Coffee drinks and pastries are pretty good, but consistency of drinks is an issue. I had a hot chocolate that was out of this world on my first visit, but upon returning I ordered the same thing and it tasted like Swiss Miss, very disappointing. The cakes look great, though, and everything I tried from the pastry selection was top notch. Love the simple cookies they have right by the cashier. $1 for a lemon iced cookie with a nice tart flavor, good deal. Meals seem a bit expensive, so I was not tempted to try lunch. It's a little strange to me, since the pastries and coffee could be considered inexpensive compared to other shops. Atmosphere is ok, service is hit or miss, but long lines always put a strain on a lone barista. I get the feeling they are more about breakfast and lunch and less about espresso. Nothing wrong with that, but good to know before you stand in line.

Smack dab in the middle of the a row of art galleries (and next to the sustainable food market and DIY places), this is a little treasure. There's a big selection of veggie and meat sandwiches, but not just turkey and ham. Good, light eating after walking around. While you order, you can stare at the freshed baked good as well. (Go ahead and order something sweet because if you don't, you're going to go back before you leave...and then you feel both silly and weak. Avoid that. Trust me.) Good cup of joe as well.

fun cafe atmosphere. food is cooked for each order and is fast and delicious. the T A P is my favorite. avocado makes everything good!! their coffee is amazing as well. they have splenda and skim milk and its brewed to perfection!

City Bakery has the best baked goods I have found in Asheville or all of the South! They have extremely friendly staff who are always overgenerous when I eat/drink there. Did I mention they are all super friendly and all give off good vibes. I would recommend anything from the Lox breakfast to any of the sandwiches and ALL the cookies! The prices are good and very reasonable. I will definitely be back for the food and atmosphere. Thanks City bakery!

I tried the TAB on rye and an iced mocha. The sandwich was delicious. Huge chunks of avocado and the turkey was sliced thick. The mocha was one of the better that I've tried in town. All of the baked goods looked delicious but I wasn't able to try any yet. The prices were also pretty low for the quality. You can get a decent lunch and beverage for around ten bucks.

Two stars because all I ordered was an iced Americano and it was so weak that it tasted like the leftover melted ice water in the bottom of your cup of iced coffee after you've already drank it. To be fair I didn't try the food so it might be awesome!...but when I tried to go back in for a sandwich and they said they were closing (5pm on a Saturday). Also, my friend ordered a latte and he was happy with it...so I would just say...don't order an Americano.

Yummy, if anything try some of the scallion biscuit breakfast sandwiches, oh so good. I've been here on several occasions to try the breakfast pastries and other breakfast goodies and have been quite impressed with the quality and the overall taste. The last time I was here I tried the Belgian waffle with fresh fruit. It was very sweet and vanillaie served with real butter and maple syrup. City Bakery is definably a good bakery in Asheville.

I took a road trip down to Asheville for the weekend and stop at the City Bakery Cafe. It was very crowded on Saturday morning and I had to wait about 15 minutes before my order was taken. I just ordered a latte and a croissant, both were very good. They had a nice case displaying all their baked goods which looked very delicious. They also had a nice selection of breakfast sandwiches. The atmosphere was nice. I enjoyed my Saturday morning drinking a latte and reading a book!

This restaurant is okay but nothing special. I like that they make their bread, but it's not organic or made from local flour. They have one token vegan sandwich and almost no vegan desserts. Not sure why they would make those decisions in Asheville. Got to know your market. West End Bakery is a lot higher quality and caters to those of us who live here.

Wow. Best in Asheville? Not even Top 3. Seemed pretty overrated to us. TomO ... you are Walter Cronkite with your honesty and accuracy.

    Amazing cheddar biscuit breakfast sandwich

  • Marlana C.

Had the Avo-melt panini. It was good, but not good enough to order again. No problem with the quality of the ingredients, but didn't feel like it was worthy of the $8 price tag. I did enjoy the atmosphere though.

I've had lunch several times there; always excellent and fresh. I have ordered numerous cakes from them for special occasions and they are THE BEST to work with. Very friendly, easy to communicate with and will basically customize anything you like. I wanted a cake for a baby shower with a fairly intricate design based on the invitation. They did a PERFECT job. I usually get my cakes from the one on Charlotte but dine at the one on Biltmore but I love both my City Bakeries!

  • Christian S.

    Good coffee.

  • John C.

