Driving through Brandon on our way back to AL, we wanted something different from your ordinary chain restaurant, & picked Heart & Soul on a whim. Are we ever glad we did! We were genuinely greeted by at least 3 people when we entered. Our waiter was excellent - very friendly & on the ball. We wanted for nothing. The food was wonderful! We both got omelets, my husband with cheese grits on the side & me with strawberry banana French toast. All of it was great. The chef even brought some of it out. Top to bottom, all the way around, we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Heart & Soul Diner, & heartily recommend it!

Waitress was very friendly and did a great job. Also she helped us find an outlet to charge our dead phone before hitting the road. The place was completely empty when we arrived mid afternoon. Onion rings were delicious. The Mahi sandwich was also very good. We also tried the crepes benedict which was not bad despite us seeing that the hollandaise was prepackages. Saddened to say that they also admitted to not making their own dressings/dips. Still not a bad lunch spot and would try it again if in the immediate area.

Our family rolled into this place and were surprised to find only two other parties in this fairly spacious diner. We were handed two menus, one for breakfast items and one for dinner items. The first thing we noted is that the prices were a bit on the high side for what seemed like a basic diner environment. Breakfast items were generally 9.99 each, and dinner items ranged from about $12-17. We ordered the chicken and waffles, which were served with "maple" syrup. The order came with three small chicken strips and a basic waffle sprinkled with powdered sugar. While there was nothing wrong with it, it was rather unremarkable and the portion was a bit small. The service was excellent and our server was pleasant. If you are looking for a basic, serviceable meal, this is not a bad choice. But if you are seeking a memorable dining experience, look elsewhere.

We have been here twice already and I am ready to go back! The food is delicious! The staff is friendly! However, the atmosphere is weird. There are hardly any patrons there when we go and the decor does not say "diner". The wooden feature above the booths reminds me of a garden arbor. Regardless, we will be back!

Short Version: Food was fabulous. The service was bad. Long Version: My wife and I stopped here for a late lunch around 1pm on a Saturday. We were pleased to discover that they serve breakfast until 4pm along with a lunch menu. Service Issues When we first came in the host seated a lady and continued to carry on a conversation with her at her table for 10 minutes while we stood there waiting at the front of the restaurant. The vast majority of tables were empty. We eventually interrupted and asked if we could sit in a particular booth. After we were seated the host asked if he could take our drink orders. We asked if we could have some menus which he then provided us with and left. About 10 minutes later a young lady took our drink orders and said she would be back to get our order. Five minutes later a young man took our drink orders and brought us our drinks. Then a brisk discussion took place at the wait station about whose table we were. The young man who had handled our drinks appeared to win. After that, service was just fine.. I've heard similar stories from other patrons. Clearly management needs to take an active role in the dining room. Food We both opted to have breakfast items. I ordered the Jambalaya Omelette and my wife had the Heart & Soul Omelette. The Jambalaya Omelette is an omelette with red and green bell peppers, onions, cheese, smoked Andouille sausage and Cajun chicken. It was HUGE, perfectly cooked and delicious! Two people could probably split this. My wife's Heart & Soul Omelette (if I recall correctly) had hash browns, cheese, and onions. It was delicious as well. The omelettes come with a side of fruit, grits (regular or cheese), toast, or an English muffin. My wife ordered the grits which were good and I ordered the English muffin which was nothing special. I would say that a breakfast diner should probably step up to better jelly. They offer small food service brand jelly packets. I would recommend stepping up to something similar to the small Smucker's tins of jelly that Cracker Barrel has. But obviously this is a small complaint. The servings were very large and I think my order was $8.99 which I consider a great price. We also looked at the dinner menu that wasn't being served at the time, but we wanted to get a feel for it. There appear to be MANY great options there that are reasonably priced. It is very seafood-centric, which to my mind is a good thing! I can't wait to try dinner and see if the service is better next time. Rating If I could give them 5 stars for food and 2 for service, that is what I would do. Instead I settled on 3 stars.

We stopped at this place on our way from Atlanta to Dallas. Reviews looked good and the menu looked vast so I was down. My mom and I split the crab cake stack and the chicken and waffles. The chicken and waffles were definitely the favorite. Waffle and chicken crust were well done. It comes with jerk sauce which I normally like but this one tasted more like bbq sauce and I would have preferred the spicy more jamaican jerk sauce. The crab stack was ok, but the crab cakes had a ton of filler. My mom also said it was too spicy for her ( I didn't think so, but it's worth noting that it did have spice.) The only thing I thought was strange was that it closed pretty early even though it calls itself a diner, but maybe people go to sleep early in Brandon.

