2 Sister's Kitchen in Jackson, MS. What can I say, but.... Aaaaaaw laaawd! DO NOT leave this place w/out having some of Diana's bread puddin'!!!!! Had Sunday buffet, got there just before closing & were welcomed by 2 sweet southern ladies, one was Diana, the other I'm not sure about, probably one of the sisters. Clean, quaint, street & private lot parking & service with a smile. Food: Had the self-prepared salad w/ all the fixins-veggies all cold, crisp & appropriately cut to size. Fried chicken-tasted like a salt & goodness brine, crumbly dark fried skin, moist chicken breast (I purposely chose a smaller piece, larger pieces available & ur not limited to one). Cabbage-stewed to a perfectly seasoned al dente state. Black-eyed peas could have used a bit more salt, but were cooked for the appropriate length of time. Greens were riiiiight. Fried okra was well battered & no slime. For that reason I don't mess w/ just anybody's okra. My only disappointment was the cornbread-just wasn't my thing. But, that chicken would have made up for anything. Dessert: We got the peach cobbler-was slap yo momma good. Hubby said he wished he'd gotten a 2nd one. Banana pudding-I would DEFINITELY order again. BREAD PUDDING.... Award winning & personally made by Diana, was ON HIT!! I might let somebody open hand, slap my momma! JK! You put your filthy mitts on my momma & it's on & poppin! But, it was really good. Diana insisted we have some for free when she saw I was pregerz & found out we were on a nationwide food tour. Also gave us the peace officer's discount due to hubby being a FF & made helpful suggestions on where else to go while we were in town. Super sweet ladies.

Fantastic customer service. I was told to visit Two Sisters for the "best fried chicken in the country"! Well, I would not go that far. The chicken taste a little like KFC to me. Never the less, I had the best fruit salad, the best country fried steak, some great bread pudding as well. I would certainly return, they were so very kind and helpful to me.

WOW - I put this meal in myFitnessPal and it shut down. Sure, this isn't the type of place you visit when you are on a diet, but it's definitely the place you visit for some real deal soul food - and to get your money's worth! It's inside of what I assume used to be someone's home - as soon as you walk into the living room (?) you see a full on buffet with a variety of delicious options - most of which are fried. Fried okra - I've actually never had this - and as everything fried you try for the first time...it was great! The chicken casserole was incredible. No idea what was in there but it was great. Shredded chicken combined with some sort of sauce and topped with the breading from the fried chicken. I might of gotten more than 2 servings of this. Rice was great. What makes rice great you might ask? Well, I threw some gravy on top of it. and right next to the gravy rice I had stacked some buttery biscuits...which were dipped in the extra gravy. YES! The star of the show here was the fried chicken - the hunt for wings was very serious --- had 2 wings and some thighs. The gentleman that was before me was a little bit of a jerk for literally taking EVERY SINGLE WING on his first go around. Not knocking Two Sister's for this but please guests....you can get a second fill on the next go around. Don't take all the good stuff so other's have to wait. AMAZING service - filled my sweet tea non stop. The lady would also bring people fried chicken so they wouldn't have to wait. You end the meal with a dessert of your choice. Went with the banana cream. It was fresh, and delicious. VERY easy to over eat here. I rolled down the stairs, into an Uber, to the coffee shot and off to the airport. I REALLY needed that coffee to not fall into a food coma. Recommend this spot to anyone! And I'm really stoked I finally got some authentic soul food while in Jackson - which is one of the main things I was excited about when I found out I'd be visiting often. Will deff be back!

Came here on a recommendation. Skinless fried chicken was very tasty and tender. Peach cobbler bread pudding apple crisp for dessert very good! Situated in a quaint little house on the edge of downtown if I ever came back to Jackson I would come here again.

My boyfriend and I went to this restaurant this morning. The food is really good. My boyfriend really liked the chicken(btw, he is very picky). I enjoyed the vegetable soup ---MUST try! The service is great. You do feel welcomed from the moment you arrive at the house( restaurant).

My Husband and I read great reviews about two sisters in Jackson Mississippi,so we decided to give this place a try.We are from California. The food is okay and the chicken is great. When we were seated we received our drinks from the bus boy not the waiter. There was only 1 waiter and she never came to our table to ask us if we wanted water, tea, etc. I used the same napkin which was already on the table. When I finished my food I approached her about the matter, she was very apologetic and said she thought we were ready served. I was very upset. I will never go back

I really don't get the hype. It's decent food similar to Mama Hamil's. However, for as much as it cost, I didn't think it tasted that great. First of all, if you've never been here, it's very hard to know what to do. You walk in the front door and you're immediately in the buffet serving area. The woman at the cash register told us to get a plate and start. However, I was unaware if it was a buffet. So I got her to explain how it worked. Some signs (including the price) would be nice. It's a little over $13 but you don't really know that until you leave. That $13 gets you unlimited trips to the buffet, salad bar, a drink (lemonade or tea), and a dessert. The food was ok. The vegetable of the day was fried squash. I had some fried chicken, rice and tomato (and steak) gravy, grits, the fried squash, and biscuits. The biscuits and fried squash were really good. But the rest was underwhelming. For as much as I've heard about this place and its legendary lunches, I guess I was expecting more. The fried chicken was decent; however one piece was burnt and the other had a hair in the breading. My friend said it tasted just like KFC. The grits were consistent with the ones you are able to make at home, and the gravy and rice were ok. I made the mistake of ordering the peach cobbler (it seemed like canned peaches, the syrup from said can, and a cobbler bread topping) which paled in comparison to the homemade one I made with fresh peaches the other day. I guess I'm just shocked at what I hear about this place and expected AMAZING southern cooking. Like just be a better cook than me, please. I'm not that good. All that being said, it was ok. If you're not looking to be overwhelmed or underwhelmed, but just whelmed, go in to this place without thinking of all of these great reviews and everything you've heard from Rick & Kim and your mom's friends. It's just a restaurant that serves a standard lunch buffet that is food similar to what you're used to eating (Mississippians). I will say, their bread pudding is the best bread pudding I've ever put in my mouth. I do want to end on a positive note because I hate coming across as a negative Nancy. I've had it at little food events around town, and I had some of my friend's. She offered. I was eyeing it like crazy and not touching my peach cobbler. There are two sauce options, I think I like the bourbon the best.

Excellent home cooking and sax player on the patio. Looking forward to going back the next time I'm in Jackson. Walked into the old Victorian home to find the buffet. Invited to help ourselves. No menus needed since Wednesdays are fried chicken days. There are different courses depending on what day of the week it is. Took our plates out to the large patio with sax playing in the corner. Drink requests are taken at the table. Service was great.

BEST-FRIED CHICKEN EVER!!!! We were greeted by the two sisters upon entrance with a friendly hello. The house is pretty rickety but that is part of its charm, I guess. You enter and there is a small buffett to the right of the entrance. You name the soul food, they had it: fried chicken, bbq, fried okra, corn, macaraoni and cheese, grits, collards, yams, mashed potatoes, corn bread, etc. It was a Southerner's soul food dream. And if that doesn't make your mouth water, the desserts sure will. Two different bread puddings with your choice of bourbon sauce or white sauce, peach cobbler. I had a helping of all three. YUMMY!!!

