The food: Do yourself a favor and try a mixture of their tacos YOU WON'T be disappointed. It is good to try new things especially when it comes to your palate! #1 - Duck w/ Mole: This was my first attempt to have anything duck and let me tell you FLAVOR, FLAVOR, FLAVOR - Everyone tries to tell you that when you eat duck it is greasy this is not the case! This was very full of flavor and scrumptious! #2 - Blacken Fish tacos - need i say more! Just awesome #3 - Bangkok Shrimp tacos - DON'T JUDGE I came here to try multiple items...LOL This was spicy and had a little kick but not a lot. The shrimp was very fresh and had just the amount of spice and flavor you would execpt #4 - Chips and Queso - Queso was not spicy enough for my taste, wasn't hot enough (temp) but still not bad. The salsa's you get with this is very tasty however and really enjoyed The place: Seating is a little limited and depending on the time of day you go you will be greeted with a line out the door. Avoid lunch hour by all means! KNOW the TRAIN Schedule or you will be stuck waiting on the train to pass to get to the restaurant. This will only make you hungrier! The limited amount of people allowed in for the order line is annoying as they need to keep the door shut instead of having open all the time. It would be nice if they extended this area to allow more people in but the place isn't large just be aware Customer service is great and they are helpful with choices if you are undecided or have questions about the menu Over all love this place and enjoy coming back again and again!

Classic funky Asheville Al fresco dining on picnic tables, affordable and quick. Don't worry if the line is out the door. Bangkok shrimp taco is the most interesting item you won't find elsewhere and it's my favorite. Steak taco is solid and won't disappoint. Skip the duck mole taco, overpriced (comparatively speaking) and overrated. The chips, salsa and Gazpacho are worth missing too. A local green man is usually on tap.

My husband had a taco with pork belly and Kimchee and one with duck with mole sauce with apples, cranberries and cucumbers. We both loved the duck. I had steak and cheese and a lamb, feta cheese, and Taziki sauce. We both liked the lamb better. We thought the choices of tacos were unique. I would definitely return on my next visit!

We waited half an hour in line to get tacos here and it was worth it because the pork belly taco was one of the best tacos I've ever had. It had a thick slab of pork belly with lettuce and other condiments on it. The pork was juicy and perfectly cut. We also got the Bangkok shrimp, duck, and the tofu tacos were also good and creative. I also loved the outdoor seating. Worth waiting for.

Walking through Asheville for the first time, we walked past White Duck around lunch time and I was fully-committed at first sight. Something about the look of this place told me it was going to be a great choice, and it was right. These ain't your mom's tacos, people....unless your mom is a super rad hippie chef or something. I was in the mood for a steak taco when I walked in but pretty much everything on the menu screamed at me as soon as I got in line. As a self-appointed queso connoisseur, I can proudly say that their queso is top notch - the little jalapeno bits inside are fresh. Yum. My steak & cheese taco was on point, as was my fish taco (pretty sure it was tilapia). There was also a black bean taco that made it to the table. NOTHING about this experience disappointed, including the giant gangsta duck mural in the main dining room. As a side note: there are more tables than there initially appears to be, so don't fret if you walk by the floor-to-ceiling glass storefront and see the whole dining room full. There's another full room of seating, plus some outdoor seats.

Went here today for a late lunch along with every other person within 45 miles of Asheville. I don't really mind waiting in line for food, especially around America's birthday since nothing is more American than standing in lines to stuff your face. Line moves decently fast if you can handle everyone around you complaining about how it doesn't. Staff is pushy as you order but can't blame them for trying to get people through. Seating was plentiful and the food came quickly. I got a fish taco and the Korean beef. Korean was ok, forgettable. The fish was awesome but waaaay filling. You get a huge piece of fish for your money so you really only need to order one. The Bf got the spicy buffalo chicken and loved it. Granted I could put fried chicken on a piece of Melba toast and he'd start salivating but either way, he ate it in about a bite and 1/2 so must have been good. We also got the salsa trio and it was very good though not terribly orginal options. The creamy salsa was a little weird and not too flavorful. All in all, great experience but nothing I need to run back to each time I'm in town.

The Thai chicken taco was a hit, the BBQ pork taco was a miss for me. We also very much enjoyed the Chocolate desert item. I don't think they serve any traditional tacos, just the eclectic variety. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you. They also make margaritas here.

This is our second visit to Asheville from Augusta Ga.. My husband and I had our honeymoon here last May and had such a great time we had to revisit.. We love trying new local places and this one was right up our alley.. I Loved the white duck taco shop.. The ingredients were fresh and delicious! I had the Lamb gyro and a mole roasted duck..

This place is so unique and there are so many different tacos. I wish I could have sat there all day and tried the entire menu...

To my mind, the ideal taqueria is one you stumble up to at 7:00 AM on a bright sunday morning, in search of something to help sop up the tequila fumes from the night before. It should be lit by harsh fluorescent tube lights. It should be located in a shabby little corner shack in southernmost California or northern Mexico, overlooking a breathtaking view of the Pacific. There should be hand-painted signage in red and orange. All of the cooks should wear greasy white aprons. They should ladle out whole avocados' worth of guacamole with every order, and there should be little plastic baggies on the countertop to take home zanahorias. Sadly, White Duck Taco is not such an establishment as described above. But for what it is, it's very good. First, don't assume that the thing you'd order at a standard Cal/Mex taco stand will be good to eat at White Duck. They aren't going to make a fish taco as good as the ones you remember from your trip to Cozumel, because that's not their gig. So please, ignore all familiar options on the menu. Their gig over at White Duck is stuff like bulgogi tacos. Shrimp curry tacos. Boeuf bourguignon tacos. Lutefisk tacos. Falafel tacos. Shawarma tacos. Stuff like that. Stuff that shouldn't be in tacos: that's what they like to put in tacos. Basically any reasonably dry and portable protein, they're gonna see if they can wrap it in 2 corn tortillas and call it a taco. They're like the crazy guys who put iPhones in blenders on youtube, except instead of iPhones it's some kind of random meat, and instead of blenders, it's a corn tortilla. Now that that is sorted out, lemme assure you, their food is very decent. Order something that sounds weird but potentially palatable, and you'll see the breadth of their talents. My favorite is the duck mole taco. The duck is excellent, cooked like NC pork barbecue almost. Soft, fatty, and falling apart. What they're calling mole is, I think, better described as spiced apple sauce. There's a little crema on top to pull the whole experience together. It's not precisely a taco, but who cares? What you're getting is a goshdang duck-applesauce bundle of corn-tortilla-wrapped joy. What's not to love with that combo? That duck did not lose its life in vain. In conclusion: Genre-bending food. Extremely good for what they're actually doing. Keep up the good work, guys!!

To me, the restaurant is an Asheville staple. Although there is the newer location located in downtown Asheville, the river arts location offers a rich architectural and artsy flavor that the other location lacks. There is both indoor and outdoor seating that are surrounded by lively staff that are constantly bringing out fresh tacos to new customers. The walls feature original artwork made by local artists. This place radiates a positive and energetic vibe and serves fantastic tacos. I have tried a few different tacos from this location and the one downtown. One of my favorites is the fish taco. You can't go wrong there. I also really really like the banh mi tofu taco and the black bean taco. Both are great vegetarian options and fill you up beyond believe!! If you're new to Asheville, a local and looking for a new place to try out, or a tourist searching for a restaurant that offers Asheville style, White Duck in the River Arts District is the place to go. While the downtown location offers the same tacos with the same great taste and quality, I prefer this location. Also, be sure to check out the local galleries after your meal, they won't disappoint!

The first half of our trip to Asheville was spent walking around and passing by the White Duck Taco Shop on numerous occasions. The wife and I lucked out and it just so happened that on one of those passes we needed a snack to keep us going until our later in the evening reservation for dinner. The decor is definitely unique with some basic wooden booth type things. I have never been to Mexico or a legit taco shop, that I know of, so maybe the decor is straight up taco shop, I just can't say for sure. Either way, it's about the food and we ordered 5 tacos to include Banh Mi tofu, lump crab, lamb gyro, Thai peanut chicken and mushroom and potato with romesco. The wife was partial to the Banh Mi tofu and the mushroom tacos, while I preferred the lamb and the Thai chicken. The flavors on both the lamb and chicken were bold and fresh. I was tempted to go order more, but we held back due to our pending dinner reservation. The portions were great and there was no sign of skimping on filling materials and toppings. White Duck Taco Shop is definitely an eclectic establishment and I can easily say I will return for some more of the best tacos that I can remember.

  • Greg N.

One word: consistent. It's got reliably good salsa, queso and taco offerings. If you're not used to bespoke taco creations, you'll think it is four stars or better. But if you're a fan of such places like Taquiria del sol in Atlanta or Raleigh, it won't ignite your taste buds or wet your thirst with incredibly citrusy margaritas. It's also a tourist magnate, so if you're a local, try to get there around 11:45 or try the lesser traveled downtown location.

  • Anna T.

There was hardly a line when I went, which was awesome because I was starving. Pricing is decent, it's about $8 for two tacos and a water. I got a fish taco and a lamb gyro. The gyro was phenomenal. The fish was so-so, it lacked in seasoning but both tacos tasted very fresh. Service is fast here. The only downside of my experience was the guy behind the counter was sort of rude.

Pretty great. Their gazpacho is awesome and they have a nice veg taco option. Plus, they have Tecate in cans and a great patio so, what's not to love?

I've given this place a few tries since moving here in March. I went after 2 each time so there was no wait. Based on atmosphere, quality and ingredients I would love to give this place 5 stars, but I have one major problem. Of all of the tacos I've tried and various recommendation requests to their staff I have never been able to get anything that wasn't spicy. I let the staff know each time I order that I can't eat spicy food and followed their recommendations only to have a mouth full of flames and an upset stomach. The bahn mi, black bean, crab all spicy. I even asked for the sauce on the side. Such a disappointment they don't serve anything for customers with no heat tolerance. I wish they offered no heat options to suit all tastes. Other than that food is fresh, home made and reasonably priced, just wish I could eat it without wanting to cut out my tongue!

When I was planning my road trip to Kentucky, of course I had to scout out a few possible stops along the way. I found an app/site called Roadtrippers a while back but I had never really been in a position to use it to it's fullest potential. Reconciling it's recommendations with some Yelp reviews, I knew White Duck Taco Shop was going to be on my pit stop list. So many thoughts took a trip through my mind as I approached my destination: Where is Siri taking me? I'm going to die going down this hill. This address can't be right. I had to pass it; where the h@!! am I going to turn around? I bet you it's that building where all the cars were turning into the parking lot! Sure enough it was. There's wasn't really much else that I could observe people flocking to other than White Duck. It was 11:38. They open at 11:30 and there was a line out the door. It reminded me of French Pantry back home ( yelp.com/biz/the-french-… ) where people show up close to an hour before it opens just to wait in line. And then as I perused the menu, it made me dream of Chris & his Corner Taco shop ( yelp.com/biz/corner-taco… ). And then my thoughts started going off the rail: If French Pantry & Corner Taco had a baby, it would be a duck. A White Duck. And it would settle in Asheville. So many options to try, but I was on a mission to beat Siri's prediction, so I didn't have too much time to debate my options. I decided on the Korean Beef Bugolgi and the Bangkok Shrimp. The tacos came out quickly. And were eaten quickly too. The flavor on both of them was excellent. The beef was juicy & tender and packed a punch of flavor in the mouth. The Bangkok Shrimp taco was layered with what I assume to be house made pickles. They definitely added an interesting layer of flavor to the taco. My only tiny complaint - and it's not really a complaint, more an observation - is the proportion of pickles to other ingredients. It was maybe one too many pickles for me. Asheville obviously knows it has a good thing going on with WDTS and these guys will be around for a while. Definitely going off the beaten path for this place the next time I'm in the area.

I don't really drink sangria or like anything watermelon flavored but the WATERMELON SANGRIA! That stuff was awesome! The tacos were great as well and they have a little area outside you can sit in the shade. We'll be going back the next time we visit Asheville.

Heard a lot of good things. It was not worth the long wait. They need to work on their Asian flavoring and use different tortillas. That said, it is not expensive and they are very creative which can create some misses. I would go on the off season to avoid the lines.

  • Meagan N.

We went here based on high Yelp reviews and it did not disappoint! Everything we had was absolutely delicious. I love that they use two tortillas on each taco so it doesn't explode on you when you eat it. Definitely make sure to get the chips with the trio salsa. All three had a slightly smoky taste to it and I couldn't stop eating it. I had the duck mole taco and Bangkok shrimp taco and they were absolutely fantastic. My husband had the steak and cheddar taco and the jerk chicken taco which he ate so fast I only got one bite of the jerk chicken (and it was fantastic as well). I will definitely visit next time. My only gripe is that they're not open on Sundays. Definitely stop by if you get the chance.

Fellow Yelper Kelly M. recommended White Duck Taco Shop as a must stop spot on my weekend trip in Asheville this past April. We always loves advice when it comes to delicious food and decided to make the taco shop our first Asheville stop. We got to see a little bit of River Arts District which is lovely and it's not far from downtown where we were staying. We arrived shortly after noon and there was a line outside the door. We had been fore-warned of this as a possibility/probability but decided to use it to our advantage and made friends with our neighbors. The couple behind us had brought their children and grandchildren that were visiting from out of town and gave us some excellent recommendations including the Jerk Chicken and Korean Beef Bulgogi (both of which we ordered. The line moved quick and before we knew it it was our turn. We ordered four tacos: Korean Beef Bulgogi, Jerk Chicken, Bangkok Shrimp and BBQ Carnitas. They were all delicious but my favorite was definitely the Korean Beef while my boyfriend loved the Bangkok shrimp. Upon our touring of Asheville, we ran into their new location downtown and before we left to head back to Raleigh on Sunday we have the genius idea of getting our two favorite tacos one last time... unfortunately we hadn't realized that White Duck is closed on Sunday so make sure not to put it off to the last day if you're going on a weekend trip! I would put White Duck Taco Shop of the must experience list of Asheville!

Line out the door moved fast. Parking is hilly, interior is flat and accessible. I had the Thai peanut chicken and the Korean beef Bulogi. The wife had grilled lump crab with fried capers. Great arts district feel! Awesome food.

Great tacos. Loved the buffalo chicken taco. Plenty of gluten free options for my husband.

  • Jen S.

The chips and queso were good!!!!! Other than that... I truly wasnt impressed. I have heard about this place for a while now, and was so excited to finally go, and it was truly a let down for me. There are so many taco, burrito, places in Asheville.... I really wont pick this one over the others in the future.

I ate here a few weeks ago (downtown location). There service is great, the place is very clean. Food is excellent. If your up to a different take on tacos def the place to go in Asheville. (be forewarned that they do not sell "traditional" tacos)

  • Brian B.

Had never been here before, but had heard great things about it so I gave it a shot for lunch today since I was nearby. If you are looking for a 'fancy' place to eat - this isn't your place, but it looks like it is great for groups looking for a casual lunch. I got the shrimp and jerk chicken tacos - the shrimp was good, but the jerk chicken was AWESOME!! The only thing I would complain about is that I got it to go, and couldn't get another one of the jerk chicken tacos - but I will definitely be back.

  • Shauna C.

I liked White Duck Taco just fine. $16 for lunch for two is reasonable and they have parking which is great. My husband and I split four varieties... 1. Lamb Gyro - Our least favorite by far. The lamb tasted almost gamey..it wasn't pleasant. 2. Bangkok Shrimp- Our favorite. Great flavors, the shrimp are crispy and saucy at the same time, very tasty. 3. Duck W/ Mole. This one had an up-charge but we felt like it wasn't worth it. It didn't have a ton of flavor, I mostly could taste the sweetness from the cranberries/apples and that's about it. 4. The Fish Taco. Our second favorite, fresh tasting fish and nice crunchy slaw on top. None of the flavors really hit me like other reviewers talked about, maybe it was just an off day? If I returned I would go the seafood route.

Delicious tacos that you cannot found anywhere else in Asheville. Fantastic fresh ingredients and an extremely affordable price tag make this one of go to places for an affordable lunch or dinner. There is plenty of parking, and outdoor seating as well as a nice number of seating options inside. An ample menu makes it easy for everyone in your party to find something to eat.

    (5)
  • Angie W.

Great outdoor seating minus this one bee that likes me. Easy to order and get food. Korean Taco- BBQ Carnitas - Jerk Chicken because of the slaw Bankok Shrimp- Lamb- The best is the Bankok shrimp because it has yummy lightly pickled cucumbers

I asked my brother how many tacos does he eat when he comes here and he told me three or four. So i thought they were small and ordered three and almost a fourth, but wondered why my brother only ordered two. I ordered one Banh Mi Tofu and two Fish Tacos and when I got my order I kinda thought to myself that they looked pretty big. Right after I finished the first taco I was pretty much to the point of stopping, but I went ahead and forced myself to eat the other two. They tasted great and are definitely filling. I felt heavy for the next 10 hours and it was worth it. If i remember right I still felt heavy the next day too. I asked my brother why he said he eats three or four tacos but he said he never said that. Smh... Tip for my brother: Quit lying bruh... TWO! Tip for Yelp: GEAD

I've never been to a taco place quite like this one! I am a HUGE fan of any restaurant that you order first and sit down at. It just feels more fun and casual to me. I have been here twice and there has always been a line. Don't let this hold you back because it moves quickly and it's worth it. The nachos and cheese are delicious! The margarita in the mason jar is a cool feel and taste great as well! I had the Bangkok shrimp taco and have tried a few of the fish ones as well! The ones I've tried have a very bold flavor which some people may not like but I loved! Can't wait to go back!

  • Kim S.

Believe all the 5 star reviews, this is the best taco place out there. I haven't had tacos this good since leaving California. I highly recommend the Bahn Mi Tofu, Mole Duck and Thai Peanut Chicken Tacos. The ingredients are fresh and delicious.

    (5)
  • Bryce C.

Meh, I don't understand the love for this place. I was super hyped to try it from the reviews but was pretty let down. I ordered the Bahn Mi Tofu and the Thai Peanut Chicken tacos. The Thai taco was just ok, with a heaping pile of chicken in a way too sweet sauce. The Bahn Mi was a huge let down being just a tiny tiny piece of tofu on a tortilla. I really feel veggie options should be as hearty, if not more so than a meat option. Overall, I thought I paid way too much for some pretty basic tacos.

    (3)
  • Eric C.

Fantastic. Was really hungry. Ordered three. Two would have been enough. Delicious and affordable. Fish and the bulgogi marinated beef tacos were my favorites.

Five of us for dinner. Be sure and get the duck mole taco, and the fish one, and well, they were all good! Fresh margaritas and Tecate.

Love these tacos. Reminds me a bit of Torchys Tacos in Austin. Not quite as good, but still damn good.

Amazing! We couldn't believe it when we found this incredible little taco joint in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina. We felt like we were home, but then the entire city of Asheville gave us that feeling. I ordered the Duck Mole, Mushroom Potato w/ Romesco, and Lamb Gyro tacos. I was only going to order two tacos, but ordered the third just so I could try and I am I ever glad I did. The tacos were absolutely delicious and the creative combinations on the taco menu really entice you to return. Unfortunately, I live in California, but would definitely go back if given the chance!

