While visiting with my parents for a week, I needed to find a place to camp out and work for a few hours. I'm not a huge fan of large chain coffee places (*cough*Starbucks*cough*), so I decided to come camp out at Java Werks. Staff is very friendly and accommodating -- the owner asked me if I wanted the music to be turned down due to being on a phone call. The coffee is tasty too. And with it being directly across from Southern Miss, this is a prime spot for those study sessions. And with plenty of plugs available, this is a remote worker's dream spot.

Worst place ever. It is over priced and the food is mediocre at best. I ordered a combo half sandwich and soup. The sandwich was extremely small and had one piece of meat and barely any lettuce on it. The worst place I've ever been to that serves soup and sandwiches. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Go out of your way for a Mayan Mocha! Great place to get work done and pass time with friends.

I don't like buying at chain coffee shops. Starbucks quality is horrible (burnt and chalky). I moved here from Jackson and always supported local businesses and found this gem. Cesar and his wife are the sweetest and nicest couple who owns the place. It was my first time here and he was very personable and welcoming. I got the caramel frappe and the turkey pesto panini and it was amazing. Quality was freshly made and they always take their time to make sure it's what you wanted. Will be coming back. If you're looking for a warm atmosphere with a family owned business environment and great quality food and coffee- then this is definitely the place!

I love this place. The coffee is great - I usually get the house dark blend and drink it black, but I've also had the frozen coffees and they are delicious. ~$2.50 for a 24oz coffee. I finally tried the gluten free arepas and can't believe what I've been missing out on. It's loaded with chicken, tomatoes, lettuce, avocado, cheese....mmmm. I'm in love. ~$8 for the arepa and it fills you up. This is my new favorite place.....

Great place great coffee great wifi. Our group has a meeting there once a month we used to do this at T Bone records but it's just too loud. The owner always make sure their tables set up for us before we get there and he sets up a tab for us so we can just pay at the end of the meeting.

We stop in here every time we're in Hattiesburg. I love the friendly staff and wonderful drink selection. I'm there so often they always know what I order and always know when to recommend something new. It's like dining with family every time I stop in.

I tried coming here a few times with my friends to study, but it's really difficult because the internet isn't reliable. When you purchase something, you have to ask for a printed passcode. The login window to type your passcode does not pop up half the time, so I occasionally have to restart my computer. After two hours are up, it kicks me off the webpage and I have to repeat the above steps. I love supporting local businesses, but the food here is just too expensive to keep purchasing every two hours. Also, when I'm on a deadline I don't have the patience to deal with shabby internet connection. This is a great place to go if you are just gathering with friends and do not need internet!

The mocha I ordered was pretty good, though I am not a fan of powdered chocolate. We also ordered a croissant which was really fresh and flavorful.

We found this spot on Yelp as we traveled through Mississippi on our way to Texas. Too bad this place isn't closer to home. We would absolutely be regulars. The food was delicious and the owner was charming. I would love to explore the menu futther.

Love this place!! One of the few good coffee places for studying in Hattiesburg (the depot and T-bones being a couple others). The staff is very friendly, and the coffee is great. The wifi is password protected which can get annoying with a full day of studying (you have to ask for a new code every 2 hours), but overall great place. PLEASE do not go to starbucks when you can support a local, family owned business less than a mile away :)

This was my first visit, and I was very impressed! The staff was very friendly and helpful, and there was a large selection of various drinks, snacks, sandwiches, and coffee. Try the Hollywood Blondie! Very yummy!

This place is lame. They are really slow, everything I've had here is unremarkable, and on National Coffee Day they were out of coffee... Blah ambience, blah everything.

Ah Java Werks, a place that I spent many an hour cramming for exams... During exam time they are open 24 hours. This place was my home from home during uni. They do great coffee, have an excellent loyalty card system. Comfy couches, free wi-fi with purchase. Sandwiches are good too if not a little pricey, local art on the walls, oh and board games! Just don't go here expecting a New York minute... Getting coffee here usually takes 20 mins for me because Mississippi is in no rush, 'Well hey Miss Annie, long time no see.' And that was said if I was not there for 2 days which then entailed a long chat. Also expect random people to chat with you because that's what they do down here, everything slows down to a thick molasses and people just want to sit about and shoot the breeze. Met my hippy friends here and learnt to appreciate a cold iced tea whilst sitting in the humid sauna that embraces you outside like now.

I was living in Hattiesburg when this place opened. I went back a couple of weeks ago and it is still standing...no change. This was my respite in a land of buffets, fast food chains, and bland life. It is a locally owned coffee shop and I am all in favor of that. It was the first "proper" coffee shop to open near USM campus. I used to spend many evenings here....there was no other place where I could go have a cup of coffee, a pastry, use free wi-fi, and not get the look. I mean "the look"! (If you are a non-white foreigner living in Mississippi, you will know what "the look" means ) The crowd is an eclectic mix. This place always attracts the non-traditional folks....you can see the few hippies, liberals, environmentalists, and anyone who does not fit in the traditional/ conservative Mississippi. (yes, those kind of people do exist...MS is not entirely a bunch of freaks) Good times and good memories....the free wi-fi is a bonus

Needed some good coffee so I got off the interstate and stopped. Clean store, friendly staff and great coffee.

The espresso is so good that visiting Italian natives are known to stop in two or three times a day for a quick doppio ristretto. Their coffee selections lean toward medium roasts - light on taste and high in caffeine - so be sure to give that a try as well. Their panini's are very tasty though very filling. Yum. Also be sure to bring your ID so you can take advantage of the discounts - students get any side cup o' joe for the price of a small every day. School faculty and medical staff get discounts on certain days as well so be sure to look into it.
