. I just can't leave the place without congratulating all involve at the shack. It is everything a hospitality service of any kind should be. Lines and holding the blinking disk is worth the short wait for when it is time to leave you will know that you got for money's worth while walking to your car you defiantly feel so good in the value, hospitality you've just been shown.

This place is located far north in Fargo, which might explain why this place ranks so high (lack of options). I've lived in town for nearly 20 years and knew that if I wanted to eat here I would have to make a special trip to do just that; maybe I would've been better off just remaining in the dark about this place. My wife and I decided to finally bite the bullet and make the trip up to The Shack last week; first and last time! My wife ordered the Eggs Benedict, and I decided to go with their Appetizer Sampler Platter (I wasn't in a breakfast mood that day). I couldn't even tell what half the items on my plate were until I broke them open to see what was on the inside, and when I did a pool of grease began to form under each item. It was so disgusting I couldn't even finish half of it! There's not an Eggs Benedict (ANY kind) that my wife hasn't liked; until now. She ate one of the two on her plate, and stated she couldn't eat the other one. I gave it a try, seeing as I was still hungry, but a single bite was all I could stomach. I could see why she didn't care for it. When the waitress came by to ask how everything was, I informed her that neither one of us cared very much for either dish; I even went so far as to explain, specifically, what was wrong. She informed us that even though she was sorry we didn't like our food, we apparently liked it enough to eat half of what was on our plates. Really? Even the worst of the chain restaurants (think Denny's) has food (and service) that puts this place to shame! It's entirely possible that we came on a bad day, but I'm doubting that very much. I can say that we've eaten at The Shack, but I can also say that we will never be eating there again!

The Shack is a family-friendly, diner-style restaurant in north Fargo. It serves a mishmash of classic American breakfasts, featuring eggs, potatoes, and your choice of common morning carbohydrates (toast, waffles, pancakes). The lunch and dinner meals focus more on sandwiches or quick, filling meals and the expected sides. You can order and enjoy your meal at the diner bar where you can watch the cooks and waitresses assemble the meals for patrons, or there are small tables, geared for single family dining experiences (or fewer). This style of restaurant is probably one of the most common, and there is nothing unexpected here. So why does the Shack stand out? Based on my experiences, they do everything the way that its SUPPOSED to be done, and they don't just do it better than everyone else, they do it right. They don't hide behind gimmicks, and were clearly letting their classic takes on breakfast foods represent themselves. The eggs were made-to-order and were cooked excellently--not overdone, not underdone. The meats were nothing special, but they were made the way that they should have been made, and consistently. The pancakes were amazing, and from now on will be either my go-to breakfast when I'm visiting or a staple side order. Across the table, the potatoes were cooked exactly like you would expect before diners were commonly commercialized. Across the table of friends that I hosted, there were full and contented bellies. Honestly, the Shack is a throwback to an era of family dining when you knew what you expected, but it was the job of the restaurant to do even better. In this regard, the Shack delivers amply. I went on a Sunday, and you can expect a wait as the churchgoers are certainly frequent customers. Being a family restaurant, the age distribution of guests ranged from just born to the elderly with every single age group represented between so it might not be the best place to show up really hungover. Seating was limited, but my friends and I waited no longer than 20 minutes before we were seated.

With diners, your mileage will vary. Some are very good, some are so-so, and others are just plain awful. The Shack on Broadway falls into the first category. Avoiding the gimmicks and conformity of your typical chain restaurant or fast food joint, the selection is quite fair and the food is even better. Breakfasts are definitely their strength. The hash browns are nice and crisp; the country gravy is even better! The meat lovers omelet lives up to its name; it has loads of sausage, ham and bacon that combine with the eggs and cheese! You can't go wrong with the country fried steak plus they serve Eggs Benedict too! This place is worth a trip for a superior breakfast!

I had the Meat Lover's Omelet which was filled with meat, cheese and egg goodness. I ordered the side of pancakes and they were delicious. The hashbrowns had a buttery- oil taste which I did not care for. I would definitely eat there again and bring my folks. The place was busy with a fifteen minute wait.

Really no big deal. Lot of hype. Maybe it's good for Fargo but out West I've been to much better places. They don't even have soy milk for coffee. That alone sets the scene. The food was ok. Muffin was mushy and small for a homemade muffin, it seemed industrial. Coffee was acceptable.