Gah! This was on my list of "must visit" on my short stay here since so many people recommended it, and my attempted visit my first night in town was thwarted when I found out it closed at 9pm. I'm just not used to a place that serves dinner food to close so early in the evening, and was too busy lolligagging at breweries when the time slipped past. So I made sure on our next and last night to get my patootie here on time. And I'm so very glad I did! Imaginative and delicious tacos ensued. I went with the "one of everything" approach, because I couldn't NOT taste most of them. My favorite was the pork belly. My only gripe, which I was still won over by the food, was that service leaves a little bit to be desired - no smiles, and the goal for them is to be moving quickly (and sometimes they seem to get a little annoyed at people who aren't moving their speed or don't get out of their way quickly enough). Dog friendly patio. You'll likely have to share your table with strangers. No sign for the shop is obvious from the road - just look for the "Hatchery" building.

    (5)
  • Ed W.

Definitely a must if you are in Asheville. My favorites were the duck taco, and pork belly taco. They have a cool vibe. The only drawback is there isn't White Duck in Ft. Lauderdale.

Boyfriend and I chose White Duck as our one spot to eat when we passed through Asheville on our road trip via the recommendation of a friend. Really fast wait in the queue to order the food, and we got our food way faster than expected--always a plus! We sat outside in the beautiful outdoor area with a great sunset coming in. Only downside to sitting outside was the swarm of flies that we had to constantly shoo away from our tacos. I was pleasantly overwhelmed with all of the taco options. Definitely NOT traditional, but all the way creative and funky. We started off with the salsa and chips. Pretty standard tortilla chips with an awesome trio of salsas--they were all yummy. Slightly cheesy one was my top pick. He got the jerk chicken (his least favorite), fish (his favorite by a long shot), and steak and cheese. I ordered the jerk chicken (I was expecting the pineapple to be more prominent...bad choice), shrimp (overly breaded shrimp with a heavy honey mustard sauce...not a good combo for a taco), and the pulled pork with coleslaw (my fave!! The pulled pork meat is to die for). I would definitely come back and hopefully make better taco selections than I did this visit! Check out the Glassblowing factory down the street.

OMG, just 5-10 tacos on the menu but all GREAT. Green man IPA.. perfect non choice. The shrimp and the fish tacos are addicting... my fix needed at least once a week. Sweet cucumbers with the shrimp??? I can't believe my mind! I love the Asheville-like "ambiance" of the Arts district White Duck but heard downtown has the same menu. White Duck Tacos does just a few things, but they do they perfectly!

  • Alex J.

I was told by my parents and brother that this place has amazing tacos. I got the Steak & Cheese and the Korean Bulgogi....both were amazing. I've never had Kimchi before so I was kinda nervous, but I was not disappointed. The interior is cute and small. It was a little chilly as well, and we even sat by the heater. We ordered some chips & salsa which came with 3 different kinds of salsa. I got a Green Man IPA as well which was a little too hoppy for my taste. I would give it another star if the staff were more pleasant. The guy who brought us our chips just tossed them on to the table, but it wasn't even by where we were sitting....

  • Brian W.

My wife and I enjoyed a light meal here with friends, after taking a glass blowing workshop in the River Arts district. Tacos are $3-4 each, boast fresh ingredients, and come in quite a few varieties to keep things interesting. We ordered a thai peanut chicken taco, a korean beef taco, a buffalo chicken taco, and a bangkok shrimp taco. All were good but I would probably not order the korean taco again - but only because I've had too much superb bulgogi at other restaurants. Definitely worth a second visit!

  • Joan T.

Went to have lunch after visiting the museums. The tacos were great had the Korean beef it was tasty, my husband had the lamb taco and he loved it. Our friend had the fish taco and she loved it. Love the atmosphere and the wait was not that bad.

  • Claire R.

We started with an order of chips and queso. The chips alone were good, with queso - YUM. I wasn't in the mood for any of the tacos they had that night, but the southwest corn chowder? YES PLEASE. Oh my word, this was something magical; thick and rich with just enough smoke and spice {and corn, of course}. It had a nice tomato base blended smooth with spices and what tasted like poblano peppers. If I had room, I could have eaten a gallon of this stuff. So. Good.

    (5)
  • Janet W.

Quick, tasty eats. I stopped by the downtown location while doing a walking tour of architectural wonders. I opted for the banh mi tofu and the Korean bulgogi beef. Each was flavorful, completely satisfying in its own way with all components working in complement of each other. And I was completely pleased with how each taco was amply filled but not so overwhelming as to be messy (very important to me).

I'm a bit biased because I love tacos, but these are the BOMB. The atmosphere is fantastic and some great craft beer on tap.

  • David K.

First words that come to mind are Super Fresh. We got the Fish, Thai Chicken, Duck, Shrimp, Buffalo Chicken, and the Gyro taco. They were all plentiful and amazing. The flavors of each blended so well together. They were busy but our food came out in under 10 minutes. This is a casual unpretentious place with fine dining flavors and combinations. This place is a must stop if you come to Asheville. Bottom Line: Drive, walk, crawl, or hitchhike but get here ASAP.

  • Adam M.

This place was great. It was quick, delicious and inexpensive. The Korean beef taco and the shrimp tacos were my favorites. Both the dessert options are dynamite.

  • Daniel S.

The third ranked place in Asheville gives me pretty high expectations. The Good: Mainly everything, from price, service, portions and taste. The staff was friendly, and I was pretty impressed with the price (under $4 a taco) and the quality of the Tacos. I had a fantastic and downright amazing Jerk Chicken Taco covered with Slaw, tasty jerk chicken with solid cinnamon seasoning. The Spicy Buffalo chicken taco wasn't hot (to me, but I like things super hot when I see the word spicy) but tasty. The lone disappoint for me was the Mushroom/Potato taco. I love Potato's like any good southern boy, and I put mushrooms on EVERYTHING..throw in a Feta cheese and this sounded like an odd taco I would enjoy, sadly the Feta/Mushrooms overpowered the potatos (which were hard to find under the mountain of mushrooms) - so it wasn't what I was expecting and it didn't taste that great. I'd go back in a heartbeat, to try some other taco's and give it another whirl, but I won't give it a 5 star for the time being.

You should go here. This is why: - it is a little off the beaten path. it is nice to get out of downtown area. - it is absolutely delicious - it is priced fair - possibly the most delicious corn chowder that I have EVER had. ever.

Delicious tacos with the freshest toppings. The mango salsa on the Thai chicken was exquisite and the Bangkok shrimp taco was my favorite. Yummy all around.

It's 692 miles from my house to White Duck Taco Shop. That's also the number of their Banh Mi Tofu tacos I'm planning to order the next time I go there. In all seriousness, Asheville is an AMAZING food town--but this is the ONE restaurant we made a point to visit more than once during the week we spent there. It's that good. The service and atmosphere are so comfortable and friendly, we felt like it was just the perfect place to hang out, have a delicious (not to mention affordable and healthy) meal, sip a cocktail, and plan our afternoon or evening.

This place was the perfect lunch spot or low key cheap dinner option. The watermelon sangria was the most refreshing drink I've ever had! The food was also impressive. I had the Thai peanut chicken taco and my husband had the fish tacos. We would love to go back on our next visit to Asheville!

I really enjoyed my tacos - flavor bombs! Vegetarian-friendly and very nice patio seating with "river arts district" vibes.

It had great reviews and I was excited to try it, but I thought the tacos were just ok... I actually thought the bean and cheese taco was better than the steak taco, which are words I never thought I'd say... Also got the queso, which I didn't think had much taste and I think the salt shaker broke when they were salting the chips. I had to shake each one off before dipping. I thought they were expensive meh tacos...

White Duck offers a reliably delicious and affordable meal in a casual atmosphere. Some people may expect more, while others are overly grateful for their experiences. I for one think that it's quite nice. Fast, pleasant service in a non pretentious environment. Yay. They even have beers on tap. Double yay!

When the line's out the door at 1:30 p.m., I have to wonder if the food is worth the hype and if it's worth the wait. That's an emphatic yes on both accounts. I got the BBQ Carnitas, the fella got the Steak and Cheese, and then we split the Thai Chicken Peanut. The BBQ Carnitas is probably the best taco I've ever had, and the peanut sauce made the Thai Chicken Peanut. The fella inhaled the Steak and Cheese too fast for me to try it. Ahem. Casual, easy, funky, and delicious - believe the hype.

Head to the River Arts District for this gem -- but try to go off peak hour because it's so popular. The Bangkok Shrimp taco has a curry sauce that's good enough to make shoe leather edible. If watermelon with mint is in season, get it for a refreshing treat. Seating for large groups often is hard to come by, but sharing a table is a chance to get to know a fellow White Duck aficionado.

First of all, you have to get over the fact that it's pretty dirty inside. This didn't bother me or my husband, but some may not be so forgiving. We have some great tacos back home in Jacksonville, FL, mostly from food trucks, so I was hoping for some great tacos in Asheville to rival the ones at home. These tacos were good, but not awesome. The best one I had was the fish taco, and my husband likes the duck taco. The other tacos lacked flavor. I think they need to develop some good sauces for the tacos to give them more flavor. The chips & queso were ok, also not great. We probably wouldn't return since there's no reason to go back for more mediocre tacos. I didn't give a lower rating because it wasn't bad, it just wasn't awesome.

Another bookmark checked off. Worth the trip, tucked in the River District this isn't the easiest place to find, but search for it. I ordered two tacos, Thai Peanut & Spicy Chicken, both amazing. Filled with a cornucopia of ingredients each bite presented a different taste. Some of the best Queso cheese I've ever tasted. If you're in Asheville stop in.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE WDT!!!!!!!!!! Seriously though, it's addicting. Since moving to Asheville last summer I have gone there at least once per week, if not many more times. I have tried every taco at this point and my favorite is the Tofu and the Pork Belly that is sometimes on special. If I could pick my 1 favorite spot in Asheville, this would be it!

I was recently bummed when reading an article in Southern Living on the top 100 restaurants of the South. Like 92 of them were in Asheville and I hadn't been to a single one of them. Okay, that's a slight exaggeration, but the point is that Asheville has made its way onto the foodie map and I was insistent on trying a new to me spot while I was home for Thanksgiving. My parents (and everyone else) know of my undying love for taquerias, so they suggested White Duck Taco Shop to appease this would be foodie daughter of theirs. It's located in the River Arts District, which is borderline not worth checking out in my somewhat jaded Asheville opinion. You should, however, stop everything you're doing right now and go eat at White Duck Taco though. Holy yum! They have a jumbo chalkboard with the taco and beer selection above the counter where you order. I'm sure the beer selection is fantastic if you're into all of the hoppy brews and whatnot that Asheville has to offer. That's not my bag, so I ordered a water. As for tacos, I automatically decided "When in Rome" and went for the duck taco. I asked the employee at the counter what other taco to get, and she recommended the Bangkok shrimp. Consider me sold. We then grabbed a table and sat at waited maybe 5-10 minutes for our tacos to be delivered. My mother dearest was starting to notice the atmosphere was a little dive-y for her taste right about the time the food arrived. Dives are kind of my thing, so that's a plus in my book. More importantly though, these tacos changed my life. I will never be able to eat at another Atlanta taqueria (and we have like a billion) without being disappointed and craving White Duck Taco Shop instead. I don't particularly like duck, but the duck taco was the most flavorful and delicious thing ever, especially with the unexpected apple cranberry salsa combo. The Bangkok shrimp taco with cucumber chili aoli was equally as delicious and flavored with just the right amount of kick. My mom got the jerk chicken taco, which she found to be overly spicy and I polished off for her. My dad had two black bean tacos and enjoyed them, but basically neither parent was raving quite as much as I was. In summary, White Duck Taco Shop is food heaven and dive atmosphere perfection. I plan on coming here every time I'm home visiting Asheville. My parents may or may not join me...

Mmmm!!! I really liked a lot about this place. First the atmosphere... Kind of off the beaten path, lots of outdoor picnic tables, cute interior that feels beachy. The service was incredibly quick and friendly... Order at the counter, take a number, food delivered in no time. The beer selection! Nothing like a good IPA at lunch. The portions... Definitely large tacos... Worth the price tag. The taste... Unique and satisfying. My favorites were the bangkok shrimp and fish.

Cheap and delicious! Quality ingredients and interesting drink specials. Usually there is music blaring during the lunch rush. The only reason it's not a five is because they only have outdoor seating and they are these trap your legs in picnic tables. They're very hard to get in and out of. I like that the bring your food and take it away.

I want to love this place. I'm not a huge fan of mayonnaise and unfortunately, it goes on everything in huge glops. I don't know why you would put it on a taco. They have wonderful options for tacos so when I go I get it without the mayo.

We wish we found this at the beginning of our stay instead of the end because we would have been back. Creative menu and fantastic pairing of foods. I had lamb gyro and caribbean jerk. The flavors are just tasty and prices are low. i think it was $3.45 per each filling taco. for $26, we had 4 tacos, chips and queso, soft drink and a peach sangria. The 2 of us left full. We are going to have dreams about this place. Regarding wheelchair accessibility: the ramp is very gradual and mild effort. The restaurant itself has ample space.

GO. Go NOW!!!! Do not leave Asheville without eating here! I highly recommend checking it out at an offbeat hour. My posse showed up around 1:30pm in the winter time of Dec and there was still a line out the door.... everso slightly; a 10min wait. As much as I hate to say this, it is by far, the best foodie destination I've yet to encounter. I won't, I can't talk about this. Just save some room for dessert - Pot du Creme. 'nough said.

We had an excellent first experience at White Duck this past Saturday. After spending 2.5 hours floatin' on the river, this was an excellent late lunch (we got there around 2pm, so there wasn't exactly a line)! Got up to the front and ordered 2 margaritas, queso and chips, and three tacos for my husband and I (All in all PLENTY of food for the 2 of us for lunch). We got our mason jar margaritas immediatley then proceeded outside to grab a seat at one of the picnic tables. Margs were excellent. Pretty basic and very good balance of tequila and mix. This queso and chips came out first. Large serving and very delish! I mean melted cheese is always amazing, right?? The 3 tacos we had are ordered from our favorite to our least favorite.... 1. Duck Gyro- Holy yumness! Perfect balance of salty duck with that greek sauce on it 2. BBQ Carnitas- Very tasty as well. 3. Thai Peanut Chicken- For some reason this didnt do it as much for me. One bite I took had a bit more of the sauce on it and that made it alot better....maybe we just got a taco with a little less saucy on it. Overall, great experience and very well priced.

My boyfriend brought my along on his second visit to White Duck in one week. Though a little difficult and lengthy to navigate too (especially if you have to wait for a train to pass), it was worth the second trip. I tried the Thai peanut chicken taco and another that featured a breaded white fish. Both were tasty and overloaded with food. Two shells are there to support the weight, but you'll be lucky if you don't drop any crumbs during your meal. The service is quick, no frills, and the prices are very reasonable. Get yo taco fix here.

We came at an off time in the afternoon so there was no line and found a table to sit at quite easily. For a first timer, though, this place was intimidating. I ordered on behalf of my fiance and I, an appetizer and 3 tacos, and the response I got was, "is that *all* for you?!" I should've answered with, "yeah, what's wrong with that?!" I understand that their intent was simply to determine how they should be plated, but the tone was rather unsettling. But it didn't end there. That attitude also came along with the person who delivered our food who said, "well, you guys are sharing, so here you go," as he placed 3 bowls in front of us. Thankfully for them, the food was actually pretty damn good. Otherwise, this would've been one scathing review. Instead, I'm about to spend the next few sentences praising this rude establishment for their amazing food. Ugh. Their Salsa Trio w/ Chips was amazing - all 3 were actually good, tasty, and progressively spicy. We got the Spicy Buffalo Chicken, Korean Beef Bulgogi, and Thai Peanut Chicken tacos, and absolutely loved all three. I did away with the "daikon" or whateveritactuallyis that sat on top of the Bulgogi (unnecessary, much like the attitude of this place), and it became my favorite. Proceed with caution at this place, or be a hipster, or whatever makes the attitude bearable. Or just focus on the food and don't expect anything else.

I'm going to say that the tacos that we had at White Duck Taco were by far, the best I've had since moving to NC. At the direction of a friend, she told me I had to go to this taco shop. We ALMOST didn't make it and almost didn't go. I'm glad we did. It's tucked away deep in a neighborhood that seems to be an art district of some sort. When you first pull up, you think the place is sketch or a little "suspect". I'm telling you, yelp friends, don't judge a book by it's cover. We ordered 4 different tacos. I ordered the Asian shrimp taco and the regular fish taco. One bite of that asian shrimp and I thought I was going to cry. So much flavor. Something magical happened. The fish taco was just as delish. Staff is friendly and they work hard. Great patio to hang out and savor your tacos and great locals to chat with while you're waiting! This is such a delight and I recommend you visiting the Duck if and when you're in Asheville. You will not be dissapointed!

Great ordering experience, sweet girl on the till, and nice patio with lots of shade. Salsa trio and Bahn Mi Tofu were delish. Also really enjoyed the Duck Mole. Tried both desserts - would really recommend the hot coconut macaroon pie with salted caramel - Yum. I am glad to see they are expanding - hope they come to Winston-Salem soon.

These tacos are absolutely marvelous. Double-wrapped to ensure security of the precious cargo, the tacos come in a wide variety, making it easy for everyone to find something to like. I had a carnitas taco, a steak & cheese taco and a Thai chicken taco, and they were all amazing. We only knew about this place because of word of mouth, but we're kind of glad you can't really tell what it is. That will keep away everyone but the most hardcore taco enthusiasts, for whom this shop is a tremendous blessing.

Bangkok shrimp! You have to try the Bangkok shrimp. The food and atmosphere where equally amazing. I can not believe the prices, I have been to many of these artisan taco shops and the white duck is one of the best and most affordable.

SO GOOD. We stayed in Asheville for 3 nights and ate at White Duck 3 times. Their fish taco is to die for and I also tried their Bangkok Shrimp taco which was good too, but not really my style. The salsa trio and queso dip are must gets. Literally go now. So good. Downtown or in the arts district. Both really good. GO NOW.

I fear I have become one of those annoying Yelpers that starts their reviews with: "I really wanted to like this place but..." The truth is, I really did! White Duck is in the River Arts District, which was weird considering its half a mile from where the actual River Arts District is. They're located right off the highway, near a bridge, railroad track and some creepy looking, older commercial buildings. All the makings of a horror movie. There, I said it. Let me be the first to tell you, go in the door marked "ENTER" if you are entering the building to order food. There is even a make shift rope barrier to guide the way. Don't do what Liz did and literally get caught up with a large, 10+ group of women, walking in to refill drinks, assuming it's ok. I walked in the wrong door and was shoved by one of the diners attempting to exit the same door I came in. Not only did he physically push me as he walked by but he actually looked surprised that I shoved him back. Look, the entrance area isn't tiny or narrow and yes space is tight but I'm here for mediocre tacos, not to fight a skin head! The menu at White Duck is impressive and every ingredient is listed with the name of the taco so it can be a bit overwhelming at first. I initially walked in wanting one thing but ended up changing my order completely. I ordered: 1 gyro taco, 1 Thai peanut taco and 1 BBQ taco. I was given a number and I sat at the small table by the register facing the door in case Goliath came back for seconds. The food came out fast, which was great for such a busy lunch rush. I looked at my 2 plates excited to try the food and also a bit surprised. The word taco to me means a hard shell, WD serves soft tacos. No biggie, the ingredient piles were so massive the idea that you can make shift the wrap to hold everything in is even better. After my first bite of the gyro taco, the first thing I noticed was the odd taste of the tortilla. It had such an overpowering wheat and barley taste I spit my first bite out in to a napkin. With such a strong taste and smell, any interesting topping WD may have slapped on, the tortilla ruined it. I got a few looks but I removed the tortillas on all of them, hoping that would help. The gyro was dry. I expected more of the cucumber sauce and moist meat. The Thai peanut chicken was very spicy. I wasn't expecting the spice and despite covering it with the mango salsa, it didn't help. The BBQ taco got me excited with the pork and slaw but the beans that were also on the taco looked and tasted like referred beans. White Duck is a favorite for locals and the patio area seems like a lot of fun. I'll be back for their home made sangria but I'll pass on the BM inducing tacos.

