I've been to hundreds of Subway's across the country, and maybe only one of those wasn't up to par. Subway is like McDonald's when it comes to consistency, and I can almost always have a great sub in any Subway. There's one single reason I give this Subway 3-stars. The food is consistent, but more often than not the staff hasn't been trained enough. I almost always get the same sub, with the same ingredients, and at least 50% of the time the staff can't seem to figure out how to make the darn thing so it's not practically busting out of its wrapper, much less wrap it up well. Some of the staff will actually slice the bread across the top (wtf?), some don't cut the bread all the way open, which makes them have to tear it open, leaving clumps of bread, and makes it difficult to put in the meat and veggies. Man, how hard is that anyway? It's sad when you see the same sub being made, and some staff members not being able to figure out how to put the meat in after all the veggies are added because they don't have room - while others have absolutely no problem doing it right, and not relying on the wrapping paper to tie the whole mess together. It's simple science, actually... This is all due to real poor management, and not properly training their staff. Management must think "hey, it's just a darned sub, who could mess that up?" Well, they sure as hell can mess it up - half the time I get a sub there, it's a complete mess. Then there's the staff who act as if each slice of tomato is coming out of their wallet, making you keep saying "please, how 'bout a little more, then having to repeat it! I almost always get the chicken teriyaki, and I'm sorry, for the ridiculous price of nearly $9-bucks, I AT LEAST WANT A DECENT SUB MADE, IN A FASHION WHERE I CAN EAT THE DARNED THING WITHOUT HALF OF IT FALLING APART! There's lots of great places to eat around Lenoir for way less cost, including tip and a sweet tea (check out Bud's, you can get a terrific two piece fried chicken lunch, two sides and a sweet tea for $6-bucks). So here's a message for the manager/owner: GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER, AND TRAIN ALL YOUR STAFF IN HOW TO MAKE A DARNED SUB CORRECTLY! Ever since the prices got jacked up, and few specials or coupons are no longer available, I cut back going there because if I'm going to drop almost $9-bucks on a foot long sub, I expect it to be made well. I'm sure it's hard to find decent employees (and I have to say almost all the staff there are absolutely wonderful folks), but it's MANAGEMENT'S job to bird-dog the staff and teach them a lot more about making a sub than you seem to obviously skip doing. The franchise doesn't run itself, so maybe you should hang around there more. I think I'm going to have to try the Subway off Blowing Rock Blvd from here on out - maybe they've got their act more together than your franchise. Consider this free helpful criticism - you definitely need a healthy dose of it.