Definitely one of the best fried chicken joints in a city of fried chicken joints. It competes well with the best of the gas stations, grocery stores and upscale restaurants. Lunch here is a Jackson staple. It is buffet style for $15 that includes tea and a dessert. This is a little pricey, maybe, but tip is also included so don't feel bad about just dropping a five and a ten and rolling on out. The buffet makes it easy to get in and get out. They put out whatever they have, but it is generally the standard greens, okra, sweet potatoes, cornbread, etc. Not a whole lot of it is supremely fresh in house cooking, but sometimes you get fresh tomatoes or black eyed peas not from the can. This is acceptable, I feel, as it is counterbalanced with the freshly fried chicken. There is plenty of seating, including a huge covered patio, at this old house-turned-restaurant. It is one of the most southern feeling places in Jackson, and sipping tea there on a warm summer days gives mea most comforting feeling. The location is good, the quiet side of downtown, near a school and a bunch of law office (also in gorgeous old houses). It is easy to get to and street parking is abundant even on a busy day (the parking lot behind is pretty small). Go ahead and get down there for lunch - you'll feel more southern afterwards!

Not as good as they say. The church crowd and the hang-over crowd around jackson rave about Two Sisters. But why? First, its a mad house: babies yelling; people stomping up and down stairs; cashiers with blank expressions; elbows. This ravenous mob is all congregating around a tiny buffet set up awkwardly at the edge of the building. Second, their claim to fame is their "tomato gravy." It is a sloppy-putrid mess more than anything else recognizable. Thirdly, the veggies are boiled to mush with little or no seasoning (or grease). It would be hard to distinguish field peas from the salisbury steak. Finally, the chicken. The chicken is actually rather nice. It has an original flavor that somewhat resembles Kentucky Fried Chicken. However, its not quite good enough to overcome the other failures outlined above. I guess you need to be from Jackson to acquire a taste for this place?

While working in Jackson over that past two years, I was lucky enough to have an ongoing amount go visitors from home (Boston and Los Angeles). I made it a point to take as many people to Two Sister's Kitchen as possible. Firstly, this place is absolutely adorable - it's an multi-level home that has been converted into a lunch gem. It's basically a Southern Buffet with all the stuff you want when you visit the South: Fried Chicken, grits, fried okra, greens, biscuits, biscuits, and more biscuits. It is just SO GOOD. I saw some reviews about the 'awkward' set up of the buffet, which on my first time here, I can understand where people are coming from. There isn't a whole lot of instruction on what to and not really a line at the buffet - unless you want there to be. The atmosphere is very casual. Treat it like dinner at your family's house (unless your family is very strict about seating and meal arrangements). When you get to Two Sisters, pay for your plate, get a plate, and just go to the buffet and get what you want. Then, take your food to any table, sit down - and servers will come take your drink and dessert order. The parking lot is always full, but there is plenty of street parking. They are also closed by 2pm most days, but that just means food is always going to be fresh!

If you love real Southern cooking (and if you don't... what's wrong with you?), then you need to make it a PRIORITY to visit Two Sisters' Kitchen. Nestled in a cute, quiet part of downtown Jackson, Two Sisters is located inside a small house, which only adds to the charm. There are several stories you can choose between when you sit down, but I prefer to sit on the patio. It's lovely in the spring or summer. The atmosphere is very Mississippi-- it's casual and friendly with plenty of "y'all's" and "yes ma'am's" to be overheard. As much as I love the atmosphere (though some out-of-towners might find it strange), it's the food that draws me back again and again to lunch at Two Sisters. Lunch is served buffet-style. The menu changes from day to day, but there are some standards you can pretty much always find here including fried chicken and catfish. It's SO. GOOD. I mean, it's hard to go wrong with fried chicken or fried catfish but Two Sisters does a particularly great job. It isn't too greasy or overcooked. There's always a variety of vegetables and sides to choose from, including greens (collards, usually), green beans, black eyed peas, hush puppies, fried okra, biscuits or buttered rolls. Everything tastes like it was home-made by someone's mama, which is a sincere compliment coming from me. I guess my only complaint is that it's WAY too easy to overeat at Two Sisters. It's definitely not where I'd go for a "light lunch." I always try to introduce friends to this place, since it's one of my absolute favorite lunch spots and a genuine Jackson gem.

On my way from Memphis to Biloxi - driving down the 55 - and being in the South for the first time ever, I get on my phone and Yelp myself a southern restaurant in Jackson and found Two Sisters' Kitchen. They are only open for lunch, so I had to book it down to make it in time to grab a bite there. I am so glad I made the detour to stop at this spot! The fried chicken here is heavenly! It is crunchy while still being tender and juicy and so full of southern love. I eat a lot of fried chicken and one would think there could only be a handful of ways to cook it - but let me tell you - there are an infinitesimal amount of techniques and seasoning combinations to cooking good fried chicken. It is very obvious that the proprietors have been working on the recipe for a long time - and this rendition is one of the most flavorful fried chicken I have had. Must try: *Fried Chicken *Biscuits and Gravy *Cornbread *Fried Okra - since its still a veggie so its healthy

Do you like home cookin? Do like buffets? Do you like the most friendly staff on the planet? Then go grab some grub at this place. Awesome atmosphere. It's in an old house in downtown Jackson. The food reminds me of how my mom used to cook. Only better. Don't tell her that.

The Best Fried Chicken and Hush Puppies ive ever put in my mouth. Oh yea, rolls that seem to be dunked in butter.... #HeartAttack #Delicious #Mississippi #JacksonMS #TwoSistersKitchen #FriedChicken Greeted at the door by the owner. She was shaking hands with everyone. It was a great atmosphere and very old time south feeling. To top it off the food is so off the charts delicious! Go now and go fast!!!!!

We were driving on through Jackson so I looked up what's good to eat and this place is supposed to be the bomb-diggity. We stopped in minutes before they opened on Father's Day, and there were maybe 10 ppl in line already. We soon filed in and filled our plates up at the buffet. My favorites were the grit cake, greens, fried okra... the fried chicken was just alright, though maybe because buffet style isn't the best way to do it. They also have a pretty good salad bar, which we loaded up on since I haven't seen that many vegetables traveling thru the south all weekend. The dessert choices were overwhelming, but we went with the bourbon bread pudding and banana pudding, both of which were wonderful. The staff is as sweet and welcoming as you would expect from a place called Two Sisters' Kitchen in a big ol' house in Jackson, Mississippi. Our waitress kept the iced tea flowing, and encouraged us to get another plate or two. There's also a huge patio area for those who care to brave the heat, and what seems like a stage for live performances. Great place to get a real feel of Southern hospitality (and cooking)!

Prices are a little pricey for buffet lunch with only 2 meats ...... and one of those was fried chicken .... ??? .. !!!! what da damn hell???? people come in and out of the place from different rooms ... hallways ... and doors they are not real organized .. ay least not to me i was looking at the buffet .... looking for the other meats ..... soo i settled down to eat with the fried chicken .... and vegetables ....rolls and sweet tea ..... i bit into the fried chicken .... DAYYUUUUMMM!!!!!!!! whewwwww that chicken was GREAT!!! the white meat was not dry ..... still juicy and kicked to perfection with light breading ....non-greasy and the skin was crispy........ it's not the best fried chicken i have ever had but my mind can't remember who i had that was better ,,,,, i really can't the rolls were A+ the vegetables were a solid B the chicken is now the standard bearer ,,,,,,, i had the peach cobbler A i also had some apple crisp A they are worth getting there between 11-2. they are closed after 2 ..... if you eat again that day .... it will be a light meal becoz you will leave stuffed the rest of the night. that fried chicken is really GOOD! REALLY GOOD!!! the veggies were slightly above average ..... they are a little disorganized coming in, for the newbies BUT they do have character ...... IF you don't like that chicken .. send it to me _ i'll pay for it!

