One of the best seafood platters you can get in our area. Everything else seems a little overpriced but you can't really blame them. The economy makes it hard to stay in business I'm sure. Simply put, if I have the pocket and craving for REAL seafood, I come here.

Excellent food! I'm usually not one for fried food, but when in Rome.... I ordered the grouper PO Boy. The grouper was Fresh and perfectly fried. The bread was soft, yet the perfect texture. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the French fries. If you serve such excellent sandwiches, why slack on the fries? I was expecting fresh cut, perfectly fried French fries - sitting next to my fresh, perfectly fried grouper sandwich. The fries were an epic fail in comparison! 4 stars, nonetheless. This place is a must-visit if you're Ridegland, MS.

I miss this place, I ate there for years and the Po-Boys are the best. I must put Sal & Phils on my list for my next visit to Mississippi,

Excellent seafood at the right price. The atmosphere does not approach that of the Mayflower or Crechale's, but I'll put Sal & Phil's seafood up against either one any day. It is that good, and about 1/2 the price. Plus it is laid back, informal and you can stuff yourself with a boat of crawfish while your friend is dining on a perfectly glazed broiled redfish.

Crab legs and shrimp seasoned perfectly. Poboys are simply the best around. Service is lacking just a bit, but the food makes me keep coming back. Great place to get your grub on for great seafood.

5 stars for a Jackson staple....how the hell could anyone not like Sal and Phils? Shrimp Po Boy is the ticket here for me....if you like Muffalattas, S&P is the place for you. Both are outstanding. This food is good for the soul.

A friend and I tried a Shrimp Poboy from here last weekend, and it was HORRIBLE!!! The staff must have been smoking cigarettes, because the sandwich tastes exactly how cigarette smoke smells. I could not get pass the first bite. If we had not taken it to go, it would have been sent back! When we called to tell management about the food, the guy that answered the phone was rude and unhelpful. I will NEVER eat here again!!

If I could gave 3.5 stars, I would have because Sal and Phil's is descent. They are not the best or the worse restaurant in Jackson area, but the are pretty descent. I've been going there for years, so the kids that work there are familiar with me as I am with them. If I had to recommend a dish or two, I would say get the Royal Reds, Crawfish (fried or boiled) and last but not least- their BBQ shrimp. Deannie's in New Orleans claims to make the best, but I really think Sal & Phil's is waaaaaaaaaay better. Matter of fact, the last time we went there I ordered two batches. Their fried stuff can be a little salty at times, but not where the food is not edible - but salty to where you will need some cold beer to wash it down. All in all, my family are regulars there.

Here's the deal....you don't appreciate a good Po Boy until you move away to Texas and they just THINK they know how to make a Po Boy. Sad Sad Sad, I tell ya'. The secret is the bread. Nobody makes the bread like they do in New Orleans....oh wait...snap...Sal & Phil's gets their bread from....drum roll please...NEW ORLEANS. From one of the two remaining bakeries that make the real deal. Oh my goodness the Roast Beef Po Boy....dressed....was amazingly sloppy and good! Had to park in back at lunch time....but well worth it! Huge portion.

We always enjoy our food at Sal & Phil's. I'm a native of the Mississippi Coast and they have the best shrimp po-boy in the Jackson area, in my opinion. We also enjoy their crawfish and royal reds. HOWEVER, their service tends to be on the "just ok" side. I know we would go more often if the service was better and slow service might be a turn-off to some people.

Crayfish boot was very good: spicy and satisfying. Beer selection was also very nice. The other meals we had looked equally yummy and portions were sizeable. They lost 1 star for a fairly limited menu, especially when you remove the fried foods. The lost the other star for a poor excuse for a salad bar and pre-packaged (bagged) silverware.

Crawfish are big and spiced perfectly. Not a huge fan of crawfish but love them here. The thirty shrimp and a boat of crawfish, perfect end to a week!

Great portions at great prices. As good as you can get 150 miles off the coast.

Service ok. Gumbo excellent. Crawfish good. Shrimp Po Boy good, not the best but good enough for landlubbers. I had a muffelotta. Can't wait to get to NO to get the real thing. It is a dive and a very cute one at that. Felt like I was at a real fish camp.

