We dropped by daisy cakes after browsing through the farmers market on Saturday. We had already eaten at the food trucks so we just stopped by for some baked goods! If u are gluten free- this is your place!!! Majority of their baked goods are gluten free. They're cookies are huge!!! I was a bit disappointed with their chocolate chip cookie.... There was barely any chocolate in it:/. I ended up biting off the chocolate chunks and leaving most of the cookie part uneaten. And sadly, I could tell it was "gluten free"... Seemed less sweet and dessert-y. Cute rustic ambiance and nice display of desserts.... Otherwise:) would be great for coffee after strolling through farmers market!

My sister and I purchased cupcakes, a raspberry bar, and a peach mini crumble/tart? The cupcakes were mediocre (hence the 4 star rating), but the raspberry and peach...SO GOOD. Their crusts were so flaky and I've never eaten something so good. We're going back in 2 days to get the same thing.

The black and white cupcake was amazing. The frosting was phenomenal. It wasn't too sweet and wasn't loaded with frosting. Just a good dose of chocolate complimented with some sort of coffee flavor yumminess. The service was great too! And you get a lavender cookie with any order of coffee. Will have to go back and try to coffee.

This was a cute little place. I ordered their chocolate bread pudding, bacon ginger cookie, a chocolate glazed donut, & iced chai latte. The chocolate bread pudding was amazing. I loved every bite of it. It wasn't overwhelmingly sweet, but was just decadent. I didn't like the bacon ginger cookie very much. I think there was too much bacon in it. Anytime bacon is added to a dish or a dessert it can overpower the other flavors and I think they put too much of it. I probably would have enjoyed it better if I could taste the ginger. My cousin had the donut and she said she liked it. The iced chai latte I ordered was nice. It wasn't too milky or too watered down, just perfect. The atmosphere was nice. The little cafe was a little tight where the bathroom door opens up into the area where you would order and look at goods in the glass window, but it was very well decorated and cute.

This is my second visit at this place. I somehow felt that I was biased when I was doing my first review. So I came here again trying to be fair. However, it's still a little bit disappointed. Location: it's between cocoa cinnamon and YMCA in Durham. Pretty good place because there are parking space for customers to park and people can choose to stay longer in order to enjoy the food. Bakery: I had hand pie and lemon almond tart to go. The hand pie is made very soft and there was a very thin layer of some sweets in the middle. I am not a fan of the hand pie. I prefer a little crunchiness of the crust and I wish the sweet could be more moistured. And the pie gives a sense of blandness. Almond tart has the same issue. I am sorry but I am not a fan Price: judging by the quality of the bakery, I would say this place is overpriced Overall, three star for sure. I looked through their website and got a sense that their main focus is breakfast. But they do not have much choices of breakfast. I am not thrilled by this place.

Daisy cakes was a perfect stop after farmers market fun. I had excellent coffee in a huge mug, a peach and strawberry hand pie (think fancy homemade pop tart), and complimentary cucumber water - a nice touch. The only disappointment was that my husband didn't have a low carb option except for the tofu scramble that really wasn't his jam. It's a cozy spot but they use the space well to fit in a surprising amount of seating. I'll be back to try their cakes and sandwiches (and when my husband is eating bread again!)

Cute place for brunch! Parking is street parking--not too bad for a Saturday morning, especially given that it's right next to the food trucks ad the Farmer's Market. I came here today to meet up with friends--as other reviews mentioned, it is small/cozy. I was relieved that the line was short, and I didn't have to plan an elaborate way to secure a table, because there were several available tables. I ordered the tofu scramble from the menu at the front counter and my friends ordered a few pastries including the egg in the middle of a biscuit, a dessert tart, and vanilla latte. The staff accidentally made an extra regular latte and gave it away to me, which was a pleasant surprise. Our food arrived quickly--my tofu scramble was delicious and came with potato hash, seared brussel sprouts, served with 2 pieces of toast. I did have to add quite a bit of salt though because it wasn't as spicy/flavorful as I would have liked. The latte with a drizzle of honey was creamy and perfect for the drizzly Saturday morning. I'll be back to try the desserts next time!

I've been to Daisy Cakes several times and love their creativity for desserts. The gluten free cupcakes are excellent and it's very difficult to tell the difference from their gluten version. The owners are closing their shop. They have realized that desserts are their forte, not the breakfast and lunch items they've had to place on the menu to keep the operation viable. I would go as far as to say that all of the non-dessert items I've tried have been mediocre at best. The owner will be opening up a strictly dessert spot for pre- or post-theater night out. I have really enjoyed this spot for the cupcakes, cookies (the bacon ginger cookie will be missed!) and other sweets. Looking forward to what's in store next!

Amazing! This eatery feels like you walked into a little world of yummy cuteness. The minute my girlfriend and I walked in, I loved the modern industrial look with a giant white brick wall, the clean well presented dessert bar and the big chalk board in the back with the food options. I had the BLTA sandwich which was delicious and a really good size. Next time I have to get dessert, they look really good! The staff was friendly, and I appreciate that even when the line got long, a staff member went to each customer to take their order in advance - helped things go faster. The restaurant is a little small with limited seating, and the food is a bit pricey, but the quality of the dining experience makes up for it. I recommend it to people looking to try something new :)

I couldn't believe it was gluten free!! They have so many gluten free baked goods, it was almost impossible to decide what to get. I ended up getting a scone and a raspberry almond bar. Both were great! Prices were a little high, but pretty typical for gf items.