If you like homemade food away from home, then you will love The Shack! Everything at The Shack is made from scratch, from the pies and cookies to the turkey on the Club Sandwich. Breakfast is a favorite at The Shack! Very affordable and quick, you can get a favorite egg breakfast, pancakes or biscuits and gravy! For lunch a favorite of mine, as mentioned, is the Club Sandwich. The turkey is made fresh at the restaurant and carved there. Yep, carved, not shaved! And is a very hearty sandwich. Also, the soups are delicious and, of course, made from scratch! If you are on the far northside of Fargo and want a homecooked meal without breaking a sweat or your wallet, I highly recommend The Shack!

We were rolling though town on a cross-country road trip when we decided to stop for breakfast. 'Siri' recommended this place, and I'm glad she did! My daughter and I had a wonderful breakfast, and I enjoyed the fact that smaller portions were available for 'seniors' and others with small appetites. Excellent food, friendly staff and worth a bit of a ride outside the main drag.

By far the best breakfast in Fargo. The eggs Benedict are amazing, service is always great, and prices can't be beat!

I have a lot of respect for this place after seeing the owner work harder than anyone else for Sunday breakfast. Seating tables, getting drinks, while still managing the crew. It was awesome to see this, but most importantly the food was great. Fantastic buttermilk pancakes, and the breakfast hash was spot on. Just douce some Louisiana Hot Sauce on it and you're in taste heaven, and heat hell. If you're into that sort of thing. They should try to find a way to create more seating though. They're very busy on the Sundays I've been there. The walls are a tad awkward, and the space behind the bar could be minimized to create more seating. That's my only complaint or suggestion to this wonderful little shack.

I had the chicken fried steak, side salad, and sweet potato waffle fries. The salad was plain, but the steak and fries were both great. The waitstaff was very friendly.

Cheap, good breakfast. It reminds me of walking into a small town cafe. The servers wear their street clothes with aprons and know most of the regulars names and what their orders are. I had the eggs benedict and it was absolutely amazing. When I am back in Fargo I will swing by here for breakfast.

Your basic roadside diner. We had an omelet and a burger. Massive portions of meh food. Service was gracious, which bumps it up a star. Prices about average for Fargo. Way off the tourist track (such as it is), though convenient to the Air Museum. Nothing special, but if you're in the area, I suppose so.

This is a great place to eat! The Hooligan chili is good on everything. They have the biggest cookies I've seen anywhere. And it's right in my neighborhood. Great food, small town atmosphere, and good people.

I have ate at the Shack quite a few times over the last year and I have an apartment room with a window looking over directly at the building and parking lot. I also have been working in the restaurant industry for almost 4 years with another year of manager/supervising experience at a popular Mexican restaurant. Let me start by saying that the service and efficiency of a diner that size is amazing. They have a home feel with consistent service and food. Nothing there comes out looking poor or cooked incorrectly, in fact it actually comes out looking amazing. But the flavor is the best part, with an unmatchable home-cooked pancake recipe and crazy good omelette selection, I could eat breakfast anytime of the day. Which leads to the downfall, the hours. Their hours of operation are very limited but with the style of ownership (I'm pretty sure the owners work there) they run it is understandable. Overall, if you want an outstanding yet basic down home diner unlike any in the Midwest PLEASE give this place a try!!

This is a straight shot from downtown. But I never would have found it if I hadn't been roaming all over searching for bookstores. It was lunchtime, and I just got a BLT, and they just use regular bread so it wasn't outstanding. I'd like to suggest to use a higher quality bakery bread for sandwiches. I got the soup. It was a loaded cup of turkey noodle, with the thick noodles. Now that was homemade. I took a bite out of the bacon cheeseburger, and that was really good. I noticed on the menu a family recipe for pancakes. I asked if they carry pure maple, had no clue so they call over the owner, Tanya Bale. She takes the time to have a discussion about syrup, and she actually has a customer that they keep his on hand, that he bought just for these pancakes. I gotta meet this guy, he speaks my language. So she gladly will allow me to bring my own in. This is the most non stressed owner I've ever seen. She's smiling, took time out for me, she even wears the same brown Shack shirt as the rest of the staff. Anyway, I bought some syrup (from Maine), and after church I rush over and experience this breakfast. Now I know where to go on my next trip to Fargo, and what a sendoff back to the Twin Cities.
