This is a happening brew pub with tasty food choices and good craft beer selections. We stopped by for lunch and we're lucky to get a table for our large group. Service was good especially considering how busy it was at lunch. We started with the wings and fried cheese curds. The wings were Cajun dry rub. They were crispy and meaty but not too spicy. The cheese curds had a siracha powder on them but they weren't spicy - a big hit with our younger dinner guests. For entrees we had the second date burger with a date sauce, garlic aioli, and LTO. Very good although the bun was a bit big and tended to fall apart making this dish a little messy. We also has the trout tacos with a fruity bean slaw which was a bit bland. We also had the kids fish n chips and Mac n cheese. Both were good sized portions for kids meals. For drinks, we had the beer sampler which included samples of their 10-12 beers. This was a great way to sample all they have to offer! We will definitely come back again!

What a gem in a small town! Looking for a brewery where we could also get lunch brought us to Bitterroot. The IPA was outstanding; lunch was great; the server was very knowledgable and helpful. We ordered the Huckleberry Chicken Sandwich (crispy beer battered chicken, smoked Gouda, local greens, house made huckleberry jam served on a Telera roll) and the Curds and Bacon Burger (beer battered white cheese curds, maple peppered bacon, roasted pepper aioli, local greens, red onion and tomato and, oh yes, the burger). Both were fabulous. Don't ask what the "white cheese curds were. It really doesn't matter as that layer was delish! What a find this place is! Loved it.

If you're in Hamilton, come by here. You're going to have a good time, guaranteed. Definitely a hot spot in Hamilton on the weekend. This is a full on brewpub that has the usual bar bites, plenty of beer, and even live music. Sucks that Montana has weird liquor laws for breweries and forces them to close at 8pm. Had their sampler which came with TEN beers and I thought all the takes on IPAs were pretty hoppy. I also really enjoyed the seasonal pumpkin ale along with the "Red Dread" and I don't even like amber ales normally. Food was okay, was recommended the tacos but what I was thinking? It did pass through my head that I was in one of the furthest states from the Southern border, there was no way they'd be legit. My chicken taco came with shredded cheese, 'nuff said. Fish taco was a bit better and surprisingly wasn't beer battered like everything else I've seen in MT. There's no pizza offered here, next time I might opt for a wrap or burger instead. Not sure why people opt to create fake Mexican food around here at so many restaurants. Service at the bar was okay, there were only two bartenders servicing all drink orders on a really busy night so it took a while to get your orders in. Should be mentioned, you're limited to 4, 12oz pours and you also get a stamp card that keeps track of how much you've had. Most interesting.

Very happening little gem! Can't remember the first glass of beer I had ordered (the dark ale), but it was a Nut Ale and was very tasty and accented my meal very well. I ordered from the yellow menu which was what the kitchen makes "on a whim" and it was an asian spin on sliders. Tasted like a gourmet meal; creative and good for a complex palette. Delicious! Kudos to the chef. Another kudos to the one guy who waited on all the tables and the bar and stayed busy and efficient, polite and didn't forget a thing! Very interesting spot! I'd definitely recommend this trendy, little diamond-in-the-rough if you're traveling through Hamilton, MT!

Okay..... Love the beer but oh my god! The service here is the worst... Yesterday there were 4 patrons... Took begging to get a beer.... I've come here for years ... Today took 10 minutes then noticed my beers were at the end of the bar no noe to serve us... I can't recommend this local pub... Sorry if you want a beer ... Prepare to be ignored...

Lewis and Clark's Excellent Adventure - Season One, Episode V "Brewing up a Storm" 15 March 2014: The Bitterroot Valley has changed since our last visits. The scenery is the same, but the food and drink are much better. We arrived in a town that was not here before, a place they call "Hamilton." We camped near to the town square and entered a brewery, where to our great pleasure there was food, warmth, and brews in great abundance. I selected an ale tasting of honey and citrus and fresh hops; Lewis opted for a stout made in the style of Imperial Russia. We were asked if we wished to eat. I ordered a grizzly bear burger and Lewis wanted dog tacos. We were told in no uncertain terms that such things were not to be found. And they nearly threw us out for such impertinences. The Bitterroot Valley has indeed changed since '05 and '06! I quickly amended my order to three tacos prepared with cod, pork, and beef; Lewis had a burger with fried sticks of yam, called "sweet potato fries." We were glad not to have had to eat dried salmon - again! The beer was refreshing, rich, and flavorful. The tacos and burger baskets were plentiful and most nourishing. Lewis's spirits seemed to have been lifted. He gazed out the window at the snow-covered peaks and the wide, granite-faced canyon to our West. "I'm glad we didn't have to eat horse again," Lewis told me between bites of burger. "But perhaps we should purchase a growler of Nut Brown Ale before we attempt to cross Lolo Pass this time." "Better make it two," I said to my intrepid traveling companion. "It's a long way to the Columbia from here, and beer this fresh and local is not so easy to find where we are heading." "And where is that?" he asked, ordering another pint of stout and extra sweet potato fries. "Lewiston, of course. In a place they call Idaho." "A city named after me!" He was incredulous. "How most unusual. And what are our names doing on that bottle of beer over there? Sawtooth Ale? I am so confused, Clark." Poor Lewis. There is much that he needs to learn before we reach the Pacific. I ordered us another round. This would take more time (and beer) than I had anticipated ...