  • Christina C.

I LOVE Daisycakes!! It's a hidden gem. Cute atmosphere, friendly staff, and right next to the farmers market! I have only been there for brunch but everything I've had so far as been delicious. I've also tried a variety of their gluten free baked goods which are so tasty! They even have gluten free biscuits and bread for sandwiches! I'm impressed with how good the gluten free stuff tastes and you can't tell a big difference from the non-gf stuff (or so my non-gf husband claims). Being celiac in the south, I'm glad I have somewhere to eat biscuits :) My only gripe is that I wish they would expand their restaurant so there are more tables to sit at!

I have been there only for breakfast or coffee/desert... Carnitas Hash with Chilies and two eggs- my favorite.. Almond brioche and cupcakes are very good.. More expensive than other cafe breakfast places.. so, four starts..

Cashier was rude and acted like she was doing me a favor when I ordered a wrap that they don't typically make during brunch. The other server was very polite and accommodating. Food is overpriced and nothing special compared to other nearby restaurants with similar eats.

Went for lunch and ordered the Nested Egg in Brioche. My wife ordered the BLTA. Mine arrived and I took a bite of a cold egg. I went back to counter and let them know it was cold. Meanwhile, my wife finished her sandwich. My dish arrived a second time, took a bite, and COLD again. When something like this happens you realize someone in the kitchen really doesn't give a s... I took my meal back and told them it still was cold and I no longer wanted it. Asked for manager and counter person told me she was cooking. Really? So I waited...she was apologetic, saying I was offered another meal free of cost. I told her that is not what was conveyed to me. My advice...there are better options around that care about your experience. I will not return.

I had a really good French minty macaroon here. It was my first macaroon and I loved it! We stopped here on our road trip because this shop was on Man vs Food and it looked really eclectic and cool!

Picked up a Ginger Snap (snap) Bacon Cookie and Almond Brioche (like French Toast Pastry)! Falling in LOVE is easy here! On the Edge of the Durhams Farmers Market (Central Park) the exterior is unassuming, walk inside and be ahmazed : First it is Soooo Romantic, whether you are with a Male Friend, Boyfriend, Spouse or by yourself...Long Skinny Cafe like a Wide, then Narrowing Hallway it is COZY...Then as you are in line to order you get more treats after Treats for your Eyes as you pass each Beautifully Presented Bakery display Case Delicious Chocolate Filled Pastry was NOT Heavy, my Bride thought it was Good, I did not enjoy it as much as the other food! Breakfast in Broville two weeks in a row!

Cute little place with extremely nice staff. Ordered a selection of sandwiches to go, and picked up a few treats to share. Sandwiches were alright: multigrain bread was very good, decent fillings, but nothing spectacular. They came with either a bit of pasta salad (bland) or fruit (with the pb+j and veggie options). Now who doesn't love sugar + butter?! The cookies were a hit among the entire group, so I suppose we now know where the love comes in. Take home message? Skip lunch and just eat dessert. Life is too short anyway :-)

THE COOKIES. Specifically, the chocolate chip cookies. Crunchy, chewy, decadent, home-baked deliciousness. Even the gluten-free ones are amazing, because they taste just like the glutinous cookies. DaisyCakes is my Durham go-to for cookies. I just wished they stayed open past 4pm so I could stop by after work.

Adorable, small (emphasis on the small) cafe and bakery in the Central Park district. In hindsight, walking from Duke's campus was a mistake; definitely passed through a somewhat sketchy neighborhood. However, the cafe itself was brightly lit and crowded given it was an early Saturday morning. There are some tables as well as a bar like area facing the wall, though I had to wait for some time to find a good seat. Decided to try the homemade granola, the Carnitas breakfast sandwich, and the seasonal pumpkin cupcake. The sandwich was very filling, with the meat and potatoes really rounding out the sandwich in terms of the solidness of the food. The cupcake was also very nice; in general fans of dessert will love it here. The staff are very friendly and the cashier was happy to give me her recommendations because it was my first time. Very cute spot for sure, and a fun spot for brunch with a few friends.

  • Naomi K.

Cute little spot- much nicer then just a food truck. It's tight in there, but good counter space. You order over the dessert case and then stand at the register to pay your ticket. The line forms in front of the refrigerator case that blows hot air at your feet- probably feels great in the winter but not such much in the summer. There were some technically difficulties with the order in front of me, so it was a little slow. Maybe the guy ringing up your order shouldn't also be responsible for your drink order too. Everyone was friendly and trying to move the line along. Anyhow, definitely get a the pop 'art! IT was very delicious. And make sure they warm it up!

Love, love love this place! We passed by this place on our road trip as it was featured on Man v. Food and so glad we went! Totally worth it, even from a sweets snob like me who is used to getting my pick of pastries and cakes from great bakeries in NYC. We had the chocolate caramel tart, the bread pudding (best bread pudding I have ever had) and the maple bacon cupcake that tastes like a pancake. So delicious. Prices are reasonable and the staff is super friendly. I had mentioned I was moving from NY and the cashier lived around the area I was in and was so sweet! If I am ever back in the area, I will definitely be back.

