My friend got her food 20 minutes before makenna and I did. Then had to chase down waitress for her to even notice. Waited another 10 minutes. Told waitress we were leaving. She replies well you've got to pay for this stuff meaning my friends food and our drinks. Got the manager and she just kept saying few more minutes. An hour later finally got our food and had to pay for part of it. Worst customer service I've ever seen in my life

Came here again last night (03.05.14) and I have to say that the HOT salsa & Margaritas tasted much better to me this go around, so I'm changing my original '4-star' rating to a '5'! I had the same waitress as my first visit, no complaints there, she's fantastic. I chose the 'Pick 2' dinner & my friend ordered the 'El Dorado'. Both meals were very good. I'm convinced this is my new 'go-to' for Mexican:)

Went for Taco Tuesdays and the tacos were good. The tossed salad was just chopped taco lettuce tomatoes and cheese. Service was a bit slow and we had to remind them several times to bring things but the Strawberry Margaritas were yummy.

This is our very favorite Mexican food restaurant. Wont go anywhere else. great prices, even when it isn't taco Tuesday, and THE best margaritas! Oh, and also, ILOVE their Chili Rellenos...they are the best around!

  • Jeff K.

Service was friendly and efficient. Margaritas are amazing! I will be back very soon! Heard the comment that it was the best Mexican my friend has ever had.

What's up with all the 5/5 reviews?! This place is sub par at best. Decent, but nothing special.

Alright, I went here based off yelp reviews. I was extremely hopeful since Mexican is a favorite of mine. I've had horrible luck finding good Mexican you can sit down and eat in Springfield. I've ate California Mexican and Texas Mexican, so I'm possibly a bit jaded. My mom and I decided to try this place for lunch. Though the food was okay, I wasn't overly impressed. The lunch portions were perfect but we ran into our issues with the tacos and service. I'm more of a traditionalist when it comes to tacos. I love carnitas on corn tortillas and fresh pico. My mom enjoys the crunchy. She ordered the chile renillo (sp?) and crunchy beef taco. It all came out fast but the taco shell was stale. They replaced it but the second taco shell was stale too. She gave up and ate the meat with the chips. My only other issue was with service. I asked to try to hot salsa... Never got it. I would really have loved to try it. I much prefer spicy to mild. In all the food was edible but I was hoping for much more. I'd go to purple burrito or perches before I go here again.

The food here is as good as you'll find anywhere north of Texas. The portions are moderate and tasty, the staff is friendly and competent, the beer is cold, and the prices are reasonable. It's hard to find any restaurant that can do well in all four categories. It was the highlight of our stop in Springfield travelling to Okla City (except for all the restored antique autos in town for a show and parade).

  • Choompoonoot K.

Chicken enchiladas were pretty good. Shrimp tacos were pretty dried. The prices are way too high for the amount of food you get.

Food is always delicious one of my favorite Mexican places in town. I had the burrito hayo. Filled with beef shrimp avacado fries and a cheesy white sauce. Buritto was definitely sloppy but delicious. I recommend getting a steak knife to make it easier to eat...

Love Jose Locos!! Always great food at a great price with great service without fail.

BEST TACO TUESDAYS! We go every week. Servers are always awesome (one exception, but I don't think she works there anymore.) Favorite Mexican restaurant in Springfield so far.

    (5)
  • Lisa S.

Taco Tuesday is amazing!!! Chicken or beef tacos for $1. Great speedy lunch to get you through the beginning of the week funk! Take friends. Go early. My friend topped off with ten tacos! Have you seen anyone eat more in one sitting... and go back to work?!

  • Brad P.

Fantastic friendly service. Tamales are great. Chicken with Chipotle Cream is a family favorite. My wife loves the Grilled chicken and shrimp.

  • Grayson P.

They brought us the wrong order twice. The third time they came back, they had my friend's orders (still wrong, mind you, but my friends accepted it) and didn't even have my meal. The waiter said "where's your tacos?"... In a way that sounded like he was upset with me that I didn't have my food... What? This whole place has me confused. Weirdest service ever.

The only thing that would make this restaurant better is if I felt my face when I left. This picky eatter loved the food and margarita.

This was the first time we ate at this restaurant. I'm please to say we were very satisfied! We had the chicken nachos and jumbo Margaritas! They were amazing! Very strong and tasty! The service was great and the atmosphere was nice. We will definitely be back!