The Charlotte Street location is the one that I prefer however, both spots hit the spot! The cheddar-scallion biscuits, whether with bacon egg and cheese or with just a pat of butter are outstanding. Pair it with a cup of the locally-roasted coffee and your breakfast can't go wrong. For lunch, the Turkey Avocado Bacon sandwich with Basil Mayonnaise is superb and it certainly goes best with the smiling faces behind the Charlotte St counter. I've ordered a couple of birthday cakes in the past which were wonderfully moist and decadent but the greatest treat that CB has to offer is the coconut custard pie.

My husband and I had our rehearsal dinner here and the experience was wonderful! We were looking for a beautiful location in Asheville that could accomodate 40 guests. This was difficult as many restaurants can only accomodate 20 people max in private rooms, otherwise, we'd need to rent out the entire restaurant for the evening. Since City Bakery is not open during the evenings, it was affordable to rent out the space. We worked closely with Brian, the manager, on our event. We were able to order nice, white tablecloths, glasses/plates/silverware, etc through Brian and he also had 3 waiters work with us the evening of our event. With the tablecloths, candles, flowers and music, the space was transformed into a beautiful room, perfect for an evening event. Brian was also in attendance the night of our event making it a very smooth operation. Brian gave us suggestions on ordering food and alcohol and made extra efforts to help us get everything there. We enjoyed working with City Bakery and would definitely recommend it to others for private events.

On our 3 day trip to Asheville we ate here twice - the first day for breakfast and it was so pleasant that we decided to go back the next day for lunch. The service is great, and the food is simple and delicious. I also like that the restaurant has plenty of seating but it's spread out so it feels very spacious and private wherever you're sitting.

Great bakery in downtown asheville that is a relaxed seat yourself, after ordering, cafe establishment. The wait staff is super friendly and just a delight to converse with and offering a selection of menu choices if you have questions. This is a very laid back place to just relax and enjoy your time I had the Suplicar Clemencia dark roast coffee which is locally roasted from Dynamite Roasting company in neighboring Black Mountain, NC. It was the wake up I needed and so full of flavor To eat I chose the bacon-egg-cheese scallion biscuit. The biscuit was light and crunchy just in the correct locations of how a biscuit should be. The scallions were just the little extra that make you say OMG so good. The scrambled egg was light and fluffy and not over cooked. Their front display tray showed a large selection of treats that I must come back to try Parking is limited next to the building but is to be expected for any downtown asheville eatery FYI some fabulous art work on the walls which are for sale by local artists!

    (5)
  • Steven M.

Great place for a quick and "easy" bite. Wide selection of baked goods as well, all made in house. Coffee is Dynamite Roasting Co from Black Mountain (very yum). The biscuits are great and they have a well-rounded lunch offering of sandwiches and salads. All around -- a great option if you're looking for something quicker than the other breakfast/brunch places downtown!

Great bakery with a great atmosphere, convenient to Aloft parking. I went there this morning for breakfast and had a spinach-feta croissant and a soy latte. I'm cautious about dairy due to GI issues, so I kind of crossed my fingers and assumed (without asking) that the feta was made with a traditional sheep milk recipe. I'm not sure whether or not it's true, but it's a little lie I like to tell myself when I'm eating breakfast and everything on the menu includes some kind of cheese. Ambience was both lively and quiet. Music was subdued jazz standards. Seating was comfortable. Latte was decently good, but not as good as the soy lattes at High Five. Croissant was decently good, but, having tried both, I prefer the breads from City Bakery to their pastry fare. Service was fast and friendly. They have no problem handling long lines in the morning rush. Clientele seemed to be primarily white collar workers. As to the coffee/wifi/parking trifecta: Wifi is good, coffee is decently good, parking is convenient but you pay after the 1st hour. A solid 4-star choice for coffee shop business meetings, picking up a loaf of fresh artisanal bread, or grabbing a quick lunch. A respectable coffee shop and an above-average bakery, in a city full of excellent choices for coffee and baked goods.

Awesome service ,friendly smiling faces and wonderful food! Great atmosphere too! The staff gave some great tips for exploring some less known gems in the area and knew my name when I left ,will totally be back everyday for the next 3 days I'm here ! The latte was just right as well!

This venue has quite a bit of space to host groups & meetups. Located on Biltmore Avenue, there is parking (yet about a dozen or so spaces) right off of the road and catercorner to the red Double Dee's Coffee Bus just up the street. To say the least, the caffeine option is so worth stopping in here for. They don't rush making an expresso like some not-to-be-named coffee venues often do, and the dessert items are actually quite tasty. The customer service is very good, and the patrons are various locals and tourists alike when meeting. Overall, a fun place that I'll certainly return back to when in Asheville!