On two occasions, my partner and I ordered cakes from this bakery. On neither occasion did they let us down. Their cakes are amazing and had our guests raving at how delicious they were. Their presentation was also incredible. We will not order our cakes from anywhere else. Tip: If you are a chocolate lover, get the chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream frosting and chocolate ganache filling. You won't be disappointed. As an aside, they also offer a small cafe where you can order from a variety of other baked goods and coffee. I have not sampled any of this, so I cannot comment, but I definitely plan on visiting again soon just for to try a few things.

DaisyCakes is rockin'. I think this is one of the best lunch spots in Durham. All of their sandwiches are excellent. I frequently order a bowl of soup and a grilled cheese, then sit back and enjoy a slice of heaven. The staff are friendly, the food is amazing. It is a bit expensive, but it is well worth paying a bit extra for much better food. I'd say I average eating lunch here a bit over once per week. They never disappoint. Really the only downside is that there isn't a lot of seating at the restaurant, though I've never been unable to get a seat/table. Their deserts and pastries are excellent, and they have what seems to be a good array of gluten-free deserts.

Came for the LivingSocial, stayed for the surprise treat of a breakfast. Thanks to LS for getting me in the door of DaisyCakes brick & mortar. I had written them off based on what I felt were lackluster cupcakes from their mobile operation. But let me say unequivocally: give them a try! First two things that struck me at my breakfast were: (1) how appealing their menu was, and (2) how reasonable the prices were. After ordering, I sat down and read an issue of Durham Magazine from their rack. A very sweet employee brought my food to me along with a dynamite honey&vanilla latte. Fritatta? Pretty good. Raspberry Pop't Art? Get it BUT you need to get it heated! With the buttery pastry crust, it really is like a gourmet Pop Tart and was the perfect topper to my meal. I'm still a diehard Cupcake Bar fan for sweet cuppin' cakes, but give credit where credit is due: DaisyCakes comes to play and their worth your attention.

I tasted a heck of a lot of cupcakes for my wedding, and my husband and I decided that DaisyCakes was the winner. This was back in 2011, before they opened up their brick and mortar location. My ideal cupcake has cake with a light, moist crumb and icing that isn't overly sweet or stodgy, and DaisyCakes totally hit the mark. We chose to get 40 cupcakes each of the chocolate cupcakes with raspberry buttercream, coconut cupcake with almond buttercream, and spice cupcake with chai buttercream. Tanya delivered the cupcakes on the day of the wedding in Chapel Hill, stand included. The pricing was certainly reasonable compared to the other places we considered ($2.50 per cupcake was the base price before adding the decoration). Throughout the process, Tanya was cheerful and responsive, which is exactly what you want when you're planning a wedding. I asked if she could decorate the cupcakes with a double happiness (shuangxi ) character and she immediately had an idea about how to best accomplish that. The photo attached is of one of the cupcakes at our wedding. Thank you, DaisyCakes, for doing a great job!

In my opinion, this is hands down the best place to get espresso-based coffee drinks in the entire Triangle area. Believe me, I've tried them all looking for the best. Even the cafes in Chapel Hill who get rave reviews (and shall remain nameless) often produce watery, tasteless lattes, plus you have to deal with the haughty staff attitudes. Daisy Cakes has it all for me - friendly staff, the best coffee, as well as a cute store design and really good baked items - I always have some bread-type item for breakfast, like a banana bread and its always awesome. I've chatted to Sara that works there and she told me the staff are all rigorously trained in coffee making, including an entire class on Milk Chemistry. You can really tell the staff here know exactly what they're doing when they make you a latte or cappucino. I'm originally from Australia, and this place really reminds me of the very high quality cafes you get all over Sydney - fantastic coffee, a modern, relaxing atmosphere and stellar food. I've been meaning to write a review of Daisy Cakes for a long time now and I'm glad I'm finally able to let people know just how great it is!

I wanted to pick some dessert up for my sister who was in town this week and DaisyCakes was on my way home. It is a cute little shop in downtown Durham and I was excited to try it for the first time. I was disappointed with the selection of cupcakes offered. I was exciting a few of the unique flavors I saw online but they only had the normal ones available. The following was what I tasted: Red Velvet Cupcake: It was on the dry side and I have had better. Double Chocolate: Not bad but was also dry Chocolate Chip Cookie: Was expecting it to be a little softer Truffle Brownie: It was my favorite item. Tasty and fudgy Overall not very impressed. Also, was not offered a receipt. Not that I would need it but standard practice it to give a receipt.

The best hot chocolate that I have ever had. When my friend and I met her for a working breakfast meeting, I remarked how there were no pictures of the food on Yelp. Now I know why. The food is so good there is no time to photograph the food when you should be stuffing your face with it. I was no exception. Everything was delicious and I cannot wait to go back for breakfast.

