Went out with my wife and adult daughter to dinner. Arrived at 8pm to our reservation and was seated immediately. Drinks and menus were brought quickly. (Great Bailey's Pina Colada!) We ordered various combo plates, as well as a large nacho plate and cheese sticks. Everything was appropriately hot and *very* flavorful! The servers Colton and Joey were friendly, smiling, and attentive to our needs. One can't ask for more than that. The only downside was my mud pie dessert was too frozen to eat, so i brought it home to have when it has thawed a bit. (Frozen but tasty!) The fried ice cream was a real treat! I highly recommend the restaurant. It isn't the "Old Dos", but time has a way of changing everything. Any problems they may have had seem to have been worked out. Well done, Dos Machos!

Spent 5 or 6 vacations in Mt. have not had a chance to go back for 20 yrs. Can't believe the current revues. It was the one must visit restaurant when we were in Billings. It saddens me to see the reviews posted. We were looking forward to revisiting Mt. in the near future. Guess we'll have to skip what was our favorite place in Billings.

Food was flavorless tasted like fajitas meat was boiled and not seasoned. The waitress while being quick had no idea what Chile con Queso was and offered nacho cheese instead lmfao. I know this is my first review but I felt this place deserved this review that badly.

We were planning on going to Old Chicago the other night for dinner. It was about 7 at night and was completely packed. Drove past and saw Dos Machos and decided to stop, as there were only a couple cars in the parking lot. Now I know why. The service there was AMAZING!! I think there were more servers there than there was diners. So of course, they were very attentive on what was going on at our table. As for the food, thats where the night when down from there. I have been to Dos Machos in the past and swore it was probably the best Mexican place in Billings. Whenever we had birthdays or family was in town, that is where we would go. We used to live within 10 minutes of there so it was an easy place to go. We moved so we havent gone in a while. But something has gone terribly wrong with this place. I had ordered the chimi con pollo, or I think thats what it was called. It was a bunch of boiled chicken in a flour tortilla, fried and covered with a chicken sauce. The chicken was the most dry thing I have ever had. The tortilla was completely soaked with as much grease that had been absorbed while frying. And the sauce tasted like canned chicken gravy that was watered down. I love beans and rice so when they asked if i wanted some, I was quick to agree. Not realizing its 3 or 4 dollars just for a side of beans and rice. The canned beans weren't even hot and the rice tasted like Uncle Bens microwave rice. My wife had a combo plate. The ground beed had a HUGE piece of cartalige in it. After seeing that, she really couldnt finish. We pointed it out to the server who apologized and offered to bring her another taco. She said no as she had already lost her appetite. The chips were not salted, the salsa was just tomato juice with some chucks of onion. There was NO flavor in anything we had. We had to stop at Taco Bell on the way home. It was better than the meal we just got done paying $50 for. What happened Dos Machos?

Really!? Canned refrained beans?? Hopefully it was just the day we went there.y husband chimi wasn't up to par. My fish tacos were actually good!! I have two stars for the canned beans and yes you could tell!!

My fiancée and I were just at this place this late afternoon. Let it be said that frozen enchiladas and chips out of the bag aren't our thing. Will definitely not give it a second chance

Guess it's a matter who offs cooking, the day your there, all matter what type of meal you will have the bad thing is you can make changes but our reviews last forever and out for all to see and kill a business. Do have them a try and can honestly say it's third in places I've been here Ann's very average at best. But wouldn't give it a death nail because we have others that are do far worse. Out first have the flavor wow factor

After an incredible lunch today, I had to write an update. Everybody's been telling me "You have to go back to Dos Machos, it's so much better". I was like, Pfffft, yeah right. No way in hell. Today my brother kidnapped me from work and drove me to Dos Machos against my will for lunch. The interior seems much improved. It's easily the nicest looking Mexican restaurant in town. But I remember the service and food from a few years ago so wasn't impressed... yet. Our waitress was on us quickly with our drink orders and back to get our lunch order. The chips and salsa seemed better and when I asked for the spicy stuff, she brought me out a bowl. And it was GOOOD! Ground Beef Enchiladas with beans and rice, smothered in the hot sauce she brought me, and oh boy was it good! I have no idea what changed at Dos Machos but I am happy to report that it's very very good.