I was driving from branson mo to kc mo. My regular route up 65 to 44 to 13. I needed dinner so I turned on yelp. I was directed many miles off the hiway. Best decision ever. The food was amazing. Mix the hot salsa with the mild for a great medium salsa. The best part of the experience was the service. There where people in black shirts everywhere. I had at least 5 people interact with me. Yelp did me right again. Solid 5 stars. Well worth the drive. The shrimp tacos were amazing. $8. Great deal.

Why yes I am a fan! wayyyhoooo you are right! I do love Mexican food, I could eat it every meal every day. We found this place using Yelp because we wanted to grab some new Mexican food for the night and we ended up here on Taco Tuesday! You can get $1 dollar Tacos and $1.50 drafts. We ordered chicken and beef tacos and requested the special salsa. Great job Yelp that hot salsa is H-O-T like need two glasses of water and more chips to clear your palate hot, but delicious! The tacos were loaded with spices, peppers and onions along with the meat, lettuce and cheese. They were very tasty. We also had a lovely gentleman come to our table and serenaded us which I thought was super rad. Staff was very attentive and pleasant and we have been back to take 3 times to take our friends and family. Great authentic Mexican food Springfield, great job.

Well what can I say. I'm from Chicago where there are 100's if not 1000's of taquerias and other so called authentic Mexican restaurant's !!! Jose Loco's is not good on either end of the spectrum. Very bland food,a useless waitstaff ( I have had friendlier at non English speaking places ) and high prices to say the least. At first the prices were average but have since went up. I will say that the Springfield Mo Mentality is usually only to visit on a $ 1.00 taco night so I'm sure that is why they raised their prices. However the food is VERY MEH at best. EXTREMELY Bland Enchilada's, Ok fish Taco's, horrible Fajita's and Taco's very similar to a Taco Bell. They will charge you extra for corn Tortillas and onion's and cilantro which should be the standard. And yes as others have mentioned your order almost always comes out wrong. And I have eaten here at least 5-7 times. Oh and I almost forgot, VERY BAD Margarita's. Do your'self a favor and avoid this place, ( seriously ) I have nothing against them it's just not good food for the money . Even if it was cheap it's not that great. Sorry Jose !!!!!!

Late review, but came on my birthday. Waitress seemed highly annoyed after asking for extra napkins. Ground beef was worse than Mexican Villa. Tasted like chilli meat. And I mean chilli. Salsa....yhe worst. Tomatoe sauce with onion. Awfulness! Will not return

  • Ben D.

Tried this place with 4 coworkers on a Tuesday night. The salsa came with a complimentary rubber band in it - classy. The food was bland but edible. My friend swallowed a bone that was in his chicken enchilada. To top off this gem, the service was awful even though we were only one if two tables. Will never go back nor will any of us that tried it.

    (2)
  • Jordan F.

Not too bad... My go to Mexican restaurant is El Puente here in town but a few coworkers suggested that we check this place out the other day for lunch. The chips are light and salsa very flavorful. The salsa was sweet and had a little spice to it. Lunch was also flavorful and very filling. The two other guys I was with did not have any complaints and seemed to enjoy the lunch too. Staff seemed to be a little annoyed for some reason and also were not quick to action but not too terrible. Not my favorite place but I would go back now and then.

Taco Tuesday is where it's at! I don't think you can get taco's any cheaper. Great food, great service.

    (4)
  • Andrew B.

Food wasn't bad. It's decent Mexican food. Service was terrible. We didn't have much of it in the fist place and they messed up four orders of simple tacos not once but twice. Waiter even got upset at us for not having our food.

    (1)
  • April B.

Food was good but service was terrible! We were with a large party (about 25-30) and our 2 kids were the only kids. Took over 10 min for the waitress to come start taking drink orders. Then when it came time to order the food, the Waitress decided to start farthest from us and get to the kids last (she must not have kids!) When she brought everyone else's food she had forgotten to place our order, making us and 2 small kids wait longer while watching everyone else eat. Needless to say my kids were hungry and getting incredibly bored by this point. If it weren't for the free chips and salsa to tide the kids over we probably would have walked out. Beef tacos were good but chicken tacos were better. I might get take out on Tuesdays when they have $1 tacos but I'll never dine - in here again.