OMG, what can I say........ Dessert heaven, yes it is pricier than going to Kroger's but well worth it, the 1st bite of a cupcake was pure heaven, didn't help because I had to eat a second.lol

"Great new sweet bakery shop in Durham!" The downtown Durham area is truly booming and becoming a "destination" for the broader area. This new bakery offering is immediately adjacent to the Piedmont and very close to the Farmers Market. The Daisy Cakes food truck is well known, but I appreciate having a brick & mortar place with known location and indoor seating, especially on cool or rainy days. It is reminiscent of Scratch (as Christina G notes), though much brighter inside. The store offers a broad selection of sweets, ranging from cupcakes (duh!) to bread pudding, coffee cake, scones, etc. They regularly have samples of a few of the sweets out to try. What I especially liked seeing was also some savory sandwich options (see menu picture). There's not a ton of seating, but it's comfortable, and there's a pitcher of water for people to help themselves. I promise I'm not stalking Christina G, but I did happen to go there the same day as her for lunch (though we didn't overlap). I even ordered the same sandwich: the fennel, leeks, pepper & pepperjack cheese sandwich-- very flavorful, though more "wet" than I would have anticipated, making for a bit of a (delicious) mess to eat. I thought the price ($7) was a tiny bit high for a single sandwich with a very small helping of vegetables, but the quality was very high so I didn't mind. Returned the next day to try the sweets with my kids. The coffee cake was outstanding (flavorful & sweet without being "straight sugar") and extraordinarily cheap-- huge helping for under $2. My son had the cinnamon roll and devoured it in seconds. Customer service was both prompt and helpful in each visit. Overall, this is an outstanding new offering in town. I'm at the 4-5 star border on this one...

I'm not so much into the whole cupcake scene, so decided to try some cake. It's really very, very good. I had the cranberry upside down cake and it was delish! The cranberries were tart, the cake was perfectly moist and at the back part of the cake were walnuts. Kind of wish there were some in the cake, but it was a nice treat at the very end. My partner had the pumpkin pudding cake and it was wonderful too. Again, very moist, lots of pumpkin (real pumpkin, not canned) and snuck in here and there were tiny (the tinyest I've ever seen) golden raisins. She's not fond of raisins, so it's a good thing they had little to no taste. It's a tiny place so when it's crowded, which is was for part of the time, it's tight. It's bright and cheery and there's a wonderful large picture of their airstream on one wall (seems like just yesterday they were selling their tasty treats out of it). Very friendly staff and got to talk with the owner too, who is very nice and willing to take time to chat w/customers. Oh yes, I noticed a wonderful quote on the wall when I was paying...check it out.....

Wonderful bakery right near the farmer's market in Durham. I have sampled the bread pudding, cupcakes, hand pies and cookies. The hand pies and bread puddings are to die for. Fresh, seasonal ingredients with innovative combinations. I have seen others order breakfast sandwiches and speak highly of the grits. I also enjoyed my mint iced tea, it tasted like fresh mint. Staff is very friendly and service is prompt. Daisy cakes is delicious, just make sure you get there while it's open.

DaisyCakes always has something delicious and different that is gluten free. Wish I could go more often. Love this place! The space is small, so be prepared to wait a little at prime times on the weekend.

Good... but over-priced. Their sandwiches are good but 8 bucks for a turkey sandwich without chips? Come on. This place serves its purpose as a pastry shop- but I'd love to try their other menu options. Good place for a work lunch- just go before or after busy lunch hour, because it's small in there. Oh and I think it's really tacky to have a suggested tip on screen when you sign when using a credit card. Tsk. Your food is expensive enough, I should expect your employees are getting paid decent.

This is the tastiest place I know. Cupcakes, desserts, sweets, morsels, munchies, it's all here. Fresh and delectable delights are sure to please anyone. And if you're feeling crumby or simply a crumb bum, prescribe yourself a taste of the good life.

Bought a living social deal to this place way back and needed a free moment to take advantage! Came in around 9:30AM and there were a few people sitting in the adorable front space. I took a look at the beautiful pastry selections (probably not the best idea to wait until I was starving to come in...). I had been studying the online menu and knew what I wanted: DC breakfast wrap, tofu scramble, popt'art, and ginger bacon cookie. The service was super friendly, very little wait. I took everything to go and was haunted by the delicious smell, making a normally short 10 minute drive feel like forever! I immediately tried the tofu scramble. DEFINITELY AWARD WINNING. The curry spice was just right as well as the potato, vegan mozz, herbs, tofu. I also tried the wrap, which was good but not as good as the scramble. The popt'art was strawberry and definitely reminded me of it's namesake, but obviously better. The ginger bacon cookie was a monster of sweet, slight ginger, slight maple, and bacon. The center is still soft while the edges are crisp. The best part is I still have leftovers for all four items to look forward to later this week. :)

This place is a gem for someone is gluten free. Multiple gluten free options every day, and everything I've tried has been DELICIOUS. I'd imagine their regular stuff must be just as good if not better! French macarons, raspberry almond bar, cookies... and holy moly, I got to have a biscuit for the first time in 2 years! I recommend it all.

  • Rose L.

The cupcakes are delicious, they had an awesome livingsocial deal which was a steal and I tried the lunch sandwiches which were very good. We tried the grilled veggie which had beets and goat cheese--not a lot of sandwich but very tasty. I tried the turkey sandwich and it was like the day after Thanksgiving sandwich but much better--spicy mustard and wonderful thick turkey. Make sure you ask for fruit sides, we had a little salad which was fine and the noodle salad is nothing special. The fresh fruit looked the best and you get a lot. The lemon tart is delicious. Only quam is that it's very small space or don't go during lunch time if you need to get in and get our--you won't have a seat. They also have very tasty latte and if you sign up on their website you get a free cupcake on your first visit. Yum!