I don't understand how they get away with charging $12 per person for food that doesn't even taste as good as school cafeteria food! Some of the food wasn't even warm, and the corn muffins are inedible. One star for the tasty sweet tea.

Pleasant surprise for two travels from NJ headed for Florida. Very authentic southern home cooking and atmosphere. We knew we'd enjoy when we saw how many locals were there.

The food was good , Southern soul-food, although a little pricey for a lunch buffet. However, the bread pudding with whiskey sauce was some of the best I've ever had! The atmosphere was very authentically nostalgic and relaxing.

$12.50 for all you can eat mm-mm goodness. Fridays are "Catfish Fridays", which I believe is $3 more. My friend and I were tempted for the catfish, but we opted out and decided to stick to the basic southern essentials: collard greens, grits, fried chicken, fried okra, among others -- smothered in gravy. Two Sisters' is the highest rated Southern restaurant in Jackson. There are plenty of others, similar to Two Sisters', but this place had the best ratings. From what my friend told me, restaurants that serve Southern food are normally open for lunch only since if people want to go out to a restaurant for dinner, they wouldn't eat Southern food for dinner (they can cook it at home!). This made sense since all the restaurants serving Southern food or Soul food closed at either 2-3pm, and some with extended hours around 6pm or so. Just to let you know, the $12.50 buffet "admission" also includes bread pudding and a drink. Being in the South, I had to make sure to have sweet tea with every meal. This was my last meal in the Jackson (before I headed for the airport), so I had to make sure to pair every succulent morsel with a sip of sweet tea. I had the bread pudding with bourbon sauce, which was tasty. I couldn't eat too much of the bread pudding because I was already stuffed after eating two plates of fried chicken, fried okra, grits, and corn... I probably won't be coming back to Jackson any time soon, but if I do, I know where to come back for lunch: Two Sisters! 5 Stars for excellent value, friendly service, and great variety of food.

  • Christopher S.

Short and sweet: Good southern buffet style food. The food is solid. Ambiance is really lacking - it is in an old house that needs repairs, with seating on multiple floors and not so great Air Conditioning (like someone having a buffet in their house). Its spendy. Sometimes, they have live music on the patio.

Great place to visit if you want great home cooked food. All the things I grew up with, black eyed peas, fried okra, corn, collards, cabbage and yes fried chicken. Service was great very friendly place, the day I was they're they had a guy out side on the sax.

A friend who used to work in Jackson recommended this place to me before I came down on business. He should have warned me I advance not to go before any boring meetings. It's buffet style. The setting reminds you of someone's house and is indeed in am old style house to maintain the theme. And the cooking...mmmmmm...goodness gracious the cooking. Just go...make sure you don't have anything planned after...unless your plans include a nap. I probably should fit in a 5 mile run too. I'm glad I don't live here...I'd eat here every day!

It's places like this that are making this pretentious northerner love the south. The fried chicken alone is worth driving 100 miles or more out of your way for. The sides, rolls, sweet tea, and bread pudding with bourbon topping make it one of the best restaurants I've ever eaten at. The service is incredibly friendly and welcoming. Some people complain about the decor, but I love it. It feels warm and intimate, like you've been invited into someone's home. Someone who is more concerned with excellence and hospitality than keeping up appearances. The kind of person who you should come back to visit again and again.

I was skeptical when I first walked in because it's a very small house. I can't even say that it was a house renovated into a restaurant because it's not. They set up dining tables and chairs in all the rooms, even upstairs bedrooms, set up a hostess podium in the front room, set up 2 buffet tables and there you have it. Like having lunch or dinner at someone's house. Don't let the unimpressive atmosphere stop you from trying the food at least one time if you're in Jackson. I am warning you, if you're not used to southern food, it will fill you up quick. It is a heavy meal. That being said, I tried to eat just one plate but I kept wanting more! Both the chicken and catfish could have been crispier but overall, it had good flavor and it was moist. The best part is that it didn't feel greasy and batter was light. Those were the only 2 main proteins when I went. The rest of the offerings were sides. Cabbage, collared greens, chicken casserole, corn bread, fried okra and hush puppies, beans, gravy, salad bar. I enjoyed the fried okra, gravy (a little kick), greens and buttery rolls the best. Finally, southern food that wasn't smothered in salt! Also, they have dessert set up in the back room but it's not all you can eat. The server actually fixes up a small bowl for you. A little odd. I wasn't impressed with the desserts though. I tried a bite of the bread pudding w bourbon and I've had better. It seemed to me like they used the bread rolls and added sugar to it. Nothing special. The peach cobbler tasted odd. I feel like it was the same bread roll and they added peaches??? Lastly, amazing friendly servers and cooks. Food was always quickly replenished! Keep up the great food and service Two Sisters. One of the gems in Jackson.

Let me caveat this review by admitting I am no southern food connoisseur, despite having lived below the Mason-Dixon line for the last 7 years. That being said, I do at least pride myself on being able to judge food that is or isn't fit for human consumption, so here we go - just don't be offended if I butcher a name for a traditional southern dish :). Ambience: Completely oozing old southern charm. Just when an out of towner begins to wonder if downtown Jackson might actually be abandoned, you find Two Sisters and know where everyone is - contentedly waiting in rocking chairs on the front porch, buzzing around the buffet tables inside, or devouring food at the outside tables while live jazz plays from the stage. Service: Beyond friendly, but of course that's to be expected here. We never found ourselves tapping our fingers waiting for refills - everything was prompt. Food: Deeeelicious. Grits + cabbage + stewed tomatoes, all mixed together - just try it. The baked chicken had a really nice seasoning and was cooked well. We got the banana pudding and peach cobbler for dessert - make sure you save room because both are legit - none of that Nilla wafer crap. Wash it all down with authentic sweet tea. (My 7 years in the South has at least taught me the difference between good sweet tea and bad sweet tea - this is the good stuff). Unfortunately, though the fried chicken was tasty, the meat was a little tough. On some pieces the outside was dark, like it had spent too much time in the fryer. So thats the star ding, since fried chicken kinda seems like a staple. Other than that, everything served here is Southern home cooking done right. Prices: Decent, $15/pop for Sunday buffet and unlimited trips. Just come hungry. Worth noting: Make sure you have time to squeeze in a nap after eating here. I've never met a good Southern meal that didn't require a little food coma shuteye :).

I visited Jackson for a week in July for a workshop and had to try this place. I ended up here for my first lunch in Jackson and my last. Two visit in a span of one week. The fried chicken was one of the best I've had, EVER (and I've had my fair share of legit fried chicken - Roscoe's, Merritt Bakery, etc.). My second visit was on a Friday so I also tried their fried catfish, which was good. Their all-you-can-eat buffet is a great deal and the selection is awesome. All you can ask from a Southern buffet. I really enjoyed their fried okra and mac&cheese. Their biscuits are so buttery, they just melt in your mouth. Cornbread could've been a little sweeter. The grits were really good too, and I learned the second time I was there that you can grab some cheese from the salad bar and add it on top of your grits. Amazing! The dessert selection is great - banana pudding, bread pudding, two types of cobbler. I tried the banana pudding first and the bread pudding with bourbon sauce the second time. Both were delicious, though I think I would lean towards the banana pudding, only because I'm not a huge bread pudding fan. Even so, with the bourbon sauce, it was so good. Overall, no visit to Jackson would be complete without having lunch at Two Sisters' Kitchen.