  • Michael E.

As a local...everyone has a favorite...and from a tourist perspective you might miss this lovely establishment as it sits just down the hill from the center of town, but it IS a "not to miss place" for those that what good food, coffee and service from this little bakery. This establishment will definitley satisfy your sweet tooth. Sit by the window if you want to people watch.....regardless if you are a local or tourist. A little secret....if you want to eat out side on a nice day....exit the bakery....go down the alley to the left of the store (facing it from the street mind you) and there is a little park and has a history with the African American community.

  • Diane E.

I had the spinach and feta croissant, my friend had tomato quiche and side of bacon. This was so good. Coffee is heavenly. We were early and walked straight to counter,,when we left line was practically out the door. I live here and really wasn't aware of the place! My out of town friend found it!

  • Ellie P.

This bakery was highly recommended to us from a family member, due to their wonderful home-made bread, bagels, biscuits, croissants, etc. We ended up having an issue at the bakery on our first couple of visits (ran out of the food we had wanted to order). Their manager heard about the issue and was excellent in solving the problem and being a prime example of "customer service." The staff was friendly to us on all visits and their biscuit sandwich was delicious.

  • Emily S.

I love the atmosphere at this bakery. It is such a great place to meet with friends for coffee or lunch, or even just to study or get some work done. They offer some great bakery treats and a full menu of sandwich and salad options that are great! I personally love to enjoy a good cup of joe at City Bakery. I have never encountered an unhappy worker at this establishment and everything is always kept very clean. This coffee chop is definitely worth trying.

In asheville for a weekend away and wanted a good brunch spot. All the "must go" spots had reviews that said be prepared to wait if you go on the weekend... We saw this place and decided to stop in. I had the stuffed French toast and it was absolutely delicious. No wait and not expensive. Highly recommend for a faster brunch spot without sacrificing quality.

We went there for breakfast. We ordered the farmhouse breakfast sandwich. It was amazing the best breakfast ever had. Huge. My husband also really enjoyed his coffee and he likes good coffee.

Was there this morning, my girlfriend forgot her purse there and when we came to get it all the cash that was there were gone- about 160$. The staff didn't call us even though her business card was there. Ruined our Asheville experience, very disappointed from the staff that didn't showed any will to help. I'm case you were there, saw or heard, please email me tombz007@gmail.com .

I just love it here! They have amazing bread and amazing coffee and they are friendly! They offer a seasonal bread a month and use a lot of local ingredients ! Their cakes, cookies, sweets and bagels are to die for! They have fresh sandwiches and a daily quiche that are great for lunch or breakfast, you can sit inside or outside , it's good for people watching ! The guys there are friendly and know what they are doing!

Visited here to grab a quick breakfast to go. It was around 9 am, and the place was fairly busy. Most seats were taken but no one was in line. Service wasn't too friendly or talkative, but I got my breakfast quickly. Based on other yelp recommendations I ordered a breakfast sandwich. Bacon, egg, and cheese on the cheddar & scallion biscuit. For a little extra you can get it on a homemade bagel. My sandwich was large, hot, and fresh. The biscuit was delcious. Their display case of desserts was very tempting with cupcakes, pie, and cake. I would definitely recommend the breakfast sandwich as well as picking up something sweet.

Wonderful bakery in downtown Asheville. Perfect after a brewery night. Wonderful pastries and breads.

    (5)
  • Jessica G.

Nice enough staff, if you take your orders to go, always check them. I would order pretty simple things with slight modifications, but there seemed to always be one thing off. Other than that, nice coffee shop with seemingly good ingredients.

Yummy scrambled eggs with sweet potato, shitake mushrooms. Biscuit that melts in your mouth. Coffee. What more could I ask for? Ah, plus Ali, best friendly server.

    (5)
  • Amy S.

Simple and delicious. Will just give you plain, non-fancy stuff if you ask. Prices are a bit high, but still somehow decent. Tables are clean and service is good. You sit where you want to and throw out your own refuse- no one is breathing down your neck. Nice atmosphere. Tables are far enough apart so you do not have to coexist in a touchy-feely, communal way. Not so crowded that you feel like the whole experience will not be enjoyable. Minus one star for the bored girl behind the counter- hey, I've done it all before you- give me a damn minute to decide. Will add star in the future if order-taker is not affected. Other than that, the balance of the workers can be seen gettin' stuff done. And they do- go and see!