Traveling through Springfield from Chicago and back to Texas... Obviously I know my Mexican food and this place didn't fail to hit the spot! There are a lot of choices on the menu; I had the chicken & shrimp while the hubs had the beef quesadilla. They were a good size, not too much to where we would have leftovers (which is good bc we're staying in a hotel, but otherwise I'd be left wanting more). Apparently they have a taco special on Tuesdays but I don't think we'll be able to make it back for that on this trip. If we ever come through Springfield again we'll make it a point to come back to Jose Loco's!

Best Mexican in Springfield! Always fast & friendly service, even when we have a large group. I try something new every time I go and have never been disappointed. The carnitas are amazing!

  • Vic B.

Probably the best fajitas I ever had. Beer was nice and cold. I would have given it 5 stars but for the service. Except for the bill, my waitress never came back after bringing me my food. They were too busy sitting together and talking at the end of the bar. It only cost themselves some business as I would have easily ordered another beer and probably desert had I been asked.

  • Kyleigh N.

We went for taco Tuesday- $1 tacos and $1.50 beers. Awesome! Food was really good and even though they were pretty busy service was prompt. Staff was really nice and the atmosphere was very laid back yet entertaining. The pico was different but very tasty. We haven't tried it yet on a normal night but the tacos were very authentic and yummy.

Excellent! My dish had a tamale and a Rellano. Chimichanga was off the hook. Wife had Chicken in creamy chipotle sauce. Off the hook! We loved the authentic Mexican flavor and the service was awesome. I eat authentic Mexican in south TX on a regular basis -this was just as good! Price was good. Our new go to Mexican spot! Got 2 tamales to go!

Food was delicious, service was fast, staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was great. Will definitely eat there again!

Best Mexican in Springfield. The process are really great, and the food quality and quantity are worth every penny. They offer great meals for any prove point. My favorite is the fajitas.

  • Yia T.

Overpriced Mexican food. Would be cheaper to go to any other Mexican restaurant for 3 to 5 dollars less per dish. My waitress had a really bad attitude for no reason.

Mark Twain once said "food is the fuel for the human experience." There are few times in life when the human experience is elevated to a higher plain of existence. One can find this rapturous moment in such fine establishments like the Italian restaurant Olive Garden, Australia's Outback Steakhouse, or the beloved Papa John's Pizzeria. Springfield, MO's very own Jose Loco does not achieve such greatness. From the moment my party entered this Mexican style eatery we knew trouble was brewing. Our hostess asked if we wanted menus. Menus!? Yes...we would like the one thing in your restaurant that tells us what we can order. All four of us ordered. And our waiter got all four orders wrong. This is not a point of exaggeration. Every single order was wrong. The service was TERRIBLE with a capital T - E - R - R - I - B - L- E. If you enjoy lackluster dog food that has been prepared by the cast of HBO's OZ, this place is for you. If this does not appeal to your human experience, drive to the closest homeless shelter and grab a bowl of Mystery Meat soup.

As I sip on my delicious Jose Locos margarita, I sit in the booth and wonder where this restaurant has been my whole life. I've been waiting for a delicious, fresh, and heavy handed margarita serving Mexican restaurant in Springfield for a long time and this, folks, is it. Our food came out fast, our waiter was friendly, and the atmosphere was great. The bar is the type you can get rowdy at if that's what your heart desires. I saw a guy with a guitar so there might be some serenading going on somewhere. The margarita is kicking in so all I'll leave you with is that you should stop by.

You'd have to be loco not to give this place a try! After eating here numerous times, I feel confident in giving this restaurant four stars. The staff has always been friendly regardless of how hectic it gets. The ambience is clean, festive and inviting. A vast menu selection still has my family and me discovering new dishes each trip. Now for the inevitable authenticity of the food remark. Well, I'll leave that to Rick Bayless and other individuals that are more well traveled in all the regions of Mexico and don't just have a Tijuana and Taco Bell experience under their belt. I enjoy their food and several meals reminded me of my trips to Mexico and Central America, so I'm a satisfied customer and will be back for more. Disclaimer: My posts are just my opinion. Vegans this one's for you! Chips are a firm enough to dip, light enough to enjoy, and without the oily texture. Salsa was of good consistency-good flavor - right amount of mild heat. I asked for some hotter salsa, I got one that was on the other end of the scale being on the hot side. So my wife and I mix the two salsas together and we had a fine flavored temperature wise good salsa. The presentation plate of my wife's Chalupa's and my fajitas was very pleasing. The mixture of vegetables for my fajitas was what fajitas were meant to be. It was not a frozen package of California blend vegetables that I see in so many different Mexican restaurants. Waiter was very attentive to our needs, checked on us several times, and brought additional items at our request. Passing by Springfield I would highly recommend stopping here. It is very easy to get to off of the interstate. it's worth the trip! Lots and lots of vegetarian/vegan options! Now when they add to the menu a Hatch green chili salsa, avocado salsa, and a Habanero salsa-then they will be ready to come to Oklahoma where we take our OkMex food seriously!!

