Called in an order for a small salad and a cup of clam chowder soup. After getting there 20 minutes later, I was told very rudely by the girl that it was not ready while she rolled her eyes at the fact that I thought it could be. After 15 more minutes, my food finally came out. The small salad and cup of soups came to 15.00. When I asked the price of each item, another very rude lady gave me a snappy answer telling me that there was only one price for take out soup orders. When I got home and tried the soup, it was ice cold. Not room temperature cold but ICE cold. Now since I just got a soup and salad I can not base this rating on the food BUT I do believe that service in a restaurant is just as important as the food. I will have to be VERY desperate for food if I end up going in there again ...

Love this place. The prices are reasonable and you always get way too much to eat. And the food is always GREAT!!

I have been going to Tides Inn for the last 30+ years and I have to admit I have mixed feelings about this place. Let me share the good and the bad: The Good: 1) Nice sized portions that will more than fill you up. 2) Good popcorn shrimp and fried oysters (my usual). 3) Pretty quick service and order turnaround time. The Bad: 1) Horrible location. You know it's bad when Tides Inn has a security guard in front of the business, along with the armed security guard for the liquor store next door. Make no doubt, I carry my weapon with me anytime I go to this place or anywhere else on High Point Road. 2) Decor: Oh my gosh, the decor is so old and dated and I do not think they have made any improvements to the place in 20 years or more. If I could find one word to describe the place, it would be DISGUSTING. My family stopped eating in after we could not stand to look at the inside any longer. Now we are strictly takeout. 3) Food taste: Is there a word that is worse than bland? I can't speak to all menu items since I only buy the popcorn shrimp, fried oysters, fries and hush puppies. The shrimp and oysters are the ONLY thing that keeps me coming back. However, the French fries have no taste at all and I am not kidding when I say that at 53 years old, these French fries are the worst I have ever had. There does not seem to be any salt or flavoring on them whatsoever. Sadly, when I get home with my combination plate, I throw the fries in the trash can because they are practically inedible. The hush puppies fall into the same category as the French fries. The hush puppies look fine, but they lack an southern taste and do not even come close to tasting like authentic hush puppies. 4) I know this may sound petty to some people, but I do not like wait staff calling me "Baby", "Sweetie Pie", "You Guys", or any of the other names they prefer to use. I am old enough to remember how to address someone with courtesy and cannot understand why people have such a hard time calling me "Sir" or my wife "Ma'am". Considering this is a seafood restaurant that has been in this location for as long as it has, it is obvious that the owner does not care about the taste of the food, the decor of his restaurant, and most importantly, value the customers who keep him in business. So, tonight I ordered takeout once again and finally reached my last straw when I saw the French fries and hush puppies get thrown in the trash again. I paid over $30 for two takeout boxes and ended up throwing half of it in the trash like I always do. No more! This was the last time I will give Tides Inn my business and will avoid them in the future. There are too many restaurants in Greensboro that deserve my business and I will not reward the lazy owner of Tides Inn who does not value my business.

This is the best seafood restaurant hands down. Very inexpensive and enough food to feed an army. Seafood always fresh and hot when the plate comes to you. Very cozy atmosphere. Staff is very courteous.

I don't eat here because I'm allergic to shellfish. But my grandma LOVES their food and I love that they happen to be located less than 5 minutes away. They're very polite and fast and I've never had a problem with my orders.

We ordered take-out and this was my first time trying this place. We ordered over the phone and calculated it to be around $65 so that's how much cash we brought with us. We got there and they told us our total was $79. We questioned it and the cashier told us they charge a takeout fee. It was really busy since it was Saturday night so we didn't argue but they wouldn't take a credit card over the phone so we had to have someone come and bring us more cash. It was a hassle. We finally get the food home an hour after it was ready and the fries were already stale, very stale. So no one ate those. The rest of the food was ok but it wasn't anything special. The coleslaw was really good but each platter only came with 2 tablespoons of it. It is seafood but very battered and so far from healthy. It wasn't worth all the hassle. We recalculated the total and added the taxes and the takeout fee that is listed on their menu and realized we were robbed by at least $10. We think they might have charged us for an extra order. Not surprising since they use an old school cash register and I question the accuracy of the cashier and her ability to read the hand written order tickets they use. I won't be going back, it's not worth the effort or the money.

"Never disappointing and a ton of food for your money. There is a reason why other seafood restaurants consistantly fail on this side of town...Tides Inn kills them! My only suggestion would be to update the place just a bit."

I could not believe they had not been reviewed. It is located in a strip mall and is a can't miss whenever I am in the area. I drove over from a trip in Winston-Salem for the fresh seafood that they serve to you in minutes - steaming hot. The fried shrimp were great - the scallops very good and it a great place to get some seafood. If you are in the area, you will find it one of the places the locals go and they go often.

This was my favorite seafood restaurant when I lived in Greensboro and since I moved away I compare others to Tides Inn, but I ate here this weekend and was so very disappointed. The fried flounder was so thin it had almost no "meat" on it and the baked potato was not done nor was it hot. I will say, the fried shrimp was hot and tasty. The service was as good as it ever was. However, a couple of the waitresses were loudly discussing their drunken adventures the night before and I didn't really feel this was appropriate for a family atmosphere (JMO). I may or may not go back here when I'm in town again.