I tried DaisyCakes for the first time last week and it has been a long time coming as I have followed Tanya's career and baking for years. She is an AMAZING pastry chef. I am so happy to have made the trek from Chapel Hill to sample her delicious wares. We had the quiche, broccoli soup, a grilled cheese, and of course I had to get a scone and hand pie. HOLY COW!! The meal was absolutely lovely and we ate every last bite...and then came dessert. Oh, dessert, sweet dessert, how we loved thee! I had one of the best scones in my life and let me tell you, I get a scone where ever and whenever they are offered. These scones were perfection on a plate and of course now writing about it my mouth is watering and I am craving one. The hand pie was something I wish was always in my hand, both hands actually! My daughter and I shared everything and with each bite our eyes would open wide with amazement at how heavenly it all was. I cannot wait to return and try all the other delicious goodies DaisyCakes has to offer! Thank you, Tanya, for producing such a wonderful product and sharing your talents with us all!

Walking around Central Park I looked up to see unexpectedly bright colors in front of me, and couldn't turn away. A little cramped inside, but once you get to the counter it's all worth it. Cookies, macaroons, cupcakes, small cakes, delicious pastries galore. I went with the bacon gingersnap cookie, and I was definitely pleased with it (the ginger overpowers, but when you get one of the awesomely big pieces of bacon in a bite... yummmm). I loved the look inside, but instead took a seat in the garden of eatin' not too far over. Definitely a nice little surprise in the area, and super friendly staff!

Not sure what all the hype is about (maybe other reviews were posted by their friends?). Small, simple, nothing fantastic, overpriced. Do yourself a favor and go down the street to Whole Foods, or the nearest Harris Teeter and you'll get a better cupcake at a better price. Plus, the reviews must have gone to their heads because their customer service is zilch.

Tried several cupcakes from this shop. The cake part is good, not dry but not overly moist. The chocolate cake is nice and fudgy. However I did not like the buttercream. Its a meringue buttercream(and I am familiar with that kind) however it tasted too fatty and the taste was more like shortening instead of butter. Even the chocolate buttercream had a shortening taste to it. I enjoy swiss and italian meringue buttercreams but this one was not good.

The other reviews have hit it right with comments on cupcakes and other bakery items--they're great. But folks so are the sandwiches! There else can you get a fennel sandwich? And you don't have to be a vegan to enjoy it. Fabulous!

We asked the owner of DaisyCakes if she would make us a special request for a special occasion - Grand Marnier soufflés. Tanya came through in style, providing us ready-to-cook chocolate soufflés with a crème anglaise sauce that were delicious - a rich dark chocolate taste in a light soufflé with the vanilla-flavored topping (actually, you can sink it into the center and get it in every bite). All who partook were very appreciative! We also had her red velvet cupcakes with a topping that had a wonderful cream cheese taste, and a "red-eye" coffee that was pronounced "smooth" by it's drinker (as well as invigorating, since it had 2 shots of espresso). Many thanks, Tanya!

Although DaisyCakes seems to be known as a cupcake place, I have to say that the cupcakes were my least favorite sampled item from their menu. I have been spoiled by the incredible cupcake places in Nashville and Hoboken, so my cupcake standard is very high. I tried DaisyCakes' red velvet version, which was passably good but not memorable or great. Cake a bit dry, frosting not tangy enough. Sweet bakery (in Hoboken) makes a spectacular red velvet cupcake which far outshines it. Nonetheless I've gone back to try several other items at DaisyCakes, in part because I love the staff. They're so cheerful and earnest, without the stank attitude that I got from those working at Scratch bakery (who acted like it was my privilege to have them scowl at me). I also like the bright, happy colors of the decor. There are a few individual tables and a bar with chairs, but it's a very small place. On Saturday mornings it fills quickly, so be prepared to get your food/drink and go elsewhere (or just sit outside if the weather cooperates). So, my favorite items? Easily the pop t'art and the almond cream brioche. The apricot almond pop t'art was the most delicious baked good I'd eaten in a very long time...the rich buttery almond cookie, once bitten, oozed a sweet (but not too sweet) apricot filling; the components melted in my mouth and stimulated all my happy nerve impulses so that I nearly floated away in bliss. The almond cream brioche is a slice of fluffy moist almond-speckled bread which similarly melted in my mouth with a beautiful texture and creamy sweetness. I've also tasted the cinnamon roll which was good but like the cupcake, not memorable. I wanted to give a savory item a try, so I recently ordered a breakfast sandwich with fried egg, bacon, greens, and ciabatta bread. While it was enormous, I managed to stuff it into my mouth, and was happy with what happened next. The ingredients were obviously fresh and local (the crispy bacon was a wonder) and the bread was spongy fantastic. I also appreciate that they brew counter culture coffee (my favorite). However, When I asked for cream with my coffee, they were caught a bit off guard (they didn't have servers of cream or milk readily available with all the other coffee items) but eventually we find a solution (they grab a carton of milk from their fridge, or I take it out black and get milk from home). Since they're opened recently and are still working out the quirks, I'm sure this will be fixed with time. Don't come for the cupcakes alone; get the pop t'art. You'll thank me later. (Well, your tongue will, if not your scale.) Edit 1/19/12: Their sandwiches are incredible, especially the fennel-leek-pepper-pepperjack and the turkey-bacon-avocado. Their French hot chocolate is also spectacular... thick, creamy, almost as dense as the famous hot chocolate at the Angelina cafe in Paris. In addition to the French-style chocolate, they add a different flavored version each week (Mexican chocolate, lavendar, coconut rum). They also place a house-made marshmallow on top of their hot chocolate, which melts into gooey heaven (I included a photo to make you drool). I am freakishly obsessed with this hot chocolate and its melted marshmallow, and think about it almost as much as I think about how nice it would be to have world peace.