One of the best deals and locales in all of Asheville. I popped in and ordered a Bangkok Shrimp Taco (yummy yum yum) and a cold Tecate for total price of 5 bucks. Great music and a happy server who hummed the music and did a little dance. Will I be back? Uh, YEAH!

This place was decent. Very cutely decorated with a chalkboard menu and stand in line service. Once you order you seat yourself and your food is brought out. There is a courtyard off the back of the restaurant so it is dog friendly, which is always a plus, in my opinion. We were roaming around downtown and wanted something quick and inexpensive. Thus, we were pointed in the direction of White Duck Taco Shop. We wanted to try a little bit of everything so we ordered one of each of the following: Bangkok Shrimp, Lamb Gyro, Fish, and Steak and Cheese. The fish taco was the best, in our opinion. The others were just kind of mediocre...and not hot. I AM a food brat and I like my food hot when I eat it. So, would I go back there, sure. Do I LOVE IT/WANNA TELL EVERYONE...not really...

In from Chicago for a weekend getaway and decided to stop by for some tacos. Read the reviews on here and honestly after eating there, I have no idea how anyone wouldn't love eating here. This place is no frills but has amazing food. You order from the counter, get a number and they bring your food to the table. No guacamole or rice, but they do have beans and a mean side of cheesy chipotle grits. I got the duck, steak/cheese and lamb tacos,..husband got the fish and bean/cheese tacos. All were delicious and the flavors were fresh. Didn't get the chips but from what I could see, they were just chips. The four tables I saw with them not only polished off them off but they got more. Nice touch is that they have beer, wine, sangria and margaritas. Staff was friendly and service was quick...definitely would come back here next time we are in town.

What a treat! So many choices of tacos that it was hard to make a decision. I ended up with the duck, korean bulgogi and pork carnitas. They all were out of this world good. My only complaint is I did not have a chance to try the other options. Atmosphere is low-key with modern decor.

I went to asheville for vacation and I heard about white duck taco so I went to see what it was all about. The food was good and interesting and definitely was striving to be different but I think they could of done better.I had gotten the lamb taco and the duck taco and tried my sister's tacos also. I really think the use of the crema got lost both in mine and her taco...( the steak and the duck) and i was hoping for house made chips.... but got horribly seasoned generic tortilla chip. I hope they step up their game.

I have to follow everyone else with the 5 star reviews. LOVE White Duck! I got in my car in Raleigh at 6:45 am on Friday morning and drove straight to Asheville, picked up my mom and we hit the White Duck! My dad joined us from his office downtown and the three of us were in line by 11:15. They open at 11:30 and the line was pretty solid by then! White duck is in this small old building with essentially two rooms - the main room with the counter where you order and the smaller dining room. They do have tons of outdoor seating, which will be great when the weather calms the hell down! When you walk in (inch in, you're definitely always in line) you see the menu written on huge chalkboards hanging over the cash register. They have a bunch of regular tacos that are always on the menu, then they have daily specials as well. They also serve local beer and margaritas. The reason White Duck is one of my favorites is they are just so creative. Here is a list of their tacos: Banh Mi Tofu, Black Bean, Jerk Chicken, Crispy Chicken BLT, Spicy Buffalo Chicken, Bangkok Shrimp, Lump Crab, Korean Beef Bulgogi, Steak & Cheese, Fish, Duck w/ Mole, Mushroom Potato w/ Romesco, Lamb Gyro, Thai Peanut Chicken, Kid Chicken Quesadilla, Kid Cheese Quesadilla. You cannot go wrong! This trip I had the Lamb Gyro taco and the Bangkok Shrimp - both were phenomenal. I wish my stomach was bigger so I could eat more. Last time I had the fish, jerk chicken and the bulgogi - fish and bulgogi were clear winners! And at $3 per taco, you are getting a great deal. Definitely worth the 4 hour drive!

**NOTE: I tried to give 5 stars but the review page is messed up and will only let me see up to 3 stars! This place is amazing! My boyfriend is a huge fan of tacos, so we made this our first stop when we got into town last week. So many great options to choose from, we both loved the thai peanut chicken tacos. He was meh about his jerk chicken (too spicy) but i loved the BBQ carnitas taco. We didn't try any of the sides, but I had the peach beer on tap which was awesome. Later in the weekend my bf was sad we weren't going to get to go back. Will definitely become a staple on my Asheville restaurant go to list!

This place is kind of off the main path but they are worth finding. We ate here when they first opened and have been back many times. They also have gluten free options as well. I like the steak and cheese tacos with a margarita. Really cool microbrewery across street.

Good place to eat if you have been walking around the RAD. Dog friendly outdoor seating. I am used to torchys tacos in austin which is priced similarly but I think they do a better job at "white people tacos" I had the fish taco and the Thai peanut taco which were both lacking something??? Good fast service!!!

Fish taco was great, outside atmosphere lovely. Will definitely be back. Didn't love the duck taco - ordered it because I thought the namesake must be delicious, but was disappointed. It was not bad by any means, just not quite what I was looking for. I'm excited to go back for more fish tacos and to try more. Definitely my favorite restaurant I've eaten at in Asheville so far, but I've only had 4 meals in the city as of now. Would be even more impressed if they fried the corn tortillas or served homemade flour tortillas.

The White Duck Taco Shop is located in a sketchy spray painted neighborhood but has a safe, cozy, home feel inside. This place is packed at night so it can't be that unsafe. - Fantastic building in a sketchy neighborhood - Small space with seating for maybe 30 - Plenty of parking - Just over 10 tacos to choose from - Very friendly employees I arrived at 8:00pm in 15 Degree weather and the line was out of the door. This is partly to do with the small space but likely more because these tacos pack a lot if flavor. All of the regular tacos are $3.75 each with special tacos being a bit more. I really didn't know what to order based off of names so I browsed through pictures on Yelp. The spicy buffalo chicken is just a chicken tender dipped in buffalo sauce tossed into a corn tortilla. Very yummy though! Bangkok shrimp has a nice peanut sauce on it but be careful because the shrimp pop out when you bite in. Steak and cheese is where it's at. This is the closest thing to carne asada plus it's loaded with meat, no fat. My favorite and mouth watering. After I was done Iran into a black cat outside in the cold and one of the employees came outside and explained he was sort of their adopted street cat they feed. That's a very nice thing to do and the cat isn't vicious. I would recommend this place to anyone in town, but would say to come by in the day. I can't wait for them to open their new location in Georgia!

Visited on our most recent trip to Asheville for lunch. We started with chips and queso which was absolutely delicious. I ordered two tacos, the Bangkok Shrimp and the Steak and Cheese. Both were delicious and I love that they're on corn tortillias. My boyfriend ordered Steak and Cheese, Lamb Gyro, and BBQ Carnitas. He loved his too. all of the food tasted fresh and I loved the atmosphere. I would definitely go back and recommend.

Got the Molé Roasted Duck with cranberry apple relish and the Korean Bulgogi Beef with kimchi tacos... I wasn't sure about the duck because of the cranberry apple relish with the molé but the girl at the register assured me it was her absolute favorite; so, I went out on a limb and tried it. I am SO glad I did!! It was delicious!!! The combination was beautifully harmonious and the beef was equally delectable. The kimchi with the bulgogi housed in the white corn tortilla was excellent. I'm excited to go back and try the shrimp and the chilled crab w/remoulade. Go here if you're ever in Asheville. You won't regret it.

We like that the patio is dog friendly. We also like that they have a gluten free menu. We chose the steak and cheese taco, the BBQ taco (pork), and the chips and cheese. Everything we ate was ok to pretty good, but nothing was "wow"--we don't eat out much--we eat better at home. The service was very good, though.

If I was going to open a taco stand. This is the place I would completely steal very idea from. Their service is way faster than you would expect for such a gourmet taco. The mole roasted duck with apple cranberry salsa has made me multiple times drive way out the way to get. The ambiance is perfect for a casual lunch dinner. Love this place!

Located in the River Arts District, this place fits the spot. Fun, eclectic, and about as many menu inspirations as there are graffitied walls. As a side the queso was spot on - cheesy (duh!) with a peppery twist. I tried the steak and cheese, and the Korean beef, and here's where I'm disappointed: the the marinade on the steak satisfied my appetite, but I missed the fresh cilantro! I missed squeezing slices of lime! Though authenticity may not be their calling card, some things should come along with a taco! As a personal preference, I found the Korean beef too sweet. Finally, per taco, you're looking at $3.45. Certainly, some of the tacos may require such - I've found better for cheaper.

  • Elsie F.

For the queso dip and Bangkok shrimp Taco. The queso was WAY too freaking salty, and the chips were mediocre at best...too soft and dare I say stale-tasting? The taco was aiight...nothing to write home about. But, I just warn, I know my tacos, as I spend much of my time in Baja California. Sure, it was only $8, but not as amazing as I was expecting. AND WAY TOO SALTY!

Best vegetarian / fusion tacos I've had! (Compared to those in NYC and Durham food trucks). Try : the bean, the bahn mi tofu. Both were perfectly seasoned and proportioned. Great for kids and pups, as they have outdoor seating.

This place has a lot of different taco options and that makes it a lot of fun. I had the Thai peanut taco and the buffalo chicken taco. My boyfriend had the buffaloes chicken and the fish taco. It is a great place to stop for a quick bite and sit outside on a sunny day. Definitely will keep going back.

My husband and I didn't really like this place in comparison to other niche taco establishments. It definitely was underwhelming. It didnt live up to what we had heard at all. The staff were great and the atmosphere was quiet and laid back on the tuesday we went in. We ordered chips n queso and 2 Tacos each. The chips didn't taste fresh, more like from a bag at Coscos. The Queso tasted a lot like White Velveeta with a few green chiles added in. The Tacos came on double corn tortillas...they fell apart and seemed dry. The flavors were okay but nothing to go back for. We tried the Thai Peanut and Jerk Chicken as well as the Mushroom and the Steak & cheese. The Mushroom was the best of the 4. This place has lots of Beers which we didn't try so I can't tell you about them but we did order a kids Chicken Quesadilla. It came out almost burnt and filled with breaded chicken tenders and cheddar. It wasn't bad but my toddler nor i didn't enjoy the crumbly breading all though it was a generous portion. All and all the White Duck isn't bad its just not that great. I'm not sure we will try them again but hey everyone including Restaurants deserve a second chance. Right ?

I absolutely LOVE this place. I have yet to find anything that I didn't love. However, the shrimp taco and the gyro taco are two of my most favorite. The only thing I wish was different is the space. Some days you have to wait a while before there is a table available. This only says that the place is a HUGE hit.

Bangkok shrimp...very tasty and cooked perfectly. Very fresh ingredients. Cowboy pinto beans also a treat. Fall harvest sangria only "ok". Will be back to taste more of short, eclectic menu. Ambiance? Well at least the food is quite good.

Unique, fresh, US ingredients, delicious, funky. My husband the Greek said Lamb gyro really good. All the food good . A little tricky to get to - but worth the effort.

Expect to wait in line, then be underwhelmed. These aren't authentic tacos, but dainty Americanized boutique tacos. Ingredients don't taste fresh, but frozen and lacking flavor. The beans are always undercooked and the chips and dip are wimpy. The staff is very friendly and welcoming though and if you find something you like and have a smaller appetite you will probably have a good experience. Overall, it's a nice restaurant to have in this area, but not for me.

Great value pricing allows the opportunity to sample several different things. The Korean beef taco was the best. We also enjoyed the mushroom, the Bangkok shrimp, and the duck mole. My wife loves gazpacho, and this one stood out for its chipotle flavor. When the weather's nice, nothing beats sitting outside at the patio tables. There can be lines at peak times, and be careful to note White Duck is closed on Sundays. There are a few clever mixed drinks and two beers on tap, so the limited drink menu could be a potential downside, especially in a city where the beer is so great and varied everywhere else.

Amazing!! This is coming from a south Florida native who loves Spanish food!! The Bangkok shrimp taco was incredible! I would have given it 5 stars if the girl at the register was more friendly. Also if you go when it's busy you will most likely feel rushed. I don't care either way though because the taco's and quest dip were delicious!!!

Prior to visiting some adult beverage locations, we made our first visit to the White Duck Taco Shop with high expectations based on the word-of-mouth reviews from friends. We were not disappointed! It was really cold outside, so the interior was crowded with patrons scarfing down chips and tacos, which required us to be patient for a seat. But, the staff was kind enough to ask other patrons to make room at a group table for us to sit down (what service!) Between the two of us, we tried the Banh Mi Tofu, Black Bean, Bangkok Shrimp, and Thai Peanut Chicken along with an order of chips and salsa. The tacos were all delicious. Two tacos were very filling! The tortilla chips were okay - the red salsa was decent. I ignored the other two after initial taste testing. Most other patrons ordered the chips and queso (something to consider). Decent beer on draft too. Overall, it was a relaxed, inexpensive, filling, and tasty meal. This will be included on future Asheville trips!

Worth the wait! The line moves quickly, and the waitstaff has managing the crowds down to a science. Fish tacos are a must! And the price is definitely right! Will be back for sure.

A friend introduced me to this place last week and man was it great. Don't let the name fool you. It's not about ducks and it's not mexican food - it's gourmet tacos and they are out of this world. I had the Bangkok shrimp and the steak and cheese. Both were great. The shrimp melted in my mouth. I'll definitely be back the next time I passing through Western, NC.

  • Mark J.

We read the Yelp reviews and had a local rave about the place, so a group of us went. The menu is creative and varied, something for everyone. The salsas were average, with a big pile of chips. The margaritas were almost non-alcoholic, but tasted OK. The fish taco was great. The I don't even remember what my second taco was - something totally forgettable. We tried the famous Chocolate Pot du Crème dessert - nobody at our table loved it, not very interesting. I'd characterize it as a tapas bar that puts food on tortillas. Good for a lunch, but not really a dinner place. On our next trip to Asheville we will eat elsewhere, like Luella's.

I want to live here. We came through Asheville and stopped here and couldn't believe the options. Duck mole tacos? Bangkok shrimp? They were all great. Can't even imagine what they will come up with next. This is not a traditional taco shop. If you want regular ol' tacos, I think you may be disappointed. But if you want funky, interesting tacos with flavor combinations you never imagined, this place is a must.

Really great food for the price. I loved the variety of choices and with the low cost you can try one of each and still not break the bank!

To be honest, the White Duck is a bit of a conundrum for me. I had the bulgogi tacos and the Hubbs had the duck. The bulgogi was a bit too sweet, but I actually think it was the kimchi and not the bbq. When I think kimchi, I think pickled cabbage with gochugang or gochugaru. It's hot, spicy, and makes you snort a little when it hits your nose! This kimchi was pink, sweet, and I'm pretty sure mostly daikon. Now, don't get me wrong. I did like the tacos, but they walked the sloppy joe line as far as flavor. The mole duck taco was moist and the crunch of the "salsa" was a nice touch. I thought there was too much crema, which detracted from the subtlety of the fowl. And the "salsa" was simply chopped granny smith apples and craisins. (So not really a salsa at all.) But overall: good, fresh flavor on both selections. The atmosphere is great and the selection of tacos was fun and unique...but nothing terribly original. Everyone has their own idea of gourmet and how flavors should be delivered. We just have a difference in opinion on this and what kimchi is! The service was awesome! The team was really nice and attentive. The prices were a little rich for my blood. Where I hail from, boutique/unique tacos are nothing new. You can get them everywhere at a cost that's a little easier to swallow. All said and done, I would go back. And you should try them too, and make you're own opinion!

You should probably only eat here a maximum of 7 times a day. After that, it might get boring...Probably not. But still, limits, people...limits.

Truly a hidden gem! The Bangkok shrimp taco is absolutely divine. My husband had the lump crab taco and it I have to say it was almost as good as the shrimp. I'm gonna grab a Thai chicken taco before we leave. If I lived in the area I would surely be a regular!!!!

I heard about White Duck Taco from a couple of people while visiting Asheville and it sounded delicious. The line was well out the door even on a Tuesday evening, but it moved quickly and there was a constant flow of tacos being brought out to customers. I had the fish and Bangkok shrimp. The fish taco was spectacular! All of the flavors came together really well. I liked the Bangkok shrimp too although I feel as though the cucumbers threw it a little off for me. Still good and at a little over $7 for two tacos, I think they were well priced too.

  • Jeff Z.

Amazing taco joint off the beaten path in Asheville. Decor was super cool and hip. Line was about 20 minutes long at an off time on a Saturday, so you knew it'd be good. The duck taco had an incredible array of flavors. Wife loved the Thai peanut taco. All were awesome. Highly recommend!

White Duck Taco!!! Delicious and cheap, go get you some! I had my first taco there on a tuesday, then ate there the next three days in a row until I had tried all the tacos! The first was a "carnitas", it was roast pork, baked beans and slaw. I liked it, but when I hear carnitas I wanted something more savory, so just know that going into it. The fish taco is my absolute favorite, the fish is grlled, spices are well balanced and bright, and its what I want in a fish taco. I had the Bangkok shrimp that everyone raves about, it is very good but the sesame glaze is way to sweet for me although I think I'm the only one with that opinon so definately try it! The other tacos were all great, and they have specials as well. There is beer and margaritas, and I hear the sides are good but I've never made it past the Tacos!

The hand of fate brought us to this tacos and IPA combination at an outdoor picnic table. Life will never be the same again. Tasted five and the prize goes to the Bangkok shrimp with its surprising flavor-packed punch. Mmmmmmmm! Great outdoor seating in a fun atmosphere. Wish I could spend more lazy afternoons out on their picnic tables eating and drinking.

One of the best restaurants in Asheville, hands down. We bring all of our out of town guests here. Fish taco and bangkok shrimp tacos are amazing. Check out their other restaurant, Pizza Pura too, it's also great!

Worth the trip...stopped in while traveling from X to Y. Simple menu, but plenty of variety. Something for everyone. If I had to say something negative, I'd say the chips weren't my style...but honestly, you don't go here for the chips - though the salsa was excellent. In summary: You won't believe you ate so well for so little money.

  • Victoria V.

Every bit as wonderful as I remembered. I has the duck roasted with mole and served with cranberry apple relish . Mmmmmmmmmm . Everything we have tried has been great. The steak and cheese, the Thai peanut chicken, the black bean. Even the chips and queso were fabulous.

Delicious, different, Not yer typical taco shop tacos. Yum. Cheap! Go here! You will not be sorry! My favorite is the steak and the Thai peanut chicken. Man... I should have gone there for lunch today... Everyday..I like their river arts district location the best (nice to sit outside)

I came here about a month back on vacation. I got two tacos and shared the salsa trio with the bf and his mom. The salsas were all very good and I loved my fish taco and duck taco. The food was plentiful, delicious, and not too expensive. WIN. I wish this place were closer to me so I could eat more yummy tacos like these!

Had the Buffalo Chicken taco; my partner had the Thai Chicken taco with a peanut sauce. Shared a Queso chip basket. All, very good. Very filling. The tacos are like $3.45ea. Reasonable, I think, for the quality.

I had just arrived in town and decided to check out yelp as I didn't want anything too formal but didn't want fast food either. When I saw the description of White Duck Taco I was sold! I went back two nights in a row - The Lamb Gyro taco has a special place in my heart (and stomach), that and the Thai taco was spectacular in my opinion. The one that I didn't care for was the lump crabmeat taco as I didn't know it was a cold taco, I wouldn't have ordered it had I known that. The Korean beef was pretty good but not great. That aside, it was clean, service was quick, the tea was just the right level of sweet. If I lived in Asheville, I would be there quite often!