The warm turkey sandwich was unexpectedly delicious. The siracha really took it to another flavor level!

We had a nice breakfast here on our way through Asheville. The friendly and attentive staff helped us find everything we needed. The food was fresh and delicious and was brought over to us quickly. We would most definitely go back and recommend it to anyone looking for a good, relaxed, breakfast.

Good coffee. Flavorful biscuit sandwiches and handmade bagels. We would return when looking for a quick grab and go breakfast.

  • Abdul G.

When I visited this place, I was a meat eater, so the chicken croissant sandwich was amazing. Now that I'm a vegetarian, I'm not sure if my impression would be the same. The decor was okay and the staff was friendly, but I can't say much else.

Just tried to order a very small cake for my sister's birthday celebration tomorrow evening and was told NO without 48 hours notice. I was not asking for a custom cake, but rather the kind you would buy out of the case (small cake to serve a few people). The girl answering the phone didn't even offer to check to see if perhaps this small request could be honored. Just said no. Bad service. I'll be letting the restaurant that recommended I call you know that they shouldn't be recommending you to their customers. ... Oh and I tried to call earlier and the phone rang and rang and rang. Who knows if your bakery is any good, but your service stinks.

  • Larry S.

Pretty much your average bakery/cafe. Get the good, not the coffee! Think Panera bread with a little better sweets. Good: there is a great selection of pastries and sweets. They all looked amazing through the glass, but we opted for egg and cheese biscuits! They were great! Perfectly toasted crust with fully melted cheese and fluffy fresh egg. Bad: the furniture is pretty on par with Panera, but that is somewhat saved by the local art. Their cappuccino was meh. I guess you sacrifice a good Capp for good food. The froth was way too milky, and the "small" was approx. 72oz of milk. And 1 shot.

    (3)
  • Paul F.

Service was great if you are into being ignored. Stood at the counter for five minutes while EVERYONE turned their backs...8 bucks for a mediocre sandwich. Can not wait to come back.

Everything a bakery should be. Everything fresh, great coffee, even the music is done well.

Amazing! Ordered the veggie biscuit with egg and the fruit parfait. Omg-so delish. Service and ambiance were great. Loved this place. Thanks for starting my morning off right! Will def return and recommend.

We dropped in City Bakery for a quick breakfast before heading back to Charlotte. There were two employees working the counter, which was ample for the amount of customers. We ordered pimento cheese fritters and I asked the skinny dude if the coffee was self serve. "No, it isn't!" he snapped, "so you better tell me what you want!" Seemed like Mr. Smarty Pants needed a cup of coffee himself, or, better yet, to go back home and start over. The fritters were very good. An assortment of music, from French styled cafe songs to retro classics complimented the atmosphere. We will return, but hopefully, the bakery will hire employees who are morning people. Update for August 31: the young lady at the counter was smiling and pleasant. The angry young man was polite. Food good as ever.

Yummy breakfast sandwich! Great Mocha Latte and my kids loved the hot chocolate. We were having a hard time finding a breakfast place that opened before 10 downtown so we happened upon this place by accident. So glad we did...thoroughly enjoyed this place.

  • Kevin D.

This bakery was located across the street from our hotel, so we had to give it a try. It's a great atmosphere and there were plenty of seats and tables. They offer a lot of breakfast items, (breakfast served till 11am) lunch items and desserts. I chose the everything bagel and my wife chose the fruit parfait. Both were great! The bagel was light and "airy" with a chewy crust. It was probably one of my favorite bagels. The specialty coffee was great as well. The fruit parfait was made to order offering a ton of fruit compared to others I have had in the past. We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast that we decided to come back the next day. The only thing I would do different is order a dessert.

Excellent coffee and friendly service. I enjoyed sitting outside with my pup in their little patio area.

  • David S.

Amazing food, great coffee! Nicest staff. they make their biscuits with cheddar and caramelized scallions.you add a huge slab of cheddar, some locally sourced sausage, locally sourced Jam. When staying at the Grove Park Inn I always make it a point to visit City Bakery & Cafe. Drop your coat and keys on a table...seating is limited. Always a treat!

  • Alexandra S.

