I have always been a fan. However, the prices have gone up a lot! MSG is through the roof.

Went back again because I was very impressed with my first visit. I have to say this time was not as good. They seem to ALWAYS have the sandwiches out of stock. If you're not serving the sandwiches anymore just take it off the damn menu!! Always a disappointment. The server this time was not awesome. They forgot about us. There was only 2 tables in there at the time. My fresh spring rolls were MOST def not fresh. But the pho was excellent!! So far the pho is the only thing that has not failed me when going there. I don't think I'll be going back to this place.

We came in for 5 minutes, but the whole place smelled of cigarette smoke. It wasn't worth staying, so we left before placing an order. Update - The smoke comes from Just for Him next door. Unfortunately that really ruins the dining experience.

I have been many Vietnamese places but this one was just not good. Pho was way too sweet and the noodles were overcooked.

I've been eating at Bambu for a few years. Their service is always friendly, though it often takes ages for the food to hit the table. I did return to try the Pho and, though not the best I've had, it is fairly tasty. My biggest complaint is that there seems to be significant variation in the flavor of the broth. Sometimes it's rich and aromatic, other times it's a little flat and too salty. Still, it always comes with a generous helping of noodles and the usual heap of (usually) very fresh herbs. I recommend the meatballs and the brisket.

Vietnamese and Thai restaurants have grown exponentially in the last few years in Springfield has been fast and Bambu has done fairly well. While there is still room for improvement, Bambu does have some positive traits. Dinner is the best time to eat here since they don't have the best service for a quick lunch. While the service might be lagging somewhat, the food definitely makes up for this shortfall. The varieties of fried rice, pho noodles, soups, and pad thai are good and the different types of pork, shrimp, and beef dishes go well with all. I'd highly recommend getting the spring and rice noodle rolls to start. I had bubble tea for the first time here and I have to admit it was actually a good drink., Bambu does well with its food quality and variety, but they could work on their customer service and response time.

5 start food. 5 start service. The ambiance is lacking. Be a little adventurous and go with the Vietnamese style of soup. My only complaint would be the amount of screaming kids running around and acting like it's a play ground. I would normally nit blame this on a restaurant but after watching it seemed that this was family of owners or workers there. I was annoyed and it was very unacceptable. Food was very very good and my server was just awesome. Also $1 beer night on Tuesday is a plus.

You must be right about them not needing business. We were told to "come back & never order again!", by some woman lacking any knowledge as to how to run a restaurant & not much in the English dept either. Very reminiscent of the Soup Nazi. Our crime? Ordering $40 of take-out, which we waited over 30 minutes to place the order for & once we got home, daring to call & ask if they may have confused our order with someone else's since only 1 of the 3 items we ordered was correct or prepared & ready to eat or even heated up. The rice noodles for the pho were obviously old leftovers as they were stuck together & the consistency of a piece of gooey styrofoam, & they, along with the meat & veggies were in a container straight out of the refrigerator, intended, I'm guessing, for us to heat up & add to some lukewarm-ish broth, but using our own dish to do so as none was provided. The curry was ice cold as well, although the dried up stale rice provided for that, was slightly warm, so there's that... I was told on the phone that the kitchen had closed 5 minutes ago so we could bring the food back tomorrow or some other future time, & they'd probably swap it out for us. I told her, politely, that this would leave us with nothing to eat for dinner that night, so were there any other options? She said we could come back & get our money or she would see if she could talk anyone into correcting our order, but I better hurry up & decide. I opted for getting a refund so I could get some food elsewhere, over getting food with their spit in it, since I was obviously an asshole for expecting them to fix their mistakes when it was inconvenient for them. I was there in less than 10 minutes, but the front door was locked. I knocked, but was ignored by the several employees whom I had eye contact with as they just sat there at a table. I continued to knock louder until they finally reluctantly came to the door. At this point I was still trying to be polite about it, & just calmly show them the unprepared, incorrect order so as to get my money refunded, but they felt no such obligation. This is when the manager (?), tried to blame the weather and/or us for our food being cold. That was BS, but we moved on to mention a few of the other mistakes, still being civil, but it was starting to sound as though she was not going to refund our money, when she asked us "why we couldn't just heat it up in a microwave & fix it ourselves?" What if we were staying in a hotel or eating it somewhere besides home? The reason to order take-out vs going to the grocery store, is to purchase food that's ready to eat. I don't want to cook when I pay someone else to. When we once again asked if we could just get our money back, she became very belligerent, telling us to "shut up" & "to come back & never order food there again!" We were incredulous at first, but when Ashton Kutcher never appeared, we knew we weren't being punked. We couldn't help but laugh at how ridiculous the whole thing had been, as she continued to yell at us to shut up, not allowing us to even talk to each other. I was handed $29 & some change rather than the $36 on my ticket plus a $4 tip I had given the hostess, so I guess she decided to fine us $11 as a nuisance fee for daring to complain. I would like to say that I've been kicked out of far better places than that, but this was actually a 1st. I have worked in many restaurants over the years, starting as a teen, in many capacities, & my husband worked his way up to VP of operations for a chain, so I have always been very tolerant & rarely complain unless things are beyond overlooking, but I've never seen any restaurant employee behave so inappropriately towards a customer, especially with such legitimate, civilly-voiced complaints, when all that needed to be done to make it right was to refund our money & not argue with us about the legitimacy them. She told us to come back, but never order food or talk in there again, but I will refrain from all 3. Lol!

