Gumbo is great. They used to serve it with a Great garlic bread made with a wonderful crusty French bread but now just use a regular grocery store roll. The po boys are also good but again they need to go back to the good crusty French bread

I love this place. Sometimes though, the sandwiches are put together sloppy and often they run out of things on the menu. Other than that, it's pretty good.

Really? Yelp filters out the reviews from Hattiesburg residents and post a one off review of some out of stater? What a joke! I grew up in Hattiesburg and have eaten at the Gold Post literally hundreds of times. Food has been consistentaly great for decades! Love the BBQ beef, chicken as well as the time tested gumbo with a grill cheese and the red beans and rice. As for as negative comments about the staff. Insert eye roll here. These people have always been nothing but friendly and helpful. Take your time and read the reviews that the people at Yelp filtered out and chose not to apply to the Gold Post average. They are the ones that know what they are talking about not some two line review from some clown in GA.

Have only eaten here 2 times, and the first time was about 14 years ago. My wife likes the food and it wasnt bad. Really wanted to try the gumbo but they only sell it on certain days. I got a patty melt and it was ok and my wife ordered the grilled cheese and vegetable aoup. The soup had a slightly sweet flavor which i wasnt fond of. But she enjoyed it. The place tries to give a New Orleans vibe with the pictures on the wall and the food. But what struck me most about the place was a picture of a black man with those super-big lips. Old habits die hard i guess. The world wont ever change.

Definitely the best place to get shrimp po boys and gumbo! Their sweet is awesome, too!
