A friend and I decided to try Lydia's despite hearing mixed reviews about the food. We were seated at our table and immediately exchanged confused looks at the "antipasto" on the table. It was one paper thin slice of salami sliced in half, one slice of white American cheese sliced in half, two pickled peppers, sweet potato salad that was so sweet it almost hurt my teeth, two wilted green onions, a small salad, and three pickled beets!?! Wtf? We had to ask for salad dressing that wasn't sweet because we only got French, thousand island, and some gross concoction called house that was like both dressings combined with some mysterious chunks of cheese floating around in it. The best thing on the table were the hard as brick breadsticks wrapped in cellophane. After that mouthwatering treat, we decided it was too late to leave because we had already ordered and we stayed to try the fried chicken that people rave about in Butte. We then got greasy cold French fries, spaghetti that was salty and sour, and bland hard ravioli that had some kind of garlic butter on it. The chicken was actually good but still very salty and not worth the price. I have no idea what people are talking about when they say Lydia's is a must visit. I lived in the south all my life and I never knew it was possible to go to a restaurant and have bad food until I moved to Montana. Lydia's is NOT an example of good food and I laughed when I saw that it was labeled " Italian " cuisine.

Ok when I first walked in I relized I was under dressed. So I ate at the bar. The restaurant appeared to be clean and upscale for Butte. I was wearing jeans and a short sleeve T shirt. I think jeans and a polo shirt would be perfect. I decided to order the steak Attila. It comes with plenty of sides. You get the main course with fries, a salad w/bread sticks, spaghetti, and raviolies. All for around $27.00. The food was good but nothing to rave about. The staff was not the friendliest, but not rude, just blah they need to atleast act like they enjoy their jobs. I don't think I will return there, well atleast this trip. Still like always give it a try.

Superb food, especially for the house ravioli, I had to ask for a second serving. I ordered the dinner steak which is a tenderloin and it was TENDER! The dinner came with all sorts of things: salad with 3 different dressings, sweet potato salad, salami, cheese, anchovies, and scallions. Topped it off with a glass of red wine and that hit the spot. It's the kind of restaurant for special occasions or old retired people so a lone business traveler like me stuck out like a sore thumb, but who cares, the food was worth it!

Never again, been there before and was more happy than this time and that is only because of the genuine server Laura. Come to find out she "no longer works there" and I may never see her sweet face again! Don't eat there, they are substandard in every way. People need to step up their standards if they think this place is great. The food seems old and uncared

This place is amazing. The prime rib was great. It also came with spaghetti, ravioli, fries, and ice cream. I am definitely coming back every time I'm in butte. The server was also very good. I got the 15oz prime rib and it was larger than anything I've ever gotten at any other steakhouse.

Poor Service So So Food. The Manhattan was good. Not what I remember from my younger days when living in Butte. Not recommended

Enjoyed the retro feel. Nice linens on tables and high back velvet benches. The table was ready for us with the first course of antipasto. So perfect and fun. The lobster was cooked perfect.

Lydia's is one of my favorite places to eat. When you arrive your table is adorned with an array of antipasti(anchovies, salad, carrots, green onions, breadsticks, sweet potato salad, salami and cheese and pickled beets). The pickled beets are amazing. I usually get the surf and turf or the chicken Milan. The main course also comes with red and white spaghetti, ravioli, and for some unknown reason, French fries. For dessert, which is also included, you get your choice of ice cream and wafer, with coffee or tea. The atmosphere is low lit and velvety, with stained glass everywhere. Enjoy!

Food was good. Not great. Service timing was way off. Coffee was 10 Minutes after we were served dessert. The staff was nice and friendly, so that's a plus. The lobster was slightly over cooked, but was still very good. The ravioli was the worst I have ever had. Hard and dry, like two saltines mashed together with glue. I will be surprised if this Butte icon is still open in 5 years. Barclay's II it is for me from now on

Overall it was a really good experience. The atmosphere has to be experienced. The restaurant was very well decorated in the 1960's to early 1970's and has not been changed since, but well maintained. It looks like you walked onto the set of Charlie's angels or another show from that era. The person who recommended it to me went over the top about the food. I was a little dissapointed but any restaurant would have had a hard time living up to what friend played it up to be. I have to say that this place is one of the rare gems left in America. Experience this place before anything changes. It truly is a blast from the past and a great overall experience, including the food.

I love the ambiance in this restaurant, and it has great history, but it was by far the most flavorless steak I've ever had in my life. I don't think it was even seasoned with salt and pepper. I had to smother it with A-1, which one should NEVER have to do in a restaurant. The pasta and raviolis tasted like canned chef boyardee. It's a great place to sit and lounge with drinks, but I won't eat there again. You do get a lot of food for your money, but the quality of the meal is very low. If they upped the ante with their food and turned the kitchen into a true fine dining kitchen, mixed with the amazing retro decor, this place could be booming. The service was good. Very friendly and accommodating staff.

I remember when I was a kid some 35 years ago that my grandfather would treat the family to a fancy dinner at Lydia's. I didn't realize then that I was experiencing something historic. Well now I return to Butte once a year for business at the college and Lydia's is a must visit. You get a meal in an atmosphere unlike restaurants elsewhere. It's the old fashioned supper club of yesteryear. A handful of colleagues and I visited Lydia's on a recent visit and we weren't disappointed. We all had steaks and they were great. All then stuff leading up to the steak was good too: anti pasta, salads, pickled beets, hot peppers, potato salad, green onions, anchovies and of course we finished with ice cream. This place is a must visit for anyone wanting more than a trip to Applebee's.

A long time ago before an open pit mine swallowed Butte's Italian enclave, northern Italian women owned and operated restaurants in Meaderville. They created foods that centered not on pasta, but on chicken, pork, beef and veal. Then their neighborhood was torn apart and Lydia's moved to the very bottom of the hill. At Lydia's, food is an experience anchored by the Italian history of Butte, and the talent of the famed Lydia Micheletti who immigrated from Sasso Ferrato, Italy to Butte in 1920. Beyond the history is the dining experience. Tall red velour booths coddle the eater while they relax and enjoy dinner throughout the evening. Each meal begins with antipasti followed by an entree of meat with sides of homemade ravioli and spaghetti. There is something uncomplicated, but unique about the food here. It is absolute comfort and prepared with love, for sure the measure of greatness for Butte's immigrant cuisine.

Very old school. Same menu for many years. Lengthy visits each time. Tough to get in and out within an hour. Open cafeteria like seating. Used to be the Butte standard 30-50 years ago. Food is still very good though. Service is good too. Went there as a youth in the late 70's and quite literally time has stopped. The lobby bar is a very quiet place to enjoy a cocktail.

Amazing Jumbo Lobster. Not inexpensive, but worth every penny! White spaghetti always great, as are the homemade ravioli, blue cheese salad dressing, and antipasto. Service excellent. A 'don't-miss' when in Butte. Casual dress perfectly acceptable. Don't miss their amazing collection of stained glass panels from around the world.

Eleven people with a reservation. One steak was over cooked and the service was very slow. Overall just ok

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