My wife and I have been looking for a Vietnamese restaurant since we relocated from Central Texas. We recently went here for lunch and we will definitely be going back. We both ordered lemon grass Bun (vermicelli), mine with chicken and her's with tofu. She loved her dish but I was a little.. not into mine. Not Bambu's fault. I pretty much just got what I would have gotten back home without really thinking about it. It was cooked well and the flavors were very good. Just a little too much of a basil/ cilantro flavor for me. The service was great and the egg rolls were some of the best I've had in a very very long time. We were even offered a botched dessert that another customer didn't want but we were both too full (I'm not super picky. Not "liking" my food won't keep me from eating) so we passed. I look forward to going back when we next go to Springfield.

I absolutely love this place! The male server I wish I could remember his name, but, He Is A Wonderful server. I've never had a bad experience at this resturant. Occasionally I've had a long wait time 30 to 55 minutes. The food makes every minute worth waiting for. I can't say anything negative about this place. Absolutely love it.

Although the food here is good they could really lay off the MSG. The pho is great tasting and the Boba tea is really good, but there is one other issue with this place...the service. I love leaving a tip for a good waiter or waitress but I have a very hard time even leaving a dime at this place. You can be waiting for someone to seat you for 10 to 15 minutes and then nobody will even take your drink order for another 10. They really need to get it together if they don't want to lose business because I know for a fact I'm not the only one who stopped going to this place for that reason.

I have Bambu to thank for my boyfriend and I's new addiction to pho. How we found ourselves here: we read about a band we love being obsessed with pho, asked "But what is pho like?", threw a dart via good ol' Google, and came to Bambu for dinner. The second we sat down and looked at the menu, we knew we had come to the right place. That being said, we knew we wanted pho, so that's what we ordered. For anyone not familiar, pho is a Vietnamese noodle soup dish that typically comes in a hearty broth and is buffered with things like scallions, sprouts, meats, and more. My choice from their selection was pho tai bo vien, which came with thin rare beef and meatballs, which was about $8. It took me a second to get used to it, but I loved it instantly. The broth was complex and rich, the noodles were perfect and clear, and the meatballs and beef were mouth wateringly good. I added a few splashes of Sriracha and a handful of sprouts to mine and was good to go. My boyfriend dumped a bucket of Sriracha to his and struggled a little, so a few squirts will probably do you over. Our waitress was great, the food was fast, the aesthetic was dim and intimate, and the other tables were clearly regulars, American/Vietnamese/Vietnamese-American alike. I say that a lot about the places I review, but sometimes you can just tell it's got a consistent customer base, and I trust that. The only real reason I gave Bambu four stars is because it was my first time experiencing Vietnamese food - but it really was fantastic. I definitely plan to come back and try more items so I can turn around and give it five.

Was in the area and found this on yelp. Not bad at all. And there's a large parking lot to fit in a big rig :). Friendly staff, nice selection of Vietnamese music. On to the food.. Pho Dac biet was good. The noodles, broth, meat. The spring rolls would've been better FRESHly rolled. The peanut sauce was okay. IMO, egg rolls weren't the best. Saigon beer, Ohhhh soo good! I'd come back again to try other dishes. Taking a vermicilli dish, banh mi, and some boba to go, follow up to come. Banh mi was asked with garnishes on the side, as it should! Was good! Boba was alright. All in all, I'd come back.

I am new to Vietnamese cuisine so I'm a little lost when it comes to what to expect on the menu. However, the waitress was very helpful. My wife and I both ordered the Seafood Noodle Soup with clear noodles and the Boba tea (Green tea flavor). Everything was wonderful. This is a nice, peaceful place to enjoy lunch or dinner. I look forward to dining here again!

Exceptional food and service!!! Some weeks I wish I could eat there everyday. The BBQ pork is fantastic. So are the Springrolls (GOI CUON), egg rolls (CHA GIO) and PHO!!! I really haven't had a dish I didn't like.