I make White Duck Taco shop a must stop every time I visit from Miami. Envy describes my disappointment that we don't have anything comparable back home. Ecliptic atmosphere is fun and funky for a lunch dining spot. The food choices and combination of salsa are delicious. I try something different every time and they don't disappoint. I always start with a beer and chips and salsa. It never seems fair that you always get out for cheap after a great treat. Try it - you'll want to do it more than just once!

The place looks trendy and with great vibe around it. Starting with its location (right next to a railroad in and industrial part of Ashville). We sat down at the balcony and ordered a couple of tacos and the cheese dip with nachos. The tacos were really tasty with non traditional flavors (cinnamon, fruity, great other flavors). The home made cheese dip was a bit hot and great side to the tacos. The Mexican style dessert pie was an amazing way to end the light lunch, highly recommended.

Excellent tacos! Just not the kind you'd find at a mexican joint. These are gourmet dishes served as tacos for more than reasonable prices... The is a must do lunch spot. Tacos you must order because they are executed perfectly: The duck, shrimp, and beef. So-so tacos: The lamb is good, if you like a lot of feta... The jerk chicken is pretty good. Don't get: The crab.

I seek good tacos. While this spot has an array of tacos, from gyro to buffalo chicken, and very friendly service, it was just good. The queso dip and tortillas were yummy and the tacos I ate were good. Quite possibly I had my expectations set to high for this spot.

  • R P.

Loved this place. Good mellow vibe with the outdoor picnic tables and down by the art district (great place to ride to). The chips and Queso was only $3, which felt surprisingly reasonable. As for the tacos I had three: Bangkok Shrimp - The hype was pretty well deserved, awesome flavor and sweet/crunchy texture to the shrimp. Thai Peanut Chicken - Great taste with the peanut, and pretty smooth, could eat a ton of these. Jerk Chicken - This was pretty solid, but the relative runt of the taco litter for me. Pretty tasty if you like the jerk flavor, had an interesting peppery kick. Washed it all down with a Green Man IPA and hit the road stuffed.

Pretty awesome stuff right here! My boyfriend and I thought it was very similar to taqueria del sol ( in Atlanta). The Bangkok Shrimp taco was outstanding. Other tacos were great, the tortillas were super light and not to heavy. They were quite busy for a rainy Saturday night in what appeared to be an area with little to no foot traffic. I would definitely come and recommend for people looking for a quick unique bite in Asheville.

White Duck is my new favorite spot! I love the fish tacos and the son of a peach beer on tap. The atmosphere is relaxed and interesting. I love sitting outside when the train rolls by. How fun! Affordable and absolutely delicious! I do wish it was easier to get a 2nd beer though....

Every time I eat here- it is fantastic. Even when they are extremely busy, which is often, the service & food are still phenomenal! River district location is my favorite for the ambiance, even thought the food is still great at the other locations. Highly recommend!

Holy mother of taco. This place is amazing. We rolled in on a Saturday lunch. There was a considerable line, but that's always a good sign. My wife and I like to hand over the ordering responsibility to the person that works there, so we asked the person working the register to order what they liked best. That always seems to work well (unless you are at an Applebees or somewhere of similar ilk). Our tacos were perfect. We sat outside on the patio and shared a picnic table with two other people. It's just a great place with great food. Sometimes, simple concepts like this are the ones that pay off the most. I liked everything about this place, and I hate that I live so far away from it. Next time I'm in the A, I'm eating at White Duck again (probably twice).

When sitting before any meal have you asked yourself "Can this be put into a taco?" then this is your taco shop. Recently in town to see family and my sister took me White Duck Taco Shop for lunch. And it was delicious. I had the Gyro Taco and the Thai Shrimp. The gyro was the standout by far. The Thai Shrimp was good, not great but still good. Had this odd Sweet breakfast cereal aftertaste. However, I still like this place and will be back when I am in town.

READ THIS BEFORE REVIEWING: WHITE DUCK TACO IS NOT A MEXICAN PLACE. Please stop talking about your trip to california. If your shitty little trip to california really taught you so much about Mexican food, youd know white duck isnt even trying to be mexican food. Call in and ask if its a mexican restaurant and see what they say. I see tons of low star reviews sayin that this isnt real mexican food. You are all ignorant people and the owner should have your reviews removed. You dont even know what kind of food you ate and you're writing a review. That said. 5 stars for food and service. Mushroom potato taco is the shit. I dont think they make mushroom potato tacos in mexico.

We went to the White Duck Taco Shop in the River Arts District on a recent trip to Asheville. The tacos were fantastic. I especially enjoyed the Thai Peanut Chicken and Fish Tacos. The quality of the food was excellent. The place is off the beaten path and a bit hard to find but well worth the drive. It's not fancy, but a little eclectic like the rest of Asheville. A return visit to the downtown location was good as well, but not quite up to the experience at the River Arts location.

Torchy's Cool Asheville Cousin No frills, just good tacos. This is what you will find at White Duck Taco Shop and, boy, is it worth the wait! A perfect casual option for lunch or dinner, be prepared to wait in a bit of a line and parking can be a bit of a challenge. Limited picnic table seating outside. Nice fish and vegetarian options, plus some seriously appetizing desserts. An obvious staple outside of downtown. Asheville and Austin, two iconic bastions on awesome. Austin has Torchy's Tacos and now Asheville has White Duck. A visit to either will leave you satisfied and wanting to come back for more.

So so good and so so cheap! On a recent road trip we had a quick dinner at this awesome little find. NOTE- it's hard to see the sign, so look for The Hatchery on the outside of the building. We tried the Bahn Mi, Thai chicken and Bangkok shrimp. Oh and a side of queso dip. All were delicious! We only wish we had room for more. Highly recommend.

I love this place. The fish taco is my favorite. White duck makes the best one in town as far as I'm concerned. I also got the Philly Steak and cheese. My friend got the Gyro and all 3 were great. Outdoor seating is so refreshing when the weather is nice. It's easy to get to and lots of parking too.

The White Duck Taco Shop is a very popular, grungy looking shop surrounded by graffiti and flies that serves extremely unique tacos that are on the expensive side but worth the money if you're not from Asheville. Prepare to stand in line outside as this place seems like it's frequented at all hours of the day. There's lots of outdoor seating and parking but you MUST prepare for mud on rainy days because the lot isn't paved. Below are the tacos that my wife and I tried and our opinions of them. 1. Bangkok Shrimp - 5/5 - Loved the shrimp texture and flavor, wonderful marinade. 2. Bulgolgi - 2/5 - Tiny pieces of meat, closer to ground beef than delicious bulgolgi from a Korean BBQ restaurant. 3. Duck - 3.5/5 - Very unique, pleasant, but not the best thing to put on a tortilla skin. 4. Fish - 3/5 - Not unique, not special, not bad. Middle of the road.

I was very exited to try this tacos. The place has a nice relax atmosphere. It was pretty full outside. And since we where on the road and Fifi is traveling with us, it was nice to see so many people with their pets. (There is a cat that seems to live in the corner outside). I am giving credit to the fact that the tacos had creativity, and on paper, or on their chalk board, they sounded awesome. I have great respect for the TACO. I mean u can't just trow anything on a corn tortilla and call it a taco. Specially on a corn tortilla. On flour it gives you more room to experiment. But there is a delicate ratio that the taco must have. And "white duck taco" is a little off on that. The proportions need to be adjusted. But the tacos are tasty, they need some fresh salsas to topped cuz Valentina just don't do the job. I say they are worth trying. We tried the steak, buffalo chick, fish, jerk chick and lamb.

Best tacos I have had outside of Mexico! Love the variety - it is like the top dishes from around the world turned into mouth watering tacos! Loved all 5 tacos we ordered 1. Duck Special 2. Korean bulogi beef 3. Thai chicken - a bit on the sweeter side 4. Lamb Gyro 5. Bangkok Shrimp

The combinations work well but I would love more traditional options and hotter sauces. That's not what they're about though so I don't hold it against them. 5 stars for consistency in great taste, reasonable price, chill atmosphere.

Best place ever! I needed a cheap place close by and found White Duck Taco near the Asheville Crowne Resort. My walking directions: across the river, over the highway, down through the woods, near the riverbank lies White Duck. .5 - .7 miles walking is easy to handle. Over my two visits, I tried the salted caramel coconut macaroon pie (decadent and too filling for one person), chipotle cheese grits (perfect spiciness), Thai peanut chicken taco (so huge, loved the mango pieces and peanut sauce), Korean bulgogi (delicious meat, never been a huge fan of kimchi, but again, great meat), bahn mi tofu (needed more pickled vegetables), lamb gyro (especially great meat). Two tacos are quite filling. They don't skimp on the proteins, so tacos at $3.45 are quite the deal. I would return and I will next year around December 26. Hope White Duck appreciated all the business I sent their way last week. Great place!

  • Orion T.

Did not live up to the hype. Good portion sizes and cheap beer but of the 5 tacos I tried the only one I would order again was the Bangkok Shrimp. The jerk chicken just tasted like allspice and pineapple and the Korean taco was so salty I actually spit it back into my napkin.

Put White Duck on your "must" list! Great tacos, chips & queso, sangria, and quick service. Get the pot de creme dessert if it's available. So many tacos to choose from, and my favorite is Steak & Cheese. NOT a sketchy neighborhood, as I read in another review. Totally safe area (I live nearby, I promise it's fine), clean restaurant, ample parking, and delicious tacos. Definitely check it out!

Ok, we decided after nearly a year to give it another shot. We tried the downtown location this time. MUCH better experience. The girl who took our order was really nice, the chips were not too salty like last time, the music was appropriate, and the tacos were good. Our table had the mole duck, lamb gyro, bangkok shrimp, and thai peanut chicken and everyone was pleased with what they had. Glad we gave this place another try.

Easily the BEST thing we ate while in Asheville. We ordered a special duck taco that had cranberries on top. My mouth is salivating just thinking about it! It had soooo much flavor in a taco. The duck was moist and flavorful. The cranberries added sweetness and the creme on top added a creamy texture, which was out of this world! The Bangkok shrimp taco was a perfect blend of sweet & spicy. Chips and queso are a must!

Great fish tacos can be hard to find. And a great fish taco that's not fried is nearly unheard of! This fish taco is exceptionally fresh and flavorful. And speaking of flavorful, if the mole roasted duck taco is on the menu when you visit, GET IT! And holy crap, the salted caramel macaroon pie...DELICIOUS! It's warm, gooey salted caramel perfection over sweet, tender, custardy coconut heaven!

Come to the White Duck Taco Shop and forever forget the notion that " ... all tacos are created equally," BECAUSE THEY ARE DEFINITELY NOT!!!! Whomever ditched the notion of traditional tacos, deserves to be named in the Foodies Hall of Fame (if there is such a place). I'm telling you truthfully, this place is AWESOME! Don't get me wrong about traditional tacos, I love them and will confess that Taco Bell's are some of my favorite traditional tacos, but when thinking outside the box, the White Duck Taco Shop is the place to go for totally non-traditional tacos. Just look at the photos I posted of the taco menu today and if you're mouth doesn't begin to immediately salivate, you my friend, are dead. I had the Lump Crab taco with Chesapeake style remoulade and the Steak and cheese taco wtih Mexican crema. My wife had the Lamb gyro taco with tzatziki and feta cheese and the fresh fish taco with pico de gallo, slaw and chipotle crema. These tacos are made fresh upon order with the finest ingredients, and if they can find the ingredients local, that's where the originate. All tacos come on top of two 6" flour tortillas which is perfect for halving the topping and turning one taco into two. The fresh salsa trio was comprised of a red salsa, a green salsa, and a mexican pepper flavored sour crema. The chips were the freshest, crispiest and most delicious I've had because they are all dusted with salt, red pepper and I'm sure some other secret ingredients that cause one to instantly crave going back for more. The inside decor is artsy and full of bold colors. The table tops are old weathered doors covered by plastic so the surface is even. The outside area consists of about 20 picnic tables, seating anywhere from 4 to 8 persons and each has a fresh, new colorful full-size umbrella to protect the diners from the sun or the occasional shower. I wish I lived close to Asheville, because this place would absolutely become my once or twice a week go-to place for lunch. It doesn't get any better than this!

YES! YES! and YES!!!!! I just want to be up front before getting into the meat of my review and say I thought about these tacos everyday since i've been there. EVERYDAY! After a daylong brewery hopping trip, we wanted to grab some food to go and settle back down at the house. We've heard good things about White Duck, so decided to there. Pulled up and after seeing the wonderful outdoor seating setup (and it being just perfect weather) we decided to stay. Actually, we couldn't even determine that they offered to go boxes. I ordered the salsa trio, queso and chips, and 3 tacos (bulgogi, thai peanut, and shrimp). To clarify, the salsa and queso was for the table....and it WENT! I may have gotten a handful of chips. I like that there was a variety of salsas, even one that was maybe sour cream based? It was spicy but delicious! If I had to rank my tacos, bulgogi and thai peanut would tie for first with shrimp coming in a close second. I really think I just INHALED them, so maybe my judgement isn't the best. All tacos came with 2 tortillas, which was nice because they overloaded them and it still didn't tear. The only reason they lost a star was for drinks. They have a check-in offer for a free soft drink with any order, but their entire soda fountain was out of commision. It didn't bother me too much since I just wanted water, but I know a few in my group who tried to cash in on the YELP offer. Whenever I go back to Asheville, I will definitely be stopping by again.

Great place! I liked the tacos, great bang for your buck! The beer selection could be better, but no complaints, really! I checked in with Yelp and got Coke for free! Sweet!

Dude... usually when the line wraps out of the door of a place, it's a great sign that there are good things inside (worth waiting for)!! I looked this place up on a weekend trip to Asheville and was not disappointed. I believe there are two locations? But I chose this one since it was closer to where I was staying and on the way when I was driving in. First impressions: "Are we in the right place?" not really located near any other places in an industrial area (near the river)... it was hard to know this place existed except from the online reviews, but once we saw the line we were okay. The parking situation is pretty unique: mixture of street parking and some dirt/gravel lots. Luckily we were "early" so we grabbed a spot, but it could be challenging to find one if we were any later. The line wasn't too bad, since I was with a friend, we divided and conquered in that I gave my friend my taco order and then I went and found a table. It was a gorgeous day, so most of the outside tables (with umbrellas) were quickly being snatched up. We preferred to stay inside and look at the cool artwork on the walls. My buddy was given a number and we waited. We didn't have to wait too long, and we had a feast before us. SO.... MANY.... TACOS... All of them were tasty and crazy delicious. Can't wait for the next Asheville trip to try more of the other unique combinations. We saw a good mix of people here: families, hipsters, business folk, out-of-towners (us), youngin's, so this a great place since it is obviously loved by any and all people.

This place was amazing! We were in Asheville on a bit of a mini vacation and some how stumbled upon this at the advice of one of the artists in this little art district. Holy moly, the tacos are fantastic! There were four of us, so we got a very good sampling of the menu. We got the Bangkok Shrimp, Lump Crab, Korean Beef Bulgogi, Banh Mi Tofu, Duck w/ Mole and the Fish. The ingredients were super fresh and the flavors were amazing. I am really liking this new fusion taco trend. Especially when done right! We finished the meal with the Cut Watermelon w/ Mint salad, which was a perfect refreshing way to end the meal. We were so impressed we tried to return a few days later to end our trip, but sadly they were closed that day. If money were no object we would fly back just for these tacos.

These reviews do not lie! This was one of my favorite eating experiences in all of Asheville. We must've of arrived before dinner rush because we walked in and right up to the register. I could see by the ropes outside that they must get long lines. My fiance and I order 6 different tacos. I don't know if I can remember exactly what we got, but I know there was a buffalo chicken, gyro, bahn mi, thai peanut chicken, pork belly and something else I'm forgetting. For under $4 each, I was impressed. Each one tasted exactly of what it was trying to represent. The gyro, for example, tasted just like a well-made gyro from your local greek joint. The thai chicken tasted like I ordered a dish from my favorite thai restaurant. I mean, everything was awesome. The pork belly though, stole the show. We had a huge piece of pork belly in our taco and it was cooked to perfection. Again, at under $4, a great value considering the quality. My only beef with the place is the warm Tecate beer I was handed the amount of flies outside. The Tecate was on special and the cashier handed it to me from under the register and it was a balmy 70 something degree. Some fans outside would have helped with the flies, but there were none and because outside seating was the only option I saw, we had to deal with dozens of flies constantly trying to land on the food. Overall, well worth any trouble and I'll definitely be back every time I'm in Asheville.

I was not super impressed. Overall experience was ok. It is in a weird area. We weren't sure if it was a safe area, or just hipster(verb?). There is a bunch of tagging, but it is kind of colorful and nice looking. The salsa sampler was REALLY GOOD, and so was the black bean taco. The shrimp with sesame was TOO SWEET for our taste and left a lingering aftertaste.

Impressive! Most impressive! At noon on a beautiful sunny day in the River Arts Districts, the line was already out the door and looking very intimidating. Watching people eat their food in the patio space, we could tell it was going to be good; no morsels were wasted! The line went very quickly though and I found out why. The cashier is a human octopus who can do 5 things at once including ringing you up in 20 seconds flat! The menu is posted on a huge hanging chalk boards with sections divided into Drinks, Standard Tacos and Special Tacos. Order, pay, grab your drinks, grab a number and find a table - easy peasy, lemon squeezy. The toughest part is deciding what to try - the selection is truly mind blowing. I will warn you that two are enough - take the advice of someone who ordered four tacos and is still full a week later. The Fish Taco is simply killer, followed by the Jerk Chicken and honorable mentions going to the Bangkok Shrimp and BBQ Pork. One of my favorite things is how the proteins are presented - the fish and chicken were at least single 3 oz portions, well-seasoned and easier to eat (less messy) than slices. Add to that some really creative toppings that complement them and you create magic! Red cabbage and pineapple salsa on Jerk Chicken! Mmmmm! If you're with friends, definitely try the Salsa Trio! Well worth it! The White Duck is basically a well-oiled, delicious taco makin' son of a gun! Don't let the line scare you away!

White Duck Taco is okay. I've been there twice now and waited in line. I think it's overhyped. I'm a Texan. Taco's mean a lot to me. These are just okay. I need more spice than White Duck has to offer. They do serve alcohol. That's the 3rd star.

After running on we like to go there to enjoy a few tacos, they are delicious! I usually just get one duck taco: it's a perfect snack and scrumptious! I highly recommend trying at least once, well worth the time!

We walked down to White Duck Taco Shop from Wedge Brewery for a late lunch. It was perfect for a 4:30 lunch because the tacos were a la cart, so we didn't have to commit to a giant meal to satisfy our appetites. We started with the salsa trio and could not come to a verdict of which we liked best...I leaned toward the creamy pink salsa, and hubby leaned toward the smoky red salsa. The salsa verde was great too. We didn't see a description of the salsas so we don't know what was in them, but for $3, we would definitely recommend. The chips come sprinkled with seasoned salt too...yum! We ordered 3 tacos. I had the bahn mi tofu taco and it was perfectly light, yet fulfilling. Hubby ordered the bbq carnitas and Korean bulgogi tacos and was a huge fan. I liked what I ordered better than his, but I guess that's the beauty of ordering a la carte Main criticism. My margarita wasn't good. It's watered down and tastes like plain lime juice... other than that, we loved the atmosphere and our food and would definitely return.