Came here after Darby Logger Days (if you're in the area make time for that!) for a beer and dinner. Shares an order of Last Best Balls (mac' cheese balls) and ordered a couple of burgers (mushroom & swiss and a curds & bacon). Burgers were fantastic and their beers were as good!!

I've visited this establishment several times when I've been in the area. I feel like the food has definitely gone downhill. It used to be a 4 star place, but now it's only like a 2 star place. I've heard they have a new chef - he/she needs to step it up. I hear the beer is still good (couldn't try it this trip - I'm pregnant), so that's a plus. If you're looking for good beer, this is the place to come. If you're looking for good food, try someplace else.

Great Service! Great Food! Great Beer! Great Time! The place was packed and to our surprise they had everything covered. Our food and drinks were prompt! We were met by a very pleasant and knowledgeable waitress Sara. She answered all our questions about the food and beer. The live band was great and not too loud. I would give 2 thumbs up and would definitely recommend to anyone.

Second time in Bitterroot. They have great beer but the service is horrible. My most recent visit, me and a friend went in for a couple beers. Waitress greeted us and told us to sit anywhere. We waited 15 minutes before I lost my patience and waved a waitress down. She took our beer order and we continued to wait. There were 3 other tables that had been waited on for folks that walked in after us. After another 10 minutes, we walked out. None of the waitresses even noticed and it wasn't that busy. Wont't go in ever again.

First off- the beer is excellent. That's why you're here. Good selection, all well done. My fish & chips were... meh. Probably my favorite meal is fish & chips and beer, so I was looking forward to this with high expectations. Oh well. My wife's pesto chicken wrap was slightly better, but not great. The sweet potato fries were excellent. FWIW, my brother and his daughter stopped by here the next day and reported that the burgers were really very good. That appears to be the way to go here.

Had the mushroom Swiss burger and loved it! I liked these burgers better than naps and appreciated the flavor variety in the menu. The portions were large and did not disappoint. A little on the spendy side but worth it for the quality of food. Can't wait to try the rest of their menu.

Decent beer but the food was pretty bad. The Nachos were the only thing on the menu I would go back and order.

Great beer...the chicken nachos tasty and HUGE! Definitely enough to share. The salsa was mild at best....I will be back.

Let's cover beers first...then service later. Sawtooth Ale a solid beer. Huck Honey is a great seasonable summer beer. Ginger hefeweizen is yummy. It is quite unique and refreshing. I like it, but question if I could drink more than a taster. We came her so my husband could get the Nut Brown, but the Vanilla Porter is a better match. The Nut Brown has a funky aftertaste. The Vanilla Porter is full bodied with just a touch of vanilla in the finish. The White IPA is smashing! Love it! Has a lemon finish and is really refreshing. Session Pale Ale pales (forgive the pun) to the White IPA. Noting unique about it. Pretty bland..... The IPA is wonderful! Not hoppy, but has a great orange finish. I love it! The Single Hop is a solid beer. It is very balanced. Hard to pick a distinct flavor. Just an all around good beer. The Summit IPA is magnificent. Really really good beer! The brewmaster here deserves applause! Some of the best samplers I have ever had! Now to the service....I may look somewhat young and definitely am a woman, but seriously? Don't offend me by telling me in which order I should drink my sampler as not to screw up the flavors. I get that she totally wants me to enjoy the experience, but she was in such a rush that she took no time to ask me if I would like her wrought instructions or to actually care about me as a customer. Overall, as a brewery it is awesome! Service and atmosphere leave something to be desired. Will give it 4 based on beer ONLY!

Located in an old grain elevator, nice feel from walking in, to getting seated. They brew their own beer on site. I had mushroom burger with caramelized onions, my wife had a date puree topped burger. We could not recall a better burger in our lives, fries were thin and crispy and not over done. Will go back!