I'll start this review off by saying that my first experience with Daisy Cakes involved me shoving a strawberry cupcake with almond buttercream down my throat as fast as possible before running away from the scene of the crime with frosting on my nose. Yes, my first Daisy Cakes cupcake was consumed during Durham's annual Doughman race. It's a tragedy, though, that I had to cram this cupcake into my mouth at such a speed, because even though I was rushing, I knew my palate was receiving special treatment. I could NOT have asked for a smoother dessert to fill my gullet. While the cupcake itself was moist and flavorful with a light but authentic strawberry taste, the almond buttercream, IMHO, was the star of the show. It was creamy, it was almondy, and it was sweet without being saccharine. Lucky for some of my friends and the spectators, Daisy Cakes was passing out mini versions of this treat to recreate the experience. I could eat this cupcake every day (though preferably not before a sprint.) Can't wait to go back and try one at a leisurely pace...

I beat the grand opening crowd by swinging in here right after gym class, at 11am. I had to feel like a greasy track-suit-wearing bum for a minute, but it was worth it! DaisyCakes has grown up their Farmers Market and food truck cupcake business into a full-scale brick-and-mortar bakery and cafe. And I couldn't be happier! The space and offerings remind me of Scratch. The brick walls inside are painted white; there's a bar that runs along the left wall and a few tables on the right. Lots of pastries on offer, as well as the trademark cupcakes, beautifully displayed in the bakery case. The sandwiches are creative, and I was instantly inspired by the fact that two vegetarian options piqued my interest more than the meaty sammies. Consider, if you will: beet, lemon confit, and goat chese tartine. I ordered the fennel, leeks, pepper & pepperjack cheese sandwich. It came with a side of pickled veggies, on a plate sprinkled with pomegranate -- which added color and pizzazz. And it was delightful. I am a big fan of Sandwhich in Chapel Hill, and this meal measured up with their best menu items. Which has me really excited to return! The latte I ordered was blended more like a cappuccino -- lots of froth. But they use Counter Culture Coffee, so it's all good! I opted on two cupcakes to go. Meant to split them with Phil. But... oops... the apple caramel wasn't overly sweet. I could really taste the apple in the cake, and appreciated the subtle icing drizzled with caramel. The pumpkin spice cupcake, however, was quite dry, and I thought the large dollop cream cheese frosting overwhelmed the cake. Maybe I'd have better luck with more traditional flavors. I'm willing to try (you're twisting my arm to eat more cupcakes! ;) because ever since Bliss shut down, I haven't found another holy grail cupcake shop!

Thank you, DaisyCakes, for all of your wonderful gluten free offerings! So amazing for those of us that can't eat the regular baked goods. Gluten free people, take note! Southern style biscuits and bread pudding on offer here in addition to cupcakes, cookies, tarts, and other bar-type cookies. The cookies have been a hit and miss, but the tarts, biscuits, and bread pudding never fail to satisfy and make me wonder if I might have accidentally been given the regular gluten-ed goods, because they're so spot-on in texture, moisture, and flavor. Highly recommended. Delicious egg breakfasts, and solid coffee too!

So I have tried Daisy Cakes a total of four times. The third time I was all "I'm so writing a 5 star review of this place" and then I had them once more to which I said "that was not quite a 5 star cupcake". My first 2 cupcakes were like 2 star cupcakes. So I've arrived at 3 stars. I have to say though, it may just be a fresh cupcake versus one that has been on the counter until mid-afternoon. My lovely and talented co-worker Alysia Angel brought some Election 2012 Victory Cupcakes in to work early on November 7th. Those blew me away. So fresh and moist and perfectly balanced flavor/buttercream/cake stuff happening. I wish that was my experience every time, but alas, they have tended to be dry and a little less flavorful when I've had them other times. Just a little dry and a tiny bit less flavorful, but still. Maybe everything just tastes better when you are celebrating an Obama win.

I went here with a friend who was considering having Daisy Cakes cater her wedding (cupcakes only). The people were very nice and the desserts looked awesome (including free small treats for dogs up front). The Bride wanted accessible cupcakes, so we tried the chocolate, vanilla, and red velvet. I found the cupcakes to be a sweet reprieve from the sugar-laden, ice-cream-scoop-of-buttercream-frosting stomach bombs that are popular now. The cake itself was well balanced and not overly sweet and the frosting was not heaped on top like a bad hairdo. They paired the frosting type with the cupcake, so the red velvet had a cream cheese frosting - and none of the frostings were overly sweet or filled with shortening so that they could be piled on and sit for hours at a stretch. Now if they only had a vegan option ..... And the bride did choose Daisy Cakes!

I love love love this super cute place! People are always friendly and not only do they have amazingly delicious treats and coffee, their sandwiches are also yummy! I've never been to a place that actually asks me how sweet I like my latte... thank you Daisy Cakes! Also.. SO glad they are open on Mondays now. =) You'd be a fool not to go here.

