Good, solid burgers make it a 3-star. The exceptionally friendly service makes it a 4. Not the "best burgers in the world" as the sign outside asserts, but decent home-made style. And the entire staff was over-the-top helpful seeing that we were clearly from waaaaay out of town.

It was a good place to grab lunch. We had just stopped at the State Capitol. The server was friendly. The food was okay. The chicken dumpling soup was very tasty and the chicken salad sandwich was good too. Hubby's burger was good, too.

One of my favorite restaurants in Bismarck. Food is always very consistently good and it's such a unique place! Their burgers are amazing, and the onion rings are the best EVER. Seriously. Prices are decent and they have something for everyone. Also their chocolate chip cookies are delicious!!

We had lunch here one day and it was pretty good. I am not a huge fan of thick burgers, and theirs were thick. My husband liked his a lot though. He likes them like that and was very happy that he was able to get onion rings too. We both liked that fact that it was a non-chain burger place. We really like to try those independent places when we can. Even though I didn't have an an out of this world experience, I would still recommend this place. Next time I might try something else. I am disappointed that we didn't try a shake. They looked phenomenal. Next time .Please check out my other restaurant and attraction reviews on our travel blog at ourtravelingblog.com .

Great food and ordering by phone is super interesting/old school. Would like to see this place clean up a big but over all, I'd be back to eat there!

Been coming here for 10 plus years and never disappointed. Absolutely love this place. Always stop by when I'm back in Bismarck. Keep up the great food!

Burgers and shakes are delicious- you can tell they are homemade. Kids love to place order over the phone in the booth. Owner stopped by to say hello, thank us for coming in and to make sure everything was good. A unique dining experience (not a chain), with good food and great service all at a reasonable price! Will be coming back next time we are in Bismarck!

The Woodhouse is by far my favorite burger place in Bismarck/Mandan! The beef is incredible and the wait time is very reasonable. The restaurant environment is quite outdated but the food certainly makes up for it! I particularly enjoy utilizing the drive-thru window when i'm craving a great to-go burger or platter.

Good burgers and fries, but the lemon meringue pie was mediocre. Ordering by phone was unique and fun. Lots of seating. Not divey, but a typical diner.

The food is ok, it's a burger... Place was dirty The back of the house however was disgusting. As we waited for our food we got to listen to the cooks talk loudly about their "oozing herpes" Will NEVER return. Gross!!

Onion rings were very good and chocolate shake was great. Order via phone takes me back to my childhood. Will try it again if I come back through Bismarck,.

Tasty burger for sure. Love the kitchy-ness of this place. Super old and simple with tasty food.

Visited while serving during the 2011 Minot flood. Easy walking distance from the hotel, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality for the food, the service that was prompt but not hovering, and especially the retro decor.

This place offers a unique dining experience. The food was good and so was the service. They were quite fast on delivery as well. Although I did like my experience here of getting to phone in my order from the table, there wasn't too much to rave about. Not bad at all though.

It's a good stop for the gimmicky ordering method (via phone at the table). The burgers and fries were average...the malts were great.

Truly a local diner experience. Unique setting. Great food. Grind their own hamburger each morning from what I remember. Family owned for many years. Never have had a bad experience over the years! Place to go with out of town friends and family visit.

Not as good as I remember. Higher prices and average food. Shake was not mixes throughly and burger overcooked.

You can't go wrong with their delicious buffalo burgers and famous chili soup!! The atmosphere is laid back and the service is always friendly. One of my favorite restaurants in Bismarck!

Definitely not the best burger I ever had, but service was very quick and the food was very hot.

This place is a slice of Americana. Just the kind that I expect to find on the road while dodging the chains. Orders are taken by an old phone handset next to the mounted menu, kinda cool. I had the buffalo burger (well done is the only option-health dept. reg's they said) with a bowl of the mildest chili I've ever tasted (although well flavored), accompanied by one the very best chocolate malts ever created. The really great part of this place is what they did after I forgot my hat. Of course I remembered where it was during my layover in Denver. I called the restaurant and they offered to send it to me, we couldn't figure out how to e-mail the postage, but they shipped it anyhow. True Americana, I'll be back.

Burgers were tasty to my surprise. Total dumpy place and super kitchy. Check it out!

The cheese burger is good. However, the chicken dinner was flavorless and broasted potato just too greasy. Service needs improvement. The ordering method unique--won't be returning.

Wow! Not impressed. Terrible service. Server too busy counting drawer to greet me. Bus boy doesn't eat here so couldn't tell me about a dish. And then there is the broasted chicken - terribly overcooked and the smallest pieces ever. When I asked about the chicken the server replied, "anything else?" totally ignoring my concern. If the chocolate malt had not been so tasty this would be a solid one star. I do not recommend!

I give it an extra star for the kitchiness and retro feel. Reminds me of when I was a kid.... Even down to the greasy smell that stays on your clothes for a week. But the burger? Me no think so.... Very VERY salty, super thin patty with "secret sauce" that is basically ketchup, mustard and "miracle whip". A deluxe burger cost $1.50 extra and basically consists of lettuce and tomato. The hamburger bun was bland and twice the size of the hamburger patty. On a good note the fries were HOT, greasy and tasty. Pies looked yummy.

