I had a grilled sandwich with black forest ham and cheddar cheese on white bread. It was delicious. Better than Jimmy Johns, which is saying something because I'm a JJ fan. Clean restaurant. Cool, southern-hip atmosphere. The staff was friendly and upbeat. It's nice that Oak Grove has a good sandwich shop now. Also, I walked next door to the cake shop and got a brownie. It was amazing.

I had lunch at South Mouth Deli today and I loved it! It seems that all the kinks have been worked out with service. I was greeted immediately and encouraged to take my time reading the menu! I decided on a house salad with their homemade balsamic and half of a Miss Rosemary! The salad was extremely good, in fact, it was one of the best house salads that I have had in Hattiesburg. The Miss Rosemary Chicken sandwich did not disappoint either! I really love pairing rosemary with chicken, so this was a great choice for me. The atmosphere was delightful, offering plenty of seating, yet spaced out enough that you could enjoy a business lunch or private conversation. Booth and table seating is available. The big question I always ask myself when I leave a new restaurant is: Would I go again? The answer is yes, DEFINiTELY! In fact, I plan to try breakfast the next time I am in town!

Poor service. Way below par food quality. I hated that I took my mother while she was here for a visit. When will Hattiesburg stop accepting poor food quality?!

The place has potential. I like the space and location. It doesn't appear that they have much competition nearby, which is good for them, because based on my experience, the quality of the food alone won't be enough to keep them in business. Four of us gave SMD a try for lunch today, in spite of the earlier negative review. I was pleasantly surprised by the hip vibe and friendly service, but none of us were overly impressed with the food. The menu sounds great, but fails to deliver on taste. Other than the chicken tortilla soup and hummus appetizer, which were both very good, everything else (three different sandwiches, chicken/pear salad, potato salad, etc.) was medicre, at best. Perhaps it's not fair to judge too harshly after only three weeks in business, but at this point, there are far better options for lunch in H'burg.

The sandwiches are quite large and therefore more reasonable for the price. On top of having delicious toppings and meats I can't wait to try other sandwiches from here soon!

I really wanted to like this restaurant, since it's much closer to my neighborhood than other delis in Oak Grove. My first impression was great- the decor was lovely. The cashier was air-headed but friendly. But the food was bad. Just bad. Potato salad tasted like something you'd buy pre-made at Walmart. Fruit salad had pineapple, honeydew, and one grape. My sandwich, the coastal club, was loaded with huge gobs of this horrible vinaigrette that overwhelmed all the other flavors in the sandwich. My dad got the hot sandwich with Gouda in the name, I forget what it was exactly, and that was forgettable as well. Neither of us finished our meals. For just $16 for lunch for two, the price is great, but you might as well drive a little further to sweet peppers if you want a decent deli. I heard that this place is owned by the guy who owns Mugshots and Patio 44, both good restaurants, so this is especially disappointing.

I was able to try South Mouth this past Saturday around noon. I was excited to hear a new deli was in town, especially after seeing their menu. Unfortunately, the service immediately was horrible. Customer service is a basic must for any business, especially for new businesses. The cashier greeted me with, "What do you want?!" I told her that I needed a second, and she continued to scowl and look annoyed. When I placed my order, she immediately handed me a cup. When I handed it back and asked her for a coffee, I seemed to have pissed her off even more. I'm sorry my order didn't follow you're assumption. I get that you're trying to hurry me along, but damn. Later when I received my coffee, there was no lid. So when I got up to ask for one, she ignored me and walked away. There was actually another instance, but I won't get into that. Aside from that, the food was okay. My fiancé got the Knuckle Sandwich, which was much better than my Miss Rosemary. My sandwich seemed thrown together and easily fell apart. The macaroni and potato salad were equally unimpressive. The line to order needs to be re-evaluated. It's inefficient and doesn't make sense. Not a great first impression, but that's mostly due to poor service. It put a bad taste in my south mouth.

I have tried this place twice, & both times it was horrible. How do you mess up a sandwich? I mean, seriously? But yes, they did. Both times. I have ordered the "Bless Your Heart" sandwich both times. Both times it was dry, & lacking ingredients that the menu stated it should have on it. I am also a vegetarian, & when I state that & you still give me a side with meat chunks in it I get angry. I asked my husband how his sandwich was, his words were, "they state they use house made sauerkraut...they should really stick with Vlasic. This sandwich is very uninspired."
