Neo is really improving. The key to a good meal at Neo is to order off menu. Build your own! They have good ingredients, albeit expensive. I like the Green Burrito. But most other menu items are too weird and not worth the expense. However if you build your own they charge by weight. Within two or three attempts, you can really dial in some good combinations.

At one point I said that this was a quick, cheap place to get a good local meal. It's definitely still local, probably even more so, but it is neither quick nor cheap anymore. I'd be happy with either of those. The prices have gone up considerably, and while they have a few specials that go on throughout the week, a couple of small burritos is not something I expect to pay $20 for, when we all know I can get it for way cheaper at plenty of other places. So nowadays you get a smaller burrito for more money. They're still pretty delicious, and they have a great selection, but it's tough to get excited about coming back.

They always change prices/deals all the time. The specials (which you will see a poster or two inside) and now for dine in only booooooo Lost a regular customer

I enjoy the food however, the pricing and the attitude from the staff regarding the pricing pushed me out the door. If they have a deal going on, say the salads on the menu for $ 6 and you want to deviate from the exact ingredient list, say swap romaine lettuce for the spring mix you cannot get the same salad special price. I'm sure it sets up a lot of people for a surprise at the register. It appears that the staff is unhappy and it's probably related to the fact that they have upset or confused customers. Zero waste is a wonderful initiative but the other parts of running a business must reflect the same dedication. I haven't found it here, maybe the right feed back will help them grow.

There is seemingly a never ending selection of burrito places in Asheville. We're big fans of Mamacita's, Urban Burrito and even Moe's (even though it's a chain) We stopped by Neo one Saturday after a soccer game in WAVL. I went with the Jerk Chicken burrito minus beans. Typically burrito places will plus up on the rice and\or meat when you pass on the beans, not here. The end result was something slightly larger than a taquito and it filled my appetite about the same. I could have honestly eaten 3 of them. It all makes sense now that I see all the reviews on here that talk about pricing by the pound. I mean the Jerk Chicken chicken burrito is $7.75 plus $2 for a "large" burrito. Who's paying $10 for a burrito? Not me.

We eat here fairly often, but today was the last time, for me. I don't know what happened...we've already grown tired of the portions getting smaller, while the prices stayed higher than most...as well as several staff members seeming to forget they are supposed to be friendly to customers, not mumbling grouches that don't even look you in the eye. But, I just spent all night with nausea, diarrhea and a fever, from a Chupacabra burrito and chips I had yesterday afternoon. Two new guys were working, with little idea what to do, and the regular guy wasn't really helping them out...more standing there, smirking at them. Within 2 hrs of eating my food at home, I was having stomach cramps and bringing up nothing but spicy burrito and nacho pieces. It's now 6 am, the next day, and I've got most of it out of my system...but I'm still burping up that burrito. Please, guys. Be careful, and teach your new guys about cross-contamination BEFORE they serve the public?

Neo, you make me so sad. I used to champion this place as one of the (if not THE) best burrito spots in town. Yet, ever since I first moved to West Asheville two years ago, it seems as if they're actively trying to make me stop eating there. Let me explain: Since I started going there two years ago, prices have increased by at LEAST 20-25%. This might be understandable if they were located downtown, because at least then they would be catering to the tourist crowd. But who in West Asheville can afford a burrito that costs $8.50? Or a taco that costs $4.75?? That is absurd. We're just talking meat, cheese, beans here, no extras. $4.75/each. Second, prices are increasing but portion sizes are decreasing. I try to avoid gluten when I can, which means I usually get my burrito in a bowl, with chips. They literally give you about 12 chips. I have to ask for more chips every single time I go there. And they tell me it's because "we don't want anyone to waste anything"... How about wasting money? Or time? No one at Neo seems very concerned with me doing that. Third, their customer service is atrocious. The people fixing the burritos are, as others have explained, grouchy and not friendly whatsoever, acting like it's more of a chore to fix your meal than it is their actual job. I've given them the benefit of the doubt so many times, but it's just recently really come to a head for me. I work full time, and am only allowed 30 minutes for lunch. This makes dining in for lunch at Neo pretty much impossible, so I have to get takeout. If you've tried ordering takeout from them before, there's no way to call in and order, you have to do it through their website, 30 minutes in advance, using Paypal. This is inherently awful, but to make matters worse, the dedicated receipt printer they use for takeout orders is always out of ink. So TWICE now I've gone in on my very short lunch break to pick up food just to be told my order has been lost and I'll have to wait. Mind you, these orders were already fully paid for by me, in advance, through Paypal. The first time it happened, the guy who appeared the be the shift manager apologized profusely and told me it was their standard policy to give me a $20 gift card since they got my order wrong. This was the last piece of good customer service I got from Neo, and this was probably a year ago. Fast forward to the second time it happened, the girl who appeared to be the shift manager, instead of handling the situation professionally, then began to bicker and argue with one of the employees about it (including lots of hand gestures). So I then wait another 10-15 minutes for them to finally get me my food (which I ordered and paid for 45 minutes prior). The manager then hands me my food and says, "Thanks! Enjoy!" to which I stood there, waiting for her to acknowledge their policy about wronged orders. I said, after about 5 seconds, "...Don't you guys have a policy about this?" to which she said "Oh, yes, we do!" She wasn't even going to give me the gift card! This really burned me. The icing on the "terrible customer service" cake, if you will. Now, like I said, I really love the food at Neo, and obviously I was going to come back to use the $20 balance on the gift card I just basically had to beg for. My next two visits were pretty standard (they didn't mess up my order, anyway). But then I went back last night. When I walked in the door, there were 2 women in front of me in line. 'Cool,' I thought. 'I won't have to wait too long.' Boy, was I wrong! The woman in the front ordered 6 tacos. No big deal at all, she probably has a family to feed at home. Then the guy starts chatting her up. Not small talk, I'm talking, hands on the hips, not multitasking, just standing there talking. Look, I've worked at a lot of restaurants in my life. I know there is going to be some downtime, but when you have hungry customers waiting literally right in front of you, that is not the time. I'd been standing there for about 5-6 minutes before I looked up at the menu and noticed they had increased burrito prices by $0.50 since my last visit. This was the last straw. Why do you keep raising prices? It's obviously not because the food portions are getting any bigger, that your customer service is getting any better, or that your management is any less incompetent. Honestly, I think Neo could still turn the ship around. But it's going to require some smart changes, and some price decreases. Until then, I'm never going back.

I have been going to the new Neo Burrito on tunnel since it opened and I must say I have been very pleased with the food and the staff. The Neo in west Asheville, however, is not as good. The staff was not very welcoming but my main concern was the lack of consistency between their stores. My favorite burrito is the Chipotle burrito and when I order it, I always get plenty full by finishing the whole thing. The one I just ordered, however, wasn't even big enough to satisfy a kid. My wife ordered the jerk chicken burrito, which, in comparison to mine, was gigantic. When I mentioned something at the cash register, the employee merely said, " you should order a large." He asked me if I wanted chips, and then only put enough chips in my bag for about half a portion. I ordered 2 burritos, I should get 2 portions of chips, right? Never had an experience like this at the other Neo Burritos. 2 stars instead of 1 because the food did taste pretty good... But I'm still hungry....

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