I had a bad experience here. Maybe this could be partly attributed to them having an off-night. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the smell of cigarettes. At first, I thought that maybe someone had been smoking outside when I arrived and I somehow brought the stink in with me. As I walked further into the restaurant, the smell only got more stale. I was there for over a half an hour (see below). The smell never went away. I have no idea why. Hmm. Strike one. The second thing we noticed was that there were discarded shrimp tails (two of them) on the sauce tray at our table. The shrimp tails were obviously at least several days old. YUCK! Strike two. Still, I was determined to try the food. So we ordered some spring rolls and some Pho. A couple minutes after we ordered, a man came in and ordered quickly. We watched as the man that arrived and ordered after us got his Spring Rolls first. No biggie, I figured. We will be next. 15 minutes later, he got his entree. So the guy that ordered after us got his appetizer first, finished it, and had an entree in front of him before we even got our appetizer. That was strike three. We got up and left. On my way out, the waiter looked at me with a surprised look. I discreetly and quietly explained why we were leaving in a matter of fact manner. Wasn't rude or angry. To his credit, he wasn't rude or angry either. He apologized and wished us a pleasant evening. We did the same. It's a shame. While I'd like to try the food, I won't be going back. Honestly, they could have the best Vietnamese food in the world and it wouldn't matter to me. I have no desire to support a restaurant with such complete disregard for its customers.

Food is good, but customer service SUCKS. They really need more then one waiter to keep this place going. People can't be waiting for 20 min to be seated, 20 more minutes for drinks and another HOUR for food. And for business's sake, go to HOME-DEPOT, buy a can of paint and a brush and do some maintenance.

I ate here last night with my gf(12-26-14). I was excited to go to a restaurant I've heard such good things about. Shortly after being seated a waitress took our drink orders after waiting a little over five minutes the host came by and asked us our drink and food order. It took an additional eight mins to get our waters. At this point I was still remaining optimistic and was excited about the food. We both ordered soup, it took almost a half hour for it to come and twenty minutes for our overcooked egg rolls. Not only were they understaffed the service was not impressive. My gf got food poisoning and is currently vomiting as we speak. The only good thing I got out of this place was the boba tea, everything else was terrible. I will never go back.

  • Roda A.

This used to be a good place but they've really let the place down in my opinion. The boba I had ordered used to be awesome and when I ordered today it was too powdery and barely had any boba pearls in it!! The Vietnamese egg roll I ordered to go had rotten looking carrots. So disappointed! Try Asia Express instead for their Vietnamese food.

Good (not great) pho and rice noodles but the bubble tea leaves a lot to be desired. Avoid. The service was a little lacking as the waitress was no where to be found when we wanted extra sauce (which they charged for) maybe she was new. In conclusion, will not go out of my way to eat here unless I have an insane pho craving.

It may just be the fact that I am not a fan of Vietnamese food, but this was NOT for me. I hate reading all of the wonderful reviews that Bambu has gotten and knowing that I didn't like it. If you love Vietnamese food, give it a try-everyone else seems to love it. I started my meal with the spring rolls because these are usually my favorite, these were nothing like other spring rolls I have had, there was enough mint leaf in each roll to make 5 mojitos. While I did love the peanut sauce, the rolls were just not for me. For an entree I got the shredded pork & BBQ on vermicelli, it was also like no vermicelli I have ever had. I am sure I just had a bad experience, maybe next time will be better. I must say the boba tea here was the best I have ever had. I got a mixture of papaya and passion fruit and it tasted like paradise in a glass. I hope this helps.

I enjoyed the salmon but it was a bit dry this time. Always good spring rolls and peanut sauce. I'm gonna try other places because I've been eating at Bambu for a while. Maybe I can discover a hidden pearl for Vietnamese cuisine.

I am a huge fan of bamboo. If you have never tried Vietnamese I recommend any of the vermicelli bowls (bun bowls.) I go here often and am never disappointed. The fresh spring rolls are excellent. Delivery service is available through lightning delivery, which is an awesome service here in town. My one complaint is that the restaurant smells like cigarette smoke. I notice it when I first walk in, but then I get used to it and it doesn't bother me.

Awful and rude!!! I'm only giving this a star because yelp is making me. Used to like this place and would stop every time we came through Springfield. We stopped the other day and nobody came out to seat us after fifteen minutes (no sing up stating to wait) we finally went and sat down on our own. The waitress saw us sit down and then proceeded to completely ignore us. We waited about five minutes before another waiter came out and sat a couple waiting by the doors down across from us. Then he passed out menus and took there drink order. He walked right past us without acknowledging we where there and went into the kitchen. Needless to say we left. I will never visit this place again, I'm not sure why we where ignored but apparently they don't need our business.