My favorite vegan breakfast in Durham. I swear I could eat the tofu scramble every single day. Also, whenever I go I can't resist getting a pastry (they have different pop tarts every day - the pineapple ginger was amazing but, ahh, so was the cherry), and a fancy coffee which also comes with a little treat. There is not very much seating, but that is never an issue for me since I am usually there early in the morning when they open, and 8 am on a Saturday is a pretty good time to be assured no wait. They also have a bit of outdoor seating, which is good when it's nicer out. The jam they have for the biscuits is great - try the sour cherry! - and all the employees are very friendly and helpful and fast.

I've tried DaisyCakes deserts twice - once thanks to their free cupcake promo if you join their mailing list and once with a Living Social deal. The Vanilla cupcake was so soft and yummy but what really blew me away was the bread and butter pudding! Oh my god. It was warm, had just the right amount of spice and paired with some wonderful cream. Their lunch and breakfast options are pretty amazing too.My husband had the Carnitas and hash and it was super flavourful. We had the spicy option and that was very very good. I had the turkey bacon avocado sandwich and that was very good. The filings were perfectly paired and the bread was toasted a little which I loved. I will definitely be back! I just wished that they opened on Sundays so that I could grab brunch there.

If part of the reason you go to a local bakery is an expectation of customer care go elsewhere. The employees value a white females order of wedding cake $$ then an black males breakfast. I guess the current racial culture of Durham is permeating not just a hostile bureaucracy but gluten-free pastry as well.

Probably the best breakfast sandwich in the history of breakfast sandwiches. And the Americano was amazing!

I was super duper bummed. I was hoping for a nice cupcake with beautiful buttercream, but that's not what I got. What I got was a kind of dry vanilla cupcake which I could maybe forgive if it weren't for the bland marshmallow fluff-esque mess on top. It was just barely better than Cool Whip. I'd consider going back maybe just to try the candied bacon and maple. But I don't know if I'd go out of my way to make a stop at this shop. I expected more from a business that started off as a food truck and got community support to establish a storefront. If I gave money to that Kickstarter (was there a Kickstarter??), I'd be tempted to ask for my money back!

Daisy Cakes is a cute name for a cute place (please forgive me for saying that). It's a nice cozy restaurant and the staff was very friendly. My wife had been before and had raved about the vegetarian sandwich that she ordered so I was convinced to try it. The sandwich had fennel, leeks, pepper & pepperjack cheese. There were a lot of flavors and I could hardly tell there was no meat. There was a little side salad that was simple but still good. I also tried the beet open-face sandwich that my wife ordered but I didn't like this as much (my wife says I'm wrong). NOTE: I haven't tried the desserts but the presentation was good. As a techie, this cafe gets extra points for using an iPad as a Point of Sale device. It pivots and lets you sign the screen after using your credit card.

Saturday brunch equals tight squeeze. Business is good here. To be honest I haven't had the pleasure of trying Daisy Cakes when it was at the Farmer's Market and when it opened I assumed it was just another bakery. Don't get me wrong I like sweets and all but I didn't need another "sweets place". Last weekend after my Farmer's Market shopping I finally decided to walk in...I noticed people eating omelets. So I decided to try it today. Daisy Cakes is such a quaint little place to have brunch...I mean it's the cutest!!! I was feeling like an omelette today and got the spinach and mushroom omelette. It was pretty good. Delicious actually. My seasonal omelette came with diced potatoes regular russet (i guess) and sweet potato and toast. I have never considered mixing russet potatoes with sweet potatoes...how clever. At any rate there was free wi-fi so I decided to use it with my new, or should I say very first iPhone! Yay me...(welcome to the 21st century eyy?) LOL. I can't wait for future visits. I think they have already outgrown their space! Quick anecdote. When eating alone I usually bring a book to read. Also when trying a brunch place for the first time I usually try the french toast first...this is how I judge culinary skill and creativity...(please don't ask why). So I brought this Christian dating book along called "Girl Meets Boy"...there was this guy and girlfriend who came to sit next to me...they were making out the whole time! Here I am, trying to better myself so that I can get a guy and keep him!...and they are kissing loudly beside me...Also I know the guy saw my book...I caught him reading the title while I was getting napkins. LOL. I'm trying to eat and read...and they are showing off! I have to admit...I was a little bitter. LOL...I almost interrupted and asked since they're not eating their beautiful prepared quiches if I could take a picture of them. I needed something sweet to pamper my mild depression after hearing them smack for 20 odd minutes! So I went and got a french toast bread pudding from the BoxCarr Farms Food Truck and listened to Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me in my car. Happy again!

I always looked forward to seeing DaisyCakes at the farmers market and food truck rodeos, so I was thrilled when they finally opened their brick-and-mortar. The cafe does not disappoint. Its a super cute space that just screams HAPPY. Whether it's happy birthday, happy valentines day, or happy saturday, I am always looking for an excuse to make the trek from Chapel Hill. So should you.

Really nice, cozy atmosphere, great customer service. The food came out promptly. We visited just after the lunch rush. The food was very nicely presented and absolutely delicious. The coffees were also great. I would definitely come again.

I love Daisy Cakes so SO much and now I can have their delicious baked goods on a weekday! This morning I stopped in to pick up some cupcakes for my labmates and breakfast treats for myself. They weren't making sandwiches yet when I stopped in this morning but they did have some small quiches and a vegetarian frittata available if you need to pick up an early lunch. I bought myself a pop't art (my favorite DaisyCakes confection) and a large coffee and a bunch of cupcakes. I also purchased a SLAB of coffeecake, a macaron and this incredible molten chocolate cake to round things out. OMG. Get the molten chocolate cake people. It was fluffy and rich all at once and I can't even imagine how good it would be slightly warmed up... As for the sandwiches, well, I will be back!

