CS's is another great stop on my "Best Burger" tour of the Jackson area. This place was a bar when I was a kid. Located behind Milsaps College, I had truly forgotten that it was there. Seems in my 30 year absence, the place has turned into quite a lunch spot for downtown employees and Jackson food explorers. Walking in, you can't help but gawk at the hundreds of old beer cans on the shelves and countless political posters and stickers that plaster the walls at rakish angles. Left or Right, you will see them both here at CS's. Inez is the centerpiece server here at CS's. She immediately spoke to my lunch mates calling some by name and remembering some faces from nearly a decade back. Inez has served 2-3 generations of Jacksonians some of the finest burgers on the planet. We all ordered burgers at our table even though they had a mean plate-lunch on the menu that day. The signature Inez Burger is a huge patty served open-face topped with chili and cheese with a side of Jalapenos. It looked fantastic. I ordered my regular large bacon-cheese burger. This one came as a double stack with a bun in the middle like a Big Mac...only it had real meat and real bread. This burger is fantastic. Not only is it fantastic, but after our table of 5 ordered, the food was at the table in about 5 minutes. The toasted bun is great and the meat was flavored really nicely. I cannot tell you how sad I am I have been here for 5 years and this is my first CS Burger. Finally, like Beatty Street, the value is also there. The large burger is $6.75! With awesome fries and tea I was out the door for under $9. Amazing they are still serving food at such a great value. This burger in on or near the top of my Top 10 list! Thanks for the suggestion Shush...keep them coming.

Yes, this little place has wonderful charm, character and great service - but the burgers are like school burgers. Yes, they are good - but not worth 5 stars.

Well...I shared a basic cheeseburger and fries with my hubs and I was underwhelmed. Kinda tasted a lotta cafeteria-ish. Is there anything else that they serve???

It's great if you're into nostalgia. The beer is cold. The burgers are fine, but if you're eating based on quality, there's better places to find a burger of any kind. The Inez is what they're known for and it's good, but unfortunately you can't eat a side of ambience.

The Inez Burger is possibly the best burger in Jackson. Friendly staff. Don't let the location turn you down.

I worked downtown Jackson and CS's is common spot for state employee's, Belhaven, Millsaps, and University Medical Center students. It's cool to hang out, burgers are decent - after having a Cool Al's or a Stamps Super burger, its hard to get excited about anyone else's burgers in town. Nice people, good prices, so/so portions. You just have to judge for yourself, me though, I can only give three stars - due to Stamps and Cool Al's making burgers in the metro area.

It is because of places like this that I give other places (such as 5 Guys) only 3 stars. Other reviewers have covered most of my points, but I'll rehash. The atmosphere is great, the food is tasty, and the staff is friendly. Ms Inez always knows just what I want and always makes me feel like I've been missed when I haven't been there in a while. The tea is sweet enough to give you a cavity thinking about it and the burgers juicy enough that you never have to worry about biting into an overly done piece. People swear by the Inez burger, but I've always been a Joe burger fan. I've recently switched to the (no real name as far as I know) pimento cheese, jalapeno, bacon burger. It always hits the spot. They do have a plate lunch that is always satisfying as well, not to mention peanut butter pie. I will say that the fries have changed since my last visit. I'm not 100% sold on them yet!

CS's has been around forever and is a classic but well kept secret in Jackson. If I ever have friends in town, this is the first place I want to take them to eat. Keep in mind this place only serves lunch until 2 so no late lunches! They serve signature burgers which are always a sure thing, with either onion rings (holy crap delicious) or fries (also h.c. delicious.) My order for gastro-nirvana is the mushroom burger: gravy, mushrooms, gooey cheese, and delicious meat, with fries and a side of comeback to dip them in :). I mean, you're already getting some variation of a delicious heartattack, so its not as if the comeback dressing is going to be what does you in. Note: All burgers are served in small, medium, or large, but I cannot eat anything larger than a small and I'm sure most people would agree. Also, while you're there, note all the cool memorabilia on the wall. This is a place where you can get your favorite candidates bumper sticker put up on the wall or share a humorous story. The best in guilty pleasures, I can't recommend this place enough.

If you like greasy spoons bursting with local flavor, don't miss CS's. The only drawback is the smokers. This place has a wonderful lunch special everyday that is full of southern goodness. If you go on Wed, you get homemade Fried chicken with 2 veggies, cornbread and tea for under $10. Other days, check out the Inez Burger. It's named after the great waitress that handles about half the orders in the place. She has a big wonderful smile for you when she gets to the table, but don't get her mad at ya! :) Get your order to her quick as she has about 20 other tables to handle. CS's is another place I won't think about skipping in Jackson, MS. The food is wonderful, and so are the folks. It is on my calendar for lunch every time I am in town! See my other reviews for more down home cooking favs!

If you're looking for a seriously epic lunch, head to CS's. They claim to have the best burger in town and they are for sure in my top five burgers in Jxn! Truly a JXN institution, CS's is seated on the outskirts of Midtown, on West Street right behind Milsaps campus. When you walk in, you'll immediately notice that this place has some serious character. The walls are plastered with bumper stickers, polaroids, old campaign posters, and more. There's barely a blank section in site. The restaurant is quite large, divided up into two main seating areas. There are plenty of booths as well as free-standing tables you can push together if you come with a larger group. The food is very Mississippi, which is my way of saying it is ex-cellent. If you're craving a burger, you really can't go wrong with their standard burger or any of their specialty ones. The pimiento cheese burger is a personal favorite of mine, as it comes topped with bacon and jalapeños. Um, YUM. If you're not in the mood for a burger, have no worries. They have plenty of other deeeelicious choices. I highly recommend going for their daily blue plate special. It's good, Southern home cooking and you might need a nap afterwards but you won't regret it. The servers are so friendly and the food comes out pretty quickly considering how small the establishment is! CS's a staple of the Jackson food scene and for a good reason. If you haven't been, check it out soon!

Best. Burger. Ever. Came here for lunch on a Monday and the place was definitely busy! I was seated immediately and ordered a sweet tea. Let me tell you, being from Virginia, the tea is usually made unsweet or is never sweet enough. Their tea is ahhmazing. I had probably 5 glasses! I ordered a cheeseburger with a side salad and fries. Side salad had their famous "comeback" dressing which was a great addition. Burger was cooked perfectly and had lots of flavor! The fries were great as well... Especially dipped in comeback sauce. The service is second to none and the atmosphere is really cool. Tons of memories and history to this place and I love that it's family owned. If you're looking for the best food and service, this is your go-to. Love CS's. Can't wait to go again the next time I'm in Mississippi!

"Ski Mississippi!" OK. I'm biased. I went to Millsaps and ate here almost every day. Drank plenty of beer here as well. Back then, they used to have pool tables and darts in the second room, and I sure spent more time there than I did studying. I actually had a charge account back in the day. Pat would just write what I spent on an index card, and I'd always make sure to bring my mom or dad there for lunch whenever they were in town so that I could get them to pay my tab. Although I'm sure they always (rightly) suspected that my account included meals and beers for all my friends, they gladly paid it and were happy that Pat and Inez were taking care of me while I was away at college. Ah, the good ole days... I doubt they run a tab anymore, and the second room as been transformed to additional dining. However, all of the good things about this place that I enjoyed so much are still present. The Inez Burger of course. Cheese fries with jalapenos. The plate lunches and 'OH MY GOD' peach cobbler with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for dessert. But the best thing of all is Pat. Although I haven't lived in Jackson since 1989 and only return a few times a year, he still remembers me and still asks about my parents. If only I could get them to pay my tab -- but now I'm too old for that.