This is a must in Asheville and I can't wait to return! I started off with the chips and salsa trio. I thought the chips were just meh, not warm or salty just very traditional chips. The salsa trio consists of a red smokey salsa, verde salsa and a spicy queso. All were great! I order the Spicy Buffalo Chicken and Bangkok Shrimp tacos. They were fresh and full of flavor. You know how your soft taco tortillas usually rips because it's so full? Well White Duck Taco Shop fills their tacos full then uses two tortillas, so no tearing here! There are plenty of picnic tables outside and seating inside. Be prepared to wait. We waited about 15 minutes, but we talked to a few locals and the line can get pretty long (which means the tacos must be amazing). This is a very casual place and dog friendly.

We stopped here on our road trip and had a good meal. I can see why this place is so popular. We got a mix of mole duck, bulgogi, thai chicken, and fish tacos. Overall, we felt that the tacos that are part of their regular rotation were better than their special tacos. The fish tacos were outstanding, probably the best I've had outside SoCal, and very close to what I used to get across the border in Tijuana. I didn't get to try the Thai chicken because it was scarfed down so quickly :) The duck mole was disappointing and the addition of apples and dried fruit was confusing. The bulgogi was only vaguely pan asian in flavor and didn't resemble any bulgogi I've had in the past.

Fun place that is located in the artsy community of Asheville. I ordered an IPA, Jerk Taco and a lamb taco. My wife and daughter ordered a fish taco and chips & queso. The food was very good. Go up to the counter; order; pay; they give you a number; you find a seat; and bingo a few minutes later they bring the chow. It is a very efficient and friendly atmosphere. Prices are very reasonable. The entire experience was great. The only suggestion I would have is to have some other hot sauces to choose from. Great way to top off a Friday night.

White Duck Taco Shop is definitely a hidden gem of the south. There are so many choices and each one is delicious. It is so busy that even though it is a location that is hidden away, there is a line. I went around 2-3pm on what I thought was an off hour for lunch and there was still a decent wait to order food, but it was worth every minute. These are the tacos that I ordered. 1. Fish taco - This taco is probably the best fish taco that I have ever had. Everything inside the taco was delicious, however, one reoccurring theme would be that their tortilla could have been a little better. The tortilla is a very traditional corn tortilla, very much like one that you would have if you visited any Central American country. 2. Lamb Gyro - The gyro taco was perfect. It was definitely full of flavor and the garlic and onion were great flavors in it (not recommended if you're going to be kissing anyone afterward... unless your counterpart is into that kind of thing). This is definitely more gyro than taco, but they do a phenomenal job of making it authentic tasting. 3. Bangkok Shrimp - If you've ever been to Bonefish Grill, this is like their bang bang shrimp in a tortilla. If you've ever had the bang bang shrimp, you know how good it is. It is a mix of a sweet, spicy sauce and shrimp with a cucumber chili-aioli. Definitely recommended. Overall - great little find in Asheville, NC... It was a place that I stumbled on and a nice surprise. EAT HERE!

Not to brag, but being a bit of an aficionado when it comes to mexican food, I've had tacos in nearly every state, including lots of cities in California. Here is my take: - VARIED menu makes selecting your taco fun! From interesting twists like the gyro taco to classic carnitas, you can find nearly any taco to fit your taste. - MEDIOCRE tacos...I really struggle to understand what the buzz is about on this yelp page. After having the duck, the carnitas and the shrimp tacos, I am extremely disappointed. Shrimp was the best of the group, but the combinations of ingredients were simply not good. - LOCAL vibe, judging by the number of people with beards, clearly lots of locals come here. - SHORT space to order and no organized line. It would have been nice to put some dividers and keep more people inside while waiting, rather than outside in the cold. To sum up, unimpressed.

White Duck Taco is such a cool concept, coming from someone who ate here as a tourist. They offer a variety of different soft shell tacos for about $3 each as well as special tacos that change periodically. This makes Duck Taco an affordable place that can fill you up with at least two tacos. There are two locations and I tried the one in the Arts District. With that being said, the decor was very urban and artistic; lots of vibrant colors going on. The food was yummy and I had a hard time deciding which types I wanted to try because they all sounded great. The styles are more on the modernized side than expecting authentic, traditional tacos. I tried the fish taco, Bangkok shrimp, and the bulgogi taco, all of which were fantastic. Each time of taco offers their own fix-uns so I decided to try each one as its meant to be prepared, rather than requesting each one to have guacamole, cheese, etc. Next time I'm in Asheville, I'm definitely stopping by again!

Not a fan it's ok for Americans but not Mexicans. I found the tacos to be boring and the taste to be something I could get any were! We got the watermelon mint and the watermelon was not fresh it was old! The watermelon had transparency to it which was the first clue that it had been around for a few days! The only taco we liked was the fish taco and that was about it we orders one of each off the menu. That's all I really have to say. We were told about this place when we went Whitewater rafting. From eating here we were very disappointed!

I love you White Duck Taco Shop, I'd like for you to take my hand, and never let it go, exploring a life together of mouth-watering transcending combinations and happiness. Pork Belly and Watermelon Taco? Hello eternal joy. Bangkok Shrimp Tacos? HOLY COW ARE YOU GOOD! Everything was so good, I decided that this will be our go-to place each and every time we are in town for business, leisure, friends & family. Thank you and remember, never let go.

I was extremely disappointed by the service. We visited from out of town and had specifically picked White Duck Taco because of all the hype and it claimed to be dog friendly. Brought our 2 small pups and stood in line. We got to the double doors and not knowing their rules to keep the doors closed, we were scolded by a server. Not polite, just a rude tone off the bat. I did as she told me and moved in so the door could close. I waited a little more and gave it a second chance thinking maybe she was in a bad mood. Then, a second time, we were scolded by a different server about keeping our dogs out of the way. Again, unnecessarily rude. Mind you, our dogs are pretty well behaved and both under 15 lbs. The people around us in line had fun petting them. They're good pups. We tried to help the situation and my partner took the pups outside to find a table. She came back in line a minute later and said she was told she couldn't sit until she had a number. Lol- pretty unwilling to work with us in any way apparently. We left without even ordering. I'm not super hard to please, but I don't enjoy being treated poorly if I'm about to support your business. They could have handled the situation in a more professional way and used kinder tones. We left and went down the street to Wedge. They had a taco food truck luckily and we had no issues. Lol. I look back at the experience and shrug off their rudeness, but I won't be back.

Queso was a good start, not a long wait. Fresh flavored with unique spin. The Thai was sweet and with a perfect balance of spice. The crab at first was a mouthful of real crab, a true difference from the west. But after a full taco, it lost its novelty. The Korean BBQ was sweet and tender chunks, but too spicy for this gringo! Would definitely return to find again. My 7 yr old said this is his new favorite place.

We were blown away by the tacos here. Between the two of us we got 6 different tacos. A couple of the regulars and then 4 of the specials. The bulgogi taco is hands down the best taco I've ever ate. The prices were agreeable and I loved the outdoor dining area. People seemed to eat their food and move on pretty quickly for a Friday night. Can't wait to get back.

One word. YUM!! After a long day of sightseeing we stumbled along this place, and let me say I don't regret it. First off, if your looking for ambience this is not your place. Well it does have an ambience of its own, it's not the typical ambience. It's a cafeteria type style and there is no wait staff besides to bring out your food, and later take your plates. Seating is slightly limited with few indoor tables and lots of outdoor tables complete with umbrellas. The day we went it was drizzling, but the inside area was quite stuffy so we opted for the outdoor. The menu was quite simple, but VERY yummy. We started off we a salsa trio, which was quite delicious, especially the spicy cheese based (maybe queso?) salsa. The tacos were yet again, simple but quite tasty. The menu was complete with tacos ranging from fish tacos (which were to die for) to Asian fusion, Korean BBQ tacos. Overall, I'd highly recommend you check this place out!!

Driving through Asheville we pulled over for lunch here on a recommendation. HOLY FRIGGIN MANNA FROM HEAVEN! This place is amazing! If you don't eat here then you're just making a huge mistake. The pork belly taco was something to write home about about. And my mama don't even do pork belly. The strip of pork was fried to perfection and served with a brilliant balance of fixins, including pickled watermelon rind. The Korean bulgogi taco matched the former in perfection! Perfectly prepared with the right amount of sweetness and served with kimchi coleslaw. I cannot believe I ate something so good! I was dancing in my seat and proclaiming my love for these tacos to the other customers. I had a few old ladies really cracking up but when it comes to these tacos I have no shame. I am seriously considering relocating to the Asheville area just so I can eat here.

As a person who doesn't like to stray from what they know and love, I like to get one tofu bahn mi taco because I absolutely love it and then add one other taco that I've not tried before. Most recently I added the fish taco. It was also really delicious. I like to also get the watermelon and mint as a side. Really tasty. The service is quick and friendly too. I'd definitely recommend it for a quick affordable meal.

Great variety, quick service and inexpensive! Yummo! The Thai chicken tacos were amazing as we're the shrimp ones. The restaurant was small and like a hole in the wall as the bench seats were dated and not so comfy but it was worth it because the tacos rocked!

  • Melanie M.

This is an amazing and creative taco restaurant. The menu is super innovative! I had the Korean Bulgogi taco with kimchi and the shrimp taco with pickled cucumbers and another very robust and flavorful sauce! The out door patio was lovely and relaxing! The service is quick and the prices are very reasonable These are not your regular tacos. Go with an empty stomach and try 3 or 4 choices from their fabulous menu. It's hard to choose! I would highly recommend this place for family's, groups, couples or just with yourself. The atmosphere is very casual.

Off the beaten path but totally worth it. Plenty of parking. Food is affordable and has amazing flavor. Cafeteria-style dining allows you to share your table with other patrons and make new friends.

Try something new!! They have a rather funky menu, but if you can make a Banh Mi taco, I have faith that everything else they have will rock out as well. Also, get the sangria. Just do it.

Whether you're a local or just passing through - White Duck Taco shop is a must. Though sometimes the lines can be long, it is worth the wait. I have tried many different tacos over the multiple visits (i don't live in Asheville but we stop everytime we pass through) and have yet to dislike any of them. The Mole Duck is a must but i'd also recommend the Thai Peanut Chicken and the Bangkok Shrimp. If you're going for lunch, be sure to get there a little before they open, or you'll be in line for a while.

Absolutely delicious and a must eat when you're in town. I'd prefer to give it 4 and a half stars, but alas, I cannot. Went here while on vacation and it was one of our favorite meals on the trip. All the tacos we had tasted fresh and were awesome. I read in a different review about some tacos being cold. I can tell you, none of ours were cold, all were prepared fresh and wonderfully. The only downfall at the time was that the chips were not the freshest. Could've been from the humidity or the heat or something. I've had worse chips, and they were still completely edible and didn't ruin the experience for me by any means. And they were a completely suitable vehicle for the queso dip we devoured. Just not as fresh as I would've liked them to be. Maybe a personal preference. Another odd thing, is the location. I thought our GPS had lost its mind. The area isn't where you would expect to find this gem of a taco stand. All in all, if you're visiting Asheville and are a human who needs food to survive, you must stop here. You won't be disappointed. In fact, I'll be disappointed in you if you have a chance to go and don't go. I'd be a regular if I lived here.

Love White Duck! My husband and I have been in with our wild, on occasion 2 year old many a time. The line can be long, for sure, but the staff does a great job of keeping it moving. Super accommodating for the little ones. And should have said this first, the food is awesome! I love the Bangkok shrimp and the fish taco. Husband goes nuts for the gyro taco and the steak taco.

  • J R.

This place is super unique. They have great great tacos but with a gourmet quality! I wish they offered all of their tacos as gluten free but they do offer plenty. They are reasonable prices too. Try the steak and cheese taco and fish taco YUM

I've now visited the White Duck 8-10 times and I think I'm ready for a review. Unfortunately, after reading the other reviews on Yelp, I don't have much to add to what others have said. This place is terrific. Every taco I've had (with the exception of the Thai Chicken) has been phenomenal. My personal favorite is the two taco order of the Bangkok Shrimp and Carnitas tacos. I've tried a three taco order a couple of times, but it's a bit much unless you've got a bigger appetite than me (and I've never been criticized for having too small an appetite before). I imagine this place will only get more crowded as the River Arts District continues to grow (hello, New Belgium Brewery) so visit now while you can still get in. PS I'd be remiss if I didn't note that I don't think the shrimp are deveined, but I try to just ignore that and eat them anyway. Your mileage may vary.

When I want something simple, fresh, and inexpensive, this is where I come. These tacos aren't your typical Mexican fare! The menu is international in nature, drawing on a multitude of ethnicities, so whatever your mood is, there is a taco to fill it. The menu is simple: tacos, chips and salsa, chips and queso, and a couple desserts. There are usually 10 tacos on the board, plus a couple of specials. I find myself wanting about six different tacos when I visit, although I can't eat quite that many. The salsa trio features a spicy tomato salsa, green tomatillo, and a chipotle sour cream salsa. All are delicious. The homemade queso has caramelized onions that make it nothing short of addictive. The chips, however, taste like they came out of a bag. The Mexican steak and cheese taco is solid, and I love the crunchiness of the spicy buffalo chicken, with just a tab of tangy blue cheese sauce. The Thai peanut chicken taco is spot-on amazing. The lamb gyro taco is tasty, but the lamb is processed gyro meat like you would buy in your grocer's freezer. For a restaurant (and a city) that prides itself on scratch-made food, I would expect they could marinate and grill real lamb...or take it off the menu entirely. The processed meat can't hold up to the lovely tsatziki sauce, and cheapens the whole taco. The texture of the banh mi tofu taco leaves something to be desired, The tofu is served as a rectangular hunk in the tortilla, which makes biting a bit bizarre. I would prefer to see it cut into pieces, and a bit of jalapeno/cucumber/cilantro (in addition to the pickled carrot and daikon) wouldn't hurt, in order to make it a true "banh mi". My only other beef is that the specials never seem to change. There is so much you could do with tacos, especially with such an interesting menu. The last three visits I've made, the specials have been the roasted duck with mole taco, and the bulgogi beef taco. While I'm sure they're both delicious, can we keep it interesting for the locals?

My husband and I had the good fortune to be staying at the Sweet Biscuit Inn. While there, another guest recommended that we eat lunch here since she knew we would be in the River Arts District. When we arrived there we saw a line out the door but were assured by everyone there that A) the line moves fast and B) it is totally worth it. Well, they were not wrong. The line moved swiftly, we ordered our tacos accompanied by cold beers and had a blast. And a nice coincidence - our B&B mate showed up, too. She and her husband couldn't get enough and so made a return visit.

Anyone who knows me knows I *love* a good Mexican style taco...they don't make those here. And I couldn't be any happier about it!! While I don't have much to add to other reviewers' notes, my personal experience was lovely. On a warm spring day in the mountains, my husband and I sat outside at a picnic table gazing at the unromantic overpass nearby, the more romantic Broad River and the train tracks. I had a Bahn Mi Tofu Taco, Fish Taco and minted watermelon. My husband ordered the cowboy beans, Jerk Chicken and Carnita Tacos. We were both very happy with our selections and wished we could visit more often and try all of the other options. Fantastic joint for lunch with a laid back, and I might add, dog friendly, atmosphere.

These tacos are spot on every single time. Yes, you will probably have to wait a little while in line to order. Yes, you may not get the table you want to sit at. Doesn't matter. Friendly staff and perfect food. It's as good as it gets. You won't regret going.

This place was unique in that I've never seen a taco place create such new and different tacos like Thai Peanut sauce with chicken and Mole Duck. These tacos are all made on round soft shells. They blend different flavors together; like chicken and mango and black beans with white sauce and lettuce. It's the salty meets sweet tastes in many of these fine tacos. I wish I lived near here to try all of them. Next time I'll be sure to grab a few for the road.

This was our first stop coming into town. My husband and I enjoyed 5 tacos all together and each one was unique and full of flavor. I was blown away by the quick service and the fresh ingredients. I will definitely put this on the return list next time I'm in town. My faves were the fish and thai tacos.

As my three stars suggest, it's an OK taco place. Good place to hang out and eat with fun conceptual taco varieties. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Though, make sure you beat the usual lunch and dinner crowds. The price can be a little bit deceiving to first time customers. The Yelp rating of one dollar sign ($) is misleading. Unless you eat like a rabbit, you'll likely be ordering two or more tacos and a drink. It ends up being not as cheap as you thought. On top of that, these are not sharing sized tacos. Make sure you order your own tacos. For an Asian guy, I didn't like the "Asian" themed tacos unfortunately. Bangkok Shrimp, Thai Peanut Chicken, and Korean BBQ were all... what's the word?... generic. I've had food truck tacos that were just as good. So, this place gets the nod for decent tacos, but only if you're craving hipster tacos and can't chase down a food truck.

Better tacos than anything I've had in NYC or Mission! The black bean taco and bahn tofu taco were stellar. I'm not a meat eater, but even the lamb taco looked delicious. Nice folks, cheese dip, Mexican chocolate dessert options, and $3 local beer. After you nosh, take a stroll through the artist studios in the Hatchery next door.

Very fun little place to grab lunch or hang out with some friends. We tried the salsa trio and a couple of tacos for a quick lunch. The chips seemed slightly stale but otherwise it was fine. This place just may be worthy of a return visit next time we are in town.

Amazing find: Great environment, awesome food, good beer and great price. Lamb gyro was my favorite taco, followed by the Bangkok shrimp. Pumpkin beer was great. Definitely one of the highlights of my Asheville trip.

So glad we made the trip over to the River Arts District for this gem! Its a fun quirky place where you order at the counter and find a table inside or out. There's plenty seating, which is good because it's always seems crowded. Unique menu that rotates and brings in flavors from all over the world. Ya gotta try it!

  • Jasmine K.

Seriously really good. The flavors of their ingredients that they combine are great! I would suggest getting the watermelon with mint, especially if you are getting several kinds of tacos. It cleanses your palette in between each taco and it's just plain refreshing. If we visit Asheville again we are most definitely coming back here!

The tacos were very different but amazing! I'm vegetarian and my husband isn't so trying to find a restaurant for us both to enjoy is hard but White Duck met both our needs. We can't wait to go back !

I rely on Yelp when I am out of town to find local gems and The White Duck Taco Shop did not fail. My boyfriend and I just finished paying for our tickets to the Biltmore for the next day when he asked me to "Yelp" somewhere to eat. We love Mexican food and when I saw all the great reviews for TWDTS I just knew it was the place for us. I had a bulgogi taco and a Bangkok shrimp one as well. Both were yummy and went perfectly with the margarita I ordered. Can't remember the two my boyfriend had, but can tell you he raved about how delish they were. The chips and 3 salsas that came with order were good too. I will definitely go back next time I am in Asheville.

Had high expectations based on other reviews. I thought the tacos were just average--we tried 3-4 varieties. Staff was friendly. Overall bang for your buck just ok though.

I love a good taco and these were among the best I have ever had. Also has a great IPA to go with the taco. Must go to if you are in Asheville

White Duck taco has taken all of the tastes humans love and captured them in their tacos. The only way we can free them is by eating them.

We were there at about 6:30 on a Saturday night and had no trouble parking. Only about a ten minute wait in line to order. Got a nice table outside and food arrived after a few minutes. We both had the Duck Comfe taco. I had a Jerk Chicken taco with it and Carol a Lamb Giro taco. All were excellent. With the two beers we spent about $25. We'll be back!

This is one of my top favorite restaurants in AVL. I have had consistently good experiences here. When I have eaten here with friends and family, everyone has been pleased with their food. It is casual: you order at the counter and then find a seat. Even though this can seem disconcerting, I just moved here from Portland OR and many restaurants operate that way there. It always seems to work out that a table opens up just in time to sit down before the food is delivered. Top favorite menu items from me and my family: fish taco, shrimp taco, corn chowder, queso dip, chips and salsa trio

  • Brett H.