Had a chance to go here recently after a short hike nearby. My party arrived at opening time on a Sunday and already this place was getting busy. We ordered our beer and some food and found somewhere to sit. They were shorthanded when they opened by once other staff came on shift the service level went up and was good. The beer I tried was good (pumpkin). I ordered a burger because I was in the mood for one and it is usually a safe bet. As hungry as I was my burger was ok. If you are in the area I would recommend checking this place out. I am sure it is very popular locally especially for somewhere to go with live music.

The service here is pretty good. They have the best burger I have had in the area call the "Date Burger" it is truly amazing. Thier beer selection is great as well. I would definitely check the place out if you have the time.

I live in Portland, Oregon so have explored many-a breweries, bars and restaurants. I was pleasantly surprised to find such a gem of a spot tucked away in the beautiful Bitterroots! Bitterroot Brewery's food is very inventive --- but executed successfully, unlike many places that try to dive into "inventive" food. Their service is great, atmosphere is fun and location is killer --- a patio where you can see the mountains surrounding you?! What more could you want! Thanks to Bitterroot brewery for such a great time. I'll be back!

The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the beer is not bad, not great, but not bad. Otherwise it would be one star. The service is consistently bad but the last time I went there with my girlfriend is was so atrocious that we have not been back. As we walked up the stairs I got hit by a flying matchbox car because this is the place that parents like to take their free range kids and let them run wild, not totally the fault of the business but you should know that before you go. There was a band playing so it was so loud you couldn't hear the person next to you, even upstairs. We had a couple beers and some food, then the drunk waitress/bar tender came up with a tip jar for the band. We tipped, they weren't very good but we tipped anyway. My girlfriend ordered another beer while she was there. So 10-15 minutes go by and still no beer. The waitress came back, drunker then before with the same tip jar. We told her that she was just here and we tipped and also ordered another beer. So she left and came back with a beer about 5 minutes later. Instead of putting it down on the table like a normal person she poured it all over my grilfriend's lap. She just looked at her and walked away, it was obviously on purpose. I don't know if she did it because we didn't tip the band for a second time within 15 minutes or because we had the audacity to order a beer in a brewery. Either way, we haven't been back and probably won't, they treat customers like they are a burden. I do not reccomend this place to anyone. If you want their beer buy it in the store, don't go there to eat.

"The Brewery" is one of my favorite places to visit while in Hamilton. It's a great place to catch up with friends, mingle with locals, catch a great band or enjoy some delicious food. This family owned business has been a Hamilton institution for many years. They have an established set of regulars that you'll run into again and again enjoying a brew, but they always welcome newcomers with a smile and a great suggestion for a delicious cold beer. Their award winning beer is delicious. Standards such as the Sawtooth, Nut Brown and Single Hop are always solid choices, but I usually like to try the whims and seasonals on tap. I've yet to be disappointed by a suggestion from the bartenders and I've broadened my beer drinking horizons! The new menu boasts juicy burgers, wings and tacos as well as plenty of options for kids. The daily special always includes creative flavor combinations and plenty of fresh and local ingredients. Entertainment ranges from live music and special dinners with beer pairings to game nights and fly tying. Of course you can always stop by just to relax with a cold beer. Can't go wrong with Bitter Root Brewing!

Had the sampler, which was all 10 of their current brews. Favorites were the huckleberry honey, nut brown, and the single hop. Best veggie burrito I've had in a long time. Had them add cilantro and jalapeños and omg..yum. Thanks for the hot jalapeños! We love spicy food and these jalapeños lit us up just like the ones we have in Texas. The chips and salsa that came with were divine. Really don't think i could duplicate the salsa, it was that good. Fish taco was napa quality, very good. Service was attentive and helpful..perfect.

I had read up on Montana brewery laws because I couldn't figure out why the pubs closed at 8pm so was only a little confused about the beer vs. food ordering. I could see others who didn't understand but the waiter was spectacular and simply smoothed over the uncomfy bits and made everything groovy. The turkey burger I had was one of the better I've had the pleasure of inhaling. And I don't know where they rustled up the bun but it was super duper. The other meal was a chicken ceasar wrap and while it looked wimpy from a distance it was rumored to be packed with chicken. (Unable to verify the rumor, I was too busy shoving turkey and maple bacon down my gullet.) But you're really here for beer and you're really here for good beer. Never fear, good beer is here!!! A local at another shop told us that they never realized how good Bitterroot Brewing beer was until they went somewhere else. Funny, but true.

This place has the BEST food in town! You usually don't get that at places that specialize in beer! Great service and the owners are so personable and go out of their way to make sure you are having an awesome experience! Price point is good and it's definitely a must visit if you are passing through and if you're a local it should be a regular spot!