The food here is wonderful, especially for the price. I've had the pho, vermicelli, and spicy soup. It's all delicious, and the soups are a treat in cold weather. Unfortunately the service is slow and sometimes inattentive. Servers are polite, but seem overwhelmed. Two servers cannot handle a Friday night or weekend evening. So bring plenty of patience to pair with that pho!

    (4)
  • Rachel B.

I love pho so I love going here to get my fix. The spring rolls are excellent too. My only complaint is there is no veggie pho option. I like to mix it up sometimes and order my pho veggie (usually comes with tofu, cabbage, carrots and broccoli) but I don't even get the option here.

WHAT A GREAT PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My girfriend had been sick lately, and I knew she needed to eat some soup-type of food to help her out. She had said that this place was a good one, so we decided to go. The beginning of my time there was a bit bumpy as no one approached us after we were seated for about 15 minutes but, when our waiter finally came over, he was as pleasant as ever. He apologized for the wait and took our orders. He was VERY knowledgeable and explained the dishes we were considering down to the last detail. The food took a decent amount of time to get to us, but my girlfriend said that this was not normal. All of the other times she had been there, food came quick. It was easy to look over this. When the food arrived, it was awesome. It was completely worth the wait! I don't know the name of what I got, but it was fantastic. It was a pho-type of soup that was spicy. It had ham and beef in it along with the other veggies. Whatever it was, it was SO good! My girlfriend ordered one of the pho selections and asked for it to be vegetarian. She thoroughly enjoyed it as well. We talked with our waiter further and, as it turns out, he was one of the owners as well! I was shocked as he was a young guy (24), but you could tell he has passion for what he does. I asked him about the process to make their pho broth as I know a bit about how it's made. What I didn't know was that they make a lot of their sauces in-house as well! He told me his vision for the restaurant and some of the improvements that he wants to make. I was very impressed! What a sharp guy! We will definitely be returning!

Delicious! I live out of town now, I miss it so much! My favorite is the v3, but I get it with rice instead of noodles. Also the chicken cabbage salad is very good.

Sorry folks, if you've had Vietnamese elsewhere, then this rates as mediocre. The pork and eggrolls on my bun were tasty, and it was a pretty presentation but the bun had a weird starchy aftertaste and the lettuce was brown. Kind of shabby interior and not so spiffy bathrooms too. This place is ok in a pinch, but I'd hold out for better.

  • Nickie M.

This place is never a let down. The barbeque pork or beef is always delicious! Also try the spring and egg rolls! I have never had an egg roll I love. In fact, I rarely try, more so, order egg rolls, but I tried theirs today and loved it!! Even better with the fish sauce it comes with! Prices are very reasonable as well!

No questions about it. This is the goto spot for good Phõ around Springfield. Friendly staff, lots of tables but nothing fency about the location. They open later than most Vietnamese places around here. Bowls are nicely loaded but little shy on meat balls. Thai tea and bubba tea is also on the menu. Bring on the chopsticks!

I have 15+ check-ins at Bambu on my Yelp! application. I've lived in Springfield for about 6 months... that should give you an idea of how much I enjoy this place. Most weeks I'm there once a week. The food here is fresh, authentic, and delicious! The service is always very polite and prompt. My standards are the fresh spring rolls (the most amazing appetizer in Springfield) and the Pho (a broth soup available with a variety of meats and rice noodles with accompaniments on the side). Add some of the sprouts, jalapeno, fresh herbs, and some hoisin and/or sehracha sauce and you're good to go! The vermicelli bowls are a very excellent dish as well (occasionally I get one to mix-it up a bit). Boba teas are a delectable and refreshing drink with tapioca pearls. There's been nothing I've ordered that wasn't delicious. It's my hands-down favorite place to eat in Springfield. If you've never had Vietnamese food, don't be afraid... I took one of my country co-workers who'd never normally go to a place like that and he loved it. It's really simple food done really well with fresh ingredients. And to help out from a couple of previous reviews: There sizes are very big. If you want something smaller order the P2 (beef) or the P7 (chicken) in the kids size... I order that size sometimes depending on my appetite. Also, since I was born, raised and lived 25 years in southern California (a hotbed of Asian food), this place is even hot to those of us from California who don't come to the mid-west and anywhere that's not California and pretend that everything is so small town and not authentic... whatever, this place is off the chain. Quit trying to big time us in the mid-west just because you choose to live in an overpopulated area and drive your 12 miles to work in a 2-hour commute. Personally, I'm done with those days. *8/2011 Update - The service here has gotten horrendous... they've apparently hired some waitresses with ZERO waiting experience and everything is slow. The orders, the drinks coming, the lack of refills, waiting 15 minutes after you're done eating for the check... definitely not a top-notch experience anymore, I've left frustrated the last 3 visits.