Something has changed there, the food is not as great as it once was. The cleanliness is declining, there was so much dust on the vent in the ladies room, i was almost afraid to walk under it, and the trash can was not properly installed. The waiter we had was less than stellar. He mumbled and we could barely understand him. It took us an hour to eat breakfast on a Saturday morning, we were not in a hurry, but a pretty boring wait for food and beverages. Would probably eat there again, still better than the alternatives that are available close, but not as good as it once was.

They recently completely changed the menu and chef at Heart and Soul. I had been several times before and just did NOT like it. But I decided to try it with the new menu and chef and all I can say is WOW!!! We were a party of 4 and ordered some different items so I got to taste several things. Crab cakes with Hollandaise are absolutely delicious, fried green tomatoes with crab sauce was excellent! I had veggie pasta for an entree and it was the best I've ever had. I also sampled the grilled pork chop with sweet potato risotto and I forget the name, but a pasta dish with shrimp and sausage with a tomato based sauce. Nothing I tasted was anything less than delicious! My only gripe is they have NO chocolate on their dessert menu! I highly recommend the NEW Heart and Soul!!

I stopped for a quick lunch. I had a beef brisket sandwich that tasted old ( I am a little nervous that I will get sick.) If I am ever back in town, I will keep on driving.

Our first attempt using the cell phone map left off the "1" in the address so we had to backtrack to locate this place, which we learned about from one of the Food Network shows. We expected this 'diner' to be more rustic; instead this small spot was lacking in warmth and character. It was bright, yet barren. Tables were modern. Nothing homey about this place. Our waitress was cute and friendly. The food was really good: eggs benedict, beignets, strawberry cheesecake waffle, and soft-shell crab BLT sandwich were all delicious. Prices were very reasonable. Taking off 1 star for the decor and the lack of personality of the staff. The cooking is done in the open and our 3 kids leapt at the chance to sit at the bar and watch Chef Calem cook. What a great opportunity for the staff to kibbitz with the kids (we were there near 3:30 so there wasn't a huge crowd) but nobody even acknowledged the kids - a smile would have been nice.

Our visit to Heart and Soul Diner was great. The owner was great, our waitress was professional, and the food was fantastic. There were 8 people in our group and we could not stop talking about our great experience at Heart and Soul.

The Pros: The food here is surpringly very good. The staff is good, and very attentive. The Cons: Parking isn't the best, as it's actually inside a gas station. Not a whole lot of seating. Some of their items are kind of pricey, considering you're basically eating at a diner and at a gas station. Overall: Really good food, good service, good variety. Will definitely come here again.

You will have to try this place to believe how good it is. Everything was great and service was excellent. Will definitely come again.

This is probably one of the best local places that I have been to in my area. Their food is fantastic and the staff is friendly and excellent. If you are looking for awesome cuisines like shrimp and grits or seafood pasta, and trust me there is plenty more great items on the menu, then this is a top notch place to go and the price can't be beat.

I would like to second the softshell crab BLT. One of the best sandwiches in the world, bar none!

We stopped at the Heart & Soul Diner for breakfast this morning, before continuing our drive east to Birmingham. My wife had delicious crab cake benedict with a bowl of fruit and I had the Heart & Soul omelet, which contained hash browns and ham. My side was cheesy grits which was outstanding. Service was excellent.

Such an amazing gem tucked away in a strip mall. Do not let the exterior fool you though, this place has some AMAZING food. Ample seating, huge portions and priced extremely reasonably. We had strawberry french toast, waffles and omelets and we all basically licked our plates. And the service was better than I have received in most five star dining places. I cannot wait to go back and try one of the HUGE burgers and other entrees that I eyeballed as they were delivered to other lucky tables. This is by far the best breakfast I've had in the Jackson area...tastier than Julep, Primos and Que Cera and the price was more like Waffle House. In case I have not been clear, YOU SHOULD EAT AT THIS PLACE because I will cry if it closes (which would only happen because many just dont know its there!)

Absolutely positively without a doubt the best dining experience I have ever had. I had a new Shrimp BLT PO-Boy my wife had the jambalaya and both were perfect!! the service was excellent my 3 year old daughter ate all her food and wanted more. she had the waffle and an egg (loves breakfast) the waffle was light and airy with tons of sweet flavor. I cannot recommend this place enough. I will be back when I drive across the states again THANK YOU !!!

Food is great! However, I did not enjoy our waiter laughing and making jokes about my 3 year old twins' speech problems. We realize they can't pronounce words correctly that's why they are in speech. I even told him they have speech problems to get him to stop and he said, "I know, it's just funny". I didn't find it funny at all!!!

