By far the best Chinese in Missoula. The seating area is tastefully decorated in traditional Chinese fashion, and there's lots of neat art to gaze at as your order is cooked. Service is quick and polite, and your water or tea will never run out with all the waiters about. The fried rice is excellent, and so is anything with beef. If you're not sure what to order or are unsure what a specific item on the menu is, just ask the waitress, as they're all knowledgeable about the items on the menu.

WOW!! WOW!! We were on a family vacation in Montana and we happened to be in Missoula this day and we were craving for Thai food. Unfortunately, the Thai place that we first went to had a 35 minute wait so we decided to have Chinese. At first, we were hesitant because we were in Montana. How can we find a great Chinese rest here. I searched and this was the highest rated Chinese rests in Missoula. AND WE NEVER REGRETTED HAVING DINNER HERE. The service was great. We let our server know it was our first time here and he recommended to is his personal favorites and we went with it: 1. House Lo Mein - A MUST have! 2. Schezuan Beef - amazingly delicious 3. Shrimp fried rice - was good! 4. Fried prawns - delicious. This place is definitely one of the best Chinese rest we've been and we are from Southern California which is a Mecca for Chinese food. You won't deftest coming here. Plus the portions are huge!!! Will definitely come back here!!! To the owners, keep up the great food and service!!!

Came with my mother-in-law, who suggested this place, as it was voted best Asian restaurant by the people of Missoula. As a Chinese woman, who grew up in Taipei, she was eager for my thoughts on this place. As far as authenticity of the taste...well, it's been Americanized. That's not necessarily a bad thing, especially, considering the majority of their clientele. However, now that I think about it, why not serve 粽子 or even 猪脚? There is so much more to Chinese cuisine than chow mein and fried rice. Anywho... So we ordered the pork lo mein, Mongolian beef, Kung pao chicken (which I personally would never have ordered, but it's my husband's favorite), honey walnut shrimp (my kids' favorite), and the shrimp rolls. [side note: I was surprised to see one Chinese family there when I entered, and then a different one when I left. They must have a craving like me. Over the last several years I've seen a few more Asians here than 10 years ago...which is encouraging. I used to never see any outside of the Chinese buffet place, which I thought was kind of sad.] Now for the food: The noodles were good (can't really go too badly here, with the exception of taste). The Mongolian beef wasn't anything like I had ever had before...lots of mushrooms, water chestnuts and bell peppers...in addition to the onions. The taste wasn't right either--for the dish I expected it to be, but it had flavor. I mostly just ate the veggies. The meat was tougher than it should have been for this dish. So if you like Mongolian Beef and are craving it, don't get this. You'll be disappointed. The Kung pao chicken was a bit bland to me. Sadly, I think Panda Express has Kung pao with more flavor. The honey walnut shrimp was good (small shrimp); the one I make at home is better. The shrimp rolls were interesting; lots of batter on it. My son still liked it. So all in all, not bad for Missoula. Authentic? Not even close. But it was good since I've missed eating Chinese food now for almost two weeks.... I was tickled to see how sweet & sour had its own section on the menu! (Side note: I've never eaten sweet and sour pork until I came to the U.S.)

Despite rave reviews from the locals, I had a pretty bad experience at China Garden Restaurant. I arrived during dinner service, hoping to enjoy the best Chinese food in town. I glanced through the menu, first at the list of lunch specials, and I saw a wide variety of dishes that looked good, at least on paper. Flipping through the pages, I searched for a similar list with appropriate pricing for dinner. Instead what I found was a meager list of 4 choices under a "dinner special combinations" banner. Sadly, the vast majority of plates I was interested in from the lunch specials were absent and could only be ordered for much higher prices for family style dinning. There was also very little variety between the choices available as dinner specials. Disheartened, I ordered one of the combos. Well, at least the sweet and sour sauce was pretty good. but it couldn't mask the bad flavor coming from the pork and chicken it was smothering. The pork fried rice was bland, and made up of nothing more than a scant amount of pork and yellowish rice. Would it have killed them to include some vegetables? And the worst part was the chow mein, which turned out to be less of a noodle dish and more of a pile of bean sprouts plopped on top of some crunchy noodles. I can't even fathom what they were thinking when they thought that up. Making matters worse was the service. Though friendly enough while directly interacting with the customers, they spent the rest of their time gossiping near the doors to the kitchen, and tended to avoid eye contact aside from the fixed intervals in which they occasionally stopped by the table. I ended up waiting nearly 10 minutes for someone to pick up my check as I watched them walk by, time and time again, before I carried it over the counter myself. If there's one saving grace for China Garden Restaurant, it's the ambiance. They did a fantastic job of decorating. I just wish the food and service was as carefully planned. For better food, head across the parking lot to Vietnam Noodle, or if you must have Chinese, Bamboo Chopstix is a safe bet.

Hands down the WORST Chinese food I've ever had. I ordered a combination plater (#2) and it came with "pork fried rice" which was nothing more than bland yellow rice with no seasoning or veggies. To make matters worse the "pork chow mein" was a pile of bean sprouts with a TON of celery. My entire plate tasted like over cooked celery :( SO disappointed in this restaurant and that I had to pay $13 for a meal as bland as this.

Great Chinese food, among the best I've had! Service was top notch and checked in often and came back to let me know he had indeed told the chef about the change I made mid-appetizer. Definitely coming back and often!!

Visited the restaurant because of the "Voted Best in Missoula" rating and what a disappointment. Service was nice. Food quality needs to be rethought. Up your game! Lemon Chicken with a gooey, slathered-over sauce with only the hint of citrus? Please don't insult the chicken. The Almond Chicken Chow Mein was passable (fresh and attractive) but Pork Fried Rice very sad--add a few more morsels to make it interesting. Re-think the food from kitchen to table and you might have something to offer Missoula. Until then we won't visit again.