A classic and historical buffet style restaurant that has been around for 25 years. The place is in an old house and is like eatting a meal at your grandmothers. Decor is similar to Monell's in Nashville. The fried chicken can be rated as average; it's kept under headlamps as it buffet style so quality of meat can be inconsistent and some pieces are too dry and/or soggy crust. Overall, the protein needs more seasoning and I have had better fried chicken elsewhere. The normal sides (beans, greens) are good, especially the sweet yams. The place has good charm but the food is average.

What a place to satisfy your hunger! Beat the rush and arrive early so you can try the variety of home cooked offerings. They're all very tasty. No kidding...arrive early folks! We enjoyed every bit of this buffet style restaurant including the service that is worth mentioning too. Save room for dessert!

Buffet serving traditional southern recipes - the fried chicken was excellent with a hint of Cajun spice the rest was equally good. The major draw back was the cleanliness of the Resturant. If I would have gone to the rest rooms before we ate, we would have left.

I hate to give a bad review, but a girlfriend and I visited together for lunch at Two Sisters and we were both giggling (and gagging) the entire time on how stinky and gross it was inside! We felt like we could laugh about it instead of be mad because we came with a Groupon discount. If I had to pay the full price, I would have been pretty upset. It's bizarre to me that so many give this restaurant great reviews. A few weeks after our visit, another girlfriend asked me if I had ever gone to Two Sisters, and I told her about my experience. She said she just went, took her out of town family because of all the rave reviews, and was seriously disappointed. The fried chicken was good, but that's the only thing I found I liked. I would much rather go to Mama Hamil's instead. However, the service at Two Sisters was great...very friendly staff.

You walk up to a two-story house, write you name down and wait on the veranda for one top-notch meal cooked by some of Jackson's finest soul food chefs... now that's southern. Based in downtown Jackson, this place has been drawing large crowds for years. What's not to like about TWO SISTERS kitchen. Two Sisters has an amazing lunch buffet... Whether you favor fried chicken, baked chicken, cornbread, green beans, squash, sweet potatoes, black eyed peas, cabbage, turnip greens, sweet tea or anything in between - the list goes on and the food is sure to please! The chicken was crispy and peppery but not overwhelming. The black eyed peas were cooked perfectly, turnips not too salty and cabbage awesome... I have attached some photos. My friend Darrell went with me last time. He introduced me to a couple of folks in the restaurant who agreed Two Sisters ... (true SOUL southern cookin') is better than the restaurants of it's kind here in NY. Although, I have not been to those restaurants, I am sure they are fabulous but I am truly spoiled with the soul cooking in the bold city of Jackson, MS. LOL What a great place! I am going to take my out-of-town friends here for lunch any chance I have . Oh, and the bill is usually less than $10.

Starting at the Front Door with the lady with the Spiky hair, to our waitress, I'll have to call her Ms. B because I forgot her name. These two ladies were awesome, maybe they were the "Two Sisters Kitchen". Great Southern Hospitality. The Food was great great great!! Everything was well seasoned from the Fried Chicken to the yams and greens and black eyed peas and the biscuits were the most buttery biscuits I've ever had. The cornbread was good, it just wasn't sweet enough for me. If you work for an Airline it's worth flying there for a meal. LOL, (I'm serious). If your visiting the area you better stop by. 5 stars for me and my family :0)

This place used to be pretty good. I went there for lunch on Sunday and the buffet was wiped out. We waited and waited and they brought out chicken and okra but the creamed corn and rolls never came out. The owner acted like they had refilled it several times but she wasn't being honest as we kept trying for 45 min. The rolls came out after 30 min. As long as they have been around you would think they could figure out their food requirements and timing. Try Mama Hamils instead.

Ahhhh....cooking that reminds you of your grandmother. You can't go wrong with any of the meat, seafood or fresh vegetables that Two Sisters has on their buffet each day. The quality is always the best. The service is excellent. And the charm of the old house just takes you back. Can't find this anywhere else.

Good chicken, everything else was flavorless. Seems all the seasoning was put into the chicken. For some reason the bread pudding tasted better the next day after spending the night in the fridge. Then when I first got it at the restaurant. I'd come back but it wouldn't be on the top of my list.

First time visit of the establishment and being originally from a farm in Mississippi, I give this place 5 stars. The service was great and very hospitable. The food was delicious. Loved the cream corn and mash potatoes. Nailed them. Chicken was good but my bias side still prefer grandmas. Didn't stop me from getting seconds though. Even offer a military discount so give it a try if in the area.

Before my trip to Jackson, I saw Two Sisters' Kitchen listed on a "Best Fried Chicken in America" list. That basically meant I had to try it. When it comes down to it, TSK gets big points for authenticity. It doesn't try to be anything it's not or pretend to be in a place it's not. converting an old home into this restaurant was a great idea. You feel like your aunt is going to turn the corner and announce "dinner's ready!" at anytime, or maybe she's just going to stroll over and top off your sweet tea. I'm only giving TSK 3 stars because of 1) service and 2) I didn't think the chicken was the best thing on the buffet. Our waitress we very attentive and our glasses was never longing for more sweet tea. However, the for a popular as this place is, the staff seemed a bit unprepared for the volume of customers when we were there. We easily waited 15+ minutes just for more chicken to come out. If you're making lists for your fried chicken, you should be having these kind of issues. No amount of table service could surmount the absence of why you can to the restaurant in the first place. As for my second point, in my opinion, the cabbage is the best thing on menu. It should be the chicken. Honestly, if you do away with the wait for the chicken this place easily sails away with 4 stars.

I don't understand why everyone brags on this place. I'm vegetarian but I went with carnivores and they weren't any more impressed than I was - they said the fried chicken, which is what Two Sisters is supposedly famous for, was not very good. I didn't expect to be able to eat greens or beans, as they are almost always cooked with meat juices, but going in I was more than fine with my buffet line choices of mashed potatoes and gravy (made with a roux and vegetarian!), grits, creamed corn, and fried okra. Until I tasted it. I was raised in the south and I know what home cooking should taste like: this is not it. The grits and the corn were very lumpy, although they both tasted fine. There was far too much thickener in the corn but I ate it all regardless. The okra was burned, the potatoes were terribly thick and had almost no flavor, and the gravy was completely tasteless. Gravy doesn't have to have a meat base to taste good, but even salt and pepper couldn't rescue this stuff. A bit of butter would have helped tremendously, but they appeared to have used it all up in the lumpy grits. The cornbread muffins were a waste of cornmeal, slightly sweet and not at all crispy, and we kept watching and waiting and hoping for a biscuit but never saw any until we were paying our bill to leave. The servers were slammed so we ate half of our meals before getting tea, which was good, but I had to go get my own lemon when I realized she was never going to come back around. I chose bread pudding with bourbon sauce for dessert and I couldn't even force down more than a few bites - it tasted like white bread mush topped with sugar. When we asked about the other dessert option, banana split pudding, our waiter responded that she hadn't tried it. Ha! As we checked out we discovered the lunch buffet was $15. That's highway robbery for a lunch buffet of home cooking in the south. My advice? Don't waste your time.

The food was fantastic. Grits were perfect and not overcooked. The fried chicken was like my Momma's and not a bit greasy. Love the yeast rolls. The chicken and dumplings were perfect. And the bread pudding with chocolate sauce was to die for! The service was prompt, courteous and friendly. Our waiter was named Seth. Wonderful job. Tea glass was kept full and dirty plates removed quickly. Wonderful dining experience with very reasonable prices.

Typical southern buffet in a cozy location in the heart of Jackson. They always have fried chicken and some other meat available, but most people devour the chicken. They also have a small salad bar and several "southern" sides to choose from One could easily fill up on vegetables. You then take your seats in a room and enjoy the meal. Don't forget the dessert that comes with the meal, I usually go with the bread pudding.