We went here on a Saturday so there was a bit of a line. It moved quickly though. It probably took us 20 minutes. They had a good handle on it though. They had plenty of help and great service. The tacos of course were fantastic. I tried the Mushroom Potato which was on special, the Bahn Mi and the Bancock Shrimp. I had the Sangria as well which was right on. They have some good beers on tap too. It was well worth the wait. Be sure to check out Wedge brewing while you are in the hood.

The traditional tacos like steak and cheese or fish are really great, but the unique flavors like kimchee beef, roasted duck, and lamb gyro really make this place stand out. One of our favorite places in AVL and beyond.

Surrounded by art, a charming staff and "walk on your knees through broken glass to get" tacos ... I have to say its worth a visit. Okay so I can't recall what I had, shoot me, but we sampled 4 taco types in all and were not disappointed once! Good beer on tap and a great graffiti wall in walking distance draws me like a moth to flame. A great place to take a break when doing an art tour of the area.

Can't say enough great things about White Duck Taco Shop! My boyfriend and I were visiting for the weekend and based on a friend's reco, decided to try the Taco Shop. Everything on the menu sounded so amazing that we tried several tacos to sample in addition to their delicious margarita and white peach sangria. Our favorites were the Korean beef, shrimp, and lamb. The flavors were perfect and we were amazed by how much protein was in each taco. Service was great, the outdoor seating was perfect and we really enjoyed the food. Can't wait to return! If you see a line, don't be deterred - it moves REALLY fast!

I am in love with this place. I know we've only met one time, but White Duck Taco, I believe we were made for each other. Your buffalo chicken and Bangkok shrimp tacos were heavenly. The $2 Tecate was right up my alley. I can't wait to go back. Seriously. Amazing. Nom Okay, I went back. Still love this place, and now seriously love the fall sangria. BUT not a huge fan of the jerk chicken taco. It didn't have as much pizazz as I was hoping. My friend got the black bean taco and a potato/mushroom taco, and they both looked loaded and delicious. Great place for a quick, cheap, awesome meal.. vegetarian or carnivorous :)

Please someone tell me how this place has almost 5 star review? I can not understand it! Unless there are idiot tourist going to this place! There is BY FAR better places in Asheville. The menu is boring, the staff is VERY RUDE, and the prices are insane. For two crappy tacos I paid almost $10! Insane. I guess that is the price you pay when they slap the words "local" "organic" blah blah blah to anything to allure tourist. Save your money and go elsewhere!

  • Caroline B.

This place was delicious! I got a margarita along with a fish taco and steak taco, and it was all wonderful. My husband got the Korean taco and Bangkok shrimp, and he said both were great. All the food was fresh and delicious. We would go there again in a heartbeat!

Great food and interesting specials. Have gone there multiple times during our visit and very glad we found the place. Feels like Seinfeld and the soup Nazi when you que up and wait to provide your order. You won't be disappointed. We have tried most of their tacos and have liked them all. My favorites have been the peanut chicken and Thai shrimp tacos. their queso appetizer is good as well.

This was the best food experience I've had in Ashville -in a quick 2 day trip. The four of us ordered Buffalo chicken, thai shrimp, fish taco, and another chicken taco (it was grilled chicken breast with mango and shredded cabbage). The fish taco was REALLY GOOD. I also love the Shrimp taco very much. I wish we tried the Korean BBQ, too :). Simple place, no frills, fun to go grab a few bites with friends, cheap price... Whats not to love?

We drove to Asheville to explore and my husband researched where we would go for lunch. We ended up here and I was pleasantly surprised with the whole experience. First, of all there was a line to get in (which usually implies good things to come) and the menu was not overly crowded with too many choices. Which I appreciate because I have a hard time deciding when I first try out a restaurant. Next, they basically serve tacos plus a few sides and that happens to be our favorite food. I had a Bangkok Shrimp taco and a Steak and Cheese taco, my husband had the Mole Duck taco and a Lamb Gyro taco. Plus, we shared the trio salsa and chips. All was DELICIOUS! Area is a "art district" and very hipster. We will make another 2 hr drive just for this place.

Starting off a Saturday with a pint of house made Watermelon Sangria? You can't beat that with a stick. Pair that with fresh, filling gourmet tacos for $3.25 each? You can't beat that with a Redwood. Patrons were lined up at White Duck Taco Shop in Asheville's River Arts District waiting for them to open recently, and the owners and staff were ready for them with an unexpected taco and sides menu and superfast service. Like many Asheville eateries, their offerings change daily based on organic market availability, and we had a gyro taco and a steak taco that will bring us back to try more. Inside, the high-ceilinged main dining area offers a view into the kitchen, where shelves of watermelons lined up waiting for their turn to offer their ultimate sangria sacrifice. Additional seating can be found in a cozier annex furnished with recycled doors converted into tables, and bench seating adorned with pillows the colors of tropical waters. Outside, the neighboring gallery's dog can be found soaking up the sunshine, and the umbrella shaded picnic tables overlook White Duck's parking lot and a train trestle. Not exactly a panoramic view, but coupled with the smell of fresh plywood from the new tables, there is a sense of history and promise, hard work and family here; what was once an industrial park in a flood plain is now an emerging village of galleries, artisan workshops and restaurants. White Duck Taco Shop is doing exactly what it should be, exactly where it should be.

AMAZING menu - out of the box tacos (mole roasted duck, bangkok shrimp, etc). I had a delicious homemade margarita. I recommend getting 2 tacos at a time. I had the special mole roasted duck taco, as well as a buffalo chicken taco with a homemade blue cheese sauce - yums! They seem pricey ($3.25-$5.50 for the special) but they are worth the price - highly recommended. Don't miss out.

I found this place on Yelp while we were visiting Biltmore for the weekend. Great fish tacos, although spicy. Be ready with a drink. My wife had the shrimp tacos that she liked but there were some clashing flavors in my opinion. Great crowd and reasonable prices. The neighborhood around was a little sketchy, but is is Asheville so don't let that deter you. Definitely a good lunch spot.

Made my second visit in a year here on Saturday. I was tempted to try another Asheville restaurant, but just couldn't resist the thought of White Duck's tacos! Saturday I got a Thai Peanut Chicken Taco and a Korean Bulgogi Taco along with a 1/2 pint of RJ Rocker's Son of a Peach, all for $10. So delicious, and the perfect end to my short visit to Asheville from Flat Rock. Keep it going White Duck!

Wow - all the things a foodie wants in a local eatery! Arrived and saw they had lots of picnic tables with umbrellas out on their big deck that overlooks the French Broad River area. The gang wanted inside seating, so inside you'll find that rustic yet cozy Asheville chic with local art on the walls and cool background music. OK, the food was out of this world. You order at the counter off of a gigantic chalk board that offers simple yet fresh and delicious tacos and sides - it's a taco joint - they nailed it. No need to complicate it. Try their queso and the jerk chicken taco. Rockin. The owner or mgr came out from the kitchen and helped the gal at the register and made sure everyone was attended to - by either serving cold draft brew or answering questions about the menu - excellent customer service. Period. Go here. Now. Seriously.

  • Mirasol M.

Wow... A great spot with a creative flavorful menu. It's all about the food here. Step 1- order at the counter and be greeted with a smile. Step 2- grab a seat indoor or outdoor place number on table. Step 3- enjoy your tacos and sides with a beverage Step 4- take photos of the trains passing by and enjoy your existence now knowing you've eaten a bite of heavens food. Thank you White duck taco!

Truly meets the high high praise. The fish tacos are perfect ....seriously. I love hot sauce so much and the flavor was too good to ruin it with the sauce. Also had a BBQ carnitas that was sweet...really delicious. Ask for their homemade hotsauce, but be prepared to have nothing left to put it on. I like that they serve Green Man IPA...and tecate!!!

Stopped in after hearing/reading a good deal about this place! I got a special mushroom and potato taco, while my sister got the bangin' shrimp taco. Both ere delicious, and there are plenty more tacos I would love to try. Great outdoors atmosphere Also, though crowded, SUPER fast to get food. word.

I long for this type of taco shop in a city near me!! My friend insisted we dine here, much to my dismay... and boy am I glad that I didn't resist! This place was an absolute gem!!! The spices and flavors used in each of the tacos were unlike anything my palate had experienced before in a taco! Between my friend and I we tried probably 10 different type of tacos and each and every one of them were delicious!! The vegetarian taco was my favorite - don't let "vegetarian" fool you, try it and I promise you will not be disappointed. It had more flavor than anything you could ever eat with meat! And let me just say this... I was not a fan of Asheville in general (I know, I'm a party of one here) but this restaurant makes me want to return to the city!!! If you are in the area don't pass this place up!

My husband and I were en route from Savannah, GA to Bryson City, NC passing through Asheville right around dinner time. I decided to search for restaurants in the area on Yelp and came upon White Duck Taco Shop. After reading several wonderful reviews and obtaining some great tips (the tacos come doubly wrapped- you can actually take the one and turn it into 2 tacos). Anyway, the taco shop is located in this Hatchery, which shares space with local artists. It's on the lower level. There wasn't a soul in there when we arrived right around 5pm, but soon after we placed our order and sat out on the deck, the people started arriving by the droves. So what did we order, you ask? Well, I couldn't help but order the duck tacos, since it is so prominently featured in the name of the restaurant. It came with a mole sauce and was terrific. I also tried the tofu Ban Mi which incorporated some great Asian flavors. My husband really liked his Bangkok shrimp tacos, which were crispy and packed with tangy flavor. We had the watermelon & mint salad which was extremely refreshing on this particularly hot day as well as some chips and queso sauce. All in all, it was a great find and a place I would highly recommend.

Great taco place with some interesting combinations. The Bangkok Shrimp and Korean Beef tacos are really good. Would be nice if they increased their beer selection since there are so many good breweries in Asheville. Great place to stop for a good quick bite.

I have eaten at a lot of taco places and this is one of the best! Good mix of choices and the daily special is always great. Parking can be a bit tough at the rush of lunch, but the line goes pretty fast.

  • Rachel K.

What a neat little area! Great, unique tacos. My husband had the jerk chicken tacos and I had the lump crab tacos which we both enjoyed. The menu is definitely different, offering everything from Thai peanut chicken to Korean bulgogi tacos. Service was friendly, and the area had ample indoor/outdoor seating.

The White Duck Taco Shop is in a very cool space in the River Arts District of Asheville. This counter service restaurant has outdoor picnic tables and an interior room with benches along the walls and some tables with chairs along the other side. They have a good selection of beers and maybe 10 types of tacos. After reading all of the reviews, I knew we should order the fish; so we did, along with two others. Bottom line, I wish we would have stuck with the fish! If that was all we had, I would have rated this place higher. Don't make the same mistake we did!

  • Elizabeth D.

I've now been here twice in my two visits to Asheville. Funky fun place which is much more fun to visit if you can sit outside. Great beer on tap and fresh margaritas. Tacos are cheap, $3.50 each and two is probably the right amount. We also got the queso dip which was mediocre, add hot sauce. The watermelon with mint side is delicious. I had the Vietnamese tofu which was so flavorful and the Korean beef which was sweet and salty. My companions raved about the buffalo chicken and the lamb gyro. The steak and cheese was ok but the others were better. Lines are long but worth it. Tip: get your tacos to go and head down the street to Wedge brewery to eat them outside with awesome beer.

  • Tiffany S.

I love taco shops. They are very popular right now. However, most of these type of places are lacking in flavor or something that I just can't put my finger on. I ordered the beef and cheese taco as well as the buffalo chicken. I can usually judge a place by their beef taco. Most places don't have very tender beef. That was not the case here! The meat just fell apart. But that's not all! There was just enough cheese and just enough spices and garnishings that it was perfect. The buffalo chicken taco was fantastic as well. The only thing I would have changed was maybe make the buffalo sauce spicier, but I love spicy food. The salsa trio that I split with my friend was amazing. The creamy salsa was my favorite, but the other 2 were great as well. I love the atmosphere and I cannot wait to go back.

  • Kris T.

Delicious! This is not an authentic taqueria, but instead a place to experiment with inventive takes on the humble taco. You can go traditional (carnitas; black beans), or mix it up with creative and very tasty inspirations. The bahn mi style tofu is exceptional: a thick piece of marinated tofu served with slightly sweet vinegar-based slaw. The fish taco is nicely done as well: white fish lightly fried (no breading) with a creamy cabbage slaw, topped with a fresh pico de gallo. I'm dying to try the duck confit with mole or the BBQ on my next trip. White Duck is quick and cheap, too. You can get two house tacos and a beverage for under $10. Their specialty tacos run a little higher, and extras like chips and salsa are paid for a la carte. With abundant outdoor seating, it's a perfect place for lunch. And I intend to take full advantage of it.

    (5)
  • Pat T.

Interesting and tasty selection of taco fillings -- the black bean and fish tacos were very good. Their cheese dip with taco chips was very tasty. It is a very casual place and fortunately it was warm enough to sit outside, otherwise seating during poor weather would be very limited. The wait staff were not overly friendly but OK -- sort of brusque and rushed. I would go back there for a quick and casual lunch.

    (4)
  • June S.

Worth the wait for the tacos - I love the variety that they offer. We always try to get a couple new ones and I'm always happy with the new selections.

  • Laura D.

I went there while visiting the town on a whim, and had the most amazingly flavored and perfectly portioned taco that I've had in a while. I had the Korean Beef, and it was divine. My friends had four different ones, and each one looked absolutely delicious. I think they cost a bit much, but then again, I'd be willing to buy them again, so perhaps they are priced just right...

A favorite! Great place to go with friends to chat and have fun with while you wait in line. The food is really good, the service is quick and, wonder of wonders in Asheville, it is consistent!

If I was a millionaire I'd buy this place, have it demolished, and then use the debris to construct a sculpture commemorating the excellent tacos they make.

  • JA K.

We had the shrimp tacos and beef/cheese- while the tacos were pretty tasty (and pricey), we were somewhat disappointed in the service. Business was slow, it was our first visit, and the chick at the register was hasty and unfriendly- very rushed when we had simple questions about the menu. Just disappointed in the service- we were looking forward to a better experience all the way around.

    (3)
  • Eric E.

We stopped for dinner and I had the fish taco and we split the jerk chicken. I liked the fish taco but felt it had too much crema and the cabbage was rather large pieces. I loved the jerk chicken which was tasty and spicy. The worst part of the experience was trying to figure out which taco to try since there were several delicious choices to choose off the menu.

    (4)
  • Jim S.

Simply put, some of the best tacos I have eaten. My wife and I split the fish, Bangkok shrimp, and the crab meat selections. Fresh, unique, wonderful melding of flavors. Under $20. We then toured the River Arts District, and can state, unequivocally, that some of the artist/owners are addicted to the restaurant. It is a dive, which added to the fun. We were told that another WDT opened up downtown, but the aficionados hang with the original. Good stuff.

  • John S.

We were driving back through Asheville from our trip to Raleigh and made a stop here for lunch. We had a little bit of late lunch and it was still relatively busy. All the seats outside were taken (it was a beautiful day out) but there was till plenty of seating inside. I got the jerk chicken, bangkok shrimp, and steak and cheese tacos. My favorite was the bangkok shrimp. It was super flavorful and delicious. I just want to warn you that the jerk chicken has a pretty good kick to it so if you don't like spicy, don't get this one. If you're looking for good tacos, this is definitely the place for you!

Loved this place! Gourmet Tacos are very poplar right now & this place does them right! I love the buffalo chicken and gyro, I found the BBQ Carnitas to be much too sweat. There is limited indoor seating but ample seating available outdoors at the picknick tables(with umbrellas). Cons: I love the outdoor seating but when the wind blows wrong, all you can smell is the dumpster. I found the dumpster's proximity to the seating to be off-putting. PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!!! The shop is located in a strange area and when there is not a crowd, the shop can easily be mistaken for a rundown house.

Very different. Great food and cheap Tecate. You may get forced to wait in the sun to get in the place as the line was out the door.

We gave WDT a second try the other day and I'm so glad we did! It was much better the second time around. All restaurants have bad days and I felt that may have been the case our first time around. I ordered the special which was a crab taco and also a steak and bangkok shrimp taco. My husband had the lamb taco, buffalo chicken taco, and steak taco. We also ordered some tasty queso dip. All of them were great but I especially loved the crab taco. It was served cold and topped with fried capers, which were the bomb. It was on the salty side but I think that's what made it so good. My husband really enjoyed the lamb taco. He referred to it as "amazeballs". However, I'm still not feeling the young lady up front. I'm not expecting a high five or anything but a smile and a "hi, how are you doing?" will suffice. We look forward to our future visits to White Duck!

  • Krista F.

This place is just about perfect. A few local beers on tap, delicious homemade margaritas, and tacos to die for. Standards like steak n cheese, but also jerk chicken, fish, crab, duck, bbq pork, thai chicken, etc. You get my drift. Also, the chips and queso is great. Fast service, indoor/outdoor seating (which means dogs are welcome), parking, authentic Asheville!

    (5)
  • Charlotte H.

I had high hopes after skimming through a dozen or so positive reviews, but I honestly don't get the appeal. My husband and I shared chips and queso and each got our own taco. The queso sucked, it wasn't spicy or flavorful or warm. My husband liked his shrimp taco and my black bean taco was okay, but not worth $3.

  • Emily H.

This place was recommended to us by the owner of a local art studio. It was AMAZING! Unbelievable tacos and plenty of vegetarian options including black bean, tofu and potato and mushroom. My fiance loved the Bangkok Shrimp. We may return to Asheville one day just to get these tacos again! Cute place--reminded me of something I'd find in Ausitn.

Decent "American" tacos, but this place is overrated. I went with high hopes on a friend's recommendation, and was rather unimpressed. I have eaten at countless Mexican taquerias that blow White Duck away. Good food, but doesn't live up to the hype.

Holy hand grenade - these were awesome tacos. My mom lives near Asheville and has been here several times. This time she took the whole family to introduce them. Everyone tried different things and most enjoyed their picks. I had the Fish and Bangkok Shrimp tacos. The shrimp was solid, but the fish changed my life. So good, and so exactly what a fish taco should taste like. We had chips and salsa on the side, I think the cashier upsold me but I am NOT sorry. We had more than enough salsa for the chips, in 3 varieties, and each was delicious. If you're in Asheville and craving tacos - STOP AT WHITE DUCK. PS Bonus points for rocking great music the whole time we were here. Coldplay, followed by Lumineers....

Came with a few friends after hearing about this place. Was misinformed that the name was the White Rabbit so that caused a bit of confusion. This place does spot on Mexican style tacos with some updated flair. You will not be disappointed.

Outstanding tacos. Hip, cool spot. Just about any taco on the menu is delicious. With creative items like Fried Chicken BLT and Bangkok shrimp, you'll never get bored with this place. Yum!

Stopped here randomly, not knowing anything about it, thinking it was just a typical to-go type taco shop. Walked in and was so impressed. There are at least 10 different kinds of tacos, and all of them are completely different. I got the shrimp taco and the steak and cheese. Both were so good... but let me tell you, the shrimp taco was by far one of the most delicious things I've ever tasted. Like actually. I can't even explain it. I finished the two and then had to talk myself out of getting two more ( I was already stuffed - just really wanted more!) I will be coming back here - probably too frequently for my own health, to try more.

  • Lindsey S.

Great taco shop with a good variety. I had the shrimp Bangkok, Thai chicken and black bean. The black bean was ok, but the other two were phenomenal. Chips were stale and I saw a worker dump the whole tub out - I wish she would have refreshed our basket of chips that we had received minutes earlier.