Despite advertising that they can cook gluten free if you require it, they really can't. When I asked about gluten free items I was told they can skip the Cornstarch before frying (hello Cornstarch is gluten free) but all their sauces have soy sauce. Waiter went on to tell me that they don't have gluten free soy sauce because they feel a little bit of wheat in regular soy sauce shouldn't be a problem. Needless to say, I had a bland, sauce less meal and won't be going back. My husband isn't gluten free. His meal was greasy and definitely lacking in the flavor department. Skip this place and go across the parking lot to Vietnam Noodle. They have Chinese food in addition to Vietnamese.

We went here for lunch today literally the minute it opened. There were already 4-5 tables when we were seated and there must have been 5-6 more that came in after us. It was definitely a great sign. The staff was very friendly. They give you really good complimentary tea. At first their prices seamed high but then we got our food and it was amazing. HUGE. I can easily get 3 meals out of my chicken lo mein. It was possible the best I've ever had and I thought Missoula didn't have any good chinese food until coming here. My boyfriend had the Shrimp Hong Kong Chow Mein and that was amazing as well. I honestly couldn't have had a better experience.

Got carry out tonight and not very impressed. The rice was already cold even though I called in the order 10 minutes before I got there, and the Mongolian Beef and Cashew Chicken had almost no flavor and both were almost completely vegetables. Bottom line: you can probably get better Chinese food at an Ethiopian restaurant. Oh, and the restaurant closes at 9pm, not 9:30 as indicated on yelp.

What a hidden little gem. I have lived in Missoula for 6 years and didn't know this was here! AWESOME wait service by the gentleman. Very cool decor and cleanliness. Well lit too with the windows. They fit a lot of people in there, but you don't really feel crowded (maybe a little when walking to and from your seat). I had Dinner Combo #2 (the menu is on their website). Only $11, good amount of food with tea and soup. It included: Pork Chow Mein (I upgraded to soft noodles)--I had never seen this before, had a lot of celery, but was not bad... Not much noodles; Almond Fried Chicken was a little salty, but still good; Sweet & Sour Pork--very nice!; Pork fried Rice--Money! In all, the food (mainly the Almond Chick) was the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars. But it was still good and very fresh and non-greasy! Great place to go for a nice dinner out without spending a ton! Feel good, airy place! The Lo Mein looks good on their website, can't wait to try it! Oh, and they have cool looking desserts (didn't try) and beer from a local brewery in the Bitteroot!

Not from the area but looked on here to check for a good Chinese restaurant. We found this place at the top of the list and had excellent reviews. Was very impressed with the atmosphere when we walked in and it only got better! The service was very pleasant and our waitress was very attentive! I enjoyed our wonton soup, egg rolls, and meal altogether. The almond chix chow mein is to die for and the pork fried rice is very tasty! The food textures were perfect, will definitely be back when we visit!!!

Order the family combos. This way you get to sample a little bit of everything. We always enjoy the almond chicken and struggle with what to order. We are THOSE people who can never make up their minds.

The new desserts are must-have endings to these perfect meals! I've been coming here since 1991 and everything just gets better year after year. Everyone has opinions when it comes to Chinese cuisine. I've had variations around the world, from many different regions in China, and this is still my absolute favorite for Chinese. Highly recommend the Chinese Greens with Chicken.

Had house guests visiting from California who wanted to try some of our Chinese food that Missoula had to offer. Keep in mind that we all have extremely high standards for this type of food. When you live on a coast in a metropolitan area you sometimes take for granted the quality of especially Asian food you have access to. We ordered a variety of dishes and enjoyed the meal overall.

Great service great food. My favorites are the shrimp rolls (hand rolled shrimp bacon and BBQ) and the garlic chicken! It's nice to finally go to a Chinese restaurant where the whole place is clean. The portions are very generous too! One dinner plate can feed practically two!

ThIs was okay. The soup was good and the sweet and sour sauce was decent. But the chow mein was like eating a pile of celery. Way too much. We have been looking a long time for a good Chinese restaurant, and sadly nothing yet. We won't be going bad here. Although the younger gentleman waiter is one of the best I have ever had. He belongs in a 5 star restaurant.

I had my birthday dinner here and I was pretty impressed with the prices. With a group of over 10 people, it only out to be about $11 per person. The food however is a little generic. I'm pretty picky when it comes to Chinese food so it takes a lot of wow me. They've got a great banquet area for large groups as well.

I grew up in Missoula and gone to China Garden over the years. It is by far my favorite place to go and eat out. They have a wonderful atmosphere (traditional style) with a friendly and efficient staff. The prices are very reasonable and the food is good. It is good as a family restaurant and also for dates. There really isn't anything bad i can say about China Garden. Its a wonderful place!

Staff was very friendly and easy to get along with. The hot and sour soup here is the best I've ever had. It's a little bit more expensive than other Chinese Restaurants in Missoula, but the quality of the food is worth it!

Food was good. Crab Rangoon were not too flavorful and the wontons were really doughy. I ordered from the weight watchers menu and got steamed chicken with vegetable. It was fresh and tasty. I'll go back.

The best Chinese food in Missoula! I'm an easterner originally so I can be a Chinese food snob but this place rocks! I've never eaten at the restaurant so I don't know what the service is like but everyone is always super friendly. I always order the vegetable fried rice, crab rangoons and pan fried pork dumplings. Yummy! I've taken friends here and they love it too. Plus, when I go to pick up my food I get to check out their fabulous fish. You have to love a restaurant with an aquarium!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