I'd even say between 2.5 and 3 stars is more accurate. What it's good for: great ambiance / atmostphere, wifi if you want to hang out a little. fabulous multigrain baguette! the caprese sandwich on baguette is delicious as was the coconut pie What is far from great with: the salads on the menu are ridiculously overpriced for basically a garden salad with a little chicken or tempeh. the paninis are ok but not fabulous and again over priced given the size of the sandwich. the bear's claw was plain old bad - it had almonds on top but absolutely no almond paste in the middle and the pastry itself was not very good -- such a disappointment after the mediocre salad. service wasn't really great either - just kind of slow and on a day where they were definitely no where near busy

  • Gail M.

My daughter chose City Bakery in Asheville, NC to do her wedding cake. The design was art deco and it proved to be a knockout. Guests commented on the striking design and details and the taste. We worked closely with Sarah R. who provided the highest customer service at all times -- from sketching Kristin's design to the tasting. There were two flavors and amazing fillings. My daughter and I wanted a butter cream finish (not fans of fondant) and Sarah did it to perfection -- people thought it was fondant it was so smooth a finish. Service, design, taste, and value -- Thank you, Sarah and City Bakery for a beautiful dream wedding cake.

Stopped in for a quick breakfast and coffee. Cappuccino and latte were very good as was the ham and cheese croissant. The orange almond croissant had great flavor.

  • Scott S.

To be honest, I expected better from a place with such great reviews and so many awards, but I was a little disappointed in the speed and price. Food quality - No complaints here. My ham and gruyere sandwich was hot, a good size, and plenty tasty. I always love anything I can get with Lusty Monk mustard on it. (4/5) Price - A bit steep. Without the AIR Passport, we would have been out $20 for two sandwiches and a glass of tea. (3/5) Service - Plenty friendly, but not quick by any standard. Took about 15 minutes to get two simple paninis. (2/5)

Want to never have the urge to buy 'regular' bread again? Despise that bundle they call 'bread' at the grocery store? Then buy fresh mutli grain sandwich bread from City Bakery. Your sandwich meat will thank you for the upgrade! Recently moved to the Asheville area and happened upon this wonderful bakery. I recommend the scones and the fresh bread made daily. I get my bread for home weekly here. Their Challaah (a traditional Jewish Sabbath bread) is wonderful and perfect for French Toast.

  • Meredith B.

Great local lattes and good breakfast choices. Everything was super fresh, homemade, and well priced. Felt like a real local getting my cup of joe!

Incredibly good pastries and very good coffee...if they heated the stuff before serving, five stars...so maybe ask!

    (4)
  • Paul C.

This place is great. Good coffee including a medium roast option for those of us who don't like our coffee burned. Fresh made bagels and pastries, the herb and cheese biscuits are delicious. If you're a little on the hungry side the stuffed french toast is incredible as is the quiche. The prices are a little steep so 4 stars instead of 5 but you're in Asheville . . . things are going to be expensive.

    (4)
  • Brian K.

Great local breakfast joint. The homemade biscuits with bacon egg and cheese are awesome. Added a little yogurt, fruit and granola parfait! Yummy!

The food was okay and the service staff is unfriendly and behave like you are wasting their time.

    (2)
  • Elizabeth S.

The food and coffee are yummy, but the service is terrible! Well, really its just the blondish cashier with a nose ring that's rude. My husband and i live right down the street, pop in here every other day, sometimes twice a day, but if we see her working we turn right around!

  • Tony L.

City Bakery provides Asheville with the freshest and best tasting bread. There truly is no better source for fresh, local bread. They also serve up some great sandwiches for breakfast and lunch. My favorites are Turkey Avocado and Melted Goat...but they are all good. Savory and tasty ingredients, freshly prepared. bread made that morning...there's nothing greater! This location (downtown--and my favorite location) is great for breakfast or lunch if you want to dine in. Their other Charlotte Street location is much to small for sitting and staying a while. Get a coffee and a pastry and enjoy the afternoon air at a sidewalk table...

I go here every time I'm in Asheville. I love everything about this place. The atmosphere, baked goods , service and coffee. Such a really neat place to unwind and enjoy your morning. I highly recommend going here.

  • Bullet M.