Honestly, if this place blows your mind, it's because you've never had Vietnamese food before. Every dish I had was standard. Fresh and quality, but nothing out of this world. Everyone keeps talking about the pho. It's pho, people. Pho is good. This restaurant is not amazing just because they serve it. Our food came out extremely fast, and was fine. Two complaints: the eggrolls tasted overwhelmingly of cooked carrots. The boba tea is also nothing special. No actual fruit (which is what makes bubble tea seriously awesome), just sugary powdered mix, sweetened condensed milk, half and half, and milk. How do I know? I watched the waitress make ours.

The food is great and the service is extraordinary. One waiter in particular (can't remember his name) is outstanding, one of the best servers I've ever had. Of course, the pho is great, but I love the vermicelli dishes--light and healthy, but full of flavor and piled high. I'm also a fan of the combination fried rice and lemongrass chicken. Entree portions are very generous.

Bambu has banh mi now! It's definitely decent for Springfield. I know you can also get banh mi at Rolls and Bowls on W. Sunshine, but I think Bambu's is significantly better. The proportions are good and the jalapenos are sliced thinly enough to be spicy but not kill you. I also love the chicken cabbage salad--really fresh and crunchy, and the vermicelli bowl with the grilled pork and sliced egg roll on top. The boba is okay. I love boba tea so I order it anyway, but I've had some reallly questionably textured pearls in there a few times (hard and chewy, strangely salty--that kind of thing). Mango is my go to flavor but pineapple and avocado are also good. I wish they were all a little less creamy and tasted more like real, fresh fruit. Oh, and get the fresh rolls.

The good stuff first: the staff. The service was efficient and friendly. The bad: the smell of old cigarettes and incense. Yuk! The "meh": the food. Unfortunately the good service doesn't make up for just ok pho and for a bad smelling restaurant. Made me miss my favorite pho restaurant at home...

Just A-OK in my book. I realize Springfield, MO is not a hotbed for Vietnamese cuisine so you need to take what you can get when you're here. I was craving pho and my brother says this is the only place he goes (Not really by choice anyways) and we did a take-out order. I got the rare beef/meatball and a taro boba. YUMMY BOBA! The soup was lukewarm by the time we got home. I quickly put the rare beef in the soup so it could cook and thankfully it did. The broth was a bit on the sweet side, and meatballs kinda small. They only have one size so sadly I couldn't finish the portion. We also ordered egg rolls too and those were very good too, also love the sweet/sour sauce they provide. All in all a good healthy option for Asian cuisine in this town that has several Chinese places but not really much else.

  • Elizabeth H.

I was so disappointed. I wanted to like Bambu very much! I just couldn't get into it with all of the cilantro and the texture of the spring roll wrapper (very gummy and sticky, as if it had been sitting around in water too long). They do great things with tofu, but their house peanut sauce was pretty awful, too: it tasted like homemade peanut butter, soy sauce, rice wine, and sesame oil (in other words bland, grainy, and over-sweet). The boba is fantastic, though, and very cheap as far as boba goes, but maybe even that's not worth a return trip....

MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT IN SPRINGFIELD!! It is excellent and the service is always great. The Spring Rolls are a must and I always ask for extra peanut sauce which they provide at NO COST!! I do not believe that there is a single thing on their menu that is over $10 and it is a great experience if you are looking for something different.

This place is fabulous! The food is delicious and the pricing is even better. We used to go to a Vietnamese restaurant in Phoenix, AZ for Pho, but Bambu is by far much better. The broth and quality of meats are great. We also had the spring rolls which were also great. During happy hour the beers are decently priced too. The food is delicious, the service is friendly and prompt and the pricing you can't beat.

Where can you get SE Asian food, Wii play for the kids, Karaoke, and a Springfield-style Boba tea?! Bambu Vietnamese Restaurant of course!! Bambu is a cool lil restaurant that offers authentic Vietnamese soups, rice dishes, drinks, and so on. For Springfield Mo Vietnamese food, this place is a 5 star. If you're used to coastal Viet restaurants however, it might only be a 3.5 or 4 star. We went tonight... by 'we' I mean my Viet boyfriend Anthony H, and 3 of my nieces/nephews. We had... combination fried rice which was yummy, bun bo hue (spicy beef noodle soup) which was yummy and pretty spicy!, and a seafood Pho which was okay. We tried their summer rolls and eggrolls and while I preferred the fresh healthy taste of the summer rolls, the kids didn't like the mint in them and preferred the eggrolls. Their boba tea was... kinda a frozen ice thing with boba, not at all like regular boba tea but still pretty tastey! We got the green tea and liked it. The best part of the restaurant for me was the decor and food, the best part of the restaurant for the kids was the eggrolls and the Wii Monday night that we happened to walk into. There were 2 boys who were engaging the kids and helping them learn the Wii. Nintendo should hire these boys cause they promoted Wii so well. haha Anyway, all the kids got to play rock band, and then some Wii sports games. Apparently, Wed night is karaoke night! It was fun and the everyone will definitely be back! See ya there! :)