My co-workers and I found this place by accident. We were originally going to the restaurant next door, but we weren't dressed for it (white table cloths). I saw the sign that said 'boiled crawfish' and that was it! I love this place! Every time I am in town for work, I will go out of my way to come here and I am not alone. When my co-workers came back into town again a month later, we hit this place at least 3 nights. The crawfish are spicy and amazing, the raw oysters are so fresh and clean, the hushpuppies are tasty and not greasy. This place converted a guy into an oyster loving/crawfish eating machine after the first time he every tried either!! In fact, one of my co-workers got a fried platter, and it was all great...not greasy or heavy for fried food. The staff is friendly and great, and we have never had bad service. Just went back again tonight, and I repeat...LOVE THIS PLACE!!

A co-worker who is a local took me here, it is local hole in the wall type place but the food was good. The appearance might turn you away but get past it and enjoy the food. The place was was older but clean. I had a salad and the Royal Reds, they were great. The shrimp were large and very clean. If I lived in the area I could easily be a regular.

I have eaten here for years. Since phil passed away and Sal has been ill, young managers seem to be running the place. The food quality has plummeted. The service is non existent and it is less than clean. My meal, which is the same thing I almost always order was so fishy it was borderline rotten. The manager told me I did not know what I was talking about. I told him to please let me pay my bill and leave. I came straight home and wanted to warn the people, especially the ones thinking the "living social" coupon is a great deal, to run, don't walk to a Captain D's if you want better food and service.

Sal and phil's is the BEST place for authentic shrimp Po Boys! We also get the 30 piece boiled shrimp. Re: the Po-Boys: bread is great, the shrimp is fresh and crispy, hot and juicy, and we just had a great meal there last week and again a couple days ago. We had gone to another place on old canton rd called Crabs Seafood or something that had gotten better ratings than sal and phil's but it was awful. Not fresh and fish smelled old and tasted old. At Sal & Phils there are a couple of younger guys managing the place now and they really care. I will be going back.

Great stuffed shrimp and crab stuffed jalepeneos. BBQ shrimp was WAY too salty though.

Sal and Phils is simply amazing! It has had it's ups and downs, but it's definitely up and staying up. The people that are running it, two guys, are doing good. The food is fresh and they have new things on the menus. They finally have draft beer and great choices of bottle beer, atleast 20. The pivots are always as good as they were 20 years ago and maybe better. I recommend this place to young and old and whoever wants great food for the right place. O, and did I mention FULL BAR. Go and check it out guys, it's worth every bit!!

I use to love this place. The last time I went is my LAST. There was food on the menu, stuck to the talbe, and all over the floor. We ordered what they say would relace the buffett because it was plenty for 2 people. Have you had fried food that has sat under a light for like forever...The food was pre cooked. It really was BAD. And the waite person was alsop slowwwww. I would stay away.

This place is ok. The beer is cold. The food is average.

Frankly, in the decade that I've been eating here at least twice a year, the place has gone down. Physically, it's just unclean. The food is not of the same high quality as it was before. I always enjoyed the po-boys, but I've had a couple that just didn't meet my standard---too greasy, not dressed when I ordered dressed. It's not as good as it used to be and I have no idea why.

Whenever I'm in town I always have to stop here. My family always wonders at my diminishing appetite, but how can I tell them that I love this place more than their home cooking. It has that old time restaurant feel and that is fine by me. You have got to try those jumbo red shrimp that stake claim to 'better than lobster.' They are just as good as lobster and taste so good you do not need the butter they offer. Try the boiled crawfish when it's in season or an oyster po'boy. The only drawback is the skimpy parking lot but it is well worth the trouble.

I've loved this place for years. Great Seafood in a casual atmosphere. Prices are affordable. Owners are down to earth. Full bar. Lots of big screen TVs. I like to go in the afternoon cuz they aren't as packed as they are at night. Sometimes you can't find a place to sit. Ignore the other review. Every place has a bad night once. They didn't tell about all the other times the food was great.