Had a gooey, lovely, decadent cinnamon roll and a delicious decaf coffee, which isn't easy to find. The sitting area isn't large, but I was able to use the wifi and get some work done. Will definitely be coming back to try other pastries and their savory sandwiches.

I'm in search of the perfect cupcake in Durham, considering price and taste as my two main critiquing factors. Beyu Cafe serves cupcakes that are moist and delicious but they cost $4-$5 each. That's excessive for the typical graduate student's budget. Hoping to find a cupcake with the same quality, but cheaper price than Beyu, I recently ordered a few cupcakes from Daisy Cakes. Thank God it was only a few; if I had ordered the usual dozen I would have been pissed!!! They were not good at all! I recently began enjoying cupcakes on a trip to New Orleans where I tried the infamous New Orleans wedding cake cupcake. It was absolute heaven! Of course I'm not expecting to experience that same flavor in North Carolina, but there are a few basic necessities for every delectable cupcake such as moistness and flavor. I ordered the vanilla cupcake with vanilla icing and was sorely disappointed. It was dry and the icing had too much fat in it. Not sure if they use butter or shortening, but it was overkill. I'm really wondering if their cupcakes are really just that bad or if I went on an off day. Then I remember no one uses that much grease in a cupcake. After the first bite, it was reminiscent of an over-baked box cake gone wrong. Disappointed and will not be returning. I really wanted to try the pumpkin cupcake, but I can't waste my money. I agree with the other reviewer-grocery store cupcakes are definitely better..... Still searching for a great, inexpensive cupcake and willing to spend up to $3. Recommendations would be appreciated. P.S. I tried Mad Hater's the next day. Can you believe their cupcakes were even worse; however, the raspberry cream cheese icing was to die for!

Amazing coffee, and my favorite is the ever changing handmade pop tarts. Best of all time was the basil blueberry.

I have to add a disclaimer here that the last (and only) time I got cupcakes from here was in July and it was the result of a living social or groupon deal. Maybe that's why the quality sucked! They were incredibly dry and unlike another cupcake shop I've reviewed, the frosting tasted like sugary lard. Icky! I may give them another try and assume the first time was a fluke but all in all they were pretty bad.

So, right, I've had a chance to sample some more of their cupcakes from my original half a dozen. The pumpkin spiced was delicious, and so were the chocolate ones. I'm rounding up to four stars.

Tried with the kids. The red velvet cupcake had a good tasting cream cheese frosting however it was too dense for the kids and the cake had a "bitterness" from the flavoring/coloring. This same bitterness was apparent in the Macaroon that I sampled. The after taste lasted well after the macaroon was finished. I also had a whoopie pie, great tasting chocolate cookies with an light creamy filling. I'm giving it two stars because two misses and one hit would probably make me go again but not rushing.

I ordered the chocolate ganache cake for 20 people for a graduation party. Everything went smoothly with the ordering and picking up but I was pretty disappointed with the cake itself. First, it seemed quite small for 20 people, but that turned out not to be an issue because I don't think people liked it very much and no one came back for more. The cake was barely and very poorly decorated - just iced and the writing of the phrase I had chosen across the top and nothing else except for some sprinkling of white powder along the edges. I thought when they offered to incorporate certain colors (in this case, school colors for graduation), there would be a little more to it. I have no experience decorating cakes and could have done a better job. The cake itself was just okay, just barely sweet and not very moist, but was salvageable by serving with some ice cream. With so many other great options in the area to choose from, I don't think I will be back for a cake. I do hear their breakfasts are delicious, so maybe I will try that instead.

I finally tried DaisyCakes cupcakes today after years of hearing about them.... very disappointing. The chocolate cake was ok, not great, and the vanilla icing tasted like absolutely nothing. Zero flavor. The people who work there are very sweet, though! I really wanted to like these cupcakes. The cinnamon roll was pretty good, but not the best I've ever had.

They have very tasty sweets though their Almond Brioche could be better. My favorite is from the big named Bouchon Bakery. Their best for brunchy type meals if you aren't going for just a snack. The one downside to this place is the extreme lack of seating. People can park in the big lot across the street.

Nom Nom Nom. Daisy Cakes has absolutely delectable sweets in a sweet little shop in Downtown Durham. Tried their Neapolitan Cake, a three layer, buttercream rich cake. They have a great selection of cupcakes, whoopie pies, and other beautiful pastries. Looks like they have a great menu of savory options as well for lunch. Check this place out when you can, it's fantastic!

Popped into the adorable Daisycakes after a workout at the YMCA across the street (!).wanted to try the lunch offerings...decided on the most delish sounding sandwich...hazelnut chocolate spread with caramelized pears on homemade white bread. It was absolutely wonderful, served warm with a side of fresh fruit. Very small inside but cozy...tables outside to enjoy the marvelous counter culture coffee with a good book. Once again, another offbeat dining establishment in our quirky Durham...gotta love this eccentric city!

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Durham! I am giving it 4 rather than 5 stars because i think they have just a little bit of growing pains. There have been a few occasions where it hasn't been as amazing (so if that happens to you still go back, it will be amazing the next time!). Their breakfast wrap is phenomenal, but definitely try a homemade pop tart!
