I was initially intrigued and confused when I found this place on the internet. There was an article from before they opened featuring the interior and some pretty awesome food porn, but then they don't have a website and their Facebook is purely awkward pictures of groups of middle aged people and full of misspellings and awful grammar from whomever moderates the page. Add to that the random strip mall location and I had no idea what to think. I decided to give it a shot and planned our weekly work Thursday happy hour here. We arrived and claimed the large bar table by the patio, which was open as it was a lovely warm evening. The décor is sort of modern lodge if that makes sense and reminds me a lot of a little gastropub in Seattle we used to frequent (only they didn't have mounted animal heads. You don't often see animal heads in Seattle bars). The other patrons clearly were the after work 30-40ish set and it was relatively quiet for how busy it was. Katie promptly came over and got our drink order going (side note: Katie is AWESOME and is about 70% of the reason we'll keep coming back!). We were waiting for more of our group to trickle in so we hung out and enjoyed our drinks. Once everyone had arrived we decided we needed snacks. I think we ordered every fried starchy option on the menu: tater tots, sweet potato tots and the twister fries. I know it was an abundance of fried starchy things, but it was all DELICIOUS. By this point we'd all had a few drinks, had some laughs with Katie and filled our tummies with carbs, so it was time to head home. That was on a Thursday... Then Saturday rolled around and with a friend down from KC we decided we needed to go back for dinner. Yep, 2 visits in 3 days. It was St. Paddy's day weekend and we'd been day drinking so I'll admit we probably didn't have the most discriminating pallets, but as far as I remember, everything we ordered was quite good. The airline chicken, the special mac and cheese and the fish tacos were all yummy. I was impressed that the tacos actually had a reasonable hint of spice because I've found it nearly impossible to find spicy food in this town. We didn't get Katie as our server this time but the service was still fine and there was some great people watching to do. Overall the atmosphere is cool, the food is solid, and the service is great. Maso is currently on my short list of places that are not just "good considering it's in Springfield" but genuinely just altogether good!

I want to give this place five stars because the service was spectacular and the drinks were equally great, but the food was very mediocre, especially given the price. I came here with my mom for after work cocktails and snacks. Both of us love Nicola's, so we were very excited to try this place. Like mentioned above, our waitress was great -- she was very attentive and super friendly. Both of us ordered Moscow Mules and I have to say, it was one of the best cocktails I've had in town. I ordered the fried chicken with creamed corn, and my mom got a cheeseburger with tator tots. The batter they use for the chicken is nice, but it had not been properly seasoned (almost as though no salt had been added at all) and was also served smothered in some type of gravy that was not mentioned in the description on the menu, or I would have requested it be served on the side. The gravy made the crust on the chicken soggy when, in my opinion, the whole point of fried chicken is to enjoy the crispy, crunchy skin. I will say, that without the gravy, the chicken would have essentially been tasteless, so in this case I suppose it was necessary. My mom ordered her burger medium and it came well done. However, the beef had been properly seasoned and the burger did taste good. The real problem each of us had with her food was the straight-off-the-Sysco-truck frozen tator tots. Given the price on everything and Nicola's dedication to quality, both of us were expecting home-made tots. I know this is a very subtle thing to bring up, but when two people are dining out and spending $60+ on a meal, I'm of the opinion that even the little details matter. The inside of the place is absolutely beautiful and they've done a terrific job with the decor. I would still recommend this place to friends, but only for the drinks, great service and atmosphere -- all of which I will be returning for. I'll just be eating down the way at Nicola's first.

Just tried the place and had a good experience. I would like to give the place a higher rating but the food felt like it was missing something and the menu was missing good options for those who are vegetarian or those who do not eat beef. Drinks were great and ample! Love the tater tots. Service was fantastic and the ambience is very nice.

I would have given Maso a better rating if I were only basing my experience on the food, which was fantastic. We started with the Chips Tres (salsa, queso and artichoke dip) and then I ordered the airline fried chicken which was perfect, moist and tender on the inside and a nice buttermilk crunchy coating on the outside. The quality of our meal was on par with a gastropub you might find in KC or Austin. With the exception of the visual aesthetic of the interior design, I really enjoyed my experience and will most definitely go back!

Such a great atmosphere! Only thing better is the food! So guuuuud! The ribs are exceptional and best to wash down with a signature Moscow mule.