Some of the best fried chicken I've ever eaten. Home style sides were out of this world. It's ridiculous buffet style "all you can eat" like nothing I've ever had. Colonial style "country home" atmosphere is awesome. Outside patio is great too. If you're ANYWHERE in the vicinity, I highly recomend.

My favorite meal in Jackson! It's a restaurant built in a house, and the staff definitely keeps up the homey feel. Rocking chairs out front to rock your fattie self on and more. Endless buffet of all the Southern comfort food you can gobble up. Highlights were the fried okra and the fried chicken. And you can't go wrong with the gooey mac n' cheese. Save room for the bread pudding with bourbon sauce though! They'll bring it to you at the end of the meal, so don't worry about it not showing up in the buffet line.

I am glad I don't live in Jackson because I would eat until I couldn't get in the door of this place. Two Sisters has one of the most incredible lunch buffets offering so many delicious choices that southern cooking has to offer. Fried chicken, roast chicken, chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, okra and tomatoes, fried okra and there was more on the other side. Compliment this with corn bread or dinner rolls, get a glass of iced tea and you are good to go...until desserts. Banana pudding, bread puddings, cobblers, Oh My! Everything is made fresh the old fashioned way. This is love on a plate,

Holy awesome Southern buffet. Tucked away just behind the state capitol of Mississippi is this gem in an old, wooden, 1920s or so house. Nothing is fancy about it, just a big wood porch, lots of peeling paint and sanded wood floors, and a buffet right when you walk in of fried chicken, fried catfish, and all the traditional Southern sides you'd expect. The key to their menu is they don't try to make it something it isn't, jazz it up and bring it to modern day. They keep the recipes simple, what they always have been, and they're just darn good. Whatever you do, make sure you get the bread pudding with bourbon sauce for dessert. And the fried catfish. And the collared greens. And whatever else you can stuff inside your gut.

Let us all understand what my three stars derived from? The food was OK. Chicken was good, and yes the breast meat was the best. Desserts? Well the apple crisp was the best out of the three. (I am a very great cook by the way) Now those angel biscuits were just doughy enough to push you into bliss. All the sides were good, salad bar too. Nice and cozy little environment for some southern cooking. Waitress was pleasant so I give it a good hospital food rating, except the chicken. Now the cons? The ladies running it only have compassion as soon as you put money in their hands after you eat, they are not organized which you definitely need to be so people will have somewhere to sit during hours of waiting for a table. This little buffet they have is very cramped while everyone are trying to fill these picnic-style plates they give you. Also thirty dollars for two people, is not worth it unless you are an individual that either cannot cook or doesn't cook......then you should feel right at home. I am never going back and I flew all the way from Texas for this.

I was on my way to William Faulkner's home in Oxford and it was Sunday so I knew it would close early so I only had time to get take-out in Jackson. I stopped in at a large home which had a small line out on the porch. I got in line and told a lady (who I was sure was one of the proprietors) that I needed take-out. She handed me a large styrofoam takeout tray with a lid and said: "if you can close the lid, we just charge one price." Oh, the magic words. I then went through the buffet and filled up on boiled chicken, fried chicken, okra, cabbage, potatoes, bread pudding, and sweet tea. Ah, the bliss. I imagine the experience is even better if you get to sit down in this charming home instead of eating your loot on the freeway on the way to Oxford.

Reminds me of the good old days. Staff was great, food was just like my grandmother use to make. If you like fine southern food this is a great place to eat. Only serves lunch and no Sat lunch.

Great value for all you can eat. All my Southern favorites. I ate the fried chicken, black eyed peas, fried okra and cornbread. There was much more on the buffet. The salad bar was not that appealing. The place is PACKED. We had lunch there and had to wait about 10 minutes. Parking can be difficult on those crowded days. The service was quick with our drinks and dessert. I had banana pudding and my sister had the bread pudding. Pretty darn good! So glad we went out of the way to go here!

Fantastic southern fare. The fried okra was tremendous as is the fried chicken. Shoot, everything I tried was very good. The staff was wonderful. Friendly, helpful, and very quick to refill drinks and help out if you need something. The only downer? The incredibly racist clientele! I am from the south and haven't seen such blatant racism in probably 20 years. A nicely dressed african american couple sat down at the table next to us, and the white folks at the table lodged a loud complaint, got up, and left. Good riddance. I was mortified and so was the staff. Aside from that, however, Two Sisters gets a solid review from us! Great restaurant!

Absolutely delicious! I love the environment- literally a home turned into a restaurant. The fried chicken is so delicious - crispy, perfectly seasoned, juicy. It is buffet style so you help yourself to everything: greens, hush puppies, casserole, rice, black eyed peas, so much more. I very much dislike beets but I have been converted! They were prepared with cinnamon & other spices - almost tasted like apple pie. Then to top it all off... the dessert is free! You have your choice between peach cobbler, apple crisp, banana pudding & bread pudding... ugh SO GOOD! I had both the banana & bread puddings... with the rum sauce on the bread... perfection!

  • Brooks B.

Good southern food buffet style however there are not many options. The restaurant is in an old dumpy house. The price is ridiculous considering its southern home cooking food and it's in the south. To pay half of what I would pay for a good (not great) steak for good fried chicken is a bit irrational to me.

Ate here a few times while working at the capital (it's waking distance across the road) read he great reviews but seeing as there is literally nothing other than fast food joints and the pub next door I figured the great reviews were for lack of competition. I was wrong. The really do have some of the best fried chicken. You can actually taste the spice and little kick in the breaking. Cole slaw was a sweeter kind. I had fried okra for the first time it was great but I have nothing to compare it to. $12 for all you can eat, drink and dessert too! They seem to always have the chicken, I had chicken fried steak one day that was also good, corn bread was a bit bland but their rolls were amazing. The bread pudding with bourbon sauce was fantastic (and I'm not a huge bread pudding fan). Great service the two sisters welcome you at the door (once you can fit through it) we always went at lunch time and the place was packed but the greeted us like we were the only ones there. We sat upstairs one day and I suggest if you are claustrophobic to wait for a seat downstairs. Waitress are super friendly and obviously born and raised in the south which adds authenticity to their offerings. I would obviously go back but it's one of those places you pack on pounds with each bite!

The place from the start seemed unloved as it was dirty and needed fixing up with peeling paint and cracked walls. Excited to try authentic southern food and reading all the reviews we were disappointed to find overcooked okra, okay fried chicken, all right chicken fried steak, hard as rock cornmeal muffins, tasteless peach cobbler and really soggy bread pudding. Overall the greasy food ended up making us feel ill the rest of the day. The wait staff while attentive were almost too much so making us feel rushed through the meal. We probably won't be back to Mississippi anyway, but that is probably a blessing in disguise.

The other yelpers have hit it, their fried chicken is perfect!!!! simply perfect, not too salty, the white meat is not dry - excellent sides - a pretty good salad bar for a mom and pop family business! Good sweet tea, the staff knows you after two consecutive trips. They rarely make it, but I love their spaghetti!!!! Definate must go to, if you are in Jackson, Mississippi.