First time to eat at Jose Locos. Went on a Tuesday, which is their $1.00 taco and $1.50 beer night (didn't know this beforehand), was a little crazy. Once we finally got seated our service was prompt and our server very courteous. The food was really good. I like carnitas and find good ones hard to find. These were full of flavor. The salsa was really good, as well. I loved the refried beans...silky smooth. Prices were right on.

I don't know why this place is rated so high it's pretty bland. I ordered cheese a enchilada with my meal. Instead of telling me it didn't come with that choice of enchilada she brought me a hamburger one. Wouldn't a wait person have mentioned that? It was gross! The rest of my meal was okay. Huge disappointment when so many things I find on yelp is wonderful.

Place was packed on a Friday night. Salsa was good and ordered a Dos Equis Amber on draft. Server asked if I wanted the one on special and I said sure. Turns out it must have been at least 32 oz for $5, great deal! Chili rellanos were good. They are cheese filled but not breaded. Other food was pretty bland.

I own a restaurant in Springfield so I don't usually review other restaurant just out of conflict of interest. But, I love this place. Good prices, friendly staff, good quick service, food tastes great. This is the best Mexican restaurant in Springfield for the total package. If you choose not to eat at my restaurant tonight, eat at Jose locos. Drink a rosarita for me

Cinco de Mayo 2014 at Jose Locos. It was our family's first visit, and they were packed. Even so they seated us within 5 minutes. The chips were good, the salsa better than most- very flavorful and nicely spicy. The food was also high quality and very reasonably priced. My husband's margarita was tasty and strong and my sweet iced tea was perfect. Wait staff was super nice and efficient: they promptly refilled drinks, chips and salsa, and made sure we were happy with everything. Nice atmosphere and the kids enjoyed it too! No complaints aside from the way my kids acted while they waited for us parents to finish eating...

I like it! I like it a lot!!! They just opened up their restaurant right down the road from my work which means probably will result in me having to join the gym. I can not imagine any better place to eat Mexican food at than at Jose Locos. Even though Jose never seems to be at work....

Very good! The owner served us and stated they had been open only 4 weeks. Great service and clean. The Tacos Asada were delicious. My husband had the steak burrito which was excellent! Good prices.

Absolutely the best Mexican in Springfield. About the only Mexican restaurant we eat at in town.

  • Taylor D.

The owner of this restaurant used to own Cielito Lendo across the street! I had been going there since I was a very little girl and absolutely loved their food! They also treat you like one of the family. I always celebrated my birthday there, so when I turned 21, they gave me a free tequila shot! They are amazing people. This new restaurant might be even better! The food is fantastic and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. If you ever want Mexica food in Springfield, this is the place to go! You truly can't go wrong on any of their dishes!

I went to Jose Locos last night for the first time, and gotta say, I have found my new favorite Mexican Joint in town! The singe, decor and menus are all very modern, warm and comfortable. The restaurant is extremely clean and the staff was fast, polite and welcoming. But the true highlight, as it should always be, was the food! Although it's not exactly a traditional Mexican item, I ordered the Philly Cheese Steak-rito. It is an instant favorite, and I could tell by the way my waitress smiled when I placed my order that I had made the right choice. I actually noticed her on her break eating one while we were there. My advice? Hit this place up ASAP. Don't let it become one of the many restaurants in its area that have come and gone in a matter of months. Gone tonight!

  • Matt V.

With the overwhelming plethora of Mexican food choices it is nice to find one that stands high above the rest. Tonight was the first time that I have eaten at Jose Locos and it was amazing. Both the service and food were excellent. The waitress was very accommodating and even with a rush we never felt neglected. The food tasted great all around with nothing but good comments from everyone in our party. I believe we found our new go to place for Mexican.

Really great food. Satisfying without being too heavy or overly spicy. Choyo poyo is very tasty. The chicken is well seasoned and enhanced by the chorizo. The service was fast, friendly, and attentive. Definite recommendation.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