Um. Yuck. A group of coworkers came here for a birthday celebration. That will be the last time. Cheesy, colorful decor. Slow service. Cafeteria-like food. Not a fan. At all.

I had a chimi with chicken and it came out with beef. Waitress quickly fixed it. Husband had the enchilada plate and it tasted like the kind you buy in the frozen food section at Walmart. Seriously. Husband didn't eat two bites. Rice and beans were good. We didn't say anything to the waitress but she picked up on him not being satisfied and took it off our ticket. Good service. Good atmosphere. Food was not so impressive. NOT authentic Mexican.....at all!

Carne asada is not on the menu. Music was authentic. The fajita double is insane huge & the price shows it. The Mexican favorite list included: stir fry, pizza, stroganoff... Uh, what? Yep, you read right. Still can't believe no carne asada, every Mexican restaurant has this!

  • Teresa K.

Seriously, on Mother's day, they can't even keep the buffet open past one?! No reservations are taken, and there's 6 groups in front of us. Going to leave for better accommodations.

In a word "Pa ..tha ..tic" I came here on a reccommendation. And boy were they wrong. The chips were out of a bag, the refried beans from a can, the rice was dry and tasteless and the "PORK" Carnitas were a blend of pork and beef. sad sad sad.

I remember the good 'ole days of Dos. Over by the mall. Spent a year working there during college breaks, wearing a sombrero for birthday mariachis and hawking those gawd awful fishbowl margaritas with the tiniest stems ever. Yes, I knocked one or two over on customers back in the day but always got a laugh out of it. And a good tip. Flash forward. The new Dos has the "I was a sportsbar in a former life" feel. Bar in the middle. Cheap seating. Nothing like the character it used to have. Margarita was average and the chips and salsa weren't like I remembered. I guess some memories aren't meant to be once you fly the nest and experience REAL Mexican and a great margarita.

Went here for lunch because it was handy to where we were.....shoulda driven a bit further...... They have one lunch special on the board, and everything else is off of the expensive dinner menu. BIG STRIKE! We almost got up and left as $11-$16 is too much to pay for lunch....but we didn't. I ordered a combo plate with one chili relleno and one enchilada, green sauce please, and all rice, no beans. What came was one skinny batterey chili with no cheese inside but with green sauce. Enchilada was barely passable with some sort of red sauce, very small amount of okay rice, and beans. NOT what I ordered. Oh well, we were in a hurry. DH's lunch of half a taco salad was dreary and nothing to brag about. They need to get with the times and have a lunch menu - not just one item. Server was nice but not overly friendly. We'll not go back again.

I agree with one of the other reviewers. This USED to be THE Mexican restaurant in Billings 20 years ago in their big, fun spot in the mall - but no more. The food is tasteless - honestly, do they just pop frozen pre-made portions in a microwave? Went with a friend at her suggestion - never going back.

The food is amazing and I am a regular there- 6 days in a row :) I always order the same thing :) The service is ok depending on the day but over all it is the food that keeps me coming back. It has a great style and atmosphere and the decor is wonderful :) xoxox Jenna

Like some other locals, I fondly remember the mall location, this is not it. And this is not authentic Mexican. However, my wife and three kids do eat here often. Something was going downhill. I had two bad experiences in a row and vowed not to go back. Well after a while we decided to give it a shot and it was great. Same food as always but service was much better. Maybe it's like throwing darts at a dart board as to whether you get good or poor service. I don't know but there was a period in Billings where everyone had trouble finding good help. There has been some cost cutting, no more live music on Fri or Sat night but overall, we enjoy Dos Machos. As far as memorizing orders, we have never ever had them get an order wrong. Sometimes they may come out for clarification but we have never had any errors with our orders, nothing memorable that couldn't easily be fixed anyway. We'll be back. I think the reviews are skewed down by folks from out of town who expect authentic Mexican and are shocked, and the lack of locals posting positive reviews because they got what they expected and have never heard of Yelp.