Best southern food I've ever had. I am not a fried chicken girl but I had seconds, and wished I could fit thirds. Combined with the pudding, okra, sweet tea ... their lunch buffet is a reason to go to Jackson! It's in a southern-style house, which I imagine hasn't been changed much in 150 years! Yet it's still scrubbed spotless. Amazingly friendly and amicable staff - from the moment I walked in to the moment I stepped off the porch having digested the amazingness of Two Sisters in their rocking chairs ... I was charmed. :)

I loved the character of the old house. Fried chicken was great and yeast rolls were amazing! There was definitely plenty to choose from. Waitress was great also...will definitely be back next time I'm in town :-)

Absolutely delicious. Two Sisters' is a wonderful little restaurant, set in a repurposed two-story house just down the street from the state capitol. It's a little cramped, since the tables are squeezed into little bedrooms, and you might have to climb up and down the stairs to get to the buffet, depending on where you're seated (there's room on the porch, too). But is the food ever good. Meals are served buffet-style, with a menu that changes just a bit every day of the week. All told, it's $12.50 a head, and totally worth it. Perhaps most notable is the fried chicken. Lightly breaded and not too greasy, it was the highlight of my meal. And the chicken and dumplings was creamy and delicious. The sides weren't particularly spectacular, but they were mostly light (except for the fried okra, of course) and a good accompaniment to the meal. Don't miss the biscuits: airy and crispy at the same time. Tasty, tasty sweet tea that's not too sweet. And leave room for some dessert. They're not in the buffet, but provided by your waiter at the end of the meal. I took my waiter's recommendation and went with the bread pudding with whisky sauce, and I didn't regret it. Warm, sweet (but, again, not too sweet), and a perfect end to the meal. I'll be back.

Wow! From the moment we walked in to this ramshackled house, it was an experience! It's a buffet style affair, grab a plate and fill on up! We sat upstairs and our "server" was lovely and attentive for drinks and checking we were ok. The food was amazing - the fried chicken was so tasty - I don't normally like chicken gravy but this was something else! $25 for 2 for all you can eat buffet, soup, salad, dessert and drinks - with it being so tasty....... Don't miss it! The run down environment just adds to the charm :)

After doing a drive by tour of downtown Jackson on a rainy day, my cousin and I came here for lunch after reading all the positive reviews. This restaùrant is quaint and charming since it's in an old Victorian house. The lady at the register was quick but welcoming. My cousin was curious as to what they were serving so the lady of the house had a waitress walk us through the buffet aisle and explain each item. My cousin was not impressed. She did the math and said it was not worth the $15 per person and wanted to go. I wanted to give it a try so we compromised by asking if we could take it to go. They said "of course, fill up the (given) containers." Sweet deal. The fried chicken was cripsy, juicy, moist and full of cajun flavor. I love their dessert - banana pudding, bread pudding and something else. Frièd okra was good, but it would've been better if it had more seasoning. We shared the meal and had plenty left over!

The reviews are right!!! Awesome fried chicken. If you're looking for some delicious southern cooking this is the place. For dessert both the banana pudding & bread pudding were a great ending to the meal. Ya know the food is good when the whole dining area is quiet because everyone is eating, no time for chit chat!!!

Recently I drove across Dixie on a mission to find the best southern cookin. I drove down the entire east coast from DC to Miami and on through New Orleans for 2 weeks with only disappointment after disappointment. I had lost nearly all faith in my pilgrimage when, on my last day before I turned west to head back home in shame, I decided to give Two Sisters a chance. I was not disappointed. The owners of this place need to get in contact with every other so-called southern restaurant and teach them how to fry a yard bird. And while this place was awesome, I still love my Roscoe's House of Chicken in LA. =)

I'm not from around Jackson (or Mississippi, for that matter), but I was on a business trip and just so happened to be around. After the little 19 review mini hype I read about this place, I decided to give this joint a whirl. I drove around for a good 15 minutes, circling the blocks, thinking, "where is this place? I don't see anything that looks like a restaurant"...and you know what? It's because I grew up in California. Weird answer, right? That's the truth. When I found Two Sister's Kitchen, it looked like your average residential house with rocking chairs out in the front. It was as if you're going to dine in at one of your friend's house. The inside was like that too. They don't (or at least I don't see any) have anything like that back in the C-A. Buffet style. Everything here is all you can eat, with various types of chicken, yams, corns, soup, etc. The chicken was very well pampered with flavorful seasonings as if it was marinaded and slow cooked for days. Another was fried and was super tender. Mix that in with the potatoes and corn and it's a delicious combo of a meal. The corn itself is a treat. It has the perfect amount of sweetness and tastes and looks as if someone put a lot of time and work into its quality. Also, the folks at the restaurant was wondering why I didn't go for the dressing, "you're not from around here are you", they said. The waitress was kind enough to fix me a bowl of their most awesome dressing with cranberries (love the southern hospitality!! And the way they they described how they cook everything, you KNOW they love their food!). I didn't get the dressing/stuffing initially because it was almost all gone at the time (and no wonder!). The heat from the dressing mixed in with the cold cranberry was a delight!~ (wrongfully used tilde mark intended here)...and then the breaded pudding for the dessert....awwwww.. The bread was light and fluffy, but the pudding was thick and rich, it complemented each other very well. At that point, I think I died and went to heaven. The food was prepared with the utmost optimum care of quality. All that for $12.50 and a smile on my face...for realz??? if they didn't close at 2pm, I would have opted for more chicken in a heart beat, provided my heart would still beat after such a high cholesterol intake of massively delicious food...still 5 stars! Now where can I find a place like this back west???? Grrr...

Great fried chicken!!! If you don't feel like dealing with the post-church crowd on sundays, you can just get the whole chicken for like $12? and it's delicious. perfect breading (barely breaded, perfectly spiced). just dang good. would do it again if i didn't already gain 5lbs over the holidays.

As I followed my phone's map to Two Sisters' Kitchen, I wondered if I'd be showing up at somebody's home; it turns out that this restaurant is a large home that has been repurposed as a restaurant, which made the experience a bit confusing as I walked in the front door. Look past that because this lunch buffet is a dream come true. The fried chicken is magnificent, the okra has the perfect balance of crunchy exterior and delectable inside, the greens and cornbread were just right, the peas and cream corn were the best I've ever had, and the banana pudding was certainly homemade. The buffet offered plenty of non-fried options, but I don't know anyone who would go to a soul-food restaurant and skip over perfectly-prepared soul foods. Click on your GPS app, and make your way to my favorite restaurant in all of the Jackson metro area.

If you find yourself in Jackson Ms, you owe it to yourself to eat at Two Sisters! This is what southern cookin should always be. Fried chicken is seasoned to perfection, greens, black- eyed peas and cornbread are reminiscent of traditional down home Sunday fixins'. Be sure and for Kristi as your server... She will make you feel like family with her great smile and sweeet Mississippi drawl! Don't fear the buffet!

This restaurant is like a gracious genteel Southern woman. Call me a nostalgic romantic, but is there anything more beautiful than a Southern buffet served in an old house with faded wallpaper and peeling paint? NO SIR, there is not. Let's just take a moment, bow our heads, and say grace for some of the best, most tender, most crispy, most perfect fried chicken I have ever had. And this was a BUFFET, my friends. What else did they serve? Oh...maybe some gravy. Fried Okra. Sweet-ass tea. Maybe some hoppin john. Maybe some amazing creamy chicken dish with poppy seeds that was almost a religious experience. Aaaaand....(drumroll please)...THREE DESSERTS. Three fantastic, ooey gooey buttery fatty desserts. Banana pudding: yes. Peach cobbler: hit that. Bread pudding: I'm dying of Diabetes Type II and it feels SO GOOD. Come at lunch time to see the good people of Jackson sit a spell and rest their feet. This meal made me want to become Baptist, obese, and a proud resident of Jackson, MS. God bless, y'all.