Love this place. Burgers are sooo good and the onion rings are super yummy. I like the way you place your order through the phone- its fun.

Wow, what a hole in the wall. A nice rest stop for weary travelers, I stopped here with my parents on a recent trip to visit family in western North Dakota. My parents actually used to live in Bismarck way back in the 1970s, and this place looks like it hasn't changed since then! This either comes off as kitschy or cozy. There are some healthy options on the menu but you have to look rather hard for them. If you are looking for a light healthy meal, I'd probably suggest you head elsewhere. The burgers here are pretty good though. It's an interesting concept - ordering from a telephone attached to the booth. I don't know how practical it is, but it sure is memorable! We stopped here twice and I had the buffalo platter. It's a pretty good deal and buffalo burgers are one of the things I look forward to whenever I travel "out west" because nothing says roaming the highways of the plains like some buffalo grub, right? They have some old-fashioned malts I'd like to try next time I'm out that way.

Great "flash back diner" feel! The staff is friendly. The phone on the wall ordering was unique. Had the buffalo burger with a salad. The salad was very fresh and crispy. The buffalo burger was unique and not at all what I expected. It was very good! Definitely return for future buffalo burgers!

Fantastic burgers. Best in Bismarck... Double check your orders when you go through the drive through. They have forgotten an item here and there.

I grew up at the Woodhouse and visited last weekend again, nothing has changed (even the 1970's era high chairs on rollers). I usually have the Frenchie but branched out to the bison burger. It was nice and juicy. We were too full for their pie. Next time.

Oh, dear. I know the Wood House claims they have the "world's best burger," but I have to assume that means they've never tried burgers anywhere else. The inside kitch was cute: original phone-in-your-order-from-the-booth setup. The onion rings (burgers come with a couple rings and an order of fries) were good. The burger itself was on a regular ole bun, not even with poppyseeds on top, the pickle slices were prolific (ick), but the taste was just a'ight. The waitress also never offered us refills, and I'm a prolific soda drinker. I'd go here again, when I'm 80, and fit right in with the rest of the clientele.

Not impressed. I had a bacon cheese burger and onion rings. Both were rather bland. Serving size was small at best. Service was non existant. Place is rather dated and dingy. Maybe other things on the menu are better but I wont be heading back to find out.

Advertised as "The world's best hamburger". This is one of the few places I'll order a hamburger instead of a cheeseburger. In my list for Top 3 burgers in town. $5 lunch combo is a great price for the quality of the food and their odd-shaped drive thru is fun to drive through.

I've heard mixed reviews about this place but I love it. The ordering process is innovative and the food is really really good. I'm not much of a burger fan but I was dragged here by friends. I was happy I went, I did love the burger!

This place is one of my favorites from childhood. I still get a little excited to order my food from the phone at the booth. The decor is outdated, the menu is not very big, and the food is definitely not health conscious, but it is a great restaurant. I don't know if they have the worlds best burger, but it certainly ranks pretty high on my list.

If this burger does not impress you, what does? Woodhouse is the best burger I've ever had, bar none. When my wife, my brother, his girlfriend, and I were in Bismarck for my grandfather's funeral, we saw the big, green sign outside the Woodhouse that says "World's Best Burgers." We laughed and said, "Oh right, world's best burgers. They've never had a Double Double from In-N-Out Burger." Then we went to eat at Woodhouse just to try the burger and laugh at these North Dakota bumpkins with their goofy green sign and tell them that they wouldn't know the world's best burger if it jumped onto their plate. When the burgers arrived, we all had one last laugh and started eating. No one said a word until we were about halfway through our burgers. The only sounds from the table were a bunch of gobbling and swallowing. Finally, I turned to my brother and said, "Whoa, this is pretty good." He gave his burger a quizzical look and said, "Yep. This is a damn good burger." I took another bite and said, "Real damn good." With each bite, we realized that we were experiencing a burger unlike any we'd had before. By the time we finished, every one of us at the table agreed that the dopey green sign was right, the North Dakotans weren't so bumpkinish as we thought, and in fact, this was the world's best burger. We were in ND for three days and ate there four times. We live in San Francisco, a city that has been honored with the title of best food city in the United States multiple times by multiple food publications. We've had the best burgers (fast food and gourmet) that the bay area has to offer and we're confident in saying that the Woodhouse blows them all away. As proof that God has a taste for irony, he put the world's best burger in the middle of nowhere, in a city that most people will never visit. But at least I know where it is. Now I just have to figure out a reason to go back there.

Cheese frenchees all the way! What's not to like about a deep fried grilled cheese sandwich? There's no modern cuisine, here. The food is just like it was in the 70s when I can first remember dining here. It's fun to "call in" your order from the booth phone, too. Last time we were there, I got to order a slice of the pie and it was heaven.