Great food and good beer. Nachos are huge and tasty. Loved the Sawtooth and Huckleberry pale ales. Will definitely add to my list. During or meal there was an excellent local band.

This is our favorite place to stop on the way home from our cabin. Have yet to have a bad meal. The chef really does a great job coming up with new spins on old classics like a regular cheeseburger. The atmosphere is fun and relaxing, and the staff is very friendly and attentive. Oh...and their beer is fantastic. Good food...good beer, what more can you ask for in Montana!

I might be a little spoiled living in a great brewery town like Denver, but I felt this place was just OK. All the locals I know in the area had me thinking I was getting ready to go to some sort of beer heaven. The Nut Brown was alright. I wasn't a fan of the other couple of beers I tried. It was the Huckleberry and something else?(Don't remember) The 4 beer max while in the brewery I found interesting. I guess it's a law in Montana. Not a bad idea considering the way a few people in Montana like to get black out drunk and rack up multiple dur's. I liked the atmosphere and will definitely go back next time I'm around. I will most likely just stick with the Nut Brown next time. I didn't try the food.

Beer: The obvious reason to come here, the beers are really good. I don't know a lot about hops or head or barley....only that it tastes good when I drink it. My favorite beer so far has been the India Pale Ale. If I'm just sitting around drinking with friends it's my go to. I also like the Winter Ale but it packs a heavy punch (finished with some sort of hard liquor) so be careful on that one. I'm not a huge fan of the Amber Ale, though. The good news is that they let you try a little bit of whatever you are interested in BEFORE you purchase. Food: They have a really good kitchen here. I never go wrong by getting the WHIM of the day. My friend had a duck confit salad with chocolate dressing the other day and I had a pork wrap with cabbage-relish slaw. I've also had their burgers, fish tacos, spinach artichoke dip, and hummus. I recommend all except maybe the burger. I'm a really finicky burger eater and I think no burger measures up to the Ray's Hellburger in Washington, DC. I thought the Brewery burger was a bit dry, but the flavor was pretty good. Plus they had delicious french fries going with it, which I was dipping in the spinach artichoke dip (heaven). Fish tacos are good in the fried or grilled form and not too pricey so I recommend getting multiple tacos. Service: The people who serve you are friendly and really nice. Sometimes when it's super busy, you need to go up to the bar and order yourself because it can get pretty slammed in there. Not an issue for me, because it's not a chi-chi place. Being a former server in the restaurant industry, I am always sympathetic of when waitresses are busy. I'm a pretty non-fuss customer unless you take 30 min to get my order or bring me cold food. They have never done that here so I'll keep tipping well. Atmosphere: The place is located in a warehouse and you can see the big vats of beer in the back. Like I said, it can get pretty crowded, especially on weekends or nights when they have a band so don't plan an intimate dinner here. They have unfinished concrete floors, open ceilings, and free popcorn which ends up on said unfinished floor most of the time. There are bar tops and also regular seats available. I've never had a problem finding a table but it gets tricky in the summer time when they have to open the patio and the upstairs dinning area. Pros: yummy food, beer, free popcorn Cons: loud, gets busy, limited parking lot

Two words: awesome burger. We went for a beer and decided to grab some lunch while we were there. The bartender was really nice: a good combination of attentive but not pushy. I had a new beer they were offering: the Harvest Ale, and was very impressed. I ordered The Bruiser, a burger piled high with peppers, blue cheese and carmelized onions. It was huge and delicious. I had the sweet potato fries, which were good, but I was jealous of my wife's regular fries, which were better. The food's a little spendy, but well worth it. Great atmosphere, great beer, great food and friendly service. Can't beat that! I'm definitely going back next time I'm in Hamilton.

This place believes in spicy (and this coming from a Texan). When you're referring to their salsa that comes with the nachos or in the soft taco or burrito, that's fine. When it appears unexpectedly on the (relatively small portions) of fish that are included on the fish and chips basket, it's less than ideal. At least the beer is inexpensive!

Came from out of town to the adorable little town of Hamilton, only to find this GEM. I'm admittedly a bit of a beer snob, and was ecstatic to find such awesome beer at this place. Only had the hummus, beet chips and a burger, but all were soooo delicious and definitely not the run of the mill food you usually find in small towns like this one. Our food was a little slow coming out, which didn't bother us at all, but the manager immediately came down to apologize and comp some of our food. What!? Hell yes! Can't wait to go back and try more things! Five starts Hamilton, five stars.

This is THE PLACE to be in Hamilton. I live in San Diego where there are incredible breweries on every block...and I come to Montana to have what I consider the best beer in the world. The food is incredible (great vegetarian options) and if you love live music this is the best venue in the Bitterroot valley.