First off, I love the location in the up and coming River Arts District in Asheville. Second, these gourmet tacos are packed full off flavor but are only a fraction of the price! I've been here several times on my own and I've even taken clients here. I would recommend trying several different tacos and the cheese dip is a must! But get here early, the line can become really long and space is limited.

This is one of our favorite new restaurants "finds" while traveling. The tacos are not like any Mexican tacos you may have eaten before. They are make creatively with fresh and interesting ingredients. I had a crab taco and the jerk chicken taco I found taste buds that I didn't know existed. We enjoyed large portions and if it hadn't been so good we would have had extra to take home with us that night to our cabin. As it was, we stuffed ourselves and resisted licking our fingers. Sure wish they had a restaurant like this at home! And did I mention that the price was amazing!

Great Tacos with a very casual setting. Pet friendly which is always a plus. We will definitely come back to this place if we are ever in Asheville again. I got the steak and cheese tacos and my wife had the thai peanut chicken taco. Both were extremely delicious and unique. You wont regret your visit here.

The menu at White Duck Taco is one of the most fun and eclectic I've seen in a taco shop. The duck, crab salad, and shrimp tacos were terrific and the watermelon/mint side was refreshing on the first hot day of summer--the peach sangria was also cooling and delicious. The traffic flow to order your food isn't great--i.e. it does't flow, and it is much more likely that you will sit outside rather than inside, but the outdoor view is of trains, the river, the mountains and some really great tagging in the parking lot. I'll be back!

Right off of I-26. If you are driving by and looking for a great local gem, eat here!!! We were on the interstate and saw this place on yelp. We tried the Bangkok Shrimp, Thai Peanut Chicken and Fish Taco with the salsa trio. Everything was very flavorful and tasty. Our server said we chose the most popular items. The outdoor picnic tables were nicely shaded with umbrellas. The service was friendly and quick. Will stop here next time we are near Asheville. You might miss the entrance because the only sign is the white duck. The door faces the picnic area. Enjoy!

Just wow. This place is tucked into a little... shack?... on the side of a hill, and looks quite unassuming, but man, they make some great tacos. Made on fresh corn tortillas the combinations they have come up with are unique and so tasty. Shrimp tempura taco? Yes please! Very friendly too. Definitely try this place.

I'm an out of towner visiting Asheville and was brought here by a friend that now lives there. They have great tacos. I had the buffalo chicken which was fantastic. The breading was crunchy on the chicken and is something that I enjoy. I also had the jerk chicken taco. That one was a little less impressive, it was a little too heavy in the allspice (in my opinion) and too sweet. I've been to Jamaica many times and love traditional Jerk which is knock your socks off spicy and not sweet at all, so I have pretty high expectations for anything "jerk". I don't generally care for corn tortillas either but theirs was great. I'd like to know if they make them or where they get them at because I would eat those corn tortillas. I also liked the eclectic atmosphere of the restaurant as well. I'll be back when I visit Asheville again.

My first time here today and I have to say these three tacos were the best ever!!! Of course these are Americanized tacos, but none the less fantastic!! I got one shrimp taco, which was to die for. One steak and cheese taco which was deeeeeelicious, and for my grand finale I got a lamb gyro taco! Holy Vatican City was that last taco AHmazing!!!! It's a good thing I took my tacos to go, if not may have bought a fourth or fifth or even sixth taco!! The very good looking cashier told me the average person will usually get two tacos, but my three were perfect amount. Thanks beautiful cashier woman! Needless to say I super uber recommend this taco place to anyone who loves tacos!!!

I'll just chime in here and agree that this place is amazing. I ordered the Bangkok shrimp taco and the lamb gyro. My boyfriend had a fish taco and the jerk chicken. All were awesome. The place is nice and laid back, but still efficient. I will absolutely be back. In fact, I might go back as soon as I finish this review. And for out of town visitors, the patio appears to be very dog friendly. There were probably six dogs hanging out there, hopefully enjoying the occasional amazing table dropping. It would be cruel to taunt any living being with the wonder of a White Duck taco and not share.

As a native Austinite (TX), I'm skeptical of even taco shops in central mexico. White Duck dishes out the real deal. 7 bucks gets you a 2 huge tasty morsels of fine fine taco. Don't be dissuaded by the nay-sayers. Their mole (seasonal) is even stellar. This puts them in my infinite grace. Keep it up Duck!

On our way through Ashville we stopped to try this taco shop. The service was wonderful. Love the decor. The tacos were them most flavorful i have ever had. So many choices and the prices were great!! The chef really knows what she is doing. We liked it so much that we returned through town JUST to eat here again.

We had already left the river arts district by the time we were ready for lunch and were intrigued enough by the menu to drive back there. It seemed like a good alternative to a sit-down lunch place and a step above fast food. In fact it vastly exceeded our expectations. Tacos here are non traditional: eg the gyro tacos are made with Greek-style yogurt sauce. The jerk chicken and fish tacos were both amazing. And the watermelon salad perfectly ripe. As we were preparing to leave we asked the co-owner where to get an espresso nearby. After giving us a few options he offered to brew us a cup on the house. We offered payment and he refused and, in fact, insisted we take 1/4 lb of the beans from his personal stash. Such genuine hospitality and enthusiasm for food and drink are rare indeed.

I grew up in Asheville, so I know how good the food is here. It will be organic, locally sourced, and prepared by a seasoned cook with a fresh and innovative twist. that is exactly what you find at the White Duck Taco Shop. The building itself has seen better days. It is located right next to the railroad tracks by the French Broad River and the area itself looks almost as desolate as District 12 from the Hunger Games. But don't let appearances fool you, this area is the thriving River Arts District full of amazing art, beer and food. The only way you would know that the forlorn building you are looking at is a taco shop is by the white duck flag that hangs outside. Enter, and you a transported to a world of smells that will make your mouth water. On the chalkboard menu about the register are creations that will transport you from the cantinas of Mexico, to the street markets of Greece and Korea. I ordered a Mexican style taco with beef and cheese and a Korean bulgogi taco with kimchi and avacado puree. My girlfriend got a Greek style lamb gryo taco and a Bankok shrimp taco. We also got an order of chips and queso. The chips and queso were amazing, and the tacos themselves were mind blowing. The flavor profiles of each individual taco were so unique and everything worked perfectly together. I didn't think I would be full after only 2 tacos and some nachos but I was, although I would be remiss if I said I didn't crave more. This taco shop beats out some of the most authentic Mexican restaurants I've been to when it comes to tacos. A must eat in a town of must eats!

after my review in yelp, i received a thoughtful response from the owner that stated "Justin, Please accept my apology for your experience at the Taco Shop. We are very aware of the fly problem and are taking steps to address it. As background, when we opened the restaurant we thought we would be environmentally responsible by composting and paying a 3rd party service to take the compost (and recycling). They missed the pickup for a full week, and usually picked it up three times every week. In that time the fly problem got much worse. We no longer use that company, have hired a pest control company, and moved our dumpster and other waste receptacles further away from the restaurant. These steps are beginning to control the problem. That being said, there is no excuse on our part to justify anything less than an enjoyable experience on your part, and for that I apologize. If you'd like to return to the restaurant we will be glad to comp your group of three a meal (no alcohol). Please lut us know. Regards, Ben & Laura"

I must admit I am a bit biased, my cousin is a half owner of this restaurant. However, nepotism aside, this place is awesome! Most of their delicious tacos are only 3.25 each (two is very filling) and are available with a variety of ingredients such as jerk chick, fish, carnality, and a lamb gyro. The tacos are served on two corn tortillas, so as the ingredients fall out onto your plate, you can make a second taco (two for the price of one!) While at the restaurant i also sample the two different times of salsa (roasted peppers and a salsa verde) as well as a cream based spicy sauce. My husband and I also tried the queso dip, which I highly recommend as an appetizer. The dip was creamy and cheesy, and puts the prepacked stuff you can get at chain restaurants to shame. Finally, to wet you whistle, the restaurant offers two local beers on tap, glasses of wine, and Tecate.

Great food , great ambience! So happy we found this gem and you will be to! Fish taco, jerk chicken taco were so yummy as was the sangria. We visited on a really beautiful January day so we sat outside at one of the picnic tables which was great since there is very little indoor seating. Expect a line but it will move quickly and the service is great. Sketchy area (we were sure we had put the wrong address in the GPS just before we arrived) but safe and lots of parking.

One of our favorite lunch spots. Fantastic chips and queso, fresh fruity sangria, a wonderful assortment of tacos, and great outdoor seating. Our favorites are the Thai shrimp tacos, the fish tacos, and the classic steak tacos.

Quirky, eclectic, youthful, popular with great food. Wasn't sure what to expect driving up. But, they know what they're doing here. We had chips and 3 salsa basket, black bean taco and steak and cheese plus the caramel macaroon pie. Tasty for me but my wife lived it.

Small place but also has plenty of outdoor seating For when it's warmer. When my boyfriend and I walked in every table was filled. Right after we placed our order a table opened up. We sat down immediately was given our starter and not too long after our tacos. We asked the guy at the counter how many tacos we should order and he was spot on with two each. Amazing and very creative flavors. Love that they put two tortillas on each taco to prevent them from ripping apart. Great prices, everything is ala carte. Loved their top shelf margarita. I can't wait to go back to try different combinations.

It's hard to explain how amazing, unique and absolutely delicious this place is. Get the roasted duck tacos with apple cranberry salsa. The flavor hits you in layers and each one is better than the last. The duck falls apart in your mouth it's so tender. I also got the jerk chicken taco which blew me away too. I tried a bite of my buddies and there wasn't anything that didn't completely floor me. If you're in Asheville make this a must!

To say this place is addictive would be an understatement. Seriously - we will probably have to take out a second mortgage just to pay for more Bangkok Shrimp tacos. Which is impressive, because they are shockingly not expensive. For only $3.50, I can buy the most interesting combination of flavors that has ever partied in my mouth. I used to think tacos were just this basic Mexican dish that existed for those of us who didn't want to be overly full. White Duck has elevated the humble taco, and now it's a destination. One my mouth wants to travel to every day. Oh, sure - they have tons of other flavor combinations on the board, and I've tried one or two of them. Once I bit into the Bangkok Shrimp Taco, all others receded into the mists and I simply had to have another. The crispy shrimp all nestled under the cool cucumbers is so tasty, I have to force myself to put the taco down in between bites. People, seriously - I dislike corn tortillas, but these tacos are so good, they even make me like the tortillas!!! From my understanding, there are two locations, but I've only ever been to the one in the RAD. I like to sit outside, and they have these lovely painted picnic tables with umbrellas, which are simply perfect for enjoying tacos and ice water. The people who work there are really nice, the menu is easy to read, and nothing is expensive. If I could eat anything and never gain weight, I would be there every day for lunch AND dinner. If you want the best party in your mouth you've ever experienced, get yourself to White Duck ASAP. And, if there's a line, trust me - it's worth the wait.

My girlfriend and I stumbled upon this place sometime last year, but it was a Sunday and they were closed. This time, we recently had the chance to be in Asheville on a Monday so we managed to try out this place for dinner. We were in for a treat. All of the tacos are very unique! I had the Spicy Buffalo Chicken and Thai Chicken Peanut tacos. Everything on the menu is a la carte, but two tacos make a decent-size meal. My girlfriend had the Thai Chicken Peanut and Duck with Mole tacos. We ordered some chips and salsa to share. Just the right size for a great dinner. The Thai Chicken Peanut taco was amazing and had small chunks of mango within its tropical dressing which was sweet. The sweetness of the dressing along with the peanut sauce was such a delicious combination. The Spicy Buffalo Chicken taco was great as well! Straightforward spiciness with the right amount of kick to it! The chips came with three different kinds of sauces: salsa, salsa verde (made with tomatillos, and some sort of pink sauce I can't remember the name of at the time. All three of them are full of flavor and have to be tried if you've never had salsa verde or the other one. Needless to say, White Duck is worth multiple visits whenever you come to Asheville. If you love Latin fusion, this hip place is for you!

Whoa, whoa, WHOA!! If you are a taco person, you will go bonkers for this place. My husband and I went over a week ago now, and have mentioned it at least every day since then. Incredible selection of the most interesting tacos. We ordered six different tacos to share and loved every single one of them. I wish we had more room to try them all! If we lived in Asheville, I would be here all the time! I think my favorite was the Korean beef taco, or maybe the pulled pork BBQ... Or maybe the duck? The buffalo chicken was pretty unique as well. Awesome spot. A must-try when you're in Asheville!

White Duck Taco Shop is my soul mate. Period. If you try to swing by on a Sunday after driving a billion hours to get to Asheville, you will mourn a thousand deaths, as it will be devastatingly closed... After recovering from the heart break, we found our way back to the taqueria upon returning from an 8 mile hike and were starving. Which is the best way to go to this joint. Even in off-hours (3pm on a Monday), there was a line out the door, but the service moves quickly and you get to oogle taco after glorious taco as you agonize over your decision about what to order. The salsa trio is a MUST. It comes with a salsa verde, a traditional red salsa and a sour cream based salsa - all perfect for mixing and matching, piling on your tacos, or shoveling in your mouth as is. The Lamb Gyro taco might have been my favorite of the day (but really, how do you choose?). It came topped with nearly a brick of feta. We also enjoyed the Bangkok Shrimp, the Bulgogi and the Jerk Chicken. FINALLY a New American Fusion Taqueria in the South doing it RIGHT! Oh, how I have missed you since leaving the West Coast!!!

Love the imaginative taco varities! Too many to choose from, but luckily they are inexpensive so I can try several each time. We make sure to stop every time we are in Ashville. This is one of the places that my wife would visit every day we are in town if I'd let her.

Awesome tacos. Bangcock shrimp. Thai peanut chicken. Korean beef. All perfectly prepared with just the right amount of veggies and sauce. Absolutely delicious. Absolutely worth going out of your way. Tacos are about $3.50 each. Order 2-3 pp. The sign on the building says the hatchery.

This place is AWESOME and I would definitely return on my next visit to Asheville. It has a totally indie, local, homemade vibe to it, an interesting menu, low prices, great food and a fabulous patio outside. I had chips with the salsa trio, one thai chicken peanut taco and one steak and cheese taco. All were delicious. I even bought a shirt. I totally drank the White Duck Kool Aid. Highly recommended.

Super neat place tucked away near a train track. Order your tacos and then sit out at a picnic table and moments later they appear. We shared the buffalo chicken (exactly how you'd expect it, spicy and blue cheese funky), the duck (awesome, fresh, soft and cranberries/apples added crunch), the Thai peanut chicken (can't miss), the steak (standard and serviceable), shrimp (fried battered shrimp w a curry mayo and curry pickles - I would've skipped this one had I known) and the jerk chicken (tasted like all clove, one bite and I wished I had taken any bites). The pot de creme was delicious - cinnamon whipped cream on top, crunchy layer between and thick smooth chocolate on bottom. This is the sort of place you'd see on cooking channel for sure. If I'm back in Asheville, I would eat here again.

Delicious! We had the molé duck, fish, buffalo chicken, and the bang kock shrimp. Molé duck is different but really good! But fish tacos I've had in a while. The fish had a very unique flavor.

Delicious tacos, and really wonderful fresh interesting ingredients. This is definitely on the list of a very "Asheville" place to go... Good food, a little quirky and very casual. It's somewhere I take people who come in to visit all the time. It's also a very well run machine. When you come in and see a really long line you think "Oh no this isn't good." But I'll tell ya, they move people in and out fast and often times you sit down and just seconds later your taco shows up, and it is tasty delicious! Go, sit outside, grab a beer, a couple tacos and you'll be a happy camper!

After all the old reviews, my partner and I were excited to come here for a little lunch date. At the counter, I asked for a recommendation and the girl taking my order couldn't have seemed less excited about the options. Pretty off-putting. We ordered the fish taco, the bahn mi tofu, and the mushroom potato tacos, as well as the chips and queso and southwestern soup. The soup was good, and so were the chips, although Lucky Otter has better queso. The fish taco was pretty bland, the tofu was OK, but the mushroom taco was DISGUSTING. I find it pretty hard to make mushrooms taste gross, but White Duck achieved it. We won't be back.

Delicious, creative tacos, small space. Four of us went to White Duck Taco on a dark, chilly Saturday night. You wait in line to place your order, get a number, then find a table. Since it was our first visit, we didn't realize we were taking a bit of a chance of dining outside on chilly night. Luckily a table opened up, and the food quickly came. We had orders of fish tacos, gyro tacos, shrimp tacos, and duck tacos. Everyone loved their tacos, they were a great value, and if we come back to Asheville, we'll go again (if the weather is nice).

Bottom Line - Absolutely worth going out of your way to try, but just being friendly and hip doesn't make for 5 star tacos. This is the Golden Age of American "Taco Shops, Stands, and Trucks". Every decent size city has or will have a hipster taco venture going by now. They will be attempted by enthusiastic and well-meaning food folks of varying experience, bankroll and skill. Some will be folks with great palates and no business sense. Some their mirror images. Most with a litle of each going on. For every Roy Choi, there will be dozens of people who believe that they can do what he has done - Some will actually kill it. Some will end up opening great places and good places that do okay..some will open pretty good places that set the woods on fire. Monetary succcess aside, one thing is certain - marrying authentic complex and balanced classic flavors and ingredients to make non-traditional tacos worth $3.50 - $7.00 a piece takes a focused and every-single-day effort that won't be satisfied or made soporific by some good reviews and a nice Xmas bonus. We were taken to the White Duck Taco Shop by friends who had been there before. We waited in the line (apparently there's usually a line) made it inside the building (closing the door behind us), and got ready to order. They were temporarily out of the shrimp tacos our host had been raving about. But the menu was filled with what looked to be creative and delicious taco and side dish items. Mrs. Honey ordered the roasted mole duck with cranberry apple salsa taco and the Korean beef taco with avocado crema. I had a lamb and feta taco, a jerk chicken taco, and I couldn't resist ordering one of the duck tacos as well. We both ordered margaritas ($7). Our hosts ordered chips with three salsas and some "queso". The margaritas are served in a salt rimmed Mason jar, made from Cuervo Gold, and are pretty damn tasty good. The chips were good chips. The trio of salsas and the queso were...kinda good. The salsas were kinda flat and Queso is a Tex-Mex classic that, whatever encarnation we're talking about, really needs to be more generously served. And just a little deeper therein lies El Rub. Long before the current taco craze there were and still are Mexican taquerias in America serving perfect multi-protein tacos (pork parts, beef parts, fish, shrimp, chicken ...) and salsas of many different colors, flavors and heat levels. They're all over the place if you look where Mexican prople live (or live in Cali) and their prices are much cheaper than their collective hipster cousins. When you order El Pastor in these places it's gonna be real pineapple glazed El Pastor, Baja style will really be Baja style or they won't have it on the menu. The staples; carne asada, pollo asada, carnitas, ceviche, agua fresca et al. will all solidly rock because those things are classic and specific and they know exactly what they are and how they should taste. When you go to White Duck and others like it, you will read that you're gonna be eating "Korean Beef Bulgogi", "Mole", "Jerk", "Satay"..and these things exist in absolute realities as well. If any of the versions arrive as watered down interpretations or are paired with things that really don't go with or improve on them - it can come as a major let down. You gotta start with carefully prepared proteins and sauces that for real represent their best origins, if you're gonna use their classic names as bait. Now, I'm not saying that there isn't room for taco interpretation or fusion, but you just don't go around putting mayo on pastrami and you don't drown roasted duck with mole in apple cranberry salsa - even if it's really good salsa. Roasting crispy skin duck and making good Moles are arts in-and-of themselves - cebolla blanco and semilla sesame being served with Mole Negro isn't a traditional afterthought. KimChee goes with Korean Beef for a reason that avocado crema does not. Jerk is a deeply hot, course, herb-and bark rich sauce, not a flavor - and people who love Jerk know the difference and people who don't know it should have it ...if it's called "Jerk". That all having been said, the lamb and feta "taco" we had was absolutely awesome - balanced, with the right amount of salt (a thoughtful amount of salt is important in tacos) and a great yoghurt sauce ...truly awesome. . One last thing, if there's likely to be a line - having to go through it again to order a second and third round of drinks is crazy. If White Duck is gonna have a line most of the time, they need a way for folks who are eating to have a Speedpass to more drinks when they want them - or they should have somebody selling drinks to the people in line right? I think tacos that are this expensive need to literally explode and sing to you on their way to your belly stomach. This is a great place but there is such a thing as a taco that's a bistle too arty. The River Arts District is gonna be gentrified soon enough.