I usualy really enjoy coming here because it has this upscale vibe that almost guarantees that I won't run into a bunch of people who are going to distract me. (i.e.- my friends are poor.) It's a great place to sit and work on your laptop (free wifi that is kind of spotty), draw, read, or do the crossword. The clientele is mostly older folks, business folks having one-on-one meetings, and tourists. None of which are in a particular hurry. I like that. The space is huge and quiet, so you can get a semblance of privacy. My complaints are about the inconsistency. I know they just hired a few new people who haven't quite figured it all out yet and appear to have been trained by very different managers, but it's been long enough that I should expect the kinks to have been worked out. Sometimes I get charged for butter (50 cents per square!!! Crazy!!) and sometimes not. Sometimes I get charged full price for my tiny mug from home, and other times refill price. Sometimes the coffee sucks and sometimes it's perfect. I don't know. It's hit or miss, but what can I say? I love danger. I guess it all evens out in the end. One thing that is always reliable are the baked goods. Usually I just cheap out and get a coffee and 2 of their 50 cent rolls with some butter and that's plenty for me, but I've also had their other bread items and some sweets. The bread is always fabulous. You can also dumpster it after hours, and I've had staff give me cookies as they were closing since they were going to be throwing them away. I've tasted other people's sandwiches and whatnot in there, and they were always good, but the prices are too high for what they are. Oh and I really like their bathrooms. They are nothing special. I just like them.

My partner and I had a breakfast biscuit for breakfast here when visiting Asheville. It was surprisingly great. We will definitely go back sometime. The atmosphere is also very nice in that hipster, downtown Asheville vibe.

Great spot for a quick and easy bite to eat. Had the Club sandwich and a coffee. Two thumbs up on both. Super friendly and helpful staff. Was full from my sandwich, so I wish I could have had room to taste a sweet. Everything in the case looked super-yummy. Will definitely return.

Reading the most recent reviews, we proceeded cautiously into the cafe. I was pleasantly greeted by the fellow taking our order. The woman (blond and noise ring) made me a delicious 4 shot latte complete with a heart. Our food did take a bit long, but our drinks were immediate and we sat outside and enjoyed our drinks and watched people walk by. The food was flavorful and well worth the wait.

I love the modern atmosphere. I'll come here for a cheese scallion biscuit. They seem reheated in the AM even and their eggs are a bit too salty for my taste. However, their pastries are delicious. Croissants! MMMM. I haven't had their cupcakes, but seeing that they've been in some bridal magazines, I would say they're pretty good. They look good at least! They have free wi-fi too!

I enjoy coming here for afternoon coffee/tea and snack and doing some writing or reading. The selection of drinks and treats is excellent and the ambiance is nice- plenty of room at each table, good lighting and music. I wish it were open in the evening too!

Stopped here for a bagel sandwich and coffee. Looking forward to visiting again the next time I'm in Asheville.

we stopped into city bakery at the tail end of our two week roadtrip down the east coast. it hit the spot. the atmosphere was so very welcoming. for breakfast I had an egg and cheese bagel sandwich. the scratch made bagel was awesome! We took some desserts and bread with us to go and enjoyed them later. let me tell you, these folks know how to bake. if you visit asheville and are looking for some hospitality and great breakfast or lunch stop in here. we left satisfied!

My review of City Bakery is a bit belated but I wanted to give a review for their amazing job in doing my wedding cake and groom's cake. The wedding cake was covered with ganache and was very moist and the almond cake with raspberry jam was my favorite layer. The groom's cake was spectacular - I emailed them a picture of my husband's submarine's insignia and they recreated that and a realistic looking submarine. The groom's cake was a huge hit too - chocolate with a layer of mocha. The prices are reasonable too. I can't wait to return here to try their baked goods again.

Please go to one of our other fine establishments, and give this place a miss. Coffee is poor to mediocre, atmosphere is impersonal, and service is generally lousy. From speaking with former employees, it does not seem as if the owner treats his staff that well, and it shows. For a town that prides itself on local and organic, City Bakery is all about conventional and Sysco. Think King Arthur flour instead of our locally milled organic and so on. It's like a chain, but not there yet. Check out Old Europe instead for great coffee and pastries. In a wonderful atmosphere.

While visiting Asheville recently my husband and i stopped by this cafe for breakfast. It was clean, soft lighting and very very busy on Sunday Morning!! my ham and cheese croissant was really good, as was the cinnamon roll we shared, although it would have been better if it was heated, or offered to heat. Another note: the ordering procedure is very confusing, and this was the second time in one weekend it occurred to me people how a little patience with patrons out of town would go a lonnnng way. No I do not know what you serve, or how to order please be patient and make suggestions, be attentive... after all we tourist spend our money in your City! all in all food was good, i would suggest for a quick bite.