Good settings, but the food is average, not anywhere close to anything authentic mexican.Mexican enough for this part of the country. The waiters are ok, but the food is not enjoyable, with no flavor.

Could be better the food is average at best. I have had better on my other visits the service was very good to bad the food didn't match.

I really wanted to love this place because I grew up eating there. But I was a little disappointed. Although our server was very nice, she and the rest of the wait staff looked more like they just rolled out of bed than being ready to serve customers. Food wasn't terrible but very bland and it appears that instead of sticking to the tried and true traditional dishes, the menu has several things that are just not right sounding: Mexican stir fry with soy sauce? Bbq sauce covered fajitas?! Time to re-assess the plan Machos!

  • Scott K.

I was pretty disappointed in the quality of the food. Food was just above warm. Usually with mexican restaurants, the plates are hot to the touch. Not here, felt like they just took it off the shelf and put the bland enchiladas on the plate. Absolutely no flavor to the combo plate I ordered. Will defiantly try other Mexican joints in Billings before going back here.

I haven't ever had worse food of any kind. The rice is probably microwaved from a bag, drinks are watered down, and the absolute inexcusable item is they serve CANNED MUSHROOMS. DISGUSTING!! Costco is right across the street, there is NO excuse for bad Mexican. We even tried it twice and both times, horrible. Go anywhere else to spend money. ANYWHERE!!

  • Brad B.

You can tell a lot about a 'mexican' restaurant by the chips and salsa... generic yellow corn chips and doctored up Pace right off the bat. No pico or standard mex restaurant salsa, just that Sysco goodness. The rest of the meal was just as underwhelming. Dos machos has gone so far downhill that they rolled right past taco bell without stopping to take a few notes.

Service friendly, a little phoney and a bit slow. Food totally average, tortillas rubbery. Had lunch chicken fajitas and while I like mushrooms I felt they had no place in my fajitas. Atmosphere was ok, my 4 year old thought it was "beautiful" and my sister in law said it was "nice for billings".

Yuck. Boring, bad service, where is the manager?

Nothing to write home about, really. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't terrific, either. And the waiter was kind of annoyingly pleasant - if that makes sense.

Dirty fork. Never refilled water. Overly breaded rellenos. Boring salsa. Slow. Next time we will just go to qdoba for better food and service!

This place used to be located by the mall and for years they set the standard for Mexican food in Billings. Then they moved and everything changed. The service went from fantastic to just ok and the food went down hill drastically. On any given night the staff is typically young, inexperienced and just don't seem to care. To make things worse they have to memorize your order... you can guess what usually happens. I really miss the old Dos !!

Dos Machos is a familial institution for me. I have thrown change in the fountain and at the feet of the mariachis at the old, far superior location. My sister has ironically asked for the autograph of the owner while he was filming a commercial during Sunday Brunch. We have taken guests to Billings out to eat at Dos Machos for fifteen years. It's no frills Mexican. There are no fish tacos or pico de gallo or anything with lime zested chicken and cilantro. There are, however, some good damn nachos, burritos, and chimichangas in portions that will leave you cradling your distended belly as you barely squeeze through the door on the way out. Sunday brunch is killer. Best blintzes I have ever had that I didn't make myself.

The absolute worst Mexican food that I ever had anywhere. The service is right in line with the food.

The only reason that I would be giving any star to this place as its server joseph R was fantastic. Let me tell you how horrible the food was here. I started out with cold and broken chips with a red sauce that resembled catsup. No taste. Then, the Margarita came which was a liquid that was suppose to resemble a drink that tasted of lemon. Avoid:( Then the fajitas: oh boy! No taste! The beef was onions and peppers all looked like they were boiled. The price was way too high for the quality of food given. But what would you do, add more beans and rice to the serving to give it an image. Sorry but I had a bad experience.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
