Well, as far as authentic Mexican food goes, you are in the wrong place. The food is bland and boring with being Mexican in style only. A taco is a taco and nothing special. Chips aren't fresh and the service is slow. Here is what this place has going for it. -cool location and downtown atmosphere -if you like your salsa smooth with no chucks, there salsa is pretty yummy and a Fargo classic. -fried ice cream!!! We had guests from California even have it and say its delicious. All in all, because of the history of the place it's probably going to be here for a while, but they could use a little clean up on the recipes. Love to see something more inspired from their kitchen. Maybe someday.

Generic "North Dakota" mexican. It's edible. It's bland. It tastes like it came out of the microwave. I do like the free salsa. And the atmosphere is nice. But the food is BLAH and boring big time.

I've given Mexican Village so many chances, I really have. My friends like going there for the margaritas, and admittedly they are a good deal--wayyyy too much sugar, but not bad for a fake mexican place. But besides that and besides the salsa (also mediocre, but addicting enough when you add overly salty chips in the mix), I am constantly dissatisfied. They do well with the descriptions to give them a good vibe, but then they arrive, and everything I've ever ordered has been completely tasteless. I went this week and ordered the fajita salad and again was excited about the possibility, weighing in on what came with it. An excessive amount of shredded iceberg lettuce, overcooked, dry beef, probably the worst tomatoes that I've ever eaten, and seasonless, awful guacamole (I'm always a huge guac critic as I make my own all the time and can't understand how it can be hard to just add in some more seasonings). Ok, 1 star because the service is always good. Clean place at both locations. They have great happy hour deals, and admittedly it's an ok place to take the family, I'm sure kids would love the vibe. But honestly, don't bother buying into the family restaurant vibe, because it is so very overpriced--in general, and especially considering the quality.

As soon as I entered this restaurant, I have a special feeling about this place. Look absolutely unappetising from outside but, its an absolute grandeur interior design. It feels like you were taken back in time and have yourself stranded in a little mexican village. This place is 5 stars for decoration and that little fountain in the middle of the restaurant. Oh you even have a feeling that you might get stab in the alley to the restroom. Very very good interior design. But hey, lets talk about the food. I dont know if I ordered the wrong food or if I just dont know how to order. The best thing I like is the tortilla chip with the salsa that they give away for free. I dont like my chicken fajita cos its dry and feels like its been sitting at the food warmer for a long time, no juice whatsover from the chicken. My gf chimichangas seems so overcooked with the sourcream. I try to like it, but maybe mexican food is just not for me. A lot of customers come in for lunch though. I saw lots of business woman caucasian that pop in for a quick lunch. Maybe they just want to feel like they are away from their busy hectic lunch and pop in mexico for a while.

A standard Mexican restaurant as far as they go. Mexican Village has some serious strengths in its favor. The daiquiris are super duper with a variety of flavors (sour apple, orange cream, raspberry) and I love the lime margarita pie. This places makes a DYNAMITE chicken tortilla soup that's even better as part of a lunch combo. You must eat at Mexican Village!

Maybe there was a time when Mexican Village (MV) was considered a decent restaurant. But not lately. Not in the last several decades. Against my better judgement, I gave them another chance. A call in order. Simple. One order of nachos, to pick up. I'm driving and call in the order. MC person on the phone seems agitated because I don't know which of the nacho options I want. Sorry, I don't have your menu in front of me. And I don't remember your menu well, having sworn off the restaurant 5 years ago because that visit sucked. She finally determined which version of nachos I needed and hung up on me. Didn't take a name, number, or ask if I needed anything else. Good was just coming out of the kitchen when I arrived, but a 5 minute drive to my destination did not help the already low quality. Meat, cheese, Jalapenos, soggy chips. Lukewarm. $13 including $2 tip. Learned my lesson again...skip Mexican Village.

They are lucky to be getting one star....this place has generic manufactured store bought food items written ALLLLLL over it. The atmosphere is great and had us excited for our first Mexican meal in Fargo and BLAHHHH it was terrible. The chips and salsa were straight out of a cheap bag and jar....the salsa had really strong flavors of cumin...yes cumin...I could see maybe adding a little to change it up but honestly it was the strongest we could taste. If you're looking for good Mexican don't go here! We ended up blowing 18 dollars on lunch, it wasn't cheap and the food was all terrible. The best part of the meal, my husband ordered sour cream on the side and they practically gave him a cereal bowl sized amount of it...who uses that much sour cream? Honestly it was delicious and I secretly wanted to get a to go box to take it home because it was the best part of the whole meal and also I hate wasting.

Well, I have had good and bad experiences here; I remember one year that three of my friends had food poisoning, but they were very responsive to the inquiry and reimbursed my friends without question. Birthdays are fun - the staff breaks out in song and embarrasses whomever may be the target. Drinks here flow plentifully, too. We used to come here to celebrate Science Olympiads. Other times haven't been marred by this, but the service at times has been slower. The salsa and chips here are less exciting than the Paradiso's, but they aren't bad.

This is an Americanized Mexican restaurant that's been in business here in downtown Fargo since 1970. Had the poco loco for lunch today (no taco). Pretty good! The sauce was hot but not too hot. Lots of cheese but not overwhelming. Good portion of ground beef inside layered fajitas. Recommend this place.

Deciding to eat dinner at "Mexican Village" was a huge mistake. Everything from the chips and salsa, service, knowledge of the menu, and taste of the food was horrible. The food tasted very old and even looked old. When I first saw my food I instantly thought of the show "Kitchen Nightmares" it was that gross looking. Have you ever seen beans that have been sitting out for a couple days? Yeah, that's what they looked like and tasted also. I'm not one to complain about food, I love food and am not picky, but this place was such a bad experience for my friends and I, I felt like I had to write a review to inform others of the poor quality. Nothing was good about it at all and I will NEVER go eat there again.

Best Mexican food I can find anywhere in ND or MN lol. Great fajitas, unreal queso (add beef to it for the perfect taste), awesome chicken burritos, gravy etc. This is a must try!

My husband chose this as his birthday dinner (Free with purchase of equal or greater value). We were a little nervous because we've recently relocated from AZ and are a bit spoiled with tasty Mexican cuisine. This place would fit in GREAT down there. We went a little later (after the games on Sunday) so it was pretty quiet. There were a few other tables, but there was no wait for a table/service. It being Sunday we also got the kids meal for the little guy free. Worked out great! The kids enjoyed their burger (not from the kids menu) & hot dog (kids menu) while the adults feasted on tasty authentic dishes. Our server was knowledgeable on the dishes ingredients when we were ordering. We never ran out of beverages and our she checked in a few times to make sure we had everything we wanted. My only complaint is that the take out boxes are the thinner variety so trying to juggle them and the kids left the side of one collapsing. But that's not something that will keep me from going back. Maybe next time we'll see if they have a bag. =)

This is a joke of a Mexican restuarant! The menu includes "gravy" and pasta?! No Mexican restuarant needs either. The chips are awful even. Don't waste your money at this "Mexican" restuarant. Yuck!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