These people have the best fried chicken I have ever had, along with a multitude of amazing country vegetables. The bread pudding with bourbon sauce was so good too! The staff is very friendly and welcoming. At $15 for a lunch buffet, I think it's a little pricey, but hey, I paid it, didn't I? At least you will definitely not leave disappointed!

$12.00 all you can eat. Or $12.00 all you can fit in a to-go-container. This place is awesome! Everything is home-cooked from scratch. And everything is cooked day of. The cooking staff continuously bring out new batches to replenish the buffet bar so the food is always fresh and steaming hot. For $12, you also get a drink (sweet or unsweetened tea), salad bar (but who wants salad when there is fresh fried chicken?), and dessert (I opted for banana pudding). I had to run to the airport so I stuffed mt to-go-container with fried okra, fresh rolls, corn bread, and 4 pieces of chicken. In retrospect, I should have just filled it up with chicken; oh well! As I was waiting for a fresh batch of chicken to come out, I munched on a good amount of okra to satisfy my hunger. Perfectly fried. *DROOL* While I was refueling my rental car, I munched on a wing. The meat just fell off the bone and the outside seasoning was perfect; not too salty but enough flavor that there was no need for additional sauce. The chicken is not battered much, so you don't get the typical crispiness of KFC or Popeyes. But I like the way the Sisters do things. There is just enough crust developed from frying but the meat stays moist and tender. Next time I am i Jackson area, I would definitely eat at this place. The restaurant is basically an old historic house and you are seated in various rooms. I would recommend the first floor living/dining room so you can get easy access to the buffet. There are also outdoor seating available. the waitstaff seemed friendly and they were consistently refilling everyone's drinks quite frequently. I think I could easily eat 10-12 chicken pieces (wings and drumsticks) here because of the lack of thick batter. We'll see how the banana pudding tastes when I land from my flight.

If I lived in the South I am not sure I'd be able to be healthy with all the cooking that would be available. On the way down to New Orleans we stopped here for lunch and got here right before closing time. The buffet spread was every unhealthy thing I love: fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, red beans and rice, barbecue chicken, grits, biscuits, just pure goodness. They make the mac and cheese just the way I like it baked with loads of cheesy goodness on top. The fried chicken was crispy and flavorful and I had about 6 pieces of it. The apple crisp was my favorite dessert, the bf had the bread pudding and enjoyed it. You serve yourself your meal and your waitress serves you dessert. The staff is all very nice and welcoming. The lunch buffet is $12.50 which was great considering how good the food was. Get there before 2 which is when they close. We got there in the nick of time as I would have been disappointed to have missed out on this food.

Definitely good chicken. Not the best I have ever had, but worth a stop if you haven't been there before. Everything on the short soul food buffet they have is good, but the biscuits there are literally the best I have ever had. I talked about them so much with the lady at the front door, that she sent me home with a box full of them. AMAZING.

Best fried chicken in the world. Seriously, I don't think you can beat it, it's truly spectacular. I miss it sorely! Everything else is great too, including bread pudding dessert with bourbon sauce. Greens, creamed corn, black eyed peas, greens, and fried okra are other favorites of mine here. The atmosphere is great, an old house in downtown Jackson. Strongly recommended.

I have no idea why this place is consistently named of the best southern food restaurants in the city. While yes the fired chicken is good, there are many other things that leave more to be desired. The buffet line is extremely small and congested even when the place is not packed. The Sunday buffet is over 15 per person with a drink and tip is not included. The black eyed peas and the turnip greens were out of a can and not fresh or even frozen. The bread pudding is good but not great. It blows my mind that people find this place on the best eats in JXN.

Wow great fried chicken! We have been trying to find good friend chicken and have had a hard time finding it. This place had great chicken and deserts! If we ever come back to Jackson we'll definitely come back!

Two Sisters is great! Set in a large old southern house in downtown Jackson, you can get lunch in a buffet style setting that will fill you up like you wouldn't believe. Very good southern style food. Cornbread, fried chicken, mac n cheese, greens - you name it. The options change out daily I think. Also unusual - it's vegetarian friendly! The veggies aren't cooked with meat like most southern cooking and still tasty. I think it's like a buck cheaper than the full buffet too.

This has to be one of the busiest and warmest places in downtown Jackson. It's a wonderful experience and I can't say when I have had such marvelous, friendly service and delicious, down-home soul food. I had heard of this place as a must-try in the downtown area, very close to the State Capitol. This is the place for authentic comfort food, served buffet style and assisted by some friendly staff. You just can't beat the $12 tab and the host of goodies you simply fill your plate with. Fried chicken that was fresh and juicy, not too much breading or coating, and a lot of it. Many sides were there as well --smashed potatoes and gravy, creamed corn, green beans, sweet yams, buttery rolls, grits, alongside other meats --that day it was chicken fried steak and fried catfish. I decided to stick to the fried chicken as my protein and not mix in some fish. Nevertheless I assumed that these dishes do change from time to time. The best part, besides the deliciousness of the food, was that this buffet stand is right smack in front, just as you walk in. How can you say no to all this splendor? A small salad bar was right next to it. with fresh greens and veggies, and even an ambrosia-style fruit salad that tasted suspiciously similar to my sister's family recipe I've been eating for many years now. (I just called her to tell her that her fruit salad was on the menu!) OK, so I was especially hungry that day. I did go back for seconds --some more of that chicken, and smashed spuds, both of which I doused with some Louisiana-style hot sauce on the table. Spectacular! So yes, definitely bring an appetite. The servers bring you some ice water and sweet tea, if you want it, although there are probably other beverages. Finished that yummy tea? Go on and pour yourself some more --it's up there on the mantle. We're not done yet! Once they clear your plates and you feel you can't eat anymore because you're gonna bust, the server comes by and offers you one of their signature desserts. It's lunch time and they got it right in terms of portion. I had the choices of cobbler, pie, apple crisp but I went with the bread pudding with whiskey sauce. Yes! Oh my God this was good. Again, a nice small portion that went down so well, and certainly had this taste of whiskey which added to the sweetness. I would say my only minor quibble with Two Sisters is the decor. This is a two story Victorian style home that has seen better days. Certainly there could be some remodeling to the walls, the stairs, some new flooring, etc. It is a spic and span place, but it could use a little upkeep to really make this an unforgettable experience. This place, nonetheless, is a must if you're in the Jackson area!

Had lunch here last week before i flew out and back to DC. The chicken has a little kick to it but not real strong. had a very good taste and the rice and gravy? i thouht i was back home at my mothers. Excellent and make sure you get the corn bread and a roll. the slaw is on the salad bar. The salad bar is okay not much to write about but the slaw is there. got there about 12:30 place was busy so we sat outside. it was 90 degrees but it was shaded and they have fans blowing. Also had a guy singing and playing a guitar. Could not even feel the heat. Will be going back next week for another lunch

I have to say that as a Southern Texas girl I have many preconceived notions of what southern home cookin' really is. I have given Two Sisters' Kitchen 2 stars because it just didn't stack up to what my momma makes at home. Everything is buffet style and serve yourself with the tab per person being $12...period. The fried chicken, while juicy and flavorful, had a crust that seemed overcooked and had an odd flavor as if something weird was going on with the cooking grease. The sides were are hand-made from scratch, but everything seemed a little over cooked to me. Things that should have been a bit more crisp and fresh seemed more soggy than anything else. The salad bar was nice and fresh and had all of the traditional southern salad fixins. I enjoyed the sweet tea (we know how to do it in the south...woo hoo!) and liked that it was okay to refill myself. There were many desert options to choose from, and while they all sounded delicious, I was again a little disappointed. I got the banana pudding and the BF got the bread pudding. The banana pudding was fine and just as it should have been, but I have to say the bread pudding was soggy and gross. I understand it is supposed to be slightly soggy, but it was heading more towards thick soupy than just soggy. The service was very friendly, and I felt the southern hospitality when I walked in. However the converted Victorian was in bad need of a rescue. The walls had cracked and peeling paint, the floors were stained from years of dirt, and there seemed to be a general lack of care about the upkeep of what appeared to be a historic/old home. I understand that older homes have "character," (I grew up in a century old home) but this just seemed like a lack of love and care. That is surprising however because it seemed that love and care went into the food.