Finally, somewhere with boba tea! I had no idea they served this here! Tried the pho based on reviews even though I am not adventurous with food and it was pretty good, just be warned it is served in huge bowls!

My favorites at Bambu are the spring rolls and the rice deluxe. The pho is also very good, and I think the menu is quite authentic. When I've gone on Sundays, the service has been less than stellar. The waiters and waitresses are usually very good, but I've waited an awfully long time for a take out order I placed 30 minutes earlier, and the restaurant was not crowded. Food=great; Dining in is better than take out.

The food here is fantastic...so fresh and tasty! The Spring rolls are a must-try!

Excellent!!!!! This is possibly my favorite restaurant in the USA! The food is flavorful and fresh and the service is remarkable. We have had two different servers during our visits to Bambu and both were exceptional. They were very knowledgeable and even able to make substitutions and suggestions. The spring rolls are amazing. The vermicelli dishes are so tasty and the bubble tea is just the right ending to a wonderful meal. I highly recommend this restaurant!

    1. If you order boba/bubble tea, even if you are staying, they may give you a to-go cup. If you ask for a refill, it is free. Better ask for the glass cup - for the same price it is twice the size. 2. Take the leaves off the thai basil. If you put the whole stem and leaves into soup, the stem makes it bitter.

The service wasn't as bad as some have written. In fact, our waiter was great when we arrived: he fetched drinks quickly, answered my wife's questions about gluten-free items, and was generally helpful. Unfortunately, he disappeared when we asked for a to-go container. After 15 minutes, we walked to the front where he noticed us and we were able to pay. The food was good. I had the combination fried rice and my wife had a vermicelli dish. I prefer the combination fried rice at Riksha or Chopsticks, but it was alright, and my wife got inspired to make some of this at home. Overall, pretty good. I'm not a fan of Vietnamese food, so your review may have more stars than mine by that fact alone.

I'm debating on how to rate this review. As Susan mentioned, for Springfield, this is certainly a 5-star place, but for us from California, it's not so hot. I took some of my family there, and honestly they aren't too adventurous when it comes to trying new things, but I had good feedback from them. This place is just slightly off the mark in regards to authentic Vietnamese food, but it is certainly close. For instance, in the pho ga, the chicken should have the skin on it; the bun dishes should have fried scallions, etc. For those of you who want to know, this is straight up Vietnamese cuisine, and has nothing to do with Chinese food. The only caveat to that is bubble tea, or boba, originated from Taiwan, but I digress. Their pho is delicious. This is southern style pho as it comes with bean sprouts, cilantro, lime, and jalapeno on the side; the staff even suggested adding Hoisin sauce to the pho (which completely ruins the broth by the way). My mom ordered the pho ga (chicken pho) and really loved the broth. I tried to get her to slurp her noodles, but she refused. I ended up ordering the bun thit nuong cha gio (vermicelli noodles with grilled pork and egg roll). This came with a small dish of fish sauce, which is meant to be dumped in its entirety over your bun. The only thing I could deduce that was missing was fried scallions. The staff was great and very helpful. I was a little confused as the service is certainly tailored for the area; normally Vietnamese servers take your order immediately upon being seated, bring your food, and bring your check to you. They seem to spend a little more time with there service here, so that is a good thing. As for their boba drinks, they aren't quite what they should be, but you can only do so much with the foods you have available for purchase in the area. They put extremely too much taro mix in my boba drink, but it was still tasty. My mom even liked the taste of it, so that was a plus. If you're feeling adventurous, definitely give this place a try. I was very pleasantly surprised and quite happy with my food. You probably can't get any better Vietnamese food in the area, but for now I'm simply going to keep it a 4-star until they get a few kinks worked out and step up their flavors with pure, authentic preparation styles.

Choices are pretty darn slim when it comes to Vietnamese in Springfield. Thankfully, you've got a great one. I ordered my usual vermicelli combo with pork, spicy grilled shrimp and an egg roll. I thought the egg roll was a bit "sweet" to my taste. I'm not saying it's bad, just not what I want in an egg roll. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. If I work in town again, I'll certainly come back to try out their pho.