Reviews led us to this restaurant. Sadly we had a very mediocre breakfast (how do you screw up breakfast?). One of our orders eggs were over cooked, the biscuits and toast weren't toasted....just warmed on the grill, and the service was VERY slow (and there were hardly anyone in there!) not the waitresses fault. Again this was just a basic breakfast!

I have eaten breakfast here a couple of times when in the area on business. It is a good solid choice for the usual offerings you would expect in this kind of place. Friendly staff, nice service, food is good. No complaints.

I've eaten here twice, and both times were very underwhelming. I had the Catfish Poboy, and it was very boring. It had very little seasoning and just wasn't that great. I had an omelette the second time, and it was also very subpar. It was supposed to be 'meat lovers', but it had maybe half a slice of bacon in the entire thing and very little sausage. Also, I got biscuits with it, and they were cold and hard, as if they'd been sitting out all day. It was about 2 PM, but really, I can go home and toss two frozen biscuits in the oven and have nice warm biscuits in 20 minutes. Another person with me was also served a cold pasta dish that had to be sent back. The appetizers were good, but they're a bit overpriced.

Came in for breakfast today and everyone was very nice. It was our waiters second day waiting and he seemed overwhelmed with most of the tables and greeting customers. Had to have someone else take our order as he did not come back for 20 minutes after bringing our drinks. When we finally got our food it was good, but none of our orders were correct. By the time the ham came for my eggs Benedict my yolks were no longer runny.

I have come all the way from Texas to eat here. Ok I visited my sister and parents too, but this place ranks up there with them. The food is great. And I rarely find a meal outstanding enough to be remarkable to me. But this place is. Eat here you won't regret it.

Loved it Best plate lunch I've had in years. Could have made a meal off mashed potatoes alone. they were so good. Real potatoes-- not dehydrated powdered potatoes. Tender roast beef, green beans that had flavor like Grandma used to make. And corn! It was also very good. This place cooks its vegetables. Most places just open a can and warm it up. I will go back and try lunch again. This was my first time since it moved to shopping center. Had dinner when it was beside the gas station. It was good too but this was excellent!

This was my third time here but it's been a while. I have to say I was really dissapointed. The place looks nice I'll say that and the service was ok But of 4 meals all but one were burnt slightly and for fish that's a killer. My entree was missing a key ingredient as well so for a $75 meal I expected a little more. Il have to pass next time.

First time at the Heart and Soul diner. **Note- it is no longer in a gas station, so seating and parking are no longer a problem. We came in the diner with a warm welcome, but then we didn't see our waiter again. Service ended up being slow, but the food was delicious. I tried the soft shell crab blt sandwich with onion rings (onion rings aren't the best but the sandwich was delicious). The boyfriend had the New Orleans Benedict with a seafood sauce on top an said it was delicious. The best thing we had was the caramel banana cheesecake! It is a must!!!

VERY tasty. I ordered fried fish (I think catfish), beignets, and shrimp and grits. Of course the beignets are not going to be Cafe Du Monde but they were very delicious. And the shrimp & grits were off the chain. Nice mix of garlic & Cajun. If you're in the area might as welllll try it out for an evening!

Oh my gracious! How have we not been here before today? Definitely bringing the wife back for date night. Wonderful service, everything we had was delicious and Christian music playing in the background - who could ask for a better experience? We started with some onion rings - great! Kids catfish and chicken Alfredo were delicious as well. Shrimp po-boy on crusty French bread like NO ONE else has in the area. Finally, shrimp and grits that were absolutely amazing...definitely worth $15. Nothing bad to say except it's been around the corner thins long and I've waited too long to try it.

Heart & Soul has very good food. However, they have, in the past year, increased their prices so we do not eat there often.

Great place. Very clean and a wonderfully pleasant staff. The menu had a great selection of specialty meals and some twists on traditional fare. I brought a van of 10 college students for dinner. Everyone had a great time and we're all pleasantly surprised at the quality of the dinner. Great place.

One of the best restaurants in Brandon...and they serve my favorite - breakfast foods. Can't remember exactly the name of the omlet, but it's got all the seafood...wow really good and filling. Service is great and the staff is friendly.

When we travel, we always like to visit local places. We found this gem and really enjoyed breakfast for dinner. My son had a pancake and it was just the way I like them but can't ever find them...crispy on the outside and buttery on the inside. I had a ham and tomato omelete which came with super tasty bisquits. Hubby had the french toast plate and daughter had bacon and eggs. Youngest just ate a bit of everything! So much food for the price and was a great stop for us on the road. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. The address is on Municipal, not government so it took us a little bit to find. Only con would have been that there was no changing table in the women's restroom for diaper changes. Other than that, we would definitely be back and recommend!

They have moved to a building behind their old location. The facilities are now just as great as the food and service.