Restaurant buffet in a house... Was very interesting, yet executed well. The southern "home cookin" was fantastic and the bread pudding was the best I have ever had. No one can do bread pudding like the southerners!

Really really good homecooked southern food with southern hospitality. The fried chicken is good but the herb baked one even better. Love the collard greens and the tomato gravy that came with the chicken fried steak. The butter rolls were better than the corn muffins (which I normally love, but here they were surprisingly meh). The sweet tea just perfectly sweet and the breadpudding is as good as everyone else has said. A must stop whenever I'm back in Jackson!

I adored the dining atmosphere. Its a two story home with plenty of southern flavor. I enjoyed the buffet because it allowed me to get my fixins as many times as I wanted to. The fried chicken, biscuits and bread pudding were my favorite items here. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the plastic plates, but everything else was great. This place is a must for anyone visiting Jackson from out of town. I love the south.

Oh my Goodness Goodness Gracious! When has such delectable home cooking ever graced a plate of mine? Eating at this buffet style restaurant, located in a slightly shabby Victorian house in downtown Jackson, is like going to visit your dear Southern grandmama, who loves nothing more than to sit you down and load up a heaping plate full of deep-fried Southern goodness to set down in front of you. All you can do is cross your fingers that you'll be able to roll out the door to your car after it's over and dig in. The food consists of the owner's grandmother's recipes and other delicious dishes that she has perfected. As soon as you walk in the door, your nose is lifted up to a higher plane by the smell of good-ole home-cookin'. A buffet line full of green beans, black eyed peas, fried okra, collard greens, shoe peg corn, grits, fried catfish, fried chicken, poppy seed chicken casserole, corn bread muffins, and angel biscuits, etc. There is also a salad bar with some of the best tomatoes you've ever had. Top that off with a bottomless glass full of Sweet Tea, and you're in business. Just try not going back for a second plate! Our favorites were definitely the Angel Biscuits, the Green Beans, and the Fried Chicken, which was probably the most delicious I have ever eaten. The service is great! Our server, Tom, was an expert at managing my Sweet Tea intake and juggling half a dozen dessert plates at a time. Diann, the owner, is a hoot and a holler, so make sure you say hi to her. But hold on there friend! Don't eat too much, because it would just be a tragedy to fill up and miss out on dessert! Of all our options, we loved the Bread Pudding with Bourbon Sauce, the Banana Pudding, and the Apple Crisp. It's worth coming to Jackson, simply to eat at this restaurant!

Absolutely fantastic. As a northerner visiting on a short time fuse, was able to stop by on our way to the airport and quickly have a wonderful meal. I would come back again and again. Great food, loved the atmosphere.

This cafeteria style Southern kitchen is the best in Jackson... and that's saying a lot. Located in a old downtown Jackson home, Two Sisters' For around $10 you get an all-you-can-eat buffet of meats, sides, cornbread/roll, salad, a drink, and unbelievable dessert. Tables are set up in bedrooms throughout the house. There's seating outside as well (sit there on a sunny day). If it's your birthday, you eat for free. Seriously... southern cuisine doesn't get any better than this.

This was our lunch stop, the half-point between New Orleans and Memphis. We chose to stop here based on fellow Yelper reviews (excellent fried chicken and a buffet with far too many delicious options to fit on a single plate). You walk right in and are instructed to grab a plate, fill it up, and head upstairs and sit wherever you like (downstairs was full when we arrived; we could have been seated there, too, if there was space). Make sure you hit the separate salad bar to get a plate of fresh greens, too. Once seated, you'll be offered a beverage by an extremely friendly server and, after your meal is over, your plate will be cleared and you will be given a choice of desserts (bread pudding, banana pudding, chocolate cake or -- the day we went -- apple crisp). The food was delicious and hit the spot on our road trip. The buffet is $12.50 per person, plus tip for your server. When you're done eating you go downstairs and pay the Sisters. On my plate: black eyed peas, collard greens, green beans and carrots, corn bread muffin, biscuit, gravy, fried okra, rice, and two delicious pieces of fried chicken. That was enough food for me (leaving room, of course, for dessert). You could also choose grits, spaghetti and what looked to be baby lima beans. I also took a full plate of fresh, mixed salad greens and topped it with cherry tomatoes and and fresh coleslaw (which also served as my dressing -- delicious). I chose the bread pudding; my husband chose the apple crisp (which was FABULOUS and was, in my opinion, better than the bread pudding which had too much sauce on it, and was too sweet). Although others say differently, this place is extremely easy to find/get to. It's close to I-55 and across the street (on the north side) from the State Capital complex of buildings. One thing we found a bit puzzling: peeling paint on the ceiling and in other areas. Around the 2nd floor there are areas where there seem to be attempts at patching up holes and cracks in walls, peeling paint, etc. Not sure if actual work is being done or if this is all part of the charm and look of the old building. I'm not from Mississippi but I'd think that a health department in any state would frown upon paint clearly peeling above diner's heads (ew...). Also, the bathroom upstairs needs a bit of extra attention (the sink leaks -- there is a bin underneath to catch the water; something I would think is not up to code). From the look of things, these little things seemed really easy to fix so, hopefully, that can happen soon. Overall, a good experience and fine soul food lunch was shared by me and my husband.

In Jackson on business, and tried this place out for lunch. What a great call! Fried chicken was tender, juicy, and crispy, and the rolls are fantastic, buttery and flaky. All veggies were outstanding. I would recommend this place to anyone, so if you're wondering whether or not to go there, I'll make it easy for you, GO EAT THERE, IT'S DELICIOUS!!!!

Fine lunch buffet. Nothing particularly amazing. The chicken is well seasoned, like everybody says, but Fannin Mart it ain't. The bread pudding was passable. Decent selection. I feel like $12 is a little steep for a buffet. And as a friend has said, there's better soul food to be had in Jackson.

JUST GO! :) Thanks to the previous reviews here I visited the restaurant on Sunday around 1:00 pm - there were plenty of seats and the patio in the back is where I enjoyed my excellent meal. The cornbread there is definitely different - the texture and a slight sweet taste made me get a second. One of the top two cornbread recipes I've tasted (and I love cornbread). The bread pudding was unbelievable. I didn't realize it at first, but the wait staff (which is great also) is suppose to serve the desserts; I can understand why. I had a choice between two sauces and I chose the whiskey sauce (can't remember what the other one was). I'm not even sure how to describe the taste - maybe similar to a light sugar donut glaze and a touch of whiskey - THE BEST! I also took a few minutes to chat with the owners and they are very warm and sweet people. I let them know I found out about them through Yelp and sounds like they will be checking it out. I'm traveling from California so any chance I get I try to hunt a place like this down and probably would have never found it had it not been for the diligent food lovers here. I had two plates of food and dessert and spent a little under $15 - absolutely worth it! They are also just blocks away from the capitol building (which is beautiful) so you might have a nice time checking it out.