The pho was great. So were the spring rolls. Will definitely go back again. Awesome restaurant, my new fav place to eat in Springfield.

One of my favorite places to go when I'm in Springfield. Although a little pricy, the food is a lot better compared to the Vietnamese restaurants in St. Louis. Service is great, the drinks are tasty. The one thing that irks me is that I have to pay an additional $1.50 for a fried egg on my Rice dish when its supposed to be included with the dish. Its like having to pay for toast on a Breakfast plate. Aish.

Came all the way from Florida for their boba tea with soy milk-especially the taro! Yummy ! The pho-soups are delicious! Filled with lots of veggies and fresh ingrediants. Been eating here since they opened. Prices are reasonable. Service was a little slow this time though it was busy. Tip: The portions are pretty large, especially the soup. Their fresh spring rolls are wonderful!

This place is great! Even though I was a wuss and wouldnt try my soup the "traditional" way (with added pig's blood!) I still thought it was flavorful and the meat was tender. I'm also a big fan of the chicken curry although I dont like that the chicken is still on the bone and a little hard to eat. All dishes come in a HUGE helping but suprisingly not hard to finsh, lol! Also, the pineapple Boba tea = YUM! :)

I was really hoping Bambu would prove a substitute for Little Saigon (sad, sad RIP) but it's just not. The summer rolls - veg & pork - are rolled with a long, unusually textured piece of lemongrass, but otherwise they, and the accompanying peanut sauce and Thai ice tea, were the highlights of the meal. I had one of the measly three veg options: a mound of rice alongside a pile of tofu, carrots, peppers, broccoli, and onions, with a sauce that was a little too reminiscent of snot for my taste. My mom had the cabbage salad with chicken and liked it, but it caused her problems later in the day. Probably not going back.

First things first, This is the very first Vietnamese dish I've ever tried, so I really have no idea how it is suppose to taste. I liked it, don't get me wrong, it had many new flavors I had never experienced. The girl that helped me figure out what I might like was very helpful. I also learned what Tripe is... Disturbing! I've heard from a friend that I need to go back some time and try the Pho. I'll give it another try here soon, Note to SandyHu H. I think they use the TV's for Karaoke at night at least, but I totally agree with you

Really enjoy eating at Bambu! They have a great gluten free menu. I've eaten here many times and have never become ill. It is the first restaurant my son wants to go to when he comes here from New York City.

Wow! This is the real stuff. My adventurous son ordered Pho Tai Gau Gan Sach, which was a delicious soup with TENDONS and TRIPE (this is a guy who won't eat chicken with bones, what was he thinking...) and it was really, really good. The service was quick, the food was served at the right temperature, and yummy. The only disconcerting thing was all the large TV monitors. ??? What's up with that?? Am I missing something? I'd rather pay attention to my food and dining companions. I will go back.

I've eaten at Bambu several times. I would have to say, the food is very authentic, which is a nice thing to find in springfield. I've enjoyed the majority of food I've eaten here. I did however become adventurous one time and ate one of the more traditional soups -the Pho Deluxe I think - (which contains tripe and beef tendon) and it was bit intense for me. I would suggest the Bun Bo Xao Xa (Lemongrass Beef) or the Com Ga Xao Sa Ot (Lemongrass Chicken) for someone who's never been before. The Crab Rangoon are awesome and definitley dont forget the Boba tea It's the only place I know of in springfield that serves it..yummy!

I had a relaxing lunch at Bambu and their banh mi was among the very best I've had anywhere. My taro boba tea was good, too. The atmosphere is pretty nice but I did notice a LOT of splatters of sauce and whatever else all over the wall, floor, etc. So they definitely lose a star for that. Great friendly service.

  • James M.

I wasn't impressed considering some of the reviews that I read. I started out with the fresh spring rolls which were your typical rolls with veggies and shrimp. For my main dish I had the spicy noodle soup. It was not bad, but I've had better. Just felt like it was missing another flavor to really take it over the top. I didn't like the fact that they served me iceberg lettuce that was brown and wilted rather than the triditional fresh bean sprouts. The Vietnamese ice black coffee is premade and not served the traditional way over a glass of ice. For those reasons I give it a 3 star. Service was good and the place was clean.

I had never tried Vietnamese food prior to Bambu. I'm absolutely in love with it now. Their Pho soups are fresh and delicious. The noodle dishes and spring rolls are delightful. There are many items on the menu I haven't tried ,but the staff is great at explaining everything.

My favorite Vietnamese place in Springfield. The staff knows the menu really well and the prices are amazing. My go to is the chicken cabbage salad or any kind of Pho. You can't go wrong at this place for lunch or dinner, any season.

