I want to give Fat Tuesday's a much better rating than two starts because I really love Cajun food, and I really think the folks working there are friendly. But I can't. The food is OK -- nothing I would really take much time to brag about, though. I've had the red beans and rice, gumbo and even a few po boys, but the taste has been pretty bland each time. On top of that, the prices are a little outrageous. I blindly ordered a cup of gumbo to have before my entree came out, and later found out it was $6. Holy. Crap. All in all, I will be back to Fat Tuesday's on occasion because the people are nice and I enjoy any Cajun restaurant, but I really, really wish they would step up the flavor and come back to earth on the price.

This is a difficult review for me to write because I met the owner and he is so nice. I really want to give this place more than 2 stars, but I just can't. I started with 3 tamales and fell in love! Pure joy for my taste buds! When I told the waitress how good I thought they were, she told me they get them from Tony's (which is a tamale stand next door). Upon learning this, I made a mental note to myself to go to Tony's in the future when I want tamales. I'm sure I can get them cheaper by buying them from the tamale stand directly instead of going through the middle man. I was really looking forward to the open-faced roast beef. I specifically came to this restaurant because I heard they serve it and I was having a major craving for some roast beef on white bread covered in sloppy gravy goodness. When it was placed in front of me It looked so good and I thought "Oh boy! Oh boy!". I took my first bite and thought "Oh no!". I took another bite and couldn't even resist the urge to make a face. I was starving, so I figured I'd just make myself eat it anyway. After two more bites, I couldn't even force myself to eat it and I pushed the plate away from me. First of all, it wasn't hot. It was barely even warm. The roast beef itself was rubbery. The gravy was a disaster. The gravy is what made the dish unedible. I feel like that's really saying something from this southern girl because until now, I've never met a gravy I didn't like. On a positive note, service was outstanding! Our waitress was a doll. She oozed southern charm and was just a little southern belle herself. The service and the sweet owner make me give this restaurant a second star. If I were a gumbo or étouffée eater, I'd come back again to try one or the other and give this place another shot. Unfortunately, I don't care for either. Based on my main dish, I'm sorry to say I won't be back again. But thanks Fat Tuesday's for cluing me in on the goodness that is Tony's Tamales!

the fried oysters were good but the bread used for the po-boy was some kind of gummy substitute for French bread and had not been toasted well. Scanty portion of oysters for the price of a sandwich with no sides! I had the full size po-boy.

Fat Tuesday's is a seafood and lunch plate haven with a neighborhood feel. In the tradition of casual south Mississippi and south Louisiana local, family run restaurants it is easy to feel like family here. Strongly recommended are the daily lunch plates (I.e., fried chicken on Tuesday!). The fried shrimp are large and perfectly battered. The gumbo, a house specialty, is made personally by the owner according to his guarded secret recipe. He is picky because he cares. When he gives you heating instructions for carry out, listen. This man is a bonafide gumbo chef. The flavor is worth it! A well-kept secret is the steaks, which are only available in the evening. The quality is comparable to some of the metro area's highest price steaks for half of what you would be charged elsewhere.

Bathrooms were disgustingly dirty. The server was intoxicated. And the food seemed unsafe to eat. I would never bring a family to this place, let alone any person that I actually like. As someone from Louisiana, I can tell you that this is not what Cajun food and culture is about. I was immensely disappointed in this restaurant. I wouldn't go back unless it changed its name and had a new owner.

Very poor quality food. For being so close to Cajun country how could they have gotten it so far off. I've had better gumbo made by Lebanese cooks working in Nigeria ...and it wasn't good. There are several seafood restaurants in the Madison/Ridgeland area, any one of which is better that this grease pit. Fried. Fried. The only saving grace is the senile man that owns and runs it. God Bless him.

If you're in the Jackson, MS area, I'm advising against patronizing a restaurant located in Ridgeland, MS named Fat Tuesday's. I ordered a cup of gumbo and crawfish étouffée, and both of these dishes were subpar. I mustered up enough courage to finish the bland gumbo but after only one spoonful of the étouffée, I knew it was too far gone. It tasted like water and onions, nothing more. I asked to exchange the entree but was denied by the waiter. The owner then tells me "there's nothing that I can do. I'm sorry." If you were planning on trying this restaurant, save yourself the money and headache and don't.

Always awesome. John has the best fried Oysters and the tarter sauce is one of a kind. Dark roux gumbo is fine. Great steaks at very reasonable prices. Can't say enough good things about these guys. We eat here often.

OWNER IS CRAZY!!!!!! Screamed and cursed at us the the parking lot at 10am because we were dropping off one car to go pick our child up and return!!!! He literally came out into the parking lot aggressively trying to start a fight with my husband, who was trying to be as nice as possible and even apologized!!! We have spent plenty of money in this place but never again!!!! BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!

Fried Chicken, Shrimp PoBoys. Burgers that are great. These are the foods I love when I'm at Fat Tuesday's. Family Owned for years, this is their second location. It's quaint. And the food is wonderful. After readings the negative reviews, I am amazed at what they picked to focus on. A guy not knowing that there are minimum charges for credit cards or cups of gumbo that aren't free. Regarding the red beans and rice, yes....the sausage is served on top of the entree. Yes, it takes utensils to cut it. But the sausage is excellent and the rest is delicious. The gumbo is delicious and served with generous portions of seafood. The serve Pepsi products on tap and Barq's root beer in the bottle. The ribeye is good, the catfish is too. I have been coming there for over 20 years and if there is a better PoBoys within 50 miles, I don't know where it is. And their cU back sauce.....worth buying and taking home.

I thought that the food wasn't bad. The catfish was good. My wife and I have enjoyed our meals there -we've been twice.

It's a shame there isnt a decent authentic cajun restaurant in Jackson. The place is decorated with cheap plastic trinkets from New Orleans for sure and the menu has cajun offerings, just very bland variations on them. If you want sausage in your red beans in rice its grilled as a slab and placed on top of the beans & rice. It's quite a feat to ask for an additional plate & butter knife to try and cut the sausage. You cant do it in the dish without sloshing beans unto the table. Some items like Crawfish Etoufee you cant get for lunch. So the service is generally very UN-accomidating and unwilling to try to spice anything up or please the customer. Everyone I know has had a similar miserable experience. Your first visit will be your last.
