This Bread is like crack. Try the pretzel bread, cinammon roll bread, cherry pie bread. Better yet, get a calendar from the counter that tells when they make the different types of bread. Mom and Pop owned. I work next door and as soon as we open the pharmacy, the wonderful smell of fresh baked bread fills my nose. What a wonderful place!

The quintessential and often overlooked staple of any well-rounded meal is the bread. When prepared with care, bread becomes that savory side dish which unties and often carries the other meal items down the hatch. For anyone who has ever spent an afternoon elbow deep in flour and yeast, working with bread's finicky ingredients can often be frustrating and un-rewarding. It takes just one bite to realize that the Breadsmith is an artisan to the tragically under-appreciated craft of turning ordinary ingredients into sandwich-transforming bread. I have tried several different varieties of their bread including the French Baguettes, Honey White, Wheat Loaf, and the Ciabatta. My assessment is that their loaves tend to be on the more rustic and earthy side. When taking a bite of their bread, I get the impression that I am eating something substantial... Especially in contrast to the air-filled lifeless white sandwich loaves that I have been consuming most of my life. The slightly rougher and more stiff texture means that their bread is a highly stable vehicle for your most wild sandwich fantasies. The only downfall seems to be that it operates according to the bakery formula... meaning you have to wake up early to get the goods. But even the Breadsmith has a solution for this! They send their buttery loaves to at least one local grocery store that I know of (Harter House). Even while shopping in the evening, I can still usually manage a good find. As you might imagine, the loaves are a tad pricey (as far as bread is concerned), but hard work and effort ought to be rewarded. Besides, just their white bread is far superior to any run of the mill bleached white flour "Wonderbread" variety that you have been mistreating your body with. Bottom line is, if you like a hearty sandwich you have to try these slices as your building blocks.

This is the best place to buy quality bread in Springfield. You'll find a wide variety of carb deliciousness - form whole grains to sinfully fluffy white bread. Be sure to check out their website. They have some quick and easy recipes for their breads. This place is carb heaven!

I am happy I don't live close to the Breadsmith. I would weigh 700 pounds and probably end up in a carb coma on the sidewalk in front of their store. Needless to say, their bread is spectacular. Everything I've ever had from here is good-from the basic dinner rolls to the fancy specialty loaves. Be sure to pick up a calendar that shows what day they will be baking an extra special type. I am a big fan of their garlic cheese bread, which has swirls of cheese and big chunks of garlic...it's heavenly, and someday I will not inhale half a loaf so I can get it home and heat it up. I can only imagine that bread warm from the oven. The staff is fantastic as well-they will offer you samples and often have a loaf or two in their display case that they will let you try. I could go on and on about Breadsmith, but it's easier if you just go. You'll find something you can't live without trying or taking home.

Absolutely love this place! I am originally from Erie, PA, and on my first visit down here, my future sister-in-law took me here. Now, three years later, I'm living in Springfield and Breadsmith has already become one of my staples! They offer a great variety of breads, baked fresh - you can smell the aroma as soon as you walk in the door. Every bread I've tried has been absolutely amazing. Yes, it is pricier than going to the grocery store, but worth every cent. My personal favorite: the cheddar sourdough bread. Another great thing about this place: the personal service. Almost every time my fiance and I go in there, we are not only told the specialty breads of the day, but even given ideas for pairings, such as what kind of spread is best on each different bread. You can tell that the workers are passionate about what they do, they're not just drudges in it for the paycheck. We are always treated warmly and welcomed, and with only our second visit, the gentleman working the counter had remembered that I prefer my bread unsliced. We were given a calendar for the bread specials (which is now on our fridge) and were directed to the website, which I've just checked out and am really impressed with - lots of great tips and information there, too! Great service! Great bread! What's else is there to say?