I'm from Hawaii and shocked that Springfield has such great vietnamese food. The lemongrass chicken, chicken noodle pho, and Springfield was right up there with Hawaii.

I heart Bambu. They have a simple, straightfoward menu and everything I've had is delicious. The spring rolls are so yummy with those fresh herbs inside. Service is always good and I've never had to wait for a table. Avoid the Vietnamese coffee though.

Even though they have a limited list of adult beverages, the pho is very good. I go here almost weekly, and I've never been disappointed. The staff is also very friendly and helpful if you've never eaten Vietnamese. There was a problem in the kitchen one night so my dish was unavailable, but our server made the best of it and recommended a wonderful alternative! I was delightfully surprised.

Although I'm not doubting that Bambu is the best place for Vietnamese in town, I don't know if that's saying all that much. The springrolls and eggrolls were both bland. The bbq pork and eggroll bun was good and definitely something I'd order again if in the mood, but I've definitely had better elsewhere. Also, the lemongrass chicken was flavorful but not crave-worthy fare to me. I think this is a really great place for Springfield to have; it's just not better than ok based on my experience. Will definitely return though sometime in the near future to give their pho a try.

At first I was very disappointed by their menu, since there were no obviously vegetarian choices, but then I was amazed by their staff. Not only did my server recommend vegetarian options for me, he gave me a to-go menu with foods that could be made vegetarian circled for future reference! The food I had was good, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was relaxing and comfortable. Would recommend, but make sure to ask your server to help you pick vegetarian dishes. Also came back here with a Groupon and was treated well. Often times businesses give you a second-class citizen experience when you use these kind of services, but not here!

Great Vietnamese joint. Delicious pho. Tasty spring rolls. Helpful and friendly staff. Although it's in a shopping center, the inside is nice.

Had a GREAT experience here. Ordered the Mixed Vegetables and Tofu Stir Fry, and the tofu was delicious! Serving sizes are giant; you can definitely make two meals out of one option, which makes the price very reasonable. The service here is very friendly and informative, and you can tell the owners are truly interested in keeping their customers happy. Will be going back soon!

Yep, it's good, considering the fact you have no other choice, really. Vietnamese is one of my fave cuisines, and I totally crave it, so I have to go. But c'mon guys, serve the eggrolls with the fixings; lettuce, tons of cilantro and carrots etc. Service is a C-, and watch your step; apparently they don't like to run the a/c even when the humidity makes the tile floors slippery when wet. That said, I'll take it, this is Springfield Mo after all.

Bad service and super long wait. We waited for an almost an hour and still did not get our food. Even the table that came after us got their food before us! We just left after that bc of the bad service. Not coming back ever...next time we're in springfield we'll just eat fast food.

I love the food at Bambu! The spring rolls are amazing and the peanut sauce that comes with them is to die for. I usually order the vermicelli but the Pho is also delicious. The only complaint I have is that the place always smells like cigarette smoke.

We are venturing out and trying new foods. Tonight we tried Vietnamese at Bambus. It was tasty!! We had the shrimp appetizer which was scrumptious. The appetizer was delivered quickly to the table but we waited awhile for our dinner. It was very much worth the wait tho. I had Lemongrass Beef and it was absolutely delicious. Full of flavor! My husband had Beef and Vegetables and it liked it just as well. I would recommend this restaurant to others. Great food!

Here is my review Food quality and taste. 4 out of 5 stars Service and attentiveness of the staff 1.5 out of 5 Best food worst service in Springfield. It took 10 minutes to be seated and there were only 6 patrons in at the time my wife and I arrived. Once we were seated it took a bit to be serviced. Now. At this point I won't pick on the the service anymore. Because oh my G. The food is just incredible. I could eat Bambu every day. So yeah. Do not go here if you are picky about be waited on hand and foot because it isn't going to happen. But if you can look past the service. The food is amazing.

Love the fresh spring rolls and the chicken cabbage salad! Fresh, delicious! I love this place! Try the chicken pho on a cool day. It will hit the spot! I really like the lemon grass chicken and the V1 too! I haven't had anything here that was not very good!

Fantastic Pho. Bodacious Bun Bo Hue. Luscious, Lip-smackin' Lemongrass Chicken. Compelling, Comforting Curry. Supremely Succulent Spring Rolls. Tantalizing Thai Tea. Those are my favorites. Henry, the owner, does a spectacular job running the kitchen with fresh ingredients and the attention to the quality of his broths is superb. The servers are terrific and are always quick to greet and help me put my order in. The atmosphere is quaintly Asian and great for business lunches or dinner dates. I would like to mention though that the lunch portions seem greater in quantity and quality during the afternoon. Overall, Bambu is one of my very favorite restaurants in Springfield.