Great food. I took a customer out to lunch and had Thai Peanut, Jamaican Jerk and Greek lamb tacos and was very impressed. They have a really nice area to sit outside and room inside as well. The place gets crowded around 1230 so it may be difficult to find a spot outside. Parking in an odd commercial District adds to the ambience of the location.

Amazing tacos! If I lived in Asheville, I would be here daily. There are numerous choices, so it is hard to decide. After a few moments of staring at the chalkboard menu, I sampled the duck taco (it is called White Duck Taco) and it was very good. The mole sauce puts it over the top, and the apple cranberry salsa was very flavorful and brought out the duck. My favorite taco however, was the carnitas! It is not one the regular daily menu, but it should be! The pork was good to perfection and the bbq sauce was amazing, and then you put it in a taco with a delicious slaw? You can't beat that!

This is a great stop after an afternoon of poking around the galleries in the River Arts District. They have a pretty extensive menu of specialty tacos. I had the grilled fish with chipotle crema and they were delicious. Their peach sangria was out of this world. I would give it five stars except it was very stuffy inside on a warmish day, and the entry is a bit of a cluster--there are clumps of confusion among people with competing goals: to order, to study the menu, or to leave.

Wow.....I heard they were good but they were much more. This place does some business, so if you don't want to wait in line, I suggest going during off times...like not a lunch or dinner time, but just slightly before and after. I had the Bangkok shrimp tacos and the Fish Tacos...both REALLY good. Through in $2 Tecate beers in a can and you can get a real deal food wise and still have some coin in your pocket when it is all said and done. Also, when WALK in West Asheville is having their $1.50 taco nights and are pack...WDT is my back up when I don't want to wait in line at WALK as they are usually not as busy. FYI...chips and dip are also good.

Surprised by the negative reviews. We stopped by for a very light lunch to try them out and only ordered one taco each. They were both an explosion of flavors. The place reminds me of Ben and Jerry's back when they started in an old gas station in Burlington, VT. I had the Bangkok shrimp taco. The small fried shrimp reminded me of the bang bang shrimp at the Bonefish Grill. It was served with cucumbers and greens with a sweet Asian dressing. Seemed a little sweet at first, but combined with the soft taco to tone it down, it was a wonderful balance of complex flavors. My wife had the lamb gyro taco and it tasted like everything a gyro should be. The feta, taziki, lamb and greens virtually exploded with flavor. Wish we had more time to try the other combos.

LOVE!! We had the duck mole, banh mi tofu, Korean bugogli, and, the best of all, the pork belly! The only thing that I would have liked more is if they had been in flour tortillas.

What can I say that hasn't been said? WDTS is a funky little spot, geared towards a laid-back local-leaning crowd. Upon arrival, you walk up and order at the register. The menu (chalkboard above registers) is pretty easy to decipher and the food is relatively inexpensive (given the location as well as the creativity and ingredients used). The cashier was fine with processing my free soft drink coupon via the Yelp mobile app. Thanks Yelp! We arrived slightly before twelve on a lovely fall Friday. Diner traffic was steadily increasing as we ate. So be prepared for a wait in line if you arrive around High Noon on a lovely day. They feature ocal microbrews on tap (of course), so this is a great spot for cheap yet delicious tacos and a pitcher with friends, especially on their spacious and scenic patio when the weather is nice. I had the mole duck taco (an up charge but still reasonably priced around 5 bucks) and the Bangkok shrimp taco in the $3 range. Both were excellent! We also tried the queso and chips. I'm not a big queso lover, but this was on the upper end, with a smattering of mild peppers. I will definitely try to hit White Duck next time we are in Asheville and recommend you do the same!

For five stars I think you need to be more than a funky taco place. That aside it was great. Corn tortillas double wrapped. Big variety from kimchi to feta cheese. Be prepared to park in a public lot. I'm sure someone gets lucky and parks up front, just not us.

The food was excellent! We tried 7 different types of tacos. The thai taco was my favorite.

The service at the counter was horrible. The girl was so rude I almost wanted to leave. No good vibes amongst co workers! Fish taco is always good. The special crab taco $6 was not great!

Best tacos I've ever had. Don't come here expecting refried beans and hamburger tacos. These are super creative artsy fartsy tacos sold for a moderate price per taco. First visit I ordered the Jamaican Jerk Chicken taco and the Roasted duck in mole sauce. WOW. The Jamaican jerk taco was about 1/3 of a chicken breast that was sweet and a little hot. Very flavorful. Topped with fresh pickled red cabbage that offered extra texture and moisture, this taco went down VERY easy. The roast duck in mole sauce was a dream to see and eat. Topped with chopped cranberries it was well balanced and super moist. Came back a day later and had a Bangkok Shrimp taco + another roast duck mole. The Thai shrimp was phenomenal. The generous pile of shrimp were encrusted in a paper thin and super crunchy sesame seed batter and fried. They were resting on a generous serving of thick aioli. Topped off with fresh sweet pickled cucumber slices. The bite is super crunchy with those nuggets of shrimp and complimented with the bright and juicy cucumber slices. Heavenly. The roast duck mole taco today was the same as the day before. Consistency... now that is NICE !! Great atmosphere. Dog friendly. Wanted a t-shirt but they sold out :-( I'd wear it with pride in Seattle!

Just Ok. Went a couple of times. Gringo tacos. To be fair, as a native Californian, I have strong opinions about tacos. The atmosphere is nice. Like their outdoor patio for sure.

Good food. Girl behind the counter is very rude hence the deductions. Other than her I would recommend you go.

Took an out of town friend here who was visiting me in a nearby city. The setting is really basic, almost looks like chipotle but no no no no it is not. They serve really unique and delicious tacos that is causing my mouth to water even though I ate the tacos a week ago! We got 4 (okay maybe 5) tacos with chips, salsa, and queso. Chips were salty, perfect, and delicious! Queso and salsa were fresh and delightful. We ordered the Baka fish taco, Korean bbq, watermelon and pork belly, carnitas, and duck and mole. I mean how much cooler can you get with a taco?? My favs were Korean bbq and duck mole. Maybe just go and order one of everything, because that's my plan the next time I go. These tacos literally hugged my stomach lovingly.

Got the fish taco. It had some heat, if you can handle moderate spicy, it's a good find!!! Spicy fish with tangy sauce made a nice compliment. Ate outside with my dog. There were four other dogs in outside eating area. Nice for warm weather!

I was so excited to try this place as I had heard so many rave reviews about it, but was sorely disappointed by my meal. We each had two tacos. One of mine was chicken mole, which is literally one of my favorite foods, but it was tasteless and the taco shell was cold and tasted uncooked!! The other was pork with slaw, and it too was underwhelming. My better half who is half Mexican said his food was just garbage. We left disappointed and will never return. There is a small taco shop in the front of the Grey Eagle? That is absolutely delicious. I will stick with it. Small, unassuming and badass.

A Very unique place in the outskirts of Asheville. I'm glad that I did my restaurant reviews and came across White Duck Taco Shop. My wife and I each ordered 2 tacos. I had the Korean bulgogi and Thai shrimp tacos. The wife had the duck with mole sauce and jerk chicken tacos. They were all extremely delicious. Food prices are very reasonable for the quality of good. Highly recommended to anyone who visits Asheville.

Bring an appetite and go on a nice day because sitting outside is great. It's hard to add much to what has been written. I tried carnitas, gyro, and Thai chicken (just to be thorough). It's pretty standard service. You plant yourself and your number somewhere and the staff finds you. I recommend going as close to 11:30 as possible since by 12 the line is out the door and the service slows to half speed. Stil they don't stint on their ingrediants. I recommend 2 for lunch. With 3 I kind of waddled to the car.

Have to say we really enjoyed our lunch at White Duck Taco. While perusing the yelp reviews for awesome places to stop for something different on Yelp, we decided on White Duck Taco! My (2) small complaints - it was hot as hell in the place, and there were a ton of flies in the dining area. Nobody wants to fight off flies while consuming their amazing tacos, seriously guys get with it. Ok onto the food, let's just say if it were up to me I'd give them 6 stars on the tacos, the tortillas were delish! I had the Bahn Mi Tofu, and the Mushroom Romesco, both that were chalk full of a flavor punch that satisfied my curiosity for truly unique tacos. The beau had Steak & Cheese, Beef Bulgogi, and his fave the Duck & Mole. Kudos on the creativity guys these tacos are fun, festive and full of flavor. We had a Cheerwine in the bottle to finish it off, and left with full tummies as happy campers. Please guys, cool it down in there, and get rid of the flies :)

What a great place to have lunch on a pretty day. Indoor and covered outdoor seating. Delicious tacos. Popular place so expect to wait in a line. Tacos we're unique and delicious!

One of the most consistent restaurants in Asheville. I love the bangkok shrimp taco and the steak/cheese taco! We always order margaritas which are amazing! I love eating outside and enjoying the amazing food and drinks.

Excellent service, fun atmosphere, but the taco combinations were a little too interesting for my taste buds. Everything looked delicious though.

We have been here twice now and will continue to make it a must-stop restaurant when we are in Asheville. Love the variety of tacos. Great flavors. The only reason I have it 4 stars instead of 5 is that they really don't have any kid options. You just pick whatever taco type you think your kids won't scrunch their noses up at. Luckily our 3 are adventurous eaters so it wasn't a problem. If the White Duck folks were open to suggestions, I'd say at least offer a bean and cheese quesadilla or taco at a reduced price, say $2.50 instead of $3.45, for kids.

The taco's are state-of-the art, from Thai curry to my favority, the Lamb gyro. The special taco's are also awesome, try the duck. Great outdoor seating, and you can roll up and get 2 tacos and a beer (tecate) for $9.

Delicious!! Best tacos I've had in many years. Service was great and very fast. Gotta try the fish taco and Bangkok shrimp.

Had I not known White Duck received an average of 4.5 stars on Yelp, maybe I would not have been as non-plussed as I was. While the menu's descriptions of the tacos easily trigger salivation, the execution fell a bit flat. It was a bad sign when we learned that the staff-recommended shrimp taco uses "baby" shrimp, which in my book is taboo for any self-respecting establishment. The buffalo chicken and the fish tacos were ok but not great. Between the two, the fish was better. The salsa trio with chips was ok but not exceptional. The corn chowder was nothing special and redundant bite after bite. A small cup would have been adequate- the large bowl was too much monotony. For dessert, the salted caramel macaroon was poorly described and turned out to be overpriced ($4.75). Its presentation consisted of nothing more than a pot of cold caramel colored custard. While the food was edible, my experience here was nothing special. When I come to Asheville, I am trying to frantically check off places I want to go or to which I need to return. Unfortunately, not much about White Duck provided me with memorable incentives to want to come back.

The food is simple, but excellent. I ordered the Bangkok Shrimp, Tofu Bahn Mi and Korean Beef taco. I should have stopped at two, as the tacos were more than filling, but it was too damn delicious. This will most certainly be on my lost to stop in at when I pass through ashville again.

Had a large group and stopped by day after Thanksgiving. Great area that seems to be the new hot spot in Asheville so good to visit. The line stretched out a good bit and we did luckily get a good spot outside. The inside looked cramped and was pretty cold. The outside was nice and had a decent view. I don't think there was free chips. My wife took the order and that is what she said. Hate when a Mexican place does not give free chips. Free Chips would have easily added a star to this review. We ordered Banh Mi tofu and Fish Tacos. I liked the Banh Mi but it needed more sauce to bring out flavor. I added the sauce. But the fish Tacos were just bad. We had 4 of the 6 at the table try them and all of them just left them after a bite or two. The ambiance outside was great, probably due to the weather and I expected much better after all the positive Yelp reviews but pretty much a disappointment for our group. Free salsa and a better fish taco will go a long way to changing my mind if I make it back to Asheville. May have just had a bad day since it was right after Thanksgiving.

Food was good! Would definitely eat here again; however, don't go in the summer unless you're immune to heat and humidity. Whether inside or outside it was blazing hot. The fact that we have an infant probably didn't help the cause.

We came at a great time! Shrimp tacos and Korean tacos were the best! Our 13/year old loved the steak and cheese. We'll definitely be back!

This is a 4.5 star taco experience! Yes it is partially because I just had awesome tacos sitting at a picnic table under a stellar autumn Carolina Blue sky whilst sipping a GreenMan IPA... But in my own defense: 1. Ordering inside in front of a chalkboard from a very friendly guy who was happy to give recommendations... 2. Aforementioned picnic table et al 3. Awesome tacos!!!!!! Chicken was spicy and crispy and the salsa and veggies were super fresh! Fish taco was superb for the same reasons. Bright Flavors not over fried. Currently waiting on a to go order to haul back to Charlotte for supper!! Check it out and eat up y'all!!!

Delicious tacos, wish the menu was a little more extensive with regard to sides. Finally made it in here after a year of intending to. The two tacos I had were pretty delicious, although I get the feeling I could make them myself pretty easily. Service was quick and friendly, so certainly can't complain there. I just wish there was a bit more for sides on the menu. Some kind of combo deal would be nice, like a taco, a side and a drink or something. All they had today was kimchee and black beans, and I wasn't really feeling either one of those.

This place is worth the wait...which was only 15 minutes. Reasonably priced to have a variety of unique taco flavors. Our group ordered fish, steak and cheese, duck, Thai peanut, Bangkok shrimp. Tacos were fantastic with each having a different salsa topping. Terrific! Black beans were good and it was great to see watermelon and mint "salad". A MUST go to lunch spot.

Stopped in for lunch about 12:45 and joined the line that was about 10 deep inside and another 10 out the door. Luckily, it moved quick and we were ordering in about 15 minutes. Really appreciated the complexity of flavor profiles. I had the mole roasted duck with cranberry/apple salsa, crema, and some fresh greens...my favorite of the day. Also had the Thai peanut chicken...chicken should have been chunks or shredded to absorb the sauce more but flavors were there. My wife had the jerk chicken and Bangkok shrimp. She wasn't crazy about the jerk chicken...mainly because the flavor of the slaw. Tortillas were better than most. Overall, great place to try for unique meal for reasonable price.

I had high hopes for this place, given all the positive reviews. Definitely non traditional tacos which is fine with me if the food is good, but I feel like White Duck didn't deliver what I had hoped. I tasted the Duck, Korean Beef, Thai peanut, Fish and Chicken. The duck was the best by far. Thai peanut was very sub par and the others were just ok. The atmosphere and location were great and the service was fast. Next time I'm in the area I would try somewhere else first but wouldn't be opposed to come back if I were meeting a friend or something like that.

The tacos were great and the beer on tap complimented them perfectly. I had the fish and the Gyro and both had some great flavors. I had the Son of a peach from RJ Rockers brewing company.

Seriously, this is a MUST HAVE if you ever find yourself in Asheville, NC! Such robust flavors, incredible variety and an awesome vibe! The Bangkok Shrimp, Fish and Lamb Gyro tacos were particularly delicious but you really can't go wrong at this gem!

This place was voted number 1 for best cheap lunch and number 1 for best taco, so I had to give it a try. Took the whole fam: mom, dad and brother, to try this place for lunch yesterday. I had the mushroom and potato special, my mom had a steak and cheese, dad had the lamb gyro and shrimp, and my brother had the shrimp and the fish tacos. Everyone was a fan of their meal. For the guys, they could have ordered more, but i was satisfied with my one taco and the salsa trio we all shared. The tacos, while smaller, come with two tortillas, so I pushed some of my stuffing into the other shell to make two tacos. Mom followed my lead and was very happy with her lunch as well. My brother said that the fish taco was "effing delicious" so I'll def need to go back and try it. I had a bite of the lamb and while I stick mostly to fish or chicken, it was quite tasty. Looking forward to going back and trying other items on the menu, like their macaroon pie and margarita.

Very disappointed. Nothing special at all, I've had so many tacos that are 100x better than these. Also, th place was very dingy needed to be cleaned. Don't waste your money. There are so many more better places to eat in Asheville! We will not return.

Oooooooo boy...I've been lusting after this place since it opened and finally I was able to visit it today. It met all of my expectations. Deliciously fresh tacos. I had the Thai peanut and it was perfect. Not too heavy and not too light. The tortilla was SO tasty. This place is very relaxed being at the River Art District. Great place to bring your pooch and sit outside at their picnic tables. I would come here once a week if I lived nearby! I also want to add that I was so impressed with the service! We sat down at a picnic table that was not cleaned up (the ppl had JUST left) and a girl rushed out to pick up the dirty baskets, etc and apologized for it being messy....was sweet of her to do even though we didn't care :) made us feel important though! ;)

Great and interesting Tacos. Love the Thai Shrimp! Two locations one in River Arts (very casual- outdoor benches to share with friendly people) and the other across the street from the Mast General Store (small, new, nice).

Wow, one of the best tacos I ever had, the pork belly taco. I mean wow one of the best tacos I ever had, the mole duck taco. I mean wow, one of the best tacos I ever had, the Korean beef taco. Ok, screw it wall were outstanding i could eat here everyday. But there's more, service. They were great so tip mightily and often. I don't think 400 reviewers can be wrong.

The parking lot is more like a gravel lot but whatever, it's spacious! I had the steak & cheese and korean kimchi tacos. YUM!!! Very filling tacos with amazing flavor. If you check-in on Yelp, you get a free drink! We also had the queso chips and that was AWESOME, so don't forget to try that! The staff are super friendly :D

My wife and I drove up from Greenville, SC for the day and decided to try the White Duck. I am so glad that we did. We had five different tacos starting with the fish taco. We also had the BBQ Carnintas, Jerk Chicken, Korean Beef Bulgogi and finished with a Spicy Buffalo Chicken taco. I am so glad that we chose this place. It is off the beaten path but we'll worth the effort. I would definitely eat here again if I am back in the area. I just hope that Greenville gets one in the future. Just love the different flavors combinations.

We did a good tour and were served a fried shrimp taco on a corn tortilla with pickles. It was okay, I ate all of mine and finished the shrimp off my wife's. She did not like it. I ordered her a "World Famous Watermelon Sangria" from the bar. The bar tender picked up a plastic jug and poured into a glass and handed it to me without even a piece of watermelon, or any preparation. I questioned it and got a "I do not care look and response, plus no fruit in a "world famous sangria". I was not impressed by the food or service. I will not waste my time or money in this place again.

With so much variety, it was hard to go wrong here! Ordering two tacos was more than enough for a meal. I tried a Thai peanut chicken and a fish one. The tacos were filling and had just the perfect level of spice. The staff were absolutely wonderful! I would definitely go back in the future.

I was in town with a group for a sports event. 4 of us decided to try this place. What a great find! Between the 4 of us we tried 6 different tacos and they were all awesome. I guess you would call them gourmet tacos. If it's a nice day you can sit on the deck and chill and have some great food. You won't be disappointed!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
